MIHA BRESKVAR

After graduating from mechanical engineering and completing my bachelor's degree at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science, I continued my formal education at IEDC Business School, where I got my MBA degree.

My career started in a development team of the system for online stock exchange trading at brokerage company CBPD. Later on, I worked for Lexpera, where I was responsible for the technical and business development of one of the best legal information system IUS-INFO.

In 2013 I started my own business as a co-founder, partner, and CEO of FrodX d.o.o. – a company that consults and technically supports the biggest companies worldwide to help them grow their revenues online, such as Canon, SAP, Microsoft, Velux, Addiko Bank, Generali, Fraport, etc.

As well as helping companies to sell the way their customers want to buy, sailing is an important part of my life. During my student years, I built a racing boat with which my team and I won dozens of regattas. While making more than several thousand of nautical miles on various sailboats, I've gained a lot of valuable nautic and life lessons and experience. I've used my sailing knowledge, skills, and experience to teach more than 500 people how to sail, from 2018 I'm using them as a partner of Pegasus Yachts in order to build a modern blue water cruiser, Pegasus 50.

Dr. ERNST THOMKE

I have been sailing for 50 years, during which time I have owned 4 yachts. The first of these, I built myself and the others I commissioned, and they were built to my specific requirement. These proved to be successful and close to what I needed, but the Pegasus is the first to fulfil all my needs and expectations.

Pegasus enables me to cross oceans single-handed or with a crew of friends and always feel safe, comfortable and exhilarated.

Pegasus 50 most significant difference is the concept – a bluewater sailing yacht with a well-protected covered cockpit, 360-degree vision in the saloon and gimballed saloon sofa, and double insulation for the engine, which is sited away from the living and sleeping areas of the yacht. She also provides safe movement for her crew with only a few steps and good access to well-proven equipment that is easily maintained.

New features on Shipman carbon sailing yachts

Seaway technologies srl.

Carbon yacht line with new features Shipman with gimballed salon and carbon standing rigging

press release - for immediate release

Monfalcone (Italy) 16.01.2011

Shipman presents two new features on the first yacht built in the new shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. The luxury single-handed pilothouse high-performance carbon yacht line in size of 63, 72 and 80 feet with performance spirit, recently also successfully taking part on major regattas, features the Hall Spars SCR/S carbon standing rigging. The unprecedented full panoramic salon view is now completed by a fully gimballed settee and table of salon. Greenline 40 Hybrid, Skagen 70 and many other novelties are coming from the Seaway Group.

Seaway, the builder of the Shipman brand, company with almost 30 years of history and 33 Boat of the Year titles, started to build the Shipman in Monfalcone, Italy. The new yard has direct access to the sea and sports the Europe’s biggest milling machine. Shipman 63, 72 and 80 are currently in production. The plans for the bigger sister a100 footer were presented in april at the last Shipman Cup, a yearly gathering of the owners and members of the Shipman family spread all over the world.

Tradition and expertise “Since the very beginning it has been our tradition to work closely with top world experts in most extreme sailing conditions in regattas like Vandée Globe or America’s Cup,” says Japec Jakopin, one of the two brothers founders. Seaway is the leading boat design, engineering and tooling company working for production boatbuilders.Beside Shipman, Seaway builds Skagen power boats and Greenline 33 Hybrid, the revolutionary green newcomer of the last season.

Carbon standing rigging Shipman’s unprecedented full panoramic view from salon and other extraordinary features awarded in the past are now complemented by two new novelties. Hagazussa III, on show in Cannes, has the new Hall Spars SCR/S carbon standing rigging. Aerodynamically profiled, this type of standing rigging is lighter and produces less windage and drag than any other existing system. This gives the boat quantifiable speed improvement.

Ambient intelligence on board The second feature, the heel adjustable salon settee and table , can be easily put in the category of ambient intelligence. Sensors calculate average heel of the sailboat and send information to two cylinders that regulate the settee level. This automatically aligns the settee with water level and offers great comfort to the sailors during sailing with the heeled boat in a seaway. This feature is one of the most important innovations in single-handed racing and allowed Shipman co-engineer Michel Desjoyeaux to win the last round of the world single handed race in comfort.

