Run by a range of different empires through the ages, and only Greek for the last 150 years, the Ionian island of Corfu may well have Greek as its main language, but its culture and history is very much its own. One of the oldest holiday destinations for British package holidaymakers, and dominated by that empire for many years, a Brit will feel very at home here! That said, so will Italians, with the Venetian empire running it for centuries before... Many say that its beautiful beaches are some of the very best in Greece, and this in turn has helped Corfu become such a successful holiday destination.

The Ionian Islands differ from the other Greek islands - the Dodecanese Islands, Saronic Islands, Sporades Island and other Aegean Islands - thanks to their location. On the surface the Ionian Sea has a different temperament with the Bora winds being gentler during the sailing season, but the geography has meant that they have different histories. The Dodecanese Islands are just off the Turkish coast and have been a flashpoint between Turkey and Greece since pre-Ottoman times. This has impacted their foods, cultures and histories in different ways.

Corfu Island is one of the seven Ionian Islands on the calm and beautiful Ionian Sea. Possibly based at the island's main Gouvia Marina on Gouvia Bay, your boat charter will likely take you on to see smaller islands such as Paxos Island and Antipaxos, or larger ones like Lefkada and Kefalonia as you explore the region on your luxury yacht charter.

On a Corfu catamaran charter you can explore as much or as little as you want. Perhaps a sandy beach or two for swimming out of the sight of others is your thing? A week or two Greek island hopping will show you many such opportunities, while those who want to use their luxury yacht as a party base to hit the tavernas with a vengeance will have plenty of room for that! Your Greece yacht charter opens the doors to it all!

Crewed Catamaran Charters from Corfu

You don't need to worry about being an experienced sailor or even sailing the boat out of Corfu with Borrow a Boat! A Corfu crewed catamaran charter on a motor yacht or sailing catamaran can mean you do as much or as little physically sailingthe yacht as you like on your yacht charter holiday.

A skippered yacht charter or will mean that the skipper will be aboard with their own cabin to attend to all your needs. A crewed yacht charter or gulet charter will involve one or two crew on the gulet charter who will cook, sail and make suggestions as to your best destinations on your sailing itinerary. With their local knowledge, even if you're an experienced sailor you can enjoy a perfect yacht charter holiday.

One of the advantages of a crewed yacht charter holiday is that you can go longer distances from the yacht charter base. The Saronic Islands are within reach on a two week sailing trip, as is Athens and indeed the Cyclades.

As to you? You can just enjoy the breezes and views on your luxury yacht charter, or if you fancy learning a bit about sailing, help the skipper or crew to get the boat from A-B.

A Corfu crewed yacht charter will cost a little more (typically €150 a day for a skipper and €100 per crew member) and it's the done thing to thank them with a tip at the end of the week.

Bareboat Catamaran Charter From Corfu

A bareboat yacht charter holiday will mean that you can take the charter yacht out on your own. Generally for vessels up to 20 metres LOA on a sailing license such as an RYA Day Skipper or ASA 104 Bareboat certificate, you will have total responsibility for the yacht.

You will need to think about your itinerary, victualling, possible secondary ports should a marina be full, as well as issues like weather and mooring fees.

On a bareboat catamaran charter you will be asked to pay for insurance in the form of a security deposit to the chartercompany on departure or through buying charter insurance before you leave the yacht charter base.

Types of Catamarans Available For Rent Or Charter In Corfu:

When searching a geographical area on Borrow A Boat you can filter by the below charter yacht types. There is also the option to further filter your searches by price, the number of guests, cabins or bathrooms, what year the catamaran was launched, the boat length and the boat manufacturer.

Types of Catamarans Available:

Sailing Catamarans: Luxury catamarans are stable and spacious type of sailing boat, with quick sailing performance, and and have been gaining in popularity in recent years. Better for larger groups, they have lots of room for water toys, and are big enough for a little privacy. A catamaran charter luxury yacht is easy and comfortable for novices not used to heeling and are loved by families due to their extra space when compared to a monohull sailing yacht. Typically far more luxurious than a sailboat, the larger catamarans have en suite toilets and showers in the cabin as well as ample entertaining space in the saloon and on deck.

Power Catamarans: These motor yacht catamarans are relatively new but have also been gaining in popularity as the two hulls keep the boat more stable when compared to a monohull. The wider beam of these motor boats also mean more deck space and as they don't have sails or a mast, they have a lot more space on deck than a sailingcatamaranrental or monohull. For a luxury catamaran charter, consider taking a crewed catamaran charter sailingvacation with an experienced skipper.

