The top sailing yachts at the Monaco Yacht Show 2023

From the latest launches to the finest yachts currently for sale, we take a look at the top supersized sailing yachts that will be making an appearance at the 2023 edition of the Monaco Yacht Show later this month.

White Island

Length: 39m Builder: Aegean Yacht

White Island is one of the latest custom creations from Turkish shipyard Aegean Yacht . Her neoclassic design is a modern take on a traditional gulet with two masts, a raised deckhouse and a long bowsprit. A 261GT interior sleeps 10 guests.

Length: 35m Builder: Nautor Swan

The suitably named Fancy is the first in a new line of Swan Maxis. The new Swan 108 plugs the gap between the Swan 98 and the Swan 120 flagship with modified exterior styling by Micheletti + Partners and naval architecture by German Frers . One of the more noticeable evolutions is the yacht's dual-acting transom door, which sees the stern open along with part of the aft deck to create a generous waterfront beach club, offering nearly double the space than on previous Maxis. A second unit is already underway at the Finnish shipyard.

Length : 29.7m Builder : YYachts

The new flagship of YYachts , Bella , will make her first appearance at the Monaco Yacht Show this year following delivery in November 2022. She is the first unit in the shipyard's Y9 series designed by Bill Tripp and eclipses its former flagship, Prevail , by 2.3 metres. Built entirely in carbon fibre, she is a performance cruiser and has been carefully designed to sail with as little as two crew, with the mainsheet centred on the bimini top keeping the social cockpit clear of sheets.

Length : 53m Builder : Alloy Yachts

Drumbeat was built for an experienced yachtsman and delivered in 2000 as the second in the Salperton dynasty. Not only was she the biggest boat ever built by shipyard Alloy Yachts , but she was the largest yacht to be built in New Zealand. Designed by Ed Dubois, she is fitted with a carbon ketch Panamax rig that flies 2,400 square metres of sail downwind. Drumbeat has had the same owner since 2007 but is now offered for sale.

Drumbeat is listed for sale with Atalante asking €22,000,000.

State of Grace

Length: 39.4m Builder: Perini Navi

State of Grace was launched in 2013 as one of Perini Navi ’s 40m Fast Cruising series, a collaboration between Perini Navi and Ron Holland . She was built with an aluminium hull and her sailing credentials include a 51.8-metre Southern Spars mast, captive reel winches, and a 17-tonne swing keel that reduces her draught from 9.1 to 3.5 metres. Inside, she has a split-level saloon, sleeps nine, and is offered for sale following a comprehensive refit and 10-year class survey.

State of Grace is asking €11,750,000 with Cecil Wright & Partners .

Length : 43.3m Builder : Baltic Yachts

The brief for Canova was for the ultimate cruiser with a design that prioritised comfort, enabled short-handed sailing, and offered plenty of shade in the cockpit. Twin helm stations are positioned close to the bulwarks for forward visibility; the mainsheet track is set out of harm’s way on the coachroof, well-distanced from guests and crew; and a self-tacking jib is sheeted forward of the mast to avoid flailing sheets sweeping the side decks. What's more, she has a hybrid engine and DSS foil which makes her uber-efficient. The Baltic Yachts and Farr Yacht Design collaboration won Sailing Yacht of the Year at the World Superyacht Awards .

Sunreef 80 Eco

Length : 23.9m Builder : Sunreef Yachts

Sunreef’s 80 Eco model combines catamaran comfort with an impressive list of green tech – including solar panels on every surface. The "eco" version of Sunreef's bestselling catamaran can run for days, weeks or even months without burning a drop of fossil fuel – enough to cross an ocean – thanks to a powerful 200-square-metre, fully battened main and a 155-square-metre jib, variable pitch propellers that generate energy under sail, and up to 160 square metres of solar panels.

Focus on the Sailing Yacht Area of the 2022 Monaco Yacht Show

The Monaco Yacht Show announces the fleet of large sailing yachts on display this September. Attendees to the show will discover multi-awarded sailing yachts, classic schooners or sloops, and high-performance and modern-designed sailing vessels.

