An Inside Look At The Bugatti Niniette 66 Yacht

Bugatti has confirmed that there will be two other new models launched in the near future. But for now, let us take a quick glance at this superyacht.

Bugatti is no stranger to working with other brands to create extremely luxurious and limited items. From a $280,000 watch with a small working W16 in its case to a fully Hermes leather wrapped one-off Chiron , if it’s not opulent, it’s not Bugatti.

The French automaker has now partnered up with legendary yacht builder Palmer Johnson, to create a Chiron inspired superyacht. Much like the hypercar on which it's based, there is no shortage of exotic materials across the hull of the elegant ship. Dubbed the Bugatti Niniette 66, it will carry a starting price of around $4 million dollars. It's also just one of three new ships Bugatti has committed to building in the near future.

A Bugatti For The Seas

A quick glance at the Bugatti Niniette 66's side profile reveals some heavy design inspiration taken directly from the brands flagship model, the Chiron. The C shaped line is a staple design cue of the brand and is known affectionately as the Bugatti line. This impressive design detail stretches across the hull of the yacht and serves to break up the design and provide some color contrast. In the rendered image above, the dark blue parts of the ship are all finished in exposed gloss blue carbon fiber.

The Niniette name is particularly special to the French automaker seeing as it was the preferred nickname of Lidia Bugatti, the daughter of company founder Ettore Bugatti.

How Does It Stack Up?

Like the name suggests, only 66 examples of the Niniette will ever be built, ranging from 50 to 80 feet depending on the specification. Although it is a limited production run, the website for the ship does not specify a delivery date or if any have been yet been sold.

Under the hood you’ll find two Man V8’s propelling the yacht forward via a water-jet system. The Niniette 66 will be able to carry up to 3,000 liters of fuel. At full tilt, the opulent ship will be able to hit a top speed of  50 miles per hour (44 knots).

A long list of available extras are available and the yacht itself is completely customizable, in theory you would match your ship to your exact Chiron specification. The customized interior will be able to accommodate a maximum of 21 people at a time. A word of warning however, the top speed is calculated without the inclusion of the available extras onboard, adding them will greatly affect the overall performance.

Carbon Overload

Speaking of options, almost all of the optional extras available for the Niniette are made of carbon fiber. Consider the massive carbon fiber jacuzzi placed strategically in the very center of the vessel, or the optional carbon fiber fireplace situated directly behind the captain’s seat.

The carbon doesn’t stop there, entire hull and deck of the ship are covered in a carbon composite. Although it can be argued that the use of lightweight materials on such a massively heavy ship seems like a waste, in true Bugatti fashion, it is more an exercise of beauty rather than practicality.

Exclusive Opulence

A lesser known fact about Bugatti is that back in 1930, they were commissioned by Prince Carlo Maurizio Ruspoli to create a one-off speedboat. Much like this modern interpretation, the original Bugatti speedboat was named the Niniette.

It seems as though this collaboration used one of Ettore Bugatti’s most famous quotes as its ethos “nothing is too beautiful, nothing is too expensive”. It's over $4 million price tag certainly confirms it. As Bugatti has confirmed that there will be two others, we can assume they will be launched as Bugatti launches new models in the near future.

BUGATTI NINIETTE 66: THE YACHT INSPIRED BY CHIRON SUPERCAR

Minimal Logo

With a length of 20 metres, a jacuzzi positioned in the cockpit , a 40-knot maximum speed and a price of almost 2.6 million dollars, the new Bugatti Niniette 66 is a yacht inspired by an automobile luxury symbol, the Bugatti Chiron.

Bugatti Chiron Niniette 66 navigazione

The project had been already discussed in 2015 when the management of the car manufacturer and that of Palmer Johnson , a luxury yacht builder, started to consider an idea that was not particularly original but certainly efficient: to put the strengths of the two brands together and craft a yacht based on the design of a supercar. During almost two years, the projects took shape and, now, it has been officially announced: the project of the first Palmer Johnson Bugatti Niniette 66 (this is the full name of the yacht) is finally ready and paves the way for a series of yachts ranging from 50 up to 80 feet .

