This is a great place - a slightly hidden away jewel at the end of a beautiful bay. Vicky is so welcoming, friendly and helpful with advice. Phone ahead and she will keep you a space on the wall - phone 5 minutes before you... arrive and she will guide you in and take your lines. Then go into the club and Heather will look after you in the bar and restaurant with a lovely varied menu and great conversation. Sadly we missed Sunday lunch but will visit again next year to partake. Water is available on the wall. There are showers and laundry equipment in the club, and next door is a general dealer and a pharmacy (oddly also selling kinky boots), so everything a sailor needs! More

The best place ever, a warm welcome, drinks and home made food. I cannot recommend this place highly enough, it offers something that reviews can not capture in words. Anytime we’re nearby we will visit again. And open all year! Thank you!

Dined at Vliho Yacht Club many times while sailing in the Ionian Sea. Food is down to earth, it is always very busy. There are many locals who could choose to drive to Nidri for meals, but continue to visit the Yacht Club, they should... know why. More

Undoubtedly friendly service and an extensive menu on offer. Food was okay and welcome if you wanted general European rather than greek food. Prices are very fair. The boating service is exceptional, however, I have been here on at least half a dozen occasions and... almost without fail, I get the feeling that it is a regulars bar haunt. Certainly on most occasions I have been present, by 7pm someone has more than drank their fill, and as a solo traveller that is a bit off putting. Of course this is not managements problem, as excess alcohol does seem to figure in a lot of boaters way of life. The answer is to sit at a table and just watch life unfold! More

I’ve just arrived in Vliho for a while, I had been recommended to try the Yacht Club. Fabulous, delicious food, cold drinks, lovely atmosphere and amazing friendly staff. I can’t say enough positive things about VYC. It’s our boat’s home, it’s a welcome bar and restaurant, Vicky and Ruairi are so friendly and so helpful. The drinks are great and the food is good too. It’s also a great place to chill in... the day. More

Nice people , nice atmosphere for a beer or a drink in the bar and afterwards a nice meal. The place is also a yacht club where they know everything about chartering/ repairs or simply just anything you need to know when sailing in this... area of Greece! More

We stopped here for dinner one evening and was not disappointed. The staff were friendly and soon showed us to our table. The menu was small, but there was a reasonable choice, there was 5 of us and we all found something fairly quickly, we... were not disappointed when the food arrived, well presented, tasteful and plenty. We then decided to have desert, a small choice, but again covered all our tastes, again was not unhappy with our choices, the portions were huge and again very tasteful. Perhaps not the cheapest restaurant in the area, but as they say you get what you pay for and we were not disappointed. Would we go again - YES (and soon) 5 of us with drinks, main and desert was €95 and we did not leave hungry. More

This was the start and end point of a 2 week sailing adventure around the Ionian Sea on the wonderful yacht Gaia. The Yacht Club is amazing - helpful, friendly and lovely staff. Food is great with a great range on the menu. Definitely worth... a visit. More

Had the pleasure of organising 19 fellow sailors for Sunday roast which was delicious....even cauliflower cheese with it (my favourite) ...pudding also fantastic! Great prices and very friendly staff.

You won’t be disappointed! Amazingly friendly staff, food to satisfy and clean, hot showers. Thanks guys for an extremely enjoyable stay 😁

A great experience. I had blue marlin with coconut sauce, linda had tuna salad with semi cooked fish. Both were excellent. Service was good.

Had heard great things about this place. But very disappointing visit. It's clearly well frequented by local ex pats and regular yacht visitors who like the staff because they recognise them and pass the time of day. As newcomer yachties we didn't think it lived... up to it's "yacht club" name. Food was mediocre. Staff unkempt and walking around with bare feet including in the kitchen and behind the bar. One male member if staff walked in and out frequently with bare chest, no shoes and shorts just about covering his bottom! The wcs weren't clean and the shower floors were flooded. There was an event being planned so lots of attention on moving tables around which would have been better spent making new visitors feel welcome. Won't visit again. More

