Disney’s Polynesian vs Yacht Club – Best Resort You’ll Love?

Disney's Polynesian vs Yacht Club

Disney’s Polynesian Village is located in Magic Kingdom, while the Yacht Club is located over at Epcot. Both have similarities, of course, but when you compare and contrast them, you begin to notice a few small, distinct differences.

So, in a battle between Disney’s Polynesian vs. Yacht Club, which resort comes out on top and why?  Which provides the best bang for your money?  Which resort provides a more immersive theming experience or has the best dining options?

Well, let’s find out now!

The Polynesian vs Yacht Club

Let’s begin by discussing the different room types for both the Polynesian and the Yacht Club.

Resort Type

Both of these resorts are considered to be “ Deluxe Resorts ” by Disney’s standards. In short, this means they are considered to be in the “best of the best” that Disney has to offer when it comes to things like amenities offered to guests.  However, this also means that they are some of the most expensive Disney resorts that Disney has to offer, as well.

As a deluxe guest, you will have access to early park hours, as well as extended park hours . This is one reason why some people will only stay at a deluxe resort. On top of that, the deluxe class of resorts are beautiful and offer great amenities and theming.

If you’ve narrowed your choices down to either Disney’s Polynesian Village or Disney’s Yacht Club, chances are you have yet to decide which theme park you want to have instant access too.

And that’s because, situated on Crescent Lake, Disney’s Yacht Club is within walking distance to Epcot. You’ll also have easy access to the Skyliner that will get you to Hollywood Studios .

This is a great mode of travel, and you will have quick access to both parks. It’s even possible to get some good exercise in and take a stroll over to Hollywood Studios. Though if you have small children, I wouldn’t recommend this.

However, for Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom , you will have to rely on the bus to get you there from the Yacht Club.

Over at the Polynesian, you are technically in the Magic Kingdom vicinity. There are three resorts that are considered to be “Magic Kingdom Resorts”: the Polynesian, the Contemporary , and the Grand Floridian .

All of these resorts have access to the monorail, which will take you directly to Magic Kingdom, or a bit further out to Epcot.

You could then take the Skyliner from Epcot to Hollywood Studios if you had Park Hopper tickets, though that could make for a really long day. You may want to consider the bus for that area of the property.

Both of these locations are fantastic, but it really comes down to what park you want to have quick access too. And maybe you’re just not quite sure yet, if you’ve never been to Disney World.

And for that, I will give a slight nod to the Polynesian, as you have the monorail transportation system to both Magic Kingdom and Epcot.

Dining Options

Let’s now move onto the dining options that both of these resorts offer.  Both the Yacht Club and the Polynesian have a little bit of everything, which is sure to please everyone in your party.  We will start with the Yacht Club. Since this resort is connected to the Beach Club , I will also include some of those options here.

For casual dining with an American seafood bias, Ale & Compass is a great choice for breakfast or dinner. The prices are on the lower side of most upscale dining options, so this is a good restaurant that offers a lot of value for money.

Next door at the Beach Club, we have the beloved Beaches & Cream . This is a staple for many families that visit Disney World. This is your classic American diner food option, like cheeseburgers and French fries. They also offer many milkshake and sundae options—which is where the “Cream” part of the name of course comes from.

Crews Cup Lounge is also a great place to cool off with a cocktail after a long day at the parks. This laid back bar lounge also serves up quick bites to eat with their tasty drinks, too.

The Yachtsman Steakhouse is one of the best Steakhouses on Walt Disney property. Le Cellier barely—and I mean barely —beats it out by my vote, but this steakhouse is fantastic signature dining. And it’s located right at the heart of the Yacht Club Resort. This is a must try if you are staying at the resort.

Now, let’s skip over to the Polynesian.

For the casual breakfast, lunch, and even dinner option, we have Captain Cooks . Here, you will discover a South-Seas inspired spread that is extremely tasty. They have many options for even the pickiest of eaters. This is an all around great restaurant, even if you’re not in a hurry.

Next we have a guest favorite— Pineapple Lanai . Here, they serve one thing. But they serve it extremely well—Dole Whip.  This Disney staple has been around for many years, of course, and no one does it better than the Pineapple Lanai. The classic flavors mixed with seasonal options, will leave your dole whip cravings satisfied!

Next is one of my personal favorite bar options on Disney property: Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto . This is a mystical, volcano themed bar. The atmosphere is incredible, and you will be hard pressed to gain entrance if you don’t show up and claim a spot at opening.

The magical cocktails made here are unlike anything you can get anywhere else. This is a must do if you end up staying at the Polynesian.

And last but certainly not least, we have our signature dining option— O’hana . I feel a bit like a broken record here, but O’hana is in my itinerary for every single Disney trip I’ve taken—or will take. The price is a bit high, but the food is incredible . The options are a lot like the other restaurants here at the Polynesian, with a south seas inspired course.

Oh, and the butter noodles may be my favorite thing ever . And that bread pudding?  Look, don’t get me going. You just have to try it for yourself!

I’m going to be blunt here and hold nothing back—the Yacht Club (and Beach Club) have the best pool in my opinion—on all of Disney Property.

Stormalong Bay is a 3 acre beachside pool area is just immense and utterly fantastic.  It doesn’t get a whole lot more beautiful, and relaxing, than Stormalong Bay.

On top of that, there is also a lazy river here that allows you float around this entire 3 acre region.  This is where you can really chill, grab your favorite cold drink, and really let your guard down.

Though the Yacht Club may seem like the clear winner here, the Polynesian is no slouch by any means. In fact, there are two pools located on the Village property.

The first is the Lava Pool , which is famous for its towering volcano with 142 foot long waterslide. This pool is shaped similar to a beach style, with easy access and graceful angles, making it great for smaller children to enjoy the fun.

A nearby lounge is also close by to grab a quick cocktail while you catch some rays.

Now the Oasis pool is a bit more subdued and quiet. It rests in the middle of a lush garden that offers a bit of an escape from the Disney hustle and bustle.  Here, you will be able to catch up on your latest novel, or just enjoy some peace and quiet. This is a great option if you are looking for a brief escape.

With all of this said, I’m still going to have to choose the pool area over at the Yacht Club by a slight margin.

Per the usual, the price points are ever changing and fluctuate a bit throughout the year.  One trend I have noticed, though, is the Polynesian is going to cost you a bit more per night compared to the Yacht Club—no matter the season.

If price is one of your main concerns, the Yacht Club may be the better option here.

Yacht Club has a relatively newly designed and revamped room. Though some people complain that it reminds them of a tiny boat cabin (which is, well, probably Disney’s intention , at least to some degree) they are still spacious enough that you won’t feel packed in like clowns inside of a tiny clown car.

As for the Polynesian, well, it also has newly renovated rooms.

In earlier days, the Polynesian was themed after the beloved Disney movie Lilo & Stitch. The new revamped rooms now offer the newer Hawaiian Disney film characteristics from the film Moana . Though the theming is a bit subtle, it is noticeable. The rooms are spacious and offer all the amenities you would need during your vacation.

Since both resorts have been recently upgraded and renovated, I’m going to call this a tie . But I do prefer the Polynesian rooms, but by the absolute smallest of margins.

Conclusion: What’s the Best Disney Resort?

I hope this article has helped you navigate the similarities and differences of these two fantastic Disney Resorts.

Overall, when I have to pick between Disney’s Polynesian vs. Yacht Club, my ultimate decision is Disneys Polynesian Village.

The overall atmosphere, proximity to Magic Kingdom, and the magical O’hana has landed me here time and time again. This does’t mean the Yacht Club can’t be perfect for you and your family. It is an awesome resort in its own right, and I will definitely return there in the future.

But for now, my money is going to the Polynesian.

My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon and need a plan B. We're hoping to stay at GF, but the budget may not work out, so we're trying to pick a plan B resort. I think we've narrowed it down to Yacht Club or Poly, but are open to other options. We just stayed at AKL this January, so would rather not stay there again (although we loved it!). We'll be spending one day at each park, but have hoppers so may do two parks a day. My favorite park is MK, fiance's is Epcot. We're usually rope drop to close people, but we're going in August so might do mid-day breaks just out of necessity. We don't have any resort-only days besides the arrival day, so I think just the overall feel of the resort is more important than specific amenities (restaurants, pools, etc). We're doing the second part of our honeymoon in the Bahamas, so not sure if Poly would be too much of the tropical theme. Which would you choose?

Yacht Ckub! Walk to Epcot (and DHS), spend those hot muggy afternoons at Stormalong Bay!

Poly and YC are in my top 3 favorite resorts (Poly is my fav), but they are very different. Given everything you describe, I vote YC. It has a ‘slightly’ more upscale/adult vibe fitting for a honeymoon (in my opinion) and will be a nice contrast to the Bahamas portion of your trip. Leave Poly for a future/non-Honeymoon trip, if your future travel plans involve Disney. Of course you can’t make a wrong decision here, just my first reaction when reading your post. Early congratulations to you.

Yacht Club and Poly are my two favorites, you really can't go wrong with either.

These are two of my favorite resorts at Disney (although I prefer BC to YC personally). My vote would be the Polynesian hands down. While being able to walk to World Showcase is certainly nice, you just cant beat being on the monorail line imho. Having both MK and Epcot available via monorail is just so convenient and is such a classic Disney thing. For me it's hard to describe or put a monetary value on. Priceless! We did a split stay between Poly and BC a couple of years ago and that was a nice experience as well.

The Poly and YC are our two favorite resorts. As much as I love the Poly, I’d stay at the YC. The rooms are absolutely gorgeous and the quick walk to Epcot cannot be beat. We love strolling into Epcot in the evening for dinner and drinks. Like a PP mentioned, I think the YC also has a more adult/upscale feel to it. Plus, I think you’ll find it quieter than the Poly. SAB isn’t too shabby either. Enjoy!

The Polynesian is probably my favorite resort of all that we’ve stayed at. That said, for an adults only trip - my vote would be YC hands down. The ability to walk to EPCOT (and HS if you feel so inclined) is great, it’s nice to be so close to the Boardwalk at night, and since you have hoppers you can easily hop the monorail to MK. Congratulations and enjoy your honeymoon wherever you choose!

Yacht Club hands down. Was very disappointed in Poly in Dec 2018. Yacht Club is awesome, that time of year you will love the pool if you decide to go back to the room. more mature vibe too. easy walk to JellyRolls for the piano bar, which is fun, as is Fantasia Minigolf

Love both, but the convenience of Epcot especially in August is invaluable! Enjoy, congrats in advance!

Poly won't be much less expensive than the GF. However, I would choose the Poly over Yacht Club. Poly is obviously super convenient for Magic Kingdom, but also convenient to Epcot with the monorail. None of the Epcot resorts are convenient to the MK since they share buses.

Stayed at Yacht Club last week and Polynesian earlier this year. Both times it was just my husband and I. I really liked the "Magical" feel of the Polynesian, but we had several rude experiences there with cast members..more than I have ever had at any other Disney hotel. It was also always really busy and crowded. Yacht Club was great for the walking convenience to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. The service was better and the room was nice. At one of the busiest times of the year, it had such a quiet and relaxing lobby. We loved coming back to the calmness at night. Lastly, the bus stopped at Yacht Club first which was always nice. We never waited long for one to arrive. The Yacht Club would get my vote for a honeymoon stay between the two.

The YC/BC will share, but there are sister resorts and the same as the Swan/Dolphin. The Boardwalk has it's own bus to both MK and AK. Personally, when I have stayed at MK resorts, I don't think the location is the greatest because you have to share buses to DHS and AK. Overall, I think the Epcot resorts are the best location for all parks and you can walk to 2 parks. Click to expand...

