Yard Profile: Greenline Yachts

The revitalised Slovenian yard is stepping up a gear with the launch of a new range of semi-custom OceanClass motor yachts from 58ft to 110ft

Sponsored post

Our journey began in 2004 when my wife and I decided to turn our lives upside down,” says Vladimir Zinchenko, the owner of Greenline Yachts. “My lifelong romance was sailing and the sea. We left Russia and bought a yacht in Germany, setting sail for the Caribbean.

“The journey lasted seven years and our destination was finding a place to settle down. After 250,000 miles, six Atlantic crossings and close to 60 countries, we finally arrived in Slovenia.” Now, Zinchenko is at the helm of Slovenia’s largest yacht producer, SVP Yachts, the parent company behind Greenline Yachts.

Since purchasing the yard in 2015, he has been investing heavily in the business, expanding production and extending the range. Now he’s on a mission to transform the brand’s image from a manufacturer of popular hybrid-powered craft to a builder of high-quality, seakindly, user-friendly motor yachts that can also be offered with the option of hybrid power.

Central to this change is the launch of a new range of luxurious semi-custom motor yachts. The first of these exciting new craft, the OceanClass 65, was unveiled at the Cannes Yachting Festival last year and will soon be joined by 98ft and 58ft sister ships. There is even talk of an OceanClass 110 in the future.

As with every Greenline Yacht over 50ft, the OceanClass 65 is built to RCD Category A rating for extended offshore voyages.

The OceanClass 65

Much like owning a luxury SUV, this gives enormous confidence in the boat’s strength and seakeeping, even if you never intend to test these limits yourself.

Just as important for most OceanClass owners is the comfort, convenience and safety this craft can offer. Single-level living and a low centre of gravity is a core design philosophy of every Greenline and the 65 has only two small steps separating the bathing platform from the cockpit, plus another small step in the saloon.

Greenline-65-Oceanclass20170923_0593_176556321_271441571

The saloon of the OceanClass 65

Large fuel and water tanks combined with a stable and efficient hull design give an exceptional unrefuelled cruising range of over 2,000nm at a comfortable 7 knots. For occasions when time is of the essence, a choice of powerful CAT engines gives a top speed of up to 30 knots.

The standard lower deck layout features a spacious full-beam owner’s cabin amidships and a VIP cabin in the bow, both with large hull windows, as well as a third double ensuite guest cabin. The full-length flybridge is perfect for entertaining with a large dining table, wet bar and a fully equipped outside helm under the shade of a neatly integrated hardtop.

The OceanClass 65’s spacious master cabin

Twin CAT engines of 850hp to 1,150hp combine effortless performance with refined cruising and the reliability needed to cross oceans with confidence. These can be supplemented with optional twin 60kW electric engines for seamless hybrid running. Whatever power source you choose, the OceanClass 65 is a true home from home that will take you wherever you want to go in comfort and safety.

The rest of the range

Greenline-range_176556351_271441571

The Greenline range

Greenline’s owner is investing heavily in new model development. The existing range of Greenline 33, 39 and 40 coupés and the 48 Fly are about to be joined by a new 48 coupé as well as an exciting new outboard-powered 10m craft in both open and coupé versions. 2019 will be an even busier year for Greenline, with a new 44 Fly and coupé both scheduled for launch as well as an OceanClass 58. The 95 and 110 will be custom built to order when required.

The build process

5-axis-milling-machine_176556251_271441571

The shipyard’s 5-axis milling machine

Greenline Yachts are tooled using high-precision five-axis milling machines to create the moulds for one of the world’s most efficient production processes. All its craft are moulded using vacuum infusion and osmosis-resistant vinylester resin to optimise weight and strength. Experienced craftsmen then hand-finish the interior using traditional skills.

The hybrid option

Hybrid power isn’t just about being kinder on the environment, it’s also about making life on board more comfortable. The integrated electric motors allow you to leave a marina or anchorage without disturbing your guests or neighbours and cruise for up to 20nm in near silence.