We chartered Bunny Girl through Vliho Yacht Club for a week sailing the Ionian and the whole experience was brilliant. Debbie organised us to perfection, the staff at the club were helpful and friendly. The yacht was clean and well maintained. But by far the... stand out feature was the skipper provided by the club. Josh was simply fantastic. He sailed with us all week and managed to find the perfect balance between letting us enjoy our family holiday and joining in. By the end of the week it was easy to forget he wasn’t actually one of us! He even managed to tempt a pod of dolphins into surfing our bow wave on our last day. A fabulous family holiday the six of us on Bunny Girl will never forget. More

Our first trip to Vliho yacht club. This is an absolute haven. Wonderful cocktails and delicious English food. A really great team looking after our shared boat. Servicing and leaving linen to wash. Nothing is too much trouble.The restaurant staff, the engineers, everyone is so... nice here really lovely helpful staff. I would highly recommend this yacht club for looking after your boat. Here at Vliho Yacht Club we are looking for a practical & energetic person to join our expanding team. This position is full time and year round, offering many opportunities. Ideally you are resourceful, motivated and have good communication skills.

Applicants need to hold an EU passport or have a Greek resident permit. English speaking but other languages are of course a benefit.

You will be shore-based and we are located in the village of Vliho, 2km south of Nidri on the East coast of Lefkada, Greece. We look after approximately 100 boats and work with owners from all over Europe.

A Year of Change

New addition to our charter fleet

Introducing ARTEMIS for 2022… we are very excited to have this beautiful Bavaria C45 – Holiday edition built in 2019 join our fleet.

As you step on board via the huge bathing platform and into the very spacious cockpit, you can appreciate that this boat is very well set up for the 10 people it is licenced for. A very light and airy interior combined with the 4 cabins, 3 bathrooms & a full size galley allows comfort for all on board.

Walking around the decks is easy on this clear, clean design.  The hatches are recessed into the deck and without any steps or edges you find plenty of areas to sunbath on the foredeck or under the boom.

You can appreciate her fully battened mainsail is combined with a self tacking foresail with all lines hidden running back to the dual helm stations.   ARTEMIS is a truly impressive cruising yacht to enjoy with all the technical equipment you would expect for a boat of this caliber.

New Charter Boat…

We are happily introducing a 2013 Bavaria Cruiser 45ft to our charter fleet for Season 2022.

She is called BUNTY and we are very much looking forward to giving you the chance to go sailing on this lovely boat with friends or family.

Interesting facts to know about her… She has a teak deck, bow thruster & twin rudders, giving you added control when parking; a wind generator, 1 electric toilet / 2 manual toilets and fans in all the cabins for extra comfort.  Combining full navigation equipment, autopilot and furling main sail it all helps the sailing experience.

Debbie is being kept busy with Bookings for next summer and is happy to answer any questions you may have on Bunty or any of our boats.

A New Pontoon

After many years of bureaucracy and paperwork, we are very proud to announce that our new pontoon has been approved and now sit’s proudly in front of our Yacht Club.

Last week, the fantastic team of divers from Lefkas Diving Centre in Nikiana, and Ruairi of course, descended into the depths of Vliho Bay to secure it in place. In total we used 200 meters of chain and 400 meters of rope which were patiently spliced together by Vicky & Joe. There are now lazy line berths just a 30 second walk from the bar, perfect for that summer evening!

Making this stretch of quayside more accessible and user-friendly has been at the top of our list for years. Not only will we have an abundance of more space, the yachts on the pontoon will be in the direction of the most common winds, making mooring & securing in our strong summer blows much easier!

Finally, Ruairi has up-cycled this lovely holder for our big blue hose pipe…but can you guess what it was originally???

Welcome to our new Website!

Welcome to our new website! We are very excited to finally go live as we have been working on this since Christmas. Let us know what you think and please do send over any photos or stories you have of Vliho Yacht Club as we would love to feature them on our new blog!

We are still quite locked down here – bars and restaurants are still closed and we still have a 9pm curfew – however the weather has vastly improved, moods are starting to lift, boats are beginning to launch AND we are allowed to travel again to exercise, which means lots of trips to the beach! Yes, the sea is still freezing to swim in but, in the words of every British parent ever, “it’s fine once you’re in!”

Behind closed doors we are working hard to make sure that as soon as we can open we will with a bang! From the mundane jobs like recovering bar stools, painting bookshelves and cleaning out the fridges to planning exciting events (in line with social distancing) including themed dinner nights, new tasty specials and, back by popular demand, THE WALKING QUIZ! 

