Felix Description

Felix is a 2015 Lagoon 52 with 4 spacious queen guest cabins. All guest cabins have en-suite electric heads with vanity and separate shower stalls. There is also a bunk cabin that offers two single berths and crew will swap out for a queen upon request. Felix has an abundance of natural lighting and ventilation throughout the yacht plus air-conditioning throughout. Each cabin can adjust the air-conditioning individually for optimal guest comfort. The yacht offers alfresco dining in the cockpit and will comfortably accommodate 8 guests at the table. The salon will also seat up to 8 guests for dining or just relaxing. There are plenty of options for sunbathing and multiple areas to avoid the midday sun is you so choose. The fly-bridge offers seating and lounge area with a 360-degree view and in addition there is a lounge area upfront behind the large trampolines. Whether you are looking for a fun family adventure or a Caribbean getaway with friends, Felix is perfect for you on the sailing trip of a lifetime!

MEET YOUR CREW FOR THE 2023/2024 SEASON Captain: Kayla Rosenstrauch Chef: Chris Allwright Kayla grew up along the Texas coast and spent her summers on the water aboard fishing boats and at the beach. This guided her passion for the ocean. At the age of 16 signed up for a scuba diving camp, in the British Virgin Islands, where she lived on a catamaran and went diving three times a day for 6 weeks. This is when her desire to become a Captain and Divemaster got started. After obtaining her marketing degree at LSU, she first worked as a chef/hostess for Quarterdeck and then attended a sailing/captain’s school in South Africa where she did a 4-month program to obtain her RYA Yachtmaster Certification. This is when she knew she had made the right decision and followed her heart. Kayla returned to Croatia where she began working as a captain. Kayla is a sociable and ultra-positive individual with a love for people and is extremely outgoing and enthusiastic about life! Chris started off his love of cooking at a young age with his father who always encouraged him to make his own meals, no matter the challenge it may have presented. He has a degree in geological science and worked in the advertising industry for 3 years before joining a culinary program to become a private chef. He has worked on charter yachts in Croatia and Greece and as a private chalet chef in the French Alps. In 2022, Chris also worked as a relief chef for several different restaurants in different locations throughout Dublin. This afforded him a unique insight into different kitchens offering differing cuisines and styles. Having first crossed paths in 2021 Kayla and Chris became best friends. They have had the opportunity to work together on charters in the Virgin Islands and when they both worked in Croatia. They are truly an outstanding duo and look forward to tailoring the experience to their guests preference, while sharing their love for cooking, cocktails, sailing, diving and sunsets on the ocean in their favorite bays. Kayla and Chris are super excited to run charters on Felix!

How did you find your crew? Were they friendly, knowledgeable, attentive and accommodating? The crew was wonderful. Kayla and Chris fitted in with our family perfectly and made us feel comfortable and at home aboard Felix. Their humor and knowledge were both greatly appreciated! Was the yacht comfortable, clean and well ventilated? What was your favorite aspect of the yacht? The yacht was very comfortable and clean. It had all of the accommodations we needed, nothing was missing. Personally I enjoyed the various different viewpoints to sit or lounge at while we went from island to island. Was the food enjoyable and well presented? Did the chef customize the menu to your preferences? The food was fantastic; Chris truly spoiled us! I personally have a challenging diet with several allergies and he made sure every meal felt complete vs feeling like an, “allergy friendly,” meal. And it was all delicious! Did you enjoy the itinerary and the area you sailed? 1000%. Every day of the charter my love for the Virgin Islands grew. Were you happy with your broker´s service? How can we improve? Very happy. One Big Family Now

Captain - thank you so much for navigating us safely thru the BVI´s, ensuring we had an awesome time playing with all the water toys and snorkel gear and keeping our drinks chilled and beer on ice! Chef Taylor - you are such a talented chef! We all raved all week on how delicious all your homemade food was. Most importantly, thank you both for making sure we had a trip of a lifetime!! The most fabulous surprise this week was the cooking. The variety and ingenious recipes- all of them health foods, blew my mind. It´s the first time ever I really enjoyed health conscious cooking. There were meals- your baked eggs, my favorite - that were shockingly tasty. Thank you for everything. You adapted to our dietary choices. One pescatarian, dairy free, gluten free, and spice intolerance. And like magic came up with recipes that were both gorgeous and delicious, filling and healthy. You did it with love and enthusiasm-including the menu board done with calligraphy. And the boat was so comfy. Zack our captain always with a good plan and smooth ride with a happy and kind demeanor. You were so thoughtful in your explanations and feedback was so positive and thoughtful.Way beyond your years. Wish every man was as good to his lady and other women as you. The world would be a better place. Your humor was always kind and silly fun. And the dives were wonderful. Bottom line, I´d love to adopt you. Be proud of you for your resourceful, mindful energy- it´s beautiful. Thank you so much for a week of restoration in this stressful time. So good to find. Don´t lose your mojo - its precious. Wow-oh-wow Zack, you are a great captain and what a tremendous week we have had here in the virgin islands. You rocked out so many fun activities for us: Scuba diving The octopus shipwreck Penetrating the steel structure and exploring the engine room!!! Jane loved watching Felix (son) wakeboard with RIzzo as your copilot in the tender from the stand up paddle board in the beautiful bay off Virgin Gorda. (our favorite island) Greg and Jane watched you sail or motor almost every moment of the adventure and sure appreciated the knowledge bestowed from the helm! and.... Sweet Southern Taylor! How we enjoyed your delicious, culinary offerings! Especially the fabulous nightly sweet treats! You were a vital member of our rowdy night out at Willy T´s´ from the shotski to the dance floor...and don´t forget about the belly laughing over the pirates creed. As much as Jane loved swimming and being beachy with Rizzo, he so enjoyed arting and gaming in the kitchen with you that we adults ( plus teenager) had some special moments away from big parenting responsibility, Thanks so much for that amazing space to relax and unwind. Can´t wait to connect again on the great mother´s waters.