Bugatti Chiron Niniette 66 consolle

The yacht is totally made of carbon fiber in order to reduce displacement and increase robustness and rigidity . The reversed sharp bow widens to the hull sides and defines a very large maximum beam combined with two side sponsons which contribute to reduce rolling and increase stability in navigation.

The deck perfectly reflects the typical Bugatti style in terms of materials , which are all hand-crafted, from leather to tissues, and colours . But the most remarkable features are the presence of a jacuzzi in the cockpit , located just behind the pilot station and convertible into a sun pad, and a fire pit . The latter might seem to be a too risky choice but the two manufacturers guarantee the total safety of the device.

Of course, the pilot station , too, is completely based on the design of Bugatti supercars, with a steering wheel which was literally uprooted from the Chiron and installed on the Niniette 66. The yacht is fitted with two MAN engines outputting 1,000 and 1,200 HP.

Bugatti Chiron Niniette 66 idromassaggio

Interiors show a very original design . First of all, they include  only one large central cabin .This is the standard layout but, of course, customers can benefit from many customization possibilities. However, an increase in the number of cabins might distort the design of this boat, where luxury is expressed also in terms of space. On the bow, in fact, there’s a large lounge whose sofas follow the hull profile. Matching materials including brushed steel, leather and marble create an extraordinary elegance effect.

As we’ve already said, it’s the first model born out of the collaboration between the two companies even if, in 1930, company founder Ettore Bugatti was commissioned by Prince Carlo Maurizio Ruspoldi to build a boat. It was christened Niniette, after the name of a dog owned and much loved by the Bugatti family.

Bugatti Niniette 66 Yacht Shows Off The Best Of Both Worlds

By Victor Baker

Published on March 15, 2017

Bugatti Niniette 66

The stunning Bugatti Niniette 66 is the result of a new incredible collaboration between the automotive magicians from Bugatti and the brilliant team at Palmer Johnson Yachts. The 66-feet vessel was specially designed to match the Bugatti Chiron , both on the inside and outside, with Palmer Johnson taking care of the unique naval architecture and engineering for this beauty.

Showing off a slender monohull, stabilized by a sponson on each side, this striking yacht will prove to be a great ride, as it’s super easy to control at any speeds. That might come in handy, since this limited-edition vessel is fully capable of achieving a top speed 44 knots, which is more than enough for thrills seekers and even for Bugatti owners.

Bugatti Niniette 66

The Bugatti Niniette 66 also comprises a very impressive master suite, with soft leathers, polished metal, suede, and carbon adding to the luxurious appeal of this vessel. There’s also a charming salon with macaron skylight, a marble-clad guest bathroom, and a small galley kitchen – you won’t find these features in a Chiron, by the way.

But there’s even more exclusivity to be enjoyed on board, as this yacht also comes with a fire pit, Jacuzzi, sun pads, and a Champagne bar, to help you forget about all your worries, and also to remind you that you’re one of just 66 people who wad the privilege of purchasing this beauty.

Powered by fuel-efficient MAN V-8 engines, and with MJP waterjets worthy of some attention, the Bugatti Niniette 66 will easily prove itself to be a worthy investment. Guests will compete to pilot this joy-stick-controlled speedboat, but we think it’s safe to suggest to take it slow. By the way, there’s no info on pricing just yet.

The $2M Bugatti Niniette Only Hits 43 MPH—Because It's a Yacht

Bugatti, the ultra-luxury arm of Volkswagen, has a new ride. Naturally, it's made mostly of carbon fiber, with some titanium and exotic woods thrown in to pretty it up. It features artful lines and exudes impeccable balance. It's packed with quiet nods to Bugatti's illustrious history, and the brand will of course tailor the interior to meet each buyer's demands. The cheapest version will cost more than $2 million.

