SURI yacht is a beautiful 63-meter (208 ft) yacht built by Halter Marine in 1978 and refitted in 2007 and again in 2012.

She is an expedition yacht suitable for cold climates and adventurous journeys, known for her wide selection of toys and equipment.

The interior of the SURI yacht was styled by Jeffrey Botwin, and her exterior is the work of Joseph Artese Design.

The SURI yacht was definitely a successful project for him as the yacht is widely popular as a charter vessel and is usually fully booked throughout the season.

She can welcome twelve guests in seven luxurious cabins, which include a spacious master, four VIPs, one double, and one twin cabin.

All cabins are airy and bright, with light furnishings and ample space for luggage and storage. A lot of rooms aboard the yacht feature window seats, which provide comfortable seating and a fantastic place to sit while SURI is underway.

Seventeen crew members find space on board and are available to tend to charter guests while they enjoy themselves aboard SURI. 

The facilities on board the yacht include a spa, gym, yoga room, and on-deck jacuzzi, although there is no pool. There is also a state-of-the-art movie room with an updated entertainment system.

Arguably the most interesting feature is a glass-bottom media room where guests can see the magnificent underwater world without having to leave the comfort of the yacht.

This is especially popular in colder climates when snorkeling or scuba diving might not be possible.

To enhance the experience further, SURI possesses a so-called feeding tube that allows fish food to be transported below the yacht, so there is always something to see underwater, even on quiet days.

Due to her being a former crabbing vessel, the SURI yacht is a sturdy yacht that can handle rough conditions in hostile regions like the waters around Antarctica. 

She is powered by twin Caterpillar engines which allow her to reach top speeds of 13 knots, and she cruises comfortably at 11 knots.

The SURI yacht might not be the fastest superyacht, but she is reliable for long distances, and her strengths lie elsewhere than her speed.

She has an impressive range of 9,900 nautical miles and is the ideal yacht for those seeking unusual destinations that go beyond typical charter trips.

The SURI yacht has a full displacement hull which allows for maximum stability both at anchor and when underway. She has a steel hull and aluminum superstructure adding up to a total volume of 1,352 tons.

Her 241,260-litre fuel tanks and 28,450-litre water reservoirs allow for complete autonomy and long excursions without having to replenish supplies at a harbor.

They were responsible for refitting the former crabbing vessel and converting her into a luxurious superyacht with high-end facilities.

SURI still has some design elements reminiscent of her commercial days, and she sets herself apart from other traditional charter yachts by her unusual shape.

Her superstructure is located towards the bow of the vessel with two large, open decks.

The lower of the two can be used as a spacious helipad that allows even larger aircraft to land comfortably. 

On the aft, a swimming platform can be extended from the vessel, and there is plenty of storage space for water toys and tenders.

The SURI yacht is an all-white yacht with relatively small, square windows, protecting its guests from rough weather conditions and allowing maximum levels of privacy.

She provides spacious deck areas with comfortable seating opportunities accompanied by fantastic views.

The upper deck is one of the most prominent outdoor spaces that can be covered by large awnings if required.

There is an on-deck jacuzzi and an outdoor bar, as well as a generous dining table that can seat even large groups.

While the yacht’s superstructure is located very close to the bow, there is still a small private deck tucked away below the bridge, which is the ideal place to watch the sunset.

Toys and equipment

As a charter yacht SURI carries a great variety of toys and equipment on board and has been described as “the ultimate toy box”, which is just one reason why she charges a premium charter price.

The list is long, but most notably, the yacht has five jet skies, two of which can be used standing up, two seabobs, three stand-up paddleboards, water sky equipment, nine surfboards of varying sizes, a wakeboard, three kayaks, and a small sailboat.

She also has an array of inflatables, including a banana, towable toys, and a large water slide for guests to enjoy. 

It goes without saying that there are high-quality snorkeling equipment, scuba diving equipment, fishing supplies, and towable toys on board the yacht. More unusual features include four rowing boats and a hovpod hovercraft.

She also has a variety of land vehicles, such as four electric bikes and two BMW scooters. During charters, SURI comes with a Squirrel Helicopter that seats four passengers in addition to the pilot and a Searay amphibious seaplane that is able to dock aft of the impressive yacht. 

If all these features aren’t enough to entertain guests, they can utilize one of SURI’s five tenders to go on land excursions or explore shallower waters.

Her largest tender is an 11.28 meter (37 ft) Intrepid Center Console Cuddy with twin Yamaha engines that can reach top speeds of 45 knots.

There is a full bathroom, including a shower on board, and the vessel is ideal for longer fishing excursions.

Originally she was a commercial vessel named FIERCE CONTENDER and used for crabbing.

SURI was launched in 1978 but completely refitted at Yacht Escort Ships boatyard by for an unknown price.