So Much Fun

Taylor, I´ve had so much fun with you in the kitchen!! I loved when you played games with us and I really enjoyed when we stayed back from the hike and it was just us two!!! I´ll miss you! Zack, thank you for keeping us safe with your sailing skills! I really liked when you took us out for a sunset dinghy ride, I also liked when we sang the 100 bottles of beer song! We will miss you all so much. Thank you!

You Made Us Feel So Comfortable!

This has been such an amazing trip because of Taylor and Zack! You all have been so kind, helpful, and it is so great how well you work as a team. Taylor, your food was so amazing and never failed to make us happy. You were also so helpful and fun. The games we played were so fun and you always let us help you cook. Zack, you are an amazing captain. You were also having a good time with us from fun facts and learning games. You were a great hiking leader. You both were so involved with us which made us more comfortable. Thank you so much for a great trip. I will always remember this.

This was 10/10 easily the best trip I have ever taken. Both of you are really awesome people, some of the best that I know. Taylor, you make the best food I have ever tasted and are super fun to hang out with. Zack, you know all the secrets to all the islands and are pretty tough and super fun to hang out with. Packed With Experiences

Zack and Taylor, this has been an amazing week. We have done so much that it is really hard to pick one favorite. Hiking, snorkeling, swimming, tubing, wakeboarding, puzzles, games, stories, sunsets, beautiful views, great music, and so much more! I can´t believe how much we packed into one week. Food...Where do I start? Every meal and snack was so thoughtful and accommodating to our families. Everything was delicious and beautiful. I will definitely be texting you for recipes. This is definitely a yacht for foodies. The food and drinks will leave you wanting more. Taylor´s food and drinks are amazing! Zack is a wonderful yachtsman. He knows his places and having him share where to go next every evening was very informative. They really made this trip a lot of fun and very enjoyable for us.

Our experience with Zack and Taylor was WONDERFUL! Taylor is an incredible chef, every meal was somehow better than the last. The desserts were out of this world. Zack and Taylor both made excellent drinks and kept them flowing! Zack was also super helpful around the boat. Thank you both.

What an amazing adventure! Zack and Taylor were great hosts. We sailed and stopped at so many great locations, so it´s hard to pick a favorite. I think Christmas Cove was my favorite snorkeling spot. Saw amazing coral, fish, rays, and starfish! Zack was always accommodating or making sure we went to locations that met our devices. Chef Taylor - Wow! The food was incredible! I´m sure the scales will confirm that I enjoyed everything Taylor prepared for us. I´m having a hard time coming up with a favorite entree but dessert...hands down for me was the Key Lime pie. Taylor uses many unique and delicious flavors to enhance everything she cooks. The presentations are pure art work. It was fun to see Taylor and Zack working as a team in the kitchen. Thanks for a memorable vacation.

This charter has been a long time (30 plus years) dream of ours!

We had an amazing time on the Felix with Zack and Taylor. This has been a long time (30 plus years) dream of ours. It exceeded our expectations. Zack is a knowledgeable captain. We felt safe at all times. He was full of information about the islands and always took us someplace interesting and fun. We especially enjoyed snorkeling at Monkey Point and Christmas Cove. Visiting the Baths was an especially nice trip. Zack also is a great scuba instructor. Doing a refresher course and dive was great. So the only thing bad I can say about Taylor´s cooking was that my clothes are so tight as I prepare to leave! Steak and lobster were so good. As was the korean kabobs and Key Lime pie (BEST EVER!) The Felix is a great boat. Comfortable and well outfitted but Taylor and Zack made the trip! You became like family Visit Michigan some day!

