5. ACCOMMODATIONS

SIMARON’s covered aft deck is comfortably furnished with a settee and four plush cherry wood folding chairs. The stair to the swim platform is on the starboard side with access to the lazarette and engine room. The swim platform is ideal for tender boarding and where all watersports are launched.

• The main salon is entered from the aft-deck on centerline, via hinged double doors, opening to the entertaining area with oversize windows port and starboard for stunning views. The open arrangement, with couch, end tables, cocktail table and further comfortable seating invites relaxing interaction with the elegantly casual motif set amidst contrasting quarter-sawn cherry and madrone burl wood joinerwork. Opposite the seating area is a custom-built cabinet containing the front channel speakers of the surround sound system as well as a 47” H-D flat screen TV on an automatic lift. Forward of this cabinet is a matching custom-built game table with two very comfortable cushioned arm chairs.
• The open dining area adjoins forward of the salon, with a round dining table for six guests. On both port and starboard sides are beautiful marble topped, empire-style, custom-built cabinets containing full sets of Hermes La Siesta dinnerware, silverware and stemware. Forward to starboard is a bar cabinet with a clear-ice maker and 20-bottle wine fridge.
• The galley is on the port side of the main deck forward of the dining area, with a Dakota Mahogany granite-topped wrap-around counter and island that comfortably seat four on modern leather upholstered bar-height stools. The galley can be left open or cleverly concealed from guests with cherrywood recessed-paneled bi-fold doors. Gourmet fixtures and appliances abound in this galley that also features huge windows both port and starboard—a chef’s dream. Opposite the galley is a curved stairway, lined with recessed cherrywood paneling leading down to the elegant stateroom foyer. Just forward of this stairway on the main deck level is the day-head with illuminated Lalique glass sink/fixtures.
• Forward of the galley is the pilothouse that has recently upgraded with new navigation equipment and a comfortable leather upholstered settee with a cherrywood topped table. Additionally, there is a smoked glass cabinet housing A/V equipment and there are entry doors on both port and starboard sides of the pilothouse providing access to the full walk-around side decks. Aft and to starboard, there is a very generous stairway to the flybridge.

MASTER SUITE

• Entered through rounded double doors, SIMARON features a full-beam master suite forward on the lower deck with king bed, large his/hers cedar-lined closet storage, a desk with vanity, ample dresser drawers both port and starboard, entertainment system and opening/adjustable cherrywood shutters over all the windows to further enhance the beauty of the stateroom. The ensuite fully marble-lined master bathroom has a large steam room with rain shower on the starboard side and a separate bathroom on the port side.

GUEST CABINS

• Below deck are two elegant guest staterooms, one with twin beds and the other with a queen bed. Both have ensuite bathrooms with high level finishes and luxurious marble work throughout. All staterooms have individual entertainment systems, individual A/C controls and safes for guest security.
• The flybridge is always a favorite area to lounge, sunbathe, dine and arrive into ports in style. The hardtop covered, isinglass enclosed flybridge boasts a complete navigation console with wing stations both port and starboard. On centerline is a Stidd captain’s chair. A forward-facing cushioned settee for two or three are positioned both port and starboard with storage beneath. Aft, on the centerline is a full bar with fridge, icemaker, sink and three upholstered bar stools. On both outboard sides are large cabinets containing storage for barware, dinnerware, silverware and a full compliment of appliances including a dishwasher. Aft of this area to port, is a dining area comfortably seating eight and to starboard is additional seating for six with a coffee table.

CAPTAIN & CREW

SIMARON can accommodate up to three crew in two cabins, including a Captain’s cabin and 1 additional crew over/under berth. The crew quarters includes a bathroom and contains a stack laundry.

Aft is a stairway leading down to the after quarters. Adjacent to the steps is an enclosed storage space to starboard. At the base of the steps is a slider access to the head on the starboards side. Inboard forward is a counter with a sink. There is an enclosed storage space below and a medicine cabinet forward. Outboard is a hinged access to a large stand-up showe. Outboard is a marine toilet and above outboard is enclosed storage with an open shelf. There is a door aft which leads to the starboard stateroom. In the passageway to starboard is an access door to the stateroom. Forward outboard is a large hanging/storage locker. Aft inboard and outboard are single fore and aft berths with drawers below. Outboard is an open pigeonhole storage area with an open counter above. Adjacent to that on the port side is a door leading to the port stateroom. There is a single fore and aft berth inboard and outboard forward with a nightstand on center forward with drawers. There is an open counter above outboard. Aft outboard is hinged access door to hanging/storage locker. Aft is a hinged door leading to the head. Inboard is a counter with a sink with enclosed storage below and a medicine cabinet above that. Aft on center is the forward door leading to the stand-up shower.

