About the Rolex Yacht-Master Collection
The Rolex Yacht-Master is one of the brand’s youngest collections, having been introduced only 1992. And yet, it’s already one of their most diverse, with two distinct models under the family of watches, and dozens of permutations when it comes to dial designs, bezel styles, and bracelet options.
A look into its history shows that Rolex had plans for a yacht-themed watch decades before the Yacht-Master line was launched. Today, it’s a mainstay in the Rolex catalog.
Here are important milestones in the Rolex Yacht-Master and Yacht-Master II history.
1958: Rolex entered a partnership with the prestigious New York Yacht Club, a social and boating club which sponsors an annual regatta.
1966: Rolex solidified its ties to the world of sailing when Francis Chichester – one of the world’s pioneering aviators and solo sailors – became the first person to sail around the globe while wearing a Rolex on his wrist. He sailed on his yacht, the Gipsy Moth IV, from August 1966 to May 1967, taking him 29,600 miles around the world.
1970s: Rolex never got around to creating a watch specifically for this category. The brand did make a prototype of the Cosmograph chronograph with the name “Yacht Master” on its dial, but they ultimately decided not to bring it to market.
1992: Rolex finally introduced the modern Yacht-Master – the brand’s first luxury sports watch built for the open seas. Whereas Rolex’s previous sports watches had utilitarian themes – the Submariner for diving, the Daytona for racing, and so on – the Yacht-Master was focused on aesthetics and luxury.
1994: Rolex introduces midsize and ladies’ models of the Yacht-Master
1996: Rolex introduces two-tone (steel and gold) midsize and ladies’ models of the Yacht-Master
1997: Rolex introduces the Rolesium version, which combines a steel body with a platinum bezel and dial. Until today the Rolesium is found exclusively in the Rolex Yacht-Master collection.
2007: Rolex releases the Yacht-Master II, which is the world’s first watch equipped with a programmable countdown timer and a mechanical memory. The Yacht-Master II was unlike anything Rolex had launched before. Not only was it massive with its 44mm case, but it also had a bold, visually striking design that stood out among Rolex’s catalog of versatile timepieces.
2019: Rolex introduces the Yacht-Master 42 to the collection. This is the first 42mm Yacht-Master model, offering a larger option for those who find 40mm too small. The first model came in 18k white gold, also a first for the collection, followed by an 18k gold version in 2022.
Key Features of the Rolex Yacht-Master
The Rolex Yacht-Master collection is composed of two families of watches: the original Yacht-Master, and the Yacht-Master II. While these two models have the same name, they are quite different from each other.
The Yacht-Master was introduced in 1992 as an ultra-luxurious sports watch for yachting and sailing enthusiasts. The nautical-inspired timepiece takes after the Rolex Submariner, but with greater emphasis on luxury materials and aesthetics.
The Yacht-Master II is a relatively new addition to the Rolex portfolio, introduced in 2007. Much larger that the Yacht-Master at 44mm, it is a purpose-built regatta watch equipped with a countdown timer for use in competitive sailing.
FEATURES OF THE ROLEX YACHTMASTER
Rolex yacht-master design.
Rolex Yacht-Master models come in an Oyster case with 100 meters of water resistance, a Triplock winding crown, and a bi-directional rotating bezel with raised 60-minute graduations and numerals. To make the watch easily readable, the dial features lume-filled round, baton, and triangular hour markers; luminous Mercedes-style hands, a date window at 3 o’clock, and a sapphire crystal with a Cyclops lens for easier reading of the date.
Since the introduction of the first all-gold Rolex Yacht-Master model in 1992, Rolex has expanded the line in terms of materials, aesthetic details, and mechanical upgrades. Here are the options available within the collection.
ROLEX YACHT-MASTER SIZES
The Yacht-Master line is one of the most varied Rolex collections due mainly to the number of sizes made available. The smaller sizes, particularly the Lady Yacht-Master models, have been discontinued, but are still available in the pre-owned market.

The Rolex Yacht-Master II is one of the brand’s largest watches. Each model comes with a 44mm Oyster case that is water resistant to 100 meters, a Triplock winding crown, a Ring Command Bezel, two chronograph pushers, and an Oyster bracelet.
It is also one of Rolex’s most complicated watches, as it features a regatta chronograph with a countdown that can be programmed from 1 to 10 minutes, allowing yacht racers to accurately time the start of a race. Furthermore, its Ring Command Bezel is more than just a decorative element – it operates in conjunction with the movement and is actually how the user can set the programmable countdown.

ROLEX YACHT-MASTER II DIALS
The Yacht-Master II dial is unlike anything seen on other Rolex models because of its niche complication. It features a countdown display which can be programmed from 1 to 10 minutes, and read using the red-tipped arrow hand. Below the hour and minute hands at the center is a running seconds sub-dial. There’s also a red central chronograph hand, which can fly back or fly-forward to its starting position while in motion. It also features 12 square lume-filled hour markers.