Amongst the 10 units on exhibit at the Sailing Yacht Area , 4 new launches will be showcased in Monaco: ClubSwan 80 (27.7m) and Swan 98 (31.05m) by the Finnish builder Nautor’s Swan, Sorvind (34.59m) by Southern Wind shipyard; the eco-friendly sailing catamaran Sunreef 80 Eco (24m) by Sunreef that will join the fleet.

For 2022, the Sailing Yacht Area is relocated to the inside area of Quai l’Hirondelle at Port Hercule.

On stands, visitors will also meet up with a selection of builders, designers, or equipment manufacturers specialising in sailing yachts.

About the Monaco Yacht Show

The Monaco Yacht Show (MYS) is an annual international show dedicated to the world of superyachts. Inaugurated in 1991, the show is held over four days in late September in the Port Hercule of Monaco. The MYS is divided into two main exhibition areas: afloat and on the quayside. Afloat, +100 superyachts and +50 luxury tenders are displayed by the most renowned builders and brokers in the market.

The Monaco Yacht Show is world-renowned for the exceptional quality of its superyachts and their impressive length: among the +100 units on display, +40 new models are unveiled as world premieres each year. The fleet has an average length of 50m and mega yachts exceeding 100m.

Alexandra Hernández is Riela Yachts’ Yacht Manager. As part of this, Alexandra is the initial point of contact for our vessels; working closely with our other specialists to provide support and service coordination. Alexandra supervises crew management and plays a heavy involvement in the development and maintenance of our award-winning electronic Safety Management System (eSMS).

Born and raised in Colombia, Alexandra completed her degree as a Lawyer, and she is on track to receive her diploma in Superyacht Management.

Alexandra’s legal background and experience within the Marine & Aviation industries cover a wide range of roles, helping to gain invaluable knowledge, develop communication skills and actively cultivate solid industry relationships to deliver the highest of standards in every project.

JAY HOUGHTON

Riela group finance director.

Jay Houghton is the Riela Group Finance Director. Jay is responsible for overseeing the Financial Strategy of the Group alongside the financial reporting and control structure of the Group and its companies.

As a qualified accountant with over 30-years in the financial and service industries, Jay has built a wealth of experience in business analysis, investment appraisal, financial control and reporting.

Cameron findlay

Safety & compliance officer.

Cameron “Fin” Findlay became a part of the Riela Yachts team in late 2021, initially joining as a Trainee Yacht Safety & Compliance Assistant. Fin’s commitment and dedication have enabled him to understand the intricacies of the industry from the ground up, leading him to being promoted to Yacht Safety & Compliance Officer in 2023. Fin is now a qualified Company Security Officer (CSO), actively contributing to the implementation of Riela’s Safety Management System across our fleet, working closely alongside Clive Harrison and George Self.

Christian crompton

Product and development lead.

Christian Crompton is the Riela Yachts’ Product and Development Lead responsible for translating the requirements and operations of the Safety and Compliance team and implementing this into the forefront of the electronic Safety Management System (eSMS).

Since graduating with a first-class honours degree in Computer and Information Security in 2018, Christian has worked on designing and developing superyacht solutions using Laserfiche in the Maritime Software Industry.

With Christian’s security background and software experience streamlining business processes, Christian applies his knowledge into the Riela Yachts strategy and innovates new systems for both Riela and their clients.

Tony Partridge

Product and development specialist.

Tony Partridge is a Product and Development specialist at Riela Yachts where he will be working closely alongside Mark Bridson and Christian Crompton. Tony’s main focus is building an innovative client focused dashboard, whilst providing a new outlook and perspective to our current processes, policies and procedures.

Before joining Riela, Tony started his own web development business where he built applications and websites for a large group of different sectors, growing a strong and long-lasting clientele base. With over 10 years of experience, Tony brings a depth of knowledge and expertise to the Riela Yachts team which will be used to help progress the company’s development through the innovation and development of Riela Yachts solutions.

Robert Tobin

Riela group managing director.

Rob Tobin is the Managing Director of the Riela Group of Companies and is responsible for overseeing our business operations, our people and driving excellence in all we do.

Robert brings over 25 years of successful leadership and entrepreneurial experience across a range of industries including Family Office, corporate services, construction engineering, Superyachts, cyber security and information technology development to our Group, and to our customers.