Disney’s Polynesian Resort (Honest Review)

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Prior to staying at this deluxe Disney hotel, my family and I placed the Polynesian Resort at the top of our bucket list for places to stay at WDW. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort seemed to have it all – Hawaiian theming, an elaborate pool, and a premium location near Magic Kingdom.

Since we have two young kids, the Polynesian’s easy access to the monorail and ferry boats scored even more bonus points. Out of all the Disney resorts, the Polynesian Resort always seemed the most appealing. We couldn’t wait to stay there and were so excited when we finally got the opportunity to try it out!

So, did we think the Disney Polynesian resort was worth it? Continue reading below to find out! In this post, I will review the Polynesian Resort at Walt Disney World. The pictures you see and opinions you read in this article are based on my family’s most recent stay at this hotel. I will wrap up the review with our HONEST thoughts on whether or not we found Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to be worth the expensive price tag!

(This post may contain affiliate links. If you make a purchase through one of these links, I may receive a small compensation at no extra cost to you. Please see my disclosure policy at the bottom of this page for more details.)

Rooms at the Disney World Polynesian Resort

Since I went into an in-depth review of the rooms at Disney’s Polynesian Resort in a separate post, I won’t spend a ton of time discussing it below. In short, it’s important to know that TWO different hotels are located at the Polynesian. One of these is the Polynesian Village Resort and the other is the Polynesian Villas and Bungalows, which are part of the Disney Vacation Club villas.

Oasis Pool and daybed with text overlay Review of Disney's Polynesian Pros and Cons

Even though the property consists of two separate resorts, both the hotel and the villas share amenities and restaurants. Therefore, you don’t really notice that there are two separate resorts on property while staying at the Polynesian.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is classified as one of the deluxe Disney resort hotels at WDW. This resort offers several different types of guest rooms for visitors that range from standard rooms to suites.

  • Regular Hotel Rooms – The regular hotel rooms at the Polynesian Village Resort offer either two queen beds or one king bed. Some of these rooms also include a day bed, which can allow for up to 5 guests in the room. When staying in a regular hotel room, you have several different options for room views: Garden View / Oasis Pool, Standard View / Parking Lot, Disney Theme Park View of Magic Kingdom Park, Marina View / Lava Pool, and Lagoon View. These regular hotel rooms have recently been renovated with Moana themed design.

  • Suites – The Polynesian Village Resort now offers suites for guests to reserve, including the 1 Bedroom Suite, Ambassador Vice Presidential Suite, and King Kamehameha Suite. These suites offer views of the marina, gardens, or Cinderella’s Castle. Depending on the suite you choose to reserve, your room can sleep between 5-8 guests.
  • Club Level Rooms – The Club Level rooms at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort provide views of the marine, theme park, or lagoon. These rooms include Disney’s Club Level Service, which allows you to access a private lounge for snacks and drinks among other special amenities.

Disney’s Polynesian Villas and Bungalows

The second resort on property is Disney’s Polynesian Villas and Bungalows. Disney classifies this property as deluxe VILLAS rather than as a deluxe hotel. The Polynesian Villas and Bungalows offers two different styles of rooms.

bungalows at Disney's Polynesian Resort at Walt Disney World

  • Deluxe Studio – You can reserve a deluxe studio with either a standard view or a lake view of Seven Seas Lagoon. These rooms sleep up to 5 adults and include a queen bed, queen pull-out, and a daybed. The deluxe studios include two bathrooms, a small refrigerator, and a microwave.
  • Bora Bora Bungalows – The bungalows at Disney’s Polynesian Villas and Bungalows are super popular. If you have looked up pictures of the Polynesian, you have probably seen lots of photos of these over water bungalows. These two bedroom bungalows each feature a kitchen, a deck with private pool, and sleeping for up to 8 adults.

Disney Polynesian Villas and Bungalows Rates

If you are considering booking a room at Disney’s Polynesian Resort, you have probably checked out the prices. I’m sure you quickly realized that the Polynesian is one of the most expensive resort hotels in all of the Walt Disney World resort area. You will notice that the cost of a room is rarely under $650 per night.

Dave's DVC Points Rental

Even though the prices for rooms at the Polynesian tend to be on the high side, there are ways to work around the costs to make them more budget friendly. My family and I like to rent timeshare points from owners in the Disney Vacation Club. We use David’s Vacation Club Rentals to rent these points for cheaper rates on a stay at a deluxe hotel at Disney World.

David’s website is the best DVC rental site available as they make it super easy to price out your trip using their cost calculator. You can save hundreds of dollars on your trip by renting points from this trustworthy company! If you read my Polynesian room review , you know that during my family’s stay at the Walt Disney World Polynesian Villas and Bungalows, we snagged a room with a view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks for the price of a standard view!

We were able to listen to the Electrical Water Pageant show as well – right from our balcony! These were definite perks to staying at the Polynesian resort! Speaking of magical perks, if you are planning your first trip to Walt Disney World, you may be wondering:

Why is the Polynesian so expensive?

Disney’s Polynesian Resort sits in a prime spot near the Magic Kingdom resort area. The high cost of your room reflects the convenience of this ideal location. Disney’s Polynesian Resort provides super easy access to Magic Kingdom. You can easily walk, ride a ferry boat, or take the monorail right at the resort to arrive at Magic Kingdom within just a few minutes.

Ferry to Magic Kingdom from Transportation and Ticket Center

You can also travel to Epcot quickly via the monorail access at the Transportation and Ticket Center, which is a super short walk from the Polynesian. Not only does the Disney Polynesian Resort provide simple access to two major theme parks, but it also allows guests to travel between other hotels.

Once on the monorail, you can stop at Disney’s Contemporary Resort or Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort. This means it’s fairly easy to enjoy dining options at multiple hotels during your trip. Disney Polynesian Restaurants

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort offers several different dining venues that follow the hotel theme of the spirit of the South Pacific. In addition to bars like Tambu Lounge, some of the restaurants you will find on property include:

Captain Cook

outdoor seating at Capt. Cook's at Disney' Polynesian

Capt. Cook’s is the quick service restaurant located at the Polynesian Resort. This dining venue offers food and beverage options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The convenient location near the Marina and Lava Pool provides both indoor and outdoor seating.

Trader Sam’s

Trader Sam's Tiki Terrace

Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto and Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace are also located near the Marina and Lava Pool. This dining option provides bar service and a selection of food items. You can often find live music at Trader Sam’s too!

O’Hana is a table service restaurant at Disney’s Polynesian Resort. It offers a character breakfast and a Polynesian themed dinner. The noodles at O’Hana are world famous and a must have if you are dining here!

Kona Café serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the Polynesian Resort. The food offered here includes sushi and other Asian style options.

Kona Island

Kona Island offers a small selection of foods and beverages for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This includes grab and go sushi and desserts.

Barefoot Pool Bar at the Lava Pool

The Polynesian Resort at Walt Disney World features a pool bar at each of its swimming pools. Barefoot Pool Bar is located at the Lava Pool while Oasis Pool Bar sits near the Oasis Pool. Both of these dining venues offer food and drinks, so you don’t have to leave the swimming area at meal or snack times.

Pineapple Lanai

If you’re looking for a refreshing snack while visiting the Polynesian, you can head over to Pineapple Lanai for Dole Whips. These frozen treats are super popular and a great snack option on a hot day!

Pools at the Polynesian Resort

With its sandy beaches and entertainment schedule, you can find all sorts of fun things to do at the Polynesian Resort . One of the most appealing activities, especially for families with kids, is the elaborate swimming pools at the resort. Disney’s Polynesian resort provides two separate pool areas for families to enjoy.

Oasis Pool at Disney's Polynesian

The Oasis Pool is often referred to as the quiet pool since it tends to be less crowded. While this pool doesn’t offer fancy water slides like the main pool does, the Oasis Pool provides plenty of space for swimming. It also features a zero-entry zone with small splash fountains that are perfect for babies and toddlers .

lava pool at polynesian resort disney world

The Lava Pool is the main pool at the Polynesian. It provides a large water slide and plenty of swimming space for families. Like the Oasis Pool, the Lava Pool offers a zero-entry zone. Toddlers and babies can enjoy the splash pad area next to the Lava Pool as it has multiple SMALL water slides and fountains for little ones. Even if your toddler isn’t quite interested in the slides yet, they will love splashing around in the shallow water here.

Is Disney Polynesian Resort Worth it?

I began this review by explaining that the Polynesian Resort has always been my dream place to stay at Walt Disney World. So, did it measure up to my expectations? Is the Disney Polynesian Resort worth it? The short answer is – sadly no, it did not .

While we absolutely loved the location of the resort since it provided easy access to Magic Kingdom, I don’t think we would choose to stay there again. The Polynesian Resort didn’t really have a deluxe feel for us, and that was difficult to overlook with the hefty cost of staying there.

You can tell that the longhouses that hold the hotel rooms and suites were built quite a while ago. The hallways are really narrow, and the elevators are TINY. Although these cons aren’t necessarily deal breakers, the small spaces and dark decor made the resort feel dated and dreary.

I guess this shouldn’t feel all that surprising since the Polynesian Resort is one of Walt Disney World’s original hotels. But, the resort didn’t feel bright and magical like I had imagined. Note that we have stayed at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, which is also quite dark.

The difference is that the Animal Kingdom Lodge provides much larger hallways, elevators, and community areas with more natural lighting. The layout of the Polynesian was probably our biggest complaint. It is laid out much like a moderate hotel at Disney World. In other words, the main lobby (known as the Great Ceremonial House) may not be near your room.

splash pad at polynesian resort

This main building holds common areas like the gift shop and quick service restaurant, but the hotel rooms are spread out in separate buildings throughout the property. If you are in your hotel room and need to get food, grab something from the gift shop, or visit guest services, you have to walk across the property to the building where they are located.

This is especially unpleasant when it is raining at Disney World. The hike isn’t a big deal if you are staying at a moderate resort since you know you are saving money. We love Disney’s Port Orleans hotels, which have a similar property layout. However, the Port Orleans Resorts don’t cost $650 a night. For that high price, you kind of expect a deluxe feeling.

Needless to say, we were relieved we had booked this stay through David’s Vacation Club Rentals rather than paying the full price listed on the Disney website because we just didn’t think the Polynesian Resort was worth the high price.

Final Review of Disney’s Polynesian Resort

Overall, we were really happy that we had booked a split stay during this Disney trip. (A split stay is where you stay at one resort for part of your trip, and then you move to a different hotel.) After spending a few nights at the Polynesian, we moved to our FAVORITE resort area at Walt Disney World: Disney’s Beach Club and Yacht Club Resorts .

