Sanlorenzo 62Steel Cloud 9

Cloud 9: Take a tour of the first Sanlorenzo 62Steel superyacht

As owners plan to spend more time secluded aboard, Sanlorenzo answers their call with a 61.5-metre steel superyacht built for long-term cruising. BOAT explores an airy new home from home.

When the new Sanlorenzo 62Steel was launched in La Spezia in 2021 there was a party, a godmother and a christening. Everything was carried out with the tradition and ceremony befitting plans that were years the making. Only the most vital element was missing: the owner.

This was the first launch the yard had ever done in a socially distanced manner and the owner, separated from the occasion by the restrictions of the pandemic, viewed it remotely on a livestream. Surreal? Yes, agrees Antonio Santella, Sanlorenzo’s vice president of superyacht sales and director of new product design. “That has never happened before in our history. But the show must go on.”

The 62Steel was developed to slot into Sanlorenzo’s Steel superyacht range between the 52Steel , which lies inside 500GT regulations, the 57Steel and the company’s 64/70-metre flagship. This is the first of this new line, built on the same platform as the larger 64 and completed despite difficulties and delays in the supply chain that plagued businesses in 2020.

Sanlorenzo has no wish to extend production beyond 70 metres, but it did want to evolve a modern, keen-edged range for its loyal clan of 900 owners, past and present, to move through when they wanted to explore further or live and work on board for longer periods.

“The story of this yacht was born in-house because we have long experience and contact with the family of owners of yachts of all sizes, so we were able to capture all the requests and dreams,” says Santella. This was exactly the case for the owner of this yacht, a longtime owner of a 46-metre Sanlorenzo who wanted to spend more time on board and have more space to enjoy with his family. It’s also an approach likely to find wide appeal in a post-pandemic world, where many owners are placing greater value on the seclusion and comforts a superyacht provides.

Sanlorenzo’s objective was to produce a yacht that had expansive private spaces and bright, open views to connect guests with the sea. One feature was paramount: a large owner’s suite on the upper deck with windows out on the world, a totally private terrace and swimming pool and a study. In addition, it was to have an adjacent saloon that could be used exclusively by the owner to form a private apartment across the whole deck.

Another essential was to have a large beach club area that would belie the yacht’s size with space and facilities for 12 guests. The 62Steel also had to have two large garages for a main tender of 9.5 metres and a service tender and toys, with these located in the middle of the boat so that launching and operation would not interfere with the beach club zone.

The lines were drawn to give the yacht a purposeful profile, with a full, chined bow and straight lines that include the deck windows running aft. Accommodation and technical spaces are laid out over five decks, with the exterior design, structure and general arrangements all done in-house at Sanlorenzo. A steel hull and aluminium superstructure strikes an equilibrium between strength, cost and speed.

Compared with previous generations of Sanlorenzo designs, this harnesses numerous technical advances. To take one example of the step change she represents, the 62Steel can make a comfortable 16.5 knots, but ease back to a long-range cruising speed of 11 knots, and the fuel consumption shrinks to 200 litres per hour, less than the owner’s previous very much smaller, lighter yacht. This is a boat designed to be at home in the Mediterranean but easily able to cross the Atlantic or the Pacific.

While the exterior design and general arrangements were all done in house, Francesco Paszkowski Design was brought in to draw up a plan that emphasised the yacht’s crucial open spaces.

“It’s very important to note that this is a second boat for the same owner, and we knew each other from [the previous 46-metre boat] so we started this project with a nice connection,” says Margherita Casprini, who worked on the 62Steel project with Francesco Paszkowski. “We know all the family very well and we started with a comfortable approach, understanding that they want to have a very private family boat.”

An important aspect was the owner’s wish to use discreet, natural colours and Jerusalem stone, as was featured on his previous yacht. This pale, soft textured limestone, used on some of the greatest public buildings of antiquity, is a theme throughout, but in particular abundance in the entrance to the main saloon from the aft deck, the wall that divides the dining room and lounge in the saloon and the main lobby stairs.

“Starting from that choice we put together a mood board – a selection of natural materials – and then we collected all the other materials around that,” explains Casprini. “The concept was to have a comfortable and really relaxing atmosphere on board, so we also used oak treated with smooth matt grey colour and have some accents on some furniture with ebony as a point of attraction.”