In the past 15 years Rob has gained a prominent reputation within the Superyacht industry for his passion, integrity, innovation and achievements to date.

Clive Harrison

Operations director.

Clive Harrison is a Director at Riela Yachts and leads the Operations Team.

After a 22 year service as a Deck Officer in the UK Royal Navy, Clive moved ashore and is enjoying a second career, spanning over a decade,  in the yachting industry and relishing the challenges that this brings.

Clive brings a wealth of expertise and experience to our Company and has earned a reputation for providing a professional and pragmatic approach to the delivery of our services.

George Self

Safety & compliance manager.

George Self is a Safety & Compliance Manager and responsible for the implementation and development of operational compliance for yachts at the company.

Accruing a 10-year service of sea time, beginning as a deckhand before respectfully concluding her career as a Chief Officer, George now contributes a wealth of first-hand practice and insight into the support she now provides to yachts daily. George also brings shore side experience from her time working at a number of established Ship Management firms on the Isle of Man.

Ken Hickling

Ken Hickling is a company Director at Riela Yachts (UK) Ltd.

Ken has spent over 30 years working in the Yachting industry at Boatyards and materials manufacturers, and more recently as a Specialist Business Advisor. During this time Ken has served as International Superyacht Society (ISS) President and is currently on the Superyacht UK Executive Committee. He also works as a project leader on the ISO work group focused on Superyacht Quality.

The experience that he brings to The Riela Group in optimising our internal business processes helps to ensure that the quality of service we provide to our clients is at the highest level.

Louise Gimson

Louise Gimson is a Director, Senior Administrator and in-house HR Manager and is responsible for the day to day running of the company and client accounts at the Riela Yachts.

With an extensive background in finance, Louise brings almost twenty years’ experience in accounts within the ship management industry to Riela Yachts, where she is dedicated to implementing dynamic solutions to benefit clients.

Louise has diversified her responsibilities by taking on data handling duties within the company and in 2016 began assisting the Operations Team with internal compliance procedures.

Matthew has significant experience within the maritime industry having previously worked across various sectors including insurance, security, satellite communications and managed IT. Matthew’s most recent experience encompasses almost 5 years spent with the leading satellite communications and managed IT provider in the maritime industry, focusing on their superyacht clientele.

Mark Bridson

Product & development specialist.

Mark Bridson is a Product and Development specialist and responsible for the integration of Laserfiche within the company and the developing of an electronic Safety Management System.

Marks career started in the Royal Air Force as a data analyst maintaining Aircraft engineering records and the provision of Aircraft statistics.

Returning to the Island Mark spent the next 25 years working in IT for an aircraft design company. In this role he provided Computer Aided Design and document management support for offices within the UK and Europe.

Moving from the Aircraft industry to Maritime, Mark has spent two years with a Yachting software solutions company using Laserfiche to design purchase ordering systems for Superyachts.

Crew Officer

Tina Dahn is a Crew Officer and responsible for the administration of yacht crew contracts, monthly payroll and crew certification at Riela Yachts.

After a 12 year service in the Royal Navy undertaking various administration and PA roles, Tina began working for the NHS in 2001 and was responsible for duties including managing payroll, recruitment and HR administration.

Tina returned to the Isle of Man to undertake the role of Crewing Officer in the superyacht industry in 2011, where she oversaw a portfolio of clients whom she provided crew employment, administration and payroll services.

In fact, thanks to the naval architecture by Van Oossanen, this all-aluminium 45-metre yacht is designed for transoceanic cruises, capable of exceptional sailing capabilities, speed and incredible range.

The exterior design is a collaborative effort between the renowned OMEGA team and the visionary owner, while the interior design was brought to life by the owner and Martin Hanff.

Milele catches the eye with her clear and clean lines, which translate into a sturdy and imposing exterior profile. The owner has been intricately involved in refining the exterior design, adding innovative details that truly contribute to customize this yacht.

Below the waterline, MILELE incorporates Van Oossanen’s patented Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) in conjunction with the Hull Vane . This underwater spoiler, positioned beneath the stern, effectively reduces fuel consumption and ship motions by an impressive average of 20 to 25%. The result is an enhanced onboard experience, characterized by improved comfort and stability.

