10 Top Cocktails To Enjoy On A Superyacht Charter

Although a popular and relatively simple cocktail to make, the best Mojito’s are made with the perfect balance of fresh, organic mint leaves, hand- squeezed lime juice, ice and of course some top-shelf rum. Try Bambu or LVMH’s 10 Cane to give it that special edge.

5 Tasty Cocktails to Drink on a Yacht – The Best Recipes!

yachting mojito cocktail

What cocktails to drink on a yacht depends mostly on what the passengers like to drink, and who doesn’t like a boat drink? A boat drink is a cocktail with a lot of alcohol commonly served in a tropical setting. Boat drinks are so popular that Jimmy Buffet penned a song, “Boat Drinks” in honour of these island favourites. Below are a few drink recipes that deserve their own songs.

Table of Contents

Bahama Mama

This classic island drink is a favourite among tourists on any island, but don’t let that keep you away! This drink is designed to drink while sitting in the sun and relaxing

Ingredients

1/2 ounce light rum 1/2-ounce dark rum 1/2 ounce 151 rum 1/2-ounce coconut rum 1-ounce pineapple juice 1/2-ounce orange juice Dash grenadine Crushed ice

This is the perfect drink for anyone who loves tangy, fruit drinks with a kick. This multi-fruit daiquiri combines the best flavours for a fantastic drink and it’s a great way to use up fresh fruit.

1 cup fresh peaches (peeled and sliced) 1 cup fresh strawberries 1 cup fresh mango (cut into cubes) 1 cup seeded watermelon 6 ounces frozen lemonade concentrate (thawed) 6 ounces light rum 2 tablespoons powdered sugar 2 cups ice cubes

In a blender, add all of the fruit, lemonade, rum, and powdered sugar. Blend until the mixture is smooth. Begin gradually adding the ice, a few cubes at a time, allowing the blender time to fully incorporate the ice into the drink before adding more. Repeat this process until the ice is gone or the drink has reached the desired consistency. Pour into chilled glasses and serve.

Mai Tais pack a greater punch than other island drinks made with fruit. This is the perfect boat drink for socialising and experimenting with the recipe. It’s difficult to mess this one up, so subtract and add ingredients according to your whims.

1/2 ounce Amaretto 1 ounce light rum 1/2-ounce dark rum 1-ounce pineapple juice 1 ounce sweet and sour mix 1/2 ounce Triple Sec Crushed ice

Mix all of the ingredients except ice together until thoroughly combined. Pour over the ice and serve.

The Mojito is perhaps the grandfather of island drinks for good reason. Nothing can beat a classic Mojito on a breezy summer night, but the Mojito is nothing if not versatile. Try this watermelon version for a twist on an old favourite!

1 1/2 cups fresh, seedless watermelon (cubed) 5 mint leaves 1/2-ounce lime juice 1/2-ounce simple syrup 2 ounces light rum Club soda Crushed ice

Muddle the watermelon cubes and mint leaves until the watermelon is crushed. Add to a shaker with the lime juice and simple syrup. Shake to combine. Add the rum and some ice and shake again. Strain the drink into a glass filled with crushed ice and add a little club soda to finish it off.

Pina Colada

The Pina Colada is another traditional boat drink that has withstood the test of time. There are many variations on the Pina Colada, but below is the classic recipe that can liven up any party.

6 ounces dark rum 8 ounces cream of coconut 8 ounces pineapple juice Ice

Combine all of the ingredients except ice in a blender. After the liquids are combined, fill the blender to the top with ice and blend until the mixture is a grainy texture. Serve in a chilled glass.

A holiday in paradise deserves a good drink to accompany it. Whip up a batch of boat drinks, sit back, relax, and enjoy your time in the sun, as you taste a bit of the island in your glass!

I like this website and I love the combination of cocktails and yachts. I like yachts and I like cocktails but I don’t like rum. I love Irish whiskey but it never occurs to me to make cocktails with whiskey. Do you have any ideas for whiskey coctails? I was recently in Venice, Italy and we found a cocktail bar that offered about 50 different types of mojitos … delicious!

I am glad you like my website. There are a lot of whiskey cocktail recipes to be founded on the internet. I am sure it won’t be a problem to find a great one :).

If you find a good recipe, I’ll be more than happy if you share it with us!

Thank you for the comment and wish you a wonderful day!

