Sam’s Marine debuts PropellerPlace.com at the 2007 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show

Sam’s Marine will introduce its unique propeller web site and inboard listing services at the upcoming Fort Lauderdale Boat Show next week. The site is a joint endeavor with its sister software company, ProNet Information Systems. The web site will provide services to both boat owners and propeller shops. Individuals with a spare propeller in their garage can list it on the web site with a photo and save the buyer some money as well. Propeller shops or manufacturers with an inventory of used or surplus propellers can sign up as an affiliate and offer their used props on the site as well.
“They say necessity is the mother of invention so when we acquired a large number of surplus propellers a while back, we used the internet to create a place to move them. It’s been so well received, we’ve expanded it to work with others in the marine industry as well.” said company spokesperson Doug Langley. The propeller place display will be at tent 904 at the Bahia Mar exhibits during the show.

Sam’s Marine Acquires Hatteras Parts Inventories from Allied Richard Bertram Marine Group

Sam’s Marine announced today that it completed a transaction with Allied Richard Bertram Marine Group to purchase all of Allied Marine’s remaining Hatteras parts inventories at their Stuart and Fort Lauderdale, Florida locations.
Allied Richard Bertram Marine Group also announced the sale of their downtown Fort Lauderdale service facility property to developers last week.
The entire stock of remaining parts inventories that were unique to the Hatteras models was purchased by Sam’s Marine and stocked at the company’s Fort Lauderdale location. Sam’s Marine is a marine parts distributor specializing in replacement parts for Hatteras Yachts models with locations in central North Carolina and Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Sam’s Marine Announces New Fort Lauderdale Location

Sam’s Marine, marine parts distributor specializing in replacement parts for Hatteras models, announced its plans to open a second sales location in Fort Lauderdale. The company, which has partnered with the manufacturer since 1998 to supply replacement parts for vintage Hatteras models, says its new retail and wholesale operation will open for business in October just before the start of this year’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.
Doug Langley, company spokesperson, stated “The new store in South Florida will allow us to better service the Hatteras community including owners, dealer locations, marinas, and service centers in the area that perform work on Hatteras models”. Ed Tysenn, formally with the Allied Marine Group, will manage the new location.
Sam’s Marine Acquires Propeller Inventory

