The Sydney Superyacht Marina offers berthing facilities up to 75m alongside and 50m "Med-style" in Rozelle Bay, sheltered from harbour wash. The marina is located within minutes to the CBD and airport and has a range of qualified Trades, Services and ample parking available on site. Good foreshore access, ample shore-power, security and logistical support at the marina to "make life easy". The Superyacht Marina also offers short term berthing at the iconic Campbells Cove jetty, nestled between the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.

Operating guidelines for superyachts on Sydney Harbour

This information is designed to help superyachts prepare for a visit to Sydney Harbour and to assist them operating while in the harbour.

What's a superyacht?

How do you know if your vessel needs to follow 'superyacht' guidelines for operating on Sydney Harbour?

Your vessel is a 'superyacht' if it's both:

• a recreational vessel 30m and over in length (LOA), and
• used for private (non-commercial) operations.

As a superyacht operator travelling on Sydney Harbour you must follow the relevant legislation and Harbour Master Directions (See Port Authority of NSW and information below).

Pilots and certificates

According to Harbour Master Directions (See Port Authority of NSW ) pilotage of vessels is compulsory on Sydney Harbour:

• for vessels 30m and over in length
• except in the cases below.

Pilotage is not compulsory for (unless legally notified otherwise):

• A vessel with a Master who holds a relevant Marine Pilotage Exemption Certificate.
• A vessel with a Master who holds a relevant Certificate of Local Knowledge.
• A vessel less than 30m in length. Note: a vessel less than 30m in length that is engaged in towing or pushing with a combined length of ≥ 30m, is not exempt from pilotage).
• A seaplane.
• A recreational vessel. Note: Foreign vessels and regulated Australian vessels are not considered recreational vessels. See Navigation Act 2012 (Commonwealth legislation).
• A vessel with an order exempting it from pilotage.

A vessel master should request these services if in doubt regarding:

• the procedures on the harbour or
• an ability to safely manoeuvre within the harbour.

Sometimes the Harbour Master may require a pilot to conduct the vessel on its movement into, out of or within the port.

Rules for operating on the harbour

Superyachts are free to enter and move around Sydney Harbour if the operator complies with these rules:

• Superyacht masters must follow the Harbour Master Directions .
• maintain a listening watch on VHF Ch 13
• report to Sydney VTS on VHF Ch 13 at the required times
• follow all directions issued by Sydney VTS.
• Superyacht masters must be aware of, and comply with restrictions and all other requirements for operating on Sydney Harbour.
• International Regulations (COLREGs) and NSW Special Rules of the Road contained within Schedule 4 of the Marine Safety Regulation 2016 .

Special recreational vessels (Superyachts) - oil pollution insurance

Marine pollution legislation requires that ‘ships must be insured against damage by discharge of oil’. As a result, all recreational vessels over 24 metres (i.e. superyachts) will be required to hold oil pollution insurance. This requirement will come into effect on 1 July 2025.

Priority over sail

Masters of superyachts under sail must give way to ferries displaying an orange diamond shape. This grants ferries priority over sailing vessels by day.

Passage of seagoing ships and Naval Vessels

Vessels must not impede the passage of:

• seagoing ships
• vessels under the conduct of a pilot, or
• exempt master or naval vessels inside the shipping channel or fairway.

Hovercraft, high speed ferries and Rivercats

These vessels carry the normal lights for a power-driven vessel under way and also exhibit an all-round flashing yellow light. This light does not provide any priority over sailing vessels.

Cruising and sightseeing traffic flow

All vessels should navigate in a generally anti-clockwise direction around Sydney Harbour.

Personal Watercraft (PWC)

Operating a PWC (as defined in the Marine Safety Regulation 2016 ) on Sydney Harbour is prohibited.

Restricted access areas

Vessels may enter when there's no closure notice on the Pyrmont Bridge electronic notice panel (displayed in the centre of the bridge).

Contact the bridge controller to check on closures on Channel 13.

Property NSW controls Cockle Bay. Vessels may berth at the visitor’s marina on the eastern side of the Bay, for a fee. Using wharves on the western and southern sides is by arrangement with Property NSW only.

Sydney Cove (Circular Quay)

Circular Quay is a ferry and passenger ship terminal. Access for recreational vessels is prohibited without prior written permission from Transport for NSW (Maritime). See Schedule 6, Marine Safety Regulation 2016 .