Casprini’s virtual tour starts in the beach club at the aft end of the lower deck. One of the most impressive areas of the yacht, she points out, the space expands with a large stern platform and balconies port and starboard to form an area totalling 117 square metres. This area is, says Casprini proudly, “the masterpiece of this boat and the 62Steel line – together with the area in the bow.”

Casprini is referring to the other cornerstone of this design, the owner’s apartment on the upper deck. The bedroom itself looks directly forward though floor-to-ceiling windows. Two external doors open out on to a private terrace and sunbathing area and a pool. Layered beyond that is a longer view out over the bow to the horizon. This is an entirely private area, totally sheltered from view from the bridge deck above.

The whole of the upper deck can be reserved for the owner’s exclusive use. Accessed by a lift, this deck includes a study in which the owner can work with someone else without disturbing with his wife in their apartment. It includes an adjoining sky lounge which can be used as the main cinema area for the family, or closed off so that the entire 210 square metre space is a private apartment.

Guest accommodation is on the main deck in four twin and two double cabins. The concept in these was to have a snug feeling. The walls are finished in textured wallpaper and oak, and there are bookshelf niches in Jerusalem stone with metal detailing and desks in contrasting dark, gloss-finished ebony. The bedheads are covered with velvet.

In the VIP twins, a rail has been inset into the wall panels so that the beds can slide together to form a double. Where stainless steel detail has been used here and elsewhere throughout the yacht, it has been treated to create a darker, cloudy matt finish. “We were looking to have a smooth, vintage effect everywhere,” explains Casprini.

The shared spaces, the dining room and saloon on the same deck, are in the same theme. The centrepiece of the dining room is a large table especially designed for the yacht by Francesco Paszkowski Design . This is ebony finished in 100 gloss to give it a lustrous, mirror-like finish, while two additional leaves can extend it to seat up to 16 people. This room is bright, with views on both sides and light drawn in from the main saloon and aft deck through a window. It is, nevertheless, private as the glass contains a laminated layer of metallic mesh.

Altogether the living areas on the main deck share 90 square metres of space, including the saloon and the connecting aft deck. As in the owner’s saloon/cinema room on the deck above, the sofas and armchairs were all made by Minotti. A games table to starboard was made in ebony with a metal finish in the same style as the dining room table, and the central field is a soft carpet woven in a geometric design. This was chosen by the owner and his wife and handmade specially in two colours of silk and wool by a small company in Florence.

As elsewhere on board, the walls are in a matt grey-finished oak with details of Jerusalem stone and cloudy, matt-finished stainless steel. It looks much lighter than this sounds, since the saloon joins up with the outdoor living area and guest swimming pool via connecting doors.

The 62Steel is a formula, says Sanlorenzo, that provides almost everything that the shipyard’s larger flagship can offer. While not a full custom build, it has layout options that allow owners to choose an interior to fit their plans. Powered by two Caterpillar 3512C engines, she is capable of a top speed of 16.5 knots, yet has a transatlantic-plus range of 5,000 nautical miles at an easy 11 knots.

Careful thought was given to amenities for longer term living for guests and up to 14 crew. “We have taken care of the comfort of the crew,” says Antonio Santella of Sanlorenzo. “They have space where they can have a gym, they have a huge area for a dinette, their own galley. It is important for them to be happy.”

Self-sufficiency for long-term cruising was built into the formula. “Everything is oversized – the generator, the watermaker,” Santella adds. “There is a huge space on the lower deck for a big freezer and fridge, a cool room for garbage and a compactor. These are all for the longer times we believe people want to spend on board.”

The new owner of this yacht will spend this season in the Mediterranean but then plans to go much further afield. The next stages are likely to be the Caribbean and the Far East. This yacht was always conceived as a home from home, to be enjoyed by the family and not for charter. The intention is to spend as much as five or six months on board each year.

This combination of wide-ranging capabilities, space and comfort at this size is proving to be something of a sweet spot for Sanlorenzo. As this yacht was launched, hull No 2 was in construction to be delivered at the end of this year for a second owner, and the hull and superstructure of No 3 have also been completed for a fast delivery.

