Large superyachts visiting London, England on the river Thames are an exciting spectacle, but also a fantastic base to access events and the central parts of the city, making London a very interesting yacht charter prospect. There are also luxury yacht marinas and berths available with more currently being developed.

On such marina is the historic St Katharine Docks in central London which has berthage for 200 luxury yachts and historic barges. A haven of tranquillity and nestled in the heart of the City of London, St Katharine’s is directly adjacent to the iconic Tower Bridge and next to the Tower of London. The marina is home to visiting and local superyachts and also provides space for private and corporate events amongst the associated commercial buildings.

St Katharine Docks has a thousand years of dramatic history to its name, making it one of the most interesting marina histories in the world.  King Edgar originally gifted 13 acres of land to 13 knights in 1125for trade. St Katharine’s docks have been used ever since throughout the ages for one purpose or another and then in 1825 construction began on the docks, laying down the framework for what you see today.

Sunseeker in London

When visiting the UK with London on the itinerary, yachts also dock in the city of Southampton in south-west England. Many vessels drop anchor at Ocean Village Marina or Hamble Point Marina. Expect a coach or train journey time of around 1 hour 20 minutes from Southampton into South London.

London, the UK’s exciting capital city attracts visitors from around the world. Go shopping in Oxford Street, Regent Street as well as famous department stores like Harrods, Harvey Nichols or Selfridges. How about a night out at the theatre? Watch a play, musical, drama or ballet at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, the London Palladium or the Old Vic. There are many places to visit in London. It’s such a diverse city with some of the world’s best sights, attractions and activities.

See the city from above on the London Eye, meet a celeb at Madame Tussaud’s or examine the treasures at the British Museum. Sightseeing couldn’t be better. Check out the underwater creatures at Sea Life London or marvel at the strange objects in the Science Museum. There really is something for everyone in London and plenty to do to make up a luxury yacht charter itinerary.

Kismet superyacht deck in london

Buy a day ticket for a London, red double-decker bus on-off tour. What a great vantage point to catch fantastic views of the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, St. Paul’s Cathedral and of course, Buckingham Palace. You’ll get a birds-eye view of London Bridge, Tower Bridge, Westminster Abbey and the Changing of the Guard. Spend an afternoon at London Zoo, home to more than 16,000 animals like tigers, hippos, and giraffes.

A little outside London is Kensington Palace, an intriguing Royal Palace that also houses an exhibition of Princess Diana’s dresses. Find out where Queen Victoria lived as a child and see the wonderful collection of paintings from the Royal Collection. To keep you in holiday mode, take a river cruise down the River Thames. Relax and enjoy the magnificent views as you sail past Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, Cleopatra’s Needle, The Shard and the London Eye Pier. After so much excitement, it’s back to your superyacht in Southampton for the next part of your voyage.

Shepperton Marina is a good place to fill up offering petrol and diesel. Look out for those marinas with a Gold Anchor rating. The scheme has been designed by The Yacht Harbour Association, with contribution from the RYA, to help boat owners make an informed decision on where to berth.

The River Thames offers a great choice for those looking to have a boat restored or a new one built and the long established boatyards along the Thames also offer many other services.

Marinas offer a range of facilities and services for yachts and small boats.  As well as moorings you may also find facilities for refuelling, marine and boat chandlers, stores and restaurants and even an opportunity to buy your own boat. Bray Marine Sales is based at Bray Marina and Thames Boat House is just upriver from Shepperton Marina.

Enjoy a visit to a Thames Marina

Most of the marinas along the River Thames can be found in country park or tranquil garden settings along some of the loveliest reaches of the Thames.  A great place for a walk, a picnic, or lunch alongside the river. Enjoy the relaxed bistro atmosphere at riverside restaurants such as the Riverside Brasserie at Bray Marina or GoGos at Racecourse Marina , Windsor.

“It was our intention from the outset to conceive a resort with sustainability truly at its heart that will do good for both people and place,” Majumder and Bourtov said in a statement . “Within this framework, Zamani Islands will also set new standards for a lifestyle destination both within the Maldives and globally.”

Zamani Islands Marina

Zamani Islands will have a strong focus on sustainability, too. The resort is designed to run on 100 percent renewable energy and could eventually produce up to 50 percent of its own food. Furthermore, Atoll Estates has carefully selected eco-friendly construction materials and has implemented a coral relocation and propagation program. That means you can feel extra good during your stay.

The first part of Zamani Islands will open in spring 2026.

Happy Customers

Fantastic! Absolutely love this place, set in a pretty place and has great security. Fab staff always willing to help.

I have thoroughly enjoyed mooring my boat at Stourport Marina. All the staff were very helpful and were always available to answer any questions or sort out any problems. I’d recommend anyone who is looking for a mooring go to Stourport marina. Definitely 5 star!

Perfect place for a mooring, having access to the idyllic River Wey. Beautiful surroundings, lovely relaxing atmosphere. People at the Marina are very friendly and welcoming.

Amazingly friendly helpful staff, in sales, maintenence and chandlery. A beautiful location, kept in amazing condition thanks to the incredible ground crew, and without doubt the most secure marina on the Thames. Facilities are spot on, and really find it hard to fault anything!

Super Marina! We moored on a visitor mooring for a couple of nights, we were made to feel very welcome by the staff, can highly recommend and will definitely be visiting again

Puerto Rico’s Superyacht Marina Plans

  • By Kim Kavin
  • July 23, 2024

San Juan

Safe Harbor Marinas is continuing its efforts to expand superyacht marinas and services outside the usual locations. The company has reportedly inked a deal with the government of Puerto Rico to transform two docks into a marina able to service about six of these larger yachts.