Thank you Captain Zack and Chef Taylor for a wonderful week on Felix. We couldn´t have asked for a better time! Both Zack and Taylor were friendly and enthusiastic about showing us all the BVI and USVI has to offer. Both are extremely knowledgeable, professional, and open to ideas and we always felt safe and comfortable. Besides knowing everything there is to know about marine life, Zack went above and beyond with taking our teenage crosscountry enthusiast son on trail runs and explored other islands. Felix is a 2015 Lagoon 52 with 4 spacious queen guest cabins. All guest cabins have en-suite electric heads with vanity and separate shower stalls. There is also a bunk cabin that offers two single berths and crew will swap out for a queen upon request. Felix has an abundance of natural lighting and ventilation throughout the yacht plus air-conditioning throughout. Each cabin can adjust the air-conditioning individually for optimal guest comfort. The yacht offers alfresco dining in the cockpit and will comfortably accommodate 8 guests at the table. The salon will also seat up to 8 guests for dining or just relaxing. There are plenty of options for sunbathing and multiple areas to avoid the midday sun is you so choose. The fly-bridge offers seating and lounge area with a 360-degree view and in addition there is a lounge area upfront behind the large trampolines. Whether you are looking for a fun family adventure or a Caribbean getaway with friends, Felix is perfect for you on the sailing trip of a lifetime!

MEET YOUR CREW FOR THE 2023/2024 SEASON

Captain: Kayla Rosenstrauch

Chef: Chris Allwright

Kayla grew up along the Texas coast and spent her summers on the water aboard fishing boats and at the beach. This guided her passion for the ocean. At the age of 16 signed up for a scuba diving camp, in the British Virgin Islands, where she lived on a catamaran and went diving three times a day for 6 weeks. This is when her desire to become a Captain and Divemaster got started.

After obtaining her marketing degree at LSU, she first worked as a chef/hostess for Quarterdeck and then attended a sailing/captain’s school in South Africa where she did a 4-month program to obtain her RYA Yachtmaster Certification. This is when she knew she had made the right decision and followed her heart. Kayla returned to Croatia where she began working as a captain.

Chris started off his love of cooking at a young age with his father who always encouraged him to make his own meals, no matter the challenge it may have presented.

He has a degree in geological science and worked in the advertising industry for 3 years before joining a culinary program to become a private chef. He has worked on charter yachts in Croatia and Greece and as a private chalet chef in the French Alps.

In 2022, Chris also worked as a relief chef for several different restaurants in different locations throughout Dublin. This afforded him a unique insight into different kitchens offering differing cuisines and styles.

Having first crossed paths in 2021 Kayla and Chris became best friends. They have had the opportunity to work together on charters in the Virgin Islands and when they both worked in Croatia.

They are truly an outstanding duo and look forward to tailoring the experience to their guests preference, while sharing their love for cooking, cocktails, sailing, diving and sunsets on the ocean in their favorite bays. Kayla and Chris are super excited to run charters on Felix!

The crew was wonderful. Kayla and Chris fit in with our family perfectly and made us feel comfortable and at home aboard Felix. Their humor and knowledge were both greatly appreciated!

The food was fantastic; Chris truly spoiled us! I personally have a challenging diet with several allergies and he made sure every meal felt complete vs feeling like an “allergy friendly” meal. And it was all delicious!

The yacht was very comfortable and clean. It had all of the accommodations we needed - nothing was missing... I enjoyed the various different viewpoints to sit or lounge at while we went from island to island.

Lagoon 52ft - 2015

Yacht description.

Felix is a really lovely Lagoon 52 catamaran. Layout is flexible with 4 queen cabins or with the option of 3 queens and bunk beds if you have children or singles in your group. Each cabin has an ensuite bathroom with separate shower stall. The salon and galley are on one level and lead into the cockpit which has two separate seating areas plus a wet bar. There is a really good selection of water sports equipment plus onboard diving.

On decks there is a ton of space with good areas for privacy or groups. There is an upstairs sky lounge, which will end up being the most popular spot on the boat, with comfy seating and a fabulous view. A huge cockpit at the back of the boat for al fresco dining provides enough room for 8 people easily.

Rental rates.

2-8 guests. 7 nights minimum Charters during Christmas week are required to finish by Dec 27

2-8 guests.7 nights minimum New Year charters commence no earlier than Dec 28

Half Board rates include all breakfasts, 4 lunches and 3 dinners. Remaining meals to be taken off the yacht at guests’ expense.

Local Fare rates include all breakfasts, 5 lunches and 6 dinners. Requires 2 lunches and 1 dinner ashore at client expense.

Includes boarding after 4 pm, snacks, welcome cocktails and continental breakfast. Dinner is to be taken ashore at the clients’ expense. Not applicable to Christmas and New Year’s weeks.

  • A crew gratuity, based on your level of satisfaction, but typically 15-20% of the charter rate is not included

Rendezvous diving

If your crewed charter yacht does not offer onboard diving then fear not, rendezvous diving can be arranged.

So what is Rendezvous diving?

A local dive company will pick you up direct from your charter yacht at a pre-determined location and take you for a one- or two-tank dive to experience the BVI below the water. This is an excellent option if only a couple of guests wish to dive or can work equally as well if all your group are interested. If your charter yacht offers minimal onboard diving, then rendezvous diving can also work if you wanted to add a few more dives during your charter.

Rendezvous diving is at additional cost, payable locally. The dive company provides all gear.

"Pampered beyond belief" on the Catamaran Felix!