“The structure and the design and technical improvements are all points where the owner of a smaller Sanlorenzo can see a big step,” says Santella. “This design really has become the only 62-metre yacht on the market with the same features as a yacht of 80 metres and over.”

This first Sanlorenzo 62Steel completed all her sea trials and was handed over in March 2021. The delivery came just as countries tentatively began to loosen their borders again. By the strangest of coincidences, this yacht’s defining concept of private spaces that open out to a boundless world could hardly be more appropriate. Casting off will feel like being reborn.

Sanlorenzo 62 Meter Steel Motor Yacht CLOUD 9 Sold

By Robert Bowman | Posted On Apr 12, 2022 Updated On Feb 08, 2024

United Yacht Sales is pleased to announce the sale of CLOUD 9, a 2021 Sanlorenzo 62m (201-feet) Steel Motor Yacht. The 62 Steel is the second largest model offered by Sanlorenzo Yachts which made its debut at last year's Monaco Yacht Show. "CLOUD 9 is a spectacular superyacht that has long-range capabilities," said Juan Morillo , who represented the buying party in the sale. "She is one of less than 200 motor yachts in this size range in the world and can accommodate up to 12 of your favorite guests along with a total of 14 crew members to cater to your every whim." Juan also recently represented the buyers in the sale of ISLA , a 2020 Majesty 100.

"We took several trips to Monaco, Italy, and Turkey to see various motor yachts with this particular client," Juan continued. "CLOUD 9 was chosen because of the high quality that is produced at the Sanlorenzo shipyard, but also some of the remarkable features in the design like the infinity pool and the beach club." This 2021 62 Steel was listed for sale for less than 250 days before coming under contract. The asking price at the time of sale was $64 million. Special thank you to Burgess Monaco agent Tim Vickers who represented the selling party in the sale.

"This deal took many months and many trips all over the world," said Juan. "But in the end, I believe my client will be quite happy with their new superyacht."

(Video below from Sanlorenzo Yacht on Youtube.)

If there is one thing that CLOUD 9 has plenty of, it's space. At over 200-feet in length and a 11.8m (nearly 39 foot) beam, this yacht's five decks are voluminous, as well as intelligently designed to maximize each zone. The long, continuous dark panes of glass that line both sides of the hull allow the interior to accentuate the views while flooding each room with natural light. "The Sanlorenzo was a little smaller than my client would have liked, but it has everything he was looking for incorporated in it."

Perhaps no space on board this Sanlorenzo is as welcoming or invigorating as the aft beach club and main-deck pool. As seen in the image below, the exterior of CLOUD 9 provides your guests with multiple opportunities for sunbathing and relaxing. With the infinity view pool, the opening side platforms that add an extra 131 square feet of space, and the integration of all of the stern decks, the aft part of this yacht feels like one continuous space.

Overhead View Of Stern Decks

Because the bottom of the main deck pool is all glass, the beach club underneath receives a wonderful display of dancing light as the sun shines through the water. This acts as a skylight for the beach club which already has exceptional on-water views. With the fold-out balcony, a hammam, and extra seating, all of your guests can enjoy this relaxing area. And with a separate tender garage, the beach club is not a converted storage area.

The interior of CLOUD 9 features a blend of timeless, classical, and functional designs that complement the ocean views with comfortable opulence. Succulent natural woods and materials are used throughout that create a neutral, inviting color palette. Grey Oak, Macassar Ebony, and Pale Jerusalem Limestone are among some of the materials used throughout the interior. Much of the furniture was specially created for CLOUD 9, while some of the loose pieces are from high-end Italian furniture designers. The interior was created by Francesco Paszkowski, who has experience with luxury brands like Custom Line and Baglietto . "Our long-standing collaboration with Sanlorenzo allowed us to create interiors with a distinctly contemporary feel," remarked Francesco about the project.

salon on Cloud 9

The formal dining area on the Sanlorenzo 62M is located at the entrance to the main deck and is separated from the salon by a glass wall that has a unique metal mesh embedded in it for a unique and stunning detail. Shelves have been designed into the space to hold pieces of art collected by the owner while nearby cabinets hold your cutlery. Even in the dining area, your guests will enjoy the sunset views while socializing.