Thanks for advising on some great drinks to share when on a yacht/ship cruise! I also like that you have videos for each to show clearly how to make them (I always like to see how the drinks are made so this is helpful)…

Hmmmmmmm some other cocktails I like to offer my guests…..The main ones that I get asked about seem to be the PinaColada, Sex on the Beach, Mojito, and anything with Bailey’s…

Thanks for “stirring up” my mind hehe, always good when that happens!! Cheers!!

You are very welcome, and thank you for the comment.

Ah. A collection of classics if I’ve ever seen one. I haven’t spent much time on a yacht, but I’ve been to beach resorts and enjoyed these beverages.

These days, though, I have to order them ‘virgin’ style. They are just about as good that way, so nothing lost.

Beach is also a wonderful place to enjoy a refreshing cocktail:)

Thank you for your comment and wish you an awesome day!

Hi Daniella

Great website – lovely theme and amazing colours and user interface. Very easy to navigate with information laid out beautifully (especially the destinations!).

A nice introduction to sailing for many who have always wondered about it but never experienced it. The page on cocktails is very enticing!

Best wishes,

Thank you , I am glad you enjoyed navigate in my website .

Have an awesome day!

Checking out your 5 island drinks, makes me want to go back down south again for another vacation. I have had 4 of the drinks you have mentioned quite often. The fifth drink choice Mojito I have never had with watermelon juice. I have always liked the mixed drinks over beer and wine, and there is nothing better than having a drink on a boat on a nice summers day. Some day I will have to try a catamaran vacation down south and have some of my favorite drinks.

The Mojito is a very tasty cocktail, and you should try it definitively on a Cat! Catamarans are so stable that you won’t spill a drop of your cocktail 🙂

Thank you for the comment and have a wonderful day

Hi, you’ve got really nice website and a great article with delicious recipes.. I like that you used a video for each recipe. It’s always better if you can watch how to prepare it.

I don’t drink alcohol anymore but when I used to drink it my favourite was pina colada. I even have a bartending course which I passed at high school 😀

Thanks for sharing:) Iveta

Thank you for the compliment, I am glad you like my website.

Hope to see you soon again:)

Have a great day!

Hi Daniella,

Thanks for the fantastic article again – I want to try them all! I’ve tried Mojito myself, and I know all other’s by name but have never actually tried, especially Daiquiri seems tricky as you need a lot of different fruits if you want to make it on your own. But the videos certainly help, and by watching them, I forget this cold weather here in the UK, I’d love to go somewhere warm and drink these while sailing on a yacht!

Yes, I agree, you will certainly appreciate the cocktail under the sun while relaxing on a beach or on a yacht:)

Thank you for the comment

Awesome post Daniella!

This is an awesome list of drinks! I work at a Martini Bar and most of these drinks are on our most popular drink menu.

My favorite is the Bahama Mama and the Pina Colada, what is your favorite drink from this list?

Once again, great stuff, keep ’em coming!

My favorite drink is definitely the Mojito:)

No matter where I am, this is what I drink!

Thank you for passing by and for the comment.

Wish you a great day!

I loved all the different recipe you have on your website. I have been in the restaurant business for over 10 years as a chef. My friend was a bartender and her Mai Tai ingredients were pretty similar to the one you have on your website. Great videos as well!

I saw an error in your about me box, you might want to delete the a before passionate. Hope you don’t mind. I know that looks more like a typo. Besides that Nice job!

That’s great because I have many friends that are in the restaurant business as well:)

Thank you for the tip and for the comment, I really appreciate!

Have a wonderful day!

Mojito Cocktail

yachting mojito cocktail

The mojito is one of the world's most popular cocktails . It's a simple mixed drink of rum, mint, lime, sugar, and club soda, and a muddler and stirring spoon are the only tools required. While some bartenders dislike making mojitos because they require a bit more work than other cocktails, it's easy to make from scratch and comes together in just a few minutes.

A classic cocktail that originated in Cuba, the mojito is a favorite summertime beverage worldwide. The mint and lime give it a cool, refreshing flavor, and the soda lightens it up with a fizzy crispness. There are many ways that you can switch up the flavor of the basic recipe, which makes it a fun cocktail to share with friends.