Even though we gave up the convenient access to Magic Kingdom and the beautiful views of the Cinderella Castle, we felt much more at home at Disney’s Beach Club. Hello. We have always wanted to love the Poly as we love the theming, the location, the pool and the gift shop offerings. However, we have NEVER had a good experience with the service there, except for one cast member at the bar and one cast member at the gift shop. Everyone else (from the front desk woman who checked us in and barely acknowledged our children, didn’t smile, and didn’t seem to care about us at all) has seemed like they just didn’t care that much about us as guests, and some have even been rude. We once asked just for a glance into Trader Sams and they were not willing to let us even peek inside. I understand that there was a line, but not even to let us look inside? That seemed unnecessary and rude, and far away from what Walt Disney would have wanted, imho. Also, when we stayed there with two small children, there was a babysitting service that we hired, and the babysitter was downright rude. She told us that we stayed too far out (not our choice, it was where our room was assigned to us), and she hated walking there. She also was supposed to bring games and toys for our children to play with, and said “Oh, I didn’t do that”. We ended up feeling very uncomfortable with her, so we left our dinner early and went back to our children. She also lost our son’s shoe and didn’t seem to care at all about it. We would love to stay there if we felt the service could be improved, but we have no plans to ever stay there again based on all of our bad experiences. It’s sad because we LOVE the theming, although one of the best features (the fountain when you walk in) is gone. For reference, our best service ever was at the Grand Floridian, and although it’s costly, if you book it at the right time when there are good discounts, we found it totally worth it. The service there outshined other high end resorts we’ve stayed at outside of Disney. We are next staying at The Wilderness Lodge at Boardwalk Inn, both at discounted prices this summer. I’m hoping they can match the Grand Floridian in terms of service. I’m also hoping that the Poly will one day match their service to their high quality theming and location, and that they will make Trader Sams more accessible to everyone. I truly hope this helps anyone planning to stay there!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a thorough review!! I’m sure so many readers will find your information super helpful, especially when comparing the different resorts you mentioned. I really appreciate you sharing your insight! 🙂

We stayed at the Polynesian the week of April 10, 2023. We were in Pago Pago (DVC) on the ground floor (which we requested). The room was definitely smaller than expected and a bit dated – we were hoping for the new Moana decor shown on the website – but we weren’t in the room that much. We still have no regrets, the convenience of the monorail alone was worth the extra costs for our party, which was my husband (67) and me (65), daughter, and two grandchildren (almost 3 and 6). We were able to get back to the resort easily in the afternoon to enjoy the pool (we loved the small pool with a toddler slide, the bigger one was also perfect for older grandson. Loved not having to fold the sit and stand stroller like you do on the bus – allowed the little one to catch a short nap. The large bathroom with a tub was perfect for the kids while the adults used the other with shower and sink. This was the last trip to Disney for my husband and me and it was definitely a splurge. I have bad knees and wanted to save my walking for the actual parks, so this was the best option for us. The only negative was the “patio” with two chairs, it was mostly dirt and bad landscaping with a view of the parking lot, but it was an easy walk from the opposite end of the building to the monorail transportation center going to Epcot. If you can swing it – and are only going to MK and Epcot – it’s perfect. We did take a bus to Disney Springs to eat at T-Rex and that was also very easy. Since it was all paid for in advance the only real expense while we were there were the character meals – which we loved. The housekeeping was outstanding every day. Oh and watching the fireworks over the castle from the beach was awesome! This was by far our best trip to WDW. I will cherish these memories forever.

Hi Dee Dee,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share this thorough review of the Polynesian Resort! I’m so happy to hear that you and your family had such an amazing trip. You really can’t beat the close proximity to Magic Kingdom and monorail. And the fireworks are icing on the cake!

Thanks for reading this post on the Polynesian Resort. Like you, I tend to refer to the sleeping arrangement in the regular hotel rooms as a convertible (or pullout) couch. However, the official Disney World website uses the term “day bed” when referencing these sleeping areas. You are correct in stating that the day bed photo is from the DVC side, which is why I captioned the picture the way I did. Hope this clears up any confusion! Thanks so much for reaching out!

A Guide to Disney World Resorts

compare disney world resorts

With so many choices, we thought it would be helpful to do a comparison of Disney World resorts. Hopefully, this Disney resort guide will help you choose the best in-park hotel for your family vacation.

To start with, Disney classifies its resorts into three basic categories—Value, Moderate, and Deluxe.

There are also a number of Disney Vacation Club Villas and even campsites.

Disney World’s resort hotels are found in five specific regions of the park – the Magic Kingdom Resort Area, the Epcot Resort Area, the Animal Kingdom Resort Area, the Wide World of Sports Resort Area, or the Disney Springs Resort area.

All of Disney’s Deluxe resorts have earned a AAA Four-Diamond rating, but the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is considered by Disney as their highest-tier, luxury flagship resort.

As you may have guessed, Disney’s Value Resorts are geared towards families on a budget and offer fun and fully-adequate in-park accommodations.

Disney’s Moderate Resorts fall somewhere between Value and Deluxe in terms of cost, room size, transportation options, and other amenities.

With that background information out of the way, then let’s now review the hotel properties in greater detail with this Disney World Resort Comparison guide.

Are you considering staying in a Club Level room during your Disney World vacation? Or perhaps you’d just like to learn a little more about this concierge option available at select Disney World Resort hotels ?

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Well, there may be more factors to consider than you realize to choose the Club Level that’s right for you. (And if you’re curious to learn whether Club Level itself is a good choice for your group to begin with, we dive into that topic here .) Today we’re chatting about which Resort has the BEST Club Level in Disney World. Are you ready?

We are, too! But first things first: let’s give a brief overview of Club Levels at Disney World hotels. Club Level (also called Concierge Club Level) is a room category that offers special perks and accommodations . For instance, Club Level guests have access to an exclusive lounge that offers light meals like continental breakfast, snacks throughout the day, and even evening desserts and cocktail hours. (Cheers!)

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Additionally, Club Level guests receive special planning help prior to their visit through Disney Signature Services, as well as a separate dedicated Concierge Desk onsite to help during their stay. Concierge Cast Members are typically available from 7AM to 10PM each day (as well as the time leading up to your vacation). Cast Members can assist with park tickets, advance dining reservations, and many more recommendations that can help throughout your vacation.

So, those are the basics! Now let’s explore WHICH Resort Club Level option is the BEST… or simply the best for YOU! Let’s start by going down the list of options, and then we’ll cover a few factors to consider in your decision.

Disney World Resort Hotels with Club Levels

Atrium club level in disney’s contemporary resort (deluxe resort).

Disney’s Contemporary Resort is mere steps away from Magic Kingdom , and is one of three hotels on the Monorail Loop. The vibe is bright and modern, while guests will also enjoy classic Disney touches including a mural by legendary Disney artist Mary Blair, and recently refurbished guest rooms themed to The Incredibles .

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

The Contemporary offers Club Level Rooms on the 12th and 14th Floor of the Resort’s Tower, with the 14th floor housing Suites. The 12th floor Atrium Club Concierge and the 14th floor Tower Club Concierge offer the same guest services and food items.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Readers have provided reviews of the Contemporary Club Level which you can read here , but we’re shining a spotlight on a few quotes below:

“Because we were staying Club Level, we were able to walk down and watch the fireworks on the balcony at night and man were the views spectacular! Eating breakfast on the club level balcony while watching the ferry and monorail come and go, as well as admire Cinderella Castle can’t be beat. T he food provided was delicious and my family and I especially enjoyed the desserts provided during the fireworks.”

“The staff could not have been more wonderful and attentive… The snacks were not as nice as at some of the other club levels where we have stayed, but they were adequate.”

Kilimanjaro Club Level in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge (Deluxe Resort)

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is nearest to Disney’s Animal Kingdom park . The most unique thing about this remarkable Resort is that there are over 200 animals that LIVE on the Savannas of the Lodge!

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

The Kilimanjaro Club Level is on the 6th floor of the Resort’s Jambo House, and while it is spacious and lovely, the Lounge itself does not offer a view of the Savanna (where the animals can be seen).

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

If you have dined at Boma or Jiko — The Cooking Place , you may be thrilled to know that the Lounge offers many bites like those you’d enjoy at those restaurants! A selection of South African wines is also available to try.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

You can find reviews from AllEars readers for the Kilimanjaro Club Level Lounge here , and we’ve provided a few quotes below:

“It takes a bit of a walk to get to the top floor for refreshments and free food, even if you are close to the elevators on the lower levels.”

“The food offerings, except breakfast, shouldn’t be viewed as meal replacements but for a very light eater you can eat enough to not want a lunch or heavy dinner. The offerings in the evening tie into the theme of the resort and are a great way to try something you might not otherwise eat.”

“There were hot options at breakfast and cocktail hour. The staff were very helpful with providing food for our daughter with a food allergy. Everyone was very helpful in the lounge. I do wish the club level rooms were closer to the club area.”

King Kamehameha Club Level in Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort (Deluxe Resort)

The “Spirit of ALOHA” awaits at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort ! This South Island-inspired Resort is on the Magic Kingdom Monorail Loop and sits on the shores of Seven Seas Lagoon.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

The Club level rooms at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort are located in the Hawaii and Tonga buildings, and the private lounge is on the second floor of the Hawaii building.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

A HUGE bonus to the lounge is that it offers fantastic views of Cinderella Castle and the Magic Kingdom fireworks (and the music for the fireworks is played on speakers inside the lounge during the show).

Here’s some of what AllEars readers had to share in their reviews of the Polynesian’s Club Level :

“Lots of different kinds of food at each meal time and the alcoholic beverages were plentiful! I recommend the punch!! We had breakfast each day and enjoyed at least one other treat time or drink time each day. We were able to take back to our room or eat in the very nice lounge.”

“Since they built the bungalows on the beach, the views from Hawaii bldg rooms have been severely impacted, such that now only the third floor rooms have a true theme park view…. during the Magic Kingdom fireworks, the CM’s make it extra magical for all in the lounge by turning down the lights in the room and piping in the music, so we can watch AND hear the show…and it’s wonderful.”

“The concierge was always helpful, whether I needed something picked up from a park or printing out my boarding passes. Food in the club was plentiful and always tasty.”

Old Faithful Club Level in Disney’s Wilderness Lodge (Deluxe Resort)

The beauty of the Pacific Northwest and the legacy of great National Parks is celebrated at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge ! Though Wilderness Lodge is not a stop along the Monorail Loop, this Resort offers easy (and fun!) access to the Magic Kingdom by boat.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

The Concierge rooms (all located on the seventh floor, along with the Club Level Lounge) offer a privacy balcony and the view will be either woods or courtyard.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Here are a few quotes from AllEars reader reviews :

“ The cast members at the club level are all top notch. Super helpful with answering any questions. Breakfast every day was great. Each day was a little different but there were always staples. The croissants were particularly great!”

“The lounge was welcoming with a stunning view of the lobby. The staff were extremely helpful and every time you passed a CM in the hallway, they smiled and said hello. We felt completely at home and very welcome indeed… The food was lovely, always plenty available with a fridge full of chilled drinks available too… The WL CL really know how to treat their guests, and it shows.”

Royal Palm Club Level in Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort (Deluxe Resort)

Disney’s Grand Floridian is Disney World’s flagship Resort! Presenting a turn-of-the-century Victorian theme, the Grand Floridian is on the Monorail Loop… and the very next stop is the Magic Kingdom .

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

All of the Club Level room (and about half of the suites) are located on the third, fourth, and fifth floors of the main building. The Lounge is located on the fourth floor. Unless you are staying in one of the Club Level rooms, you cannot get to the third, fourth, or fifth floors of the main building. Access is by private elevator only. (The Sugar Loaf building also offers full club-level service.)

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

AllEars readers had the following to share in our collection of reviews for Club Level at the Grand Floridian :

“We loved the club level perk of the food and beverages. The staff was not as friendly as I was expecting, and the eating area was always crowded.”

“After many stays at The Boardwalk in Concierge level and the Wilderness Lodge Concierge level I expected a lot more from Grand Floridian.”

“The private lounge was beautiful and the food and drinks plentiful.”

Stone Harbor Club Level in Disney’s Beach Club Resort (Deluxe Resort)

Disney’s Beach Club is styled after the New England seaside at the turn of the century and the seashore theme is evident throughout this bright and airy Resort, which also boasts a pool complex that’s like its own mini water park! The Beach Club connects directly to its sister Resort, the Yacht Club. It’s also within walking distance to EPCOT !

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Club Level room options are diverse, ranging from standard, garden, and water view rooms to the Newport Presidential Suite (and also including 1- and 2-bedroom suites.)