ROLEX YACHT-MASTER II MOVEMENTS
The Yacht-Master II is equipped with two of Rolex’s most advanced movements to date, which feature a programmable countdown timer with mechanical memory, and chronograph synchronization.
Earlier models were powered by the 4160, and later models were upgraded to the 4161. The latter is based on the Daytona’s Caliber 4130, which features the same blue Parachrom hairspring for better switch resistance, and offer a 72-hour power reserve.

Popular Rolex Yacht-Master Models
The Rolex Yacht-Master and Yacht-Master II are both excellent luxury watches that can suit any lifestyle. The Yacht-Master fits the mold of classic Rolex sports watches; while the Yacht-Master II has pushed the boundaries of what regatta watches can do. You can’t go wrong with the Rolex Yacht-Master, but here are some collector’s favorites:
ROLEX YACHT-MASTER with OYSTERFLEX BRACELET
In 2015, the Oysterflex, Rolex’s patented rubber bracelet, made its debut in the Yacht-Master collection. It’s appearance was also marked by several firsts: the first solid Everose gold Yacht-Master, paired with a matte dial and matte Cerachrom bezel.
The practical and edgy combination of solid gold and rubber continued with the release of the 18k white gold Yacht-Master 42 in 2019, and the 18k yellow gold version in 2022. This is a watch for someone who wants a luxurious watch that’s also ready for any adventure.
These models have the Calibre 3235 in place, which offers a 70-hour power reserve, and an upgraded Parachrom hairspring that has 10 times more precision than the traditional hairspring. The Calibre 3235 was also the first movement to receive Rolex’s certification as a Superlative Chronometer, and is regulated to a precision of an impressive -2/+2 seconds a day.
ROLEX YACHT-MASTER RHODIUM DIAL
The stunning combination of Oystersteel and 950 platinum was made even more beautiful with the addition of a sunburst rhodium dial. This luxurious watch is part of the series of Yachtmasters introduced in 2016, which were upgraded with the Caliber 3235 movement mentioned previously. The slate dial is paired with turquoise details on the model signature and seconds hand, which gives just the right amount of color on the sleek monochromatic design.
ROLEX YACHT-MASTER II STEEL EVEROSE GOLD
The highly specialized Yacht-Master II was created as a professional regatta watch which can also be used as a chronograph. On the bezel, it has large 0-10 scale numbers and the Yacht-Master II name. On the dial is a smaller version of this countdown. Together, these allow the wearer to select a countdown interval of anywhere from one to ten minutes.
Aside from being one of the most complicated watches in the Rolex portfolio, the Yacht-Master II also stood out because of its unique look, owing to its 44mm case and bold colors. The steel and 18k Everose gold version is a crowd favorite due to its eye-catching combination of rose gold, blue, and red hues.
Common Questions About the Rolex Yacht-Master

HOW WILL I KNOW IF MY ROLEX YACHT-MASTER IS GENUINE?
A genuine Rolex watch will be beautifully finished and decorated in keeping with the brand’s uncompromising quality standards. If you see any sign of imperfection on the watch, such as misaligned or misspelled text, unfinished surfaces, or wrong engravings and markings, it is likely a fake.
It is always advisable to do research beforehand so you can check if the details on your watch is in tune with the model’s features.
We also advise clients to only purchase a watch from a reputable and trusted dealer, who can provide a guarantee of authenticity on the watch.
IS THE ROLEX YACHT-MASTER WATERPROOF?
Rolex Yacht-Master watches are guaranteed water resistant to a depth of 100 meters of 330 feet. The collection was not made specifically for diving, but they come with screw-down crowns and case backs, which protect the movement from moisture and dust that can be encountered with sporting use.

Bidirectional rotatable bezel, timing the distance.
The Yacht-Master’s bidirectional rotatable 60-minute graduated bezel is made entirely from precious metals or fitted with a Cerachrom insert in high-tech ceramic. The raised polished numerals and graduations stand out clearly against a matt, sand-blasted background.
This functional bezel – which allows the wearer to calculate, for example, the sailing time between two buoys – is also a key component in the model’s distinctive visual identity.
Chocolate Dial
Exceptional legibility.
Like all Rolex Professional watches, the Yacht-Master 37 offers exceptional legibility in all circumstances, and especially in the dark, thanks to its Chromalight display.
The broad hands and hour markers in simple shapes – triangles, circles, rectangles – are filled with a luminescent material emitting a long-lasting glow.
Everose Rolesor
A meeting of two metals.
Gold is coveted for its lustre and nobility. Steel reinforces strength and reliability. Together, they harmoniously combine the best of their properties.
A true Rolex signature, Rolesor has featured on Rolex models since the early 1930s, and was trademarked as a name in 1933. It is one of the prominent pillars of the Oyster collection.
The Oyster bracelet
Alchemy of form and function.
The Oyster bracelet is a perfect alchemy of form and function, aesthetics and technology, designed to be both robust and comfortable. It is equipped with an Oysterlock folding clasp, which prevents accidental opening and the Easylink comfort extension link, also exclusive to Rolex.
