Freshly launched at the 2023 Miami International Boat Show, the Viking 90 is the company’s new flagship, replacing its popular 92-footer that was launched in the 2015 model year. Viking built and delivered 21 of the 92s, and was prepared to continue, but new International Maritime Organization emission regulations required the installation of heavy, large, and potentially dangerous Selective Catalytic Reduction systems. Because the required equipment to deal with these changes neither existed nor would be available to maintain the boat’s production schedule, Viking was forced to discontinue the production of the 92.

A bitter tale perhaps, but since 1964, when Bill and Bob Healey founded the Viking Yacht Company in New Gretna, New Jersey, the builder has dealt with all sorts of stumbling blocks, including the early 1990s federal luxury tax that crushed the marine industry, and several recessions. Recent challenges include COVID-related supply-chain issues and a proposed 10-knot East Coast speed restriction due to right whale conundrums. Yet, somehow, none of these obstacles stopped Viking from carrying out its mantra to “build a better boat every day.”

Some 5,000 boats later, Viking president and CEO Pat Healey charged his design, engineering, and production teams to renew that commitment again and build a new flagship. Investing $20 million in research and creating more than 240 new molds, including hull, topside, flybridge and interior, and pouring in reservoirs of sweat equity and tens of thousands of man-hours, the unveiling of the new Viking 90 as a flagship is no fish story. As with any Viking, a new model must be as good as or better than what it replaces, and the Viking 90 is all that and more.

Cockpit and Mezzanine

The 90’s cockpit is 224 square feet and includes a 203-gallon livewell built into the transom that can double as a fish box. A pair of 103-gallon insulated fish boxes line the cockpit sole, and each can be refrigerated or serve as a depository for the dual Eskimo ice chippers. A watertight centerline deck hatch opens to access the Seakeeper 35 gyrostabilizer for maintenance and routine inspections.

The cockpit work area resembles the 92, so there is undergunwale storage, and the lower-mezzanine seating provides air conditioning for relaxing, watching baits, and staying close to the cockpit action. Insulated boxes and other compartments stow gear, drinks and tackle, and the crew quarters are also accessed through this area. The upper mezzanine is reached by way of flanking steps from the cockpit sole and includes an L-shaped aft-facing lounge, a teak table, and an available 43-inch flat-screen television that drops down from the overhead. Another seating area to starboard provides an electric grill, a cocktail ice machine, and drawer storage. Artisan teak decking and a faux-teak bulkhead and cockpit trim work make for a custom feel.

Interior and Accommodations

Stepping into the salon through the electric sliding door, you can see that the interior matches what the 92 provided, starting with access to the enclosed bridge via a wide staircase to starboard. The 92’s interior was a hit with each owner, so the design group capitalized on those previous efforts, essentially fitting the interior accommodations of the 92 into the new 90 hull and deckhouse footprints.

A massive U-shaped lounge to port faces the starboard-side entertainment center with a 65-inch television that rises from the walnut cabinetry, which is available in either a satin or gloss finish, along with a wet bar, sink and icemaker. Slightly forward, the starboard galley with engineered-stone countertops offers tremendous space for several place settings, five bar stools, and commercial-grade appliances. Opposite the galley, there’s an immense U-shaped walnut table on a raised platform that provides a home for rod storage. There is a day head to port and a walk-in pantry to starboard that can also serve as a makeshift stateroom.

The 90-footer’s design group reworked the 92’s overnight accommodations and tweaked an inch here and there to refine the available space with the goal to streamline each stateroom while retaining the size of each bed and entryway. The master stateroom utilizes the full beam, providing a king-size walk-around bed, end tables, credenza, 65-inch television, walk-in closet, lounge seat, vanity and desk. His-and-her heads are separated by a walk-in glass-framed shower. Four other staterooms, each with a private head and fiberglass shower, provide comfort and privacy. The aft crew quarters also include a small galley and laundry center, enabling the 90 to easily spend a month at sea.

Hull No. 1 is built with a climate-controlled enclosed bridge with the skybridge option, with 9-plus feet of freeboard forward and 3-plus feet aft.