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Allears readers have shared the following within this collection of Club Level reviews of Beach Club :

“It was awesome from beginning to end. The staff were outstanding and got to know us so much so when we came in from the parks, be it mid afternoon or evening, they brought us our favorite alcoholic beverages and kept bringing more. The evening offerings were enough to fill us up so we didn’t need to buy dinner.”

“the best part was the staff. Awesome helpful people. The food was always warm and restocked, staff members were constantly inquiring about how the food was and if you needed anything. They were also happy to chat and provide tips, or little known facts, or suggestions.”

Regatta Club Level in Disney’s Yacht Club Resort

Where the Beach Club celebrates life along the shore, its sister Resort, Disney’s Yacht Club , is a tribute to life ON the sea with its more nautical theming. As it connects directly to the Beach Club, the Yacht Club likewise boasts a walking path directly to EPCOT as well as easy access to the Disney Skyliner .

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

All Club Level rooms are located on the Yacht Club’s 5th floor.

Readers have several great things to say about the Regatta Club Level in our collection of reviews :

“We definitely took advantage of the breakfast more than any of the other options since we were at the parks most of the day. On one of the late afternoons we did stop back in and were able to try out the hors d’oeuvres consisting of crudites, various cheeses, sliced roast beef and turkey with dinner rolls, chicken fingers, mac and cheese, smoked salmon and a few others I don’t recall. You easily could have made a dinner out of what was there. Another night we came back in time to enjoy the desserts which included 2 to 3 assorted mini cupcakes, mini tarts, rice crispy treats, ice cream, fresh fruit, and cookies. Good thing we were doing a lot of walking on this trip! Overall, the lounge was busy but not overcrowded.”

“This stay really lead me and my husband to decided to continue staying club level going forward… Club Level was definitely worth it.”

Innkeeper’s Club Level in Disney’s Boardwalk Inn

We have one more option for you within walking distance to EPCOT : Disney’s BoardWalk Inn . The turn-of-the-century Coney Island-inspired BoardWalk offers Club Level guests access to the Innkeeper’s Club.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Club Level guests may choose from standard rooms or water or garden views, or opt for a 2-Bedroom Suite.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Take a peek at the following quotes from AllEars reader reviews of the Innkeeper’s Cub Level at the BoardWalk .

“As for the Innkeeper’s Lounge, the Continental Breakfast had a number of good offerings. The afternoon snacks were good. The dinner time appetizers and other offerings were a big disappointment… The seating in the Lounge was usually insufficient, which is another disappointment when spending so much money for club level.”

“It’s by no means cheap but replaces mini expensive restaurant meals. Fantastic [cast members]. Overall a terrific experience!”

Chronos Club Level in Gran Destino Tower at Coronado Springs Resort (Moderate Resort)

Do you see how “One of these things is not like the other?” (Sing along if you remember that one 😉 ). Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort is the single Moderate Resort on the list of Resorts with a Club Level option.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Club Level options for Coronado Springs Resort arrived with the addition of Gran Destino Tower in 2019. In fact, Club Level access is exclusive to rooms in the Tower, which include Standard View rooms, Deluxe-, 1-Bedroom- and Presidential Suites.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

You can take a photo tour of the stunning Gran Destino Tower here ; and it’s good to know that the nearest park to Coronado Springs is Animal Kingdom (and, therefore, a bit of a bus trek to the other parks).

Factors to Consider

Theme and style.

When it comes to choosing a Club Level, choosing your preferred theme or style is much like that of choosing your Resort! So, this one all boils down to preference.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Do you love the idea of the casual feel of the Beach Club? Does the idea of seeing animals on the daily at Animal Kingdom Lodge pique your interest?

Then simply follow where your instincts lead! If you are looking more into logistics, we have more factors to consider…

Proximity to Parks

If you know you’ll be spending a lot of your time in EPCOT, the Beach Club, Yacht Club, or BoardWalk Inn would be your best bets.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

If you’re planning to tackle ALL. THE. RIDES. in Magic Kingdom, a Resort on the Monorail Loop might be best for you. We’ve mentioned closest park proximity in all of the individual Resort sections above to help you consider your options.

Ratings from Readers

You may feel a little more confident in your decision by checking out what others have to say about their experience.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

With the exception of the newest Club Level option (at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort), you can click on any of the review links above to check out full reviews from fellow AllEars readers to find out their thoughts and experiences regarding the individual Resort Club Levels.

Be sure to consider if a specific view from your room is of importance to you.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Because Club Level Rooms are relegated to certain areas of the Resorts, you may want to factor that into your decision.

Ah, yes… ’tis a splurge to enjoy Club Level access. As we mentioned in a previous post , the price of staying Club Level ranges from an additional $100 a night to $275 a night depending on the resort. A good rule of thumb is that the more expensive the hotel and room category, the greater the added cost.

Specific pricing can be found on the Disney World website, in exactly the same way you would search for any room in a Disney World Resort hotel. (In fact, when perusing “Room Rates” on the Disney World website, Club Level rooms are clearly marked in the search, so you can conduct an easy cost comparison between both regular rooms and other Club Level options at various Resort hotels.

We hope this chat has helped in your Disney World vacation planning! And if you’ve ever experienced Club Level at Disney World, we’d love to hear about it with a comment!

Polynesian Village vs. Beach Club Disney World Resort Guide 2023

By Lisa Gilmore Leave a Comment

So, you’re planning a trip to Disney World, and you’ve narrowed it down between two of the most ICONIC Disney resorts in existence (you lucky, lucky person!).

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Beach Club Resort

But how do you choose between Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Disney’s Beach Club Resorts ? Well, let’s dive into the deets to see which one is right for you!

Choosing between the Polynesian Village and the Beach Club, is like choosing a favorite child, a favorite Disney cupcake , or between a Dole Whip or a Mickey Pretzel — there’s enough love to go around! But just like cupcakes and classic Disney snacks (and maybe your kids, too… only you know your family dynamic…😂), there’s a certain flavor that might just hit the spot for what you’re looking for.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

There’s no doubt that Disney vacations are expensive , and no one wants buyer’s remorse when it comes to what can usually be the most EXPENSIVE part of your Disney trip . We’re approaching this chaos-agent of a decision with as much logic as possible, so we’re breaking it down into five categories:

Common Ground

Theme/rooms, transportation.

We’re putting each resort through these paces to see where they stand and which one may be speaking to you for your Disney trip.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Before we start down the rabbit hole into the Wonderland of their differences, let’s review the similarities of these resorts. These resorts are both Disney Deluxe Resorts , so they will be at a similar price point, with similar room sizes, and the same perks .  They both have close proximity to the Disney Parks, and even within walking distance! And both offer Disney Vacation Club Villas as additional accommodations.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

The Beach at the Polynesian

For the Polynesian Village , that means that for the cheapest room at the  cheapest time to visit, you can expect to pay around $662 per night (not accounting for any tax or current discounts), and it goes up to $5,492 per night (not accounting for any tax or current discounts) for the most expensive rooms at the  most expensive time to visit.

For the Beach Club , that means that for the  cheapest  room at the  cheapest  time to visit, you can expect to pay around  $534 per night  (not accounting for any tax or current discounts), and it goes up to  $4,763 per night  (not accounting for any tax or current discounts) for the  most expensive  rooms at the  most expensive  time to visit.

Extra Theme Park Hours Benefits for Disney World Resort Hotel Guests

Just like our ol’  Friend, Chandler Bing, would say, “Could these resorts BE any more different?” Both the Poly and the Beach Club are Deluxe resorts and offer the poshest of Disney’s accommodations and perks, but that doesn’t mean they look the same!

The Polynesian

The Polynesian celebrates tiki culture, and offers a nostalgic image of Pacific island vacations, but isn’t necessarily a literal representation of those environments. It’s filled with dark woods, tribal symbols, and tropical flowers. The Polynesian is one of Walt Disney World’s opening day hotels, it has a rich history, and a large following among Disney fans. It really does embrace its name of “village” as its layout is comprised of 11 longhouses plus the over-the-water Bora Bora Bungalows , which branch out from the Great Ceremonial House.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Polynesian Village Resort

All of the rooms have recently been renovated and updated with a  Moana -inspired theme, and Kona Cafe , a table service restaurant in the Great Ceremonial House, has also recently reopened with a new look and refreshed menu. So even though this beauty is 50 years old, she’s gotten some TLC and looks better than ever!

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

But with renovations and updates comes construction, like over at the old Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show location , which is currently an active construction zone as it will be the site for a new DVC tower . Though it shares the same white sand beaches as the Grand Floridian, the island vibe here just makes them pop. Sunsets on the Poly beach are just superior to the other Disney World “beaches”.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Beach at Polynesian Village Resort

Not to be confused with its up-tight and snooty sister resort, the Yacht Club, the Beach Club is where you can relax, let your hair down, and wander through the lobby in bare feet with your bucket of collected seashells.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Disney’s Beach Club Resort Lobby

The Beach Club steers clear of those bold nautical colors and embraces pastels and the soft tones of the beach at sunset.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Beach Club Standard Room

Though, we wouldn’t mind some more Disney touches, these rooms are soft, cozy, and embrace the beach cottage vibe of New England.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

The Beach Club renovated and updated the rooms in 2016, for a more sophisticated appearance with simple features and softer coloring.  These rooms don’t have the personality that you can find at the Contemporary and Polynesian . So, if you’re looking for a room with some “character,” the Beach Club may not be your jam.

This is a difficult decision because both of these resorts really channel in those beachy vibes. Do you want your beachy-themed vacation to feel more like Hawaii or Bora Bora? Or are you looking for more of the coast of Maine feel? Do you want to feel like you just stepped in from a New England clambake or from a tropical luau? Your preference may give you a particular leaning, but if you’re looking for rooms with a bit more “character”, then the Polynesian might be your choice.

Why You Should Add Disney’s Yacht Club to Your Resort Hopping List Right NOW

Pools, splash pads, hot tubs, and lounge chairs, vacation just doesn’t feel completed without spending some time by the pool. Which of these resorts is the aquatic champion of water lounging? Only one way to find out…

The Polynesian’s whole vibe is stepping into a tropical oasis, so the pool game is strong with this one!

There are two pools at the Polynesian: the Lava Pool and the Oasis Pool. However, the Lava Pool is the showstopper here — because it’s a volcano! Ok, not a for-real volcano, obvi, but it has a waterslide from the top of the volcano’s peak, which is pretty epic.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Even if you’re not looking to swoosh down a volcano waterslide, the lounge area at these pools and the pool bars (which definitely enhance the atmosphere), the Barefoot Pool Bar , and the Oasis Bar & Grill . And Capt. Cook’s and Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace  are also so close they could be considered pool area enhancements, too.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

There are lots of drink options and plenty of food options for your day by the pool. You can even try a DFB Dole Whip drink hack that became a permanent menu item on the Barefoot Pool Bar menu !

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

And now we’re officially on island time!

The Beach Club may be understated when it comes to its lobby and resort rooms, but it is not to be outdone in the pool category. Disney’s Beach Club shares a pool complex with its neighboring resort, the Yacht Club, Stormalong Bay.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club

Stormalong Bay is a destination on all its own. This pool complex is almost like its own mini-water park, with sand at the bottom and even a lazy river! So, your kiddos can take advantage of the ‘shipwrecked’ themed water slide, while you leisurely float around the lazy river, so just relax on of the many lounge chairs.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Stormalong Bay Shipwreck

Stormalong Bay is also nestled in close to Beaches and Cream , an iconic ice cream shop, providing over-the-top milkshakes, sundaes, and comfort junk food essentials like burgers and grilled cheese sandwiches.