Sam’s Marine announced today that it has acquired approximately 200 Michigan and Rolla propellers previously stocked in inventory at Hatteras Yachts. “Most of the props are new and some are used”, stated Doug Langley of Sam’s Marine. “The props have now been correctly identified and will be made available to both Hatteras owners and to propeller shops at considerable savings”. Cut from the same cloth: Sam Reich, managing director of Tibor
Sam Reich tells Ticky Hedley-Dent how he's determined to restore his grandfather’s celebrated designer textile brand - Tibor Reich - to its former glory...
Sam Reich is on a one-man mission to bring beautiful, textured fabrics into your boat and home. Reich is the grandson of the late Tibor Reich, the Hungarian-born designer who revolutionised post-war British interiors with his refreshing palette of colourful textiles. His work was found in the chicest of places, from Clarence House (where one of his fabrics was chosen by the then Princess Elizabeth in 1947) to gracing the saloons and cabins of the elegant ocean liners of the 1950s to the upholstery for the Anglo-French airliner Concorde in the 1960s.
However, in 1976 the great designer’s mill near Stratford-upon-Avon, UK, closed and none of his four children wanted to take it over. Then, at the end of last year, 20 years after his death, his entrepreneurial grandson decided to relaunch the Tibor brand and make these marvellous textiles available once again.
“A lot of these important designers of the post-war period get forgotten in history,” says Reich, who, at 26, looks like a cross between Harry Potter and Hugh Grant. “Having studied history, I was very determined to make sure that the legacy of Tibor didn’t just disappear.”
Sipping tea in the company’s studio in Holland Park, West London, Reich jokes it was “naivety” that set him on this path, but having set up a music streaming business when he was 13 it is clear he has drive. That business grew to such an extent that he spent much of his time at Bristol University running it from the family house.
Reich was only five when his grandfather died. However, after university he spent a year studying the archive of 30,000 designs, along with thousands of newspaper cuttings, and he is now very familiar with his work. Interior designer David Bentheim, who is Tibor’s nephew, has also helped with the relaunch. He worked with Tibor in the 1960s and consults on the textiles that contemporary interior designers might want to use.
To start with they have launched 10 designs in five colourways. “It’s a very, very complex process,” says Reich, holding a bobbly yarn spool. “We start by sourcing the wools. We’ll take a fabric from the archive and then I work with the yarn spinners. You match the yarns and then you spin the yarns and send them off to the dyers.” After this they are twisted, weaved and finished. “Most just buy stock yarn. We do it the proper way from start to finish. That’s why you end up with fabrics that have beautiful textures and they’re original.”
Tibor came from a Jewish family of textile industrialists. “He cited his inspiration in colour as coming from Hungarian peasantry outfits,” says Reich. “The factory in Budapest was weaving braids and ribbons for Hungarian national outfits.” After training in Vienna, he left in 1937 to study textiles at Leeds University. “I think he foresaw the problems [in Europe].” He set up the mill in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1946 and was soon designing fabric for the leading couturiers of the day: Norman Hartnell, Hardy Amies and House of Molyneux.
Tibor might not have strayed into interiors had it not been for the hefty tax on couture at the time. “He found a loophole in that if he could produce fabrics of a certain weight in interiors, you wouldn’t get that massive purchase tax,” says Reich. “In 1947 he started to bring this idea of fashion into furnishings and that is very much what we do.”
Tibor reached his zenith at the right time in history. At the Festival of Britain in 1951, he revealed his deep textured fabrics on the latest furniture in daring new shades: kingfisher blue, sunshine yellow and Siamese pink – a complete break from the drab colours available during post-war rationing.
Tibor played with the yarns, mixing threads the way a painter blends and builds colour. He designed all the fabrics for the Royal Shakespeare Company, naming them after Shakespearean characters. “That was his major break into big manufacturing and he started working with all the big furniture manufacturers of the day like Ercol and G Plan,” says Reich.
Then came the boats. “The Cunards and so forth used a huge amount of Tibor textiles, because they were very luxurious.” The archive is filled with press cuttings and adverts shouting out that Tibor used Zebra on TSS Olympia and “deep textures” for Britannia. When Cunard re-upholstered the suites on the _Queen Mary _it was his Shaftsbury fabric it chose because it went well with contemporary and traditional furnishings.
Tibor’s interest went beyond textiles and “he did special things like the children’s cabins for some of the boats”. It’s a legacy Reich is keen to continue. “We are working on bespoke deep textured weaves for prestigious new superyachts with some of Paris’s most exclusive modernist interior designers to create dramatic interiors.” With all the designs in the archive, the brand is well set up for bespoke work, which makes up half of its orders. Among new commissions are fabrics for the forthcoming Soho House in Shepherd’s Bush.
Some of Tibor’s fabrics, such as the classic Royal Boucle or the Princess (made for Princess Elizabeth), are being matched exactly to Tibor’s original designs whereas others are being adapted for a more modern audience.
Alongside the core collection, the brand is also working on turning some of Tibor’s popular designs into outdoor fabrics. With representation in Paris and having recently launched in New York at Holland & Sherry, and in LA at Thomas Lavin, Reich is keen for Tibor’s individual designs to conquer the world once more. Armed with his business acumen and his grandfather’s unique designs, Reich will surely succeed in his mission to get these beautiful fabrics aboard the world’s smartest ships once again.

My phoenix2, 90m - lürssen - charter.
Jan 2020 – Sep 2020 (9months)
Phoenix2 is an extremely busy charter yacht accompanied by annual repeat charters. I was hired through a personal recommendation and joined the vessel during the Caribbean charter season in Antigua. In March 2020 we completed an Atlantic crossing for its scheduled annual dry haul shipyard maintenance period based at Lürssen. Lemwerder, Germany. The position also required me to oversee the shipyard interior yard maintenance and therefore worked side-by-side with the HOD’s, Lürssen shipyard representatives & contractors in achieving a successful yard period. It was then that the Covid pandemic arose and I was required to manage all health & safety logistics in terms of crew travel, crew accommodation, crew quarantine & isolation procedures. I successfully repatriated all crew that required travel, through the embassies, travel agents, airlines, port and airport immigrations authorities. I left the vessel due to the fact that the crew moral and structure onboard was not a healthy environment and felt I would be much happier working onboard another vessel.