Forward below are the quarters for the crew. Forward on center is a hinged access to the shower. On the forward bulkhead is a watertight hatch for access to the chain locker. Aft on the port side is a counter with a sink on center with enclosed storage below and outboard with an open shelf above. On the starboard side is a marine toilet mounted on a platform with enclosed storage outoard and an open counter above. Forward above on either side is ahinged access to storage. Entering the aftdeck/salon from the cockpit one finds an expansive and bright living area with all creature comforts to include air conditioning, wetbar, refrigeration and ice maker, flatscreen television, leather settee and lounge, teak parquet flooring, and fully enclosed with glass for excellent ambient lighting. Teak wing doors provide access to the side decks both port and starboard. Port and starboard teak pilothouse doors with integrated bi-folding screen doors offer additional access to the side decks from the pilothouse which is located just forward of the salon/aftdeck. Access to the flybridge is offered from the port side of the pilothouse via a teak ladder. Continuing forward from the pilothouse and down three steps, the lower salon affords additional entertaining/lounging area for owners and guests. Along the aft bulkhead in the lower salon houses a custom chest of drawers and additional entertainment/AV accessories. Moving forward and to port of the lower salon, the galley is expansive and includes all the modern appliances and conveniences of home. All appliances are full sized and the area is large enough to prepare gourmet meals for owners and guests. Continuing forward from the galley the crew/guest area includes a crew/guest stateroom, a small dinette, and utility area, head and shower, as well as access to the utility and engine room.

The main living quarters are accessed from the companionway at the aft bulkhead of the lower salon. The guest stateroom is located amidships to port and includes twin berths. Adjacent to the guest stateroom is the guest head which serves as the day head for entertaining. Continuing aft the full beam master stateroom is enormous and includes storage ample enough for extended cruising and liveaboard usage. Total accommodations include three staterooms and three heads which sleeps six comfortably with additional accommodation available via the settees in the lower and main salon.

CHECKERS offers three guest staterooms, all with ensuite heads as well as a Captain's cabin with upper/lower berths. The full-beam Owner’s suite is located amidship, accessed via a private stairway from the main salon. There is a centerline king-sized bed flanked by bedside cabinets and reading lamps. Facing the berth is the built-in entertainment center including an HD TV and surround sound amplifier. Twin cedar-lined, walk-in closets are aft to port and starboard with built-in bureaus forward with abundant storage. Forward is the full-beam head and a large marble-lined shower with a multi-head shower array and steam room feature. Twin under-mounted sinks with marble countertops have plenty of additional storage beneath. A separate full-size stacked washer and dryer is built into a laundry cabinet in the master head.

The guest staterooms and Captain's cabin are accessed by a stairway from the pilothouse each with ensuite heads. The forward stateroom has a centerline queen berth. Aft to port is an ensuite head with a marble-lined shower. To starboard is a cedar-lined hanging locker. Aft starboard is the VIP guest cabin, also with a queen bed, cedar-lined hanging locker, and an ensuite head with a marble-lined shower. Opposite to port is the Captain's cabin furnished with upper and lower berths, cedar-lined hanging closet, and a large ensuite head with a marble-lined shower. All staterooms are furnished with HD TVs as well as stereo speakers. In the foyer area between the staterooms is a laundry center with a stacked Bosch washer and dryer.

The main deck features full walk­around side decks with a teak sole. The foredeck provides ample working area for docking and anchoring. There is a bow roller with an easily deployed stainless steel Bruce anchor. A bow seat is built into the forward end of the trunk cabin with storage beneath the seats. Additional bosun storage behind the bow seat can be accessed from the port or starboard side decks with ample room for fenders, lines, ladders, and cleaning equipment.

Aft from the galley, the main salon opens to a large and welcoming expanse of beautiful woodwork and custom-built furnishings. Large windows along both sides and across the aft bulkhead provide panoramic viewing while underway and allow for maximum natural light. There are concealed drop-down electronically controlled silhouette shades for all windows, ensuring privacy and sun protection as desired.