Catamaran Sailing Itineraries From Corfu

On your Corfu crewed catamaran boat rental or bareboat charter sailing holiday you can explore the Ionian Islands and even via the Corinth Canal, on to the Saronic Gulf. Here we suggest a 7 day sailing holiday and a 14 day yacht charterholiday on your charter boat:

7 days - Gouvia Marina - Ionian Islands: Over a week's boat charter you can get as far south as Zakynthos. Pause at one of the smaller islands of Paxos Island and Antipaxos on the way south (and perhaps the other coming back north) and then sample the sights and sounds of Lefkada, and Ithaca on the way south, before spending a day or so exploring Zakynthos and then back via Kafalonia on the way north. Back to Marina Gouvia for handover.

14 days - Corinth Canal and Saronic Gulf: Covering well over 250NM on this sailing holiday, this might be one for a crewed yacht charter to allow for night passages as you go. You will island hop the Ionian Island chain and then head into the Gulf of Corinth, getting to see one of the most spectacular marine shortcuts of the world in the Corinth Canal. From here you can explore either the Saronic islands of Aegina and Salamina or sail into Athens on mainland Greece. Return, enjoying the longer passages on the Aegean Sea and then Ionian Sea as you take in Greece in all of its colours, sights and subcultures.

Do You Need A Licence To Charter A Catamaran In Corfu?

If you are on a skippered catamaran charter you do not need a license to sail out of Corfu, you can just turn up at the marina and go.

You do need a license if you are on a bareboat catamaran charter and in some countries such as Greece a day skipper or ICC may not be enough for boats over 45 feet in length, you will need to check with the charter agent but here are some examples of typical sailing qualifications that will allow you to charter in most countries:

International Certificate of Competence: This is issued on request by your European sailing authority and you should automatically qualify with certain national sailing qualifications.

RYA Qualifications: If you have the following qualifications you will typically be able to take a bareboat charter out of Rhodes (but it is worth checking as per above), these include Day Skipper (sail or motor endorsement), Coastal Skipper or Yachtmaster.

American Sailing Association (ASA): The ASA 104 Bareboat certificate is commonly accepted but also check as per above

US Sailing : The International Proficiency Certificate is widely accepted and The Bareboat Cruising Certificate is also accepted in many cases.

Catamaran rental in corfu.

While there are so many gorgeous islands to visit in Greece, Corfu just might be one of the most beautiful. The charming island is a favourite destination for lovers, as its mansions, palaces and pristine beaches create a romantic atmosphere. As you tour Corfu you’ll see that it has a rich past, with influences from French, English and Venetian cultures that have shaped the island’s architecture. With a catamaran rental in Corfu, you can sail along the Ionian sea, and discover secret beaches, blue lagoons and quaint villages peppered along the coastline.

How much does a Corfu catamaran charter cost?

The price of a catamaran rental in Corfu will vary depending on the time of year, how many people are on board and the size and type of catamaran that you choose. You should also be aware that the price of a skippered catamaran will typically be more expensive than one without. Taking everything into consideration, the average price of a catamaran charter in Corfu is €7,750/week in high season and €2,900/week in low season for 10 people on board.

What is the best time of year to rent a catamaran in Corfu?

The best time to visit Corfu is from May to October when you will have a warm, pleasant temperature and little to no precipitation, perfect weather for sailing! For the hottest air and water temperatures, you should aim to visit in August when you’ll have average highs of 29°C. However, it’s important to be aware that the summer months are the high tourist season in Greece, which means that prices of catamarans will be higher and there will be more crowds. If you want better deals on boats and fewer crowds, we recommend a catamaran rental in Corfu in either May or September, at the tail ends of the high season.

Should you opt for a catamaran charter with or without a skipper?

If you have a licence to sail and you prefer to be the captain of your own vessel, then go for it! We’ve got plenty of options for a catamaran rental without a skipper in our Corfu fleet. Catamarans are also double-hulled, which means they are very stable on the water and relatively easy to navigate, even if you don’t have much sailing experience. However, if you want the most relaxing holiday possible, we always recommend chartering a skippered vessel. Skippers are your nautical guides who will handle the sailing logistics and show you all of the hidden gems on the island. For a more customised sailing excursion in the safest hands, rent a catamaran in Corfu with a skipper!

What can you see and do on a Corfu catamaran rental?