Both have two pools, and both have pool bars, lounge chairs, and splash areas. Are you looking for adventure on a shipwrecked water slide or a cruise down a lazy river? Or something a bit more casual and with that island vibe? Seeking the pure wow factor with the Volcano and the proximity to Dole Whips ? Or are you craving getting your toes in the sand and a deluxe ice cream sundae?

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

There’s no real loser in this category if you’ve found relaxation and joy, but our heart leans towards the Beach Club, because that pool is just epic!

10 Hidden Secrets About Disney World Pools

Because we are Disney FOOD Blog, we take food seriously. Very. Seriously. And we love it all. We love the cheap, comfort of plastic cheese , and we love the high-brow sophistication of a wine flight or a multi-course pre-fixe meal . We don’t discriminate; we are a lover of all foods. Since food is SO important, let’s see who these resorts stack up against each other in the restaurant category.

Polynesian Village

Polynesian Village has ten (10!) dining options, including lounges and pool bars (because those count!)!

Barefoot Pool Bar   is the perfect place to grab a specialty cocktail to enjoy while lounging  by the Lava Pool . Oasis Pool Bar & Grill   serves up Polynesian-themed food and specialty cocktails to guests enjoying the  Oasis Pool.

Captain Cook’s   is a  quick-service location , popular for being the place you can grab Tonga Toast for breakfast in the morning, and  Island-inspired dishes like the Pulled Pork Nachos and Thai Coconut Meatballs for lunch and dinner.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

The recently renovated and reopened Kona Cafe serves  breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a casual setting . The sweet Tonga Toast makes breakfast at Kona is a guest favorite . Kona Island   conveniently sits right off the second-floor monorail entrance. In the morning, this location serves Kona coffee and pastries, while at night, it becomes a sushi bar with cocktails.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Kona Cafe is right next to Kona Island

‘Ohana  has an  oak wood fire pit that flavors the grilled meats served at an  all-you-care-to-enjoy meal  each evening. In the morning, Lilo and Stitch entertain guests during an  Island-style character breakfast . Hawaiian side dishes complement each meal. Tambu Lounge   is a relaxing bar where you can enjoy a drink prior to your dinner at ‘Ohana or Kona Cafe. The  Lapu Lapu  (a rum concoction served in a pineapple) is its claim to fame.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Our favorite noodles

Pineapple Lanai   is where you can find the famous  Dole Whip ! This is a Polynesian Village Resort claim to fame, as it was the first Disney World Resort where Dole Whip was served outside of the parks. The Polynesian remains the only Resort with its own spot dedicated to the treat.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto   is a  unique tiki bar  located in the Great Ceremonial House, complete with an  interactive room  (elements react based on the ordering of certain drinks) and  wacky hijinks from your servers , the Skippers!  Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace   is the more relaxed (but still entertaining)  outdoor counterpart  to Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto.

Learn more about the Polynesian Village Resorts Restaurants here!

Hurricane Hanna’s is a pool bar, tucked under the Stormalong Bay waterslide that provides fixes for your hunger without having to wander too far from the pool.

The Beach Club is home to one lounge, one quick-service market, a table service option, and a Character dining restaurant. Not to mention its close proximity to Yacht Club and all of those dining options.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Beaches and Cream

The  Beach Club Marketplace  is the quick service location and gift shop at  Disney’s Beach Club Resort . Once you make your way through the gift shop you’ll find yourself in the quick service dining area, complete with a sandwich counter. Guests will find basic staples for  breakfast, lunch, and dinner  in addition to a dry goods section (think boxes of cereal, peanut butter, and other essentials you might need). This is also the location for filling your  Refillable Resort Mugs .

Hot breakfast choices include a breakfast platter, pastries, and oatmeal. Lunch and dinner options include sandwiches, salads, and some truly tasty baked mac and cheese dishes. Oodles of tempting sweet treats are often found in the refrigerated cases, so keep an eye out for specialty cupcakes and more!

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Beach Club Marketplace

Ah,  Beaches & Cream Soda Shop … THIS is the place to go for  classic diner eats  and  GIGANTIC ice cream sundaes in Walt Disney World! Tucked between the  Yacht Club and Beach Club Resorts , this authentic soda counter restaurant is decked out in pastels and is complete with a jukebox! Though the sundaes and shakes here are sizable no matter which sweet treat you order, Beaches & Cream is especially well known as being  home to the famous  Kitchen Sink : an eight-scoop ice cream sundae (made for sharing with the whole group) served up with EVERY TOPPING in the house! Beaches and Cream underwent a renovation  to expand the dining space and reopened in late 2019, so this formerly small spot can accommodate many more guests these days. And you can always grab some ice cream (or hard shakes & floats for adults) at the  Beaches & Cream To Go Window , too!

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

No Way Jose at Beaches and Cream

Cape May Cafe  is located at  Disney’s Beach Club Resort , just inside the lobby! Cape May Cafe currently features an all-you-care-to-enjoy breakfast buffet with Disney pals!  Minnie’s Beach Bash Breakfast  is one of the best places to see some of the most beloved Disney characters outside of the parks. Though characters may vary,  Minnie, Donald, Daisy, and Goofy  can often be found at Cape May Cafe, all dressed up for a day at the beach!

Though Disney characters are not present during  Dinner , the evening meal serves up something unique, as all-you-can-eat  surf-and-turf  gets the spotlight, with plenty for landlubbers and seafood fans to enjoy!

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Minnie’s Beach Bash Breakfast

Located directly next to  Cape May Cafe  near the lobby of the Beach Club Resort,  Martha’s Vineyard Lounge is a relaxing spot to get a bite and a drink in the evening hours. Specialty cocktails, craft drafts, wines, and a full bar menu are available. And, like Cape May Cafe, the cuisine (a small selection of appetizers) is inspired by a Northeastern clambake, with comforting seafood favorites like clam chowder served alongside a few pub classics like chicken wings.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Martha’s Vineyard

Sometimes, Martha’s Vineyard Lounge will also host drawing or painting activities, so be on the look out for those.

Has Disney World Gone TOO Far With Their Creative Drinks?! You Tell Us!

It’s so hard to designate a clear winner for food — because we love it all! If you and your family love some more “unique” food, and options that vary away from the traditional comfort food of fried chicken, steak, seafood, burgers, and chicken nuggets, then the Polynesian might be your jam! All of its menus are influenced by island flavors, and though not bizarre or untraditional, you’ll definitely find some creative takes on your familiar favorites.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Kids’ Sushi

The Beach Club really embraces the casual vibe of its setting with over the top sundaes and milkshakes at Beaches & Cream, and the casual fun of a clambake with your favorite Disney pals over at Cape May Cafe. Nothing hoity-toity here, just good ol’ fashioned family-beachy fun!

EVERYTHING to Eat at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

Do these resorts offer anything different when it comes to transportation? Let’s see!!

Polynesian Village is on the Monorail loop . It’s the first stop after the Transportation & Ticketing Center (TTC) on the way to the Magic Kingdom. If Magic Kingdom is your destination, there is also a boat option to sail across Seven Seas Lagoon to the front steps of the Magic Kingdom. You can also get your steps in by strolling the walkway over to Magic Kingdom, but it’s not for the faint of heart as it is about a 20-25 minute walk.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Boat launch from Polynesian Village Resort to Magic Kingdom

If Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, or Disney Springs is your destination, then you can board one of Disney’s busses to transport you over to these parks.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Polynesian Bus Service

But if EPCOT is your park for the day, here is where the difference sets in. Because the Poly is so close to the Transportation & Ticketing Center, if you don’t mind a brief 5-10 minute walk, you can waltz over to the TTC and board a Monorail to whiz you off to EPCOT. This may give the Poly the edge over the Grand Floridian as it does provide relatively easy access to that EPCOT Monorail loop .

The Beach Club is considered an “EPCOT-area” resort. It sits on Crescent Lake, next to Yacht Club Resort, and across the lake from Disney’s BoardWalk Inn.  This resort is situated in between TWO Disney parks, EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. Yep, that’s right, you can walk or enjoy a relaxing boat ride on a Friendship Cruise boat to both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

If Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, or Disney Springs is your destination, then you can board one of Disney’s buses to transport you over to these parks.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Disney buses can get you just about anywhere!

And as if walkways, boats, and buses weren’t enough options for you, Beach Club guests are also within walking distance of the EPCOT Skyliner station. This means you have easy access to the other Skyliner resorts if you want to go exploring other resorts or just have a relaxing cruise through the sky.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Walt Disney World Skyliner

These neighboring resorts are pretty much a tie when it comes to transportation. They both have pretty quick access to TWO Disney parks, and have the options of busses, boats, and even direct walkways to help you get around.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

The Polynesian is right on the Monorail loop, and the Beach Club gives you access to the Skyliner, so they both have some unique offerings as well. It might just boil down to which parks do you plan to spend more time in, Hollywood Studios or Magic Kingdom?

Why You Should Skip the Monorail on Your Next Magic Kingdom Trip

The winner.

So, who is the ultimate winner in the Polynesian vs. Beach Club battle? We hate to say it, but it depends ! The Polynesian may seem like a clear choice because of its theming and popularity with Disney fans. If the Beach Club seemed like the clear choice to you, it is a great hotel, it has an awesome pool and is just a quick walk from EPCOT’s World Showcase. It’s up to you and your group to decide what makes the most sense for you using all that we talked about above.

Are Disney club-level rooms worth the extra cost?

Summer Hull

If you've shopped online for Disney resort hotel reservations, you may have seen the words "Disney Club Level" on some booking options and wondered what exactly they mean.

You can probably quickly tell that these accommodations are more expensive than non-club options, but it isn't immediately obvious what that extra cash gets you ... and whether it is worth it.

Fortunately, I've been lucky enough to try out a number of Disney club-level rooms at a few different Disney resorts over the years. Here's all you need to know about these pricier rooms so you can decide if they're worth the splurge.

FOR NO-COST ASSISTANCE WITH PLANNING AND BOOKING YOUR NEXT DISNEY VACATION, CHECK OUT TPG'S DISNEY BOOKING PARTNER, MOUSE COUNSELORS .

What is the club level at Disney resorts?

Paying extra for a club-level room at a Disney resort entitles you to some extra perks and services beyond that of a standard Disney room reservation , largely in the form of food and drinks served in a club lounge.

The club level is not available at every Disney resort, but you will find it at these Deluxe and Moderate Disney properties:

  • Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge .
  • Disney's BoardWalk Inn .
  • Disney's Contemporary Resort .
  • Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa .
  • Disney's Polynesian Village Resort .
  • Disney's Wilderness Lodge .
  • Disney's Yacht Club Resort .
  • Disney's Beach Club Resort.
  • Gran Destino Tower at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort (the only Moderate resort that currently has a club level).

With a club-level room at Walt Disney World, you are not only assigned a specific type of room, but you also have access to a club lounge and the hosts within that lounge. These hosts can help you fix your park reservations, troubleshoot basic tech support issues with the app, give advice on planning your day and generally make your stay more personalized and, dare we say, magical.

What are Disney club-level benefits?

When you arrive to check into your Disney club-level room, you'll likely be personally escorted up to the club lounge to complete your check-in and orientation, which covers all you can expect from the lounge and your various club benefits.

The club rooms are often centrally located, so you won't have to worry about being at the far end of a spread-out resort. For the Contemporary, that means you'll be in the atrium, close to the restaurants, monorail and, of course, the club lounge itself.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

The most tangible benefit of Disney's club level is the club lounge itself, where you'll have access to food, drinks and snacks from morning to night.