Forward to port, in the main salon, is the custom Makoré dining table with exquisite woodwork inlay. Six matching chairs comfortably surround the round table. Opposite to starboard is the built­ in wet bar with marble countertops and an under mounted, sink. Built in below are storage lockers, a wine cooler, and a ice maker.

Aft in the main salon features a custom sofa with integrated storage, a chair, and a coffee table. To port, aft of the stairway to the owners' suite is the built-in entertainment center housing the vessel's primary audio and video equipment including a large HD flatscreen that lowers out of sight when not in use.

Opposite to port from the galley is the day head which also has a large window outboard with privacy curtains. The day head is exceptionally spacious and features marble countertop with matching, marble tile flooring and electric blinds.

Aft from the pilothouse is the U-shaped galley with granite countertops and abundant storage above and below. There is a large window outboard to port, above the sink.

The forward pilothouse is accessed by sliding doors to port and starboard. There is excellent visibility through five, tempered glass windows forward, each with windshield washers and wipers. There is a single, Stidd adjustable chair at the helm and an L­-shaped bench seat aft with a pedestal-mounted table in front. The helm console has been updated with new, glass bridge technology featuring five multi­function display monitors.

The flybridge stairway is on the starboard side of the pilothouse, protected by a one-piece, weather tight sliding hatch. There is an adjustable Stidd chair at the centerline helm with a built-in bench seat to port. Port and starboard wing stations have full controls for gears, throttles, bow thruster, and jog steering with rudder angle indicators. There are two Furuno 15" NavNet TZ2 display monitors.

Aft of the flybridge helm area to starboard is a Keynon grill flanked by storage cabinets and a flush mounted sink. Opposite to port is a matching cabinet housing a Sub-Zero refrigerator and Hoshizaki high capacity ice maker. Aft, on both sides, are matching L­shaped bench seats with storage beneath and pedestal mounted custom teak tables at each corner. A walk­through between the bench seats leads to the aft boat deck area sun pad with custom sail shade.

The aft deck offers al fresco dining at a pedestal mounted table with a built­in bench seat aft and pull up chairs. There is a single door in the aft bulkhead for access to the main salon. A gate in the transom railing to starboard provides access to the swim platform. There are boarding gates to port and starboard from the aft deck, as well as from the side deck midship.

The engine room is sound insulated and accessed from the swim platform through a watertight bulkhead and from the inside of the vessel opposite the master stateroom, through a watertight bulkhead door. The engine room is full width with full, stand­up headroom. As with most Burgers, the engine room is a stunning exhibit of engineering at its best. All equipment and valves are labeled in proper marine fashion. In 2011, two new Caterpillar C­32 engines were installed.