Here are some of our favourite things to see and do on the island of Corfu that the whole family can enjoy!

  • Swim in the glimmering waters of Timoni Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches on the island.
  • Take a day trip to Paxos Island where you’ll see the lush rows of olive groves and get the opportunity to get acquainted with the friendly monk seals that live in the Blue Caves. While there, go snorkelling in Paradise Beach!
  • Explore Corfu Old Town and see the highlights like the Old Fortress and the Church of St. Spyridon.
  • See the colourful marine life while snorkelling in the Blue Lagoon, one of the finest in the world.
  • Discover the secluded bays of Parga.
  • Scuba dive in the reef, and unearth the underwater world!
  • Go kayaking in the Sivota Islands and navigate the narrow channels before relaxing on the powderlike sands of the beaches.

Corfu is the perfect destination to set sail from when you begin your catamaran adventure in Greece . With its crystal clear waters and lovely weather all year round, Corfu is basically a sailing paradise.

There are many beautiful islands and coastal communities to explore on a catamaran and the sailing between the various destinations is idyllic. Corfu's east coast offers calm waters for swimming and a species-rich seabed that is perfect for exploring via diving and snorkelling.

But before you cast off from the quay and begin your sailing, don't miss out on exploring Corfu Town and all that there is to see there. The old town of Corfu, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is stunningly beautiful!

Palaces, forts and quaint old buildings intertwine naturally with washing lines hanging between the buildings. Another attraction in the city is Spianada, the largest square in the Balkans! The old and new forts are two sights not to be missed either!

How much does it cost to rent a catamaran in Corfu?

Like most boat rentals, the price of your rental depends on the time of year, the duration of your rental and the size, age and model of the catamaran you rent. If you are renting your catamaran in the summer, during the high season, it will be more expensive than in the low season.

But of course, the weather will then be at its best. If you rent your catamaran during the low season, the weather will be colder and it is unlikely that you will be able to spend time sunbathing and the seas will also be cooler. However, the streets will be a lot quieter, the beaches more empty and the price of your rental much lower. The beauty of renting a catamaran for a group is that the price is split between you and can often result in a great price for such an experience at sea.

During the high season, you can expect to pay $5,600 for a catamaran that sleeps up to 10 people for a week. That comes down to around $560 per person per week.

To rent a boat in the low season, the same catamaran would only cost you $2,710 per week. That means only $271 per person for a week, or less than $40 per person per day.

These prices are just a guide and so you can expect them to be more expensive if you are renting a larger or more luxurious catamaran and to be slightly cheaper if you a renting a smaller one. With Click&Boat, you can talk to one of our personal advisors who will listen to your requirements and find you the perfect boat for the best price.

Where to sail from Corfu

A catamaran is the perfect boat for cruising between the islands around Corfu while enjoying your Greece yacht charter. But which destinations should you visit and which routes are recommended?

Corfu Town is a great place to dock, as the town's marina is located right by the old Venetian castle. To get in and out of the harbour, walk via the fort and cross the large bridge over the moat.

In the evening, head into town to eat at one of the many fantastic restaurants in town and explore the city's nightlife.

Sailing a few miles south from Corfu Town, you'll come to the charming fishing village of Petriti. It's one of the few places on the island with a sandy beach, and the clear, shallow waters make it ideal for anchoring for snorkelling, canoeing and paddleboarding. The village also has authentic seafood restaurants where you can enjoy local freshly caught fish.

Leaving the island of Corfu by catamaran and starting your cruise between the Ionian islands, Paxos is an idyllic island to land on, located just south of Corfu. Paxos is certainly one of the highlights of your Ionian sailing trip.

It is a picturesque little island whose coastline is filled with beautiful vegetation. There are four ports on the island, Lakka, Gaios, Longos and Mongonisi, all of which are great for mooring.

Sailing just over ten miles east from Paxos, you'll reach Parga, located on the Greek mainland. Unfortunately, Parga has no marina to moor in, but a good alternative is the port of Valtos, which is right next door.

You can also anchor just outside Parga if you have a dinghy to get you ashore. The town is a lively coastal community with bars, tavernas and restaurants. In the western part of the village, you can also check out the beautiful Venetian castle that overlooks the village.

Sivota Mourtos

Following the coastline north, you'll soon reach Sivota Mourtos, an authentic, relaxing fishing village. Mooring in the village is no problem either as you can anchor directly at the village quay.