Keep an eye on our website and social media pages for special offers, updates and (hopefully soon) information on when we can  finally reopen. We really cannot wait to see you all!

Recommendations when leaving your vessel.

If leaving your boat, please ensure adequate chain is out. More is better.

All seacocks, with exception to the engine inlet, should be closed.

Please ensure that the fuel to the engine is left on.

We would recommend that your bimini is left folded back and secured.

Please ensure that your Genoa has been tightly furled with none of the sail extruding.

Furling mainsails should be correctly furled. With non furling mainsails please ensure that stack packs or sail covers are secure. We would recommend that the main halyard is removed from the sail.

Removable items (e.g. Outboards) should be stowed in a safe lockable place.

Dinghy – Please ensure that your dinghy is not left in the water. It should be suitably stowed either on deck or packed away. Particular attention should be paid to floorboards and oars and how the dinghy is secured.

Leaving your fridge slightly open is recommended. From experience we recommend that canned drinks are not left in fridges over prolonged periods.

Remember to turn your gas off.

Remember to take your rubbish out.

If leaving your boat at anchor, please leave your shorelines to be used, in an obvious location in the cockpit lockers, in the event that the boat needs to be brought to the quayside.

Where to anchor:

Please do not anchor too close into the shore. It makes it difficult for vessels leaving and departing from the town quay. Remember to empty your holding tank before entering the bay. It should be noted that under Greek Law an anchor light is required.

Terms and Conditions.

Hereafter Ruairi Bradley operating under Vliho Yacht Club will be referred to as “the company.”

Gardiennage – Conditions of the vessel.

The vessel must be in good working order and left in a seaworthy condition.

Written instructions should be left onboard with relevance to the engine starting and stopping procedure, location of battery switches, windlass operation and windlass trip switch.

Any faults or special requirements with the boat should be recorded with the office in writing.

The owner shall take all necessary precautions against the outbreak of fire on his vessel. The Company reserves the right to move any vessel, gear, equipment or other goods at any time for reasons of safety and security or good management of our business and premises.

Office requirements.

The vessel must be insured and have all necessary papers to be legal in Greek waters. A copy of the boat papers should be filed with the office.

The owner must notify the office of their return date and time prior to their arrival.

Access keys to the vessel must be left with the office.

If any work is to be carried out whilst you are away. A work list must be submitted to the office either in person or via email.

The company is acting as a guardian of your vessel and the company will do their utmost to prevent any harm or damage occurring to your vessel, as long as it does not put human life in danger.

In the event of damage or theft to the vessel. It is the responsibility of the owner / insurer of the vessel.

Payments to the Company.

Long Term Contracts – Invoices and statements will be issued on a monthly basis.

Short Term Contracts – Invoices will be issued at the end of the contract. In the absence of express agreement to the contrary, our price for work shall be based on labour and materials expended and services provided. A 50% deposit is required prior to the commencement of work. Unless otherwise agreed between us, payment for all works, goods and services shall be due immediately on the invoice date. Payment shall be deemed to have been made when we receive cleared funds. In regards to outstanding invoices, the company reserves a general right (“a general lien”) to detain and hold onto the owner’s vessel or other property pending payment by the Owner of any sums due to the Company.

If the Company is exercising its’ right of detention, it shall be entitled to charge the owner at the company’s standard rate for the duration of the detention and until the vessel or property has been removed from the company.

In respect to any queries arising from the invoice, the office must be notified in writing, in order that the issue can be investigated.

In the event of a query on an invoice, payment is expected for all sections of the invoice not in question.

Prices and estimates.

We will exercise skill and judgment when we give an estimate or indication of price. However, such estimates are always subject to the accuracy of information provided by the customers or by the Company and are usually based only on a superficial examination and will not include the cost of any emergent work which may be necessary to the vessel, gear or equipment nor the cost of any extensions to the work comprised in the estimate. We will inform customers promptly of any proposed increase in estimates prices and the reasons for it and will only proceed with the work or supply with the approval of the customer. The customer shall remain responsible for the cost of labour and materials already supplied or remaining to be supplied which are not affected by the proposed increase in price.

