The Georgia Queen makes travelling between the first and third floors easy for guests with a passenger elevator located at the bow of the ship where you board.  As we mentioned before,The Georgia Queen’s top-deck has a sprawling 5,000+ square feet of open air patio space, perfect for sightseeing and enjoying refreshing river breezes.

The 600 passenger Savannah River Queen has three decks, each offer a glass enclosed climate-controlled dining and observation deck with panoramic views. The third deck has a partially covered open-air patio and a private VIP suite that offers 458 sq ft and can seat up to 36 passengers. There are numerous bench seats that line her third deck exterior for impeccable views and plenty of sunshine. The Savannah River Queen’s  first deck offers 3,325 sq ft and can accommodate a seating capacity of up to 200 guests. The second deck offers 2,837 sq ft and can accommodate a seating capacity of up to 175 guests. Each of the decks has restroom facilities and fully stocked bars as well as a fully equipped snack shop on the third deck.

Both the Savannah River Queen and the Georgia Queen operate under U.S. Coast Guard regulations and comply with all passenger safety requirements.

Invasive yellow-legged hornet queen captured as authorities work to stop the species’ spread

SAVANNAH, Ga. ( WTOC /Gray News) - Authorities in Georgia caught a yellow-legged hornet queen as they ask for the public’s help in eradicating the invasive species.

On Monday, the Georgia Department of Agriculture eradicated an embryonic nest of yellow-legged hornets and captured the nest’s queen.

Just last month, another queen was captured in South Carolina.

The invasive species are native to the tropical and subtropical areas of Southeast Asia, according to a report from CNN . The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service reports the insects feed on a variety of other insects, including honeybees.

“If allowed to establish in the United States, these invasive pests could threaten populations of domestic and feral honey bees – some of which are already endangered – and other native pollinators,” the service’s report said.

Georgia’s Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper also said the hornets threaten Georgia’s agriculture industry and could lead to billions of dollars in losses.

The invasive species was first spotted in the U.S. in August 2023 when a beekeeper in Savannah, Georgia, reported an unusual hornet on his property to the Georgia Department of Agriculture, according to the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service .

Since then, the Georgia Department of Agriculture has been vigilant in its attempts to track down and eradicate the species in the U.S.

Harper said that this year, the Georgia Department of Agriculture is increasing staff and the number of traps. For example, this year the department will deploy 1,000 traps to catch the hornet compared to the 170 traps used last year.

There is also new technology to track and eradicate the hornets. The department is using trackers that are smaller than the ones used last year, as well as frequency scanners that can detect the unique sound the hornet’s wings make when it flies.

“They’re going to be working to deploy this technology throughout the Savannah area, and working to utilize it to track the hornet, find the hornet, and at the end of the day eradicate the hornet so we can have a successful mission and hopefully be able to address this issue and won’t have to deal with it again,” Harper explained.

Officials say the public’s help is crucial for helping to stop the hornets. The department released a video on how to make your own yellow-legged hornet trap.
