WHAT MAKES SCUBA SCENE THE BEST LIVEABOARD IN THE RED SEA?

Expertly run by Ahmed Fadel & Elke Bojanowski, the layout of M/Y Scuba Scene shows their combined work experience on Egyptian liveaboards. The kitchen and spacious dining area are in the lower deck (hull). All guest cabins are on the main or upper deck, so large windows and plenty of distance to the engine room make for comfortable, quiet and light accommodation.

Camera preparation and charging areas are very spacious, a washing machine & dryers are available to the guests, and a saltwater swimming pool & jacuzzi offer relaxation opportunities to all. Our large salon as well as the TV room offer inside chilling areas, both fitted with large screens. A number of sundecks with both shaded and sunny sections give the guests a choice of where and how to enjoy the surface intervals.

Scuba Scene runs special trips including shark weeks, tec weeks and photography-focussed itineraries.

Liveaboard itineraries.

Beautifully laid-out across her four decks, she has 6 twin/double cabins downstairs, 4 twin/double cabins on the main deck, 2 cabins on the top deck and 2 honeymoon suites – each with a private bathroom, small fridge, and adjustable A/C unit. On the main deck are a spacious dive deck and platform, with plenty of room for all diving equipment, and a camera table and charging points. From the dive deck, enter our well-designed dining area/salon, where all our meals are served throughout your trip.

Further, towards the bow, find our four suites – again fitted with private bathrooms, small fridges, and adjustable A/C units, as well as the kitchen.

The upper deck holds one of our three sundecks, our spacious and comfortable salon, another twin as well as the dive guide cabin, plus the captain’s cabin and second sundeck.

The sundecks provide a choice of shaded and open areas to relax in and on our third sundeck, there are soft drinks and alcohol in the fridges to keep you nice and cool!

The team managing the boat consists of two people with years of experience in the Red Sea diving industry, especially liveaboards, Ahmed Fadel and Dr. Elke Bojanowski.

Ahmed is a tech instructor, that has worked in different areas of diving over the last 20 years, mostly on liveaboards. He is the current operations manager of TDI/SDI Middleast and one of the most well known and respected Tec divers in the Red Sea. Elke ‘aka The Shark Lady’ is famous amongst the dive community and is a divemaster, guide and biologist specialising on the study of Red Sea shark populations, and the founder of the Red Sea Sharks Trust, a registered charity for shark awareness and conservation. She has worked on Egyptian liveaboards for over 16 years and is probably the Red Sea’s number shark expert! During our Shark Weeks she will do several interesting talks that are fascinating and educational.

Their combined experience and different specialities make them ideal organizers and hosts of your Red Sea diving liveaboards.

Technical Specifications

Daedulus & St. Johns

This itinerary combines two of the most beautiful areas in the Central & Southern Egyptian Red Sea: 1st: Daedalus Reef: Marine Park with sheer reef walls, gorgeous coral formations & marine life, and the chance for pelagic action, especially hammerhead sharks… 2nd: St. John’s plateau: a variety of beautiful reefs, drop-offs, coral gardens and swim-throughs & caverns… Because of distances to travel to the Deep South (= St. John’s), this itinerary starts and finishes in Port Ghalib. Weather permitting, we will try to split the time between the two areas, and might get a chance to visit Elphinstone as well… Daedalus Reef (‘Abu Kizan’) Located about 90 km from Marsa Alam, this is probably the most bizarre Egyptian Marine Park. Brothers, Daedulus & Elphinstone

Daedalus Reef (‘Abu Kizan’) Located about 90 km from Marsa Alam, this is probably the most bizarre Egyptian Marine Park. As on Big Brother, a minimum of 4-5 people are manning the lighthouse and military station on this massive reef in the middle of the Red Sea. Currents can be strong, but the size of the reef offers a variety of dive options for different conditions. Highlights: Steep walls drop to way below recreational dive limits, covered in a healthy mix of hard and soft corals. The size of some of Daedalus’ hard coral formations are legendary; to appreciate their dimensions, it is best to place a diver (or divers!) next to them for perspective. Resident Scalloped hammerheads can be seen here year-round, with the best chances seeing them schooling usually from May to August, depending e.g. on water temperatures and the depths f thermoclines. Other potential pelagic encounters include e.g. Oceanic manta rays, Oceanic whitetip and Silky sharks.

Elphinstone Reef (‘Abu Hamra’) Located ~ 10 km offshore about halfway between Port Ghalib and Marsa Alam, this is the most famous reef in this area. A long, narrow reef with extensive plateaus on its Northern and Southern tips, and sheer walls dropping off along its Eastern and Western side, it is teeming with life. It is also very exposed to the elements; the prevailing northerly winds and resulting waves, plus potentially strong currents can make mooring – and diving – at this site quite challenging at times.

Highlights: Soft corals of any imaginable colour, large sea fans, and black coral bushes all the way into the shallow overhangs attract a huge variety of reef fish and other critters… and the predators that feed on them, including barracudas, jacks, trevallies and tunas. With a bit of luck, sharks and the odd manta can be seen, and – normally from October to November – a very special pelagic predator may be encountered: the Oceanic whitetip shark!