The Spruce Eats / Margot Cavin

"The mojito has many variations, and this is a good recipe to begin with and adjust to your taste. With all cocktails using fresh ingredients, the better your ingredients, the better the cocktail. Applying this recipe with fresh lime, fragrant mint, and a solid rum makes an excellent mojito." — Sean Johnson

Ingredients

2 teaspoons superfine sugar

6 to 8 fresh mint leaves

2 to 3 ounces   club soda , divided, to taste

2 ounces light rum

Mint sprig , for garnish

Steps to Make It

Gather the ingredients.

The Spruce Eats / Mateja Kobescak

In a highball glass, add the sugar, mint leaves, and a splash of the club soda.

Muddle just enough to dissolve the sugar and release the flavor of the mint.

Squeeze the juice from the 2 halves of lime into the glass. Drop 1 squeezed half into the glass if you like.

Add the rum and stir well.

Fill the glass with ice cubes and top with club soda.

Garnish with a mint sprig. Serve and enjoy.

  • Spearmint is a favorite mint variety for mojitos and the type you'll likely get from generically labeled "mint" at produce markets. Yerba buena is considered the mint of choice for an authentic Cuban mojito.
  • Superfine sugar is recommended because the finer crystals dissolve better in cold cocktails. With the help of your food processor or blender, it's easy to make superfine sugar from standard sugar .
  • If you don't have a muddler, use the back of a wooden spoon to mash the ingredients.
  • Although any club soda will suffice, try a boutique soda instead. There are many great options available today, and some brands formulate sodas specifically for cocktails.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Use a different sweetener, such as raw sugar or palm (coconut) sugar; for best results, process them into finer grains. A splash of simple syrup , honey syrup, or agave nectar works well, too.
  • Add a soft layer of flavor with lightly sweetened or flavored sodas. Many hard seltzers are good alternatives to club soda, and tonic water gives it a drier profile.
  • For a fruity twist, muddle in extra fruits. Pineapple , watermelon , and raspberry mojitos are favorites. Use a combination of pomegranate seeds and juice for a delicious pomegranate mojito .
  • Try a mojito sangria, a simple pitcher drink with white wine.
  • Make a virgin mojito by skipping the rum and filling the glass with soda.

How Strong Is the Mojito?

The mojito is not a terribly strong cocktail. When made with 80-proof rum, the alcohol content falls in the 13 percent ABV (26 proof) range. That makes it equivalent to a glass of wine, only far more refreshing.

Where Was the Mojito Invented?

The mojito originated in Cuba, possibly derived from a 16th-century medicinal tonic known as El Draque (named after Sir Francis Drake). It's said that in the 1800s, Africans who had been enslaved and working in Cuba's sugarcane fields commonly took a similar elixir. As it advanced from tonic to beverage, the mint, lime, and sugar masked the taste of cheap rum. Havana lays claim to inventing the cocktail as it's known today with the introduction of ice and soda. The mojito grabbed international attention when Americans flocked to Cuba during Prohibition . It was supposedly second to the daiquiri on Ernest Hemmingway's list of favorite cocktails. Over the years, the rum improved, and the mojito's fame spread immensely.

What Is the Best Rum for a Mojito?

White rums are typically preferred for a mojito; it's good to choose a mid-range brand. Alternatively, add extra depth to the drink's flavor with a high-end aged rum. Avoid spiced rums because the spices detract from the freshness of the mint and lime.

Top Signature Drinks to Make on Your Yacht

top signature drinks

While pirates tend to drink rum straight, there are far and away better-tasting options for your upcoming Miami yacht charter. In fact, these tropical mixtures go hand in hand with a day spent on the water . Regardless of if you are a tequila fan or a rum fan, there is something for everyone on this list. Therefore, get in the mood for the sun and sea with these top signature drinks to make on a yacht.

Nothing says, “I’m here to relax and not check my phone” quite like a margarita does. After all, it is one of the most popular boating drinks in the US for a reason. To make a delicious margarita, mix tequila, triple sec, and fresh lime juice. For extra flavor, add a salt or sugar lining on the rim of the glass.

Piña Colada

Another classic boat drink, you can’t go wrong with a piña colada. This blended drink is mixed with light rum, pineapple juice, and cream of coconut. Furthermore, garnish it with a pineapple wedge and a tiny umbrella, find a raft to lay out on, and you are good to go!