Coupled with the advanced hull features, MILELE’s two 2580 kW MTUs (type 12V 4000 M93L) diesel engines, along with two electric booster engines, propel the yacht to remarkable speeds. Reaching an impressive top speed of 25.5 knots, MILELE outpaces most superyachts of her size. Even at a steady cruising speed of 12 knots, she boasts transatlantic capabilities with a range of 3800 nautical miles.

Monaco Yacht Show 2023: an edition with full sails towards blue economy.

It is definitely an unmissable event for world yachting a few steps from the most inconceivable places in the Principality of Monaco. The Monaco Yacht Show - MYS , at its 32th edition , developed a world-wide attention for its entire duration, from the 27th until the 30th September 2023 . A winning outcome for the organisers who are fully committed to reach carbon neutrality within the Monaco's gradual decarbonisation strategy. Reducing of half of greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 while cutting CO2 by 60% by 2025 , encouraging energy efficiency through investments and processes are some of the ambitious targets to be achieve in a short time. The event management is already operating on various fronts to 'hit the edge', notably eco-mobility, sustainable waste management, carbon assessment and best environmentally friendly practices to better respond to direct and indirect impacts.

At the opening conference on the 27th September 2023, the participants highlighted the renewed combination between yachting & luxury and corporate responsibility, increasingly an integral part of the supply chain DNA. Various speakers, Gaëlle Tallarida (Monaco Yacht Show), Derek Munro (Divergent Yachting), Robert Van Tol (Water Revolution Foundation), and Massimo Perotti (Sanlorenzo), offered multidimensional perspective on the main themes.

The Managing Director of the Monaco Yacht Show focused the attention on the Sustainability Hub, a specific session devoted to innovation and visionary projects encouraging practical solutions. « It is not just a showcase, it is a call to action », she pointed out by adding « This hub embodies the Monaco Yacht Show's dedication to sustainability ». Debating, exchanging ideas, networking is more and more essential to doing business and the Monaco Yacht Show is being supporting a new approach of economy related to the yachting industry made of companies seriously engaged in the cause with tangible action plans and third-party certifications. .

Robert Van Tol , Executive Director at the Water Revolution Foundation , believes that the yachting ecologic transition is strongly improving through a "taking action" phase, a further step than the awareness. Technology is definitely helping the green shift. Fuel cell and methanol technologies, in particular, are playing a promising role o grant a total energy package on board the vessel. Moreover, refitting systems are allowing existing fleets to improve their carbon footprint keeping high performances.

The 2023 Monaco Yacht Show proved to live up to expectations providing evidence of ensuring logistics in the space of the famous Port Hercules, one of the most glamorous natural yachting port of the Riviera, not originally suitable for hosting such an important trade fair. A winning outcome resulting from a great skilled teamwork of about fifty people operated by HYPSOS. Moreover, the most operational management is ecology-oriented following up the signing of the Monaco's Mission for Energy Transition Pact . As for mobility, polluting vehicles are banned from all the exhibition area, counting on a free-of-charge electric shuttle. The 3R Cycle is granted by recycling materials (e.g.: reused exhibition carpets), reusable water bottles and communication tools for dissemination are distributed. Energy from renewable sources is provided to 'fuel' the show. Last but not least, various information panels ara constantly informing visitors to promote good practices in respect of common spaces and the environment.

To reinforce its environmentally friendly commitment, the event management has been contributing for several years to the nature cause. In the 2023 edition, the Monaco Yacht Show and the Informa Group (owner) donated a cheque of € 52,000 to the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. Furthermore, it acted in favour of the ice core heritage preservation within the Ice Memory programme by Grenoble Alpes University Foundation, grounded on climate mitigation through an in depth data collection from a set of glaciers worldwide.

Looking forward the next-year edition of the Monaco Yacht Show , the yachting industry is particularly active in providing eco-friendly solutions that do not undermine the standards of comfort and performance, requested by customers interested in super yachts. In the heart of the French Mediterranean coast, the Monaco Yacht Show 2023 took center stage from September 27 to 30. This four-day event is a beacon of opulence, where the world’s most esteemed players in the international luxury yachting sector congregate to witness a mesmerizing display of the largest and most expensive superyachts in the world.