Weather permitting – and depending on departure & arrival ports (Hurghada or Port Ghalib), we will spend anything between a couple of dives to a full two days at the different sites. Be aware that since March 2019, local regulations prohibit overnight mooring at the Brothers! This trip is ideal for divers with a bit of experience under their belts, all the way up to tech diving. We recommend a minimum of 50 dives, and a certification of Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent) or higher, as well as Nitrox & Deep Diver Specialities. These qualification will allow you to make the most of the dives at these three sites, while staying well within the recreational dive and no decompression limits. Some of our Brothers, Daedalus and Elphinstone trips are dedicated ‘SHARK WEEKS’, meaning you will have the option, to join informative presentations on shark biology, behaviour, conservation and research in the afternoons/evenings. These presentations will be given by biologist Dr Elke Bojanowski, who has been working as a guide and shark researcher on Egyptian liveaboards since 2004.

North & Tiran

Starting in Hurghada, you will visit some the best dive sites around the Sinai Peninsula in the Northern Red Sea: Ras Mohamed, the Strait of Tiran & the iconic wreck of the Thistlegorm. You will also be diving some of the highlights on the mainland side, such as Gubal Island or Abu Nuhas. Details of the itinerary will be decided depending on weather conditions. Southern Sinai – Strait of Tiran & Ras Mohamed At the entrance to the Gulf of Aqaba in the narrow Strait of Tiran lies a chain of four beautiful reefs, Jackson, Woodhouse, Thomas and Gordon reef (from North to South). Colourful reef walls and healthy coral gardens teeming with life are the main attractions here, while tech divers are drawn to the canyons of Thomas Reef. Shark lovers can hope for hammerhead action off the back of Jackson Reef. Situated on the Southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, Ras Mohamed is the first Egyptian National Park established in 1983. It offers a variety of dive sites, the main attractions being Shark & Yolanda Reef, and Jackfish Alley. Currents can be strong, but the size of the reef offers a variety of dive options for different conditions. Highlights: • The spectacular steep coral walls of Shark Reef, with stunning coral growth surrounded by schooling fish, such as bohar snappers, batfish, jacks, trevallies, and barracudas • The saddle between Shark & Yolanda Reef with the wreckage of the Yolanda (sank in 1980) and its cargo of bathroom ceramics.

Wreck of the SS Thistlegorm The SS Thistlegorm is one of the most iconic wrecks in the world. A British cargo vessel carrying war supplies for the Allied Forces in North Africa, she was sunk by German fighter planes on 6. October 1941. 9 crew members lost their lives when a bomb hit the cargo hold carrying most of the ammunition, causing a massive explosion.

Her bow section sits on an even keel on the seabed (about 30 m deep), while the deck level in about 18 m. The stern is separated from the bow by a debris field, and has tilted to the portside. Large schools of marine life gather around the wreck, and amidst the coral growth on the superstructure and hull, lots of marine life can be found, such as scorpionfish, crocodile fish, nudibranchs and other critters. The currents on the Thistlegorm can be very strong, so the use of shotlines is usually necessary to dive safely here.

Gubal Island – The Barge, Bluff Point & the Ulysses All that is left of THE BARGE is some wreckage of the hull, but it attracts a huge variety of marine life: massive moray eels, scorpionfish & crocodile fish, fusiliers, cardinal & soldierfish… plus shrimps, crabs, nudibranchs, flatworms – to name just a few. BLUFF POINT is a drop-off alone the Eastern tip of the island, with beautiful coral formations and overhangs. And finally on the exposed Northern side, we have the wreck of the ULYSSES. Since her sinking in 1887, she has become embedded into a stunning hard coral garden, and her hull and remaining deck structures are covered in marine life.

Abu Nuhas – Carnatic, Giannis D, Chrisoula K & Kimon M Just to the North of Shadwan Island the reef of Abu Nuhas (‘Father of Copper’) has become the final resting place for at least four ships, and a premier attraction point for wreck divers. Lined up along its Northern reef wall from west to east are: Giannis D (or “Wood Wreck), Carnatic (or ‘Wine Wreck’), Chrisoula K (or ‘Tile Wreck’), and Kimon M (or ‘Lentil Wreck’). A pod of Indian Ocean bottlenose dolphins can be spotted fairly regularly, and besides the wrecks and the marine life on and around them, there are some weird and wonderful critters to be found on night dives alone the South of the reef.

This trip is suitable for a wide range of divers, from fairly inexperienced Open Water Divers to tech divers. We recommend a minimum of 30 dives, and a certification of Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent) or higher, as well as Nitrox & Deep Diver Specialities. These qualification will allow you to make the most of the dives at these sites, but less experienced divers will definitely be able to enjoy their diving here and are welcome to do additional courses on board.

Here is some information on the emergency & firefighting systems in place on Scuba Scene.

1) There are emergency lights in all public areas which automatically come on when the generators/electricity are off. 2) There are smoke detectors and fire extinguishers in all cabins, public areas, the kitchen, and of course the engine room. 3) There are fire alarms (automatic and manual) on four of the five levels (except: the open air high deck) 4) There are fire hoses on four of the five levels (except: the open air high deck), plus a mobile water pump and hose working independently from the main pump in the engine room. 5) The engine room has additional fire fighting features: a sprinkler system, heat & smoke detectors, additional and larger fire extinguishers, a CO cartridge protecting the main electrical panel, chemical (powder) fire extinguishing system on top of each of the two engines. 6) Scuba Scene carries 3 liferafts (25 people each) and 2 large speedboats, offering plenty of flotation devices in case of having to evacuate the boat. 7) Life jackets are provided for each person on board (guests & crew), plus spares at the bow assembly point. 8) There is a night watchman who has a scanning system to ensure he carries out regular checks around the boat throughout the night

To avoid fire from breaking out, there are rules about where and when to charge which items on board, and a night watch is patroling the public areas every night.All public areas are also monitored by cameras.