Greenline-65-Oceanclass20170922_0530_176556301_271441571

Hybrid power is key to Greenline’s appeal

Thanks to the powerful LiPo battery and optional solar panels, it also provides a constant source of 230V power for appliances such as the fridge, freezer, microwave, TV, air conditioning and charging devices, without the need for a noisy diesel generator or shorepower.

The buying experience

Because the OceanClass 65 is a semi-custom build, every customer will be assigned a project manager to help plan their boat. Anything the customer asks for will be taken into consideration and priced up, provided it’s possible.

This includes the choice of engines, cabin layouts or even a coupé version, as well as a wide range of fit and finishes. The yard can only produce four to five units per year so exclusivity and a personalised service is guaranteed.

Greenline Yachts: The Complete Guide to Greenline Yachts

greenline yachts wikipedia

Last Updated on April 14, 2022 by Boatsetter Team

Green by name, green by nature.

A relatively new entry to the boating industry, Greenline Yachts has revolutionized yachting with a range of innovative and environmentally friendly features. This is boating that does not cost the earth.

The History of Greenline Yachts

Greenline Yachts was launched in 2008. As all great ideas do, they began life on the drawing board. Greenline yachts became a bestseller just one year later, selling more than 550 units of their Greenline 33 in over 28 countries. Its dedicated team of engineers and designers had built a safe, comfortable, and elegant boat.

But it did not stop there. In 2010, just two years after their launch, Greenline’s maiden production, the Greenline 33, became an international bestseller. New boats followed rapidly in 2011, 2013, 2016.

In 2019, the Greenline 48 Coupe premiered in Dusseldorf, Germany, where it amazed onlookers. Since then, the company has grown and continued to innovate, inspire and raise the bar. Who knows what the future holds for this firebrand?

The features of a Greenline Yacht.

Innovation. Innovation. Innovation. Ever since their introduction of the first-ever hybrid boat, which combined diesel and electricity, in 2008, Greenline has revolutionized the boating industry. They have set the bar as a pioneering, forward -thinking, and game-changing boatbuilder. Their vision is to shape the future of boating into environmentally sustainable and, in doing so, establish themselves as the most responsible boat brand in the world.

The designers at Greenline know that their customers want to be at one with the ocean. They want to plunge themselves into the big blue, explore it, conquer it, all without leaving a trace, preserving it for future generations to enjoy too. With their expansive range of hybrid and fully electric boats , this dream is made a reality.

Each model is powered by renewable sources of energy and fitted with solar panels, so it won’t be only the passengers who are soaking up the rays! Greenline yachts use organic boat wash and biodegradable rubbish bags, as well as being built of eco-friendly fabrics, such as PET foam core, grass paper, and recycled materials.

But this is at no sacrifice to speed or performance. Greenline Yachts boasts a range of innovative technological features that will ensure you stay top of the pack. Greenline Yachts are the only range of yachts currently in production that offers H-Drive as well as E-Drive; they have built-in vacuum infusion technology. In contrast to conventional yachts, this means that their boats have optimal weight and robustness, higher quality of material, alongside being kind to the environment.

Low centers of gravity ensure that the utmost levels of safety and comfort are maintained on and below the deck . This comes from Greenline’s technical mastery in placing all the heavy components of the boat in the deepest part of the hull , which renders the vessel more impervious to rolling and increases stability – even in the choppiest of waters!

Of course, all Greenline models are built to a highly sophisticated level. They harness the best of modern technology, especially in tooling and prototyping, and the inherited wisdom of the past in handcrafting to build arguably some of the world’s most advanced boats. Tradition and experience blended seamlessly with the cutting-edge and futuristic.

The Greenline Range

Here at  Boatsetter , we are proud to offer a range of Greenline Yachts for rental. In fact, they are a key part of our  new ecological and green  boating rentals.

Despite its age, Greenline Yachts flaunts an impressive product range in the world, with nearly 8 models currently on the waves (although more are in the pipeline). There is the entry-level Greenline 33 Flybridge series up to the 68 OC. The 33, 39, 40, 45 Coupe, 45 Fly, 48 Coupe, 48 Fly, and the 68 OC.