• wpcf_other_entertainment: <p>CHECKERS offers three guest staterooms, all with ensuite heads as well as a Captain's cabin with upper/lower berths. The full-beam Owner’s suite is located amidship, accessed via a private stairway from the main salon. There is a centerline king-sized bed flanked by bedside cabinets and reading lamps. Facing the berth is the built-in entertainment center including an HD TV and surround sound amplifier. Twin cedar-lined, walk-in closets are aft to port and starboard with built-in bureaus forward with abundant storage. Forward is the full-beam head and a large marble-lined shower with a multi-head shower array and steam room feature. Twin under-mounted sinks with marble countertops have plenty of additional storage beneath. A separate full-size stacked washer and dryer is built into a laundry cabinet in the master head.</p> <p> </p> <p>The guest staterooms and Captain's cabin are accessed by a stairway from the pilothouse each with ensuite heads. The forward stateroom has a centerline queen berth. Aft to port is an ensuite head with a marble-lined shower. To starboard is a cedar-lined hanging locker. Aft starboard is the VIP guest cabin, also with a queen bed, cedar-lined hanging locker, and an ensuite head with a marble-lined shower. Opposite to port is the Captain's cabin furnished with upper and lower berths, cedar-lined hanging closet, and a large ensuite head with a marble-lined shower. All staterooms are furnished with HD TVs as well as stereo speakers. In the foyer area between the staterooms is a laundry center with a stacked Bosch washer and dryer.</p><p>The main deck features full walk­around side decks with a teak sole. The foredeck provides ample working area for docking and anchoring. There is a bow roller with an easily deployed stainless steel Bruce anchor. A bow seat is built into the forward end of the trunk cabin with storage beneath the seats. Additional bosun storage behind the bow seat can be accessed from the port or starboard side decks with ample room for fenders, lines, ladders, and cleaning equipment.</p><p>Aft from the galley, the main salon opens to a large and welcoming expanse of beautiful woodwork and custom-built furnishings. Large windows along both sides and across the aft bulkhead provide panoramic viewing while underway and allow for maximum natural light. There are concealed drop-down electronically controlled silhouette shades for all windows, ensuring privacy and sun protection as desired.</p> <p> </p> <p>Forward to port, in the main salon, is the custom Makoré dining table with exquisite woodwork inlay. Six matching chairs comfortably surround the round table. Opposite to starboard is the built­ in wet bar with marble countertops and an under mounted, sink. Built in below are storage lockers, a wine cooler, and a ice maker.</p> <p> </p> <p>Aft in the main salon features a custom sofa with integrated storage, a chair, and a coffee table. To port, aft of the stairway to the owners' suite is the built-in entertainment center housing the vessel's primary audio and video equipment including a large HD flatscreen that lowers out of sight when not in use.</p> <p> </p> <p>Opposite to port from the galley is the day head which also has a large window outboard with privacy curtains. The day head is exceptionally spacious and features marble countertop with matching, marble tile flooring and electric blinds.</p><p>Aft from the pilothouse is the U-shaped galley with granite countertops and abundant storage above and below. There is a single, Stidd adjustable chair at the helm and an L­-shaped bench seat aft with a pedestal-mounted table in front. The helm console has been updated with new, glass bridge technology featuring five multi­function display monitors.</p> <p> </p><p>The flybridge stairway is on the starboard side of the pilothouse, protected by a one-piece, weather tight sliding hatch. There is an adjustable Stidd chair at the centerline helm with a built-in bench seat to port. Port and starboard wing stations have full controls for gears, throttles, bow thruster, and jog steering with rudder angle indicators. There are two Furuno 15" NavNet TZ2 display monitors.</p> <p> </p> <p>Aft of the flybridge helm area to starboard is a Keynon grill flanked by storage cabinets and a flush mounted sink. Opposite to port is a matching cabinet housing a Sub-Zero refrigerator and Hoshizaki high capacity ice maker. Aft, on both sides, are matching L­shaped bench seats with storage beneath and pedestal mounted custom teak tables at each corner. There is a centerline king-sized bed flanked by bedside cabinets and reading lamps. Facing the berth is the built-in entertainment center including an HD TV and surround sound amplifier. Twin cedar-lined, walk-in closets are aft to port and starboard with built-in bureaus forward with abundant storage. Forward is the full-beam head and a large marble-lined shower with a multi-head shower array and steam room feature. Twin under-mounted sinks with marble countertops have plenty of additional storage beneath. A separate full-size stacked washer and dryer is built into a laundry cabinet in the master head.</p> <p> </p> <p>The guest staterooms and Captain's cabin are accessed by a stairway from the pilothouse each with ensuite heads. The forward stateroom has a centerline queen berth. Aft to port is an ensuite head with a marble-lined shower. To starboard is a cedar-lined hanging locker. Aft starboard is the VIP guest cabin, also with a queen bed, cedar-lined hanging locker, and an ensuite head with a marble-lined shower. Opposite to port is the Captain's cabin furnished with upper and lower berths, cedar-lined hanging closet, and a large ensuite head with a marble-lined shower. All staterooms are furnished with HD TVs as well as stereo speakers. In the foyer area between the staterooms is a laundry center with a stacked Bosch washer and dryer.</p><p>The main deck features full walk­around side decks with a teak sole. The foredeck provides ample working area for docking and anchoring. There is a bow roller with an easily deployed stainless steel Bruce anchor. A bow seat is built into the forward end of the trunk cabin with storage beneath the seats. Additional bosun storage behind the bow seat can be accessed from the port or starboard side decks with ample room for fenders, lines, ladders, and cleaning equipment.</p><p>Aft from the galley, the main salon opens to a large and welcoming expanse of beautiful woodwork and custom-built furnishings. Large windows along both sides and across the aft bulkhead provide panoramic viewing while underway and allow for maximum natural light. There are concealed drop-down electronically controlled silhouette shades for all windows, ensuring privacy and sun protection as desired.</p> <p> </p> <p>Forward to port, in the main salon, is the custom Makoré dining table with exquisite woodwork inlay. Six matching chairs comfortably surround the round table. Opposite to starboard is the built­ in wet bar with marble countertops and an under mounted, sink. Built in below are storage lockers, a wine cooler, and a ice maker.</p> <p> </p> <p>Aft in the main salon features a custom sofa with integrated storage, a chair, and a coffee table. To port, aft of the stairway to the owners' suite is the built-in entertainment center housing the vessel's primary audio and video equipment including a large HD flatscreen that lowers out of sight when not in use.</p> <p> </p> <p>Opposite to port from the galley is the day head which also has a large window outboard with privacy curtains. The day head is exceptionally spacious and features marble countertop with matching, marble tile flooring and electric blinds.</p><p>Aft from the pilothouse is the U-shaped galley with granite countertops and abundant storage above and below. Hello! About a handful of us located into Florida have been looking to get into bigger boats and have a shared liveaboard/Airbnb, with maybe a couple of trips to the Bahamas and what not a year together. We have our eyes on a 1970 Burger Flush deck orginally 67ft, now about 74.5ft, "Kamelot" or originally named "Garbo" (owned by Greta Garbo). https://www.**************/yacht/1970-burger-74-flush-deck-motoryacht-8788171/ We are drawn to it's history, and with a good survey, costs to finish some things, along with the understanding of maintenance to the hull we hope to hang onto it for some time. Interior wise how it looks from the photos would be easy for us. Engine wise collectively we have experience. My main concern would be with the aluminum hull. The boats I have owned were fiberglass. The company that did the extension on the boat seems reputable for how long they've been around (derektor I believe?). In my opinion that would be a spot to definitely look major damage, if any. Also, just a thought since it looks like the floors that are missing some planks would appear to be where the engine hatches are? Am I correct? Would I be safe to assume they were opened for some sort of work that needs finishing? Hopefully someone here has been on this Burger, or could give some advice on it. Could someone reference a good surveyor in the Bridgeport Connecticut area with experience on these boats? Somewhat of the plan would be to get the boat seaworthy up there and have it delivered down to Jacksonville temporarily to finish things manageable for us, eventually taking it to the Port Canaveral area. Those look like US Marshal stickers to me. This boat is definitely a project, as the price reflects. My guess is that the price reflects that you would need to put multiples of the purchase price into the boat. I'd suggest giving Chris Daves a call, and ask him for his best guess as to what it really needs. If that doesn't scare you away, grab a cheap flight up to look for yourself before investing any real $ into hiring a surveyor. The state of the engines, plumbing, and wiring would be of greater concern than the aluminum. But if you do go up to look for yourself, spend some time looking in at any hull plate/frames you can access, and look into the hard-to-see areas for signs of corrosion (look for white powder or a gooey gel).

