About the business.
Did you know that the water in the Virgin Islands is sparkling turquoise? The sky is crispy cobalt? The occasional cloud is fleecy white? The sun is happy yellow? The beaches are sugary ivory and the crew are deliciously tan? The only real way to capture the color and romance of the Virgin Islands is to see for yourself! However, we've decided to give you a sneak preview, so please read on... The Virgin Islands lie in the West Indies about 40 miles east of Puerto Rico. The typical Virgin Island cruising area extends from St. Thomas to the west to Virgin Gorda to the east, a distance of approximately 45 miles. The Atlantic Ocean meets our island chain on the north side, and the Caribbean Sea borders us on the south side. The larger islands within this area are: St. Thomas, St. John, Tortola, Jost Van Dyke, Norman Island, Cooper Island, Peter Island, and Virgin Gorda. There are many smaller and lesser known islands and cays that are also interesting to explore. Just outside of this area are St. Croix to the south, Culebra to the west and Anegada to the north. Except for Anegada, the islands were born from volcanic activity, which means they are mountainous and picturesque. The beaches are white and sandy, and the coral reefs are active with abundant marine life. …

We did our fifth charter with CYOA in July 2015. Our previous four charters were on their Hunter e36 Island Angel and Jeanneau 44i Mei Nu. We love those two boats for different reasons. Island Angel is super simple and perfect for a couple or a family. Mei Nu is great for couples with generator/ac; she really is a beautiful and striking boat with her teal hull. Service has been great with well maintained boats. The staff and reservations team is knowledgable and responsive. We love sleep aboard the night before we head out and having the restaurants in French Town right there. Great, right? What's even better is avoiding the high cost of flying to the BVIs or the pain of trying to negotiate the Tortola ferry; its a ten minute taxi ride from the St. Thomas airport. Our favorite part is being able to spend days in the pristine bays of the St. John national park. You don't get that with a BVI charter. When we're finished with St. John, it takes 30 minutes to check in at Tortola or Jost Van Dyke customs for the BVI portion of the cruise. Our fifth charter in July 2015 was a step up for us to Glad In It, a Helia 44 catamaran. We had ten people for this trip, the full extended family. We were passing familiar with catamarans, but no experience on our own. We spent a day with Capt. Kyle working through the maneuvers before we headed out on our cruise. Kyle is awesome, he had my lady on the helm doing mooring/docking/anchoring and gave her a lot of confidence. I did those maneuvers too and felt quite comfortable when we dropped Kyle at the dock. He did a great job, because we had no problems docking at four stops and the anxiety level was low. Our family had a great week on Glad In It and ten people worked nicely on this beautiful catamaran. Its a real luxury to have a two drawer refrigerator, separate drinks refrigerator, ice maker and freezer. We ate all of our breakfasts and all but one dinner on the boat and we were able to fit food for ten people without any spoilage. Their provisioning service worked nicely for us. There were four distinct common areas that let everyone spread out and ten people never felt crowded. The cabins were enormous and had more storage than we needed. Two of the kids were sleeping in the single berths forward of the cabins and they loved having their own rooms. A month later and everyone wants to do it again. As captain, I had an easy check in and check out. No damage to the boat, no maintenance problems, no drama. We'll be back.
Just wrapped up 8 days in the USVI. I've chartered from three other companies in various locations and I must say that I was impressed with CYOA. The booking agent Sarah was fantastic. Incredibly responsive. Booking system worked well. Online briefings were great. Loved that I could look back and review the material at any time. Office staff was helpful. Kyle ensured we had everything we needed and Rupert went out of his way to give an outstanding chart briefing. I would rent from CYOA again without hesitation.
Second time we received a boat with many things broken on it only for them to say after we rented the boat they were retiring it! Very rude staff! Never again!
Great Charter outfit on St. Thomas Island in the US Virgin Islands. No passport needed and big jet accessible, I nevertheless recommend you a) bring a passport and b) fly to Puerto Rico and hop to St. Thomas on a Cape Air Cessna. CYOA has nice people and an interesting variety of boats. They manage owner's yachts and do not require them (like some big names in the business) to be uniform. So, you might select a large Fontaine-Pajot catamaran, or a sleek Jeanneau with teak decks and a blue hull, or a luxurious Hunter with upgraded electronics. There is real variety here. Now, if only I had the time and money to sail them all... :) Iguanas hang out on the docks near the marina restaurant. They look really cute and are happy to pose for pictures. Just don't feed them people food!
