Earning My Ears

  • Nov 9, 2023

Going for a 3 night trip in January to see EPCOT - festival of arts. Also going to Hollywood Studios, but will split it with pool time in the afternoon, since we are coming from the SoCal area and have experienced many of the attractions there at Disneyland , so we won't be in a big rush to do everything there. It's my first time going since I was a child, and my spouse's first time going ever to WDW, so we're brand to new all of these resorts/areas. Since the skyliner will be down during our trip, I wanted to stay somewhere on Crescent Lake for the convenient travel to both parks. Trying to decide between Yacht & Swolphin. I can get a resort view room at yacht for 508/night and a deluxe resort view w/balcony at Swolphin for 385 (including the resort fee). My general max budget for any resort is around 500, so Yacht is right at my upper limit. Just trying to get the opinion of people who are familiar with this area, as to which would be a better deal for the amenities included. With the pool afternoon, Stormalong Bay seems like the obvious choice to me, but I've heard good things about the pools at Swan & Dolphin too. Let me know what y'all would do this in situation - thanks!

The pool complex at the Swan and Dolphin is not SAB, but still very nice. And, in January it may be too cool to want a pool day. They also have the best beds on property. I would save the money, although that is a good rate for the YC.

I'd always prefer Crescent Lake over the Skyliner resorts. Definitely save the money and stay at Swan or Dolphin(ask about discounts). Swan and Dolphin have some of the best restaurants. Stormalong bay maybe if you have a younger child. Maybe watch some youtube videos on pools in that area to see if it's persuasion. If you decide to go to MK or AK you can easily walk to Boardwalk and Yacht Club and use their buses.

For the money, I would definitely pick Swolphin.

I agree, Swan or Dolphin. SAB is not my favorite (I know I am in the minority on that). It's way too crowded and can be challenging to find lounge chairs. Though as others have said, it might be too chilly for laying out by the pool in January. There is a parking charge at Swolphin, not sure if you figured that in or if it applies. Would still be less expensive than Y&B.

Being from CA, Jan at WDW was too cold for me for pooling so might not want to get too excited about that. Because it is such a special trip (first time for him) I would actually pay the extra for YC. Disney service, rooms are in good shape, easier walk to EP, everything will be in the bubble (like charging on your MB, it’s really nice to be able to charge on MBs at the festivals). Swolphin rooms can be hit or miss with regards to being in shape.

Retired and living 2 miles from The Castle.

I'd go for the Swolphin. Love the Yacht Club, but the rooms at the Swolphin are ver nice and the location is just as good. Save the money and go with the less expensive option.

tinabina919 said: Are the busses from Swan/Dolphin to MK/AK no good? We’ve stayed at both but only at dolphin for a short Epcot festival too. Yacht Club is great for feeling totally in the bubble and the pool is very nice but it does get pretty cold in January. I booked Swan for January after trying to decide the same, and we just stayed at the YC in July. Click to expand...

Busses from Swan to MK leave you off at ticket and transportation center so you’re better served walking to Yacht or Boardwalk and taking bus from there. We are not fond on Swan and Dolphin but stay there if we add on a night to a trip. Don’t like the room in Swan and Dolphin and if you decide to stay there to save money don’t go for the “theme park view” and save more money. We did Swan Deluxe theme park view and it was a view of the Boardwalk hotel and if you look over the Boardwalk hotel you might see a piece of Epcot. The Swan balcony was barely big enough for two of us to stand on so if saving money is the goal just get standard room at Swan or Dolphin. What about a different view at Yacht Club to save a few bucks? Also consider Boardwalk May be cheaper than Yacht. To us if we’re in Disney we want Disney. People at swan are very nice and service is good but I don’t know to me it just doesn’t feel Disney. In my opinion if it’s a first time, stay at a Disney property. Boardwalk Is a lot of fun and a great resort as well. If it’s a cool night sit on the lawn and watch a Disney Movie, roast marshmallow. The pools if it’s warm enough are so much more fun in the Disney resorts

If you want comfortable beds and pillow, go for the Swolphin. Also want to suggest checking Priceline. When I booked, rooms at the Swan Reserve were not available and the Dolphin was over $600 on the official Swolphin website. Priceline had a few rooms and we got ours for upper $200s. There are also DVC rental agencies that can get you great prices for the villas around Crescent Lake.