Once you book your holiday with us, we will pass on your flight and/or hotel details to Scuba Scene. If they are meeting you at the airport look out for the representative in the arrivals hall with ‘Scuba Scene’ written on the sign.

If you are staying at a hotel before the liveaboard then we will arrange a collection time from your reception area.

The boat usually needs to be cleared by 11am so they can prepare for the next guests. Scuba Scene have an arrangement with the Marriott Hotel next to their mooring where you can pay $25 to use their facilities for the day e.g. pool, showers, access to restaurants etc.

Food and drinks are extra, we can also get you a day room if you wanted to have a lie-down or chill out (subject to availability).

Sea Legend emerges from Scuba Scene ashes

A Red Sea liveaboard that caught fire and sank last month has been replaced – and the new arrival, Scuba Scene’s Sea Legend , is now fulfilling previous bookings and accepting new ones.

The fire had broken out soon after Scuba Scene ’s departure from Hurghada on 18 April, as reported on Divernet . The 19 occupants were evacuated safely, with guests found alternative accommodation and journeys home arranged. Scuba Scene ’s managers, Ahmed Fadel and Elke Bojanowski, had been aboard at the time and insisted that future bookings would go ahead.

Now, a month after the sinking, they have justified that claim by taking on the motor yacht Sea Legend , which Mark Murphy of Scuba Scene’s UK travel agent Oyster Diving Holidays says “offers the same high-quality experience”.

“They are also adding a few of their own touches that made a holiday on Scuba Scene so special,” he says: “Two high-powered RIBs with ladders and equipment racks, the chefs that serve up sensational restaurant-quality food, washer/dryer and warm towels in the winter to name but a few.”

Built in 2019, Sea Legend is only 1m shorter than Scuba Scene at 42m, with a maximum capacity for 32 diving guests but limited to 28 for comfort. Like Scuba Scene it is steel-hulled and equipped with two large speedboats fitted with tank-racks and dive-ladders.

“Of course, the trips wouldn’t be the same without managers and guides Elke and Ahmed,” says Murphy, adding that Bojanowski, who runs the Red Sea Shark Trust, would be continuing with her Red Sea Shark Weeks while Fadel would “continue to surprise people with his knowledge of the wrecks and reefs of the Red Sea… as well as his Tec Weeks and training.”

Passengers previously booked on Scuba Scene have been transferred to Sea Legend keeping to the original dates, and prices are unchanged.

“The Scuba Scene team is confident that they can maintain the same high standards and deliver holidays that will be as good, if not better than on Scuba Scene ,” says Murphy. More information and bookings at Oyster Diving Holidays .

How Do You Attach a Jon Line? #askmark #scuba @BrentHollett #askmark I'm looking to buy a Jon Line, and ive noticed two camps regarding what goes on the end. Camp 1 has a simple carabiner and loops the line around the rope and clips the carabiner back onto the Jon Line. Camp 2 uses a Garvin Hook on the line instead. Camp 1.5 loops a Garvin Hook over the rope and clips it onto the Jon Line, but that seems insane. Our Red Sea dive liveaboard itineraries vary. Northern Red Sea trips include Ras Mohamed Nature Reserve, established as Egypt’s first national park in 1983, and the Straits of Tiran, the SS Thistlegorm and Abu Nuhas’ shipwrecks, plus hammerhead, silky, thresher and whale sharks. Southern trips highlight marine parks of Brothers Islands and Daedalus Reef. Oceanic whitetip sharks are seen at Elphinstone Reef, also one of our dive stops.

Sharks & Shark Weeks

Dive with the sharks or simply observe. The Red Sea is home to the following species: hammerheads, silkys, silvertips, grey reef, oceanic whitetips, threshers and whale sharks.

Shark weeks occurs May to June and during the fall. Both times focus on swimming with and viewing sharks. The late spring/early summer trips provide experiences with hammerhead and grey reef sharks. During the fall, dive trips feature destinations known for whitetip shark sightings.

Dr. Elke Bojanowski participates in Shark Week and hosts four informative presentations: 1) shark behavior, 2) how to dive with them, 3) shark conservation efforts in the Red Sea and 4) a report on the outcomes of her shark research.

Shark sightings cannot be guaranteed. However, the dive locations selected have had sharks frequent the waters.

Cairo Pyramid Tours and Nile Cruises

Pre and post-tours can be added to your dive trip. The three most popular Egyptian tours are The Pyramids of Giza, southwest of Cairo, a Nile River cruise including Luxor or Aswan, and a city tour of Cairo with its rich historical and cultural attractions.

Kitesurfing Weeks

With its flat water, the Red Sea offers exceptional kitesurfing for all levels. Kite season, when the winds are most favorable, runs select weeks from April to October. Optimum locations are found in the Northern Red Sea in waters around Safaga, Soma Bay, El Gouna and Tawila Island. Kitesurfing is a group activity and typically arranged through a club or tour operator.