While most yachts consist of an owner's stateroom, the Sanlorenzo 62M features an owner's deck that resembles a home within a home. With over 650 square feet of space, the private apartment on board features a generously-sized lounge area complete with large couch, entertainment center, and picture-windows lining the rooms. The master suite is simply stunning. A skylight provides views of the stars at night inside the full-beam cabin that is a luxurious oasis while at sea.

In addition to the master suite, there are 6 en-suite guest staterooms, all luxuriously and comfortably appointed. One of the guest cabins can double as a massage room if desired.

Forward in the master suite is a door leading to an outside, private deck complete with a counter current pool. Windows line the master suite with views of the private deck pool with the horizon in the background. Enjoy a swim in total privacy.

Also on the upper deck, CLOUD 9 features a home cinema, game room, and outdoor dining area complete with a bar. Whether cruising the Mediterranean or enjoy the islands, your guests will be enthralled with the exterior resort-like living spaces.

CLOUD 9's propulsion consists of twin CAT 3,512 C engines that cruise comfortably at 15 knots with a maximum speed of 17 knots. The steel hull and aluminum superstructure gives CLOUD 9 a weight of 1300 gross tons (2.9 million pounds!). With a capacity to carry over 31,000 gallons of fuel on board, your range while cruising is significant.

Up on the flybridge there is room for a rear sun terrace with loungers, a dining table and a walk-in, marble-topped wet-bar with a grill and an ice-chipper. Heading indoors you will be enchanted by an elevated living space and an enclosed pilothouse fitted with the latest navigational technology like a Team Italia I-Bridge and a set of touchscreens. One level down you will find the upper deck, where yet another sun terrace is joined by a sedate upper lounge with sofas, armchairs and a poker table. Occupying the front portion of this level, however, is an astonishing owner’s stateroom. The curved front walls of this room boast floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding glass doors looking out onto a private owner’s terrace with a jacuzzi spa-pool and space for a whole host of sunpads. Clear the sunpads away and, like magic, this foredeck turns into a sizeable Helipad capable of hosting a VLR helicopter. There is also space in here for a king-sized bed, side sofas and chairs, a walk-in dressing room, a cinema room, a private office, a skylight, suede-lined wall panels and two lavish, stone-lined bathrooms, one with a bathtub and the other with a wet-room shower.

A teak-lined aft-cockpit on the main deck features a transom sofa and a wide sunpad that splits apart at the touch of a button to reveal a glass-lined swimming pool underneath. Side steps lead down to a water-level beach club with three fold-out bulwarks that transform into floating terraces, with access to a living room with a glazed roof looking up towards the pool, a gym and a mosaic-lined hammam sauna. Due to the beach club tender storage has been moved amidship, and there are two garage openings each capable of hosting extra-large jet tenders.

Interiors are subject to customization but the first model in the line featured Jerusalem stone surrounds, metallic detailing, gloss-finished Macassar ebony, grey oak floors, Florentine silk textures and furnishings from chic brands like Minotti and Yachtline. The main salon features a C-shaped sofa and a formal dining table, while six en-suite guest cabins for up to twelve overnight guests occupy the front portion of this level. On the lower deck, meanwhile, you will discover a live-in galley kitchen with metallic accents and Miele appliances as well as direct access to a spacious crew quarters and a unique underdeck with extra storage facilities.

Twin Caterpillar 3512C diesel engines prompt top speeds of almost 17 knots, with comfortable cruising speeds of around 14 knots. At an economy cruise of 11 knots, you can expect a cruising range of 5000 nautical miles, making this yacht a great option for lengthy, ocean-going expeditions.

Among the characteristics features of the 62Steel project, the owner’s apartment has an area of 210 square meters, of which 97 indoors, organized in the nighttime zone, a studio, two spacious bathrooms and a walk-in dressing room, and 123 outdoors at the bow of the upper owner’s deck.

The focal point of convivial pleasures is the main living area on the main deck, sharing the 90 square meters of space with the indoor dining room that seats up to 16 persons. At the stern of this deck, the outdoor living space borders on the guest swimming pool, designed with a sliding roof that transforms it into a sundeck of almost 8 square meters.