This ingenious system allows the wearer to increase the bracelet length by approximately 5 mm, providing additional comfort in any circumstance.

Watches In The Wild The Road Through America, Episode 1: A Model Of Mass Production
There is big news, and there is Rolex big news, and in some ways, ne'er the twain shall meet. At Baselworld this year, Rolex debuted a first for the company: the very first, ever, Rolex delivered on a rubber strap. Now, for most companies this would have little effect on watch enthusiasts other than to evoke (very) tepid interest at best, and boredom at worst – but this is not an ordinary rubber strap, this is an official, designed-and-tested-and-thoroughly-obsessed-over-by-Rolex rubber strap. And thereby hangs a tale.
The Yachtmaster, as we have mentioned in some of our previous coverage , occupies a somewhat particular place in Rolex’s lineup of sports watches; it shares water-resistance and a turning bezel with the Submariner (the latter is water resistant to 300 m while the Yachtmaster standard model is water resistant to 100 m). It is certainly not a tool watch; the Yachtmaster is offered in either platinum and steel, or gold and steel (that’s Rolesium and Rolesor, lest we forget) and is either quietly or unequivocally luxurious depending on what size and metal you go for (Rolex makes the Yachtmaster in both 35 mm and 40 mm sizes).
The Yachtmaster’s history goes back to the first introduction of the watch in 1992, although the name, interestingly enough, appears on the dial of a prototype Yachtmaster Chronograph from the late 1960s (a watch so legendary I am actually forced to use the word; one of three known is in the collection of Mr. John Goldberger; we covered it – and a host of other remarkable ultra-rare watches from his collection – in a very memorable episode of Talking Watches ).
The term “Yachtmaster” is also, incidentally, used for a certificate of competency in yachting which is issued by the Royal Yachting Association, although we’re unaware of any specific association between the RYA and the Yachtmaster watch.
Now, this newest version of the Yachtmaster does take a few pages from the existing Yachtmaster playbook: 100-meter water resistance, a bidirectional turning bezel, and a dial and hands that echo the Submariner. There are also a couple of features that may make vintage Sub enthusiasts wonder if Rolex mightn’t have an exceedingly subtle sense of humor; the gilt coronet and “Rolex,” and the red lettering, both features which according to HODINKEE founder Ben Clymer would have, had they appeared on a Rolex dive watch, made it instantly the single most popular watch in the modern Rolex inventory. The case is rose gold – Rolex famously makes their own, called Everose, in their own foundry, with a bit of platinum mixed in to prevent discoloration – and the bezel, rather than being some other precious metal (as is the case in the “standard” Yachtmasters) is in black Cerachrom – a very technical-looking matte black that contrasts sharply with the gold case. Somehow, between the rose gold, the Cerachrom bezel, and the new Oysterflex bracelet this manages to be the most luxurious and at the same time most technical Yachtmaster yet (leaving aside the Yachtmaster II, which we recently reviewed right here , but that is a watch that marches to the beat of a different drummer entirely).
The two different versions of the Everose Yachtmaster (40 mm and 37 mm) sport different movements; the larger uses the caliber 3135 and the smaller, the newer 2236, which sports the “Syloxi” silicon balance spring (first used by Rolex in 2014).
The Oysterflex bracelet is, in a nutshell, quite a piece of work. One of the most endearing traits of Rolex as a company is that it tends to demonstrate what we can only describe as a laudable degree of corporate obsessive-compulsive disorder when it comes to research and development, and it does so, often, without making any sort of fanfare about it at all. In this case we do know a little bit about the Oysterflex, however – it is basically designed to have the hypoallergenic and comfort properties of a rubber strap and the durability and shape-retention properties of a bracelet.
At the core of the Oysterflex bracelet are metal inserts made of titanium and nickel, which are used to affix the bracelet to the clasp and watch case; over those is a sheathing of “high-performance black elastomer.” “Elastomer” is a portmanteau word, formed from “elastic” and “polymer” and is a general term for natural and synthetic rubbers. In addition to the materials complexity of the Oysterflex bracelet, it is also shaped in a rather unusual fashion – there are ridges molded into the the wristward face of the bracelet, which are intended to allow the bracelet when worn to better approximate the natural curvature of the wrist.
They might look a bit odd but in practice, the design works out quite wonderfully; this is easily the most downright comfortable and organic-feeling rubber strap I have ever worn, and like the entire watch manages to be both extremely technical in feel, and very luxurious at the same time; I doubt whether any company has ever taken so much trouble over the design of a strap (for all that Rolex prefers the term “bracelet” in describing the Oysterflex, habit dies hard and you’ll probably find yourself calling it a strap, just as we did). On the wrist, the two stabilizing ridges do exactly what they are supposed to: keep the watch from shifting, as heavier watches on rubber straps are wont to do, without requiring you to have the strap uncomfortably tight. The Everose Oysterlock clasp does a superb job mechanically and also looks fabulous into the bargain; the quality of finish on the clasp and case may not seem terribly elaborate at first, but it is as technically flawless as anything I have ever seen at any price, on any watch.