Dining aboard All Star Scuba Scene

Our chef and kitchen staff are extremely flexible in the types of flavorful foods they prepare on board. While the menu may showcase a dive guest’s native foods, we believe as adventurers divers are open to experiencing the culture and cuisine of a host destination.

As divers are ecologically conscious. As such, we strive to maintain a sustainable environment in all that we do. This includes how our restaurant operates.

The newest luxury dive liveaboard serving the Red Sea, All Star Scuba Scene features modern decor with beautiful earth tones and light wood furnishings.

At 159 feet (48.5m) long and 34.5 feet (10.5m) wide, All Star Scuba Scene is one of the largest vessels on the Red Sea. All Star Scuba Scene safely accommodates up to 28 guests over its four decks. Two tenders are able to transfer divers to dive sites.

To protect the environment, All Star Scuba Scene strives to reduce single-use plastics while following local guidelines.

Leading the All Star Scuba Scene operation is Ahmed Fadel and Elke Bojanowski, PhD. Protecting the marine environment is the dive operation’s underlying philosophy.

Ahmed has been diving for nearly a quarter of a century and is an experienced tec instructor. Today he oversees the vessel, the crew and staff and is also an author on diving in the Southern Red Sea.

Elke is an avid diver and oversees the vessel’s citizen scientist program which focuses on shark research and conservation.

Will I see sharks while diving on All Star Scuba Scene?

Depending on the itinerary, divers can see hammerheads, silkys, silvertips, grey reef, oceanic whitetips, threshers and whale sharks. As with nature, sightings cannot be guaranteed. For more information on itineraries, click here.

What time do we disembark All Star Scuba Scene?

All guests disembark after breakfast or no later than 10:00am on Mondays.

Can I rent dive gear on All Star Scuba Scene?

Yes, with prior arrangements, you can rent dive gear. For rental rates, click here. Please request these items on your Trip Application . Payment is made while on board. All rentals must be arranged prior to departure.

What are the meals like on board All Star Scuba Scene?

On All Star Scuba Scene, three (3) meals are served daily in our restaurant. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet-style. Dinner offers a buffet-style salad, with a plated appetizer, dinner and dessert. Snacks are also offered.

The menu features world cuisine including local Egyptian dishes.

What time can we board the All Star Scuba Scene?

For travel planning, boarding begins at 6:00pm. Please plan your flights accordingly so that you may board as close to this time as possible. Red Sea Liveaboard Destroyed By Fire

A Hurghada based liveaboard named Scuba Scene was sadly destroyed by fire this week. Local reports suggest that the boat was leaving the marina for a safari when an engine room fire broke out. All guests were evacuated and no injuries have been reported.

M/Y Scuba Scene was steel-hulled liveaboard at 43 m long and 9 m wide catering to trips throughout the Red Sea.

She was scheduled to be hosting a deep technical expedition this August complete with talks, seminars and live streams with world recognised technical divers including Karen van den Oever, Sami Paakkarinen and Ahmed Gabr.

About how many days did you spend getting to and from there? Longest continuous flight? I take it English-only speakers would be fine going on your trip? If you consider your trip cost, round trip airfare, any hotel stays or similar (often good to get there early for live-aboards in case of flight delays or late baggage), the total trip cost, how does it compare with other destinations? It's pretty easy to figure out what a Belize Aggressor III or IV , or a Cayman Aggressor V trip would cost a U.S.-based diver in time and money; some of these more 'far flung' trips can be tougher to figure. Camera preparation and charging areas are very spacious, and the salt water swimming pool & jacuzzi offer relaxation opportunities to all. Our large salon as well as the TV room offer inside chilling areas, both fitted with large screens. A number of sundecks with both shaded and sunny sections give the guests a choice of where and how to enjoy the surface intervals.

On top of this you will be looked after by at least one of the 2 top cruise directors and guides in the Red Sea who specialise in either sharks, wrecks and tec diving.

RAID Release Independent Diver Program

Since RAID first opened its doors, the agency and its instructor core have promoted diving at every level as a team endeavour. Scuba diving is something done with a buddy.

However, the buddy system is based on a each of the team being equals and equal to the task. And all that centers on two or three divers with more of less equal experience, training, and ability. A group of peers each being capable and willing to lend a hand when needed without putting their buddy or themselves at risk

And yet we all know that there are plenty of occasions when we may be obliged to dive with a fellow diver who is not a peer. He or she may have less experience, may be counting on us to guide them. When we dive with a youngster, can we really expect them to offer a high-level of support, and get us and themselves safely back to the surface?

As an instructor, can we count on our students to help us in a real emergency? Should we?

How about diving with a camera? Are we a good buddy when we are concentrating on framing the perfect shot of a nudibranch crawling around on the lip of a barrel sponge? And can we honestly rely on our buddy when they are hovering over the forepeak of the wreck we are photographing, which puts them 10 metres or more away from our side?

There are many instances like this when an experienced diver is essentially diving without the guaranteed support of a buddy, and those divers are who we had in mind when we developed our Independent Diver Program.

The major skills taught in this course focus on the mindset and familiarity with special equipment that allows an experienced diver (one with 100 logged dives or more) to dive safely and comfortably without having to rely on a buddy for support in the case of an underwater ‘surprise.’ This course is about planning dives where the core competency is the ability to self rescue.

And of course, one outcome of that is that a RAID Self-Reliant Diver makes the absolute perfect dive buddy!

