A Day On Board Our Yacht At The Monaco Grand Prix

It’s a day of refined tranquil luxury watching some of the most exciting sporting action on the planet, a day to look forward to and remember forever.

If you want glamour, prestige and an unbeatable adrenalin rush, this has to be the best there is – watching the Monaco Grand Prix from a luxury yacht that’s close enough to the action you can virtually feel the whoosh of air as the cars race by at 140mph. You’ll certainly hear the boom of their awe-inspiring power!

Delicious food and drinks served on board complete the millionaire feel of this day. From local French wines to fresh juice and then there’s the amazing food… mouthwatering lobster, quality meats, a variety of excellent cheeses. You won’t want to ever leave the yacht.

Monaco Hospitality Packages at the Grand Prix

First raced in 1929, the Monaco Grand Prix is regarded as the most eminent and esteemed car race in the world. Taking place in May on the Circuit de Monaco, household names such as Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso will drive fast and hard in their Formula One (the highest class of single-seat auto racing) sleek machines.

All the racing-car action is on a slender course created around Monaco’s streets – that mean it’s a treacherous place to race. Only the very best high-speed drivers with their wits and skill fully about them can handle its many twists, turns and the famous tunnel.

trackside yachts

Rocket Hospitality’s yacht hospitality excitement starts at Fontvielle Harbour, the next bay from Monaco’s Port Hercules harbour. Keep an eye out here for famous Fontvielle residents such as former Wimbledon tennis champions Björn Borg and Boris Becker; and racing driver such as David Coulthard.

At 8.30am, you’ll make the 10-minute picturesque trip on a RIB lightweight high-performance boat to the harbour in Monaco where some of the most stunning yachts around are moored. A champagne breakfast greets guests to an amazing luxury yacht moored in a prime location in Monaco harbour (and with excellent views of the huge screens that show the build-up, entire race and celebrations afterwards).

Moored in two great locations, Rocket’s yachts view either the super-fast straight between Chicane du Port and Tabac, which is a tricky tight corner taken at about 120mph; or between Tabac and Piscine, a fast left-right section of the course.

There’s a complimentary bar throughout, delicious full gourmet lunch served on board, and friendly bilingual staff on hand to assist with anything to make the day go wonderfully. After the race has been won, at around 5pm it’s either time to return by the RIB boat to Fontvielle Harbour or get off the yacht to explore Monaco from there on foot.

It’s an easy enough place to get around. Neatly tucked away into less than a square mile, the world’s second-smallest country (after Vatican City) officially has a 38,500 population, but those numbers are greatly boosted by tourists who are drawn to Monaco’s splendour. It makes the nightlife absolutely fantastic and the streets are filled with happy party people.

Situated in the French Riviera, surrounded by a lovely landscape and facing into the tantalising turquoise Mediterranean Sea, Monaco enjoys a wonderfully warm climate (and for residents there’s also the attraction of paying no income tax!). Unsurprisingly there’s a fantastic choice of quality places to eat and a wide range of impressive architecture, including the well-known Monte Carlo Casino.

You could even have the chance of becoming one of those super-wealthy Monaco residents if you pay it a visit! Give it a go, you never know…

By Steph Loseby   24 May 2023

Getting ready for all the thrill and action of the Monaco F1 Grand Prix 2023 , a dazzling fleet of 122 luxury superyachts are gathering in Port Hercules, Monaco ahead of the 80th edition of the world-famous street circuit race through Monte Carlo.

Heralding the start of the Mediterranean summer season, the  Cannes Film Festival began on May 16 and as the glamorous event draws to a close, the high-profile superyachts in town for the occasion begin migrating eastwards along the coast, making their way to Monaco in time for the next big date on the event calendar: the Monaco F1 Grand Prix .

Taking place across four days from Thursday 25 - Sunday 28 May, the race brings the South of France alive and promises to be a thrilling spectacle for avid Formula 1 fans, with plenty of VIP social events for the SuperyachtSet to enjoy.

monaco yacht formula 1

Demand for the Formula One event has proved so popular that every berth in the glamorous Port d’Hercules has been filled weeks ago, with only a few exclusive F1 hospitality packages up for grabs for those wishing to attend.

Things have changed this year as Formula One has taken control of who issues the berths, and with the number of applications massively outweighing the number of spots available for trackside viewing, only a selection of luxury yachts under 55m were lucky enough to secure a prized berth.