Thanks to Boatsetter’s  peer-to-peer  boat renting service, sampling one of these beauties has never been easier. Boatsetter has Greenline Yachts which are available from multiple sites across the United States, Europe, and beyond. Many of Boatsetter’s rentals offer the opportunity to enhance your experience with jet skis, electronic surfboards, and sea bobs. Time to hit the waves.

The Greenline 33

Where it all began.

Measuring in at 32’9″ (9.99m), the Greenline 33 is a splendid yacht containing 1 salon (plus an optional bunk ), 7 berths and 1 bathroom. It has a fuel capacity of 132 gal (500L) and can hold 80 gal of freshwater (300L).

The Greenline 33 has a hybrid and electric drive and conventional diesel options, true to their pioneering spirit. Its Volvo Penta D3 can deliver speeds of up to 11 knots and 170 HP. Their decade of experience in hybrid engines means that this is the ideal system for performance and efficiency while ensuring that your passengers remain comfortable on the deck.

A signature feature of the Greenline 33 is its Aft Galley , which combines the cockpit and galley into a fabulous and inviting social area. There is no single step between the bathing platform and the helmsman position to ensure one level of living throughout the boat.

And with 360-degree panoramic views from the inside, natural light will delight your senses!

The Greenline 39

The big brother of the 33, the Greenline 39 is beefy with a beam of 12’4″ and accommodation for up to six people. Friends, family or business colleagues, you name it, you can bring them. Wishing to lavish your passengers in comfort and grace, the designers at Greenline have fitted the 39 with a bank of solar panels, which you can use for all the boat’s appliances, whether you are at sea or having a drink at the port . Even better, this means that the boat does not make a sound. No noise. No vibrations. No emissions. No disturbances. Nothing. Just you …

And the seagulls.

The 39 has high-performance LiPo Batteries 2 x 13.3 kWh in its hybrid edition, which have a charging rate of 8 kWh/day. Depending on your energy management and the weather conditions, this translates as 2 days on anchor, while using the full range of appliances that a family needs, including laptops, TVs, fridge and stove. Still, the non-hybrid is built with efficiency in mind. It consumes approximately 6.5 kWh/day for 4 people in a 24 hour period.

Looking at the exterior of the yacht, the cockpit and side decks are sheltered to afford your passengers maximum security and protection so that people of all ages and abilities can enjoy the weather. Plus, the Helmstand side door provides safe maneuvering throughout the boat.

The Greenline 40

The family favorite.

Biggest of all, the series provides the perfect venue for you to sit back with your family and enjoy. No work. No-fuss. Just sheer relaxation and comfort. With 2 cabins, a large salon, and a maximum of 6 berths, the Green 40 can cater to families of all shapes and sizes. And with a fuel capacity of 185 gal (700L) and water tank of 106 400L, there is no need to worry about running dry.

The Greenline 40 enjoys all of the Green technologies that makes Greenline so, well, green. It has 4 high performance LiPo batteries that allow the whole family to stay connected and entertained for 3 days on anchor. For those with more restrained usage, this can be more. Nonetheless, available as a diesel, electric or hybrid drive. This is a boat with green credentials.

For when the sun is dipping below the waves and it is time to relax, the Greenline 40 has an adaptive owners cabin , which supports a multiplicity of sleeping arrangements.

The Greenline 45 Coupe

Say hello to the ocean’s solar power plant.

Available as a Diesel Drive, Hybrid Drive or Electric Drive, the Greenline 45 can accommodate up to eight people with 2 or 3 spacious cabins, depending on customisation, and has two bathrooms. One of these cabins – yes, you guessed it, the master cabin – is full beam, meaning it is nearly 5 metres wide. What a treat. Its diesel tank has a large capacity of 396 gal (1,450L) and 159 gal (600) of freshwater, besides plenty of black water for whatever your needs.

Get ready to impress your guests with the homely natural wood table in the salon, and walk-in closet, and walk-in wardrobe for both cabins. Let the fashion shows commence.