In the village, you'll find nice bars and restaurants and the town is also surrounded by beautiful beaches where you can sunbathe and swim. If you're travelling with children, the water park at Monastery Bay is also a hot tip.

If you're travelling with the family, Dassia is the perfect place to stop, a quiet coastal community, but definitely not boring. The beach in Dassia is a perfect place to spend an afternoon with the family, and the beach has even been awarded a Blue Flag for its exceptional cleanliness.

If you're keen on shopping, the beach promenade in Dassia is perfect, as you can find the best souvenirs and handicrafts from Corfu here.

Which ports are the boats in?

The main port in Corfu is Gouvia Marina, and it is also where Click&Boat has the majority of its boats.

Gouvia Marina is located just north of Corfu Town and has all the facilities you could need, including a large supermarket so you can stock up before you set out. Other ports around the island where Click&Boat also has boats are Kommeno, Paleokastritsa and Issos beach.

Catamaran rental with skipper

Don't have the required license to sail in Greece or feel complicated manoeuvring a catamaran all by yourself? With Click&Boat you can easily solve this dilemma the majority of our catamarans can be rented with skipper.

When you rent a catamaran with skipper, it takes care of the sailing completely and so you can relax completely and enjoy the surroundings with family and friends. The skippers often know the surrounding area well and can give you tips on the best beaches and harbours.

When is the best time to visit Corfu?

The best periods for a boating holiday in Corfu are from April to May or from September to November. Although it never gets really cold in the Mediterranean, the winter months are still too cold to enjoy sunbathing and swimming on Corfu's beaches. During the hottest summer months, however, there is a risk of being overcrowded with tourists.

Corfu Weather Forecast

Corfu sailing holidays: popular questions answered., how much is it to charter a yacht in corfu.

This depends on the dates you choose for your sailing holiday and, of course, the size and type of the boat. Typically, a yacht charter in June will cost approximately 3,000 EUR plus obligatory extras on a 3-cabin monohull and 5,000 EUR plus obligatory extras on a 40 ft. catamaran. Prices tend to be lower in April and May and higher during the peak season (July & August). The end of September and October is also a period when you can take advantage of lower prices. Other than the boat price, you should also consider the obligatory cleaning. That would be around 200 EUR for a monohull depending on its size and 300 EUR for a catamaran, also depending on its size. Provisioning, mooring fees and fuel are to be covered by the charterer. For more details about yacht charter options in Corfu, please contact our team at [email protected]

Is Corfu good for sailing?

Corfu is a perfect starting point for a sailing holiday and one of the most in-demand sailing grounds in Greece. Ideal for beginner sailors or those looking for a mile-building trip in mild wind and sea conditions, the North Ionian is known for the abundance of anchorages and easy line of sight navigation.

What is the best month to sail in Corfu?

If you are not restricted by school holidays, we would recommend chartering in June. You can expect warm and mostly sunny weather conditions, with the perk of avoiding the crowds of peak season. Prices are also much more attractive during early summer.

What qualifications do you need to sail in Corfu, Greece?

For a bareboat charter in Greece, only one licensed person is required on board. A co-skipper with sailing experience is desired. As there is no specific list of accepted licences issued by the Greek authorities, we would recommend sharing a copy of your sailing licence with us in advance so we can check and advise accordingly.

Is the sea in Corfu warm?

The sea in Corfu remains quite warm year-round with peak temperatures at times reaching 30 °C in August. You can expect 20-25 °C from May until October.

What sea is Corfu in?

Corfu or Kerkyra as the Greeks call her, is one of the main islands of the Ionian Sea and part of the Heptanese. She is located in the Northern part of the Ionian, close to the Albanian coast.

How long should a Corfu sailing holiday be?

It is important to keep in mind that yacht charters in Corfu are offered on a weekly basis from Saturday to Saturday. That means, you can book your sailing holiday for 7,14, 21 days and so on. In rare cases, during low season you may be able to find a boat available with a different turnaround day or for a shorter duration. Please contact our team at [email protected] for more information.

When does the sailing season in Corfu start and end?

Corfu, same as the rest of Greece, has a standard “Mediterranean climate”. Therefore, the sailing season spans from April to October with the high season being during the main summers months of July & August.

Why visit Corfu?

Corfu is a top holiday destination – both for sailing and land based holidays. Around the island you will be stunned by the beautiful scenery blending greens and blues as the cliffs reach down to the emerald waters. Corfu is also an island rich with history and multi-cultural influence. Don’t miss a visit to the old town and a walk through the old fortress, Spianada and Liston square. Achilleion palace is also one of the island’s highlights built by Empress Elisabeth of Austria (known as ‘Sissi’) in 1890. Are you a fan of tasting local food and drinks during your travels? Try the famous limoncello and kumquat liqueurs.

