About Podium

Podium was commissioned by a repeat client who has built with Feadship before and was delighted with both the experience of creating a Feadship as well as the many years of enjoyment that have followed. Onlooker eyes will be instantly drawn to the beautiful combination of a dark blue hull, white superstructure and a continuous band of glass which is flush to the exterior. Striking glass railings with a teak cap rail offers another visual treat, along with a wealth of stainless steel and high gloss eucalyptus details.

Feadship Superyacht Podium Captured on Sea Trials

The 72.85 metre Feadship superyacht Podium , previously known as Project 705, has been captured underway on sea trials.

It comes after the yacht was transported from Aalsmeer to Rotterdam earlier this month. The yacht first left the construction hall at Aalsmeer in February this year.

The full displacement yacht was designed by RWD with Feadship De Voogt Naval Architects.

Commissioned by a repeat client, the yacht features a striking dark blue hull, white superstructure and extensive glass glazing that runs flush to the exterior. Other details still remain sparse.

Project manager Gerhard Dekker previously said: “It may be a cliché but I truly believe that it takes a team to build a dream, and the way in which everyone has played their part in creating this exceptional vessel is a textbook example of teamwork.”

The steel hull and aluminium superstructure of the yacht were previously built by Feadship’s Papendrecht based sub-contractor Scheepswerf Slob.

Little else is known about the yacht, which has a beam of 12.6 metres, has three teak decks and is due for delivery later this year.

With such bold design, she was awarded the Best Custom Motor Yacht Interior at the ShowBoats International Awards in 2007. Large windows and flowing spaces are a feature of this neat super yacht, with spaces maximised to ensure she is an ideal family vessel.

The main deck is home to a formal dining salon for 12 and a large main salon with six-stool low bar and plush seating area. Aft is a casual dining area and staircases that lead either down to the immense swim platform or up towards the upper decks.

Above is the bridge deck with its casual salon and five-stool wet bar, while aft sits a games table and another seating area. The Panoramic deck can be closed-off or kept open depending on the weather and boasts another large dining table and bar. The foredeck is home to a Jacuzzi, comfortable sun pads and a dining banquet and aft can be found a lounging area, space convertible into a dance floor and a barbeque for roof-top meals.

Amongst her six cabins are an indulgent master suite, four King staterooms and a smaller stateroom. The full-width master suite is located on the main deck and features a private office, sitting area, walk-in closet and his and hers bathroom with Jacuzzi. Below decks are found the four guest cabins, each with en suite, deck and television. The smaller cabin is designed for use by staff or children and is also convertible into a fitness room.

We spent $20,980 to see the Formula 1 Grand Prix live. The luxury yacht party and epic balcony views weren't even the best parts.

  • My fiancé and I splurged on a trip to Monaco for our very first Formula 1 Grand Prix.
  • For about $20,980, we stayed in Nice, France , and attended the races all weekend.
  • We also attended a luxurious yacht party and soaked in views of Monaco during the race.

Insider Today

My fiancé and I saved up to celebrate our recent engagement in style during one of the year's most iconic, expensive weekends: the Formula 1 (F1) Monaco Grand Prix.

The F1 Monaco Grand Prix is an annual race for drivers in the highest class of international racing for single-seater formula cars.

Though the sport is popular in Europe, it gained the attention of international audiences with the release of Netflix's Formula 1 documentary series, "Drive to Survive." In a 2022 poll from Morning Consult , 53% of nearly 1,900 F1 fans said the series contributed to their interest in the sport.

However, we've been dedicated F1 fans long before the series launched in 2019, and have always considered the Monaco Grand Prix the best race on the calendar.

Like many fans, we were willing to splurge to see some of our favorite drivers and were excited to attend the event this past May. We purchased a package from F1 Experiences for £15,220, or about $19,370, with a $1,610 yacht party add-on. The package for my partner and me included a hotel stay , two days of live racing, and transportation to and from the event.

From an unbelievable balcony view of the racetrack to cheering on a historic win, here's what the experience was like.

We stayed at a hotel in Nice, France.

superyacht podium

We stayed four nights at the Hyatt Regency Nice Palais de la Méditerranée on the French Riviera, a 30-to-40-minute drive from Monaco.

Our hotel-room balcony overlooked the stunning Côte d'Azur region, and we were within walking distance of Nice's historic and charming old town.

We prepared for the high-energy weekend by celebrating at a yacht party.

superyacht podium

To fully experience the glamorous lifestyle in Monaco, we indulged in a yacht party on Friday night. This experience was an add-on to our overall package, and it cost £1,265, or about $1,610.