What we have here, in other words, is a very Rolex interpretation of luxury. Yes, this is a gold watch, and a gold Rolex, and wearing a gold Rolex always carries with it, shall we say, certain semiotic complexities. However there is also another side to the watch, and to the Rolex approach to luxury in general: the taking of such pains to produce technical perfection that technical perfection becomes a luxury in itself.
The Everose Rolex Yachtmaster, in Rolex Everose, with Everose Oysterclasp and Oysterflex bracelet, as shown, $22,000 in 37 mm, and $24,950 in 40 mm. For more info, check out Rolex.com.

FIFTH WRIST
Owner review: rolex yacht-master 37 268621.
The Yacht-Master line of Rolex has never been a hugely popular series from the acclaimed watch house. That is not necessarily a bad thing though. This was actually the main reason that I got attracted to the Rolex Yacht-Master 37 268621 in the first place.
There are very few of these that you will actually see in the wild.
The Rolex Yacht-Master 37 268621 has such an elegant profile, it is similar to the case of a modern Datejust and Daytona with lugs slopping down and hugging one’s wrist. So when I got a call from my Rolex authorized dealer last year (I waited for a week…. Yes you read it right, waited only for a week) I didn’t think twice and drove myself the very next day to pick it up in person.
I picked up the less popular 37mm two-tone rose gold version and I absolutely love it. The Rolex rose gold is so warm that one tends to get mesmerized by it (at least I do). The elegance of the profile, shine and tone of the rose gold and weight does not disappoint. I wear this in the office and on the beach… literally an incredibly versatile timepiece.
A lot of people might be wondering why I opted for the Rolex Yacht-Master 37 268621 rather than the popular 40mm. I always prefer the more modest sized watches and thought this one was a good fit on my 6.5 inch wrist. I have a number of 40mm watches in my current collection and I thought the 37mm would be a good addition for a more “classy touch”. It is still a mystery to me why this line has not shoot up in popularity and value. Something deep inside me would prefer to keep it that way… a hidden gem that only a few know and appreciate!

Smooth Sailing with the Rolex Yacht-Master 37
Because of all the excitement caused by the launch of the steel and ceramic Daytona ref. 116500LN at Baselworld 2016, it’s easy to forget that there were other new Rolex watches there too. Case in point is the highly attractive, yet somewhat overlooked, Yacht-Master 37 ref. 268622. The ref. 286622 is the smaller version of the Yacht-Master 40 ref. 116622 with the exact same color palette—making these a great pair of matching his and her Rolex watches. With warmer weather finally on the horizon, let’s dive into the nautical-inspired Yacht-Master 37 ref. 268622.
The Beauty of the Rolesium Yacht-Master 37
As its name suggests, the Yacht-Master 37 ref. 286622 sports a very wearable 37mm case—perfectly suitable for women. Alternatively, men who prefer a more restrained watch size can certainly wear this particular Yacht-Master too. Dubbed by Rolex as “Rolesium”, this term refers to the use of both stainless steel and platinum on the Yacht-Master.
Both the Oyster case and Oyster bracelet are constructed from stainless steel for optimal robustness and sportiness, while the platinum rotating bezel amps up the luxuriousness. While this Yacht-Master 37 is monochromatic, it is far from boring thanks to different shades and textures. For instance, the matt sandblasted platinum on the bezel is a stunning contrast to the glossy raised numerals. Also, the center polished links of the steel Oyster bracelet pops next to the brushed steel links flanking it. Furthermore, the dark rhodium dial has a sunburst finish, which plays beautifully in the light.
That moody gray dial benefits from a subtle flash of color. And the turquoise seconds hand and turquoise “Yacht-Master” label is the perfect color choice. Encircling the periphery of the dial are the large lume plots with white gold surrounds, in addition to the date window at 3 o’clock. Naturally, this being a Rolex, the date display is magnified by the brand’s iconic Cylops lens affixed to the crystal sapphire protecting the dial. Finally, sitting at the center of the dial is the pair of luminescent Mercedes-style hands .
The Caliber 2236 at the heart of the Yacht-Master 37
Powering the Rolesium Yacht-Master 37 is the Rolex Caliber 2236 automatic movement. As with all modern Rolex calibers, this is an in-house mechanical movement. It is, of course, a COSC-certified movement, but beyond that, it’s also a “Superlative Chronometer” due to Rolex’s more stringent parameters. In fact, the Caliber 2236 boasts a precision rate of -2/+2 sec/day, while the COSC threshold is only -4/+6 seconds per day.
The functions of the Caliber 2236 include the time and date . But, it also has the instantaneous date feature—meaning that the date “jumps” to the next one at midnight rather than a slow gradual turning of the disc. Additionally, the hacking feature—where the seconds hand comes to a complete stop when the winding crown is out—allows for more precise time adjustments.