Which is the closest island to Corfu?

Two islands closest to Corfu that we would definitely recommend including in your sailing holiday itinerary, are Paxos and Antipaxos. In Paxos, you can either anchor in the pristine, emerald bay of Lakka or the more cosmopolitan Gaios port – these locations are very close to each other so you can also visit both in one day. In Antipaxos you will be amazed by the crystal clear, turquoise waters of the famous Voutoumi beach; the sea the is so clear that boats look as if they are floating on air.

How long does it take to sail from Corfu to Lefkada?

One-way charters between Corfu and Lefkas are often an option during the beginning or end of the season when the need arises for a yacht to be relocated. These are usually offered without an extra fee and oftentimes with generous discounts. If you request a one-way charter in the middle of the season, you should expect to be asked to pay a one-way fee covering the cost for the yacht to return to the home port.

Sailing from Corfu to Lefkada takes about 10 – 15  hours non-stop. This, of course, depends on the type and size of the boat and the prevailing weather conditions.

Sailing Holidays In Corfu

Corfu – Κέρκυρα – Kerkira is the northest and most important of the Ionian Islands, and is situated only 1 nm away from the coast of Albania and the Greek region of Epirus (mainland Greece). It houses one of the main charter bases for most yacht charter companies, and offers gentle green uplands in the south and rugged limestone hills in the north, rising to 911 m in the double peak of Pantokrator.

Lefkimmi port, is 24 nmi from Paxi, just “around the corner” you will Benitses, where you can moor, and enjoy the local tavernas and amenities. Later on, you can sail towards the famous Pontikonisi(in English “Mouse Island”), and then towards the Old Fort, where there is a marina. You can spend some time admiring the old town of Corfu before heading to the main port where the ferries and cruiseboats dock. Finally, in Gouvia Marina, the first private marina in Greece, you can find a place among more than 1.200 boats, while being close to the airport in case it is your “end station”.

History of Corfu

Τhe present name of the island is believed to derive from the Greek “Koryphi” (meaning “Peak”), which was its name during the medieval period.

From 1386 to 1797 Corfu was held by Venice, thereafter it was briefly part of the Napoleonic empire; and in 1815, along with the rest of the Ionian islands, it was assigned to Britain. It was reunited with Greece in 1864. In the course of its eventful history the island was frequently devastated and plundered, fact that resulted into preserving few relics of ancient or medieval times.

The island’s capital, Corfu (Kerkira), is beautifully situated on a promontory on the east coast, dominated by the Neo Frourio (New Fortress). The ancient city is farther south. Corfu is the seat of both a Greek Orthodox and a Roman Catholic archbishop.

Ports and Local Amenities

The old harbour of Corfu just east of the customs harbour, has the best shelter for the prevailing northwest winds.

Gouvia marina is a major base for skippered, crewed and bareboat yacht charters in the north Ionian sea. The other bases are Lefkas and Preveza, further south.

Gaios is the principal port of Paxos Island. On the islets off the harbour are a Venetian fort and the former Monastery of the Panayia. You can moor right in the middle of the busy touristy scenery of this charming place.

Near Corfu you will find the westernmost place in Greece and largest of the Diapontian Islands, the island of Othoni. There you can discover picturesque villages and ruined Venetian castles, definitely worth visiting.

Paleokastritsa – on the West side of Corfu Island – is a lively and attractive tourist resort dominated by the Monastery of Panayia Theotokos on a high crag. Near the village there are seacaves. From here it is a 1.5 hours climb (with guide; stout footwear required) to the ruined Angelokastro Castle ( with lovely panoramic views). Lots of caves can be reached by tender or RIB.

For those pursuing scenery views, you can climb to the summit of Mount Pantokrator to enjoy the beautiful view of the surroundings and an abandoned monastery of 1347.

The village of Kondokali – adjacent to Gouvia – is nowadays more German or English than Greek. Fortunately, the facilities are excellent. Gouvia is located 5 nm north of Corfu town and features a Venetian arsenal of 1716.

From the harbour you can either go towards the east, passing by the old royal palace, or south-east along Odos Nikiforou, the town’s busy main road.