As normal, the larger yachts of around 70m are berthed at the T-Dock whilst additional larger superyachts are berthed in Zone 2. This area provides charter guests with a much greater degree of privacy, yet they will find they are still surrounded by the electric atmosphere of the event.

We take a look at some of the most exciting superyachts available for charter at this year’s Monaco Grand Prix.

The largest superyacht charter to soak up the atmosphere of this year’s Monaco Grand Prix is the 126m (414ft) yacht OCTOPUS . Bertherd further out of the port in Zone 2, charter guests onboard this Lürssen yacht will be able to experience the thrills of the race in total comfort and privacy.

luxury charter expedition yacht OCTOPUS

Boasting a large aft swimming pool surrounded by loungers and a full cocktail bar, a cinema suite and superb wellness amenities, the luxury expedition yacht provides guests with an abundance of spacious areas to chill out and relax as they enjoy the race weekend.

CORAL OCEAN

Situated along the T-Dock, alongside an array of larger 70m superyachts, is the  73m (239ft) Lurssen yacht CORAL OCEAN . Home to a voluminous sundeck replete with a pool, bar and plenty of seating, guests can enjoy total outdoor living perfection as they sip cocktails, lounge in the luxe seating area and watch tenders whizz by with show-goers.

monaco yacht formula 1

Additional yacht highlights include her large beach club and extensive spa facilities which guests can make the most out of during the race weekend. With a crew of 22 on hand to provide outstanding service onboard, superyacht CORAL OCEAN is the ultimate yacht for any luxury yacht charter vacation or event.

Also berthed along the T-Dock, the iconic 71m (239ft) charter yacht TITANIA is just moments away from the action. Conceived by industry-leading designers, superyacht TITANIA is a firm favorite among her guests and an enduring charter icon.

monaco yacht formula 1

Fusing opulent design with an effortless indoor-outdoor lifestyle and a wealth of modern amenities, the motor yacht is perfectly suited to entertaining on a grand scale and makes a great platform on which to host event charters . Home to an expansive beach club, a full-beam observation lounge and a well-appointed sundeck, there is a wealth of space across her four decks in which guests can relax, dine and socialize, all while soaking up the heady atmosphere.

PERSEFONI I

Bagging a spot trackside in Zone 1, the 54m (176ft) PERSEFONI I is in prime position for the race. Refitted in 2021, the Admiral Yachts superyacht is in turnkey condition to host charter guests at the adrenalin-fuelled Monaco Grand Prix and more Mediterranean yacht charter vacations this summer.

luxury charter yacht PERSEFONI I

For those looking for more privacy during the race weekend, this can be found on her vast upper deck, which features an additional Jacuzzi, full bar and observation lounge, as well as a wealth of convivial social spaces and dining options.

PANDION PEARL

Situated trackside on the straight in Zone 1, the 44m (146ft) charter yacht PANDION PEARL is berthed at an unbeatable location for witnessing the heart-stopping action of the race.

monaco yacht formula 1

Accompanied by exceptional hospitality provided by Captain Jean-Marc and his dedicated crew, the luxurious Sanlorenzo yacht offers guests a sweeping selection of sumptuous living areas laid out invitingly to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere onboard. Combining sophistication and elegance, the yacht is the perfect platform to enjoy the electrified atmosphere from the comfort and ease of a trackside berth.

Also soaking up the social atmosphere in Monaco this weekend is the 60m (196ft) SCOTT FREE and the 55m (180ft) superyacht LOON who are ready to enjoy the excitement of this year's Grand Prix.

The Prices & Parties Aboard the Iconic Yachts of the F1 Monaco Grand Prix

monaco yacht formula 1

It’s a bona fide showcase of opulence. Here’s what you need to know about the yachts at the Monaco Grand Prix.

The most expensive weekend in sports is here. Formula 1 drivers will take their talents to the French Riviera on Sunday for the Monaco Grand Prix. Sure, fans mainly flock to watch their favorite driver make the podium, but this particular race is also an excuse to show off one’s latest luxury toys.

In this case, it’s the super-yachts that provide the most picturesque backdrop for the complicated track.