The stern of the lower deck opens to form an impressive beach club that extends into the deck for 92 m2 containing lounge areas, a bar zone, a fitness space and a hammam, joined by another 40 m2 of folding terraces at the stern and the two sides, offering guests a magnificent “au fil de l’eau” experience for swimming, diving and sunbathing, in close proximity to the sparkling sea.

The 62Steel superyacht has been designed by the technical and styling divisions of Sanlorenzo with a streamlined profile. The structure, volumes and layout have been created starting with the concept of the 64Steel, the Sanlorenzo flagship with a length of 64 meters and 1600 GRT, a yacht that has set a new standard for the industry.

Sanlorenzo 62Steel makes its official debut for the international public and press at the Monaco Yacht Show 2020. Three units are already in the construction phase, with the first slated for launch in the month of May 2020, the second in April 2021, and the third for delivery in 2022.

Sanlorenzo 62Steel: Living on Cloud 9

  • September 21, 2021

Among world premieres at the 2021 Monaco Yacht Show, the 62Steel is Sanlorenzo’s second-biggest model, distinguished by an aft infinity pool, three-sided beach club and a stunning owner’s deck with an expansive bedroom facing a private pool and sunbathing area. By Clare Mahon.

The numbers are impressive: 61.5m LOA, 11.8m beam, 1,300GT volume and five decks if you count the tank deck. Cabins for 12 guests and accommodation for a generously sized crew of 13 or 14. That all adds up to plenty of space to give Cloud 9 , the first Sanlorenzo 62Steel, real nirvana potential.

The exterior lines were designed by Sanlorenzo’s technical and style departments. With long, continuous panes of dark glass that contrast elegantly with the white steel hull, the yacht is slender and elegant with a hard chine at the bow to deflect water from the foredeck.

Open aft decks include the beach club, main-deck pool, owner’s deck and bridge deck

Boarding Cloud 9 feels like walking into a garden on a sunny day. The spaces are vast, open and welcoming. On the main deck, an infinity pool with large lateral sun pads beckons and after a dip you could sit under the cabana, shaded by linen curtains that sway in the breeze.

The indoor and outdoor spaces are so well integrated you almost don’t realise that what looks like a cabana is partly the main deck’s aft cockpit and partly the entrance to the main saloon, in this case set up with a long dining table so guests can enjoy the breeze and a meal at the same time.

The swimming pool on the aft main deck has an infinity view and a glass bottom

Symmetrical staircases lead down from the sun pads to the beach club. Sometimes beach clubs can feel like an afterthought, enjoyable once you get to them, but a bit cut off from the rest of the yacht. Not so aboard Cloud 9 , where the stern sections of the lower and main decks are connected both physically and visually, so they feel like one continuous space.

Even the bottom of the pool on the main deck is glass, so it acts as a skylight and gives the beach club beneath it a kind of under-the-sea sensation. As if that wasn’t enough, this already large yacht has a transom and side platforms that open to add an extra 40sqm of space on the water. There’s room for a crowd.

Sanlorenzo, 62Steel, Yacht, Superyacht, Cloud 9, Monaco Yacht Show, Francesco Paszkowski, Margherita Casprini

The beach club includes waterside balconies (above) and a hammam (below)

Sanlorenzo, 62Steel, Yacht, Superyacht, Cloud 9, Monaco Yacht Show, Francesco Paszkowski, Margherita Casprini

And this beach club doesn’t have to do double duty as a tender garage because there are symmetrical garages midships with their own side-opening hull doors that house a 9m tender, a service tender and toys such as jetskis. With a bar, fitness equipment and a hammam, this beach club is close to sybaritic perfection.

ENTERING A NEW WORLD

Back on the main deck, the dining area at the entrance is subtly divided from the rest of the saloon by a glass wall embedded with a unique metal mesh to give it visual appeal. Silvery grey surfaces shimmer while the colour palette is neutral and never jarring, played out in luxurious natural materials like grey oak, macassar ebony and pale Jerusalem limestone.

Sanlorenzo, 62Steel, Yacht, Superyacht, Cloud 9, Monaco Yacht Show, Francesco Paszkowski, Margherita Casprini

The interior is by Francesco Paszkowski in collaboration with Margherita Casprini

“Creating the interior design was an exciting process,” says Francesco Paszkowski whose studio penned the interiors in collaboration with Margherita Casprini. “Our long-standing collaboration with Sanlorenzo allowed us to create interiors with a distinctly contemporary feel.”