Lady Lara’s interior configuration has been designed to comfortably accommodate up to 14 guests overnight in 7 cabins. She is also capable of carrying up to 19 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.

Lady Lara Mega Super Yacht, is a motor yacht built in 2015 by Lürssen in Schacht-Audorf. She is owned by Israeli/Kazakh billionaire Alexander Mashkevitch. With an overall length of 91.00 m (298.56 ft) and a beam of 14.82 m (48.6 ft).

An ultra modern super yacht

Built under codename Orchid, Lady Lara has a full displacement hull, aluminium superstructure and a 14.35 metre beam. Exterior and interior design comes from the boards of Reymond Langton Design, a decision influenced by the desire to create a harmonious balance between spaces inside and out.

Zero speed stabilizers, elevator, beach club, helicopter landing pad on the bow, spa, swimming platform, tender garage with tender, air conditioning, on deck jacuzzi, gym, BBQ, underwater lights.

Her on-board atmosphere is bright, with inviting interior spaces and a subtle selection of light complementary finishes enhancing the open areas. Generous exterior decks offer range of options for guests to enjoy, from sun-drenched, open entertainment areas to more sheltered, intimate formal spaces.

Information about Lady Lara

Sweeping, sculpted curves give Lady Lara a feminine elegance and the interior reportedly flows just as sinuously. Lady Lara is a private yacht and following her maiden voyage to Norway, she headed to Florida, the Bahamas and the Eastern Caribbean islands for the winter season.

Lady Lara features a displacement steel hull and aluminium superstructure, with teak decks. She was built to Lloyds Register classification society rules.

This luxury yacht is also fitted with ‘zero speed stabilizers’ which work at anchor, increasing on-board comfort when the yacht is stationary, particularly in rough waters.

Who is alexander mashkevitch.

Mashkevich was born in Frunze, Kyrgyz SSR, Soviet Union, in 1954. His father Anton, a doctor born in Lithuania, and his mother, Rakhel Yoffe, a lawyer born in Vitebsk, were evacuated to Kyrgyzstan in 1941. His family background is Lithuanian Jewish.

He is a graduate of Kyrgyz State University where he studied philology. Mashkevich started out an academic career but became a businessman during perestroika. Mashkevich, Patokh Chodiev, and Alijan Ibragimov form “the Trio,” a group of Kazakh businessmen who became billionaires. The Trio gained control of the recently privatized chromium, alumina, and gas operations in Kazakhstan (some of the largest ones in the world).

Mashkevich is one of the owners of Alferon Management. Based in London, Alferon Management has acquired mining operations in different places: Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Indonesia, Kosovo, Russia, and other countries.

In 2010 he was on the Forbes list of billionaires at #287. In 2017, he was on the list at #1098, with a worth of $1.9 billions. Now his worth is 3 billion dollars.

The incredibly designed LADY LARA yacht features an interior style from Reymond Langton Design .

She has accommodations for 18 guests and 19 crew members on board. The VIP suites have fold-down balconies that add to the grandeur.

The onboard atmosphere is bright and inviting with subtle finishes. The entertainment areas are open to provide more sheltered and intimate formal spaces.

The yacht has an extensive health and beauty center with a spa and an expansive beach club.

The beach club creates the perfect area for guests to enjoy indoor/outdoor living. There is also a swimming platform where guests can leap into the water below.

She has an on-deck jacuzzi to soak up the bubbles and the views. The yacht also has an elevator for convenient access to her different decks and a comprehensive gym onboard. The tender garage is brimming with towable toys and tenders.

Reymond Langton Design also contributed to the exterior design of the LADY LARA yacht. She was built by Lürssen and delivered from their Rendsburg shipyard in 2015. The exterior has sweeping curves and elegant but masculine features.

LADY LARA was code-named project Orchid when she was launched from the Lürssen Shipyard in 2015 and later renamed. She has a full displacement hull which gives her exceptional speeds in the water.

She has a white aluminum superstructure and teak decks throughout. The exterior is accented by underwater lights, which illuminate her at the night.

The LADY LARA yacht is a 91m superyacht with a beam of 14.82m and a draft of 4m. The vessel reaches a maximum speed of 18 knots and a cruising speed of 14 knots.

She is powered by 2 MTU engines and has a displacement of 2,945 gross tons.

She features an advanced stabilization system that provides guests with the best comfort levels on board by minimizing the rolling motion of the vessel. The $180 million yacht has a $14 – $15 million annual running cost.

A $1.4 Million-Per-Week Yacht Charter Experience

Y.CO has just welcomed the 298-foot Lürssen Lady Lara to the charter fleet. The lowest weekly base rate is $1.4 million for bookings this winter in the Caribbean and Bahamas.

The yacht is also listed for sale—at more than $254 million—for the first time since the German shipyard delivered it in 2015. Y.CO’s Max Bulley and Gary Wright, along with Merle Wood of Merle Wood & Associates, represented the yacht at the recent Monaco Yacht Show.

“With Lürssen quality and stunning Reymond Langton design, Lady Lara is an exceptional yacht that was conceived with family living in mind,” Wright stated in a press release. “Her adaptable spaces, variety and flexibility, in addition to all the amazing features like the breathtaking spa area, the beach club and two pools, are ideal for multigenerational groups and put Lady Lara into a league of her own.”