The Niniette, though has a top speed of just 43 mph---one-sixth that of Bugatti's most recent model, the Veyron. That's because the Niniette isn't a supercar, or even a regular car. It's a yacht. A "sports yacht," to be precise.

The Ninette's offered in three sizes and is the result of a joint project from Bugatti and yacht-builder Palmer Johnson. The name comes from the nickname of Lidia Bugatti, whose father Ettore built racing boats and yachts as well as cars. The mid-sized model, the PJ63, is 63 feet long, contains two salons, room for four guests, and a crew cabin. It costs $3.52 million.

Why a yacht? For Bugatti and other automotive luxury brands that have looked beyond automobiles , the answer has typically been, why not? But this project's a bit surprising, given that Volkswagen is in the midst of an unprecedented crisis.

The German automaker illegally programmed about 11 million diesel-powered cars to cheat on emissions tests, and the punishment is only starting. The company could face $18.2 billion in fines in the US alone. US sales plunged 25 percent last month, even as the rest of the industry was on pace for record sales. Its facing hundreds of lawsuits from dealers and customers, according to Edmunds .

Credit Suisse estimates the scandal could cost VW $87 billion, though the automaker, which has set aside $7.3 billion, calls that "nonsense," according to CNN Money . So it's no surprise the German giant is cutting next year's R&D budget by about a billion dollars, to $13 billion, the first reduction since 2009. One rumored casualty is the next generation Phaeton luxury sedan, which could be delayed to 2020.

Still, plenty of projects are proceeding. Bugatti remains dedicated to the Veyron's successor, an even faster car called the Chiron . Oddly, the brand opened showrooms in Miami and New York last month, despite having no cars to sell---the Veyron sold out months ago.

Audi, another VW brand, is moving ahead with plans to revamp nearly 80 percent of its product portfolio in the next three years. That includes a fully electric SUV with about 250 miles of range. "That money, honestly speaking, is already spent," says Scott Keogh, Audi’s head of US operations. And Lamborghini's said nothing about scaling down its efforts, which also include an SUV.

Ultimately, the Niniette could prove to be a wise investment if the diesel scandal continues to deepen. It looks like a pretty sweet executive getaway vehicle.

Here’s that $2.2 million Bugatti yacht you didn’t know you needed

By Chris Ziegler

bugatti yacht top speed

Ultra-exotic car maker Bugatti doesn't currently have any cars in production, and it's months away from showing its next model — the Chiron — to the public. But that doesn't mean you can't buy Bugatti-branded stuff right now. Very expensive Bugatti-branded stuff, in fact.

Meet the Niniette, a series of three luxe boats ranging from 42 to 88 feet in length made by yacht builder Palmer Johnson, which is licensing the Bugatti name. "Niniette" was the nickname of Lidia Bugatti, daughter of company founder Ettore. As you might expect with a Bugatti-branded boat, all three are covered in titanium and carbon fiber, accented by Bugatti's trademark blue.

Don't expect the Niniette to keep up with a Veyron: it tops out around 38 knots (44 mph), which is still pretty quick for a giant boat. The smallest model, the 43-footer, starts at €2 million — but you'll pay €3.25 million for the 63-footer, and the biggest 88-footer doesn't even have a listed price. Presumably, it's not cheap. Naturally, none of the list prices include the cost of any additional bespoke customization that you'd like — a diamond-crusted steering wheel or gilded lavatory hardware, perhaps.

Get your order in now: Palmer Johnson has a 12-month production time for the boats, which means you won't realistically be luxuriating across the Mediterranean until 2017 at the earliest.

This $39 million superyacht comes with a $3 million Bugatti and a spot on deck to park it — take a closer look at 'Xenos'

  • Xenos is a new superyacht concept that comes with a $3 million Bugatti Chiron.
  • There's also an on-deck garage with a folding ramp that lets you drive right onto and off of the superyacht.
  • The top-of-the-line Xenos will cost around $39 million, have 15,000 horsepower, and be able to hit a claimed top speed of more than 100 mph, according to Lazzarini Design Studio, which designed the yacht.