Mouseketeer

You'll get more of the Disney "bubble" with YC. Even though Swolphin is on property, it's still a Marriott. There may some disney decorations in the lobby but that's about it. I wouldn't worry too much about pool, Stormalong is nice, but so is the Grotto and I doubt you'll use it much in January. My question is what will you do with the savings at Swolphin? If going to your max budget at YC means skimping elsewhere like dining, I'd go Swolphin hands down. Sometimes just knowing I spent $XXX already I may try and cutback elsewhere in the back of my head, lessening the vacation.

Make sure you are adding everything in for a price comparison. If you will have a car, I think Swan/Dolphin will charge for parking and YC won't. I think Swan/Dolphin have a mandatory resort fee, and some families don't get much value out of it. (Looks like OP knew that.) I think the Disney website doesn't show tax on the initial search page. Some people like to use a Magic Band to charge everything to the room; you can do that at YC but not at Swan/Dolphin. As for "The Disney Bubble," I think you will still feel it when you are at Swan/Dolphin because you are on Disney property and within walking distance of Disney-owned hotels. When you walk through the Dolphin lobby, you do feel like you could be in a hotel anywhere. But I personally wouldn't base my room choice on that, because how much of your trip will be spent walking through the lobby? Keep in mind that when Disney remodels its hotel rooms, it sometimes puts in fewer Disney touches. If you expect to see images of Mickey and Donald everywhere, you might not even find that in a Disney-owned hotel.

For a first time ever trip, I would stay at the Yacht Club. I have stayed at the Swan and wasn’t impressed with the room. Most definitely did not feel the Disney vibe at the Swan. Just wasn’t the same.

Wood Nymph

You can use the room service in the dolphin, Swan app and get Mickey waffles delivered to your room or go to the fuse the dolphin mini mart to get the Mickey waffles, Yeah that’s a plus. Also, at the dolphin, you can get dole whip in the fuse mini mart. To my knowledge, none of the other crescent lake, Disney resorts have dole whip available. The dolphin buys a directly from Dole. That’s part of the reasons why the dolphin swan in the swan reserve are my opinion, the best value for a deluxe hotel that gets deluxe hotel privileges from Disney.

It really depends on what you are looking for and if paying for YC is going to be a pinch. YC is my all time favorite WDW resort and I've stayed at almost all of them. Having said that, the last 5 years or so I've been staying at Swan/Dolphin. I just couldn't justify the difference in price. The rooms at Swan/Dolphin are Marriot rooms. Most of them I've stayed in have been fine, and in some case better than some of the WDW rooms I've stayed in, in some not so much. My last stay I was actually able to get a better rate at BWI with my AP discount then I could at Dolphin (I have a car so when I added the resort fee and the parking it was less at BWI). I will admit there was something better staying at a WDW resort. It just felt right. I had a full balcony and watched Epcot FWs every night with my feet propped up in my jammies. Now, had it not been less, I would have been at Dolphin. I do like the food choices at Swan/Dolphin better than the Crescent Lake options but the fact is, they are all so close you can go to any of them you want. I don't like Storm Along Bay, it's too crowded for me so if I stay at YC or BC I tend to use the quiet pools. About room service at Swan/Dolphin. Last time I was there I could not get it to work on my phone (Android). At the time, the only way to order it was using the App. I did just pull it up and while it's too late right now it does look like it works. As far as I know, the WDW owned resorts are still not doing room service (I think maybe Poly or GF or one of the MK ones might be).