I'll admit, I don't typically review anything on Yelp despite using the search feature. However, when I was searching some charter companies in other parts of the world for our next trip, I was appalled to find CYOA had such a low score. We had an amazing trip with CYOA. They were very accommodating, helpful, and informative. We had a 8 day trip aboard Sarah Sue, a Fountaine Pajot Lavezzi, and absolutely loved the entire trip. Whether we were sailing hard to wind up to Virgin Gorda, motoring the dinghy from Great Harbour to White Harbour on Jost, or hanging out in an anchorage and jumping aboard a rendezvous dive boat on Cooper Island, Sarah Sue performed amazingly. We had a captain the first day of the trip as it was our first time ever chartering (although I had owned and sailed boats across deep water passages before, it had never been a large catamaran or twin screw drive vessel). Captain Kyle was wonderful. He showed us everything that the cat could do, he gave us wonderful tips, tricks, and recommendations for the local area. He also handled everything wonderfully when we had a small item break on the first day. Something broke on the first day and I'm giving 5 stars??? Yes, I am, because things break while sailing, and I reserved an older boat because it was cheaper, but I realized the risk. And although it was a small issue, the staff repaired it quickly and perfectly while we grabbed a bite to eat at the Pie Whole (also recommended). After our charter they let us look at some of the other vessels so I could get ideas for future chartering adventures, and they were very accommodating with helping us disembark, inspecting, cleaning everything up, and getting us to the airport on time. CYOA is a great outfit and I plan to charter from them again if I come back to the USVI. I only hope they get some 12 person boats because we talk so positively about our trip that I now have 20+ people waiting to come on my next charter adventure.
I read some negative reviews regarding CYOA on several web sites AFTER we had booked our boat. It appeared that most of them where from one or two disgruntled customers with a serious vendetta against CYOA. Still, it was troublesome. Our group was delighted to find the experience with CYOA seamless, the dock staff especially helpful, cordial and truly eager to please. Our boat, the Mie NU, was very clean and ready to go upon our arrival. Overall opinion is that this is an excellent small company to deal with that goes above and beyond to take care of its customers.
2nd charter with COYA. The staff is outstanding. Upon arrival, I was disappointed that learn that the water maker on the boat was broken. The boat had just returned from the previous charter less than 24 hours earlier. The staff had no time or parts to repair the water maker. I understand, it's a boat and things break. That's when the great customer service kicked in. They obtained the part to fix the water maker from another boat, and we have water. Captain Kyle gave us an outstanding briefing on the boat, answered all of our questions, gave us several tips of what to do and not do, where to go and not go. Our charter started off on the right foot.
Just plain RUDE! Spend your money somewhere else. Yacht chartering is the hospitality business, yet those folks don't seem to get it.

We rented Apres Ski for Thanksgiving week and had a wonderful experience and time! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The boat had a few issues, but nothing that we couldn’t deal with. The ice maker and water maker was amazing and now don’t want a boat without them.
We just finished a bareboat charter with Waypoints and they continue to be the best! Their staff and boats are amazing! I highly recommend them!
Top to bottom this was a great company to deal with for our bareboat charter. Everyone was helpful and great to work with, quality boats kept in great shape. I highly recommend waypoints and look forward to chartering with them again.
Thank you for a wonderful week of sailing. The USVI base crew was so helpful...not only with the yacht (which was in 5 star condition), but also with provisioning, amenities, and local sailing knowledge. Can't wait to go back!
We had the best vacation chartering out of CYOA. Starting with the quick 10 min. ride from the airport to the marina. They have an extremely attentive team that takes care of all the details. We were set up with the perfect Captain, Tabatha, to get us comfortable with boat. Our boat was spotless and all the others look to be extremely well taken care of. The Lucia 40 was a great size and easy to handle boat for our family. We can't wait to plan our next trip! Thank you.