This sweet and tropical rum drink is bound to take your party on a yacht to the next level. The best part? There are two versions of this delicious cocktail: the original is a mix of rum, orange curaçao, lime juice, and orgeat syrup, while the pineapple version is a mix of light rum, triple sec, orange juice, pineapple juice, lime juice, and grenadine. For both versions, simply shake and top it off with dark rum.

Mojitos are light and refreshing, making it easy to see why they are a boating day favorite. Depending on what your taste preference is, there are many ways to customize this drink. For those who want to stick with the classic mojito, add light rum, club soda, sugar, mint leaves, and then top it off with a lime.

You can thank the British soldiers for first bringing over the rum punch from India. Coming in many different forms, the most popular version is the Planter’s Punch. In fact, with just four ingredients, this drink is perfect to make out on the open water; just add Jamaican rum, pineapple juice, orange juice, and grenadine.

Goombay Smash

Named the national drink of the Bahamas, how could the Goombay Smash not make it to the list of best boating day drinks? To make this drink, mix dark rum, apricot brandy, coconut rum, and orange juice.

Created in the British Virgin Islands, the Painkiller continues to be one of the top choices for yachters in the Caribbean. To make it, mix Pusser’s navy rum, orange juice, pineapple juice, and sweet coconut cream. Serve over shaved ice and sprinkle a little bit of nutmeg on top.

Ready to get out on the water yet? We thought so. Book a yacht charter in Miami with us, and we’ll start getting the top signature drinks ready. Cheers!

The Advantaged

The Best Mojito Cocktail Recipe

A summertime staple, the mojito can be found anywhere with good times and warm weather. Preparation methods may vary from bar to bar, but should always result in a sweet, refreshing tropical cocktail.

A summertime staple, the mojito can be found anywhere with good times and warm weather. Preparation methods may vary from bar to bar, but should always result in a sweet, refreshing tropical cocktail.

Mojito Cocktail

History of the Mojito

Like its cousin the lime daiquiri, there’s no doubt the mojito comes from Cuba, though the exact origins remain unclear. Some theories attribute the cocktail’s beginnings to a medicinal remedy against scurvy. Others believe the drink was created by sugar cane field workers.

One popular—and hotly debated—account claims the mojito was the favorite cocktail of renowned author (and perennial drunk) Ernest Hemingway, which helped launch the drink into mainstream popularity.

Mojito Tasting Notes

The mojito is fresh, aromatically cool and herbaceous, with a citrusy tartness counterbalancing clean tropical sweetness.

Making a good mojito requires time, so expect a bit of a wait when ordering at a bar.

yachting mojito cocktail

Ingredients

  • 5 – 10 Mint Leaves: They should be fresh and springy. Avoid using limp or wilted mint. Reserve a sprig of mint for garnish.
  • 2 oz Rum: Light rum is standard. Bacardi is our brand of choice.
  • ¾ oz Lime juice: Make sure to use fresh-squeezed juice. Before you ask, Rose’s Lime Juice is not an acceptable substitute.
  • 1 oz Simple syrup: This is simply equal parts sugar and water mixed until forming a sweet syrup. Get it? Simple syrup?
  • Lime wheel : As garnish
  • Put 5 – 10 mint leaves into a mixing glass
  • Gently muddle the mint, bruising the leaves enough to release its flavors and aroma (if you end up with green paste you muddled too hard)
  • Fill the shaker or mixing glass with ice
  • Pour 2oz rum
  • Pour ¾ oz of lime juice, or squeeze directly into the glass, as shown in the video.
  • Pour 1 oz simple syrup
  • Shake for 10-15 seconds
  • Transfer the cocktail (ice and all) into a highball glass
  • Top with soda water
  • Garnish with a mint sprig and lime wheel.

Mojito Variations

The addition of different fruits and fruit nectars means the number of mojito variations is practically unlimited. Listed below are some popular fruit options.

  • Pineapple adds a sweet, tropical acidity. Use fresh if available, as canned tends to be a little syrupy.
  • Raspberries provide fresh and subtly floral sweetness with soft tartness against the mint.
  • Mangoes are fragrant and floral, making a nice compliment to the lime.
  • Strawberries and mint play very well together, making strawberry mojitos a very popular variation.

Mojito Substitutions

  • Use dark rum instead of light rum for a richer molasses flavor.
  • Mix in fresh basil with the mint to add a sweet, herbal, floral note. This is excellent with strawberry mojitos. You may even consider replacing the mint entirely.
  • Try using simple syrup infused with different ingredients , such as fruits, berries, or fresh herbs.
  • Substitute agave nectar for simple syrup. Consider reducing the amount used, as agave nectar is very sweet.