Accommodations are for 12 guests in their choice of eight staterooms (for private use, the yacht is built to accommodate 16 guests). Six of the guest staterooms are on the main deck, with one on the lower deck. The master suite has its own private deck with an exterior terrace, outdoor hot tub, and indoor library. The aft-deck space in the owner’s area is called a “winter garden,” with sliding glass panels that can be closed to shelter diners from the elements.

There also are two cabins for owner’s staff or supernumeraries, in addition to the yacht’s quarters for 27 crew.

Onboard amenities include an aft-deck pool whose floor can be raised to create a dance floor. A sound system on this deck helps to create a discotheque-style environment for parties. There’s another pool up on the sundeck, this one with a swim-up bar.

On the bridge deck, guests have access to the spa, which includes a hammam, massage room, treatment room, beauty salon and gymnasium. Guests who prefer to get their exercise outdoors can do so from the beach club at water level, which has a steam room and a sauna along with a sunbathing area.

For rainy days and relaxing nights, the lower deck aboard Lady Lara includes a cinema. There’s also a touch-and-go helipad on board, if guests want to escape to a different spot up the coast.

How fast can Lady Lara cruise? According to Y.CO, the yacht has a top speed of 17 knots and a cruising speed of 14 knots, which is plenty fast for exploring the islands.

The new megayacht, the first to be built by CRN on the new naval platform of 12.50 metres in width, is characterized by sleek, slender and sporty lines, which make the profile particularly streamlined. With 5 decks, M/Y CRN 132 73 m can host up to 12 guests in its six cabins, including the Owner Suite and Vip cabins, together with a crew of 22 members.

The construction of this new jewel of the sea, which includes the best design solutions realized by CRN, has required around 430,000 hours of work from the shipyard workers and subcontractors and the daily contribution of over 150 direct and indirect workers.

The Acquisition

Off the Hook Yachts is proud to announce the acquisition of Georgetown Yacht Basin (GYB) now rebranding under Georgetown Yacht Haven – a 300-boat slip full-service marina located on the Sassafras River in Georgetown, MD. Off the Hook plans to restore the yacht basin to its former glory and reconnect with the local community in order to establish it as a household name in the area.

As our founder is originally from Maryland, this will complement our current presence in the area, along with our MD sales team, which currently operates out of Bay Bridge Marina. The acquisition of the marina will allow us to expand on sales, service, and custom-built Nor-Tech Performance Boat sales in the region. Georgetown Yacht Haven has 300 slips, two paint sheds that can hold up to a 110-foot yacht, a 110-ton travel lift, a fuel dock, a swimming pool, bathhouses, and a complete ship store, along with many other amenities. GYH controls the largest travel lift in Northern Chesapeake Bay.

73m superyacht Yalla launched by CRN

Italian yacht builder CRN has launched its 73m superyacht Yalla .

CRN welcomed more than 1,000 guests to the launching ceremony of CRN 132 Yalla , held late this morning at its shipyard in Ancona, Italy. The launch ceremony included speeches from Alberto Galassi, new CEO of the Ferretti Group , Lamberto Tacoli, Chairman and CEO of CRN, Xinyu Xu, Vice-chairman of Weichai Group, and the Mayor of Ancona Valeria Mancinelli.

Part of the Ferretti Group, CRN specialises in custom yachts up to 90 metres in steel and aluminium. Yalla is the first yacht built by CRN on its new 12.5m beam platform. More than 430,000 hours from CRN and its subcontractors were spent on Yalla 's build, with contributions from 150 employees.

Exterior styling comes from Omega Architects in The Netherlands, in close collaboration with the CRN Engineering Department. The five-deck motor yacht features sleek, sporty lines and a streamlined profile. Superyacht Yalla 's interiors are by Droulers Architecture, working with CRN's Interiors and Design Office. She hosts up to 12 guests in its six cabins, including an owner's suite and VIP cabins, along with 22 crew members.

'Following the launch of CRN 133 61m superyacht a few months ago, we are proud to celebrate the launch of the new Yalla of 73m, which represents a challenge and an objective for the whole CRN shipyard,' says Lamberto Tacoli, Chairman and CEO of CRN. The Ferretti Group currently has five superyachts underway at the Ancona shipyard, including the 74m CRN 131, 55m CRN 134, a Ferretti Custom Line CL 124, the 61m CRN 133 and the Riva 122 Mythos , which are at the delivery stage.

Strange Glow Over Moscow Skies Triggers Panic as Explosions Reported

B right flashes lit up the night sky in southern Moscow in the early hours of Thursday morning, new footage appears to show, following reports of an explosion at an electrical substation on the outskirts of the city.

Video snippets circulating on Russian-language Telegram channels show a series of flashes on the horizon of a cloudy night sky, momentarily turning the sky a number of different colors. In a clip shared by Russian outlet MSK1.ru, smoke can be seen rising from a building during the flashes lighting up the scene.

Newsweek was unable to independently verify the details of the video clips, including when and where it was filmed. The Russian Ministry of Emergency situations has been contacted via email.

Several Russian Telegram accounts said early on Thursday that residents of southern Moscow reported an explosion and a fire breaking out at an electrical substation in the Leninsky district, southeast of central Moscow.

Local authorities in the Leninsky district told Russian outlet RBC that the explosion had happened in the village of Molokovo. "All vital facilities are operating as normal," Leninsky district officials told the outlet.