Now in its 32nd edition, the Monaco Yacht Show continues to draw prospective buyers, designers, builders, suppliers, brokers, and superyacht enthusiasts from across the globe, solidifying its status as the pinnacle of the industry.

Magnificent Display

One of the show’s star attractions this year was the new 50-meter superyacht, Grey, crafted by the renowned Tankoa Yachts. Grey, along with a fleet of 50-meter-plus superyachts, anchored in the bay, making this Monaco Yacht Show a playground for the biggest players in the yachting world.

Johan Pizzardini, head of communications and media for the Monaco Yacht Show, highlighted the significance of this year’s event, stating, “We have 45 yachts that will make their world debut here – new deliveries… Half of the fleet is less than two years old. It’s the peak of the higher segment of the super yachting industry. Something that all of the industry has been waiting for.”

A Shift in Yacht Design

This year’s lineup showcased the evolution of superyacht design, influenced by a younger generation of owners with a fresh perspective. One of the notable vessels, the world’s largest sailing catamaran, the Art Explorer, is designed as a floating museum with a capacity for up to 2,000 visitors per day.

According to Pizzardini, this shift in design represents a change in the mindset of superyacht owners, saying, “Yachting is shifting thanks to the involvement of those new clients that are entering with a new mindset. It’s younger—it’s not the old money generations.”

Sustainability Takes the Stage

The Monaco Yacht Show’s Sustainability Hub returned for its second year, highlighting sustainable solutions and eco-friendly projects. This year, sustainability was a central theme, with many conferences focusing on the issue. Pizzardini noted, “Solutions are more viable and tangible, and the mindset has changed. So it turned from an optional development into the essential component of the building of a yacht today.”

Feadship’s Vision for the Future

Feadship unveiled Project Dunes, a 273-foot-long concept designed to move toward Net-Zero superyachts. This innovative concept combines energy-saving features with efficient technology and a focus on sustainability.

For aesthetic inspiration, the design team drew from undulating sand dunes, creating adaptable, multi-purpose spaces with endless views and a mix of open-plan and intimate areas. The design also prioritizes shaded walk-around decks, providing protection from the elements.

The use of asymmetrical superstructures, circular staircases, and full-height glass windows adds to the uniqueness of this design. Additionally, energy-saving features like the Cool Core Concept and ABB Dynafin™ propulsion ensure reduced energy consumption.

The Future Beckons

As the Monaco Yacht Show 2023 concluded, it left the world wondering which pioneering owner would commit to bringing Project Dunes to life. The show’s platform continues to be a place where vision and innovation merge to create the next wave of superyacht excellence.

High-End Showcase

During the event, several renowned yacht builders and designers presented their latest creations. Mangusta unveiled the sumptuous Oceano 50 and Mangusta GranSport 33. Camper & Nicholsons showcased a fleet of five impeccable yachts, while Heesen Yachts presented the Van Tom, a 50-meter masterpiece conceived by Francesco Paszkowski and Margherita Casprini.

Benetti made a grand appearance with two world premieres: the Custom 65M M/Y TRIUMPH and the B.NOW 50M M/Y IRYNA, both epitomizing maritime luxury.

Sialia Yachts, a pioneer in sustainable electric yacht design, introduced the world to the Deep Silence, a Sialia 57, highlighting a future where luxury seamlessly blends with sustainability.

The Monaco Yacht Show offers a glimpse into a world where innovation and extravagance combine, setting the stage for the superyachts of tomorrow.

Walking in Wealthy Footsteps

The Monaco Yacht Show boasts exclusivity even in its boarding process, where guests, including royalty, must remove their shoes before boarding the vessels. The show’s accessibility is reserved for a select few, with one buyer for every 100 staff.

The show tour included a visit to the opulent Phoenix 2, designed for the “richest man in Poland,” the late Jan Kulczyk. This 295-foot vessel, on sale for $132 million, mirrors an art deco Manhattan penthouse, complete with lavish amenities and luxurious cabins.

As the Monaco Yacht Show demonstrates, the world of luxury yachts continues to redefine opulence, sustainability, and innovation, setting the course for the future of yachting.