The unbroken sheerline melds these dimensions into a silky-smooth transition from bow to stern, and bridge to waterline. The enclosed bridge adds a number of features, including a second salon with an L-shaped lounge, a high-low walnut cocktail table, refrigeration, and a 43-inch pop-up television. The command helm is a home run, and especially noteworthy for its one-piece, wraparound forward windshield that maximizes the operator’s visibility without the typical distractions caused by vertical mullions. The added visibility also benefits passengers sitting in the flanking Stidd companion seats, whose view is equally unobstructed. Viking subsidiary Atlantic Marine Electronics equipped the helm with five 24-inch Seatronx MFDs, while the lower portion of the helm console is outfitted with radio boxes, instruments, SidePower bow-thruster controls, Optimus steering, and MTU engine controls.

Outside, AME complemented the aft-station layout with a pair of Seatronx 19-inch displays, which also include full engine controls and communication equipment. A sitting area is to port, separated by a ladder to the skybridge. The skybridge features the craftsmanship of Viking’s other subsidiary, Palm Beach Towers, which completed the fiberglass hardtop and added a host of accessories, including Rupp hydraulic outriggers, spreader lights, teaser reels, custom bridge railings, and a radar pod. Viking also offers the 90 convertible in an open-bridge style.

Engine Room and Performance

The gleaming Snow White Awlgrip-painted engine room has more than 7 feet of headroom on the centerline, with 40 inches between the main engines. Twin 2,600 hp MTUs provide walkaround accessibility to various systems, including the Furuno CSH8L sonar tube, Octoplex digital switching system, and the Optimus steering system. Components are neatly labeled, and composite seacocks help stem corrosion and reduce weight.

The centralized seawater system has been redesigned to reduce complexity and incorporates ElectroSea’s Clearline system with dual pumps to increase reliability and component longevity. A chilled-water air-conditioning system provides 18 tons of cooling with reverse-cycle heat and individual controls throughout the interior.

Twelve people were on board for our sea trial off the coast of Palm Beach, Florida. With a fuel load of 70 percent, the 90 hustled to an average top speed of 38 knots, where one pass read 39.3 knots on the GPS. At 2,100 rpm, the boat eases along at 32-plus knots to deliver a range of some 582 nautical miles.

The Viking Yacht Company hasn’t missed a beat in nearly 60 years of continuous production, and the passing of its 92 is just another milestone in the company’s history. So, it’s safe to say, with 16 90-footers already on order, the beat goes on.

Viking 92 Yacht: Everything You Want To Know

Ian Fortey

The Viking 92 yacht was launched by Viking in 2014 and came with three different models. There was an enclosed bridge, a convertible and a skybridge model available, each with very similar features and specs overall, with the obvious difference being in the deck layout and design.

The yacht is a powerful and sleek sport fishing boat with a lot of great features. At 93 feet it’s a formidable vessel as well that really dominates on the water and cuts an amazing profile with that huge elevated deck that lets you see and be seen from all angles.

How Much Does a 92 Viking Cost?

viking yachts interior

You can expect to pay around $10 million for a Viking 92 yacht but there is some wiggle room there. The model was produced over several years to older versions that have been around for a spell will likely not be as expensive. And, as with any vessel, what features you want included can offer a difference in pricing.

For instance, just as 2022 was coming to a close you could pick up a 2017 Viking 92 enclosed bridge on Yacht World for $9,950,000. A 2020 Skybridge Viking 92 would set you back $11,950,000.

viking yachts interior

Overall condition of the boat and whether it was an enclosed bridge or a skybridge are big factors that can change the overall cost by a million dollars or more. One of the biggest factors that can affect cost is the engine and there are always choices depending on how powerful you want your boat to be.

At 92 feet this is a large boat and a crew would also likely be necessary to keep it running. Along with the crew, fuel costs would be in the tens of thousands of dollars per year. Depending on how often you were likely to take the boat out, yearly costs to maintain the Viking 92 could easily top $500,000. That said, if you have reliable friends or family to serve as the actual crew, you’d be saving yourself some cash but that’s probably not what most people with $10 million yachts are doing.

What are the Viking 92 Specs

viking yachts interior

Though the specs for some older models that date back to 2014 are slightly different in terms of fuel capacity, in general these are the specs for the more recent Viking 92 models. Older ones seemed to have a slightly lower fuel capacity though it’s likely they just upgraded engines at some point.