Of the options available, breakfast and evening appetizers are the most substantial offerings. In fact, those are the two meals you could make out of your lounge access if you were so inclined. Be sure to leave room for dessert, though, as the options are consistently tasty.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Years ago, when I first booked the club level at the Contemporary, the agent on the phone told me I was in for a treat and that I had to make myself a plate of dessert, grab some wine from the club and retreat to my theme park-facing room for my own personal fireworks viewing party.

He was right. Having the show's music playing in the background via my TV while enjoying my selection of snacks was every bit as much of a treat as he said it would be.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

What can you expect from Disney club-level lounges?

While I've briefly touched on the food and beverage options available in Disney's lounges, let's break it down further, so you know exactly what to expect.

On my most recent visits, breakfast was available from 7 to 10:30 a.m. daily, with coffee starting at 6:30 a.m. Morning options typically include a mix of hot and cold items, such as comforting bites like fried chicken on top of biscuits and creamy grits, plus healthier offerings like avocado toast, fruit and yogurt. Cold cuts and a selection of pastries are available as well.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

In the afternoon, the offerings thin out a bit. However, the fridge remains stocked, which is quite handy for grabbing a drink between treks to the parks. We've also been known to toss an Uncrustable or two, along with packaged grapes and maybe a wrapped-up cookie, into our backpacks to enjoy in the parks when we don't want to stop and eat a real meal.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Around 5 p.m. is when the "good" stuff comes out until 7 p.m. Whether you want a snack to tide you over before heading back to the parks or are aiming to put together a "dinner" on the cheap, you can accomplish either goal at the lounge, so long as your crew isn't too picky. There are a handful of hot options each evening, usually from the hotel's restaurant kitchen.

It's common to find some kid-pleasers such as nuggets, tater tots and rolls next to more adult-oriented favorites like short ribs, soy-glazed salmon and serrano-wrapped melon.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Fair warning, though, if do want to turn the evening club options into dinner, you won't want to wait to arrive until just before they're cleared at 7 p.m., as you may find the scene looking a bit messy with options lacking.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

After the evening snacks (or dinner, as the case may be) are finished, the lounge shifts its focus to desserts and drinks, which are available from about 8 to 10 p.m.

These options are the perfect way to unwind after a busy day at the theme parks, especially if you time your snack consumption just right to coincide with watching the fireworks from the lounge or your room (if you have a theme park view).

The desserts may consist of cookies, cupcakes, tarts and cakes, among other sweet treats.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Adult beverages are included, too. Expect a selection of a few different wines in the evening, along with a variety of bottled beers and/or a beer or two on tap. Grand Marnier, Baileys, Kahlua and Frangelico are some of the common cordials I've seen on offer.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

How much does Disney's club level cost?

Depending on the resort and time of year, expect Disney club-level rooms to cost somewhere between $400 and $1,000 per night. The Gran Destino rooms are often the least expensive thanks to being the only Moderate resort option, while the Grand Floridian, the Contemporary and the Polynesian club-level rooms are typically the most expensive.

I've seen Disney club-level rooms start at about a $150 to $200 upcharge over non-club rooms. However, I've also seen the price difference between the entry-level room and the club-level room be roughly $300 to $400 per night, especially in cases such as the Grand Floridian and the Contemporary, where the main building's rooms are just inherently pricier than the outer buildings.

When you layer club-level service on top of the rooms, the spread for nightly rates at resorts with club levels widens in a hurry. To be sure you're getting the most bang for your buck, I highly recommend using a free Disney vacation planner (such as TPG's booking partner Mouse Counselors ) since they can get you additional discounts and assist with planning other parts of your trip.

Is Disney's club level worth it?

Now that you know what it is and what it generally costs, it's time to determine if the Disney Club Level is worth it.

If you want as much convenience, service and magic as possible while at Disney World, it may very well be worth paying up for a club-level room (if you can fit it into your budget). This is much like the equation with the concierge-level service on a Disney cruise .

However, if "worth it" means you're spending more in one area to save in another (aka on food and drinks), then the answer is: It depends. You're unlikely to ever truly save money by booking a club-level room, but there are situations where you can trim expenses here and there.

For example, if you're a family that's going to make good use of the food and drinks in the lounge, then it's not unreasonable to make up a large portion of that room price difference by dining in the lounge instead of at the theme parks, where food and beverage prices are notoriously high.

Of course, ordering essentials and having them directly delivered to Disney via a grocery service is probably cheaper, but that doesn't mean you still can't save some money by staying in a club-level room.

As with all Disney resort rooms, there's another way you can shave a little more off the out-of-pocket cost: credit card rewards.

For example, with the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card , the miles you accrue can be used to offset any travel charge on the card or any Disney booking made within Capital One's travel site . The Bilt Mastercard® (see rates and fees ) also has a travel portal that lets you use rewards for Disney resorts.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Bottom line

You likely won't want to book a Disney club-level room for a weeklong Disney World vacation (unless you have an unlimited budget).

However, choosing this type of accommodation for a few days of a trip is worth it, especially if you plan on limiting your off-site meals and aren't set on spending every waking moment in the parks.

Just be sure to be smart about when you reserve this kind of room. Aim to lock it in when the nightly price differential is no more than $200 above the room you would otherwise book so you can get more value out of the experience.

Polynesian v. Beach Club

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

This Walt Disney World hotel showdown compares the best of the best: Beach Club and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. The ultimate hotel near Magic Kingdom versus the ultimate hotel near Epcot. Arguably two very different hotels that will appeal to different demographics… but we’re going to have them battle anyway!

Think of this as a follow-up to our Beach Club v. BoardWalk Inn and Polynesian v. Grand Floridian match-ups. Beach Club won the former (and secured a decisive 65% of the reader vote) while Polynesian won the latter (and scored a whopping 74% of the reader vote). If this were March Madness, those previous posts would’ve been the Elite Eight with the current match-up being a Final Four game. (The other side of the bracket would have our Wilderness Lodge v. Animal Kingdom Lodge face-off in the Final Four after both routed the competition so badly in the Elite Eight that those match-ups don’t even merit blog posts. 😉 )

This one is going to be tough and, like many of the comparisons, will ultimately hinge in large part on personal preference. Still, we’re hoping to help the undecided to decide, with a comparison that strives for some degree of objectivity. Both rank highly in our Walt Disney World Deluxe Resorts Rankings , and both are some of the ultimate in theme and luxury at Walt Disney World. Really, you cannot go wrong either way here.

As with all posts in this ‘versus’ series of Walt Disney World hotel comparisons, we use 6 elements of two different resorts to determine which is “the best.” It’s time to compare and contrast…

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Theme: Polynesian – Beach Club lost its thematic showdown with BoardWalk Inn primarily because the latter conveyed a more distinct theme in the similar concept both encapsulated. While we also give the Poly an edge over Beach Club, it’s not a decisive victory. Beach Club’s presentation of an idealized version of Newport (New England, not California) is pretty effective when not judged against other Crescent Lake resorts.

However, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort does a better job of capturing the imagination, making you feel like you’re at a tropical resort. From the lush grounds to the South Seas vibe throughout the resort, it’s the perfect confluence of 20th century tiki culture and authentic island paradise. The result is something that doesn’t exist in the real world, but (like so many of Disney’s finest creations) gets you to suspend disbelief. Actually, that could probably be said about both of these results.

Consequently, and as we’ve said before, this is going to come down to how guests digest each theme–how a particular theme makes them feel . We were really surprised by the number of people who indicated that they didn’t like the Polynesian’s theme. (Point of clarification: the Poly is a twist on tiki culture popularized in the 1950s; it is not meant to be an authentic representation of past or present Polynesia. If you’re looking for authentic culture, try Aulani.) When it comes down to the feeling we get from a theme, Disney’s Beach Club Resort rates highly–for us, at least.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Rooms: Polynesian – In its previous ‘battle’, Beach Club lost to BoardWalk Inn, on the basis that it is difficult to distinguish Beach Club’s rooms from a trendy, modern day hotel at the beach. These rooms do not balance theme and luxury well, and feel like they could be found at any ole upscale hotel. Don’t get us wrong: they’re nice, but they’re nothing special. And for the prices Walt Disney World charges, we’re looking for something special.

The rooms at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort offer that something special. These rooms are spacious and luxurious, while also conveying a sense of tiki-culture kitsch. These rooms simultaneously feel luxurious and “light” which is a real accomplishment. (Even if you didn’t care at all about theme, the Poly’s rooms are nicer.)

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Dining: Polynesian – This is a tricky one. When approaching this, I wondered whether I should be consistent with previous ‘versus’ showdowns and only consider dining at a particular resort, or expand that to the entire region. I’ve decided to adopt the latter approach, as I feel the previous resort comparisons were narrower, whereas this is a hybrid individual resort comparison and ‘resort district’ comparison. However, for the sake of being equitable, I’ll limit each resort to what’s within walking distance.

If you look at the table service lineup in the vicinity of each (again, by foot), you have some of the heaviest hitters in all of Walt Disney World. It’s hard to declare a victor in that regard, as each is stacked, offering something for every budget and taste preference, with some really high quality options. The decision becomes much easier–a no brainer, really–once we turn to counter service options. The counter service selection at the Crescent Lake resorts is pitiful. BoardWalk Bakery is the highlight, and that’s best considered a bakery , not a restaurant or food court. The Poly, on the other hand, has Captain Cook’s and the newly revamped Gasparilla Island Grill (plus poolside options), both of which are exceptional.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Transportation/Location: Polynesian – It would be really easy to call this one a push, given that both have really prime locations and you can get to two parks from each without taking a bus. I know some people who prefer Magic Kingdom area resorts, and people who prefer Epcot area resorts. Our preference varies from trip to trip, in fact.

However, when trying to look at this objectively, there’s one reason why I think calling this a push would be a cop-out: one of the parks Beach Club is within walking distance of is Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Things will be different once Star Wars Land opens, but right now, we barely recommend visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios in the first place. For the vast majority of people, being a monorail ride to Magic Kingdom and Epcot is going to beat being within walking distance/boat of Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Pools: Beach Club – Nothing has changed since the last time we wrote about Storm-Along Bay. It’s still the #1 resort pool at Walt Disney World, and still the gold standard. This isn’t “just a pool,” it’s more like a “water park lite” (very light–it’s definitely no Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon) that is 3 acres in size with sand at the bottom, slides, overlooks, and a lazy river. The layout of the pool is also very cool, with ample lounging space and an engaging environment that makes it fun to explore. This will stick with many kids as the highlight of their trip to Walt Disney World (seriously, we hear from so many people who say their kids care more about the pools than anything else). Moreover, Storm-Along Bay rivals Animal Kingdom Lodge’s savanna is the single most compelling amenity in all of Walt Disney World.

The newly reimagined Lava Pool is imaginative and immersive, with coves to explore (and hide from the sun) and a fun place for kids to explore, but it still doesn’t hold a candle to Storm-Along Bay. Nor do the quiet or secondary pools. The retro style of Polynesian’s Oasis Pool (complete with shade structures that act as quasi-cabanas) is nice, but it also isn’t enough to overcome the powerhouse that is Storm-Along Bay.

Sarah & Tom Bricker - Disney's Beach Club Resort

Cost: Beach Club – These both have rack rates that are $500+ per night most of the year. The difference, though, is that most of the time, Beach Club stays in that $500 range (sometimes in the $400 range) for a standard room. By contrast, the Poly hits $600 and even eclipses $700/night during some seasons.