Attending a Formula 1 race is already a bucket-list experience. Watching it from the upper deck of a multi-million-dollar aquatic behemoth? Not many can say they’ll have that opportunity. Logistically speaking, finding yourself on one of those things isn’t guaranteed. You either have to be the owner of the ship, know said owner personally, or eclipse celebrity status that will automatically grant you an invitation if you are even in the general vicinity.

The illustrious Port Hercules marina is the hottest place to be over the next few days, so let’s take a look at what it takes to find yourself amongst Hollywood A-listers and their Very Important Friends.

Get on our list for weekly sports business, industry trends, interviews, and more.

  • Inside the Boardroom

Securing a spot on the water is no easy feat. Many opt to rent one for the weekend, which certainly comes at a hefty price tag. According to The Sports Rush , there are 760 berths up for grabs, and the least expensive will run you $3,800 a night. But it’s no guarantee that price will grant you an acceptable vantage point of the race. If that’s a priority, then expect to pay at least $110,000 a night. Keep in mind, that doesn’t even include food, drinks, entertainment, and anything else to make your super-yacht the most exclusive of the bunch. Also, yachts perched along the inner docks of Port Hercules have a length restriction of 30 meters.

For those looking to experience opulence without the possession of a boat, there’s an option for that. Enter the super-yacht hospitality package. As Yacht Charter Fleet describes, you can still be among the who’s-who in Monte Carlo, and even get a trackside vantage point of the race. Because they don’t come with the responsibility of managing a boat, demand for this option is incredibly high. In fact, many secure their spots for next year immediately following this year’s festivities. All the same benefits like access to premier dining and extravagant amusement are still included.

Billed as the most prestigious hospitality package in Monaco, Amber Lounge is an immersive experience that aims to please. Securing a pass here is like finding a golden ticket for a trip to the Willy Wonka factory — except you’re likely feasting on the rarest of chocolate available. At this VIP spot, expect to network with F1 drivers, celebrities in town for the Cannes Film Festival, and if you’re lucky, royalty. Some of the must-attend events include fashion shows, charity events, dinners prepared by Michelin-starred chefs, and more. Individual passes for the lounge run €600 ($642) a person and climb up to €35,000 ($37,459) for a semi-private VIP suite table for 10 with free-flowing beverages and champagne. As for the yacht’s hospitality, a weekend experience aboard a cabin includes race viewing tickets, gourmet meals and afternoon tea, an open bar, and a live DJ for a cool €5,100 ($5,458) a person.

Who Owns the Largest Yacht in Monaco?

With all this talk about luxury, it certainly begs the question: What is the largest vessel? That so happens to be The Octopus , which was constructed for the late Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft and former owner of the Portland Trail Blazers, Seattle Seahawks, and Seattle Sounders. Measuring 414 feet long, The Octopus is worth $285 million and comfortably sleeps 12 guests. It has two helipads, a basketball court, a movie theater, and its own pool. The price to rent the yacht for a week is almost as extravagant as the amenities it offers, coming in at an overwhelming $2.2 million.

Here are more details about Octopus: The garage alone is 118 feet and holds 7 tenders, several jet skis, and a 10-person submarine. The boat was previously owned by the late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, costing $20M to operate each year. In January, seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton and Olympic medalist Shaun White famously rented The Octopus to cruise around Antarctica, taking the continent’s breathtaking views, stunning wildlife, and more. Hamilton is set to race in Monaco, which he has won three times.

Bahrain pre-season testing has already begun with Max Verstappen, Valtteri Bottas, Charles Leclerc and Fernando Alonso revealing their potential for the season ahead.

While every F1 Grand Prix promises excitement, the best way to experience Formula 1 front and centre is by luxury yacht. Wondering how much it costs to watch the Monaco Grand Prix on a yacht? How to find the best Grand Prix party yachts? BOAT has compiled the definitive guide on the Grand Prix by superyacht, identifying the largest and most impressive superyachts available for charter with exclusive trackside views and berths for upcoming races...

Wayfinder is available to charter with Edmiston with a weekly summer rate from €375,000

Come Together

Stats: Amels, 60m, 2022, 12 guests, DJ decks, 27m sun deck

Race availability: Monaco Grand Prix 2024

Highlights: The first of the new generation of Amels 60 limited editions superyachts, Come Together ’ s vast sun deck and sleek interiors are key selling points for entertaining during the Grand Prix. This is combined with outstanding service and a crew who go above and beyond to ensure charterers have a memorable experience on board. Generous al fresco deck areas make the 60-metre yacht a top choice for post-race parties and entertaining.