We boarded the boat and were greeted with glasses of Champagne. The bottomless drinks and canapés flowed as the onboard DJ pumped music, drowning out the sounds of nearby boats.

As dusk turned to nightfall, the partygoers seemed to buzz with anticipation for the excitement the weekend had to offer — and we couldn't wait.

On Saturday, I was excited to finally attend the main event, the Grand Prix.

superyacht podium

On Saturday, we boarded a coach bus to Monaco and headed to the Ermanno Penthouse to watch the race. There, we climbed up 12 flights of stairs for a taste of Monégasque luxury.

The Penthouse's balcony terrace — overlooking the Port Hercules marina, stacked with at least 250 yachts — gave us an unbelievable panoramic view of Monaco's shimmering blue coastline and at least two-thirds of the racetrack.

From our viewpoint, we could see the start and finish line, up the hill toward the Casino de Monte-Carlo, the racetrack's tunnel exit, around the marina, and even the champions' podium.

We felt the thrill of the race from our balcony.

superyacht podium

Saturday's qualifying session was electrifying. Throughout the day, we saw the Formula 3 and Formula 2 sprint races, which typically feature aspiring F1 drivers . Then, we saw the F1 free practice three, which served as a practice round for F1 drivers to fine-tune their skills.

Lastly, we saw the F1 qualifying race, which determined each driver's place on the grid for Sunday's event.

I did notice, however, that my fiancé and I seemed to be two of the very few true F1 fans on the balcony. Many of our neighbors appeared to be new to the sport and seemed more interested in selfies or sparkling wine.

We enjoyed food and drinks as well.

superyacht podium

Not only could we see much of Monaco from the balcony, but also we enjoyed warm hospitality from the staff.

The staff members served various snacks and offered as much Champagne, spirits, and soft drinks as we wanted. For breakfast, we had croissants and pain au chocolat with coffee, followed by finger sandwiches, sliders, canapés, and tasty desserts.

We even had a few celebrity sightings.

superyacht podium

Celebrating the same event as A-list celebrities like John Legend , Anya Taylor-Joy, and Kylian Mbappé felt like a real pinch-me moment — though we only caught glimpses of them in the VIP area on TV screens showing sports coverage, the same way viewers would see them on television.

The celebrities at the Grand Prix, which took place just after the star-studded Cannes Film Festival, made it feel like the spot to be.

We saw a race-car collision from our balcony.

superyacht podium

Unfortunately, the weekend wasn't all positive. During the first lap of Sunday's F1 race, we saw a massive crash involving several drivers who couldn't continue in the event.

On a more positive note, we saw our favorite driver win the Grand Prix.

superyacht podium

The highlight of the weekend was cheering Ferrari F1 driver and Monégasque Charles Leclerc on to his first-ever victory at the Monaco Grand Prix.

As Leclerc's bright-red Ferrari zoomed by with a clear lead on his last lap, a symphony of boats blared their horns, and the crowd erupted in cheers. Leclerc is also the first Monégasque driver to win the race in over 90 years.

We watched the Champagne showers and celebrations on the podium, and my fiancé and I shared a kiss (and a few happy tears). It was the perfect end to an unforgettable weekend.

Overall, we were so glad we got to attend the Monaco Grand Prix.

superyacht podium

Overall, attending the Grand Prix in person was worth the money for us. We saw our favorite driver achieve a historic F1 milestone on a legendary track along a beautiful European coastline.

Though I wouldn't say it's worth the splurge for those who don't follow F1, plenty of guests on our balcony were there for the vibes, the flowing drinks, and the lush atmosphere.

We'd consider attending another F1 Grand Prix in the future. Still, our first taste of Monaco had our hearts racing — and the experience will be incredibly tough to top.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

superyacht podium

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

superyacht podium

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

superyacht podium

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

superyacht podium

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

superyacht podium

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

superyacht podium

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

superyacht podium

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.

Australia's swimmers are being urged to channel the spirit of the nation's famed upset of the United States on different waters to snap a 68-year Olympic hoodoo.

Australia have not beaten the Americans on an Olympic swimming medal table since the 1956 Games in Melbourne.

Since then, the United States have taken top billing at the pool at every Olympics bar 1980 and 1988, when drug-fuelled East German swimmers prevailed.

But Swimming Australia's head coach Rohan Taylor is bullish about the prospects for his 41-strong team for the Paris Games starting next month.

"This team is going to give it a good shake," Taylor said.