But the Greenline 45 Coupe does not stop there. Like the previous models, it has EDrive technology. Built-in partnership with Torqeedo, this revolutionary technology provides silent, emission free propulsion along the waves, and integrated energy manages to run the boat’s domestic supply efficiently and ecologically. This is complemented by SIMRAD Navigation Electronics , complete with an extra-large navigation dashboard for your viewing pleasure.

Enough of the tech stuff. There is also a hydraulic bathing platform which can be raised or lowered to ensure easy, safe access to the waves.

The Greenline 48 Fly

Independence at its finest

On the outside this boat is unmistakable. It will turn heads at the port. Thanks to its smartly designed covered sidewalks, the flybridge on the yacht is extra-large. It is wider than most of the other boats in its class. =

Greenline knows that a holiday should be relaxation par excellence. This is why they have developed extra wide and protected side passages, with side doors that aid speedy jumping on and off the ship, and an extra protective hardtop option that is enriched with additional solar panels. While the traditional side anchor is standard, Green also offers the option for a boat anchor.

Full-sized freezer? Check. Wine cooler? Check. Extra-large owner bed? Check. The convertible salon of the Greenline 48 Fly, with an adjustable table, offers the opportunity to transform the main dining area into extra berths for when your guests want to hit the hay.

Below deck, the Greenline 48 Fly has 2 x Yanmar 8LV320 engines that generate speeds up to 20 knots and have 320 HP each. This will allow you to cruise at the perfect pace. There are 3, optionally 4, cabins and a maximum of 6 berths, 2 in the salon, and another. Besides, there are 3 bathrooms.

Still curious? Watch the renowned yachting critic  Boat Test  try one out.

The Greenline 68 Ocean Class

The extraordinary just got even more extraordinary.

The biggest yacht ever made by Greenline, the 68 Ocean Class is a force to be reckoned with. This yacht demonstrated to the world that the shipyard was knocking its boat, building up a gear. Read the  reviews  here!

If you want luxury, that remains environmentally sound, then look no further than the flagship of the Greenline Yachts family: the 68 Ocean Class.

Taking the open-plan to the next level, the world-class yacht has Greenline’s signature Aft Galley, which combines the cockpit and galley in a magnificent space for socializing. During the daytime, the whole interior of the boat is flooded with natural light due to the 360-degree panoramic windows. And for when the sunsets (or is high in the sky), there is an expansive wine cooler in which you can stow away your favorite bottle – or two.

Alongside providing extra protection to the craft, the 68 Ocean Class has a hardtop on the flybridge, which coincidentally creates an excellent diving platform. Ready to impress your crush? Just make sure that the water is deep enough.

68′ 3″ in length and with a 17′ 11″ beam, this behemoth will dominate any port or harbor. Or, if you fancy getting away from it all, the boat would be the perfect companion for you to visit your favorite coastline. Italy, Miami , or the Bahamas – you decide.

Testimonials from owners.

Greenline owners from all around the world

“What we also love is just anchor somewhere in the middle of nature without worrying about shore-power and still have all the luxury like we were at home.”

“It is ergonomically excellent, with the extended deck area enabling us to partake in more activities, more easily, such as divine, swimming. The cost per hour to “run” at 5.7litres of diesel, is envied by other boat users.”

“We upgraded our Greenline 33 to a Greenline 39. The 39 builds on the 33’s open, liveable, practical, modern attributes and adds more space, functionality and sea friendliness.”

“I have recently purchased a Greenline 39 and the sales experience and after sales service have been exceptional. The boat itself is incredible; it handles the big seas around Tasmania with ease”

“One level living concept ensures the movement on the deck is safe and effortless, ample AC power allows the use of normal home appliances onboard and solar roof makes sure you never run out of power.”

“Practical design and couldn’t find anything we liked on other flybridge that Greenline didn’t already have included as far as function is concerned.”

Greenline Hybrid System - How It Works

Your choice for responsible boating.