Renting a Pontoon Boat at Walt Disney World

While it’s certainly fun to enjoy the theme parks at Walt Disney World, sometimes it’s nice to get away from the crowds for a while. There are a number of options to do that on Disney property, and one of those is renting a pontoon boat.

Pontoon boats in the marina at WDW

Recently four friends and I rented a pontoon boat at Disney’s Yacht/ Disney’s Beach Club Villas marina. It was a terrific experience and surprisingly affordable.

Marilyn and friends on a Pontoon boat at WDW

Currently, pontoon boats are also available at the Contemporary Resort and the Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa . The Yacht and Beach Club pontoons sail around the waters of Crescent Lake, while the pontoons at the Contemporary and Grand Floridian can sail in the waters of Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon. As guests cruise along, they will see theme park views, resorts, wildlife, natural surroundings, inlets, and more.

View of the Seven Seas Lagoon and the Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

Pontoon boats hold up to ten guests. The rental locations at the marinas are currently open from 11 AM to 5 PM. Boat rentals are first-come, first-served; reservations are not available. I have experienced the pontoon boats a few times, and I’ve never had a problem getting one right away, yet I imagine VERY busy weeks might cause a wait for a pontoon.

Bayside Marina at WDW

My friends and I arrived in the early afternoon, and we were able to get a boat immediately. We each needed to sign a waiver, but only one group member was required to show a driver’s license. Life jackets are supplied free of charge, and it’s mandatory for any guests under the age of 12 to wear one. If guests 12 and over opt not to wear a life jacket, the Cast Members will still be sure your boat has enough for everyone.

Lifejackets at the Bayside Marina

It took no time to sign up and get going. Any guest 18 or over can pilot the boat. The pontoons are very large, but they move slowly, so almost anyone is capable of driving one. There are some rules to follow, such as being mindful of the no-wake zones and watching out for other boats. Although I did not pilot the boat this time, I have driven Pontoon boats a number of times with no problems at all.

pontoon boat with captain and passengers at WDW

Once you have been given the safety spiel, it’s time to get on the boat! The clock starts once you take off. The fee is $45 per half hour–for the entire party, not per person. If you have enough people in your group to fill the boat, that comes to $4.50 each! And there is a 15% discount for Disney Vacation Club members as well as Annual Pass Holders! Even with half the boat filled as ours was, the price was very reasonable. You can stay on the boat as long as you like; you’ll be charged when you return. Food and beverages are allowed on the pontoon, but no alcohol and no smoking. And no standing while the boat is moving.

view from a pontoon boat

If you leave from Yacht and Beach Club as we did, Friendship boats that take guests from Disney’s Hollywood Studios to the Epcot Resorts and to Epcot share the waterways with the pontoon boats. During the safety lecture, we were told to stay far away from those boats. To be sure everyone stays safe, Cast Members in smaller crafts are out on the water driving around to keep watch.

view of a Friendship boat

We were able to glide from the marina into the lake and then down the canal that leads to the Studios, passing Disney’s Boardwalk Villas .

view of Disney’s Boardwalk Villas from a pontoon boat

Continuing on, we passed some water birds and, in a short time, arrived at the front of Hollywood Studios . We lingered in front of the Studios for a while, enjoying the view, before we turned around to head back. Pontoon boats are NOT allowed to drive under the bridge that the Friendship boats use to get to Epcot.

view of a Friendship boat

FUN FACT: Many guests know the waters between Boardwalk and Yacht/Beach Clubs is called “Crescent Lake;” yet did you know that the smaller lake by Swan/Dolphin is called the “Half Moon” by the Cast Members who drive the Friendship boats? Plus, they refer to the canal that goes to Hollywood Studios as “The Disney Channel!”

view from a pontoon boat at WDW

A good time was had by all! It was lovely to get out on the water and enjoy the views. As an FYI, the pontoons that leave from the Contemporary and Grand Floridian have more waterways to sail on. I would recommend 30 minutes to see everything if leaving from Yacht/Beach and 60 minutes if departing from Contemporary or Grand Floridian Marinas. Of course, guests can stay out longer.