Plans are for the first phase of construction to be up and running by the end of this year, with the second phase completed in late 2025. Overall, Safe Harbor is expected to invest $12 million to $15 million in the project.

The announcement follows other additions to the Safe Harbor network with an eye toward servicing superyachts. About a year ago, Safe Harbor acquired Savannah Yacht Center in Georgia. At the time of that deal, Baxter Underwood, CEO of Safe Harbor Marinas, said: “The world’s largest vessels have historically been forced to cross the Atlantic for certain services. This facility allows us to serve them with excellence here in the United States and inside the Safe Harbor network.”

The new Puerto Rico facility will not be Safe Harbor’s first foray onto the island. In 2021, the company acquired Puerto Del Rey, which is in Fajardo. It’s marketed as the largest marina in the Caribbean, with wet slips for about 1,000 vessels along with dry stacks for another 750.

Ponce de León statue

Superyachts bring a higher level of investment into the communities where they tie up. The new facility in Puerto Rico is expected to generate more than $10 million in economic activity for the island, with Puerto Rico’s Port Authority receiving $200,000 a year in rental fees. Safe Harbor will also share a portion of the gross income and fuel-sale profits.

Strategic Gem

The San Juan Historical Site is part of the National Park Service as well as being a World Heritage Site. Defense of this strategically important site was paramount for the government of Spain, which fortified it for more than 250 years.   acreage is substantial, with the site encompassing 75 square acres. The historic walls alone span a distance of 2.7 miles. Visitors to the site typically number more than a million a year, with kids and adults alike eager to explore the tunnels and dungeons. Kite flying is also a favorite family activity in the expanses of green grass. Photo buffs like this site not only for its architecture, but also because it includes the highest points of Old San Juan. The spots where lookouts used to roam are now great for capturing keepsake images.

Can i pop in to visit you.

Absolutely! We can get busy – especially on weekends – so if you would like to view a particular boat, we do recommend you book an appointment with us by calling 01189 403211.

How much does it cost to keep a boat?

A general rule of thumb is that if you take your mooring fee, and double it, that will typically be the average cost for looking after your boat each year. This includes insurance, river licence, maintenance, wear and tear repairs, plus a good amount of fuel  – assuming you’re sailing on inland waterways, not offshore power-boating.

Do you have moorings available?

For the last few years the moorings in our marina have been full. Our current waiting list is for those who have purchased a new boat through us, so sadly it is often difficult to get a space in our marina for existing boat owners.

Can you sell my boat?

If it’s a motorboat in good condition, then most likely – yes! We will be fully transparent about the asking price of your boat, and we will only encourage you to list with us when we are confident we can get great value for you. We specialise in glass-fibre motorboats from £10,000 through to £500,000 – and can lift boats up to 42 foot / 14 tonnes. If we cannot help, we’d be more than happy to recommend an alternative broker.

Do you have space for a narrowboat?

Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate narrowboats as our moorings are limited in size and we can only lift motorboats.

Do you have a chandlery?

MEC Marine runs a chandlery in Willow Marina, and is a separate business to us, so please call them directly on 01189 401141.

Manhattan Beach property breaks city record again with $24.5M trade

Fortress takes back Fort Lauderdale marina, RV park in $86M deed in lieu of foreclosure

Investors Gary Cioffi and Christopher Hein lose 20-acre property after capital improvements

Investors Lose Yacht Haven Fort Lauderdale to Lender Fortress

From left: Fortress Investment Group co-CEOs Joshua Pack and Drew McKnight (Getty, Fortress Investment Group)

The investors in a Fort Lauderdale RV park and marina surrendered the property to the lender through a deed in lieu of foreclosure valued at $85.8 million.

Gary Cioffi and Christopher Hein handed back the keys to the 20.2-acre Yacht Haven Park & Marina at 2295 and 2323 West State Road 84 to Fortress Investment Group, according to records and real estate database Vizzda.

In a deed in lieu of foreclosure , borrowers in trouble with debt obligations come to an agreement with lenders that avoids a foreclosure suit. The borrower hands over the keys of the property to the lender in exchange for a guarantee that the lender won’t pursue legal action or further payments.

South Florida commercial real estate thrived over the past four years due to an influx of residents and businesses, but the market has felt the sting of economic headwinds more recently. Higher interest rates, coupled with skyrocketing property insurance, have dented investors’ cash flow and made it difficult to refinance.

Cioffi and Hein, through their Fort Lauderdale Motorcoach Resort and Yacht Club entity, bought the RV park and marina for $58.1 million in 2021, taking out an $81.7 million loan from New York-based Fortress, records show. The financing was for the purchase and renovation of Yacht Haven.

Cioffi and Hein planned to pump over $20 million of the financing into renovations. The investors started the work, reconfiguring the RV sites to make them more spacious, and reducing the number of pads from 265 to 222. Yacht Haven also has a pool and 55 side-tie boat slips that can accommodate up to 150-foot yachts, a property brochure shows.

Distress has manifested across South Florida property types, though most prominently in office buildings, followed by multifamily developments. This month, Bridge Investment Group sold a Sunrise office complex for $49 million , marking a 34 percent price cut from five years ago, while Nuveen Real Estate sold a 197-unit Plantation apartment complex for $49.4 million , marking a 5 percent discount from a decade ago.

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

<< Previous page

Pages:  379-406

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.

Keywords: Tuva, Early Iron Age, early Scythian period, Aldy-Bel culture, barrow, burial in the coffin, mummy, full genome sequencing, aDNA