Insider Today

Companies often try to lure customers in with attractive buy-one-get-one deals, but one design studio is taking that a step further by offering clients a Bugatti with the purchase of their next yacht.

Lazzarini Design Studio has penned a new superyacht concept called Xenos, and it comes with a complimentary Bugatti Chiron. Odds are that someone with the cash for a $39 million superyacht already has a supercar or two in the garage, but what's one more for the collection?

Not to mention, Xenos has a few more tricks up its sleeve, such as roof-mounted solar panels, auto-tinting windows, and a claimed top speed of more than 100 mph.

Check out some renderings of Xenos, which was brought to our attention by Robb Report , below.

Xenos is a superyacht concept that offers something most other yachts don't.

It comes with a Bugatti Chiron — one of the quickest, most powerful, and all-around wildest vehicles on the market today — included.

bugatti yacht top speed

Not only that — the yacht has a compartment to store your new Chiron while out on the high seas.

Thanks to an extending ramp, you can hop in your Chiron, rip a burnout right onto the dock, and speed away to your waterfront villa — all with minimal contact with the common folk hanging about the marina.

When the Bugatti's in the shop, Xenos owners can keep other toys like jet skis and boats in the garage.

But the $39 million superyacht has plenty more going for it than just a free supercar.

Built from carbon fiber and aluminum, Xenos's 130-foot hull is designed for high speeds.

Lazzarini Design Studio, the firm behind the concept, says Xenos will be able to hit speeds of 90 knots — roughly 104 mph — in its most powerful 15,000-horsepower configuration.

Timur Mohamed, CEO of Palmer Johnson, explains:

“The challenge was to create an experience and a persona as much as a yacht, from streamlined luxury, sophisticated style, and unprecedented quality. For owners of tomorrow, Niniette will lift your expectations of life even higher.”

The yacht has a slim main hull with two sponsons on both sides to improve stability and roll at high speeds.

“This construction also allows for a wider build compared to other yachts in this class, thus offering the experience of a much larger yacht,” adds Mohamed.

Boat of the Week: This 138-Foot Superyacht Is Worth $23 Million, but You Can Own It for the Price of a Supercar

A 2022 Bugatti Chiron supercar, top speed 217mph, would set you back a cool $3.3 million. Hard to believe that, for the same money, you could become the proud owner of a brand-new, 138-foot, Italian-built superyacht worth about $23.3 million.

The yacht is the rugged, explorer-style Dream FL42 designed by the Swiss yacht management company Floating Life. It will start construction at the CCN yard in Carrara, Italy, early next year. When it’s launched in 2025, it will have room for 14 guests in seven cabins.

How is ownership possible for a fraction of the price? Fractional ownership . The one-asset, multi-owner business model has been popular with business jets for decades, though it never really caught on in the yachting world.

Floating Life Dream fractional superyacht

Floating Life is hoping to change that. “It’s the price of one of seven equal shares,” Filippo Rossi, Floating Life’s commercial director, told Robb Report . “It offers all the joys of superyacht ownership, but without the headaches.”

An owner would get a total of 31 days of using the yacht each year, split between the Mediterranean in the summer, and Caribbean in the winter. Annual running costs of about $250,000 would also be part of the ownership scheme.

That fixed fee would cover all operating and maintenance costs, technical support, crew management, logistics, and 24/7 access to Floating Life’s concierge service.

Floating Life Dream fractional superyacht

There won’t be any wild colors or custom art on the yacht. Just a conservative palette and conventional decor.  Courtesy Floating Life

While Floating Life has been involved in fractional ownership for the past 15 years, its new FL42—christened “Dream”—is the first yacht the company is building from scratch. Designed by Floating Life co-founder Andrea Pezzini, its interior is by the Rome-based Satura Studio, with naval architecture by Zero13.