While many pieces of loose furniture are by top Italian furniture manufacturers such as Minotti, other pieces were made to measure by the specialised artisans at Yachtline. The designers also created niches and shelves for displaying artwork and other collections.

Sanlorenzo, 62Steel, Yacht, Superyacht, Cloud 9, Monaco Yacht Show, Francesco Paszkowski, Margherita Casprini

The formal dining area is forward of the saloon on the main deck

Proceeding fore on the main deck past the comfortable main living area, you arrive at the lobby where a staircase winds around an elevator that leads to all five decks.

Fore on the main deck are six en-suite guest cabins, one of which can do double duty as a massage room. All the guest cabins are fitted with soft and luxurious materials and have carefully crafted details such headboards in suede and walls covered in silk velvet.

OWNER’S PARADISE

Everybody is well provided for aboard Cloud 9 , but the owners are even more so. A generous half of the upper deck, over 200sqm, is for the couple’s private suite. The apartment starts with a large living area followed by a study.

Sanlorenzo, 62Steel, Yacht, Superyacht, Cloud 9, Monaco Yacht Show, Francesco Paszkowski, Margherita Casprini

The interior of the owner’s deck includes a private lounge

The original owners (the boat has since been listed for sale) tailored the layout to meet their different needs: she chose to have a proper dressing room and a bathtub in her large bathroom. He chose a more conventional closet and was happy with a smaller bathroom with just a shower.

While a couple can go their own separate ways getting dressed and ready, they converge again in the cabin area proper where a centrally placed bed is backed by a glass partition wall.

Sanlorenzo, 62Steel, Yacht, Superyacht, Cloud 9, Monaco Yacht Show, Francesco Paszkowski, Margherita Casprini

The stunning master suite forward benefits from a large skylight

The full-beam sleeping area is lit by a large skylight over the bed and looks out over the vast and open foredeck. The highlight of the stunning forward view is a glass-backed counter current pool that nipped a bit of headroom from some of the guest cabins below but allows the owners to have a swim at their own leisure and in complete privacy.

Thanks to a telescopic mast that disappears when not in use, the 140sqm foredeck is so completely open and unencumbered you could use it as a putting green.

Sanlorenzo, 62Steel, Yacht, Superyacht, Cloud 9, Monaco Yacht Show, Francesco Paszkowski, Margherita Casprini

The master suite has a welcoming view of the private foredeck

Aft on the upper deck is a cosy home cinema and game room and a large outdoor dining area with a bar. The yacht is ideal for warmer climates as the overall design prioritises outdoor deck spaces over larger indoor areas.

The aft section of the bridge deck can be set up for sunbathing and dining. Proceeding fore, the captain’s cabin is right by the bridge where the yacht is controlled via a Team Italia integrated I-Bridge.

Sanlorenzo, 62Steel, Yacht, Superyacht, Cloud 9, Monaco Yacht Show, Francesco Paszkowski, Margherita Casprini

The owner’s deck offers alfresco dining aft and there’s a similar area on the bridge deck above

With touchscreens that manage all nav-com equipment on board, this system can be modified to meet different yachts’ customisation requirements. In fact, the bridge aboard Cloud 9 was purpose developed to respond to the yacht’s ergonomics and technical space.

While the captain’s cabin is on the bridge deck, the rest of the crew have their quarters, mess and galley on the lower deck. All crew pathways including staircases are kept separate from guest areas to protect privacy on a model that shows what it’s like to live on Cloud 9 .

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

62 steel yacht

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

62 steel yacht

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

62 steel yacht

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

62 steel yacht

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

62 steel yacht

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

62 steel yacht

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

62 steel yacht

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.

The Comprehensive Guide to Moscow Nightlife

  • Posted on April 14, 2018 July 26, 2018
  • by Kings of Russia
  • 8 minute read

62 steel yacht

Moscow’s nightlife scene is thriving, and arguably one of the best the world has to offer – top-notch Russian women, coupled with a never-ending list of venues, Moscow has a little bit of something for everyone’s taste. Moscow nightlife is not for the faint of heart – and if you’re coming, you better be ready to go Friday and Saturday night into the early morning.