An attractive excursion from Corfu town is to the villa of Akhillion, 16 km to the south. This Italian Renaissance style villa, situated on an altitude of 145 m, has magnificent gardens and boasts panoramic views. Three kilometres further south, is the charming fishing village of Benitses and its remains of a Roman villa.

The Corfu Yacht Club is usually for member only, but the smaller Naok Yacht Club at the other side of Cape Sidhero has a few berths for visitors.

New to charter?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is due at the time of the final charter payment. Under MYBA terms, this sum is usually equivalent to 30 per cent of the total charter fee, but may be up to 40 per cent in some cases.

Intended to cover the operating expenses of a charter as explained under Charter Terms, such as fuel, food, drinks, port fees and ad hoc incidentals, the APA will be given to the captain before the start of your charter. The Captain will ensure that the yacht is fully fuelled and provisioned when you step on board. While an up-to-date summary of accounts can be requested at any time during your charter, a full set of accounts will normally be submitted by your captain at the end of the cruise. If, during the charter, the expenditure exceeds the sum already paid, additional cash funds will be required at once.

All outstanding bills from the yacht charter should be settled in cash or by bank transfer before your final disembarkation. Of course, any remaining credit at the end of your charter will be reimbursed to you in full. On request, transfer arrangements to and from the yacht can be made by Burgess or by the yacht’s captain, payment for which will be deducted from your APA.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should i consider when hiring a catamaran.

The main points to consider are what is your budget, have you got the necessary sailing experience and qualifications to manage the boat if it's not going to have a skipper, whom you are taking sailing, where exactly you wish to go and what will the weather be like on the proposed dates of your trip.

Do you have to pay a deposit when hiring a Catamaran in Corfu?

You will typically pay 50% up front on booking the catamaran hire and the balance on arrival. You will either pay a security deposit with your credit card on departure or can get insurance covering damage in advance. In some cases (such as the recent Covid situation) charter companies may be more flexible but this depends on the individual chartercompanies themselves.

If you are at sea and in danger, call MAYDAY on VHF Ch16 or ring the coast guard on your phone if you have reception. If you have a mechanical fault and can make it to or are on a mooring you will be able to phone a help line number given by the boat charter company and they can typically send someone from the charter base

You should consider do you have the experience to handle the catamaran before you book and where do you want to go along with what the weather will be like. Bring warm weather and cool weather clothing if it looks like the weather can be cool as well as warm and remember at sea it can be cool in the evenings.

If you want to sail without a skipper then you will need relevant qualifications like RYA Day Skipper/International Certificate of Competence (ICC)/ASA 104 Bareboat certificate or the US Sailing Certificate. If you choose to have a skipper on board your catamaran you won't require licences.

Below you will find some useful information for your catamaran rentals in Corfu.

Marina Gouvia has a large berthing capacity of 1400 yachts. Very well-maintained sowers, toilets, and provisioning for all kinds of yachts with expert staff.

Petriti Corfu : A fishing harbor with excellent restaurants aside. Great for overnight moorings for catamarans. Has a large variety of services for customers including water, electricity and overall offers good protection for most directions (except the SW that can lead to a swell inside).

Port Lakka- Paxos :  a beautiful village, but the bay can get very busy during the high season since lots of yachts cross from Corfu to Lefkada. The shelter is good in most conditions, but anchoring is perfect. Lots of great tavernas and restaurants with typical Greek cuisine.

Port Gaios- Paxos : the main harbor of the island of Paxos, during the high season it gets crammed with day-trippers from Corfu. The shelter in the harbor is excellent in most conditions, the S part of the harbor can get a little uncomfortable due to strong winds, however.

How to get to Corfu

From mainland Greece, the easiest way to get to Corfu is by ferry from the port of Igoumenitsa in Epirus. The port of Igoumenitsa is located on the west coast of Greece, close to the border with Albania and 78 km from the city of Ioannina. The drive from Igoumenitsa will take less than 2 hours.

If you are coming from northern Greece, the Egnatia freeway has significantly shortened the route, and the trip Thessaloniki – Igoumenitsa lasts only 3 hours and the trip Ioannina – Igoumenitsa just 45 minutes.

The Intercity Ktel of Corfu connects the island to Athens (8 hours till Igoumenitsa) and Thessaloniki (6 hours) with daily schedules 2-3 times a day.

Airport: The Corfu International Airport Ioannis Kapodistrias is situated 4 km south of the center of the city. The flight lasts less than an hour from Athens and there are multiple flights. Other charter flights are available during the summer months (mainly from Germany and England)
