Passenger safety is our top priority. No Expecting Mothers, those with bad backs, shoulders, knees, or hips, anyone who has recently undergone any surgeries, and those with mobility limitations. All passengers must be suited for possible rough waters and able to hold on and move about the vessel without concern. Children must be over the age of 3 years old. Maximum weight limit of 300 lbs per person may not be exceeded. Sorry, there is no smoking permitted on the vessel, on the pier, or near the office per state law. All activities are conditions permitting with the Captain’s discretion. The Nā Pali Coast is not a guarantee. Tours may reroute due to ocean conditions. If you are prone to seasickness or not sure, PLEASE take something in advance, Bonine or Dramamine.  Everyone is different…Don’t hesitate, medicate!

All snorkeling passengers will be required to have the upper body strength to pull themselves out of the water with a small marine ladder. Passengers who exceed 250 pounds are more at risk if a snorkeling incident occurs. Crew members may have difficulty getting said passengers back onboard.

To modify, reschedule, or cancel ANY tour and receive a full refund, YOU MUST CALL KST at 808-335-5309 within the following timeframes:

• 24 Hours prior to tour check-in for parties of 1-4 passengers;
• 72 Hours prior to tour check-in for parties of 5-9 passengers;
• 7 Days prior to tour check-in for parties of 10 and more passengers;
• 30 Days prior to tour check-in for Exclusive Private Charters.

No shows are charged 100%.  No refunds for non-disclosures of health concerns, re-routes, non-snorkel or sea sickness. Everything is conditions permitting with the Captain’s discretion.

Safety First

If you are snorkeling without a tour, always check current ocean conditions before going out. Be informed of these important ocean safety tips:

• When in doubt, don’t go out.
• Always snorkel with a buddy.
• Use a point of reference on shore and check periodically to make sure you have not drifted too far.
• For beginners, going with an experienced snorkerler is recommended.

Who Can Snorkel?

Just about anyone can snorkel, as technique is more important than your fitness level. The fundamentals are easy to learn. Basic swimming skills are required, but snorkel vests can be used to assist in floatation. Depending on how adventurous you are, different levels of physical ability are required. If you have any doubts, consult your physician regarding any conditions that might be limiting for this activity.

Kauai is an excellent destination for snorkeling, with many beautiful beaches and reefs to explore. Here are some of the best places to snorkel on Kauai:

• Tunnels Beach : Located on the North Shore, Tunnels Beach is one of the best places to snorkel on Kauai. The beach is known for its clear waters and colorful marine life and even reef sharks.
• Poipu Beach : Located on the South Shore, Poipu Beach is another popular spot for snorkeling on Kauai. Easy parking and access with excellent visibility.
• Na Pali Coast : Napali offers some of the most pristine snorkeling conditions in Hawaii. While a boat is required to reach Napali's reefs, an adventure down the rugged coast is an adventure of a lifetime.
• Ke'e Beach : Ke'e is located at the end of the road and is the entrance to Na Pali Coast. The beach is surrounded by a coral reef which is easily reached from shore. A permit is required for parking and can sell out days in advance.
• Kipu Kai : Accessible only by boat to the public, this beautiful and secluded coastline offers clear waters and diverse marine life.
• Lawai Beach : Lawai Beach is another great snorkeling spot on the South Shore. It offers easy access off the beach with lots of marine wildlife and clear waters.

Went out on the Snorkeling Cruise. Crew was incredibly kind and funny. They were always aware of the patrons safety even when people couldn’t follow simple directions. The snorkeling was amazing. They provided adequate food and beverage and made sure everyone was as comfortable as possible. The captain and his crew did not try to hide anything and let people know what was going on. I definitely recommend booking a tour with these guys, you won’t be disappointed!

• In the afternoon, the ocean and wind might get rougher compared to the morning tour. For safety reasons, the activity provider might have to cancel the afternoon tour. If that happens, you can choose to reschedule for another available date or get a full refund.

Snorkel for about one hour as long as the ocean allows us to. Locations for snorkeling are planned at Makole, Ke’e Beach (tunnels), Nualolo Kai, or Kekaha and Kaumakani if the surf is up along the Napali Coast.

Deli-style sandwiches prepared daily by the local deli. A choice of beef, ham, turkey, veggie, and peanut butter & jelly sandwiches. Along with fresh island fruit, freshly made cookies, soft drinks, bottled water, and juices.

Get close to or into the open ceiling sea caves, such as Pirates Cave (Waiahuakua), Rainbow Waterfall, and the famous Honopu Archway where the movie King Kong was filmed.

Overall rating

Went on the afternoon trip with my best friend, we went as a birthday outing for him. The trip was SPECTACULAR, the cliffs and the water were gorgeous, we saw a a whale, the captain regaled us with facts of the coastline ... , and saw one of the sea caves. It was a little rough and we did not go in but it was still just as amazing all the same. We did not do any snorkeling (as it would be a little late in the day to do so) but we were permitted to jump out of the boat to swim around. It was fun, had a nice little meal. I will definitely go with this tour again if given the chance. A+.

I do not know where to start. On September 20th we boarded the boat with Captain A’a and his daughter Ri (Ree). They were professional, knowledgeable, fun, and worth every penny. Whether you are serious about snorkeling ... (like me) or just looking to see the sites (my husband) you will enjoy this excursion. On land they will divide you up into groups and then Captain A’a will explain the do’s and don’ts while on his boat (by the way do not bring bananas or granola bars as snacks – he will explain). He is serious about the don’ts. The Captain and his daughter are very knowledgeable of the area (ask them anything) and they are so much fun. I would definitely recommend the Makana Charters and I highly recommend Captain A’a and his daughter. Thank you both for a fabulous time and making us feel like your friend – not just a customer.

Best Tour we’ve ever done!

Captain Kam and Asia were wonderful to our small group. We loved being in the smaller 12 person boat. Kam is a very skilled captain and they both always kept our safety a priority. It was fun, incredibly gorgeous view of ... the Napali coast. We saw dolphins, turtles, went under a waterfall. The best part was we got lucky with the weather and got to experience a unique cave tour as well. Food was great too, everything was perfect!