Positioned as a luxury watch to wear while sailing aboard a boat (or lunching at the yacht club), the Yacht-Master 37 is water resistant to 330 feet (100 meters). To achieve this, the watertight Oyster case features a monobloc middle case , Triplock winding crown, and fluted caseback.

Rolex Yacht-Master Marine character
Launched in 1992, the Yacht-Master was designed specifically for navigators and skippers. This Professional-category watch provides a perfect blend of functionality and nautical style, making it equally at home on and off the water.
The Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master embodies the privileged ties between Rolex and the world of sailing that stretch back to the 1950s. Specially designed to meet the needs of sailors, it is a technical, elegant and sporty watch that is above all a useful and reliable nautical instrument.
An immediately recognizable bezel
The Yacht-Master is easily recognizable for its bidirectional rotatable 60-minute graduated bezel made entirely from precious metal (Everose gold or platinum) or fitted with a black Cerachrom insert in high-technology ceramic. The raised polished graduations and numerals stand out clearly against a matt background. This characteristic and functional bezel – which enables the wearer to read time intervals, for example, the sailing time between two buoys – plays a full part in creating the unique visual identity of the watch.
Exclusive materials
Robust, accurate and perfectly waterproof, the Yacht-Master is one of the only Rolex Professional watches offered in several diameters (37, 40 and 42 mm). The Yacht-Master 37 and Yacht-Master 40 are available in a Rolesium version (combining Oystersteel and platinum, exclusive to the Yacht-Master range) and in an Everose Rolesor version (combining Oystersteel and Everose gold) with a bezel in precious metal and fitted with an Oyster bracelet. Both models are also offered in 18 ct Everose gold featuring a Cerachrom bezel insert in black ceramic and an Oysterflex bracelet.
The Yacht-Master 42 is available in 18 ct yellow or white gold with an Oysterflex bracelet and in RLX titanium – a particularly lightweight alloy with excellent corrosion-resistance properties and high mechanical strength – with an Oyster bracelet. This version, unveiled in 2023, stands out for its technical satin finish, a finish with a visible grain.
Perpetual calibres 2236 and 3235
Yacht-Master models are equipped with calibre 2236 (Yacht-Master 37) or calibre 3235 (Yacht-Master 40 and Yacht-Master 42), self-winding mechanical movements entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. They offer outstanding performance, particularly in terms of precision, power reserve, convenience and reliability. Both movements’ power reserve extends to approximately 70 hours.
Superlative Chronometer certification
Like all Rolex timepieces, the Yacht-Master is covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification. This designation testifies that every watch leaving the brand’s workshops has successfully undergone a series of tests conducted by Rolex in its own laboratories, according to its own criteria. The Superlative Chronometer status is symbolized by a green seal and is coupled with an international five-year guarantee.

GENES / COLORS AND THEIR LOCATION – from Germany
Genes/Colors and their location:
Body colors (all autosomal) are:
– grey – dominant over all over body colors
– gold/tiger/bronze – recessive
– blond/gold – recessive
– albino/rrea – recessive there are two different genes which cause the albino phenotype and which can’t be differentiated.
– lutino/wrea – recessive
– there are three types of blau:
one blau –gene shows no red and no yellow another blau gene could show reduced red but no yellow and the other blau gene (this one is called “hellblau”, this is a German word which means light blue) could show yellow e.g. snake skin
– pink is something special because of its peculiarities, it has a reduced number of the big black colour cells (melanophores) and it looks like tiger in its pure manifestation (without the hb). In the combination with the Nigrocaudatus 2 gene (it’s the gene for half black/tuxedo) the back becomes pink, that was the reason for the name “pink”, because the first guppies with this body colour where pink half blacks. It is suspected that they have also an increased number of iridophores. – cream – double recessive, gold + tiger
– white – double recessive, blau + gold
– silver – double recessive, blau + tiger
– “super white” – triple recessive, blau + gold + albino
you can breed more combinations but only for these double and triple recessive body colours exists a specific name.
Some (not all!) colors:
1. colors for the fore-body (the belly, until the beginning of dorsal in their original appearance):
– Coral is a metallic red which is in most cases y-linked but there should be one x-linked strain in Germany too. In Germany we call it “neon” . In the combination with one of the blau genes it becomes light blue.
– Moscow is a y-linked gene in most cases but there are some x-linked strains too. It is a metallic silver until dark blue colour. The intensity depends of the mood of the male. You can find this gene in metal heads (y-linked moscow + y-linked snake skin) or moscow blues (y-linked moscow + y-linked blue + x-linked blue) or in moscow greens and moscow purples
– Schimmelpfennig Metall (this is the original German name) or platinum is a metallic white/yellow/bright purple/bright blue. It is y-linked in most cases but there are some x-linked strains e.g. in Japan too.