Come Together is available to charter with Y.CO with a weekly rate from €450,000

Stats: Golden Yachts, 2022, 88m, 18 guests, DJ decks, glass-edged swimming pool

Highlights: With her striking triple X design down the waist of the superstructure, the 88-metre superyacht, is certainly a head-turner – it’s not surprising that she finds herself on the list of the most expensive superyachts for charter. Her striking exterior conceals a staggering three-deck atrium, with internal balconies and a circular glass elevator that connects the decks. Project X boasts bright and contemporary spaces throughout with artful lighting by Italy’s Studio Massari . There’s even a library on the main deck and a professional DJ set up, which bridges over the main deck pool.

Project X is available to charter with Camper and Nicholsons with a weekly summer rate from €1,200,000

Stats: Perini Navi, 56m, 2004 (2022), 12 guests, water toys, race pedigree

But really she is a racer herself having actively raced across the superyacht circuit and is a regular participant at the St Barths Bucket and the Perini Navi Cup. The yacht's interiors were refreshed last year during her yard period and now have a lighter feel with bold blues and white palates. The classical feel of the yacht remains with interesting details such as the bar in the main saloon, an original piece from Hotel de Paris in the 1940s.

Zenji is available to charter with Cecil Wright with a weekly summer rate from €250,000

Stats: Stats: 52m, Sanlorenzo, 2017, 10 guests, glass bottom pool

Highlights: Seven Sins is a top choice for those who want to spend as much time out on deck lounging or watching the Grand Prix with sprawling outdoor spaces and expansive glass windows to brighten up her interiors. A key feature is the glass bottom swimming pool with a counterflow current, Jacuzzi function and speciality lighting for night-time dips. Underneath the shimmering light of the swimming pool, the vast beach club offers a drive-in tender bay as well as fold-out balconies plus a gym and sauna. Her toybox is well stocked too, offering dive and snorkelling gear, an inflatable slide, Jet Skis, kayaks and more.

Seven Sins is available to charter with YPI with a weekly summer rate from €300,000

Stats: 70.6m, Royal Denship, 2002 (2022), 12 guests, 300 guests quayside, huge spa

Capable of hosting up to 60 seated guests and over 300 guests quayside, this 70.6-metre is perfect for the Grand Prix. The bridge deck on the Royal Denship is complete with a cocktail bar, professional DJ station and disco lighting – a setup designed for partying the night away.

Her recent refit has presented her in pristine condition and a great choice for charter guests looking for wellness on the water following Grand Prix action. She has one of the largest spa complexes of any yacht afloat, and her recently rebuilt and extended stern has left her with a mammoth swim platform and sunbathing area that offers easy access to the sea.

Stats: Delta Marine , 73.1m, 2006 (2014), talented chef, impressive toy box

A top choice for an action-packed charter as her toybox is bursting at the seams with the likes of a golf tee, fishing gear, a climbing wall, mountain bikes, giant "hamster-wheel" style floating balls and much more. She also has ample deck space, perfect for entertaining after the Grand Prix.

Laurel is available for charter with IYC with a weekly charter rate from $525,000.

Stats: 85.5 metres, Oceanco , 2010, 12 guests, dining for 22, gyroscopic pool table

S unrays is available to charter with Edmiston with a weekly summer rate from €1,150,000.

Stats: Sunseeker, 40m, 2016, 10 guests, Jacuzzi, water toys

<p>The marquee attraction in Monaco is the Monte Carlo Casino. This jaw-dropping Belle Epoque building was built in the 19th century and is the brainchild of the brilliant Charles Garnier. But it’s not just about rolling the dice and hoping for a lucky streak here. Stepping inside feels like a different world with its stunning decor and detailed sculptures. If you’re thinking of swinging by after sunset, the casino’s dress code is pretty strict after 8 p.m. It’s all part of the vibe, making you feel like you’ve entered a glitzy, old-world movie scene.</p>

As you explore, check out the aquarium, get up close (but not too personal) with the residents of the Shark Lagoon, and take a stroll to the “Turtle Bubble” on the terrace. This enclosed area is a perfect habitat for sea turtles. The deck also offers breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea.