View of Crescent Lake

My family likes to pack a lunch and have a “picnic” on the water. One final comment: The boat is covered, but only halfway. If it’s super-hot, the people in the front of the boat will not have any shade, so if you have a large group, I suggest going when the temperatures aren’t very high.

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort Review (Is it worth it?)

Disney's Yacht Club Resort

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is one of the most beautiful and convenient hotels in all of Walt Disney World. With its classy design, enormous pool, and prime location, it’s easy to see why the Yacht Club at Disney World is such a highly sought after place to stay.

My family and I have visited numerous hotels on Disney property, but the Yacht Club always keeps us coming back for more. We love the close proximity to Disney’s Boardwalk, Epcot, and Hollywood Studios.

The multiple transportation options are a huge plus, especially for those who don’t like to solely rely on Disney buses. And of course we have to mention the Yacht Club’s pool, Stormalong Bay. This elaborate resort swimming area is arguably the best pool at the Walt Disney World Resort!

If you’re still not quite sold on the Yacht Club at Disney World or if you would like more information, continue reading below. In this post, we will cover everything you need to know about this deluxe Disney resort , including the activities, restaurants, and rooms available at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.

(This post may contain affiliate links. If you make a purchase through one of these links, I may receive a small compensation at no extra cost to you. Please see my disclosure policy at the bottom of this page for more details.)

Yacht Club Restaurants

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is full of all different types of restaurants. Since this hotel shares dining options with its sister resorts, you’ll find even more places to eat within a short walk of your room.

blue walls and club chairs with sign reading Ale and Compass Lounge

These are the Yacht Club restaurants you will find just a short stroll away:

  • Ale and Compass – sit-down restaurant in the Yacht Club that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner (also available to-go)
  • The Market at Ale and Compass – quick service restaurant at Yacht Club with to-go items and menu options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner
  • Yachtsman Steakhouse – fine dining restaurant at the Yacht Club that is open for dinner
  • Crew’s Cup Lounge – bar at the Yacht Club that features a small dinner menu and full bar
  • Cape May Cafe – offers a character meal breakfast buffet and sit-down dinner with no characters
  • Beach Club Marketplace – features to-go items and menu options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner
  • Beaches and Cream – available for lunch and dinner with reservations highly recommended
  • Martha’s Vineyard – offers appetizers and full bar
  • Hurricane Hanna’s Waterside Bar and Grill – pool restaurant with full bar and lunch/dinner options

Furthermore, the Yacht Club is located just a short walk away from Disney’s Boardwalk , where you’ll find additional restaurants and bars.

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is home to the most popular pool on Disney property. It’s such a hit that you’ll find cast members handing out wristbands at the entrance so that only hotel guests can enter.

pirate ship water slide

The main pool, Stormalong Bay, features a large sand bottom swimming area that’s super shallow and great for toddlers and little kids. There’s also a lazy river that’s a fan favorite in my household.

Guests can also enjoy other large swimming areas at Stormalong Bay, including an activities section where you’ll find games like pool volleyball. Stormalong Bay offers a large waterslide as well as a smaller slide that empties into a shallow pool.

empty pool and clubhouse at Yacht Club

In addition to Stormalong Bay, the Yacht Club in Disney World features a “quiet” pool that is seldom busy. This is a great spot to relax or swim laps.

Rooms

My family and I love the nautical decor and ambience of the Yacht Club guest rooms. Additionally, we appreciate that the rooms offer full balconies. In our post on Disney’s Beach Club vs Yacht Club , you’ll read about why these balconies are a major pro for Yacht Club compared to its sister resort.

toilet room, shower, and vanity and Disney's Yacht Club Resort

Disney’s Yacht Club features standard rooms and club level rooms. If you book a room with Club Level benefits, you get access to the Regatta Club. Here, you’ll find food and beverages offered at certain times throughout the day.