There are a couple similar Burgers in FL (here’s one - https://www.**************/yacht/1965-burger-78'-cockpit-flybridge-motor-yacht-8895397/ ) in significantly better condition. I’d go down that route and save a lot of time/headaches

If I am understanding things correctly this will be joint venture amongst more than 2 people. In theory this can work but in reality I think the chance of success (being defined as 80% of the owners are happy with the arraignment after a year or more) is slim at best. I foresee lots of disagreement on how the money is spent on the restoration, management of the boat post restoration, etc. I get it, in a perfect world it makes sense to spread the cost of the boat over a few owners since most of us don’t use our boats nearly as much as we want seeing them sitting in their slips empty more than they are out cruising or being lived aboard. Also I think the airbnb concept doesn’t work well with boats. Much too complicated for the average homeowner to deal with. I love old burgers and have no comments on the boat but the concept to me has a slim chance of working regardless of the boat chosen.

Shared ownership of a boat...hmmm....I was once told by someone far more intelligent than I am....partnerships are for lonely people. Best to avoid them.

That being said, the Sparkman Burger is a terrific layout, and the cockpit will add to the range and upgrade the ride. Don't think the path will be cheap, and don't rely on partners to participate nicely. But she's a beautiful boat as a project. I suggested to Burger a few years ago that they should be out there rehabbing their own as newish.

I used to enjoy watching Huckins rebuild one of their oldies. They still have the drawings, plans and build notes on near all hulls they ever built.

