Bigger yachts, 200 jobs coming as Cruisers Yachts expands in Pulaski

marquis yachts pulaski wi

PULASKI - Cruisers Yachts will add production lines at its Pulaski plant when it completes a 56,000-square-foot expansion in early 2024.

The expansion will enable Cruisers' Pulaski workforce to build yachts up to 75 feet long and more of them in a more efficient manner. It will also provide the company more space for a variety of operations. Construction began in January, should wrap up in January 2024, and comes about two years after MarineMax Inc. bought Cruisers Yachts in May 2021.

At about the same time, MarineMax also bought the former Marquis Yachts Pulaski facility, 700 Glenbrook Drive, at a time when Marquis was shutting down operations.

"One of our core values is to look to the long term, and this expansion project is a testament to that belief. We have been looking to expand since we acquired the Pulaski facility in 2021," said Mark Pedersen, Cruisers Yachts president, in a media release. "That plant is designed to build larger yachts, and this expansion provides us with a facility that aligns with our new product development plans for the next five years."

New space will cover everything from stem to stern

Expansion of the Pulaski plant will focus on bolstering production capacity. That means a variety of facilities and operations will add space.

Almost 11,000 square feet with increased ceiling heights will go toward two new production lines capable of handling 75-foot yachts. Once completed, Pedersen said the Pulaski facility will have five production lines capable of building six models at a time.

Upholstery operations will get an extra 4,300-square-feet to increase capabilities.

Metal and maintenance operations will get another 15,120 square feet of space.

The on-site warehouse will add 225,700 square feet of storage capacity and new loading docks. A separate storage building will be added to safely store chemicals.

The site will also upgrade and expand its outdoor storage yard to increase security and storage capacity.

"We’re really excited about it," Pedersen said. "The community has been great working with us. It should help us continue our growth and continue to add more jobs."

Expansion means more jobs coming to Pulaski, Oconto

Cruisers Yachts employs about 150 people in Pulaski and 350 at its Oconto facility. The company expects to hire between 200 and 250 more workers as the new production lines and spaces come online and ramp up.

Pedersen said the company hopes to employ about 400 workers at each plant, 800 total.

He said the company is already hiring for a variety of roles, but when the expansion opens, the company will need electricians, laminators, mechanical staff to install engines, finishing carpenters, upholsterers and woodworkers.

Space will help prepare for new models in development

Cruisers builds two lines of yachts right now, but each offers buyers a variety of options and customizations.

The Cantius line debuted in 2011 and focuses on smart design and maximizing interior space in yachts up to 73 feet long. The GLS line of yachts are 34-50 feet long and focus more on speed, agility, and unique designs.

Pedersen said the company is working on developing next-generation yachts, but that it first needed the production capabilities and space to build them, hence the expansion.

Another big step forward for Pulaski and Cruisers Yachts

Cruisers Yachts is marking 70 years in business this year. The company was founded in 1953 in Oconto, and at one time employed upwards of 750 people.

Oconto native and prominent businessman K.C. Stock , who passed away in late 2022, purchased Cruisers in 1993 at a time when it appeared like the company might shut down operations. Stock didn't want to see that happen and the company became one of the premier manufacturers of 33-60-foot premium yachts. Stock sold the company to MarineMax in 2021 bought the Marquis Yachts facility in Pulaski and turned it into a Cruisers Yachts facility.

"It is another big step forward for the continued growth of Cruisers Yachts and the community," Pedersen said in a media release.

Cruisers Yachts Expands Into Former Carver/Marquis Wisconsin Facility

The state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Pulaski, Wisconsin, where Carver and Marquis yachts were previously built, was recently purchased by KCS International, Inc., the parent company of Cruisers Yachts.

The addition of the 216,000-square-foot purpose-built manufacturing space on 15 acres will significantly expand Cruisers’ brand and production capacity, while opening up the brand to the nearby highly skilled workforce with generational heritage in yacht construction.

“The opportunity to acquire this world class facility will allow us to meet customer demands and expand our very aggressive new product development schedule,” says Mark Pedersen, president of KCS International. “Our global dealership partners have done an excellent job expanding our market share across our full product line-up. We have experienced unprecedented growth over the past 24 months, and this facility will help us meet our customers’ current and future demands.”

The company anticipates hiring around 150 additional crew members to run the new facility, as well as an additional 75 workers at the existing Oconto, Wisconsin, location.

We are extremely impressed with the level of Marquis' yacht building sophistication along with its dedicated workforce throughout its Pulaski, Wisconsin campus. VanDutch has had great success selling its unique and beautiful yachts around the world; we are also impressed with the high quality and success of Marquis yachts, which was one of our main reasons for choosing Marquis to become the exclusive manufacturer for all VanDutch Yachts globally." Mr. Mast further stated, "We look forward to a very long and successful business partnership with Marquis, America's premium quality yacht builder."

Marquis Yachts announces new strategic vision

marquis yachts pulaski wi

As part of the recent sale of its Larson Boat assets to Polaris Industries, the Pulaski, Wisconsin builder of Marquis, Carver and Lexus Yachts has announced a strategic reorganization. Under the guidance of President and CEO, Rob Parmentier, the company will now concentrate exclusively in the luxury yacht segment through its continued expansion of the Carver Yachts brand and relaunch of its Marquis brand with a new line of sport yachts. In addition, the company will continue its partnership with Lexus, the luxury automaker and will introduce its first production Lexus Luxury Yacht in the fall of 2019.

“Based upon years of successfully building European styled boats, and our recent partnership with Lexus Yachts, our company is in an excellent position to capitalize on the growing world-wide market for luxury sport yachts,” Parmentier said.