Featuring a steel hull and aluminum superstructure, the yacht’s range will be over 5,000 nautical miles, with power from a pair of Caterpillar C32 diesels.

The yacht, says Rossi, has been designed to suit the demands of fractional ownership with a focus on flexibility and oversized interior spaces. That includes an expansive beach club and spa at the stern, and six huge exterior entertaining and relaxing areas on the three decks.

Floating Life Dream fractional superyacht

The explorer style includes an unusual stern beach club.  Courtesy Floating Life

A novel feature is the location of the engine room deep in the hull. Not only does it lower the yacht’s center of gravity and improve stability, but it also allows the lower deck guest cabins—four VIPs and two twins—to be positioned above it providing same-level, no-stairs access to the beach club. The full-width owner’s suite is on the main deck, with twin drop-down balconies.

Satura Studio’s interior design is intentionally neutral with 50 shades of gray, white and beige. The one downside of fractional ownership is that owners can’t incorporate their personal tastes. No wild colors, no crystal chandeliers, no funky art that might not meet the tastes of the other six owners.

Another negative is that use is limited to 31 days, so no last-minute getaways and no guaranteed slot for New Year’s Eve in St. Barth’s. And if the majority of owners decide to send the yacht to a cruising area you don’t like, you might have to accept the consensus. Rossi says owners can sell their shares at any time and charter the boat if they don’t want to use their time slots.

Floating Life Dream fractional superyacht

The fractional model hasn’t really taken off in yachting like it has in business aviation. “It’s a different kind of commitment,” says a Floating Life executive.  Courtesy Floating Life

Two owners, both new to fractional ownership, have reportedly signed up to buy a share of “Dream.”

“These are people who could easily afford their own superyacht, but don’t have the time to use one for more than four weeks a year,” says Rossi. “Yes, they can charter, but they tell us they like the idea of being a shareholder in a yacht and crew they know.”

Floating Life Ocean Pearl

With its wild Normal Foster design, Ocean Pearl is also on the fractional market.  Courtesy Floating Life

Floating Life can offer a stake in the company’s original fractional ownership yacht, the well-known 134-foot Rodriguez-built “Ocean Pearl.” The polarizing design by Lord Norman Foster is available for a $500,000, or the price of a new Ferrari SF90 (MSRP $511,000).

As for comparing fractional ownership between jets and yachts, Rossi says it’s a matter of apples and oranges. “With a jet all you are doing is buying time for different hours, and typically for business travel,” he says. “With yachts the focus is different. It’s about pleasure, relaxation and being with family and friends. It’s a different kind of commitment.”

"Ninette" is the pet name of company founder Ettore Bugatti's daughter Lidia. Bugatti developed racing boats in the 1930s, so bringing boats to Bugatti is a bit of a revival.

The carbon fiber hull takes style elements from some of Bugatti's iconic classic cars, such as the Type 57 C Atalante and the Type 41 Royale. The yachts are expected to reach a top speed of 38 knots, which translates to approximiately 44 miles per hour.

Fastest Bugattis Ever Produced

The French supercar maker has been at the top of the performance food chain throughout most of its existence and these models certainly prove it

  • Bugatti has a long history of producing some of the fastest cars in the world, dating back to the 1930s.
  • The Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic, produced in the 1930s, held the title of the fastest road car of its time with a top speed of 124 mph.
  • The Bugatti EB110 GT, produced in 1991, reached a top speed of 213 mph, making it one of the fastest Bugattis ever made.

The top speed craze is officially finished as manufacturers have decided not to chase new land-speed records for production cars. With that said, one of the most vivid car manufacturers in this regard is the French automaker, Bugatti. The company was founded back in 1909 by Italian, Ettore Bugatti, in Molshem, France, where it is still headquartered to this day.