Campbells Cove

The timber wharf in Campbells Cove can be used as a superyacht berth for vessels up to 60m in length. It's within the Sydney Cove restricted area.

Prior approval to enter is required. Contact Sydney Superyacht Marina or any of the local superyacht agents.

Naval Waters

Naval Waters are indicated on charts for the area. A vessel may enter these waters, although Naval authorities are at liberty to restrict access when necessary. A vessel may not anchor in Naval Waters.

For security reasons, people are prohibited from climbing, attaching themselves or helping another person to attach themselves to a naval vessel.

A moving exclusion zone operates for naval vessels underway in NSW waters. This zone extends 200m from bow and 60m on either side and astern of a naval vessel. A ‘distance off’ of 60m from a naval vessel which is moored, anchored or berthed applies at all times. Yellow buoys delineate prohibited zones around Garden Island and other naval installations. Penalties apply.

Parramatta River

Waters west of Silverwater Bridge are closed to all vessels other than ferries.

Charter Wharf Booking System

The Charter Wharf Booking System is designed to provide commercial operators use of Charter Wharves on Sydney Harbour.

Commonly used docks

Rose bay wharf.

• Floating pontoon next to the ferry wharf (size limit of 20 tonnes / 15 minutes only).

Darling Harbour – Cockle Bay Wharf

• To book a berth, call +61 2 9211 5383 or email [email protected]
• Pyrmont Bridge can open or has a clearance height of 6.05m.

Taronga Zoo Wharf

• Ferry wharf (ferries have right of way).

All other ferry wharves within Sydney Harbour can be used, keeping in mind ferries have right of way.

How to Get There

Getting to the Sydney Superyacht Marina is simple and convenient, with multiple modes of transport available.

By Air: For those travelling from outside Sydney, the most convenient entry point is the Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport , the busiest airport in Australia. It hosts flights from all over the world and is well connected to the city. From the airport, you can easily get a taxi or rent a car to the marina. It’s about a 20-minute drive, depending on traffic.

By Road: The marina is easily accessible by road. If you’re coming from the Sydney CBD, you can follow the Western Distributor and Anzac Bridge to James Craig Road in Rozelle. Then, continue on James Craig Road, where you’ll find the marina. There’s ample parking available on site for visitors.

By Sea: If you’re arriving by water, you’ll need to navigate the well-marked channels of Sydney Harbour. The marina is situated in Rozelle Bay, off the main shipping channel. Ensure you have the correct maritime maps and that you’re familiar with local boating regulations. Rent a Boat in Australia!

By Public Transport: Sydney’s public transport network is extensive, with regular bus services running near the marina. The 433 bus from the city will take you to the marina, just get off at the stop on The Crescent near Bayview Hill Road. From there, it’s a short walk to the marina. Alternatively, the Light Rail’s Jubilee Park stop is a 15-minute walk from the marina.

Meet clemens.

Originally from the Netherlands where Clemens completed a degree in Hotel Management and enjoyed 2 years of seatime with the Royal Dutch Marines around the Caribbean, it comes as no surprise Clemens entered the marine industry when he arrived in Australia in 1999.

Through his role as Marina Manager, and later Regional Manager Sydney Harbour Clemens experienced the different use expectations from boat owners. Utilising his experience in hospitality, Clemens successfully used social events to enhance the interaction with his boating clients and create a  sense of community and loyalty. This client loyalty was a key aspect during the subsequent 2 marina developments.

 In 2016 Clemens joined the team at the Sydney Superyacht Marina to complete the foreshore development that had already commenced and again realign the marine configuration to cater for the increased yacht sizes. The Sydney Superyacht Marina offers 35 berths, of which 18 berth cater for yachts from 30m+ with the largest single berth catering for a 70m yacht. The Sydney Superyacht Marina is located in Rozelle, a quiet bay with deep water access and good foreshore amenities just 10 minutes from Sydney’s CBD, Harbour Bridge and Opera House.  

 Clemens is a Certified Marina Manager since 2007, and contributes to the Marine industry through his involvement as Chair of the Education Committee at the Marina Industries Association (MIA) . Clemens is also a Board Member of the Global Marine Industries (GMI) since 2022.