"Can’t say enough good things about our experience. I honestly cannot remember another vacation where I literally didn’t lift a finger. We were pampered beyond belief- from the food to the drinks to the constant activities dictated by our wild kid crew, Heiko and Rebecca were always a step ahead. We swam, snorkeled, endless jumping from the boat and slip-and-sliding, hiked, beached, paddle boarded, movie and disco nights on the boat… and did i mention the gourmet meals?!? Heiko and Rebecca attended to every detail and helped make a birthday one for the books. Would 100% follow this amazing duo wherever they go. The boat was comfortable and perfect for our crew of 8. Loved every second!!!"

MEET YOUR CREW FOR THE 2022/23 SEASON

Zack and Taylor met under the sunny skies of the US Virgin Islands. While enjoying the last days of vacation in the islands, Taylor swam up to the stage at the famous Rock the Boat event and just happened to catch her eye on a handsome Captain Zack. They struck up a conversation that would open up a world of adventure and inspiration that continued beyond a simple vacation. Taylor then moved down to the islands in short order. They shared many adventures, island hopping, and discovering the hidden gems of the Caribbean. Then they hopped in Zack’s camper van and drove around the US appreciating the modern American art form of craft beer, moving from wild spaces to far off places.

Growing up in Ohio, believe it or not there is water up there, Zack began boating as boy, on a little lake just outside of Cleveland. Here the tide began to turn on the rise of the ocean as the centerpiece of his life. His father taught him handling, and his mother taught him patience.

Fast-forward past the “formative” years to the beginning of the wandering ones. Zack first began sailing in St Augustine, Florida 5 years ago on the Schooner Freedom. Coming from a service industry background, the transition to charter sailing was quite suitable. Learning to sail on a traditionally rigged vessel gave a great appreciation for the art of sailing and instilled a love for it that Zack applies to anything he does in or on the ocean. He also took his first dives during that time and became Open Water certified.

After a couple years, Zack moved on to work with Lindblad Expeditions/National Geographic. As an immersive, high-end cruising operation, this world taught the ins and outs of liveaboard work and cruising to exceed the expectations of high end clientele. As a licensed deckhand Zack ran onshore and offshore expeditions in remote and wild areas, which gives a sense and awareness in exploring unique locales in a safe and enjoyable manner. It also brought him close to some amazing wildlife, geology, and oceanography, which has enhanced his knowledge base and ability to engage and educate clientele. This also allowed Zack to save up to complete his Divemaster course with PADI, which he did in Roatan, Honduras. Here he fell “deeper” in love with the ocean, exploring the wild and wonderful world of the reef. Wall dives, swim throughs, caves, and wrecks are his favorites…but anything under the ocean further drives the engine of passion.

Following this Zack went on to run private charter sails in Bar Harbor, Maine, which gave him the experience of managing his own vessel and guest experiences. Working in these waters gave him an advanced appreciation for the magnificent forces of the ocean and a continued wonder for how this world has shaped itself through the ages.

This will be Zack’s second season in the Caribbean. All of the experiences of a beautiful first year down here provide the knowledge base to help cultivate unique itineraries of adventure, relaxation, and wonder.

Growing up in the small North Carolina town of Surf City by salty water has always been home and where Taylor’s passions for all things ocean blossomed. At a young age she was introduced to cooking, boating, and fishing. The love for all of those things just grew even stronger over time.

Taylor got started in the kitchen early. During her younger years she always enjoyed being with her mother while she was cooking. She quickly picked up on things and started assisting. Not too long after that she was making family dinners herself. Taylor comes from a southern and Asian background that is full of tradition Her love for food and excitement was a catalyst to expand her knowledge in the culinary world that led to her working in many different types of restaurants for over a decade. Taylor’s main interest lies in preparing seafood dishes of many different sorts.

While the kitchen was the heart of her home, the sea was her love. Boating and fishing became a key part of Taylor’s everyday life. She spent a lot of time with her dad fishing. They would travel about eighty miles offshore to the gulf. At the age of fourteen she acquired her boating license. She worked at the local marina in the summers cleaning and detailing boats allowing her to meet several fishermen in the area. She became a part time first-mate and would work for several different captains throughout her time off from school from spring to fall. Together they would day charter guests inshore and offshore to catch an array of different species. She acquired a specific set of skills that led to her toughest and longest fight reeling in a 450-pound marlin. Growing up around the water and in the boating world she learned a lot about how to properly maintain and take care of boats.

Throughout life Taylor has built up lots of strengths and passions. Her mission is to make all who encounter her feel special and important. Taylor thrives from showing kindness, love, and compassion. All experiences are better with smiles, laughter, exceptional food, and memories that will last a lifetime.

Cabins in the boat offer lots of natural lighting and great ventilation. The boat is fully air-conditioned, and each cabin can adjust the air-conditioning individually for optimal guest comfort.

4 guest queen cabins each with private ensuite electric head, vanity, and separate shower. The crew stays in a separate twin bunk cabin and private head.

This vessel is the 5 Cabin Version: 4 Queen Staterooms and 5th Bunk bed Stateroom. Normally Crew will take the bunks unless requested at the time of booking.