Novelties for all Seaway brands Seaway R&D department has brought many fascinating improvements in the past creating over 250 sail and powerboats and the innovative energy is still producing new ideas that can be seen on products of all three brands owned by the group. Greenline 40 Hybrid is based on the success of her smaller sister, the Greenline 33 Hybrid. Introduced in September 2009 the Greenline 33 found over 100 owners throughout Europe in the first year. The new model is designed as a larger yacht of the same philosophy of efficiency and comfort, while protecting the environment and the owner from noise, smoke and waves. For Greenline was developed the tank-tested and protected Superdisplacement hull which shows optimum performance in all sea conditions. Its benefits - comfortable, safe ride, easy manoeuvring and low running costs - are included also in the new Skagen 70. This raised pilothouse motoryacht offers long range voyaging, self sufficient capacities and systems for long distance cruising now improved with this registered innovation of Seaway.

Carlo Giordano, the director of the new Shipyard, summarised the plans for Shipman brand: “The production capacity of the Monfalcone shipyard and experience gained in building of almost 40 customised carbon boats with use of most sophisticated technologies and materials opens us the possibility to approach the market group of sailing enthusiasts with precise requirements. We consider to enrich the Shipman brand, in last years focused on the carbon line, with a new line featuring the unique style, reliability and speed necessary for ocean crossing, but for a more value-oriented price than other customised boats.”

Shipman’s History in Brief In 1968, first Shipman was built on the island Visby, Sweden. In two decades Shipman becomes one of the best known sailing brands in Scandinavia and Northern Europe . In 1992 Shipman 8 m One Design is born, designed by J&J design and built by Seaway. Ten years later Shipman is acquired by Seaway and the development of the first carbon-built Shipman 50 starts. In 2004 Shipman 50 wins the European boat of the year title over all categories. A year later Shipman 63 sets sail and wins European boat of the year title in 2006. The success continues with Shipman 72 and 80 launched in 2008 . Almost forty Shipman carbon yachts are now cruising the seas around the world. The owners and other members of the Shipman family annually gather in April at Shipman Cup. This year the perpetual trophy was won by the Nadejda team.

Safety, first of all

Pegasus 50 is a bluewater model designed for safe shorthanded performance sailing and a comfortable liveaboard experience with maximum freedom and complete independence. Safety is Pegasus’s key feature. This consists of design solutions, like the covered, well protected cockpit, substantial stanchions and 360° view from the saloon.

shipman carbon yachts

Deep cockpit, protected from spray, sun heat and rain. Without high loaded movable main sheet and with sail controls moved aft from seats to the steering position is optimized for safe and comfort shorthanded operation.

The interiors

The saloon with a 360° view is designed for pleasant sailing and the horizon is always visible to prevent sea-sickness. The sleeping cabins are far from any noise and vibration thanks to the insulated engine and technical area.

bluewater sailboats

The saloon and cabins are positioned as close to the centre of moment for minimum jaw, pitch and roll, whilst at sea. The hard top sprayhood protects the cockpit from the elements and the stern provides a private beach with easy access to the sea.

pegasus 50 bluewater

Moving through the yacht is easy thanks to the one-level, seamlessly connected cockpit and saloon; so forget about climbing steep companionway steps. There is a special bonus: a gimbaled mechanism that keeps the saloon sofa in a horizontal position even when the yacht is heeled.

pegasus 50 bluewater

Maintenance and repairs can be done comfortably, without the need for crawling into or working in tight spaces. The technical compartments are spacious, split by function and easy to reach. Important yacht functions for comfort and safety are designed to last.

Shipman 50 wins European Yacht of the Year

Yachting World

  • January 18, 2004

Matthew Sheahan reports on the winners at the awards ceremony in Dusseldorf

At a prestigious evening ceremony at the Dusseldorf Boat Show on the opening night, the Shipman 50 won the European Yacht of the Year award. The 50 foot performance cruiser also won the award for the most innovative boat of the year.