World-Class Harbour

Sydney Harbour is a “must visit” on the bucket list for many International Yachts with its iconic Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Sydney Superyacht Marina, previously known as Rozelle Bay Superyacht Marina, has recently been acquired by the Sydney Superyacht Marina Pty Ltd. Built for the 2000 Olympic Games, this beautiful marina is the largest purpose built Superyacht Marina in the Southern Hemisphere.

Sydney Superyacht Marina

The marina continues to be Sydney’s premier superyacht marina, with over 200 superyachts enjoying its facilities since 1999. It is equipped with all the facilities one would expect from a world-class marina.

Created specifically to cater for demand generated in the lead up to the Millennium celebrations and Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, the marina now stands as a post Olympic legacy for superyachts visiting Sydney and wishing to moor securely in a facility located in a well protected bay close to the city.

The marina has infrastructure that allows even some of the largest superyachts to connect to abundant shorepower, sewage pump out, modern cable TV and wireless internet.

Marina Facilities

Each of the 24 berths is provided with shore power (380/415V, 3 phase, 50Hz, 32~400 Amps), up to 5 telephone lines, cable television, fresh water, vacuum assisted sewage pumpout and forward ground moorings for stern-to berthing. The marina has Wireless Broadband Internet service available.

Provisioning and Support Services

Sydney boasts an excellent array of local and imported produce and beverages. A number of top quality wholesalers experienced in vessel provisioning are located conveniently near the marina. The staff can assist in making arrangements for provisions or any other support services you may require, such as car rental, laundering, dry cleaning, travel arrangements, postage and courier services.

Vessel Services

Australia is a provider of premium marine products and services. Marina staff can assist in arranging services such as crane, forklift, truck and car rental, as well as equipment servicing, repairs, refits, construction, chandlery and refuelling. Sydney has a number of superyacht refit facilities capable of servicing and hauling out large superyachts.

Campbells Cove Circular Quay

The Sydney Superyacht Marina team also manages the Campbells Cove berthing facility, which is rapidly earning a reputation as one of the most picturesque and iconic superyacht berths in the world, nestled between the iconic Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

The recently opened Campbells Cove facility has already developed an enviable global reputation as a high quality and unsurpassable location in which to berth. Nestled on the western side of Sydney Cove, Circular Quay, and adjacent to Australia’s top hotel, the Park Hyatt Sydney, the berth affords magnificent unbroken views of the main harbour and is about five minutes walk from the centre of Sydney. The hotel considers superyachts berthed there as ‘guests’ within their hotel during their stay and as such, provides them access to all the 5 Star services and facilities that this premier hotel has to offer.

Ideally suited for large sailing superyachts that have a rig greater than 50 metres above the waterline and are thus too tall to fit under the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Campbells Cove is the front row seat for Sydney’s famous New Year’s Eve Fireworks display.

Sydney becomes the centre stage for superyachts during its New Year’s Eve celebrations, and there a few sights more iconic than a superyacht sailing in front of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. While Sydney is popular for day charters, there is so much to experience on longer charters throughout the surrounding cruising grounds. Superyachts basing themselves in Sydney benefit from two world-class facilities in the centre of the city.

First built to accommodate yachts for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games,  Sydney Superyacht Marina  offers large berthing facilities on the Harbour’s Rozelle Bay. Sydney Superyacht Marina has become distinguished for its exceptional standard of service for superyachts, from a personable concierge service through to fuel bunkering and on-site maintenance trades.

Speaking to Superyachts.com in  February 2020 , shortly after the passing of ground-breaking  new charter legislation  in Australia, Marina Manager Clemens Overdijk explained his direct approach to ensuring that Captains have everything they need to be comfortable during their stay in Sydney.

Sydney Superyacht Marina is well-equipped for the increase of internationally flagged vessels that is expected over the coming years. There are 20+ superyacht berths accommodating vessels up to 74m in Rozelle Bay, while Sydney Superyacht Marina also has an extra 60m berth in the incredible central location of Campbells Cove, tucked under the Harbour Bridge.

Sydney Superyacht Marina Car Park Barrier Project

The  Sydney Superyacht Marina , located in Rozelle, is the largest dedicated superyacht berthing facility in the Southern Hemisphere.

The $30 million redevelopment includes an additional 250 parking spaces in the new multi-level car park which features a green curtain of plants designed to grow over the north and eastern facades. This design, combined with RHINO-STOP® vehicle impact safety barriers, provides an aesthetically-pleasing concept.