Over the years, the company has changed ownership a few times. It was officially defunct in 1960, only to be reborn three years later, by Hispano Suiza. From 1987 to 1995, the company was owned by Italian entrepreneur, Romano Artioli, and in 1998, Volkswagen bought the supercar manufacturer. Since November 2021, Bugatti has been under the ownership of Rimac and is about to usher in a new age of electrified, high-performance vehicles.

With that said, the company has been at the forefront of performance, for the majority of its existence. Since the 1930s, the French carmaker has been building some of the most capable road-going vehicles in history, and these 10 are the fastest Bugattis ever made.

We have gathered data from Bugatti's website as well as specialized websites for performance data, such as Supercars.net and Auto Data.net, to give you the fastest Bugatti cars ever made, arranged from slowest to fastest.

Bugatti Paves Its Own Path Into the Future

14 1936 bugatti type 57sc atlantic, top speed: 124 mph.

Bugatti was reaching for the top speed record even back in the 1930s, and in those days, the fastest production car was the 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic. There were six versions of the Type 57, all of which unique and rare. One thing, all Bugatti Type 57 models had in common was the iconic, teardrop design, which resulted in an elegant fastback body style, in some cases with a more pronounced trunk. The Type 57SC Atlantic was the most performance-oriented of the bunch.

Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic Specifications

"S" stood for "Surbaissé" (French for lowered) while "C" stood for "compressor" and indicated the addition of a supercharger. In the case of the Type 57SC, this bumped the output of the 3.3-liter straight-eight engine, from 135 in early cars (or 175 horsepower for Type 57S) to 210 horsepower. Originally, only two units of the Type 57SC were produced, but some owners of the non-supercharged Type 57S, later, opted for the supercharger option, which allowed for a top speed of 124.3 mph (200 km/h), making the Type57SC Atlantic the fastest road car of its day.

13 1927 Bugatti Type 41 Royale

Top speed: 125 mph.

Nowadays, Bugatti is known for its speed record-breaking hypercars, but the brand also dabbles in luxury. This was especially apparent in 1927, when the French brand introduced the Bugatti Type 41 Royale. The full-size, luxury sedan was built from 1927 to 1933, but during that period, just seven units were produced, one of which is confirmed to have been destroyed. The Type 41 was built to compete with the likes of Rolls-Royce. With its curb weight of 7,000 pounds (3,175 kg), it makes the current Bentley Continental Flying Spur seem like a Lotus Elise by comparison.

Bugatti Type 41 Royale Specifications

A lofty boat it may be, but the Type 41 Royale was no slouch. In times when most vehicles struggled to hit 90 mph (145 km/h), the Bugatti Royale managed 125 mph (201 km/h). This was, in no small part, thanks to the Type 41's massive, 12.8-liter (778.8 cu-in) straight-eight engine, which had the characteristics of a modern-day truck engine. With up to 300 horsepower at 1,800 RPM and a truckload of torque (literally), the Type 41 Royale happily chugged along at highway speeds, long before highways were invented.

12 1998 Bugatti EB112

Top speed: 186 mph.

You might be surprised to learn that Bugatti's more recent history includes a production, high-performance, luxury sedan. The Bugatti EB112 was, initially, unveiled at the 1993 Geneva Motor Show as a concept. Two years later, in 1995, the company went bankrupt. Some of the company's assets, including production plans, spare parts, and three unfinished EB112 sedans, were purchased by a businessman called Gildo Pallanca Pastor. Two of the cars were fully finished. While each of the EB112s, including the prototype, shared the overall aesthetics, courtesy of Italdesign's Giorgetto Giugiaro, they differed in terms of the details.

Bugatti EB112 Specifications

The two production variants were powered by a 6.0-liter V-12, developed by Bugatti. The EB112's V-12 was good for 450 horsepower and 479 pound-feet (649 Nm) More surprisingly, it was mated to a six-speed manual, which allowed for a 4.1-second 0 to 60 mph time. The EB112 was followed by a few other Bugatti, four-door concepts, but none of them materialized in a more mass-produced model.