The incident at the substation in Molokovo took place just before 2 a.m. local time, MSK1.ru reported.

Messages published by the ASTRA Telegram account, run by independent Russian journalists, appear to show residents close to the substation panicking as they question the bright flashes in the sky. One local resident describes seeing the bright light before losing access to electricity, with another calling the incident a "nightmare."

More than 10 villages and towns in the southeast of Moscow lost access to electricity, the ASTRA Telegram account also reported. The town of Lytkarino to the southeast of Moscow, lost electricity, wrote the eastern European-based independent outlet, Meduza.

Outages were reported in the southern Domodedovo area of the city, according to another Russian outlet, as well as power failures in western Moscow. Electricity was then restored to the areas, the Strana.ua outlet reported.

The cause of the reported explosion is not known. A Telegram account aggregating news for the Lytkarino area described the incident as "an ordinary accident at a substation."

The MSK1.ru outlet quoted a local resident who speculated that a drone may have been responsible for the explosion, but no other Russian source reported this as a possible cause.

Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Moscow with long-range aerial drones in recent months, including a dramatic wave of strikes in late May.

On Sunday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the region's air defense systems had intercepted an aerial drone over the city of Elektrostal, to the east of Moscow. No damage or casualties were reported, he said.

The previous day, Russian air defenses detected and shot down another drone flying over the Bogorodsky district, northeast of central Moscow, Sobyanin said.

There is currently no evidence that an aerial drone was responsible for the reported overnight explosion at the electrical substation in southern Moscow.

Amadeus Description

Built by the famous Dynamique Yachts shipyard, and having undergone a total refit in 2018, S/Y Amadeus was designed to please the most demanding of yachtsmen. Built for smooth sailing, this elegant cutter rigged sloop has a sleek hull design, comfortably reaching top speeds of 12 knots and ensuring excellent sailing performance. S/Y Amadeus has just undergone this past winter (2018) a major refit such as total repaint top to bottom, new rigging (BSI Denmark), Novourania with new Evinrude 75hp outboard, Splash pool, new Bimini/Sprayhood/Awnings, new exterior fabrics and many other enhancements. In 2016 new “North Sails” were placed onboard. The yacht is maintained in excellent condition with a five-star crew year round. Her generous uncluttered teak deck offers plenty of space for sunbathing. The spacious and unique outdoor saloon has two tables seating upto 12 guests and is a perfect setting for outdoor dining and entertainment. Thanks to a special canopy and roll-up windows, the deck saloon has the added attraction that it can be fully enclosed, making it ideal for all weather conditions. Her forward area includes a splash pool and sun bathing area which can also be shaded with a removable awning. From the cockpit, a stairway leads to the light-filled spacious saloon offering ample seating, ideal for relaxing or enjoying a drink from the bar, and offers a formal dining area. This area also includes a LCD TV, entertainment center, ipod dock station, playstation, and is ideal for indoor activities. She can accommodate 10-12 guests in one full width master stateroom, two double bedded cabins each having one extra single bed and two twin bedded cabins which can be easily converted to double beds (upon request), thus, making her the only 5 double bedded sailboat in the Greek market. She also has a nice selection of toys which include water ski (adult and children), tubes, inflatable canoes, wakeboard, fishing rod and snorkeling gear.

CAPTAIN - Harry Fotopoulos Captain Harry is a graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy and holds a Captain Class A’ Diploma. He also holds a Canadian Commercial Pilot license class B, sailing and speedboat license. He has over 15 years of experience onboard many types of Charter Yachts. He holds Certificates in GMDSS, Fire Fighting & First Aid, Personal Safety, Life Saving, and Ship Security. He has a great knowledge of the Greek islands and will navigate guests to remarkable destinations. During his one season on board he showed great leadership skills and received positive feedback from all guests. He is calm yet very outgoing and speaks very good English. DECKHAND - Konstantinos Santas CHIEF STEWARDESS - Mirella Davint Mirella has 8+ years of experience as a stewardess onboard charter and private yachts. She has a very pleasant personality and she aims to accommodate her guests to the fullest. Comments received from previous guests are memorable. This will be Mirella’s eighth season onboard. Mirella speaks English and she is 38 years old. ENGINEER - Stelios Mandos Stelios holds an Engineer Class B’ Diploma from the Greek Merchant Marine Academy as well as a Sailor’s License. He has over 15 years of experience onboard Ocean-Going Vessels and Charter Yachts. His hobbies include spearfishing and sailing. He speaks good English. Stelios is 45 years old, married with two children. CHEF - Thanasis Kiritsis Thanasis is 39 years old and has worked as a chef for more than 20 years in numerous hotels restaurants, yachts and resorts including owning his own pastry shop / bakery for 5 years. Built for smooth sailing, this elegant cutter rigged sloop has a sleek hull design that enables her to comfortably reach top speeds of 12 knots and ensures excellent sailing performance.

This sailing yacht's generous uncluttered teak deck with a foredeck pool, offers plenty of space for sunbathing. The spacious and unique outdoor saloon has two tables, a bar and barbeque, a perfect setting for outdoor dining and entertainment. Thanks to a special canopy and roll-up windows, the deck saloon has the added attraction that it can be fully enclosed, making it ideal for all weather conditions. From the cockpit, a stairway leads to the light-filled spacious saloon offering ample seating, ideal for relaxing or enjoying a drink from the bar, and a formal dining area with seating for up to 12 guests.