Project Zoza was one of three “Giga Yachts” being built by Benetti in Livorno, Italy. From the outset of the project the owner enlisted the services of the Burgess New Construction Team. I joined the vessel through a personal recommendation and hired through Burgess due to my previous New Build back round with additional Interior Manager experience onboard vessels 100+. I assisted in creating financial policies, bookkeeping, accountancy, budgeting, costing, cash management, internal controls, payment terms & new build stage payments. I was heavily involved in the interior department until a Chief Stewardess was hired in October 2019 after which I transferred over a fully compressive handover. I still supported the interior, working closely with vessels interior designer, shipyard build contractors and Burgess representatives for major decisions concerning the interior design, set up and operations of the vessel. I resigned and immediately joined MY Phoenix2 prior to all the build crew whom were made redundant due to the unsuccessful delivery of the Yacht in February 2020.

Coordination of a specific project with the aim to streamline the administrative operational instructions for a fleet of yachts. The projects goal was to have a comprehensive guide covering the crewing and financial administration procedures with applicable forms that the client & onboard crew could utilise as a reference for the day to day crewing and administration tasks. Meeting with Fraser & studying the actual procedures in place, suggesting improvements in order to optimise the administrative workload and to allow electronical processing through the web-based safety management system.

My resume was shortlisted by the Crew Network and approved directly by the Captain. I was hired due to my previous Refit experience onboard MY Radiant and a Diploma in Super Yacht Project Management. I worked as the sole Build Purser seamlessly alongside the Management Company, Fraser Worldwide S.A.M in drafting & implementing the crew, financial & general yachts administration SOP’s. Fraser yachts wanted to hire a junior Purser that I could conduct hands-on training with and whom I would eventually rotate with once the vessel was delivered and became operational, this was successfully achieved. I was actively involved in the ships inbuild and operational customs, vessel export and duty tax procedures, pre-delivery operational budgets & collating monthly fund & forecasts, payroll preparation, final payment & audit reports. During owners trips I acted as the liaison with the PA to Her Highness and assisted with HH concierge services & security personal (alongside the Head of Security) for over 50 representatives. I resigned as I wanted to pursue my own Business Consulting & Legal Services Company ashore.
PURSER/INTERIOR MANAGER

Mar 2016 – Oct 2016 (8months)
Titania is an extremely busy charter yacht with an excellent reputation for well- run charters with an interior of 7. The vessel is managed by the Owning Company, to whom I worked with on all projects and yacht operations seamlessly. The role of Purser was also a joint position whereby I had to be actively hands-on and involved in the interior department supported by a strong 2nd Stewardess. I joined the vessel one day before the first charter of the season without a handover and successfully completed six charters and two owners’ trips side by side thereafter. Rotation was previously discussed and was then turned down by the Owning Company, however, I committed to stay onboard until all pre-preparations and daily operations of the shipyard period scheduled for the end of the charter season were completed including a full week’s extensive handover to the next Purser/Interior Manager.
110M - LÜRSSEN - PRIVATE
Oct 2015 (2years/5months)
I was initially hired in the position of Interior Manager during the extensive Refit at the Lürssen Shipyard in Wilhelmshaven, Germany. During the refit project, the previous crew onboard were let go due to the expected refit period and a full new crew was hired towards the end of the shipyard. I was involved in most of all the crew placements and worked closely with the Captain conducting personal interviews. Once the vessel was operational a sole Purser position became available which the Captain had kindly offered to me and I had accepted. The vessel had not had a Purser office prior to the refit and therefore I created a completely new structure and implemented the new administration and financial & operating procedures in accordance with the management company and vessels charted accountants. The vessel was private and the Owner used the vessel extensively with his family and guests up to 165 consecutive days. I resigned as I wanted to take time to study German and complete my Super Yacht Management Diploma with Portsmouth University.