Any time given for completion of our work is given in good faith but is not guaranteed. We shall not be responsible for any delay in completion of the work or for the consequences of any such delay unless it arises from our wilful acts or omissions or from our negligence.

While we or our subcontractors are working on the owner’s vessel or equipment the owner shall not have access to it except by prior arrangement. We will agree reasonable access when it is safe to do so and when it will not interrupt or interfere with our work schedule.

We shall not be liable for any loss or damage caused by events or circumstances beyond our reasonable control (such as severe weather conditions, the actions of third parties not employed by us or any defect in a customer’s or third party’s property): this extends to loss or damage to vessel, gear, equipment or other property left with us for work or storage, and harm to person entering our premises or using any of our facilities or equipment. We shall take reasonable and proportionate steps having regards to the nature and scale of our business to maintain security at our premises, and to maintain our facilities and equipment in reasonable working order: but in the absence of any negligence or other breach of duty by us vessels and other property are left with us at the customers own risk and customers should ensure that their own personal property insurance adequately covers such risks. Customers may themselves be liable for any loss or damage caused by them, their crew or their vessels and whilst their vessel or other property is on our premises or is being worked on by us they shall be obliged to maintain adequate insurance, including third party liability.

Sub Contracting

We may subcontract all or part of the work entrusted to us by the customer, on terms that any such subcontractor shall have the protection and benefit of all rights and conditions, and of all limitations and exclusions of liability, which exist for us under these Terms of Business. Where we exercise this right we shall remain responsible to the customer for the performance of our subcontractor.

Quality Standards

We will complete our works to the agreed specification and, in absence of any other contractual term as to quality, to a satisfactory quality. Any defects should be promptly notified to us in writing. On notification by the customer of such defects, we will investigate the cause and if we are responsible under the company will remedy them or, at our opinion, employ other contractors to do so. Any remedial work which is put in hand by the customer directly without first notifying us and allowing us a reasonable opportunity to inspect and agree such work and its costs will invalidate this guarantee in respect of those defects.

There are several coaches per day to/from Athens, and the journey takes approx 5 hours. In Athens you take the bus from Kiffisus Bus Station. A taxi between Kiffisus Bus Station and Athens airport costs about 50 Euros and takes 40 minutes (depending on traffic).

There is a public bus service between the airport and Kiffisus bus station. The route number is 93. It departs hourly from outside arrivals at the airport. The journey takes about 1 hour and costs about 6 Euros. The bus fare from Athens to Lefkas bus station is about 35 Euros and takes 5 hours (buying an open return ticket is cheaper than two singles)

There are several ferries from Bari, Venice or Ancona, Italy crossing to Igoumenitsa. It is then a 2hr drive to Vliho Yacht Club. Search times and availability at  www.hellasferries.gr

If visiting us from outside Europe or in the winter months, travelling through Athens gives you access to numerous scheduled flights from all major airlines. The new airport is easily navigated. From there you can take a bus to us in Lefkada, or hire a car and add a few days exploring Greece to your holiday.

With Easy Jet and Ryanair now flying from Corfu this airport has become a better option for many of our clients as it serves the regional airports in England including Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham, Birmingham and Newcastle. They also have flights to other European countries. Corfu airport is a 5 min taxi ride to the port, and a ferry across to Igoumenitsa for 1.5hrs, then a taxi (approx 150 euros) or bus to Lefkada. Some people also choose to do a one way car hire from Igoumenista to Vliho.

Flights on Tuesday, Thursdays and Saturdays from Venice, Naples and Rome. Fly with Volotea and Vueling Airlines.

Direct flights available on Saturday and flights via Vienna on Tuesday with Air Berlin of Condor. Flying from Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hanover, Munich, Nuremberg, Stuttgart.

Flights from the UK are generally on a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday. Easyjet, British Airways, Thomas Cook, First Choice and TUI (formally Thomson) all offer flight only options. Flight time is approx 3hrs 20mins. Mainly available from London Heathrow, Gatwick, Stanstead, Manchester, Bristol & Birmingham.

The closest airport to our base is located in Preveza approximately 45minutes away. This airport also known as Aktion (PVK airport code) is open from April to October and receives charter flights from around Europe. On arrival at Preveza we can organize a taxi to be waiting for you, to transfer you to our base. It is approximately 50 euros per person with a maximum of 4 passengers.