"But the Americans, there's a reason they haven't been beaten since 1956 - they're just extremely competent when it comes to the Olympics, this is where they step up.

"They have got the depth, they've got the numbers, they've got the experience.

"We're going to go there and do everything we can to create an environment for these (Australian) athletes, first and foremost, to do their best.

"A lot of them actually have rivalries that aren't just the US, but the US just happens to be in a lot of events.

"But I look at 68 years of them topping the Olympics and I tell you, it's almost like an America's Cup type of thing - no one has been able to take them down."

Australia famously won the America's Cup yachting event in 1983, ending a 126-year long New York Yacht Club stranglehold.

At last year's world swim championships in Japan, Australia led the medal table with 13 golds to the United States' seven.

Taylor said the key to replicating that feat in Paris was converting performances at selection trials to the Olympics.

He has crunched the numbers: 90 per cent of swimming medals since Sydney 2000 have come from athletes ranked in the top eight entering an Olympics, the majority coming from the top five.

This year's rankings won't be finalised until after the US selection trials currently underway in Indianapolis.

"We know that if you get in the top five and you convert, you have got a good chance of standing on the podium," he said.

At the Tokyo Games three years ago, Australian swimmers won a record nine golds - and 21 medals overall.

But with the same number of top-five ranked swimmers in Rio in 2016, the nation collected just three gold among 10 medals at the pool.

"What we've seen since probably Tokyo, where we really shot up, is the majority, over 60 per cent of our swims, were equal or better than what they did at trials," Taylor said.

"So we seem to be getting it right and that's why results start falling that way.

"It's when we don't have those conversions (that) we miss those opportunities to get on the podium."

President Biden appeared to freeze up on stage and had to be led off by Barack Obama at the conclusion of a star-studded campaign fundraiser in Los Angeles Saturday night.

The awkward moment took place after Biden and his predecessor sat for a 45-minute interview with late-night host Jimmy Kimmel at the Peacock Theater.

As the men stood for applause, Biden’s gaze seemed to become fixed on the crowd for a full 10 seconds until former President Barack Obama took his wrist and led him offstage.

Biden and former President Barack Obama share a laugh during a star-studded campaign fundraiser at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

The incident follows a spate of caught-on-camera moments where Biden appeared dazed or confused about where he was, including when he appeared to wander off at the G7 summit in Apulia, Italy, during parachute exhibition.

In that instance, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stepped in to gently take Biden’s hand and lead him back in time for a group photo with other world leaders.

The Biden campaign raised more than $30 million at the event, which was attended by Hollywood luminaries like George Clooney, Julia Roberts and Barbra Streisand.

The event was also swarmed by  hundreds of anti-Israel protesters , who attempted to block entry to the ritzy gala — tickets for which ranged from $250 to $500,000.

Police officers run to control the protesters gathered outside the theater in Los Angeles on Saturday.

Dozens of police clad in riot gear formed a line outside the theater to prevent the protesters’ advance, who shouted jeers at the President including “Biden, Biden you’re a liar, we demand a ceasefire.”

The group also waved Palestinian flags and chanted “From the river to the sea, Palestine will live forever,” a slight variation on a slogan the Antidefamation League says calls for the eradication of Israel.

No arrests were made, according to the LAPD.

The $30 million haul — reportedly the most a Democratic candidate has ever raised in a single night — comes at a time when the Biden campaign is trying desperately to blunt the fundraising momentum of former President Donald Trump.

Trump  raised more than $50 million  during an April fundraiser in Florida, and took in tens of millions more after he was  found guilty last month  in his historic “hush money” trial.

Jimmy Kimmel helped host the fundraiser.

Biden and Obama, as well as First Lady Jill Biden, stirred up the crowd with a collection of common talking points.

The trip hit Trump on everything from the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, to moving the Supreme Court to the right, to threatening retaliation against his political adversaries.

Troubling polling for the Biden administration in recent weeks shows the incumbent  lagging Trump in key states  such as Arizona, Nevada and Florida.

A particularly ominous survey from Marist College earlier this week even shows Trump has  carved out a small lead  even in Biden’s boyhood state of Pennsylvania, with a majority of registered voters saying they were better off under the former president.

In an email, the White House hit back at critics who were troubled by the Biden footage, claiming they were, “once again by pretending the President taking in an applauding crowd for a few seconds is somehow wrong.”

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

<< Previous page

Pages:  379-406

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.

Keywords: Tuva, Early Iron Age, early Scythian period, Aldy-Bel culture, barrow, burial in the coffin, mummy, full genome sequencing, aDNA