How Bugatti's La Maison Pur Sang Program Painstakingly Restores "Old" Veyrons Siblings To Former Glory

11 1991 bugatti eb110 gt, top speed: 213 mph.

The only Bugatti produced under Romano Artioli's ownership is the EB110. The Bugatti's signature, quad-turbo setup originated from this model. Early versions of the EB110 bear the GT extension and as the name suggests, are a bit more about comfort compared to the later EB110 SS models, also present on the list. The EB110 GT features multi-spoke, "wire" wheels and an active rear wing, as opposed to the fixed one on the SS. The Bugatti EB110 GT may be the less-powerful variant of the mid-engine Bugatti of the 1990s, but it still packs 553 horsepower and 451 pound-feet (611 Nm) out of the 3.5-liter, quad-turbo V-12.

Bugatti EB110 GT Specifications

More importantly, it manages that power thanks to all-wheel drive. The EB110 GT comes from times before paddle-shift automatics, which is why, just like the EB110 SS, it comes, exclusively, with a six-speed manual. Despite a similar appearance, the EB110 GT features a heavier steel chassis, compared to the EB110 SS, which makes the EB110 GT around 450 pounds (215 kg) heavier. While more laid-back than the SS, the EB110 GT is no slouch and almost matched its sportier sibling in terms of 0 to 60 mph while reaching a top speed of 213 mph (342 km/h).

10 2020 Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport

Top speed: 217 mph.

Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport is what happens when you want Bugatti’s hyper-grand-tourer in a more track-focused guise. In 2020, the company obliged and gave us a version of the Chiron with revised aerodynamics that increased downforce. New aerodynamic wheels, closer gear ratios, 200 RPM higher-revving engine, 110 pounds (50 kg0 weight reduction, and more Alcantara in the cabin are what sets the Pur Sport apart.

Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport Specifications

There’s also a tall, fixed rear spoiler. Although the Chiron Pur Sport still packs 1,500 horsepower and 1,180 pound-feet (1,600 Nm), its top speed has been reduced to 217 mph (350 km/h). The 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) takes a mind-blowing, 2.2 seconds.

9 1992 Bugatti EB110 SS

Top speed: 221 mph.

One year after the Bugatti EB110 GT made its debut, the company released a lighter, more powerful version called the EB110 SS. Visually, the car stood apart from the milder EB110 GT with different wheels and a fixed rear wing. A more extensive use of carbon fiber resulted in a weight reduction from the GT’s 3,571 pounds (1,620 kg) to 3,126 pounds (1,418 kg) for the SS.

Bugatti EB110 SS Specifications

The 3.5-liter, quad-turbo V-12 was also massaged for 612 horsepower while the familiar, six-speed manual sent power to both axles. The 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) was dealt with in 3.2 seconds on to a top speed of 221 mph (355 km/h), making it the fastest production car, for a brief time. Before VW’s acquisition of Bugatti, Dauber bought the remaining EB110 parts, producing a 230-mph (370 km/h) version.

Bugatti's W-16 Is Dead, But It Just Set A World Record

8 2020 bugatti divo, top speed: 236 mph.

Bugatti Chiron came in 2018 as the successor to the Veyron. The Chiron was the basis for many limited-edition versions, among which is the Bugatti Divo. It is a track-focused version, built as a homage to Albert Divo – a racing driver who raced for Bugatti in the 1920s (hence the name). Unlike the Chiron, the Divo was not solely about speed.

Bugatti Divo Specifications

Although it packs the same, 8.0-liter, quad-turbo W-16 as the Chiron, with 1,500 horsepower and 1,180 pound-feet (1,600 Nm), its top speed is limited to “just” 236 mph (380 km/h). Power still went to all four wheels through an eight-speed DCT. The Divo’s production ended with 40 examples, built between 2019 and 2021.