The hybrid system was launched in 2009 with Greenline 33 as the first production boat available with the Hybrid drive. With constant technological development, we now have the 5th generation of the Hybrid drive available.

Apart from the convenience of having 230v AC available at all times, the advantage of the hybrid drive is also the silent and emission-less navigation, which the boating community now calls “gentleman’s boating”. Why? Because only the Greenline Hybrid allows you to sail without disturbing your neighbors at the anchorage or in the marina. The Hybrid drive allows for up to 20 nautical miles at approximately 4-6.5 knots on a full charge which is more than enough for a typical leisure day on the water. The range can be increased to 40 nautical miles with an optional second lithium battery pack.

Watch How It Works:

Greenline Yachts is leading the charge in this exciting sphere of modern boating and has been producing solar-equipped hybrid boats since 2008. The Greenline hybrid concept uses four times less fossil fuel than a planing powerboat in similar conditions.

Every single yacht in the range can be specified as either hybrid or full electric, from the Greenline 33 to the opulent OceanClass 65. It doesn’t matter what the budget is or what style of boat is required, Greenline ensures that sustainable propulsion is available to all.

Watch now how it works and if the benefits convince you!

Hybrid-Drive System

Hybrid Drive Greenline Yachts

The protected hybrid system connects the 4 modes of the operation with full integration and simplicity. A control system simplifies the interface to the user via a single (Diesel/Electric) switch.

  • Simple maintenance
  • Ease of use
  • Use of electric energy for propulsion: the running cost of boating is 10 times lower than burning diesel fuel
  • Eliminating smoke, noise and vibration
  • 230 (120) V AC power system at any time, either at the dock or at sea

Electric-Drive System

Electric-Drive-Graphic

No Need for Wind to Cruise in Silence

Electric drive is the next logical step in the evolution and development of the Greenline Yachts range of environmentally friendly yachts.

Solar panels charge the service batteries to run all appliances with constant 230/120V AC power while the main engine battery is charged by shore power with charging time as short as 4 hours for a full charge.

The Electric-drive mode makes your cruising silent and enjoyable while being responsible towards the environment and friendly to your pocket.

  • Silent navigation
  • Longer range
  • Environmentally friendly boating

Diagrams of Electric-Drive Systems

Electric-Drive-Greenline-33

Modes of Operation

The hybrid system offers four modes of operation that make switching between Diesel and Electric modes of navigation as easy as pressing a button.

Shore Power Sailing Mode

At the dock, the boat is plugged into the 230 V (120 V) AC shore power supply. The battery pack is under charge and the inverter provides AC power to run home appliances like the fridge, TVs, etc.

dock-mode

Diesel Drive Charging Mode

In this mode, the diesel engine propels the boat and drives the generator, which recharges the battery pack in as little as two hours. This mode is used for recharging and when higher speeds are desired. Diesel mode is chosen with the simple flip of a selector switch on the dash.

diesel-mode

Anchor Charging Mode

At anchor charging mode – charging with solar panels: the solar roof array charges the batteries, which provides a 230 V AC power supply to the appliances via an inverter. If the level of battery charge drops below a set value, the diesel engine is switched on in order to drive the generator and charge the battery pack via generator(s). The propeller is disengaged (the gearbox is in neutral).

anchor-mode

Electric Drive Mode

In electric drive mode, the boat is powered by the electric motor/generator eM/G, to propel the boat by using electricity stored in the lithium battery pack. This mode is used to navigate in and out of a marina, anchorage, or no-wake zone with no noise or smoke, and, an insignificant wake. The electric mode also reduces diesel maintenance intervals because no hours are clocked on the engine. In Electric mode at 4-6 knots, a fully charged battery pack provides a range of up to 20 miles. The range can be increased to 40 nautical miles with an optional second lithium battery pack.

electric-mode

A weekend with a Greenline 39…

Greenline Yachts offer a unique set of benefits that no other boat on the market can offer today. You will never find yourself opening a warm bottle of wine or having to serve your friends cocktails without ice. Greenline Yachts offer 230V AC power onboard at all times even without being plugged in at the marina or running a generator. 230V AC is available as standard, even without the Hybrid-Drive option!