When to Serve a Mojito

Absolutely the drink for warm, sunny weather, there aren’t many outdoor activities the mojito can’t improve. Consider carefully before adding to the menu however, as these cocktails are pretty labor-intensive. If planning to serve mojitos at your next event, we recommend hiring/recruiting a dedicated bartender to make the cocktails for you.

  • Wedding receptions : Mojitos bring sunshine to any wedding reception.
  • Showers : Bright festive times call for fresh, celebratory drinks!
  • Anywhere near water : Beaches, swimming pools, lakes—you get the idea.

What to Serve with a Mojito

  • Seafood , especially ceviche
  • Caribbean food , like jerk chicken
  • Spicy foods in general , especially if lighter and fresher

Mojitos can improve many activities, but operating a vehicle is definitely not one of them. Always enjoy mojitos responsibly!

How to Make The Best Mojito

We absolutely love the simplicity of a classic mojito cocktail. Thanks to white rum, fresh mint, lime, and a little bit of sugar, mojitos taste fresh and light, making them perfect for warmer weather!

Mojitos are easy to make for one or for a crowd. For the best tasting cocktail, don’t skip the fresh mint and freshly squeezed lime, they’re essential on this one.

Mojitos with lime and mint

Making mojitos in three easy steps

  • Add fresh lime juice, sugar, and fresh mint leaves to a cocktail shaker.
  • Muddle mint into the lime juice and sugar, releasing flavorful oils from the mint.
  • Add rum, stir, and serve in a glass topped with a little club soda.

How to make mojitos for a crowd

To make mojitos in a pitcher, muddle mint into lime juice and sugar then stir in rum. If you plan on serving right away, add ice and top with club soda. If you are making the pitcher of mojitos in advance, wait to add the ice and club soda until you are ready to serve so it stays carbonated.

Which rum is best for Mojitos?

Traditionally, white rum is used to make mojitos. The rum you use doesn’t need to break the bank. A good quality, reasonably priced white rum will do the trick.

Mojito Variations

I love the classic mojito, but there are quite a few ways you can mix it up. Here are three of my favorites:

  • Make strawberry mojitos by muddling sliced strawberries with the mint and lime juice. Or use a different fruit, we use blueberries to make blueberry mojitos , but peaches, blackberries, and raspberries would also be amazing.
  • Make spicy mojitos by muddling slices of jalapeño or Serrano pepper with the mint and lime juice.
  • Make ultra refreshing mojitos with cucumber. Just muddle a few slices into the mint and lime.

Classic Fresh Rum Mojitos

  • TOTAL 5mins

Mojitos are very simple to make. For the best mojito cocktail, use fresh mint and freshly squeezed lime. For variations to the recipe including adding fruit and making it spicy, see the article above.

Watch Us Make the Recipe

You will need.

1 ounce (2 tablespoons) freshly squeezed lime juice

2 teaspoons sugar

8 fresh mint leaves, plus more for garnish

2 ounces (1/4 cup) white rum

1 ounce (2 tablespoons) club soda

Lime slice for garnish

1 Add lime juice, sugar and eight mint leaves to a cocktail shaker.

2 Use the end of a wooden spoon or cocktail muddler to bash (or muddle) the mint into the lime juice and sugar. This releases oils from the mint and helps the sugar dissolve into the lime juice.

3 Add rum, stir well, and then pour into a glass filled with ice, leaving about an inch of room. Top with club soda and serve with extra mint leaves and a lime slice.

Adam and Joanne's Tips

  • To make enough for four people follow these amounts: 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lime juice, 3 tablespoons sugar, 32 fresh mint leaves, 1 cup white rum, 4 cups ice, 1/2 cup club soda, and 4 lime slices for garnish.

Made this using plantation rum (dark), sweet blackberries and pomegranate, garnished with a candied orange slice. Random, but I just happened to have these particular additions lying around and wanted to use them up. So ridiculously easy, extremely flavorful. Will be keeping this one in my back pocket! Wish I could attach a photo!