  • Length Overall – 93 ft. 3 in (28.42 m) making it a larger yacht
  • Beam – 24 ft. 1 in. (7.34 m)
  • Draft – 5 ft. 11 in. (1.80 m)
  • Standard Engines (additional option available which could significantly alter the price) – CAT / C32A 1925 1925 MHP Base with MTU Series 2000 / V 16 M96L 2635 MHP Option
  • Fuel Capacity – 4,015 gals. (15,198 l)
  • Gross Weight – 205,000 lbs. (92,986 kg)
  • Water Capacity – 485 gals. (1,836 liters)
  • Cockpit Area – 238 sq. ft. (22.10 sq. m)

What’s the Viking 92 Interior Like?

viking yachts interior

The interior of the Viking 92 is a real step up from what a lot of fishing boats can offer. But hey, for $10 million what do you expect? The sheer amount of space available is what’s stunning and it has a real vibe of almost being a hotel on the water which is very cool. If you’ve never tried fishing from a boat that cracks 90 feet, the difference is something else. Most of us are probably used to the smaller fishing boats , hell I used to fish on a 12 foot jon boat , so the Viking 92 is the difference between Salisbury steak and filet mignon. This walkthrough gives you a great look at the Viking 92 both inside and out.

The interior of these boats definitely took them above and beyond your typical fishing boat to something a little more luxurious. Some notable features of the interior include:

  • The yacht features five staterooms. Each room has its own private head and a shower.
  • Aft full beam crew quarters with a galley and a head with shower. These quarters have access to the cockpit and feature upper and lower berths
  • The full beam master suite features hotel-like amenities. It’s furnished with a king size bed, a wardrobe, a table, and an extensive head. It even has a walk-in closet.
  • An outside galley and grilling area
  • Propulsion choices include offerings by Caterpillar and MTU
  • A two-level mezzanine and 238-square-foot tournament-ready cockpit with fighting chair
  • The mezzanine offers both rear facing lounge seating, along with a second seating area and a table for al fresco dining.

What is the 92 Viking Fuel Capacity and Range?

viking yachts interior

The Viking 92 has a fuel capacity of 4,015 gallons. This gives the vessel a range of around 1,500 nautical miles based on feedback I’ve seen from previous owners. When you’re out specifically for fishing it’s a decent range to get you where you need to go. These vessels were often used not just for sport fishing but for tournament fishing as well.

What’s the Viking 92 Top Speed?

viking yachts interior

The Viking 92, despite its size, can hit some good speeds. Cruising speed is about 30 knots while she tops out at an impressive 37 knots. This is in part due to how the hull has been designed and shaped as well as some other drag reduction innovations that can help it move more smoothly.

With the MTU Series 2000 / V16 M96L diesel engines, the 92 Viking can hit speeds of 35 knots and reach a cruise speed of 31 knots.

What are Some Other Features of the Viking 92?

viking yachts interior

Owners can add a 43-foot tuna tower. These towers are lightweight but tough and can be tailored to an individual boater’s needs then attached to the yacht without compromising balance, access or practicality.

The enclosed deck features a massive flybridge with room for sofas, cabinets and storage, a wet bar and more. The helm features three Stidd helm chairs and a console with VIPER steering, all your instrumentation and bow thruster controls. At the rear of the bridge is an open aft-deck with a set of aft-helm controls and a three-seater sofa.

viking yachts interior

The option is there for open or closed bridge depending on your likes, as well as custom choices like two-tier cockpit mezzanine or upper seating in the rear. A salon to the front takes up the entire width of the boat and features things like:

  • A U-shaped settee situated to port
  • A large cocktail table
  • Two upholstered chairs set to starboard
  • A 65-inch flat screen TV emerges from the walnut teak cabinetry
  • A galley surrounded by the L-shaped granite counter and complete with appliances, stainless steel countertops and a backsplash.
  • Four bar stools are placed at the bar.
  • A laundry center for use by passengers and a second laundry center for crew use
  • A formal dining area accommodates 6 to 8 people and is found across from the bar with a quartz-topped table that can seat up to 6 people
  • Built-in refrigeration and freezer space
  • Large and ample storage
  • Insulated fish wells below the main cockpit sole.
  • Rod and electronic stowage near the helm station
  • A reinforced entertainment area with another large 50-inch television

viking yachts interior

Options for a Viking 92 could cover an immense range of things from extended warranty cover to things like:

  • Seakeeper SK 35
  • Furuno Omni Sonar
  • LED backlit Lumix white Quartzite countertops
  • MTU Dynamic Positioning with joystick control
  • 2nd anchor windlass system
  • Viking skybridge with Palm Beach Towers hard top
  • Atlantic Marine Electronics
  • Extra fuel capacity- (4) tanks total

Does Viking Still Make the 92?

viking yachts interior

In 2022 Viking retired the 92 model and replaced it with the Viking 90. The reason for this is because of an international emissions mandate from the IMO or International Maritime Organization. This dates back to 2015 and, in order to align with that mandate, Viking has gone back to the drawing board to redesign a yacht that meets these IMO Tier III standards. The aim of this mandate is to reduce nitrogen-oxide emissions 70% more than the Tier II standard for all vessels with a load-line length greater than 78 feet. Tier III targets the gasses that contribute to smog and acid rain, deplete the planet’s ozone layer, and aggravate asthma in humans. All yachts that fall under this category must install Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems in engine rooms that scrub emissions using urea.

The new Viking 90 luxury cruising yacht is very comparable to the 92 and costs about $11.6 million brand new. Again, various options and add on can great change this overall price.

The Bottom Line

The Viking 92 was released in 2014 and typically averages around $10 million. Available as an enclosed bridge, a convertible or a skybridge, this luxury sport fishing yacht offered some amazing features and amenities as well as great performance. From a majestic living room to walk in pantries, private facilities, numerous standard and optional accessories, Viking yachts really set the standard for what a sport fishing motor yacht could offer.

Due to changes in emissions standards, Viking stopped production of the 92 in 2022 and has replaced it with a slightly altered model known as the Viking 90.

Can someone tell me what the square footage of the interior of a ‘92 is? If not the 92’ then the 90’ will do. It will be a game changer for the wife. We are thinking of purchasing one instead of a new summer home. If it doesn’t have the sq. footage she won’t go for it. And, if she doesn’t, I will have to settle for a day fisherman.

Viking’s New 90-Foot Sportfish Yacht

  • By Kim Kavin
  • August 1, 2023

Viking Yachts 90C

Viking Yachts made more than a few anglers happy with its Viking 92 model, delivering 21 of those boats to new owners in a span of seven years. But then, a few years ago, eco-minded regulations came into play that would have required additional equipment on board—equipment that was problematic in so many ways that the builder decided to design a new model instead, one that was just a bit smaller to avoid the regulatory size cutoff. That new sport fishing model is the 90C, which premiered at the Miami International Boat Show in February 2023. As of early April 2023, 16 of the 90Cs had already been sold.

“We designed it right under 24 meters,” says Pat Healey, president and CEO of Viking Yachts. “We took 13 inches out of the beam, 27 inches out of the length, we got it under 24 meters, and we gained outstanding performance. The boat cruises at 32, 33 knots, tops out at 38 full of fuel. We see 40 knots every day with it—that’s a big increase in speed over the 92. The 92 is an awesome, incredible boat, but this boat, it’s seven years of building 92s—everything we learned from doing that, we took it and put it into this boat.”

Viking Yachts 90C interior

The 90C’s features include a 203-gallon transom fish box/livewell, a pair of 103-gallon insulated in-deck fish boxes (with optional refrigeration), a Seakeeper 35, and a cockpit sole that’s reinforced for a fighting chair, rocket launcher or table. Inside are six staterooms and seven heads, along with a full-size stackable washer and dryer.

Hull No. 1 of the 90C is being used as a demo boat on the tournament circuit. It was headed to the Bahamas as this issue went to press, with Healey pleased about its performance: “It just does things like a 70- or 80-foot boat, but you have the accommodations of a 92.”

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

viking yachts interior

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

viking yachts interior

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

viking yachts interior

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

viking yachts interior

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

viking yachts interior

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

viking yachts interior

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

viking yachts interior

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
