Oyster 41 is a 39 ′ 7 ″ / 12.1 m monohull sailboat designed by Stephen Jones and built by Landamores Yacht Builders and Oyster Marine between 1980 and 1987.

The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3

• SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
• D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Ballast / Displacement * 100

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.

D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³

• D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
• LWL: Waterline length in feet

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )

• D: Displacement of the boat in pounds
• LOA: Length overall in feet
• Beam: Width of boat at the widest point in feet

Capsize Screening Formula

This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.

Designed by Stephen Jones and built to exacting standards, these swift and spacious yachts have proven themselves to be race winners. This includes five firsts in Cowes Week, RORC Yacht of the year 1985, The Alan Paul Trophy for consistent performance and a class win in the 1985 Fastnet Race. Even by todays standards, the Oyster 41 is a very fast sailing yacht and could still hold it’s own in ORC/IRC regattas.

The accommodation, with it’s smart dark wood finish, has acres of room, plenty of headroom and berths for eight. There’s a full size nav table, a large practical galley and a massive storage / lazarette locker accessible from both the aft cabin & cockpit. Although there is a fairly basic layout at the moment, this could be made into a great family living space. The forward cabin which is currently used for storage could also be converted into further accommodation if required.

If you want a yacht to win races or to make swift passage in comfort to your favourite destinations, this vessel is definitely worth consideration. There is a lot of quality yacht here at a good price.

An IOR One Tonner designed by Stephen Jones the Oyster 41 is a fast racer/cruiser. Twenty-three were built between 1980 and 1987. Racing successes included five firsts in Cowes Week, RORC Yacht of the Year 1985, Alan Paul Trophy for consistent performance and a class win in the 1985 Fastnet Race.Somewhere masthead rigged and some ¾ rigged, and most are now sailed as fast and attractive cruising yachts. This example has a fine pedigree coming 4th in class in the 2016 RTIR and winner of the unrated Cruiser Class in the 2016 Torbay Regatta. A very spacious Yacht with enormous volume down below set out in a Stately polished wood style. Benefiting from 2014 sails and a refurbished Hull, she is regularly sailed and kept in good condition throughout.

History of Oyster Yachts

Oyster Yachts is a world-renowned manufacturer of luxury sailing yachts, with more than 40 years of history in the industry. Founded in 1973 in Great Yarmouth, a town on the East Coast of England, the company has since become a recognised leader in the production of high-quality sailing vessels.

The company moved to Wroxham in Norfolk in 1979, where their first launch of a luxurious cruising yacht - the Oyster 25P took place. By 1982, Oyster Yachts had developed a strong presence in the European boat market and had become a key name in sailing events around the world.

In 2017, Oyster Yachts underwent a major restructuring due to challenging market conditions. This restructuring paved the way for a new investment programme with a plan to expand and increase production levels. As a result, the company has seen a resurgence, and now boasts one of the best ranges of luxury sailing yachts on the market today.

This depends on the buyer's situation but, on average, it takes four to six weeks to buy a brokerage yacht from first enquiry to signing the paperwork.