Fantastic mojito recipe. I’m Cuban and I think you nailed it. A+++

So glad you loved it 🙂

Love checking out your recipes! Like reading a romantic novel?. I look forward to making a couple of them this weekend. Your directions and videos are simple and straightforward. Thank you! Pam

Great recipe, by using lime juice as opposed to muddling lime, mint & sugar you avoid the bitter oils in the lime skin. Best mojito I’ve made from this recipe.

Yay! Thank you so much for coming back to let us know you loved it 🙂

Delicious! But why do the drinks in the pictures look a different color? Dark rum instead of white? Brown sugar or syrup? Bitters? Something citrusy-yellow? The drink in the video looks as expected with these ingredients, as did ours. Just wondered if there is a secret ingredient, or maybe just the lighting.

Hi Patti, there is no secret ingredient. The drinks look different because the photo and the video were shoot at different times. Hope you enjoy the cocktail 🙂

nice drink, very refreshing

Love it can’t get enough of it, best drink since the Bushwhacker.I have two daughters that live in USVI so every trip I always bring home lots of Rum, I tried this with whipped and Key Lime Rum and it was so wonderful, I grow my own mint, so now I may have to plant a lot more as the rum n mint are going to disappear fast with this recipe. Five stars and thanks for sharing!

Is there a reason why you stir instead of shaking? Just curious…

Hi Beth, Not really, you could do either 🙂

I first enjoyed a refreshing Mojito while on holiday in Mexico and I’ve never looked back, although that may be due to the fact that from that point on I don’t remember a thing! Seriously though the Mojito is an absolute winner, especially when shared with someone special.

Mojito’s are also good with dark spiced rum

Yep! That would be awesome.

I wish my little dry town had a bar where I could get these! Yes, I know you can make them yourself, but I don’t go through rum that quick.

Sounds delicious!

Ooh, you guys, I love a good mojito…has to be my favorite drink!!

I feel like an alcoholic looking at mojito recipes this early in the day…

The Mojito is one of the most popular rum cocktails served today, with a recipe known around the world. The origins of this classic drink can be traced to Cuba and the 16th-century cocktail El Draque. Named for Sir Francis Drake, the English sea captain and explorer who visited Havana in 1586, El Draque was composed of aguardiente (a cane-spirit precursor to rum), lime, mint and sugar. It was supposedly consumed for medicinal purposes, but it’s easy to believe that drinkers enjoyed its flavor and effects.

Eventually, rum replaced aguardiente and the name was changed to the Mojito. It’s unclear exactly when this transpired, but the Mojito first appeared in cocktail literature in the 1932 edition of “ Sloppy Joe’s Bar Cocktail Manual , a book from the famed Havana institution.

Appropriately, almost all of the ingredients in the Mojito are indigenous to Cuba. Rum, lime, mint and sugar (the island nation grows sugar cane) are joined together and then lengthened with thirst-quenching club soda to create a delicious, lighthearted cocktail. The drink is traditionally made with unaged white rum, which yields a light, crisp flavor. Using Cuban rum will score you points for authenticity, although many modern Cuban rums are lighter in style than their predecessors, so you might try experimenting with white rums until you find one that you like best.

The Mojito is slightly more labor-intensive than other cocktails because it involves muddling the mint, but the end result is worth the effort. The mint combines with the other ingredients for an extra dose of refreshment that, while often associated with summer, can be enjoyed any time of the year

If you prefer your cocktails with a dash of literary history, you’re in luck. The Mojito is said to have been a favorite of Ernest Hemingway who, according to local lore, partook of them regularly at the Havana bar La Bodeguita del Medio.

Ingredients

3 mint leaves

1/2 ounce simple syrup

2 ounces white rum

3/4 ounce lime juice , freshly squeezed

Club soda , to top

Garnish: mint sprig

Garnish: lime wheel

Lightly muddle the mint with the simple syrup in a shaker.

Add the rum, lime juice and ice, and give it a brief shake, then strain into a highball glass over fresh ice. Alternatively, you can use pebble ice instead and gently swizzle it all together.

Top with the club soda.

Garnish with a mint sprig and lime wheel.

Mint Sprig Garnish

Firmly slap the mint sprig on the back of your hand before garnishing; this releases the oils to make the mint more aromatic.

The Real Mojito

This is an authentic recipe for mojito. I sized the recipe for one serving, but you can adjust it accordingly and make a pitcher full. It's a very refreshing drink for hot summer days. Be careful when drinking it, however. If you make a pitcher you might be tempted to drink the whole thing yourself, and you just might find yourself talking Spanish in no time!