Entering the aftdeck/salon from the cockpit one finds an expansive and bright living area with all creature comforts to include air conditioning, wetbar, refrigeration and ice maker, flatscreen television, leather settee and lounge, teak parquet flooring, and fully enclosed with glass for excellent ambient lighting. Teak wing doors provide access to the side decks both port and starboard. Port and starboard teak pilothouse doors with integrated bi-folding screen doors offer additional access to the side decks from the pilothouse which is located just forward of the salon/aftdeck. Access to the flybridge is offered from the port side of the pilothouse via a teak ladder. Continuing forward from the pilothouse and down three steps, the lower salon affords additional entertaining/lounging area for owners and guests. Along the aft bulkhead in the lower salon houses a custom chest of drawers and additional entertainment/AV accessories. Moving forward and to port of the lower salon, the galley is expansive and includes all the modern appliances and conveniences of home.  All appliances are full sized and the area is large enough to prepare gourmet meals for owners and guests. Continuing forward from the galley the crew/guest area includes a crew/guest stateroom, a small dinette, and utility area, head and shower, as well as access to the utility and engine room.

The main living quarters are accessed from the companionway at the aft bulkhead of the lower salon. The guest stateroom is located amidships to port and includes twin berths. Adjacent to the guest stateroom is the guest head which serves as the day head for entertaining. Continuing aft the full beam master stateroom is enormous and includes storage ample enough for extended cruising and liveaboard usage. Total accommodations include three staterooms and three heads which sleeps six comfortably with additional accommodation available via the settees in the lower and main salon.

Starting forward are twin teak wing doors with new wood blinds accessing the side decks. A full bulkhead between the wing doors separates this area from the forward Pilothouse. A teak and glass door in the bulkhead gives access to the Pilothouse. Centerline forward is a teak wet bar and cabinet housing a refrigerator, pull out glass and bottle storage on teak shelves, a Whirlpool Clear Ice icemaker and a stainless steel bar sink. All of the above are hidden behind recessed panel teak cabinet doors. Above is a large glass panel providing aft visibility from the Pilothouse. An etching of the yacht's profile has been sandblasted into the glass panel.  The sole of this area is a teak plank finished to perfection in a golden matte color. Furniture in the Salon includes a leather nail head three cushion sofa to port, a matching large chair and ottoman and a teak steamer trunk coffee table with storage within. Between the sofa and chair is an end table. The aft end of the sofa has a reading light. To starboard is a matching loveseat, and a reading lamp. Across the aft bulkhead are teak cabinets port and starboard. The starboard quarter has a flatscreen TV, a DVD player and one air handler for the Salon. To port is a storage cabinet and the other SMX controlled air handler for the Salon. Centerline is the sliding door to the Cockpit. Also in the Salon are five large brass dimmable overhead lights, three dimmable mini spots over the bar, two stereo speakers with volume control and an area rug with matching mats in the main entryways. The side windows slide open and are covered with Hunter Douglas golden oak real wood blinds. The electric fixtures are upgraded Viamar fixtures. On both the port and starboard sides of the Salon there is an attractive teak wainscoating under the windows.

A large sectional settee is located to port. Adjacent to starboard is the entertainment center to include a 65 inch flat panel display. On the aft bulkhead is a chest of five drawers with bamboo trim, a countertop and two bamboo and cane panel cabinets housing this area's entertainment electronics. They consist of a 19" Mitsubishi TV, a Sony SRTDE197 stereo receiver and a Pioneer PD-F908 100 disc CD changer. Outboard is a full size locker with two shelves within. On both the port and starboard side are large storage lockers that extend under the wide side decks. Forward is a lighted pass through to the Galley with cabinet access above. Overhead are ten dimmable mini spot lights and two stereo speakers. The windows crank down with screens that follow in true Burger style.

The Galley is located forward of the Dining Salon and at the same deck level. This is not the typical Galley down cruiser arrangement. The area is full beam except for the passageway to the Forward Guest/Crew Stateroom. The sole is varnished teak parquet. The Galley is U-shaped from the port side with additional pantry storage to starboard. The counters are Corian and the cabinets have all been updated to a cane panel front. Overhead is a vinyl headliner with three overhead lights. All appliances were new in 1997.

