1985 Aloha 32 Aloha Yachts were a range of sailing keelboats manufactured in Whitby, Ontario, Canada by Ouyang Boat Works, founded by Ti Ouyang who had previously worked for Whitby Boat Works.After producing a range of 16, 20 and 23 foot trailerable sailboats under the Matilda name, Ouyang introduced the Ted Brewer & Robert Wallstrom designed Aloha 28 in 1973. This was followed by the 34 (also a Brewer & Wallstrom design, in 1975), 27 (also referred to as the 26, 8.2, and 271), by Robert Perry, in 1979, 32 (by Mark Ellis, in 1982) and 30 (by Ron Holland, in 1986). The company also considered acting as North American agents for Robert Perry designed 41 and 47 foot yachts to be manufactured in the far east and sold under the Aloha-Perry name, but after trials with the prototype 41 foot model, decided not to pursue this arrangement.All production boats featured good quality fibreglass construction and well finished teak interiors. A total of between 600 and 700 boats were constructed before the company encountered financial difficulties in a mid-1980's depression in the boat building business, and ceased trading. They remain a popular choice with Canadian and US buyers and are supported by enthusiastic owners associations, the Aloha Owners Association catering to owners of 27, 28, 30 and 32 foot models and the Aloha 34 Network to owners of the Aloha 34.

An alternative to paying $150,000 for a similar in excellent condition or $80,000 with a running old engine worn and soon to fail or mandates a rebuild. Is to buy cheap get a great hull, good rigging & sail gear, anchoring system, versatile spacious interior to be used as is & continue remodeling or redo to your own liking while enjoying life aboard and/or sailing. Or an alternative housing scenario. That alternative is this. The 2010 survey put the boat at a $400,000 replacement cost, a $115,000 - $140,000 refit complete value and $85,000 market value. The prior owner needed a survey for bank loan and insurance. 2010 survey available upon request plus 2012 addendum.

Aloha 32 is a Canadian sailboat that was designed by Mark Ellis as a cruiser. This is a true recreational keelboat built with fiberglass and beautiful teak wooden trim with teak and holly in the cabin. This boat is fitted with a Westerbeke diesel engine 21hp and holds 30 gallons of fuel.

The interior layout has a large bow V-berth, galley, head, navigation table, a crew bunk aft, nice kitchen area with a refrigerator, sink, microwave, and induction stove. The cabin sole is teak and holly, lots of storage and 76’’ of headroom.

This boat has a long list of new rigging and upgrades, a detailed list can be provided. The Canvas is newer and in very good condition.

The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

• SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
• D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. 1982 Aloha 32 boat for sale

The Aloha 32 comes after the successful Niagara 35 design by Mark Ellis. Many sailors who fell in love with the Niagara, wanted something a little smaller, yet still have the ease of handling, and quality construction of its larger sister. Ouyang Boat Works, of Whitby Ontario, developed the popular Aloha line of yachts, and successfully made about 700 Aloha 32’s. Thanks due to its popularity and rave reviews by owners and cruisers alike.

Aquarelle is her name and is French for ‘watercolour’. If the sailor is the artist, and the boat is the brush, then her travels over the Salish Sea is a wonderful canvas to explore. Thanks to her high aspect rig, she will move in light air, and with a reasonable displacement, she will express confidence in higher winds. Whether for a couple or for a young family, the Aloha 32 will not disappoint both underway, and at anchor.

So Why Should You Buy This Boat?

New! New! New!- This may be a 1984 model, but with a solid fiberglass hull, the owners over the last three years have provided key upgrades that should put new owners at ease: new larger rigging, new 3YM20 Yanmar Diesel, upgraded AGM batteries and enlarged electrical panel.

A Very Roomy Cabin – With a headroom of 6’4” throughout the cabin, you have a very airy cabin that does not feel enclosed, but welcoming and inviting. The unique layout of the interior is what Mark Ellis calls “settee forward”, which is more geared for voyaging by replacing the traditional V-berth with a workshop, sail bins and additional stowage. Compound this with a generous head compartment with a shower and large galley, and you have a well fitted vessel to sniff the coast. Even the main cabin has a Dickinson heater to ward off those cooler nights.

Smart at Sea- It is not too often that you discuss design numbers like ballast/weight ratio in a cruiser, but having a such a ratio of about 40%, Aquarelle is a stiff boat, and should sail at or near her hull speed of just under 7 knots. Also, the inverted-V arrangement of the dual mainsheet controls on either side of the cabin in lieu of a traditional traveler, effectively makes the mainsail self-tacking.

Smart at Anchor- With no traveler and mainsheet to intrude the cockpit, you can sit back and stretch out your legs while reading a book. With the cockpit table, you are able to enjoy those late afternoon tuck-ins and stay in the fully enclosed dodger/bimini when the weather turns. Further, if you need to get to shore, the tender can be lowered from the aft davits. Once smart package that is fully accommodating.