This comprehensive guide to Moscow nightlife will run you through the nuts and bolts of all you need to know about Moscow’s nightclubs and give you a solid blueprint to operate with during your time in Moscow.

What you need to know before hitting Moscow nightclubs

Prices in moscow nightlife.

Before you head out and start gaming all the sexy Moscow girls , we have to talk money first. Bring plenty because in Moscow you can never bring a big enough bankroll. Remember, you’re the man so making a fuzz of not paying a drink here or there will not go down well.

Luckily most Moscow clubs don’t do cover fees. Some electro clubs will charge 15-20$, depending on their lineup. There’s the odd club with a minimum spend of 20-30$, which you’ll drop on drinks easily. By and large, you can scope out the venues for free, which is a big plus.

Bottle service is a great deal in Moscow. At top-tier clubs, it starts at 1,000$. That’ll go a long way with premium vodka at 250$, especially if you have three or four guys chipping in. Not to mention that it’s a massive status boost for getting girls, especially at high-end clubs.

Without bottle service, you should estimate a budget of 100-150$ per night. That is if you drink a lot and hit the top clubs with the hottest girls. Scale down for less alcohol and more basic places.

Dress code & Face control

Door policy in Moscow is called “face control” and it’s always the guy behind the two gorillas that gives the green light if you’re in or out.

In Moscow nightlife there’s only one rule when it comes to dress codes:

You can never be underdressed.

People dress A LOT sharper than, say, in the US and that goes for both sexes. For high-end clubs, you definitely want to roll with a sharp blazer and a pocket square, not to mention dress shoes in tip-top condition. Those are the minimum requirements to level the playing field vis a vis with other sharply dressed guys that have a lot more money than you do. Unless you plan to hit explicit electro or underground clubs, which have their own dress code, you are always on the money with that style.

Getting in a Moscow club isn’t as hard as it seems: dress sharp, speak English at the door and look like you’re in the mood to spend all that money that you supposedly have (even if you don’t). That will open almost any door in Moscow’s nightlife for you.

Types of Moscow Nightclubs

In Moscow there are four types of clubs with the accompanying female clientele:

High-end clubs:

These are often crossovers between restaurants and clubs with lots of tables and very little space to dance. Heavy accent on bottle service most of the time but you can work the room from the bar as well. The hottest and most expensive girls in Moscow go there. Bring deep pockets and lots of self-confidence and you have a shot at swooping them.

Regular Mid-level clubs:

They probably resemble more what you’re used to in a nightclub: big dancefloors, stages and more space to roam around. Bottle service will make you stand out more but you can also do well without. You can find all types of girls but most will be in the 6-8 range. Your targets should always be the girls drinking and ideally in pairs. It’s impossible not to swoop if your game is at least half-decent.

Basic clubs/dive bars:

Usually spots with very cheap booze and lax face control. If you’re dressed too sharp and speak no Russian, you might attract the wrong type of attention so be vigilant. If you know the local scene you can swoop 6s and 7s almost at will. Usually students and girls from the suburbs.

Electro/underground clubs:

Home of the hipsters and creatives. Parties there don’t mean meeting girls and getting drunk but doing pills and spacing out to the music. Lots of attractive hipster girls if that is your niche. That is its own scene with a different dress code as well.

62 steel yacht

What time to go out in Moscow

Moscow nightlife starts late. Don’t show up at bars and preparty spots before 11pm because you’ll feel fairly alone. Peak time is between 1am and 3am. That is also the time of Moscow nightlife’s biggest nuisance: concerts by artists you won’t know and who only distract your girls from drinking and being gamed. From 4am to 6am the regular clubs are emptying out but plenty of people, women included, still hit up one of the many afterparty clubs. Those last till well past 10am.

As far as days go: Fridays and Saturdays are peak days. Thursday is an OK day, all other days are fairly weak and you have to know the right venues.

The Ultimate Moscow Nightclub List

Short disclaimer: I didn’t add basic and electro clubs since you’re coming for the girls, not for the music. This list will give you more options than you’ll be able to handle on a weekend.

Preparty – start here at 11PM

Classic restaurant club with lots of tables and a smallish bar and dancefloor. Come here between 11pm and 12am when the concert is over and they start with the actual party. Even early in the night tons of sexy women here, who lean slightly older (25 and up).