The Top fly-bridge offers seating and lounge area with a 360-degree view. There is also a lounge area forward behind the large trampolines.

Breakfast Burrito- sausage, egg, roasted sweet red peppers with a blend of provolone and mozzarella cheese topped with salsa and sliced avocado

Classic Shakshuka topped with goat cheese, cilantro, and toasted naan

Pancakes Banana Foster- fluffy buttermilk pancakes with sweet, warm bananas and maple syrup and whipped cream

Southern Eggs Benedict- poached egg, crispy fried green tomatoes, shaved ham, topped with pimento cheese on a toasted English muffin

Fruit Parfait Bowl- Greek yogurt topped with assortment of fruit (blueberries, kiwi, strawberries) and  granola

Classic Breakfast- two eggs, bacon or sausage, home fries, and whole wheat toast

Toasted Bagels- everything bagel with cream cheese, avocado spread, prosciutto, and onion

Grilled Shrimp Salad- mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, red onion, shaved carrots, sliced avocado with a citrus vinaigrette

Fish tacos- grilled mahi and pineapple mango salsa on warm tortillas topped with feta cheese

Chicken Club- juicy marinaded oven roasted chicken, bacon, pickled sweet peppers, arugula, cheddar cheese, garlic and sundried tomato aioli on toasted sourdough

Korean Steak and Shrimp Skewers- citrus and sesame based marinaded steak, yellow and red bell peppers, sweet Vidalia onions, and grilled garlic lemon shrimp with a tossed garden salad served with balsamic vinaigrette

Cabins in the boat offer lots of natural lighting and great ventilation. The boat is fully air-conditioned, and each cabin can adjust the air-conditioning individually for optimal guest comfort.

4 guest queen cabins each with private ensuite electric head, vanity, and separate shower. The crew stays in a separate twin bunk cabin and private head.

This vessel is the 5 Cabin Version: 4 Queen Staterooms and 5th Bunk bed Stateroom. Normally Crew will take the bunks unless requested at the time of booking.

A spacious and luxurious flybridge is the perfect place to settle during sails. The Top fly-bridge offers seating and lounge area with a 360-degree view. There is also a lounge area forward behind the large trampolines.

Crew Profile: Captain Rebecca & Chef Heiko

Heiko, born and raised in Germany, is an RYA Offshore Yacht Master. He left his job in IT management in 2014 to begin his dream to travel. Initially intending to be away for about a year, he soon realized that going back to an office-based job did not feel right for him anymore. Since then he has travelled throughout South and Central America, Europe, Southeast Asia, Africa and Australia. During this time he visited 30+ countries, speed-hiked the Camino de Santiago, hiked up 5000m high mountains, learned to speak Spanish, went scuba and freediving around the world and had many more beautiful experiences above and below the water. He is also a free-divng and yoga instructor. Heiko loves to be out in the blue of the ocean and enjoys sharing his passions as a guide by creating safe and unique experiences.

Rebecca was born and raised in New York City but has lived all around the world since 2004. After graduating from NYU in 2002 with B.A. in Economics & Psychology, Rebecca worked at investment banks in New York and Hong Kong as a trading assistant. A trip to Australia in 2005 changed her life completely – she learned to scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef and fell completely in love with diving. Two years later, she left the concrete jungle and trading floor for real jungles and sea floors.

She spent two months diving her way around the Philippines, three months on a marine conservation expedition in Madagascar and four months completing her Divemaster internship in Malaysia. Afterwards, life took an unexpected turn and she found herself living in Sweden for a year, where she discovered her love for sailing and life afloat. Still holding onto her dream to teach scuba and share the underwater world with others, she put her plans for sailing to the Caribbean on hold to become a PADI Instructor and has worked in Thailand, Hawaii and Indonesia. She loves life in the tropics, surrounded by water, nature and wildlife and thrives on sharing her passions with her guests.

Heiko and Rebecca met on Utila, Honduras while they were doing their Master Free-diver Course in 2015. Their love for the ocean, travel, exploration and discovery is what brought them into diving, and it is what has brought them into yachting.

They obtained their RYA Yachtmaster Offshore qualifications together in Gibraltar, sailing thousands of miles along the coasts of Spain, Portugal and Morocco, dodging the infamous orcas along the way.

They are passionate about providing a highly professional level of service in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere while creating the most memorable experiences for their guests. They love getting to know you and tailoring each charter to your preferences and desires, allowing you to kick back, relax and enjoy. With a deep love and respect for the natural world, they maintain a strong focus on environmentally aware hospitality and best practices to ensure minimal impact on the environment.

The food is a big part of your experience on board and you can expect to be well taken care of by this food-loving duo. You will be treated to a variety of breads and baked goods, freshly baked on board by Heiko, while Rebecca will take you on a culinary tour around the world, creating fresh, flavorful dishes inspired by her many years of travel and living in different countries. They are happy to cater to a variety of dietary requirements.

