The distinct reverse-raked bow is a feature seldom seen in yacht designs of this size. The absence of a large overhanging bow leads to the hull slicing through waves instead of riding up and over, thereby dampening pitch at sea. The result? A smoother, more enjoyable experience at sea for everyone on board.

New Bering 70 Takes 1,200-nm, 12-Day Summer Cruise

In a successful effort to show what’s possible in a 12-day cruise, the leaders of Bering Yachts took a new Bering 70 steel-hulled expedition yacht on a 1,200 nm trip around Turkey’s Turquoise and Aegean coasts earlier this summer. With a two-person crew moving the yacht at night, they spent the days exploring historic sites, visiting waterfront restaurants, swimming in remote coves, and generally having the time of their lives. Berings are built in Antalya, Turkey, and the cruise started and ended there. Alexey Mikhailov, the company’s president, said, “We wanted to demonstrate that a fast planing yacht is not necessary to cover distances in a limited-time cruise, and that it can be done a whole lot more comfortably and cost-effectively.”

Powered by twin 305-hp Cummins diesels, the Bering 70 tops out at 13 knots, but on this vacation it cruised at eight knots, burning just 4.2 gph. At that speed, the three-cabin, flybridge yacht has a range of 2,500 nm.

The Bering 70 has panoramic windows, full walkaround side decks, lots of lounging areas, three luxury staterooms with en suite heads and showers plus a crew quarters with its own head, and a Seakeeper gyrostabilizer to keep everyone comfortable underway.

To make touring easy, the Bering towed a 28-foot Hysucat hydrofoil RIB, which is made by a Bering Yachts subsidiary. It has a 50-knot top speed, and was large enough to carry everyone on board to shore sites.

Mikhailov says, “Not only did this cruise prove the intended point of covering big distances overnight in total comfort and using each day to the maximum, it also proved a very important side point, which is that young women can cruise on a boat like this in total glamour and style. My office team of Elena, Olga and Lena dressed in a multitude of different outfits to fit each occasion, and I felt at times that I was part of an ongoing fashion parade rather than a luxury yacht cruise.”

Base price for the Bering 70 in Turkey is about $2,250,000.

Bering 70 yacht tour: The ultimate long-range steel explorer yacht?

At the 2021 Cannes Yachting Festival, Hugo took the chance to look inside the Bering 70 explorer yacht, which was making its Cannes debut.

With a rounded displacement hull constructed of 6mm steel, a superstructure made of 6mm aluminium, topped by a fibreglass flybridge , few boats looked more out of place at the 2021 Cannes Yachting Festival , and yet few attracted so much attention.

The Bering 70 was conceived by naval architect Valeriy Savelyev, styled by the Australian yacht designer Scott Blee, and built by Bering in Turkey.

As the debut model in the shipyard’s Coastal series, her deliberately shallow draught of just over 4ft (1.33m) makes her especially suitable for exploring littoral waters rather than ocean passagemaking.

There are sturdy skegs to protect the sterngear in case you’ve got the echo sounder set to feet instead of metres.

The compact deck saloon is flanked by wide, safe side decks and a spacious cockpit aft, and has a decent-looking dinette and midships galley, and a separate wheelhouse.

Down below, the Bering 70’s sleeping arrangements feature a spacious ensuite owner’s cabin amidships and a VIP forward, with one small twin-bunk cabin between them, opposite the day head.

There is crew accommodation for two in the stern. The interior décor on the prototype is pleasantly modern, with light fabrics and veneers to open up the spaces.

Under a fixed hardtop, the flybridge has plenty of seating and lounging space, and tender stowage aft. For sun-worshippers the foredeck sunpad is the place to be.

With its 1,500-gallon (6,800lt) fuel capacity and modest horsepower, the shipyard claims an impressive cruising range of 3,000 nautical miles for the 65-tonne Bering 70 at a sensible eight knots.

Just as important for a boat whose owners might reasonably expect to operate independently for longish periods is its 280-gallon (1,273lt) fresh water capacity.

Update: If you missed it last year, don’t despair – the Bering 70 will be making an appearance at the 2022 Cannes Yachting Festival .