The aft cockpit deck saloon cruiser designed by Slovenian based J&J Design, impressed the international panel of judges with her creative design and impressive performance under sail. But it was her overall construction and price tag that attracted the most interest.

Constructed entirely from pre-preg carbon using SP Systems’ Sprint laminate, the Shipman 50 uses similar materials in her layup to those more commonly found aboard top racing yachts, but at a fraction of the price with a price tag of £300,000 ex VAT. A large part of the cost saving comes down to her construction in which all the components of her structure are bonded to the hull and deck without using any secondary laminating. Savings are also achieved through the use of the five axis milling machine which produced much of the tooling for moulds.

Of the remaining five categories the winners were;

Under 10m – Dragonfly 920 Extreme, a Danish built folding trimaran with exceptional performance for a cruiser.

10-12m – Dufour 34 – A simple and appealing cruiser racer from one of France’s top production builders

12-15m – Dehler 47 – The new 47ft flagship to the Dehler range

15m – Najad 511 – A bluewater cruiser from Swedish builders Najad

Priest is one of four brands within the yachting division of the Slovenian group of companies >Seaway, which is based on the design Bureau J&J Design . Yachts with this name were built in Sweden in 1968, but after the acquisition of Seaway rights to it in 2002, the brand had started a new life. Brothers Jernej and APEC Iacopini , who participated in the development of more than 270 yachts, decided to create sailboats that allow you to indulge in comfortable rest anywhere in the world, but at the same time preserve the key characteristics serious ocean vessel.

the Shipyard Shipman was one of the first launched in serial production of high-tech composite boats using proprietary advanced technology Carbon-Epoxy , which are characterized by excellent seaworthiness, high cruising speed, good handling and reliability.

the Lineup includes the Shipman carbon yachts 60 to 100 feet, which are constructed on the principle of semi-custom, and is intended for worldwide cruising with minimal crew. in addition, the company strives to introduce their products and more modern developments, including environmental hybrid power-plant safe and practical layout of decks and rigging and sailing arms Shipman was attended by the winner of a single race >Vendee Globe 2000/2001 >Michelle Desuyo.

in the Spring of 2015 began the process of bankruptcy Shipman, and the capacities of the shipyard was leased by the Russian representative Shipman, Vladimir Zinchenko . Russian customers can have peace of mind by placing an order on the yacht at the shipyard: all obligations to them are fulfilled, and successful operation of Zinchenko for several years suggests that worry for the future of the brand for no reason.

Ride1Up CF Racer1 review: Testing the lowest cost quality carbon fiber gravel/road e-bike

Avatar for Micah Toll

In the world of electric bikes, the words “carbon fiber” usually means big bucks. Actually, it’s the same in the pedal bike industry, it’s just that e-bikes already start out more expensive. That means carbon fiber electric bikes have always commanded premium prices – at least, until now. When Ride1Up rolled out the new CF Racer1 e-bike, it shook up the electric gravel bike market with a reasonably priced direct-to-consumer model that can scratch that lightweight e-bike itch for more hardcore riders.

Priced at $2,295 , the CF Racer1 is around half the price that most other carbon fiber gravel e-bikes start at, let alone the even nicer models whose prices head even further north.

But just because it’s a lower-cost bike doesn’t mean it’s cheap. It may not have the most insanely top-shelf components on it, but it’s got a great mix of quality parts and features to fit the needs of the majority of enthusiast riders. If you’re a pro rider, you’re going to be looking at different bikes entirely.

And since Ride1Up focuses on that larger swath of recreational, commuter, and enthusiast riders, the direct-to-consumer sales model means you aren’t paying a big bike shop markup, either.

See the CF Racer1 in action in my video review below, then keep reading for even more info!

A different kind of riding

The CF Racer1 is a different kind of electric bike intended for a different kind of rider. If you’re familiar with most direct-to-consumer e-bike companies out there, Ride1Up included, then you’ll know the typical D2C e-bike . We’re talking chunky tires, robust (i.e. heavy) frame, throttle activation, budget shifters, etc. You won’t find any of those parts on this e-bike.