He had her converted into a shadow yacht to accompany and support his then vessel JEMASA.

In 2012 he decided to have her refitted yet again, this time at the Bay Ship & Yacht Company yard in California, and in the process even extended the length by 11 meters (36 ft) to a total of 63 meters (208 ft).

This was quite an unusual refit during which the vessel was cut in half, and an additional length was added in the middle. In 2017 Kayne listed the yacht for sale, although there have been no reports of a change of ownership since then.

SURI is available for charter at a weekly price of US$350,000 and incurs estimated running costs close to US $4.5 million.

The owner of SURI is the billionaire investor Richard Kayne who co-founded Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors. Born in 1945, he graduated from both Stanford and UCLA, he began his successful career working as an analyst. Today, Kayne has an estimated net worth of US $1,3 billion which can largely be attributed to his financial advisor company which is responsible for managing more than US $18 billion in private investments and funds. Kayne has many investments in real estate, new energies and healthcare. In 2015 his company was sold for a reported US$ 2,6 billion raising Kayne’s net worth considerably. 

Together with his wife Suzanne Kayne, the 76-year old billionaire lives in Santa Monica in a beautiful mansion with an adjacent golf course. In addition to his yacht, SURI Kayne also owns a Canadair Challenger private jet. He originally purchased SURI to support his previous yacht JEMASA which has since been sold to her new owner Hadia Abdul Lateef Jameel, for an unknown price, who renamed the vessel HADIA. JEMASA was named after Kayne’s three daughters  Je nny,  Ma ggie and  Sa ree. The name SURI was created by combining  Su zanne and  Ri chard.

Principle among these is a Hobbie Cat sailboat to bring out the explorer in you. Another excellent feature are waterslides letting guests speed from the sun deck to the water in seconds. History of the yacht

SuRi began as a crabber, braving dangerous seas near Alaska’s Aleutian Islands on the popular television show, Deadliest Catch . After undergoing over 5 years of refits and a major extension, SuRi finally became the 208-foot luxury adventure yacht she is today.

By April 2024, SURI will have sailed to the enchanting Azores. In the following months, you will have the opportunity to experience the breathtaking landscapes of Norway, Svalbard, and Iceland while based in the charming city of Bergen.

But the adventure doesn't end there as from November 2024 to April 2025 SURI she embarks on another Caribbean and Bahamas sojourn. Finally, 2025 brings the promise of exploration in Eastern Mexico, Cozumel, Belize, Honduras, Costa Rica, and the San Blas Islands, with the potential for an Amazon cruise. You'll remain spellbound by the allure of these extraordinary destinations, just as you'll be by all that is on offer aboard SURI during your yacht charter.

SURI will provide you with uncompromising luxury accommodation for up to 12 guests. Excitement, adventure and luxurious comfort all rolled into one amazing yacht with an excessively envious inventory of toys. SURi is a magnificent 63 metre expedition yacht built by Halter Marine and designed by Kirilloff & Associates (refit) and Stan Antrim of YES (refit). It was originally launched in 1978 and converted in 2007. The steel hull and superstructure with the added benefit of extended range, made possible through a vast amount of fuel reserve onboard, makes SuRi the perfect choice for venturing into exotic and demanding areas of the globe. She had a major refit in 2012 which included an 11m mid-body extension. Her last major refit was in 20105 / 2016 where the owner's cabin was extended. 

There is plenty to do onboard, in the water, and also on land with a diverse range of toys and features including a Jacuzzi, helicopter, sea plane, speedboat, dune buggy and hovercraft.  Excitement, adventure and luxurious comfort all rolled into one amazing yacht: experience the world like no one else.

2012 Refit Enhancements: Sun Deck: The longer and expanded sun deck will offer more square footage, a larger sunning and “in shade” areas and will continue to have the high level of finish currently present on SuRi. Bridge and Heli Deck: This deck has received the full length of the mid body of 36 feet. All of the added length happen aft of the existing lounge and a spacious fully glass enclosed guest lounge has been added to the already comfortable and elegant main lounge. The new guest lounge can either be closed off in glass, fully climate controlled and become a part of the existing expansive lounge or, by closing the existing lounge aft doors, all of the glass panels can be opened to allow for the breeze to cool guests as they enjoy the luxury of the new lounge amenities. Mezzanine Guest Cabins: Two additional, full beam guest cabins will be installed on the mezzanine level outfitted similar to the existing cabins which are also being expanded and reconfigured. These four guest cabins allow an unobstructed, private view from the yacht. Main Deck: This deck also received the full added length of 36 feet in the hangar allowing for the carriage of even more “toys” and tenders than SuRi currently carries. Hold Deck: In way of where the 36 foot mid body there are two large rooms that offer guest a fully equipped area on the starboard side for exercise, yoga and for additional lounging and meeting area. This space can also be used as a children’s play. On the port side of the new hold guest area is a spacious, relaxing and comfortable media room equipped with the latest television and sound system. Also in this space are the “windows to the sea”. There are two large viewing windows open to the ocean bottom, lit by high intensity lights that will illuminate the ocean and attract sea life to the guests.