Felix is a 2015 Lagoon 52 with 4 spacious queen guest cabins. All guest cabins have en-suite electric heads with vanity and separate shower stalls. There is also a bunk cabin that offers two single berths and crew will swap out for a queen upon request. Felix has an abundance of natural lighting and ventilation throughout the yacht plus air-conditioning throughout. Each cabin can adjust the air-conditioning individually for optimal guest comfort. The yacht offers alfresco dining in the cockpit and will comfortably accommodate 8 guests at the table. The salon will also seat up to 8 guests for dining or just relaxing. There are plenty of options for sunbathing and multiple areas to avoid the midday sun is you so choose. The fly-bridge offers seating and lounge area with a 360-degree view and in addition there is a lounge area upfront behind the large trampolines. Whether you are looking for a fun family adventure or a Caribbean getaway with friends, Felix is perfect for you on the sailing trip of a lifetime!

Represented by DMA Yachting, the breathtaking charter yacht FELIX is a 52 ft sailing catamaran. The key elements of FELIX are her most appealing features and interconnection with the sea. FELIX spends the summer and winter season in Saint Barthélemy (St. Barts) . She was constructed by the renowned boatbuilder Lagoon in 2015. The spacious yacht layout features 5 large cabins and easily accommodates a group of 8 guests.

FELIX is presented primarily as a sailing catamaran. The the heart of the yacht is the main saloon, which connects to the aft deck. The aft deck is where heart of the yacht is and that's where most of the meals are served. The tastefully decorated cabins are connected by stairs to the main saloon - roomy, comfortable and pleasant. The cabins offer unbeatable views in the morning and are located just below deck. Multiple portholes connect you with the outside world.

MEET YOUR CREW FOR THE 2022/23 SEASON Zack and Taylor met under the sunny skies of the US Virgin Islands. While enjoying the last days of vacation in the islands, Taylor swam up to the stage at the famous Rock the Boat event and just happened to catch her eye on a handsome Captain Zack. They struck up a conversation that would open up a world of adventure and inspiration that continued beyond a simple vacation. Taylor then moved down to the islands in short order. They shared many adventures, island hopping, and discovering the hidden gems of the Caribbean. Then they hopped in Zack's camper van and drove around the US appreciating the modern American art form of craft beer moving from wild spaces to far off places. Growing up in Ohio doesn’t often evoke imagery of any medium required to place yourself in this position, but believe it or not there is water up there. Zack began boating as boy, on a little lake just outside of Cleveland. Here the tide began to turn on the rise of the ocean as the centerpiece of his life. His father taught him handling, and his mother taught him patience. Fast-forward past the “formative” years to the beginning of the wandering ones. Zack first began sailing in St Augustine, Florida 5 years ago on the Schooner Freedom. Coming from a service industry background, the transition to charter sailing was quite suitable. Learning to sail on a traditionally rigged vessel gave a great appreciation for the art of sailing and instilled a love for it that Zack applies to anything he does in or on the ocean. He also took his first dives during that time and became Open Water certified. After a couple years, Zack moved on to work with Lindblad Expeditions/National Geographic. As an immersive, high-end cruising operation, this world taught the ins and outs of liveaboard work and cruising to exceed the expectations of high end clientele. As a licensed deckhand Zack ran onshore and offshore expeditions in remote and wild areas, which gives a sense and awareness in exploring unique locales in a safe and enjoyable manner. It also brought him close to some amazing wildlife, geology, and oceanography, which has enhanced his knowledge base and ability to engage and educate clientele. This also allowed Zack to save up to complete his Divemaster course with PADI, which he did in Roatan, Honduras. Here he fell “deeper” in love with the ocean, exploring the wild and wonderful world of the reef. Wall dives, swim throughs, caves, and wrecks are his favorites…but anything under the ocean further drives the engine of passion. Following this Zack went on to run private charter sails in Bar Harbor, Maine, which gave him the experience of managing his own vessel and guest experiences. Working in these waters gave him an advanced appreciation for the magnificent forces of the ocean and a continued wonder for how this world has shaped itself through the ages. This will be Zack’s second season in the Caribbean. All of the experiences of a beautiful first year down here provide the knowledge base to help cultivate unique itineraries of adventure, relaxation, and wonder. Growing up in the small North Carolina town of Surf City by salty water has always been home and where Taylor’s passions for all things ocean blossomed. At a young age she was introduced to cooking, boating, and fishing. The love for all of those things just grew even stronger over time. Taylor got started in the kitchen early. During her younger years she always enjoyed being with her mother while she was cooking. She quickly picked up on things and started assisting. Not too long after that she was making family dinners herself. Taylor comes from a southern and Asian background that is full of tradition Her love for food and excitement was a catalyst to expand her knowledge in the culinary world that led to her working in many different types of restaurants for over a decade. Taylor’s main interest lies in preparing seafood dishes of many different sorts. While the kitchen was the heart of her home, the sea was her love. Boating and fishing became a key part of Taylor’s everyday life. She spent a lot of time with her dad fishing. They would travel about eighty miles offshore to the gulf. At the age or fourteen she acquired her boating license. She worked at the local marina in the summers cleaning and detailing boats allowing her to meet several fishermen in the area. She became a part time first-mate and would work for several different captains throughout her time off from school from spring to fall. Together they would day charter guests inshore and offshore to catch an array of different species. Taylor’s favorite part of the job was the adrenaline rush from the lines snapping from the outriggers and pulling in large tuna and dolphin. She acquired a specific set of skills that led to her toughest and longest fight reeling in a 450-pound marlin. Growing up around the water and in the boating world she learned a lot about how to properly maintain and take care of boats. Throughout life Taylor has built up lots of strengths and passions. Her mission is to make all who encounter her feel special and important. Taylor thrives from showing kindness, love, and compassion. All experiences are better with smiles, laughter, exceptional food, and memories that will last a lifetime.