That’s because the CF Racer1 is more of a cyclist’s bike. Those drop bars are par for the course in road bikes, but we almost never see them on common budget-minded electric bikes. Same goes for the SRAM Rival 1 shifters, which you press sideways to upshift or press even harder in the same direction to downshift. They certainly feel new to most casual riders (I find myself on bikes with these types of shifters usually just once or twice a year, for example), but they’re easy to use and give you that quality feel that the cheap Shimano stuff on entry-level fat tire bikes just doesn’t have.

The drop bars allow you to lean more forward and get a tighter tuck, which is useful when you’re trying to maintain that top speed of 28 mph and not fight against your own body’s meat sail. However, I find I’m usually up on the horns to sit taller, as I’m not a huge fan of super tucked riding. And when I really want a taller view of the road, I grip the middle portion of the bars for the most comfortable ride. The three positions are a big plus, though I basically never drop down into the lowest position, so it’s more like a two-position bar for me.

The biggest reason I hang out on the horns most of the time is because I also like knowing those brake levers are ready for me, both in city riding in case of unexpected car behavior, and while trail riding in case I come across an obstacle I wasn’t expecting.

shipman carbon yachts

Ultra-light, but at a cost

And then of course there’s the carbon fiber frame, which, along with the modest battery and motor specs helps to reduce the weight of the bike to a mere 28 pounds! That’s a featherweight in the e-bike world, believe it or not.

That low weight means you won’t get crazy power or super long-range riding, though you can still get up to 30-40 miles if you keep the pedal assist in a very low power level. And while the 250W motor is fairly low power compared to most of the e-bikes I ride, it’s not meant to be a hot rod. It’s a modest torque motor designed for folks who actually want to pedal and get a workout. It will still take you up to 28 mph – it sure did for me. But you’ve got to be a part of that process, giving your own muscle assist as well in order for the pedal assist to take you to that top speed. In other words, it’s taking the pain out of the ride but it’s not doing all the work for you.

It feels like a good balance of power though, especially on such a lightweight e-bike.

One more part I wish I could have seen added to the electrical system would be a torque sensor. As it stands now, the cadence sensor works fine for riding, but has a bit of sensor lag when you first get rolling – especially if you don’t downshift low enough at stops. That impacts you more in stop/start riding, but for folks who spend long periods of time at constant speed – which is a lot of what this e-bike is designed for – then you won’t notice the cadence sensor very much.

shipman carbon yachts

More than paint deep

There are two colors available on the Ride1Up CF Racer1, known as Clouded Gray and Rainbow Black. The bike I’m testing is the Rainbow Black, which may sound like an oxymoron until the sun comes out. As soon as you get some bright light on the paint, it illuminates with a rainbow array of metal flakes, producing a beautiful spectrum of light reflecting off the glossy surface.

It’s hard to capture in photos and videos, though I did my best in the photo above. You can also see a few good shots in my video review at the top of this page. Just know that in real life, the effect is even more pronounced and is truly beautiful to look at.

On the flipside though, when you’re riding in overcast weather, you’ll find that the paint basically just looks like glossy black.

shipman carbon yachts

The take-home message

Here’s the thing: The Ride1Up CF Racer1 is a great e-bike, but it’s not for everyone. In fact, it’s not for most people. Most of us are more at home on a Portola fat tire e-bike or a Turris trail bike. You’ve got to be someone who already enjoys riding road bikes (meaning you like to pedal), who doesn’t mind the lack of throttle, and who is comfortable with a tucked ride. But if you’re in the market for a gravel e-bike, that’s probably already you.

In that case, this is a killer deal for a super lightweight carbon fiber electric bike. With options for road or gravel (basically different handlebars and tires), you’ve got all of your bases covered.

So yeah, if you’re a pro rider, this isn’t going to cut it for you. But if you’re like most of us – just someone who enjoys riding and wants to get that electric gravel bike experience without shelling out $5k, then this is the bike for you.