SURI currently registered in the Marshall Islands is actively available for charter in several cruising destinations.

The luxury motor yacht SURI was built by Halter Marine and delivered to her owner in 1978, she later underwent a refit in 2023.

The exterior of SURI is designed by Joseph Artese Design.

The 208ft / 63.4m SURI has been constructed with a steel hull and is powered by 2x GM DD 16V149 1800hp eac with a cruising speed of 10 knots and a top speed of 12 knots.

SURI has been designed to comfortably accommodate up to 12 charter guests in 6 suites.

The guest cabins comprise a primary suite with a king size bed and en-suite bathroom facilities, 3 VIP suites with a king size bed and en-suite bathroom facilities, a cabin with a king size bed and en-suite bathroom facilities and a VIP suite with a queen size bed and en-suite bathroom facilities.

Your luxury charter on board motor yacht SURI will be managed by the crew of 17 including the captain.

The crew will ensure you have a relaxed and enjoyable charter experience with all of your needs catered for while on board.

The 17 crew have their own separate crew quarters allowing guests to enjoy increased levels of privacy.

Juan Koegelenberg

Our illustrious leader started his working career in 1987 when he joined the South African Military Services where he qualified as an Officer and Instructor at the Meganized Leaders Wing. Shortly after he left the Military he moved from Johannesburge to Cape Town where he enrolled in a Commercial Diving program and thereafter worked for three consecutive years as an offshore commercial diver. After ending his diving career in 1993 he joined the yachting industry and today his 20years of experience stand him in good stead by taking his first command as Captain in 1999 aboard a 114ft “Mamosa” and as build Captain of the 164ft yacht “JeMaSa” built at Hakvoort Shipyard in Holland. JeMaSa was also owned by the same owners as SuRi, and thereafter Juan is the longest standing crewmember with the owners approaching 9 years of employment. He has endless enthusiasm for SuRi, its operation and he enjoys working as a team and exploring out of the way and adventurous cruising destinations. As Captain Juan has logged over 250,000 Nautical Miles and has completed two circumnavigation trips around the globe. With this global cruising experience he also understands how to make yachting fun for the guests and the crew alike. With this in mind Juan has a very good reputation for longevity amongst his crew. We can therefore state that he is well seasoned and an exceptional seaman. Once aboard you will find Juan very polite, friendly, flexible to guest demands and competent in what he does.

Andrew Deas

A native Australian, Andrew worked for many years as a dive instructor on Australia's Great Barrier Reef. He has extensive experience with yachts and previously worked as a Captain. Andrew is Chief Engineer on Motor Yacht SuRi and joined in 2008. He has a Chief Engineer MCA Y2 certification and Australian Class 4 Masters certification. In his spare time, Andrew enjoys hang gliding, hiking and snorkeling. Andrew is happily married and lives with his beautiful wife in New Zealand.

Norman Ramsay

A native Kiwi; Norman has been a sailing and racing fanatic his whole life. He started his super yacht career in 1999 and since then has been traveling the ocean as a Chief Engineer. He previously worked for Super Yacht Drumbeg, Super Yacht Nelson, Motor Yacht Aquila, Motor Yacht Lady Georgina, and Motor Yacht Whitestar. Norman is Chief Engineer aboard Motor Yacht SuRi joining in 2010. He has an MCA Y3 Certification, Trade Certificate in Automotive Engineering, Advanced Fire Fighting, Advanced First Aid, and Yacht Master Offshore. Norman enjoys sailing, yacht racing, fishing, diving, watersports, snowboarding, golf, squash, and is a Qualified Personal Fitness Trainer. He also enjoys nuclear physics, algebra, molecular chemistry, and genetic science. Norman is happily married and lives with his beautiful wife and adorable daughter, Dana Rose, in New Zealand.

Dion is a native Kiwi from Auckland, New Zealand. His prior experience includes four years of boat building apprenticeship at Alloy Yachts International; two years of structural steel fabrication at Gold Coast in Australia; and three years as Boat Building Supervisor at Cobra Boats & Marine Engineering in Nadi, Fiji. He has over 10 years of experience in the yachting industry and is currently Motor Yacht SuRi’s 2nd Engineer joining in 2010. He has an NZQA Aluminum boat building Level 4 certificate, Approved Engine Course, Maritime Coastguard Authority of U.K., and PADI diver. In his spare time, he enjoys skateboarding, wakeboarding, diving, and surfing.