The second floor of the Ugolek restaurant is an extra bar with dim lights and house music tunes. Very small and cozy with a slight hipster vibe but generally draws plenty of attractive women too. A bit slower vibe than Valenok.

Very cool, spread-out venue that has a modern library theme. Not always full with people but when it is, it’s brimming with top-tier women. Slow vibe here and better for grabbing contacts and moving on.

62 steel yacht

High-end: err on the side of being too early rather than too late because of face control.

Secret Room

Probably the top venue at the moment in Moscow . Very small but wildly popular club, which is crammed with tables but always packed. They do parties on Thursdays and Sundays as well. This club has a hip-hop/high-end theme, meaning most girls are gold diggers, IG models, and tattooed hip hop chicks. Very unfavorable logistics because there is almost no room no move inside the club but the party vibe makes it worth it. Strict face control.

Close to Secret Room and with a much more favorable and spacious three-part layout. This place attracts very hot women but also lots of ball busters and fakes that will leave you blue-balled. Come early because after 4am it starts getting empty fast. Electronic music.

A slightly kitsch restaurant club that plays Russian pop and is full of gold diggers, semi-pros, and men from the Caucasus republics. Thursday is the strongest night but that dynamic might be changing since Secret Room opened its doors. You can swoop here but it will be a struggle.

62 steel yacht

Mid-level: your sweet spot in terms of ease and attractiveness of girls for an average budget.

Started going downwards in 2018 due to lax face control and this might get even worse with the World Cup. In terms of layout one of the best Moscow nightclubs because it’s very big and bottle service gives you a good edge here. Still attracts lots of cute girls with loose morals but plenty of provincial girls (and guys) as well. Swooping is fairly easy here.

I haven’t been at this place in over a year, ever since it started becoming ground zero for drunken teenagers. Similar clientele to Icon but less chic, younger and drunker. Decent mainstream music that attracts plenty of tourists. Girls are easy here as well.

Sort of a Coyote Ugly (the real one in Moscow sucks) with party music and lots of drunken people licking each others’ faces. Very entertaining with the right amount of alcohol and very easy to pull in there. Don’t think about staying sober in here, you’ll hate it.

Artel Bessonitsa/Shakti Terrace

Electronic music club that is sort of a high-end place with an underground clientele and located between the teenager clubs Icon and Gipsy. Very good music but a bit all over the place with their vibe and their branding. You can swoop almost any type of girl here from high-heeled beauty to coked-up hipsters, provided they’re not too sober.

62 steel yacht

Afterparty: if by 5AM  you haven’t pulled, it’s time to move here.

Best afterparty spot in terms of trying to get girls. Pretty much no one is sober in there and savage gorilla game goes a long way. Lots of very hot and slutty-looking girls but it can be hard to tell apart who is looking for dick and who is just on drugs but not interested. If by 9-10am you haven’t pulled, it is probably better to surrender.

The hipster alternative for afterparties, where even more drugs are in play. Plenty of attractive girls there but you have to know how to work this type of club. A nicer atmosphere and better music but if you’re desperate to pull, you’ll probably go to Miks.

Weekday jokers: if you’re on the hunt for some sexy Russian girls during the week, here are two tips to make your life easier.

Ladies night on Wednesdays means this place gets pretty packed with smashed teenagers and 6s and 7s. Don’t pull out the three-piece suit in here because it’s a “simpler” crowd. Definitely your best shot on Wednesdays.

If you haven’t pulled at Chesterfield, you can throw a Hail Mary and hit up Garage’s Black Music Wednesdays. Fills up really late but there are some cute Black Music groupies in here. Very small club. Thursday through Saturday they do afterparties and you have an excellent shot and swooping girls that are probably high.

Shishas Sferum

This is pretty much your only shot on Mondays and Tuesdays because they offer free or almost free drinks for women. A fairly low-class club where you should watch your drinks. As always the case in Moscow, there will be cute girls here on any day of the week but it’s nowhere near as good as on the weekend.

In a nutshell, that is all you need to know about where to meet Moscow girls in nightlife. There are tons of options, and it all depends on what best fits your style, based on the type of girls that you’re looking for.