This Cuban cocktail is a blend of a few simple ingredients, but the resulting drink is the perfect balance of sweet and tart, not to mention refreshing! What makes this a five-star recipe? It stays true to the original mojito with real, fresh ingredients. The recipe makes one serving, but you can easily scale it up to make a pitcher for summertime entertaining.

What Is a Mojito?

A mojito is a classic highball drink that originated in Cuba. Not surprisingly, this cocktail uses ingredients indigenous to Cuba, including rum, lime, mint, and sugar. The mixture is topped off with a little club soda to create a thirst-quenching libation. It requires a bit more labor than many mixed drinks, as it involves first muddling fresh mint, lime, and sugar together to release the flavors. But it's well worth it for a refreshing, fizzy, and mildly sweet rum cocktail that remains one of the most popular to this day.

Mojito Ingredients

Always use white rum for mojitos. Avoid spiced rums, because these will take away from the freshness of the mint and lime.

Spearmint is most commonly used for mojitos and is what you'll likely find at the grocery store labeled generically as "mint." For an authentic Cuban mojito, use mojito mint, or Mentha x villosa, a type of mint native to Cuba with a more understated flavor than that of spearmint.

Use freshly squeezed limes for best flavor. When shopping for limes, look for fruits with smooth skin, as this indicates the fruit is full of juice.

Folks often substitute simple syrup for sugar in mojitos because it blends into the drink more smoothly. However, classic mojito recipes call for granulated sugar. Not only does this ensure the drink isn't overly sweet, but the occasional undissolved sugar granule adds texture that's signature to a classic mojito. If you prefer, you can use superfine/caster sugar in place of granulated sugar, as this will dissolve more easily into cold liquid.

Top everything off with club soda to lighten up the drink and balance out the other ingredients.

What You'll Need to Make a Mojito

As with most cocktails, crafting mojitos requires a few special tools — namely, a muddler. This bartending tool is used to crush fresh herbs and fruits to help release their flavors. If you don't have a muddler, use the end of a wooden spoon instead.

Allrecipes Community Tips and Praise

"Light, refreshing and a perfect blend of tart and sweet," says reviewer winelight .

"Plan to make 2 or more pitchers if you have more than a couple of friends," says reviewer LeslieRN72 . "These mojitos go down easily and are gone in a flash!"

"This is the closest I've found to a real mojito like your favorite bartender will mix for you," says reviewer Stenner . "It's essential that you use fresh spearmint and lime."

Mojito – to Drink or to Sail?

Although sipping a fine refreshing mojito aboard a nice sailing yacht is a special summer pleasure, the mojito in this post does not refer to a type of cocktail, but to a sailing yacht. Mojito 888 is a brand new and extremely interesting sailing yacht model made by the French boat manufacturer Idbmarine . It is described as a family speeder because it is big enough to accommodate a small family and is good enough to win a race.

Mojito 888

The Mojito 888 deserves our attention not only for her extraordinary appearance and hull designed by Pierre Rolland, but because it was elected the sailboat of the year 2015 by the French magazine Voile . The cockpit is large and spacious, just like on fast ocean speeders. It provides enough space to control the sail area of 56 m 2 (31 m 2 mainsail and 25 m 2 genoa). The optional solent and spinnaker surfaces amount to 17 m 2 and 75 m 2 . The Mojito 888’s hull is 8.88 m long with maximum beam of 3.45 m, while her swinging keel draft ranges between 2.25 m and 0.95 m. A fix keel option is also available.

The Mojito 888 is powered by a 14 HP Yanmar bi-cylinders engine , fueled by diesel from a 34 l capacity tank. Fresh water is stored in a 120 l water tank and can be used in separate shower and toilet compartments and a sink in the galley to the portside. Aside from the galley , the saloon is equipped with two straight settees and a folding wooden dining table , as well as a chart table with instrument area for navigation to the starboard.

Mojito 888

The front cabin is equipped with a triangular double berth while the aft cabin includes the standard double berthing . The constructors of Mojito 888 have found enough space under the cockpit to accommodate a rubber dinghy , while double polyester rudders are controlled by a single steering wheel . At the end of the day, all the mentioned data indicates that this is a yacht designed for the ultimate fun on the sea, and the yacht’s name indicates the same, after all…

I wish you a calm sea, a fine wind and a strong mast!