Siliveno Tuitavua 'Tui'

Tui has over 20 years of experience in the tourism industry. He has 10 years of experience as Captain of game fishing charters, parasailing guide, and several other watersport activities. Tui is currently the Bosun on Motor Yacht SuRi and joined in 2008. He has Fijian Class Five Masters certification, PADI certified dive instructor, and rescue diver. He is experienced in game fishing and spear diving. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, plays rugby, volleyball, and boxing. Tui grew up in Yasawa Islands in Fiji; beautiful islands famous for movies such as Blue Lagoon and Castaway.

Sandra Compain

A native of Fiji, Sandra spent over five years traveling the world as a flight attendant for Air Pacific. She joined Suri as a Stewardess in 2008 and was promoted to Chief Stewardess in 2011. She is certified in IYT Flora Design & Care, IYT Silver Service Certificate, IYT Food Service – Safety & Hygiene, New York Bartending & Mixology, New York Bartending Wine Service, and PADI Diver certified. Sandra’s dad is of French decent and her mum is a beautiful Fijian Muslim. Sandra was brought up on a dairy farm in a small town known as Nausori in Fiji and has seven sisters and four brothers. She enjoys photography, swimming, cooking, and baking in her spare time.

Rory Martin

Rory is an Aussie from Whitsundays and is 3rd Stewardess aboard Motor Yacht SuRi since May 2012. She ensures Motor Yacht SuRi is prepared and maintained to luxury yacht standards by providing first class service to all charter guests. Her exceptional skills and certificates include a degree in Business with Marketing major and Professional Super Yacht Hospitality Training for Interior Crew. Rory’s past experience includes Assistant Marketing Manager for a National Pharmacy Group and Resort Assistant Manager in Hamilton Island. Rory loves traveling, reading, photography, socializing with friends and family.

David Dawson

David trained under Michelin star rated Chefs at two of Australia's best restaurants circa; the Prince and Banc Restaurant in Sydney. He was invited to join the World of Residensea floating six stars resort on its maiden voyage around the world in a bid to be awarded the first Michelin star on water. After further training in Europe, he opened his own restaurant at the age of 24 in Zihuatanejo, Mexico which received high accolades from the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald and many other publications both within Mexico and abroad. David joined SuRi in June 2012 as Sous Chef.

Steve's passions are flying helicopters and private planes. His talents are not only in flying; he also enjoys surfing, diving, and motor crossing. He is SuRi’s skilled under water photographer who is always up for a challenge. Steve is one of SuRi’s aviation pilots joining in 2008.

Dan Nickens

A life-long Floridian, Dan has been flying for more than 30 years. He grew up in Florida around water and boats. He has graduate degrees in marine geology, coastal & oceanographic engineering, and law from the University of Florida. After a professional career managing explosive, reactive, and radioactive wastes, he retired to fly seaplanes. He is a Commercial Pilot with more than 8500 flight hours, 4500 in seaplanes. He has been flying his favorite seaplane, the SuRi’s SeaRey, since 2010.

63m motor yacht SuRi to star in Jason Statham movie with marine co-ordination and logistical support by Yacht Solutions

Yacht Solutions has been appointed as marine consultant on Jason Statham’s new movie, called ‘ Mechanic: Resurrection’ ,  which is due for cinematic release in January 2016. The impressive and robust 63m expedition charter yacht SuRi will appear in the movie. Motor yacht SuRi has just completed a two-month major refit with Yacht Solutions at Bangkok Dock in Thailand .

Shooting started in Bangkok with Statham reprising his title role as a master assassin who faked his death, in an attempt to walk away from his former profession, in order to lead a peaceful and quiet retirement. Also starring Tommy Lee Jones and Jessica Alba. Line producer in Thailand is Tom Waller of De Warrenne Pictures and marine consultant is Yacht Solutions who have chartered the yacht, helped arranged shooting and are working with the crew during shooting. Filming starts mid November until mid December onboard the 63-metre superyacht SuRi in Thailand.

They will be filming on location on explorer yacht SuRi in the Gulf of Thailand organised by Yacht Solutions and they will also be filming in and around Phuket .

Gareth Twist, managing director of Yacht Solutions said: “It’s a pleasure to be working on such high profile film, with such prestigious actors.  This is a great opportunity for the marine industry in Thailand, enabling us to showcase what filming opportunities are available here, both on land and sea.  Blockbusters such as these will help to promote the country as an exotic, beautiful and friendly location for filming.  We will be offering the production company marine co-ordination and logistical support.”

Dennis Gansel directs the thriller from a screenplay by Philip Shelby, Tony Mosher, Rachel Long and Brian Pittman. “Mechanic: Resurrection” is being produced by William Chartoff, David Winkler, John Thompson and Frank DeMartini. The 2011 original grossed $62 million worldwide.