CYOA Yacht Charters & Atlantic Cruising Yachts Join Forces
“CYOA has built an impeccable reputation serving yacht owners and charter customers in the Virgin Islands charter market,” said Christian Bent. “We are excited to partner with a team that we consider to be the best in the business, to provide the highest standard of charter management and maintenance services in the Caribbean to our clients. CYOA will continue to raise the bar for the charter industry.”
Bent added that the new partnership will begin with a significant investment into expanding and improving the operations and facilities of CYOA’s current home charter base in Frenchtown, St. Thomas. Easy access and direct flights from many U.S. cities, a central location for chartering throughout the U.S., British and Spanish Virgin Islands, and the modern conveniences and infrastructure of a U.S. territory make St. Thomas the ideal spot to base charter operations.
CYOA has offered bareboat and skippered yacht charters for over three decades, operating out of the Frenchtown Harbor Marina and serving the British Virgin Islands, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Spanish Virgin Islands. Owner John Jacob and his crew of experienced sailors and maintenance professionals have earned a reputation for excellence.

YOUR TIME IS VALUABLE, DON'T WASTE A MINUTE OF IT!
BEAUTIFUL NEW BOATS, IMPECCABLE MAINTENANCE, AND FRIENDLY, KNOWLEDGEABLE STAFF
Virgin Islands Yacht Charters directly manages the charter fleet. We are not a broker. We do work with many reputable and trustworthy charter brokers who regularly book our boats and are familiar with our procedures and knowledgeable of the local cruising grounds. At the same time, there are many brokers out there who know absolutely nothing about our fleet OR even the Virgin Islands themselves. Please be aware.
Catamarans are wonderfully spacious and provide ample area for moving around. Whether it is in the cockpit or salon which spans over both hulls allowing for a larger area inside, the foredeck with the trampoline for sun-tanning, or the great lounging area on the top deck you will enjoy the variety of ways to spend your day on the water. Cats are much more stable than their counterparts which can be much better for new or inexperienced sailors who haven't quite found their sea legs yet or those who are prone to seasickness. Two engines allow for greater maneuverability when in a marina or picking up mooring balls and thus, have gained popularity in recent years. And, you will love the panoramic views!

VIYC was one of the best charter companies we've used. They keep their word and honor their promises. They promptly fix stuff and immediately talk us through solvable problems. They know the boat, the waters, and sailing area, the culture.
Scuby's operations briefing was one of the best I've attended in my years of chartering.

I had the pleasure of chartering a yacht from Virgin Islands Yacht Charters out of Compass Point, St Thomas. I have chartered numerous yachts over the years; as well as operated by own charter sailing yacht for five years. Kristi and Jim, the owners, do an outstanding job of assuring the yacht is ready to go and in top shipshape. Any follow up or support if needed is prompt and efficient. I highly recommend Virgin Islands Yacht Charters.

Jim & Kristi,
Thanks so much for completing our experience. Our past charter experiences in the BVI were a mixed bag of paradise, apathetic service, and mechanically challenged yachts. God made the islands beautiful, you two made sailing them a pleasure by providing friendly service and an excellent line of yachts. This experience felt less like a charter and more like borrowing a great boat from old friends.
We’ll be back… ~Rev. Seth Sundstrom

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital
There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.
How to find the right boat?
There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.
Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.
This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.
Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such option offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).
If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.
Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.
How to buy tickets?
Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.
“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!” wrote (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.
Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.
Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.
Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.
Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as this offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.
This website (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other website sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.
Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.
“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.
There are two main boarding piers in the city center: Hotel Ukraine and Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.
Where to sit onboard?
Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.
The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.
Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.
There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