– Lazuli is a light blue which is y-linked (I don’t know it for sure, because only the Japanese breed it and in Europe there are no lines of this strain, so I had to use a online-translation which could be wrong)
2. colors for the lower-back:
– half black (it is the Nigrocaudatus 2 gene) is a x-linked gene in most cases but there are some y-linked strains too. It is a more or less black colour. It could become dark blue too after some selective breeding ( you have to increase the number of iridophores which lay above the melanophores) . In combination with the platinum it seems to be greenish.
– japan blue/aquamarine is a light blue which is a y-linked gene in most cases but there are some x-linked strains too.
– Störzbach (Stoerzbach) metal is a recessive and autosomal metallic blue, but in combination with other colour-genes it makes them a metallic colour e.g. Mikarif (Stoerzbach metal + snake skin)
There a lot of colours which consists of several different genes for example full reds. There are 6 (perhaps more) different genes for red and they can be y-linked, x-linked and autosomal, some are dominant and others are recessive, so it’s very difficult to talk about reds and full reds. Some colours are shown on the whole body e.g. snake skin. And some colors are shown on the body and the fins e.g. blues (in blue delta IFGA strains), parrish and hutter greens, snake skins, reds, purples, 3/4 blacks etc.
The problem is that some body-colours or normal colours also effect the form of the caudal e.g. you cannot create a half black double sword. There are some genes which are not really a colour like red, but the effect the caudal form too. The x-linked gene “cp” is such a gene. It causes a dark pigmentation of the caudal and together with the “double sword-gene” it causes a delta tail. The delta tail always consists of two or more genes. There has to be the “double sword-gene” (which can be y- or x-linked) and a colour gene for the caudal. Sometimes the male has both necessary genes or the female has both genes or each sex has only one of these genes, but in all these case you got a delta tail.
I hope you can see that the genetic of the guppy is very complex and to create a new strain is a lot of hard work and a great challenge.
For example when your cross a grey guppy (GG) with a gold guppy(gg), your will get guppy of these four different genotype (GG), (Gg), (gG) & (gg). All 3 fish with genotype (GG), (Gg), (gG) will turn out to be a grey guppy, in this case gene (G) is considered dominant over other gene (g). Recessive – A gene in which the trait it represent will not show because its dominanted by another gene it pair with is considered recessive.
Refer to the example above, those guppy with genotype(Gg) will turn out to be grey instead of gold because the gold gene (g) is recessive. Only instance when you can have a gold body guppy is when the guppy have this genotype (gg).
Homozygous – Paired genes that are the same at the same locus(location). Using the above example we can say that a gold body guppy have homozygous gold body trait. We commonly refer a heterozygous guppy as one that does not breed true.
Heterozygous – Paired genes that are different. Referring to the example above, the grey guppy with (Gg) & (gG) genotype are heterozygous. We commonly refer a homozygous guppy as one that breed true.
Only the male can show y-linked traits. But they can also show x-linked taits or a mix of y- and of x-linked traits. Y-linked means that the gene(s) for this trait are on the Y-chromosome.
It’s the same with x-linked. Females can’t show all traits because there is a lack of some special colorcells in their skin. They have all kinds of colorcells but they have less cells of certain kinds than the males. If a y-linked gene becomes x-linked because of a crossing-over the appearance of the phenotype of this trait on the females could be the same as on the males. But sometimes there are some changes in the appearance e.g. japan blue. Females with x-linked japan blue don’t show any blue on the body, they only show sometimes some blue on the caudal. Don’t ask me why they don’t show it. Full gold females show that females have enough iridophores to show metalic colors. You see the same genotype (same genes) doesn’t mean the same phenotype (this what you can see with your eyes if you look on the fsih) at both sexes. It’s like every science : there are more questions than answers and even if got the answer to one question there two new questions in this one answer.
Outcrosses;
When making outcrosses you want to cross with lines that you are pretty sure are going to give the desired results. Somewhere around 80% to 90% of outcrosses produce fish that are inferior to both parents. When you are selecting which strains of fish you would like to work with, it is advantageous to select lines that can be used to improve each other. Over the years I nave Kept a mental catalog of the crosses that have worked well. Today, these crosses are the backbone of my breeding program. Below are some of the crosses that have worked well in my fish room using my lines. These are pretty well tested crosses so they should work for most lines of these colors.
Reds and H/B Reds: I will use the gold bodied red males into the gray bodied h/b red females to improve the h/b reds. First generation will give 100% h/b reds. These are show stoppers. I then discard all the females from the cross and breed the males back to the pure gray bodied h/b red females. The downside of this cross is losing the deep h/b body color in the males. Always select the females with the darkest body color. (Note: you can create an excellent gray red line by saving some of the F1 females and crossing them back to the pure gold red males. The resultant offspring will be 25% gray reds.)
Reds and Albinos: I will cross the gold red males into the albino females to improve the albino line. The F1 is 100% gray reds. I then take these gray red males back to the pure albino females. Theoretically you should get 30% albinos, but I usually end up with 25-30%. You can then brother/sister these again for about three generations without much loss in vigor or fertility.