2 Queen beds and day bed at Yacht Club

Guest rooms at the Yacht Club come with views of the lake, pool, garden, or hotel rooftop/parking lot. These rooms typically feature 1 king bed or 2 queens. Some of them also offer a daybed. This means that if you book a room with 2 queens plus a daybed, you can sleep a family of five!

Prices at Yacht Club

Since Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is classified as a deluxe hotel at Disney World, you’ll notice that the prices are higher than at some of the other hotels. This is because the Yacht Club offers deluxe room space, extra amenities, and a prime location.

We will explain all the significance of all of these perks in more detail below, but it’s important to note that Disney’s Yacht Club truly offers a deluxe experience. The updated guest rooms feature plenty of space, including private balconies. Plus, the hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of other Disney hotels, restaurants, theme parks, and more.

Disney's Yacht Club Resort

If you would really like to experience the location, amenities, and entertainment at the Yacht Club without the hefty price tag, we suggest booking a room at the sister hotel through David’s Vacation Club Rentals. You will be blown away by the cost savings on David’s DVC rental site! We usually save hundreds of dollars per night by using this method to book a room at a deluxe resort.

Just use the cost calculator to see exactly how much a room costs at Yacht Club’s sister resort, Disney’s Beach Club Villas. These villas are located just a short walk away from the Yacht Club hotel, and they both share restaurants, pools, and activities. While you can reserve one of the villas on the official Disney website, we prefer to book through David’s DVC rental website . We have used this reputable company for years to rent timeshare points at Disney villas.

Things to Do at Disney’s Yacht Club

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort sits on the same property as two sister resorts: Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Disney’s Beach Club Villas. These three hotels share restaurants, activities, amenities, and entertainment options with each other.

sand bottom pool with Disney's Yacht Club in background

One of my family’s favorite things about the Yacht Club is that you don’t need to leave the property to have fun. So, if you’re looking for activities at Disney outside of the theme parks, the Yacht Club offers lots of great options. These are our favorite things to do at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort when enjoying a relaxing day at Disney:

See Epcot Fireworks

We recommend walking to the bridge that connects the Disney Boardwalk to the Yacht and Beach Club Resort to enjoy the nightly Epcot fireworks show. You can even grab some ice cream to enjoy during the presentation.

Take a Ride on the Skyliner

Since the Disney Skyliner sits just outside of Epcot’s International Gateway entrance, you can easily access it from the Yacht Club Resort. Just take the short (less than ten minutes) walk toward Epcot and hop on the Skyliner for free!

Book a fishing excursion on Crescent Lake for a truly unique experience while staying at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.

Eat Ice Cream

Disney’s Yacht Club is home to one of our favorite WDW restaurants, Beaches and Cream . While reservations can be difficult to snag at this popular dining spot, you can access the walk-up window to order shakes and ice cream to-go.

Dine with Characters

Check out Cape May Cafe during breakfast/brunch when it becomes Minnie’s Beach Bash. Guests can meet Goofy, Minnie, and Donald while they dine at the breakfast buffet.

Float along the Lazy River

The Beach Club’s main pool, Stormalong Bay, offers many fun features. One of our favorite things to do at the pool is to grab (free) tubes to float along the lazy river.

Play Games in the Arcade

Lafferty Place Arcade offers lots of fun games for kids and adults to enjoy. This is a particularly great place to spend time at Disney World when it’s raining.

Ride the Friendship Boats

The Disney water taxi picks up visitors near the Yacht Club. You can ride this free boat to the Disney Boardwalk, Swan and Dolphin Resorts, Epcot entrance, and Hollywood Studios entrance.

Build Sandcastles

Did you know that Stormalong Bay features a shallow, sand bottom pool and beach area? Kids love digging in the sand and splashing around in this section of the pool.

