Irish National Sailing and Powerboat School

The Irish National Sailing School, based in Dun Laoghaire, is the largest sailboat training provider in Ireland.

Our new primary school educational programme is focussed on the varied marine life and coastline at our doorstep. We can provide educational activities from rock pooling on a sandy beach to exploring the marine life in the local caves and harbour. We do this hands-on fun filled activity, both on the beaches and aboard our fleet of pirate launches.

Our programmes are based on the primary school science and maths curriculum which we believe will offer a new dimension to classroom learning.

IRISH NATIONAL SAILING CLUB

The Irish National Sailing Club was formed in 2015. Our ethos is to spread the passion, beauty and wonder we have found in water sports. Our members take part in paddle boarding, sea kayaking and powerboating, also sailing in dinghies, J80s sports boats and yachts.

We have members who have qualified as yacht masters, instructors, raced in Dublin bay and offshore. Some have sailed in many areas of the world and even across the Atlantic. Over our few short years in existence we have exploded the myth of the elitism connected to the sailing experience. Giving people access to the world of sailing and water sports using a pay as you go model and connected to a modest annual club membership fee, providing access at a low cost and at the club member's own pace and to suit all budgets and needs.

Come and share our passion and begin what may be a life changing experience. Where will you begin your journey?

History and Formation...

Irish National Sailing & Powerboat School Principal Alistair Rumball had a long held dream of replicating the easy, informal and enjoyable sailing club scene he witnessed in France in the 1970s. This dream became a reality after 40 years when in late 2014 the decision was taken to form the Club.

The Irish National Sailing Club name has appeared around the Dun Laoghaire waterfront over the years as the trading name of Alistair's sailing school's adult course section. Graduates would continue to sail with the school in a safe, relaxed environment with school supports alongside, which was known as club sailing. The separation of the Club from the school serves to allow club sailors to become members, with ownership and a say in the direction of their club, while keeping what was good about the relationship with the school.

To accomplish this vision, Alistair set about finding like-minded individuals (namely that sailing should be just that - sailing, without all the extra fuss). His son Kenneth had recently taken over the running of the Irish National Sailing and Powerboat School and was brought on board along with senior instructors Glyn Williams and Calum Paterson. Club sailors Joan Sheffield and Robin Jones came onboard, representing Dinghy and Keelboat sailors. Finally Andy Boyle, a well known dinghy and yacht racer from Dun Laoghaire came onboard, and with that a committee was formed.

I recently completed my level 1 keel boat certification here. I researched a bit online before and found this to be the best looking sailing school in the Dublin area. They have a well setup website which is very informative as to the different course offerings (dinghy, keel boat, powerboat). Checkout their website at insc.ie. The instructors are very good and patient and all of the necessary weatherproof gear and life jackets are provided. If you have an interest in sailing, they can teach you. The level 1 keel boat training is held in these really nice boats called 1720s. Definitely easy to learn on and exciting boats. I did my make up session in a squib boat which is smaller than the 1720s and what is used in the level 2 course. Boat are very easy to learn on and I look forward to future sailings. Due to bad weather one day, one of the days of sailing had to be rescheduled. They were very prompt at notification to everyone through phone and email. They also promptly rescheduled everyone, most within the next week. Very well run operation as far as this goes.

Not nice staff. A very expensive alternative and they do not teach the courses as well as the very nearby Dun Laoghaire Powerboat School. I seriously would not recommend this club but in fact, I would avoid if I could. The staff are not very nice and seem to care more about themselves than others. They also don't offer as good a youth service as the nearby Irish Youth Sailing Club. The leaders turned the hot water off in the showers for me on purpose. This is no way to run a sailing club. Stay clear. Please. They are also rude to people in other clubs and have little to no respect for any property other than their own. They told kids from the Irish Youth Sailing Club that they were not allowed on the public steps. Please go somewhere else and you will thank me! It really is not the best place to and I can assure you that there are way better places than this and that this may seem an easy all rounder but do a bit more digging and find somewhere else for youth sailing I would certainly recommend the Irish Youth Sailing Clun iysc.net and for Powerboating the Dun Laoghaire Powerboat School. Adult sailing I would recommend the DMYC. Again please avoid this club!

Really good campus with facilities that allow the students to have a holistic education. The Rosinka Campus provides students with a more unique PE curriculum giving students the opportunity to learn sports like rock climbing, ice-skating, swimming, kayaking, along with more traditional sports like athletics, ball sports, and racket sports.

Have visited there for work. Excellent facilities and great staff. A great place for young people to learn.

The primary school in Rosinka is a great place for happy childhood: qualified teachers, facilities, location, atmosphere, variety of activities!

The best school ever! Love and proud being a part of it!