Laundry EQUIPMENT ROOM: Just forward of the Engine Room is an Equipment Room housing the yacht's Frigidair Gallery clothes dryer, several storage shelves and storage cabinets for the yacht's spares. This area is carpeted and well lit with two fluorescent lights and two incandescent lights.

Lounge Down and forward four steps from the Galley is the Forward Lounge. Originally a Crew Lounge, the present owners do not utilize crew. The washing machine is in this area to starboard. The Frigidaire Gallery dryer is just aft in the companionway to the Engine Room.  To port is a two person dinette with a white laminate table. Above are two teak cabinets. Below the dinette are four storage drawers. The entrance to the Engine Room and Equipment Room is aft from this area. A large storage hold is located below the sole. Above are rod holders, DC lighting and 110V track lighting. This area is presently used as a small office and is perfectly suited as such.

Forward Guest Stateroom Starting in the fore peak is the shower with stainless steel shower pan, access to the rope locker, a DC light and Kholer fixtures for the shower. Next aft to starboard are two shelves and three drawers. Immediately aft are two bunks. Above the upper bunk are two opening portholes with curtains. Each berth has a reading light. Below the lower berth are four storage drawers. To starboard starting forward is a large hanging locker with a gun rack inside. Overhead is an escape hatch with fold down steps. Next aft is the Head with Galley Maid electric toilet connected to a Galley Maid "Delta" Coast Guard approved treatment system, four shelves for linen storage, a mirrored medicine cabinet, a stainless steel wash basin and a painted laminate countertop. Below is a storage cabinet in the vanity. Also in the Head is a vinyl sole, an auto flush timer for the head and AC and DC lighting.

Amidship Guest Stateroom Just aft of the Dining Salon and down five steps is the Guest Cabin on the portside of the yacht. Unusually large, there are twin bunks with two drawers under each berth. Between is a four drawer nightstand with Corian top. Wood headboards and a Corian shelf outboard contrast well with the dark blue textured wall covering. Above the berths is a white wood bookshelf.  Forward are twin full size hanging lockers with auto lights and louvered wood doors. Between the lockers is a four drawer chest of drawers with a Corian top and porthole style mirror above. There is a full size dressing mirror behind the door. Large portholes with screens and drapes are outboard. Also in this cabin are pewter reading lights, a table lamp, stereo speakers, a TV outlet, a telephone and SMX A/C controls. Across the companionway is the private Guest Head which also serves as the Day Head. It includes a white tile sole, an upgraded china Galley Maid head with a Galley Maid auto flush timer connected to a Galley Maid "Delta" Coast Guard approved treatment system. The vanity has two cabinet doors below a Corian counter with molded sink with a three sided mirror above the sink. The shower has a stainless steel pan, clear glass door, Corian walls and overhead and white Moen fixtures. The head also has an exhaust fan, opening screened porthole with Hunter Douglas wood blinds and a Corian shelf behind the toilet. The sliding screened porthole has Hunter Douglas wood blinds.

Master Stateroom On centerline in the large Master Stateroom is a king size pedestal berth with two large drawers at the foot of the berth. To both port and starboard are nightstands with two drawers and an access panel below the drawers. To both port and starboard on the outboard bulkheads are eight drawers each side. The tops are Corian counters. Above the Corian counter are two opening screened portholes with drapes on both the port and starboard sides. On the aft bulkhead are twin swing arm brass lamps. Centerline is artwork with a brass light covering the emergency escape hatch to the Lazarette. Located on both port and starboard sides forward there are two huge door hanging lockers with auto lights. The starboard side has a safe within. On the forward bulkhead is a built-in bookcase. Below are eight cabinet doors for storage. The TV sound plays through the overhead stereo speakers. Also in this cabin are SMX controls, DC and AC lighting as well as the entrance the en-suite head. The Master Stateroom Head is forward to starboard and has a white tile sole, and an upgraded Galley Maid ceramic toilet with auto flush connected to a Galley Maid "Delta" Coast Guard approved treatment system. Behind the toilet are two cabinets doors serving as the medicine cabinet. The vanity has three cabinet doors below and a molded sink in the Corian countertop above. The outboard and aft sides are all mirrored with built-in lights and make up mirror. The full size tub has a clear glass sliding enclosure, Corian walls and ceiling, a hand held or wall mountable fixture and an exhaust fan. The lighting is both AC and DC. A sliding screen porthole with Hunter Douglas wood shades is above.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