Make S’mores

Visit the nightly campfire to roast marshmallows during your visit. You can even purchase S’mores Kits for a few dollars.

Rent a Boat

Spend time on Crescent Lake on your own private pontoon boat. Guests can rent boats from the marina near the Yacht Club.

Disney’s Yacht Club offers a large fitness center for guests to use during their stay. Ship Shape Health Club is even open 24 hours a day, so you can squeeze in a workout at any time.

Stroll along the Disney Boardwalk

The Disney Boardwalk is full of amazing activities and entertainment options and is just a short walk away from the Yacht Club.

Play Volleyball

As you walk along the boardwalk in front of the Beach Club, you’ll notice a sand volleyball court. This is a great spot to pick up a game with friends or family. You can also often join a game of volleyball at Stormalong Bay Pool.

Enjoy an Evening Movie

Each evening, Disney Yacht Club guests can watch a movie under the stars. These family friendly movies are a great way to unwind after a long day.

Play Mini Golf

Stroll over to Fantasia Gardens and Miniature Golf Course where you’ll find two 18-hole courses. This fun spot is located near the Dolphin and Swan Resorts.

Swim Some Laps

If you’re looking for a quieter poolside experience to swim laps or relax, check out the leisure pool at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. You’ll also have access to the quiet pools at Beach Club and Beach Club Villas.

If you’re not into running or jogging on vacation, you can spend time strolling along the jogging paths at the Yacht Club. You’ll find lots of great spots to take pictures and may even catch some surprises along the way.

Join a Kid Friendly Party at the Pool

Each afternoon, Stormalong Bay hosts fun poolside activities like hula hoop competitions and limbo.

Play Tennis

Guests can find tennis courts near the Yacht Club’s quiet pool.

Zoom Down Waterslides

Stormalong Bay features two separate water slides for guests to enjoy. The main waterslide stretches from the pirate ship and across the Beach Club boardwalk to the main pool.

You’ll also find a smaller slide that’s perfect for toddlers and small kids at the entrance to the main water slide.

Book a Fireworks Cruise

Take in the sights and sounds of the Epcot fireworks show from your pontoon boat on Crescent Lake.

Transportation

As mentioned above, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort sits in a prime location in the center of all the magic at WDW. If you’re planning to visit one of the theme parks, you’ll be happy to know that several of them are just a super short walk or ride away.

hotel lobby with seating areas

These are our preferred ways to get from Disney’s Yacht Club to other places in Walt Disney World:

  • To Magic Kingdom – You can access the Disney buses in front of the hotel. The ride to Magic Kingdom should take 15-20 minutes.
  • To Epcot – Exit the back of Yacht Club (toward Crescent Lake) and turn left. Epcot sits just under a ten minute walk away!
  • To Hollywood Studios – You have several options for getting to Hollywood Studios. We find the quickest option *usually* is walking. Hollywood Studios sits just a 15 minute walk away from the Yacht Club. You can also ride a Friendship Boat to Hollywood Studios. However, by the time you wait on the boat to make stops, this method can take longer than walking. You could also walk toward Epcot to catch the Disney Skyliner. With this method, you should be able to reach Hollywood Studios in around 25 minutes.
  • To Animal Kingdom – You can hop on one of the Disney buses to get to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. This is roughly a ten-minute ride.
  • To Disney’s Boardwalk – You can make the five-minute walk around Crescent Lake to easily reach the Disney Boardwalk. Guests can also take the Friendship Boat from the Yacht Club lighthouse and ride across the lake to the Boardwalk.
  • To Disney Springs – You can take a bus to Disney Springs, which typically takes 15-20 minutes.

Is Disney’s Yacht Club Worth It?

Since Disney’s Yacht Club may be my personal favorite resort in all of WDW , I would definitely say it’s worth the cost! I love the classy guest rooms and bathrooms with their nautical decor.