We calculated how much power we consume spending a typical summer day at anchor. The simple sheet below is applied to a Greenline 39 with standard battery pack as we wanted to make sure the level of comfort is at the highest possible level for you and your family while you spend time on the water without noise, vibrations or diesel exhaust.

About Greenline Hybrid Yachts

Design and engineering.

All Greenline models were designed by J&J Design Studio. This world’s leading production yacht design studio was founded in 1983 by brothers Jernej and Japec Jakopin and produced over 300 designs for 55 yards from 22 countries giving birth to over 60.000 production sail- and powerboats – winning close to 100 Boat of the Year, Design and Environmental awards.

Tooling And Prototyping

Greenline Yachts models are tooled using high-precision 5-axis milling machines and model-shop/tooling technicians with extensive knowhow and experience based on building the tooling for world’s most renowned yards. The very sophisticated tooling used is the base of a very efficient and streamlined production process – arguably one of the most advanced worldwide.

Infusion Technology

Greenline Yachts have adopted the vacuum infusion technology since it’s inception. Compared to traditional hand lay-up there are several benefits such as optimal amount of resin used in the process resulting in optimal weight and stiffness, higher quality of materials used (osmosis proof vinyl ester resin) as well as being environmentally friendlier.

Handcrafted Finish

Tradition and experience means a great deal in boat building. A boat (sailing or power) will always be, at least at decisive stages, a hand made product therefore craftmanship is of great importance. Greenline Yachts are built by one of the most skilled and experienced craftsmen based on centuries of local boatbuilding tradition and over half a century of composite boatbuilding experience.

Extreme Comfort

Maintaining the comfort and convenience both on deck as well as down below at the highest level across the whole Greenline Yachts range is of the most importance to us. The excellence in styling attracts even the most demanding and experienced boaters.

Brightness and panoramic view

Greenline models across the range share some common principles. One of them is natural light and a 360° panoramic view in the salon making living onboard pleasant and comfortable for the whole family.

All the comforts of home

On a Greenline, you will have constant 230 or 120 V AC power onboard to power your home appliances at all times. It is truly home away from home with a normal-size fridge, freezer, microwave, TV, air conditioning and normal sockets for charging your devices are all at your convenience, even when you are not hooked up on shore power at your dock.

All in one level

We pride ourselves in having one of the most comfortable and safe range of boats available on the market.

The Greenline concept puts comfort and convenience at the top of our priority list making it easy to move around as there is not a single step to overcome from the bathing platform to the helmsman’s position. Even the Greenline 48 Fly and our flagship Oceanclass 65 only have two steps from the platform to the cockpit level. This is truly unique on a high-volume yacht and ensures a very low center of gravity, which means stability.

Maximum Convenience

The Hybrid hull has evolved from the Greenline signature hull design called Superdisplacement which incorporates some of the properties of a modern sailing boat hull that moves through the water with the least amount of drag and exceeds the theoretical speed of the hull that is defined by the length of the waterline.

Hybrid hull is a natural evolution of the Superdisplacement as it enables cruising at higher speeds while still maintaining optimal consumption and stability at lower cruising speeds. The Hybrid hull allows for smooth and stable cruising at 10, 12, 16, 20, 25 and even 30 knots. This way the owner can choose from the range of engines offered – the power of the engines defines the cruising speed without having to compromise the safety, stability or consumption levels of your Greenline.

The fuel consumption per nautical mile is much lower than that of a comparable displacement hull and as little as one quarter of a semi-displacement, twin engine planing boat.

This revolutionary hull efficiently covers the speed range from zero to over double displacement speed – up to 18 knots in case of a 10 meter waterline and up to 25 knots in case of a 12 meter waterline.

With twin stabilisers on the Greenline 33 and 40, it has unmatched anti-roll and tracking stability. It offers a comfortable and safe ride in all weather conditions, faced by a head-on, side or following sea.