Parmentier went on to say that since the company is no longer in the small boat business, Marquis Yachts LLC will now be able to concentrate the efforts of all its skilled employees and resources to these three brands which best fit the evolving global marine market.  The expected result is increased market share and profitability, he said.

As a consequence of its strategic realignment, a new Marquis 42 will be introduced at the 2019 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) to be followed by 50- and 60-foot models currently in the planning stage.

In conjunction with Nuvolari-Lenard, more than 20-years ago Marquis Yachts was one of the first boats, if not the first, to use European designs and look from an American boat manufacturer.  Once again, Marquis will introduce a new line of boats taking shape right now to be the first American builder to design, engineer and build an upscale, assertive and stylish “day boat” with striking lines and shape.  As announced in July, these new day boats will relaunch the Marquis brand.

Set to be introduced at FLIBS is the new 65-foot Lexus flybridge.  The Lexus is built in Marquis’ Pulaski facility with distribution to be handled through select Marquis and Carver Yachts dealers.  A coupe version will follow a few months after the launch of the LY650.

A new 46 Carver Command Bridge is on the drawing board scheduled to appear in early 2020.  This new Carver design will set the stage and direction for the Carver models to follow.

“This aggressive expansion of new models and the redefining of existing brands, is now possible because of this important strategic refocus of who we are and what we do,” Parmentier said. “Marquis Yachts LLC will continue to be a significant marine industry player as we go forward.”

One comment.

Marquis Yachts,

While owning one of your beautiful yachts is still a goal on mine, I do have a request for your company to consider when designing future versions. I have lived in the Chicago area all my life and intend to spend the nice weather months here, even if I Winter in Florida. So the ultimate for me would be to enjoy the great lakes during the Summer and take the loop down to South Florida during the Winter. I love your balance between sport and cruiser, the only problem is the “fixed” command bridge height limits the size boat that could make the loop without hitting the few low bridges along the way. Being that you are based in Wisconsin and are fellow Lake Michiganders I am hoping you will take on this challenge. Bottomline, I want to see the largest, most stylish Marquis yacht possible that could navigate the loop.

Keep up the nice work Marquis!!

New Concept Yacht from Marquis and Lexus

marquis yachts pulaski wi

Fans of Marquis Yachts need not only celebrate the prestigious collaboration with Lexus for its recognition of Marquis quality of workmanship, but may also look forward to seeing lessons taken from this build enhance the already impressive yachts that the company produces.  Paul Liss, Marquis' Vice President of Operations and Manufacturing states: “In building the Lexus Sport Yacht concept, we managed and administered a quality program to their exacting standards and expectations: we'll apply what we've learned to all Marquis and Carver Yachts going forward." Liss added, "We worked with extreme tolerance levels to construct this boat: essentially these are aerospace-like tolerances and specifications. I am very proud to be a part of this as is our entire team. This will raise our own quality and construction standards to new levels.”

Marquis Yachts

Marquis Yachts

Marquis embodies perfection in the art of yacht building..

Marquis’ Corporate headquarters and yacht yard are located in the inland seas region of the United States where generations of skilled craftsmen have been building the world’s finest yachts and ships since the early 1800′s.  This heritage runs through the veins of all who work at Marquis, bringing an experience and passion to our craft unmet anywhere else in the world.

Each Marquis is hand built by a team of vastly experienced  yacht builders and technicians who are as passionate about building the finest yachts… as you are in owning one.

The prestige of the Marquis brand has been earned by building substantial vessels regarded by experienced yachtsmen throughout the world as superior in styling, design and construction. A Marquis reflects not only your sense of style but also your ability to own the best built yacht of its kind.

Marquis quality is strikingly different.

It is typical for other yacht builders to outsource the design and installation of electrical and plumbing systems as well as cabinetry construction, upholstery fabrication and other critical components. In doing this they are, in essence, assemblers of other company’s products and are limited by their supplier’s capabilities, timeframes and quality standards.

Marquis is unique and superior because we build nearly every subcomponent and critical system ourselves and are immersed in every minute detail in the creation of each vessel.

The results are yachts with the ultimate in distinctive style, unmatched fit and finish and proven operational reliability.

This quality and uncommon attention to detail says a lot about the Marquis brand and the person who owns one.

Cruisers Yachts buys former Carver/Marquis facility

> Subscriber-only 2021-04-27T08:55:00+01:00

US builder says growth over the past 24 months has been “unprecedented”

KCS International Inc, parent company of Cruisers Yachts, has expanded its manufacturing and production capacity with the acquisition of the nearby Pulaski, Wisconsin manufacturing facility that formerly built the Carver and Marquis yacht brands.

The state-of-the art, purpose-built manufacturing facility is located in a community with a highly skilled workforce with generational heritage in yacht construction.

“The opportunity to acquire this world-class facility will allow us to meet customer demands and expand our very aggressive new product development schedule,” says KCS president Mark Pedersen.

“Our global dealership partners have done an excellent job expanding our market share across our full product line-up. With the recent addition of MarineMax as a new dealer in select markets, we needed this facility to increase our production.

“We have experienced unprecedented growth over the past 24 months,” Pedersen adds, ”and this facility will help us meet our customers’ current and future demands.”

Located on approximately 15 acres of land, the former Marquis Yachts facility offers around 216,000sq ft of manufacturing space and includes an enclosed, in-water testing, research and development tank. Marquis notified the state of Wisconsin in March last year that it planned to lay off more than 100 workers at the site beginning in June due to business slowdowns related to Covid-19.

Cruisers Yachts says it anticipates hiring 150 additional crew members to work in Pulaski and another 75 at its current Oconto, Wisconsin corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility to meet growing demand.