The lobby seems to be quieter and calmer than that at other resorts, and the cast members are super friendly and helpful. My family and I enjoy the food at all the restaurants on site, and we appreciate the ability to easily walk from the Yacht Club to the Beach Club’s dining options.

The close proximity to Epcot makes the Yacht Club an ideal place to stay since there’s no rush to get to the park in the morning or back “home” at the end of a long day. Plus, you enter and exit through the International Gateway entrance to Epcot (near World Showcase), so the lines to enter are basically nonexistent.

Additionally, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is just a short walk, boat ride, or Skyliner ride away. And if you feel like venturing out, you can take the scenic stroll around Crescent Lake to the Disney Boardwalk.

CLUBSWAN 125

swan yacht club pontoon

The architect

Juan kouyoumdijan.

The ClubSwan 125 is the new Juan Kouyoumdijan high performance superyacht commissioned for a passionate team consisting of the Owner, his friends and a professional crew. Her cutting-edge foil system is only one indication of pioneering design principles of Nautor’s Swan and ClubSwan’s desire to be the ultimate leader in performance and quality in this lightweight, racing supermaxi yacht.

Every design aspect has been managed with intense scrutiny, starting with the innovative single curved foil solution selected for optimum sideways lift in some conditions as well as vertical lift in faster conditions, which considerably reduces the drag of the hull and the loss of dynamic righting moment.
The complexity of construction of this yacht required Nautor to team up with the best designers, builders and suppliers in the world to supplement the existing team of Juan Kouyoumdjan and Nautor’s in-house experts. The team includes two main experts: Killian Bushe, involved in the construction of the hull and structural composite components, and Bob Wylie, for the deck and sailing handring, including specific performance-driven systems.

Harken’s carbon-top 1235 primary winches have been selected for the ClubSwan 125. These winches are developments of Harken’s 1135 grand prix winches that employ integral winch base and ring gear assemblies machined from a single block of stainless steel to extend load capacity from 9 to 11 tonnes. The two utility pit winches are Harken 990s, which have been proven over thousands of ocean miles and are currently serving in the Volvo Ocean 65 fleet.

The boat’s custom athwartship jib system utilizes Harken titanium TTR2 sheaves for maximum efficiency. The custom mainsheet system is a development of Harken MEGA CRX traveler cars utilizing Harken titanium TTR2 sheaves. All padeyes are in-deck soft-attach titanium loop padeyes. All in-deck sheaves will be titanium TTR2 as well. Harken TRR2 loop blocks and the new generation of Harken new high-load snatchblocks are specified for sheet leads above deck. Nautor’s Swan is breaking new ground with the ClubSwan 125 supermaxi yacht. North Sails’ combination of analytical tools and industry-leading 3Di sails make them the sailmaker of choice for this exciting new project.

The interiors represent a new generation of Swan interiors where evolution is a result of analysis and research, evaluating the existence of each component without compromising the functionality and comfort. This yacht interior, designed by Adriana Monk (MONK DESIGN), is a masterpiece of composite technology combining traditional Swan materials such as real wood veneers. The brief was to create an embracing environment below deck where you are protected from the harsh elements of water, wind and sun. Customers preferences play a large role in the selection of colours and general ambience.

The colour palette was intentionally selected to be dark and masculine complemented with light coloured fabrics and leathers. The general arrangement below went through many iterations before crystallizing into a clear layout where accommodation such as the Owner’s cabin and saloon are separated from the crew quarters and sail-handling areas. The arrangement is versatile as the full beam Owner’s cabin can be split into two guest cabins with en-suites by adding a centreline bulkhead. Racing-style crew with revealed structures and installations are located aft. Adjustable pipecots are placed outboard and the navigation station Is adjacent to the crew companionway. Another innovation is the positioning of the engine room, forward of the mast, isolating Owner and Guest cabins with a buffer zone from the noise and service paths.