Purples and Greens: One of the best kept secrets in the hobby! This cross works both ways and will produce some excellent blues as well. The purple is dominant and will darken the greens considerably. With this in mind, use the lightest green colored male into the purple females to produce bigger and better greens. To improve the purples, cross the purple males into the green females. To select the grown females from the hybrid cross, shine a flashlight on them at night with the lights turned off. The green females will have a green crescent at the base of the peduncle and the purple females will have a purple crescent.
Variegated Yellow Snakeskin and H/B AOC (leopard): To improve the pattern in the h/b Aocs, cross the snake males into h/b females. In my lines the h/b is X linked and dominant. This means that the resulting offspring will all be h/b. Take the best male from the cross and breed them back to the pure h/b females. I use this cross about every 5 or 6 generations in my h/b aoc line.
H/B Pastel and Pastels: To improve the size and finnage of the pastels, cross a gold bodied white pastel into a gray bodied h/b pastel female. The offspring from this cross will be washed out gray bodied h/b pastels. Take the best of these males and breed them back to the pure gold bodied pastel females. The offspring will be 50% gold bodied pastels. These will be bigger and more vigorous than the original pastel line.
Blue/Green Bicolors and Yellow Variegated Snakeskins: Take the largest blue/green male (don’t worry too much about the color pattern) and cross this fish with the snake females. Take the males from this cross and breed them back to the bl/gr females. I have some excellent bl/gr bis coming up from this exact cross.

Setting Up the Perfect Home for Your Blue Moscow Guppies
Creating a cozy and safe space for your Blue Moscow Guppies is super important. We’ll break down how to set up a guppy tank in simple steps, perfect for both beginners and experienced fish lovers.
Tank Size and Requirements:
Tank Size : First, you need to pick the right tank. For a small group of Blue Moscow Guppies, a 10-gallon tank is just right. If you can, go bigger with a 20-gallon long tank, so your fish have more room to swim and play. Bigger tanks are also easier to keep clean, which keeps your guppies healthy.
Filter : A good filter is like a superhero for your tank. It keeps the water clean and healthy for your guppies . The Aquaclear HOB filter or a sponge filter are both great choices. Aquaclear filters are awesome because they work really well, and they’re easy to take care of. Sponge filters are gentle, which is great for guppy babies. They’re like a cozy hideout for the little ones.
Substrate : The stuff at the bottom of the tank is called the substrate. Guppies like fine gravel or sand. It’s comfy for them, and it looks natural. CaribSea and Seachem are brands that make good substrates. Be sure to rinse it well before you put it in the tank to get rid of any dust and dirt.
Heater : Guppies are tropical fish so they need warm water. To keep the temperature just right, you need a heater. Heaters from brands like Eheim, Fluval, and Aqueon are super at keeping the water just the way guppies like it. Make sure to pick a heater that’s the right size for your tank.
By following these steps, you’ll have a comfy home ready for your Blue Moscow Guppies. They’ll love the space, the clean water, and the warmth. Plus, you can watch them swim and play in their beautiful tank. So, get started and enjoy your underwater adventure with your guppy friends!

Blue Moscow Guppy Tank Mates
Choosing suitable tank mates is essential to ensure a peaceful and harmonious aquarium community.
Compatible Tank Mates
- Other Guppies : Blue Moscow Guppies get along well with other Guppy varieties like Blue Cobra Guppy , Red Cobra Guppy , Cobra Guppies , Koi Guppy . However, avoid mixing them with aggressive strains.
- Swordtails : Swordtails share similar water parameter requirements and make great tank mates.
- Mollies : Mollies are peaceful fish that can coexist with Blue Moscow Guppies.
- Tetras: tetras like the Neon Tetra or Cardinal Tetra make great tank mates for your guppies
- Corydoras Catfish : These small catfish species are excellent bottom-dwellers and help keep the tank clean. Salt and Pepper Catfish , Sterba’s Pepper Cory Catfish Corydoras
Avoid aggressive or nippy fish like some tetras and barbs, as they may stress or harm your Guppies.
Blue Moscow Guppy Breeding
Breeding Blue Moscow Guppies can be a rewarding experience. These fish are prolific breeders, and their vibrant colors make the offspring equally stunning.
Breeding Tips
- Separate Breeding Tank : Set up a separate breeding tank with fine-leaved plants or a breeding trap.
- Mating Behavior : Blue Moscow Guppy males display courting behavior, often zigzagging in front of females. Females can store sperm, so one mating can result in multiple pregnancies.
- Gestation Period : The gestation period is approximately 21-30 days, after which the female gives birth to live fry.
- Fry Care : Transfer the fry to a separate nursery tank to protect them from being eaten by adult fish. Provide them with finely crushed flakes and baby brine shrimp.
Blue Moscow Guppy Plants
Incorporating live plants into your Blue Moscow Guppy’s tank not only enhances the aesthetics but also contributes to their well-being.