There is also a bunk cabin that offers two single berths and crew will swap out for a queen upon request. Felix has an abundance of natural lighting and ventilation throughout the yacht plus air-conditioning throughout. Each cabin can adjust the air-conditioning individually for optimal guest comfort. MEET YOUR CREW FOR THE 2022/23 SEASON Zack and Taylor met under the sunny skies of the US Virgin Islands. While enjoying the last days of vacation in the islands, Taylor swam up to the stage at the famous Rock the Boat event and just happened to catch her eye on a handsome Captain Zack. They struck up a conversation that would open up a world of adventure and inspiration that continued beyond a simple vacation. Taylor then moved down to the islands in short order. They shared many adventures, island hopping, and discovering the hidden gems of the Caribbean. Then they hopped in Zack's camper van and drove around the US appreciating the modern American art form of craft beer moving from wild spaces to far off places. Growing up in Ohio doesn’t often evoke imagery of any medium required to place yourself in this position, but believe it or not there is water up there. Zack began boating as boy, on a little lake just outside of Cleveland. Here the tide began to turn on the rise of the ocean as the centerpiece of his life. His father taught him handling, and his mother taught him patience. Fast-forward past the “formative” years to the beginning of the wandering ones. Zack first began sailing in St Augustine, Florida 5 years ago on the Schooner Freedom. Coming from a service industry background, the transition to charter sailing was quite suitable. Learning to sail on a traditionally rigged vessel gave a great appreciation for the art of sailing and instilled a love for it that Zack applies to anything he does in or on the ocean. He also took his first dives during that time and became Open Water certified. After a couple years, Zack moved on to work with Lindblad Expeditions/National Geographic. As an immersive, high-end cruising operation, this world taught the ins and outs of liveaboard work and cruising to exceed the expectations of high end clientele. As a licensed deckhand Zack ran onshore and offshore expeditions in remote and wild areas, which gives a sense and awareness in exploring unique locales in a safe and enjoyable manner. It also brought him close to some amazing wildlife, geology, and oceanography, which has enhanced his knowledge base and ability to engage and educate clientele. This also allowed Zack to save up to complete his Divemaster course with PADI, which he did in Roatan, Honduras. Here he fell “deeper” in love with the ocean, exploring the wild and wonderful world of the reef. Wall dives, swim throughs, caves, and wrecks are his favorites…but anything under the ocean further drives the engine of passion. Following this Zack went on to run private charter sails in Bar Harbor, Maine, which gave him the experience of managing his own vessel and guest experiences. Working in these waters gave him an advanced appreciation for the magnificent forces of the ocean and a continued wonder for how this world has shaped itself through the ages. This will be Zack’s second season in the Caribbean. All of the experiences of a beautiful first year down here provide the knowledge base to help cultivate unique itineraries of adventure, relaxation, and wonder. Growing up in the small North Carolina town of Surf City by salty water has always been home and where Taylor’s passions for all things ocean blossomed. At a young age she was introduced to cooking, boating, and fishing. The love for all of those things just grew even stronger over time. Taylor got started in the kitchen early. During her younger years she always enjoyed being with her mother while she was cooking. She quickly picked up on things and started assisting. Not too long after that she was making family dinners herself. Taylor comes from a southern and Asian background that is full of tradition Her love for food and excitement was a catalyst to expand her knowledge in the culinary world that led to her working in many different types of restaurants for over a decade. Taylor’s main interest lies in preparing seafood dishes of many different sorts. While the kitchen was the heart of her home, the sea was her love. Boating and fishing became a key part of Taylor’s everyday life. She spent a lot of time with her dad fishing. They would travel about eighty miles offshore to the gulf. At the age or fourteen she acquired her boating license. She worked at the local marina in the summers cleaning and detailing boats allowing her to meet several fishermen in the area. She became a part time first-mate and would work for several different captains throughout her time off from school from spring to fall. Together they would day charter guests inshore and offshore to catch an array of different species. Taylor’s favorite part of the job was the adrenaline rush from the lines snapping from the outriggers and pulling in large tuna and dolphin. She acquired a specific set of skills that led to her toughest and longest fight reeling in a 450-pound marlin. Growing up around the water and in the boating world she learned a lot about how to properly maintain and take care of boats. Throughout life Taylor has built up lots of strengths and passions. Her mission is to make all who encounter her feel special and important. Taylor thrives from showing kindness, love, and compassion. All experiences are better with smiles, laughter, exceptional food, and memories that will last a lifetime.