Accomodation is offered for up to 12 guests in 5 spacious cabins: the bow master cabin on AMADEUS features a double bed, vanity unit and generous storage facilities, as well as audio/visual entertainment. The en-suite bath includes a shower and separate large bath. Two double cabins with additional single bunks situated forward. Two twin cabins situated aft. All cabins with en suite facilities and audio/visual entertainment. Crew of 5 in separate quarters.

A General Description of Sailing Yacht AMADEUS

AMADEUS was previously registered as project/yacht name Amadeus 1er. This 33 metre (109 ft) luxury yacht was built by Dynamique Yachts in 1991. Sailing Yacht AMADEUS is a well proportioned superyacht. The yacht is a modern sloop with a cutter rig. The naval architecture office whom authored the design work on this ship was Philippe Briand. Luxury yacht AMADEUS is a quality yacht that is able to accommodate as many as 12 guests on board and has a total of 5 crew members.

Sailing yacht AMADEUS was built by the famous Dynamique Yachts shipyard .The yacht features superb sailing characteristics which are complimented by her spacious interior and abundant deck space. Sailing sloop AMADEUS can accommodate 10 passengers in five cabins. With one large master stateroom and four additional cabins which are all air conditioned and have en suite bathrooms. She also has two separate salons and a full dining room. The aft deck is fully covered with seating. The fore deck has an unique pool on deck and swimming in the sea is made accessible by a large swim aft platform.

The Construction & Naval Architecture relating to Luxury Yacht AMADEUS

Philippe Briand was the naval architect firm involved in the formal nautical design work for AMADEUS. Also the company Philippe Briand skillfully collaborated on this undertaking. In 1991 she was actually launched to triumph in Marans and following sea trials and final completion was afterwards passed on to the yacht owner. Dynamique Yachts completed their new build sailing yacht in France. A reasonable proportion is brought about with a maximum beam (width) of 7.5 metres / 24.6 feet. With a 3.6m (11.8ft) draught (maximum depth) she is reasonably deep. The material composite was used in the building of the hull of the sailing yacht. Her superstructure above deck is built with the use of composite. Over the deck of AMADEUS she is 32.7 (107.3 ft) in length. In 2004 extra refitting and modernisation was also finished.

Engines & Speed For S/Y AMADEUS:

She is driven by twin screw propellers. The main engine of the ship gives 375 horse power (or 276 kilowatts). She is equiped with 2 engines. The combined thrust for the boat is therefore 750 HP / 552 KW.

Bestowing bedding for a maximum of 12 yacht guests sleeping aboard, the AMADEUS accommodates them in style. Normally the vessel requires approximately 5 professional crewmembers to run.

Her master cabin features a walk around king bed, desk/vanity, and en-suite bathroom. Additionally, there are two guest cabins each with a queen bed convertible to two twins, and two guest cabins each with a queen bed and twin bed. Each guest cabin has an en-suite.

Her main salon has a spacious, contoured conversational area, along with a large, flatscreen T.V. The aft deck features al fresco dining with Bimini top. Up on deck there are sun pads and a splash pool for you and your guests to enjoy.

Watersports offered include a 15 foot tender with 75hp engine, water skis for adults and children, tube, wakeboard, kayak, fishing gear, snorkeling gear, and rendezvous diving.

Sailing yacht AMADEUS is a stunning 110 ft yacht available for charter in Greece. With a clean, spacious teak deck and a unique outdoor saloon that can seat up to 12 guests across two tables, it’s the perfect place for outdoor dining and entertainment. The deck saloon can also be enclosed with a special canopy and roll-up windows, making it suitable for use in all weather conditions. At the front of the boat, there’s a splash pool and sunbathing area with a removable awning for shade.

Inside the boat, a staircase from the cockpit leads to a well-lit and roomy saloon area with plenty of seating, including a formal dining area, bar, LCD TV, entertainment center, iPod dock station, and Playstation. Sailing Yacht AMADEUS can accommodate 10-12 guests in five large cabins, including a full-width master stateroom and two double cabins, each with an extra single bed. The two twin cabins can also be converted to doubles upon request, making her the only sailboat on the Greek market with five double beds.

To add to the fun, sailing yacht AMADEUS also comes with a range of water toys, including adult and children’s water skis, tubes, inflatable canoes, wakeboard, fishing rod, and snorkeling gear. She was built by Dynamique Yachts in 1996 and underwent a refit in 2014/2018.

Two identical double cabins situated aft which can be convertible to twins. (Total 5 double beds) All cabins with en suite facilities and audio/visual entertainment.

A professional crew of 5-6 members are accommodated in separate quarters.

Charter the AMADEUS

AMADEUS is a 110-foot sailing yacht that can accommodate ten to twelve passengers in five staterooms as follows: a spacious Owner’s stateroom with a double bed, a vanity and an entertainment unit including TV, DVD and music system; two cabins with a double bed and an additional single bed; two cabins with two twin beds each. All staterooms have en suite bathrooms, a TV, DVD and CD player. There are two separate salons onboard as well as a full dining room. The aft deck is fully covered and has seating for all guests to dine in the open air. Forward of the cockpit is a lovely cushioned area for sunning and an unusual pool is found in the fore of the yacht. Swimming in the sea is made accessible by the large swim aft platform.