Things to Do in Monaco on Vacation

Monaco is a small spot on the map in the heart of the French Riviera, but it packs a big punch that can rival countries twice its size.

You might expect flashy cars and luxurious casinos (and trust me, there is plenty of that), but you will discover that there is so much more.

While it’s easy to be swayed by its “over the top” reputation, the real Monaco lies in its tiny alleys, panoramic views, historic sites, and the warmth of its people.

The next time you plan a European vacation, consider Monaco one of your destinations, as the best things come in small packages.

Winnie Harlow dated or was rumored to date Lewis Hamilton

Winnie Harlow

Lewis and model Winnie Harlow were first rumored to be dating in 2016 as well. She attended his Grand Prix victory party in London, and in September, they were both in attendance at the GQ Men of the Year Awards . The next month, he denied he was seeing anyone while appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show .

In 2017, he was seen hanging out with Winnie more – at the amfAR Gala , supporting him at the Monaco Grand Prix , vacationing on a yacht in Monte Carlo, and in Greece.

They seemingly remained friends throughout as they were seen posing together at the CFDA Fashion Awards in 2018 and in 2019, she cheered him on at a race.

Serena Williams got flirty with Lewis Hamilton

Serena Williams

While nothing seemed to have come of this, Lewis was reportedly getting flirty with Serena Williams at a Halloween Party in 2016.

“They were super flirty. They didn’t leave each other’s side the whole night,” a source told Page Six .

Tampa travelers, check out these tips before summer trips

The travel buzz for 2024 has been all about Paris for the July 26-Aug. 11 Summer Olympics. Before or after watching thousands of athletes compete in 32 sports, why not explore the French countryside? I recommend nourishing your soul and indulging at the new five-star Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa. The region’s first luxury wellness destination has a new 16,000-square-foot spa that incorporates treatments from Clarins, an iconic French beauty brand.

MONACO GRAND PRIX

Race car lovers: Did you get your fix during the Firestone Grand Prix in St. Pete this month? If not, follow your passion and head to Monaco May 24-26 for the Monaco Grand Prix. The glamourous Formula One motor racing event has been held annually since 1929. Stay in the newly renovated and iconic Hotel de Paris Monte-Carlo, which dates back to 1864. This slice of Riviera opulence was the setting for two James Bond movies. Stroll a few steps to the Casino de Monte-Carlo, where I learned to play baccarat (and looked for George Clooney).

BY LAND OR BY SEA

Skip the traffic and arrive at Monaco’s yacht-filled harbor by boat. I loved the SeaDream Yacht Club, with a maximum of 112 guests, 95 crew members and five-star service.

Cruising is so popular that The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection announced that their ship, Evrima, is offering 21 new voyages in the Mediterranean from April to November. This is the first time a hotel company has expanded into the luxury cruising category. Watch for the debut of the company’s new yacht, Ilma, slated to embark from Monte Carlo on Sept. 2.

SAFARI ADVENTURES

For bucket list safari adventures, I turned to a local expert. John Harvey started Opulent Africa, a high-end luxury safari company, in 2008. He has been offering African adventures from his St. Pete office since 2020. “We advise our clients to take the direct 16-hour flight from Atlanta to Johannesburg,” Harvey said. His guests then fly into the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve and choose a first-class lodge (options include the Ulusaba Rock Lodge, Singita Boulders Lodge and the Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge). Here, guests can see the “Big Five” animals (lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants and buffaloes) daily.

St. Pete resident Susan Robertson visited Kruger National Park in South Africa in 2022. “We stayed in Ulusaba, the private game reserve owned by Sir Richard Branson. Animals roamed freely and meandered alongside our private Jeep. (Branson) was there greeting guests!”

Phil Yost, a St. Pete-based business owner, visited Africa for the first time in August 2023. “Opulent Africa handled the details, so the magic unfolded with very little effort or stress. Feeding giraffes at the Giraffe Manor in Nairobi was surreal.”

AIRPORT NEWS

Tampa International Airport was named the second-best large airport in the country in USA Today’s 2023 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. The airport also added two new airlines for 2023. Porter Airlines began daily nonstop service to Toronto and Lynx Air started service to both Toronto and Montreal. On April 10, Frontier will resume flights from Tampa to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. On May 16, Frontier will bring back its route between Tampa and the Dominican resort area of Punta Cana, plus nonstop service to Montego Bay, Jamaica.