Recommended Plants
- Java Moss : This moss provides ample hiding places for fry and helps maintain water quality.
- Amazon Sword : Its broad leaves offer shelter and mimic their natural habitat.
- Hornwort : An excellent option for adding vertical elements to the tank. It also provides cover for fry.
- Anacharis : This fast-growing plant helps with water filtration and oxygenation.
- Duckweed : Floating plants like duckweed offer shade and security, especially for the Blue Moscow Guppy fry.
While live plants can thrive in Blue Moscow Guppy tanks, it’s essential to monitor their growth and trim them as needed to prevent overcrowding.
Are Blue Moscow Guppies Rare?
Blue Moscow Guppies, while not extremely rare, are considered a specialty variety. They may not be as readily available as the more common guppy strains, but they are still popular in the aquarium hobby. The availability of Blue Moscow Guppies can vary depending on your location and the suppliers in your area. You may need to visit reputable local fish stores or search online to find these beautiful guppies. Keep in mind that the popularity of guppy strains can fluctuate, and some passionate breeders may specialize in Blue Moscow Guppies, making them more accessible.
How Many Guppies Should I Keep Together?
For beginners and small tanks, it’s recommended to keep a small group of guppies together. A good starting point is to keep 3 to 5 guppies in a 10-gallon tank. This allows them to socialize and exhibit their natural behaviors. However, if you have a larger tank, you can keep more guppies. Just be cautious not to overcrowd the tank, as proper space and water quality are essential for their well-being.
How to Take Care of Guppies for Beginners:
Taking care of guppies is perfect for beginners in the aquarium hobby. Here’s a simple guide:
- Tank Setup : Set up a tank with appropriate size and equipment. Follow the guidelines mentioned earlier, which include filtration, substrate, and plant choices.
- Water Parameters : Maintain clean water with the right temperature (72°F to 82°F or 22°C to 28°C), pH level (6.8 to 7.8), and hardness (8 to 12 dGH).
- Feeding : Feed high-quality flake food and occasionally supplement with live or frozen foods. Remember not to overfeed.
- Tank Mates : Choose peaceful tank mates that are compatible with guppies, such as other guppy strains, swordtails, mollies, and small catfish like Corydoras.
- Disease Prevention : Keep an eye on your guppies for any signs of illness. Prevent diseases by maintaining excellent water quality and quarantining new fish before adding them to the tank.
- Breeding : Guppies are prolific breeders. If you want to breed them, separate fry from adult guppies to protect the little ones and provide proper care.
- Enjoy : Most importantly, enjoy watching your guppies. They are active and colorful fish that can provide hours of entertainment.
Do Guppies Need a Cycled Tank?
Yes, guppies, like most aquarium fish, benefit from a cycled tank. A cycled tank means that beneficial bacteria have established themselves in the aquarium and can convert harmful ammonia and nitrites into less harmful nitrates. This biological filtration process helps maintain good water quality, which is essential for the health of your guppies.
Cycling a tank is especially important in the early stages of setting up your aquarium. It ensures that your tank is capable of handling the waste produced by your guppies and helps prevent harmful spikes in ammonia and nitrite levels. To cycle a tank, you can add a source of ammonia (e.g., fish food or pure ammonia) and allow the beneficial bacteria to develop over a few weeks. Once the tank is cycled, it’s ready for your guppies.
In summary, Blue Moscow Guppies are not extremely rare but are considered a specialty variety. For beginners, start with a small group of guppies, maintain proper tank conditions, and ensure your tank is cycled to provide the best care for these lovely fish. Enjoy your guppy-keeping journey!
Blue Moscow Guppies are a striking addition to any aquarium, admired for their captivating colors and unique appearance. To ensure the well-being of these beautiful fish, it’s crucial to pay attention to tank size and setup, maintain proper water parameters, provide a balanced diet, and be vigilant about diseases and their prevention. When considering tank mates, compatibility is key, and for those interested in breeding, following best practices will lead to a rewarding experience. By incorporating live plants, you create an environment that not only showcases their beauty but also supports their health. Whether you’re a seasoned aquarist or a beginner, Blue Moscow Guppies can be a fascinating and rewarding addition to your aquatic hobby.

Staying on course
The Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master 37 in Oystersteel and platinum with an Oyster bracelet.
Exceptional legibility
Like all Rolex Professional watches, the Yacht-Master 37 offers exceptional legibility in all circumstances, and especially in the dark, thanks to its Chromalight display.
The broad hands and hour markers in simple shapes – triangles, circles, rectangles – are filled with a luminescent material emitting a long-lasting glow.
A legendary combination
Many Rolex watches are available with the now-legendary combination of yellow, white or Everose gold and steel known as Rolesor, but Rolesium is a creation specific to the Yacht-Master.
While the case and bracelet are in rugged Oystersteel, the bezel of the Rolesium versions is made of platinum, imparting a silvery whiteness and vibrant luminosity for an unmistakable sense of luxury.