Launch of green hydrogen pontoon: YCM paves way to sustainable yachting

Wednesday 21 st February 2024. In line with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and under the aegis of the collective ‘Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting’ approach, Yacht Club de Monaco continues to ramp up initiatives using technology to help protect the environment. Attended by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, the latest was launch of the first autonomous green hydrogen pontoon that can fill 30 cylinders and supply eight teams with green hydrogen in preparation for the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge (1-7 July 2024). “The Monaco Energy Boat Challenge was launched 11 years ago. It is very satisfying to see how far we have progressed. Even with limited resources it is now possible to produce green hydrogen,” says YCM General Secretary Bernard d’Alessandri.

As the aim is for Monaco to spearhead responsible yachting, YCM unveiled the pontoon attended by officials including Céline Caron-Dagioni, Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development; Patrice Cellario, Minister of the Interior; Armelle Roudaut-Lafon, Director Maritime Affairs; Olivier Wenden, Vice-President of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation; Marco Casiraghi, engineer and instigator of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge; and Francesco Prazzo, General Manager, SBM Offshore.

The pontoon also highlights YCM’s Corporate Social Responsibility policy that aims to realise the visions of a Sovereign who believes that “faced with the climate emergency, it is imperative that living proof of progress replaces all the promises”. On course for Monaco Energy Boat Challenge A loyal partner of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, SBM Offshore decided to make a landmark contribution for its sixth participation by installing this floating facility producing green hydrogen from renewable energy. Moored in the YCM Marina since January, the goal is to supply the eight teams in the Energy Class ahead of the meeting to help reduce the event’s carbon footprint and promote usage of eco-responsible energy resources. “An ever-increasing demand for safe, sustainable, affordable energy presents one of the biggest challenges of our time. As offshore pioneers, we are convinced the oceans hold the key to meet an urgent need for low-carbon solutions, with hydrogen being part of that response,” explains Francesco Prazzo.

Green hydrogen and Hi-Tech: yachting at an ecological turning point

This type of facility has been trialled at previous editions of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge and have undergone numerous improvements. Weighing 1.3 tonnes, this pontoon has a 20m2 surface area of floating solar panels linked to twice as many batteries to produce hydrogen continuously day and night. Cylinder fill-time is now 1 litre/minute. The pontoon also incorporates a remote control system to monitor electrolyser flow, battery charge, the heating and cooling system, as well as sensors, alarms and a dehumidifier. For the 11th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge 2024, teams will have a choice between 9 litre or 13 litre hydrogen cylinders. Each team is free to estimate its consumption according to its choice of power source with the right to produce energy during a race.

Recycling water solutions at YCM

At the same time, YCM is working hard to conserve resources by recycling water from its swimming pool using innovative technology developed by FGWRS. It’s the first time this system has been installed for a pool and it’s in Monaco, closely monitored by the Monegasque health authorities. Since June 2023, YCM members have been bathing in recycled water that is returned to the pool, particularly during the filter cleaning process, instead of using drinking water as was being done before. Over one million litres of water have already been treated in this way, equivalent to half an Olympic-size pool. Water from this state of the art FGWRS system is also used to clean boats and to water plants via a device called Aqua Sail in the form of recycled water cubes. These are being used by young sailors, Sailing School members, regatta competitors like the 400 sailor set to compete in the 40th Primo Cup (7-10 March 2024), Club members and YCM Marina staff and those using the private Touch & Go pontoon.

As a proactive player that leads by example with new technology on its own premises, all these actions are proof of the success of YCM’s environmental policy that aims to get everyone thinking about the impact their choices have on the environment. It’s an issue that will be at the heart of debates on Yachting Day organised by YCM on Thursday 21st March during Monaco Ocean Week. A packed programme will focus on exploration, the Explorer Awards in collaboration with the Explorer Club based in New York and the Monaco Smart Yacht Rendezvous.