While they are both among the most expensive resorts in all of Walt Disney World, the $100/night (or so) gap between the two is pretty significant. Moreover, the gap only grows if you want a nicer view. If you want something with a view of Cinderella Castle at the Poly, expect to pay nearly double the standard room rate at Beach Club (or $200-$300 more than their highest view tier–Beach Club doesn’t have a theme park view category, so it’s not a totally fair comparison).

disney polynesian resort vs yacht club

Verdict: Polynesian – For us, this verdict ultimately comes down to the Poly’s well-rounded, high-level of quality across the board. We can’t think of a single, glaring weakness it has; by contrast, Beach Club has a couple. These weaknesses may or may not matter to you, just as the strengths of each may or may not matter, but they’re the basis for the Poly’s victory.

Long-time Walt Disney World fans probably already have a favorite, with many already being on Team Crescent Lake Resort or Team Monorail Resort. For us on a personal level, it’s a close call that probably depends upon the weather and nature of the trip. For objective advice to first-timers, it’s a little clearer. Even if you grade on a slight curve due to the price difference, the Poly still has a location that’s going to be more convenient for most Walt Disney World guests, dining options that make more sense, and nicer rooms.

We mention first-timers, specifically, because it’s likely many other Walt Disney World fans have already formed their “alliances.” Even first-timers should use some degree of discretion, considering how much factors like being on the monorail and having good counter service dining at the Poly, or the–potentially ultimate–factor of access to Storm-Along Bay pool at Beach Club.

Now, I’m curious as to what everyone else thinks. As has become a fun “tradition” with these versus posts, here’s a poll so you can vote for your favorite of the two:

Considering location, pools, theme, rooms, dining, price & other factors, which of these two Walt Disney World hotels do you prefer: – Disney Tourist Blog (@DisTouristBlog) February 6, 2017

Remember, with great power comes great responsibility, so give this vote the proper consideration it deserves… 😉 Last week’s poll for Saratoga Springs v. Old Key West went pretty much how we expected, 59% in favor of Old Key West (by the way, we stopped by there at dusk last night, and it only reinforced my opinion there–I could sit for hours by the dock just listening to that background music!) I almost don’t want to make prediction on this poll for fear of being way off. Even though these are two resorts that are really popular with Disney fans, I think the Poly will be the favorite, by around 55/45.

Now that we’ve shared our take, we want to know your preference. Is Storm-Along Bay the deciding factor for you? Is being on the monorail loop a better location for you, or would you rather be at Crescent Lake? Are we missing a key variable that could, potentially give one the edge? Please give your feedback via the poll and comments below. While we hope this post is helpful in offering a head-to-head comparison of the most crucial elements of each Walt Disney World resort experience, we know it’s not definitive or the final word for every guest. In addition to reading the comments before making your own decision, we suggest supplementing this with our full review of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and our Disney’s Beach Club Resort Review (the latter is a bit outdated). With that said, what do you think…did we make the right choice here?

We have stayed at both and for us BC wins every time. The rooms at Poly are dark, pool does not compare to Storm along bay and we enjoy being able to walk to two parks – which you cannot do from the Poly. We also love all the restaurants within walking distance to BC – including Flying Fish AND all the Epcot restaurants. Sorry Poly…

' src=

My vote goes to the Beach Club. Number one reason is Stormalong Bay- you can’t beat that at any other of the Disney Hotels! Then the close proximity to Epcot & a short boat ride to Hollywood Studios is wonderful. Restaurants are great- the quick service does need to be moved & be on its own. Love the beachy colors and decor – very calming effect. I like the Polynesian too, enjoyed being able to hotel hop on the monorail- but with the added security at each hotel, it’s not as easy- (I do understand it’s for our safety). Love Trader Sam’s! And of course they get a point having Dole Whip’s there! The Poly has improved over the years, but overall, it’s the Beach Club!

' src=

I’ve always loved BC and the pool is my main go to. During Christmas it’s great to be able to walk to Epcot, or during F&W. However, I just stayed at Polynesian for the first time and like my view of the garden and the ambience, especially at night with the music and torches. I found more eating options around the monorail. There are more places to sit and unwind at BC if you can’t get to your room and it’s raining. Also you don’t feel cooped up at BC since you don’t have to be exposed to the elements to get from your room to the lobby.

' src=

The Poly and Beach Club are our two favorite resorts and we often do split stays between them. Having said that, the Poly rooms are dated and just feel much “darker” and not nearly as clean as the Beach Club rooms. We prefer the dining at the BC, within walking distance to all of Epcot’s quick service. Beach Club is also much more peaceful than the Poly.

' src=

Just stayed at the Poly. Loved the theme and the plant life. The room on the another hand had much to be desired. It was run down with numerous carpet stains. Trash left in the room. Hallway had a section of the ceiling that had collapsed. Hallway carpet was trashed. not what you would expect from this caliber of hotel. Would highly recommend staying at the Beach Club. The pool is worth it.

' src=

We are new DVC owners and had our first trip, as such, in Dec. 2016. I really liked the newly remodeled rooms at the Poly but was very disappointed that the hallways and lobby of our building was not remodeled, very run down look. Any news that remodel to these areas may still take place?

' src=

My main issue with DVC at the Polynesian is the Pago Pago building. The poor people who get stuck with rooms on the Parking Lot side – it’s like you are staying at the TTC and not a lush South Seas resort. Rooms with this view are so terrible they should have their own points category. We were lucky and were issued rooms on the quiet side of Pago Pago (i.e. the side that reminds you that you are actually staying at the Polynesian), but the thought of even getting a room on the TTC side of Pago Pago makes me hesitant to book the Polynesian again.

' src=

It’s really a hard one for me! I want to stay at the Poly to try to get that Aulani feel (I know that it will not really be the same) but I also want to stay at the Beach Club because of the pool. I have decided that we will need to do a split stay. That’s all there is to it! I have stayed at the GF several times & love it.

I also plan to buy resale so that’s really what I need to decide on – where to buy? To book the BC, Poly or GF, you really need to have that 11 month advantage… decisions, decisions…. Do you have any insight on that Tom or Sarah?

' src=

The Beach Club is beautiful. And yes, they have a great pool. But overall? No contest. Polynesian wins hands down. It was the first Disney resort I ever stayed in, and grew up going to. It’s home to me. The theme, the ambience, the location, the pool, Captain Cook’s…. everything is fantastic. I have such a deep, devoted love for the Poly that I got a hibiscus tattoo in 2016, in its honor! Love, love, love the Poly!

' src=

Thanks for this, and timely too! I’m staying at BVC Friday night and Poly Saturday and Sunday!

' src=

Poly and Beach Club are both our favorite resorts! Which one to choose depends on what type of vacation we feel like having… And the age of the kids. If I have to vote, Poly wins by a hair.

' src=

I have stayed at the Beach Club twice and the Polynesian twice, and even though I love everything Hawaii, I like them both about the same and both have good and just ok points to them. Theming – I love the Beach & Hawaii-so tie Food options- Polynesian Pools- Tie Location- I have to say Beach Club because walk to Epcot, & walk thru Epcot to monorail. But my all time favorite-except for pool is The Contemporary. I would love to be able to stay at the new Villas at Polynesian.

' src=

I was waiting for this comparison and hoping it would help me more. I have a deluxe studio villa booked at both of these resorts for our upcoming trip because I can’t decide between them. We stayed at the Poly on our trip last October and LOVED it. My daughter really liked the lava pool. I think she would love Storm-Along Bay even more though. The decor at Beach Club seems a bit boring and the deluxe studio is definitely smaller. The price difference for 8 days is only $420 more for Poly. Decisions, decisions! If it were the regular rooms at the Poly it would be no contest. I abhor the decor of those rooms, but the villa’s decor is great.

' src=

Why not do a split stay? You’d get the best of both worlds–could do a pool day and Epcot/DHS days while at Beach Club, then switch the Poly for MK/whatever else.

' src=

Lynn June 30,2020 Beach club hands down is the best resort for your money if staying deluxe. Pool is great, ice cream shop is an awesome touch, and the boardwalk offers activities, entertainment, and more dining options. Walking paths are also convenient and bus transportation is efficient. I have never waited more than 15 minutes to go to any location. Polynesian although very nicely themed is always overly busy making even dining availability difficult. It is also extremely over priced.

' src=

Thanks for running this battle!

I have great childhood memories of the Poly, but my one adult-life stay at WDW was a great one at the Beach Club. I am torn as to which I prefer.

The best pools at Walt Disney World

A sk a returning family about their trip to Walt Disney World, and you might hear the common refrain: "My kids just wanted to swim in the pool the whole time!"

It's tough to top the nostalgic appeal of classic rides like Peter Pan's Flight and Haunted Mansion, the high-speed thrills of Expedition Everest and Tron Lightcycle Run, and the draw of Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park and Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, but the kids are onto something.

Tucked away from the bustling parks are some of the most meticulously themed and immersive pools you'll find anywhere. Walt Disney World's resort pools aren't just a place to cool off. They offer an experience that, for some, can rival the theme parks.

If you already know your itinerary will include some serious pool time, this guide to the best pools at Walt Disney World will help you pick the perfect pool for your trip.

Related: The return of all-day park-hopping and the other major changes coming to Disney World in 2024

What to know about the Walt Disney World pools

Every Walt Disney World hotel has at least one pool, with most of the larger, more sprawling resorts boasting three or more. Each resort's main pool, known as the feature pool, will be the most elaborate, with increasingly impressive theming and features as you go up the pricing ladder across Disney's three hotel tiers — Value, Moderate and Deluxe.

The feature pool will also have a pool bar and quick-service food options nearby. At Moderate and Deluxe resorts, you'll also find a waterslide and kids splash areas. Value resorts have large feature pools but no waterslides or hot tubs.

Daily recreation activities take place at the feature pool, typically in the afternoons. Recreation hosts will lead games for kids, sometimes with small take-home trinkets as prizes and Disney trivia everyone can join in on.

The feature pool is also where you'll find the biggest crowds and most noise. So, if you prefer to lounge quietly with a good book, you may want to seek out a leisure pool, sometimes referred to as a "quiet" pool.

Walt Disney World pools are heated to 82 degrees year-round, though the water can be warmer in the summer thanks to the blazing Central Florida sun. Complimentary towels and life jackets are available at all pools. Lifeguard availability and pool hours vary by pool.

Best Disney World pool for families

Many of Walt Disney World's resorts are destination-worthy even without the addition of the nearby theme parks, perhaps none more so than Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge .

More than 200 different animals, including zebras and giraffes, roam numerous savannas. The Africa-themed resort is also home to two fantastic feature pools, one at each of the resort's two hotels, Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas — Jambo House and Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas — Kidani Village.

At Jambo House, the 11,000-square-foot Uzima Springs Pool features a zero-depth entry and 67-foot-long waterslide and has a maximum depth of 4 feet and 9 inches. There's also a wading pool for kids and two hot tubs. The resort's main quick-service dining location, The Mara, is just steps from the pool gate, and the Uzima Pool Bar is a full bar serving cocktails, beers on tap, frozen drinks and more.

Uzima Springs is an excellent pool, but it's Kidani Village's Samawati Springs Pool that makes this resort our pick for the best pool for families.

The 4,700-square-foot, 118,138-gallon pool offers something for every preference. It has a zero-depth entry point that's great for kiddos, two hot tubs for those looking to relax, and one of Disney World's most thrilling hotel waterslides, 128 feet long and fast, for swimmers looking for excitement. A second, much smaller waterslide with a pool depth of 3 feet and 6 inches at the base lets young kiddos in on the slide fun, too.

Another big draw for younger kids here is the Uwanja Camp water playground. Themed after an animal observation site, the play area includes three zones — Observation Station, Departure Zone and Base Camp. Each is designed for different ages, from 4 and under to 8 and up (though we've never seen older or younger kids excluded from any of the areas at this resort). The area offers a good amount of shade, water features like cannons and spitting cartoonish snakes, and spots to climb and slide.