Atlantic Crossing with a Catalac 10M Part 3

What a difference it makes to sail downwind!! As we drew closer to the island, we had the current with us and made 7 to 10 kn consistantly over ground with the mainsail still in the second reef and the Genoa only half out. Our new destination would be St. Laurent du Maroni. This small city is located on the French side of the border river Maroni between French Guayana and Suriname. In all rivers on this side of the Atlantic strong tidal currents occur and it makes no sense to enter the river with the water flowing out. In addition, the buoyage is not reliable and in most cases unlit. All calculation couldn’t change it, we would arrive at the river entry in the middle of the night and the tidal current would stand against us. Thus, we decided to anchor in front of the river entry and enter the river in the first daylight and with inflowing water. 

From the moment on, we decided for our new destination, sailing was smooth and relaxed again and the sea, which changed in the meanwhile the color from deep blue to dirty brown, was quite calm again and so we thought we could expect a quiet night and could sleep for a few hours when anchoring. When anchoring, normally I am on the foreboat and operate the electric windlass while Sven is at the helm. As soon as I prepared the anchor and the first meters of chain were released to the sea weather changed rapidly. The foreboat jumped up and down and I had trouble to hold on. We anchored on 9 m and let over 40 m chain out. Unfortunately, I got seasick again. Sven cleaned up a little and we both laid down on our couch and tried to sleep for a short while. The anchor held without problems, what we always check with an app for our smartphone which records the GPS position. But the weather got more and more uncomfortable, it was pitch dark and the wind reached over 30 kt. Besides, it rained cats and dogs and the sky was illuminated every 30 seconds by lightning. Anyhow, we slept a few hours. Eight hours later, in the early morning of the 31st of Mai 2014 it had enough light again to lift the anchor and motor towards the river entry.

On course, we had the wind from astern again and the movements of the boat was smooth again and not comparable to the hard smashing of the bow into the 1.5 m high waves in the night at anchor. During the entire Atlantic crossing absolutely nothing fell off the table but in the short time of anchoring it happened for the first time. Finally, we could identify the flat land against the background of the cloudy sky. Land, ho! The first fairway buoy was soon visible and we sailed under Genoa only and with the tidal current with us into the calm water of the Maroni River. Our instruments showed us now a sea temperature of 34°C, which increased continuously during the Atlantic crossing from 21°C in Las Palmas.

The scenery was awesome. We had the tropical rain forest to both sides. The rich green colors were fascinating, especially after two weeks of only blue. Already while cruising along the river I was able to clean up the boat a little bit and to clean the interior from the salt film which was on every surface. In addition, I prepared dough for pizza as we had a great deal of hunger. In the next rain shower we took a shower by ourselves and were very lucky to get rid of the salt on our skin. From far we then saw already 3 yachts on the anchorage right before the town. There we dropped our anchor as well. Finally, we did arrive!

We enjoyed our pizza and slept long in the next few days on the calm anchorage without waves and much wind. For the Atlantic crossing we needed 14 days, which translates in a mean velocity over ground of 5.7 kt. We consumed 35 l diesel, most of it for the long passage into the river as we could sail inside the river only the first few miles. We now already got used to the tropical climate. We collect the rainwater using the short bimini of our boat and keep our water tanks full although we make extended use of our deck shower.

From here we plan to go to Suriname and at the end of the hurricane season in late November to Tobago and then Grenada. From there we head north and are going to visit the Caribbean Islands step by step. We plan to spend the next hurricane season in Trinidad and after we are going to head north again to the Caribbean. We are planning to spend the next years on the boat and then most probably we will have to sell it and go back to Germany. However, we will see what happens in real life! To conclude, we are very satisfied with our Felix. He is built very strong and can handle a whole lot, by all means more than we can, as we think. We had gained a lot of weight before the Atlantic crossing, although Felix sailed still very well. Anyhow, we did notice that he is more agile and goes lighter over the waves on courses close to the wind when water and diesel tanks are not too full and not too much loading is on board. But this is generally the case for catamarans. But, as already mentioned, what we like most is the space the boat provides for its size and especially the high amount of light and ventilation.

Even here in the tropical climate the boat is never muggy. For our understanding the vessel is well designed and has optimum conditions for a small crew, especially for a couple, particularly the version with the extended kitchen and not the dog berth in the starboard hull. The guest room with its two separate beds allows easily accommodating guests. There is stowage more than necessary and still things are in reach easily. After 6000 miles, over one year living aboard and an Atlantic crossing us both agree that this vessel fits us very well and we would buy a Catalac 10M again at anytime. However, one should spell out that this boat is not a racing machine but a solid cruiser which is easy to handle even by a small crew. Its main advantage, however, is his comfort of living and we all know how much time a cruiser spends on sailing and how much time at anchor or in the marina.