Students enjoy going to school every day and develop both their academic and pastoral skills. The academic year is full of special events such as STEAM Week and International Week. Great facilities in the Rosinka compound used by the school including a large swimming pool, tennis courts and even a private lake and beach.

Amazing school with professional staff and individual approach to each child. Location, facilities and school atmosphere - great environment for children to learn and grow.

Rosinka has an excellent leaderships team and highly qualified teachers. Lessons are presented in a very attractive way that keeps children strongly envolved. The atmosphere is welcoming and with a personal approach to students. The school presents a wide range of sport and cultural activitites to attend. The school has high expectations of the students and high levels of acchievement. Our children (Dutch, 10-13 y.o.) are studying for 4 years at the school and love it.

Great school! Myself and both my younger sisters went to/ go to ISM and I wouldn’t have wanted us to be anywhere else! The teachers were amazing and very educated and I don’t think I would be getting a PhD from one of the best universities in the UK without their experience and support.

Been part of ISM Rosinka for two years and we feel very blessed! Elite education and our children love going to school !

Text description provided by the architects. The official grand opening of a special school, Letovo School , took place in Moscow last September. The assignment entailed a 20 hectare schoolcampus with educational facilities, student housing and school staff housing. The school campus offers extended outdoor sports facilities with a soccer stade, a running track, tennis courts and basketball courts. In addition there is a greenhouse, a treeyard and ample space for wandering and relaxation in the green.

Letovo Schoolcampus / atelier PRO - Image 2 of 36

While the architecture and interior of the school were designed by atelier PRO, the landscape design was developed by Buro Sant en Co landscape architecture. Russian firm Atrium Architectural Studio was responsible for the technical execution. In 2014 Atelier PRO had won the international design competition, the construction began mid-2016 and the campus was taken into use by mid-2018.

Letovo Schoolcampus / atelier PRO - Windows, Column

Letovo, a dream come true Letovo School is a special school for gifted and motivated children aged 12 to 17. The idea to create the school came from entrepreneur and philanthropist Vadim Moshkovich: ‘My dream was to offer talented children from all over the country access to high-quality education, regardless of their parents’ financial means. This school makes it possible for them to continue their studies at the 10 best universities in the country or at one of the top 50 universities in the world.’

Letovo Schoolcampus / atelier PRO - Windows, Facade

Landscape-inspired design and shape Located in Novaya Moskva, southwest of Moscow ,the campus sits atop a beautiful plot of land that slopes down to a forest-lined river. Distinctive level variations were applied in and around the school to integrate the architecture into the landscape.

Letovo Schoolcampus / atelier PRO - Windows, Facade

The shape of the large complex brings it down to a human scale for the children: the building appears to dance across the landscape due to its dynamic design. Due to the perspective effect one only ever sees part of the building's full size when walking around, which gives the impression of a refined scale. The building’s contours and flowing curves create surprising indoor and outdoor spaces as well.

Letovo Schoolcampus / atelier PRO - Chair

The heart of the school: the central hub The central hub is the place where day-to-day life at the school unfolds. This flexible, transformable space will be used throughout the day as an informal meeting place. The dance studio on the ground floor can be transformed through a few simple adjustments into a theatre with a stage, a cosy living room or an auditorium that can accommodate 1,000 people for special events such as graduation ceremonies and large celebrations, as seen at the grand opening. This central hub connects the building’s three wings: the art wing, the south wing with science- and general-use rooms and the sports wing

Letovo Schoolcampus / atelier PRO - Windows, Facade

Learning environment with a diversity in working spaces Letovo envisioned an innovative and modern take on existing education in Russia. In the spatial design, this perspective translates into space for theoretical education as well as special areas for group work and independent study in the tapered building wings. In the library wing there are silence spaces workshop spaces and a debating room. These are all supportive to the student’s personal development.

Letovo Schoolcampus / atelier PRO - Image 13 of 36

Sports programme In addition to the extended sports outdoor facilities, the indoor supply of sports facilities is substantial. These cover fitness rooms, martial arts rooms, a swimming pool, a small and a large sports hall. Around the sports hall there’s an indoor running track which can be used throughout the year. It is available to school staff and external users as well.

Letovo Schoolcampus / atelier PRO - Image 14 of 36

The interior, also designed by atelier PRO, is tailored to the aims of the ambitious programme. The design of the interior also focuses extensively on the various spaces where students can go to chill and meet up with friends. The extreme cold in this area makes the school’s indoor atmosphere important for relaxation.

Ambitous learning environment The Russian client has established a private, non-profit school which aims to be the most prestigious school in the country and to offer the best educational programme through a Russion and an IB (International Baccalaureate) curriculum. Students’ personal development is paramount, with the school adopting a holistic approach. It is a true learning environment that provides scope for a range of disciplines, areas of interest and recreational opportunities to foster children’s development. This aim is supported by the campus facilities and functions.