Dining options are less extensive near this pool than at Uzima Springs, but the Maji Pool Bar serves a range of foods from hot dogs and soft pretzels to tandoori chicken and spiced pork nachos. You can also order to-go from Sanaa, Kidani Village's excellent table-service restaurant.

Related: What would happen if you let your kids plan your Disney vacation?

Best Disney World pool at a Value resort

Disney's Art of Animation Resort is home to the best Disney World pools at a Value resort.

However, rooms here are consistently the most expensive in the Value tier, so be aware of the trade-off. The "Finding Nemo"-inspired Big Blue Pool is the largest hotel pool at Walt Disney World and features giant, colorful characters from the film. The 308,527-gallon pool is zero-entry with a maximum depth of 4 feet and 11 inches.

Next to the Big Blue Pool, Schoolyard Sprayground is a spacious splash zone surrounded by more of Nemo's friends. Also nearby, Squirt's Righteous Reef offers kids a dry playground option.

When hunger strikes, the Drop Off Pool Bar serves basics like simple sandwiches, soft pretzels and frozen treats. For a more extensive selection, the resort's food court is a short walk away.

For a quieter pool nearby, head to the Cozy Cone Pool in the "Cars"-themed area of the resort, which features life-size models of favorite "Cars" characters. The pool is surrounded by Cozy Cone cabanas (first come, first served) that provide a shaded spot perfect for families with younger kids needing a nap or break from the sun while bigger kids play.

Fans of Disney's "The Little Mermaid" may want to head to the resort's third pool, the Flippin' Fins Pool.

Related: This is Disney World's most budget-friendly hotel for large families

Best Disney World pool at a Moderate resort

Aspiring swashbucklers can live out their pirate dreams at the Fuentes del Morro Pool at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort , our pick for the best pool at a Moderate resort. Designed to transport guests to a colonial Spanish fortress, this zero-entry pool has two waterslides, with the biggest stretching 102 feet and huge water cannons that give major "Pirates of the Caribbean" vibes.

Kids 48 inches or shorter can get extra pirate play in at the Fuentes del Morro Water Play Area, a kids' splash area with a pirate ship and mini slides. A 12-person hot tub offers plenty of room for relaxation, as do the resort's whopping five additional leisure pools.

At Old Port Royale, the pool is right across from Banana Cabana, the pool bar and lounge serving specialty frozen tropical drinks and Caribbean-inspired fare like coconut shrimp and jerk chicken wings. For even more dining options, Centertown Market, the resort's main quick-service location, is right next door.

Know before you go: The Fuentes del Morro Pool will be closed for routine maintenance from January to late March 2024. Guests are advised to use the resort's five leisure pools during this time.

Best Disney World pool at a Deluxe resort

The runaway favorite pool across all of Walt Disney World, Stormalong Bay at Disney's Yacht Club and Beach Club resorts is more like a mini water park.

Spanning three acres with a total of 795,000 gallons of water, the complex features a variety of pools, including a sand-bottomed pool, a 230-foot-long shipwreck-themed waterslide, a lazy river, three hot tubs and a sandbar where kids can play. The small Shipwreck Pool at the entry point of the massive waterslide also has a smaller waterslide for younger kids.

There's no arguing that Stormalong Bay offers endless aquatic entertainment. However, it can be a stressful pool option for families managing multiple children of varying abilities, and this is why Stormalong Bay isn't always our top pick for younger families. Some pools begin with a zero-entry point and reach depths of 4 feet to 5 feet, and the lazy river ranges from 6 feet to 8 feet in depth. The pool deck can get very crowded, and different areas of the deck are connected by sometimes narrow walkways and bridges, making the complex feel like a maze when you're trying to get from point A to point B quickly.

Additionally, the Shipwreck Pool and entrance to the large waterslide, which is called The Flying Jib, are outside the gated pool complex and across a wide public walkway accessible to guests not staying at the resort, so some parents may not feel comfortable letting kids go back and forth from the pool area to the waterslide alone.

But for endless aquatic entertainment, nothing beats Stormalong Bay.

The pool complex is also surrounded by top-notch dining options available to enjoy poolside. The pool bar, Hurricane Hanna's, serves a reliable lineup of appetizers, salads, sandwiches and frozen drinks, but there are also numerous dining options nearby that serve food to go, including Ale & Compass Restaurant and the Yacht Club's and Beach Club's quick-service locations, each with different menus.

For a fun table-service lunch or dinner break from the pool, make a reservation at Beaches & Cream Soda Shop, an old-fashioned diner serving up a classic menu of burgers and fries, chili-cheese tots and more, along with malted milkshakes and monstrous sundaes for dessert.

Know before you go: Stormalong Bay and the Shipwreck Pool will be closed from January through May 2025 for routine maintenance. Guests are advised to use the resort's three leisure pools during this time, so be sure to avoid this stretch if you want to visit Stormalong Bay.

Best Disney World pool for adults

For adults looking to escape the noise and splashes of a chaotic feature pool, the many leisure pools at Walt Disney World resorts offer great alternatives. However, some of them can be somewhat secluded and out of the way of dining options. If you want a relaxing pool experience but don't want to be too far from the action, we have two picks for the best pool for adults.

Our first choice is the Beau Soleil Pool at Disney's Riviera Resort . This leisure pool feels quiet and secluded once you pass through the gates, but it's also right next to the resort's beautiful activity lawn and steps from the Bar Riva pool bar and Primo Piatto quick-service restaurant.

Bar Riva is one of the most beautiful open-air lounges at Walt Disney World and offers an elegant spot to take a break from the pool for Mediterranean fare and drinks. We recommend the mushroom arancini and a glass of Provence frose.

Also, unlike many other leisure pools that sometimes attract families because they offer a closer option than the resort's feature pool, Riviera's impressive main pool, which includes an excellent splash pad for kids, is just across the lawn.

Our other favorite pool for adults is the Oasis Pool at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort .

As the resort's leisure pool, the Oasis Pool tends to attract a more grown-up crowd than the nearby Lava Pool with its enticing volcano, waterfall, kids play area and 142-foot waterslide. The Oasis Pool also has its own pool bar, the Oasis Bar & Grill, so you don't have to leave the pool area to enjoy dishes like wonton chips and fish tacos, specialty cocktails, beer, soft drinks and more.

Best Disney World pool splurge

For the most luxurious poolside experience, private poolside cabanas are available for daily rental at three of Walt Disney World's Deluxe resorts: Disney's Contemporary Resort , Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and Disney's Yacht Club and Beach Club resorts .

These private, shaded spaces accommodate up to six guests and come equipped with plush furniture, ceiling fans and varying entertainment options like Bluetooth speakers, TVs and charging stations.

Complimentary refreshments, including fresh fruit, soda and water, are also provided, as well as sunscreen and skincare products and a safe. Booking is only open to guests of each respective resort. Pricing starts at $350, and amenities and services, like cocktail service to the cabana, vary slightly by resort. Book by calling 407-939-7529.

Disney's Polynesian Village Resort also offers a lower-priced option that still provides shade and privacy. Oasis Patios are at the resort's Oasis leisure pool and accommodate up to six guests with a dedicated shaded spot near the pool, furnished with cushioned lounge chairs and plush towels. Oasis Patios start at just over $100 and are available first come, first served or by advance reservation by calling 407-939-7529.

Best Disney World hot tubs

At the height of summer in Central Florida, a hot tub might not top your list of ways to relax on your Walt Disney World vacation, but temperatures can really dip during the winter and in the evenings at certain times of the year. All Moderate and Deluxe resorts have hot tubs, but some rise above the rest.

One of the prettiest hot tubs with the best views is at the Lava Pool at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort. It has an infinity edge and offers views of Seven Seas Lagoon and even the fireworks over Cinderella Castle in the evenings. Be warned, this hot tub is definitely not a well-kept secret — it can get quite crowded, especially in the evenings.

For more room, The Dig Site, the expansive pool complex at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort, is home to Walt Disney World's largest hot tub, accommodating up to 22 people.

For a more secluded soak, Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge hot tubs are tucked away in spots slightly separated from the hustle and bustle of the main pools.

And if you're looking for a serious splurge, you can have your own hot tub if you book one of the Copper Creek cabins .

Best Disney World splash pads

Kids love a water playground, and parents love a break from keeping kids entertained in the pool. These top water play areas are so good the hardest part for parents may be getting kids to leave.

Disney's Polynesian Village Resort

Situated next to the Lava Pool, the Polynesian's water playground for kids under 48 inches is one of Walt Disney World's most elaborate.

Water features throughout the multilevel structure include spitting tikis, spraying spouts, erupting water geysers, two mini slides and plenty of stairs to climb and bridges to cross to keep kids busy. Just beware if you have kids on either side of the 48-inch maximum height restriction — this is one time older siblings could find themselves wishing they hadn't hit that height marker yet.

Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

This "Alice in Wonderland"-themed splash pad includes mini waterslides, sprinklers and water spouts. Overhead, the Mad Hatter's hat and a giant teapot periodically fill with water then soak everyone in striking distance. Within minutes, your kids will be saying, "We're all wet here."

Disney's Riviera Resort

Reminiscent of Europe's majestic public fountains, S'il Vous Play is a beautiful "Fantasia"-themed water play area with two waterslides and lots of interactive water features.

Best Disney World waterslide

The Luna Park Pool at Disney's BoardWalk Inn is a whimsical homage to the amusement park attractions found along the turn-of-the-century boardwalks in places like Atlantic City and Coney Island. The piece de resistance is the 200-foot waterslide, which resembles a classic wooden roller coaster. The pool bar, Leaping Horse Libations, looks like a carousel, adding to the classic theme park feel of the pool area.

The huge Keister Coaster waterslide used to be known for the iconically creepy giant clown head at its base. Sadly (for those of us who love the BoardWalk's quirky theming), the clown was removed in 2020 and replaced with two-dimensional artwork of Mickey and friends.

The slide remains at the top of the list, though. Although Stormalong Bay's Flying Jib slide is slightly longer, we prefer the Keister Coaster for ease of re-riding without having to leave the pool complex. For the same reason, parents will also find it much easier to keep an eye on kiddos here.

COMMENTS

  1. Disney's Polynesian vs Yacht Club

The Polynesian vs Yacht Club. Let's begin by discussing the different room types for both the Polynesian and the Yacht Club. Resort Type. Both of these resorts are considered to be "Deluxe Resorts" by Disney's standards. In short, this means they are considered to be in the "best of the best" that Disney has to offer when it comes to things like amenities offered to guests.

  2. Head to Head: Disney's Polynesian Resort or the Yacht Club?

Pools. It's not really fair to ask any resort pool to compete with Stormalong Bay, the shared pool area of the Yacht and Beach Club resorts. But, if any resort's pool offerings could, it's the Polynesian. The lava pool has a zero-entry section, a fun (quick) water slide, nightly fireworks viewing, and a lively atmosphere.

Jul 3, 2014. Dec 23, 2018. #3. Poly and YC are in my top 3 favorite resorts (Poly is my fav), but they are very different. Given everything you describe, I vote YC. It has a 'slightly' more upscale/adult vibe fitting for a honeymoon (in my opinion) and will be a nice contrast to the Bahamas portion of your trip.

  6. Disney's Polynesian Resort (Honest Review)

Disney's Polynesian Village Resort seemed to have it all - Hawaiian theming, an elaborate pool, and a premium location near Magic Kingdom. 8. Yacht Club vs. Polynesian

The yacht and beach club resorts are really classy. Forget transportation, you know you can get anywhere on the property relatively quickly. The polynesian is definetly nice, but I think the yacht and beach club have it beat. The pool is awesome, like a water park and they have beaches and cream soda shop. I could live there.