7 2020 Bugatti Centodieci

In 2022, Bugatti celebrated 110 years of its existence with a neo-retro-styled Chiron-based model, dubbed the Centodieci – Italian for “110”. The Chiron’s bones were veiled in a body, inspired by the Bugatti EB110. In this case, the 8.0-liter, quad-turbo W-16 produced 1,600 horsepower and 1,180 pound-feet (1,600 Nm).

Bugatti Centodieci Specifications

With all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic, the 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) sprint took 2.3 seconds. Despite having extra 100 horsepower than the Divo, the Centodieci’s top speed is limited to the same 236 mph (380 km/h). The EB110-inspired Bugatti Centodieci was produced only for 2022, with production ending after just 10 examples were built.

6 2005 Bugatti Veyron 16.4

Top speed: 253 mph.

In 2005, Bugatti took back the world speed record for a road-going car. Bugatti Veyron demolished McLaren F1’s long-standing record for the fastest, production car, although it did so with a much bigger engine and four turbochargers. In its original guise, the 8.0-liter, quad-turbo W-16 produced 1,001 horsepower and 922 pound-feet (1,250 Nm).

Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Specifications

The massive powerplant was complimented by an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic and all-wheel drive, resulting in a 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 2.4 seconds and a top speed of 253 mph (407 km/h). The Veyron, effectively, restarted the speed war in the automotive industry, with companies like SSC, Koenigsegg, and Bugatti, exchanging the title multiple times.

5 2018 Bugatti Chiron/Chiron Sport

Top speed: 261 mph.

Bugatti’s W-16 hypercar has always been about speed. In 2018, the Veyron was succeeded by the even more bonkers Chiron. The new car brought more sophistication and more power from the same quad-turbo W-16 – now 1,500 horsepower and 1,180 pound-feet (1,600 Nm). As with all Veyrons and Chirons, power was managed through an eight-speed DCT and all-wheel drive.

Bugatti Chiron Sport Specifications

Naturally, the Chiron was faster than the Veyron, with the top speed now being 261 mph (420 km/h) instead of 253 mph (407 km/h). The Chiron’s fuel tank would be empty after 11 minutes of flat-out driving. The more track-oriented Chiron Sport was introduced shortly after with identical performance specs. The main difference was slightly more carbon fiber, resulting in 40 pounds (18 kg) less weight and stiffer suspension.

4 2023 Bugatti Mistral

Bugatti Mistral is one of the many versions, based on the Chiron. The company describes it as “the ultimate roadster” and the 1,500-horsepower, 8.0-liter, quad-turbo W-16 is certainly a strong argument for that. The rest of the Chiron’s hardware, among which the eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, are also a direct carry-over.

The Mistral’s production is to commence this year with deliveries expected in 2024. Production is limited to 99 units and with a top speed of 261 mph (420 km/h), the Mistral is one of the fastest roadsters, with only the Venom F5 and Koenigsegg Agera RS Roadster being faster.

3 2010 Bugatti Veyron Super Sport

Top speed: 268 mph.

After the American SSC Ultimate Aero stole the Veyron’s top speed record, the French company decided to reclaim it. It did so with the 2010 Bugatti Veyron Super Sport – a more powerful version of the W-16 hypercar with 1,200 horsepower and 1,106 pound-feet (1,500 Nm).

Volkswagen's Ehra-Lessien test track, the Veyron Super Sport managed an average top speed (from three runs) of 268 mph (431 km/h), which was enough for a Guinness World Record. On its first run, the Veyron SS managed 270 mph (434 km/h). Only 48 production versions of the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport were produced. All cars sold to the public were limited to 258 mph (415 km/h).

2 2019 Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+

Top speed: 304.8 mph.

The Chiron Super Sport 300++ was when Bugatti decided to take the gloves off. As the name suggests, the target was 300 mph (483 km/h). The ultimate Chiron relied on a 1,600-horsepower version of the quad-turbo W-16, dubbed Thor – the same version of the 8.0-liter lump also powered the Centodieci.

Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ Specifications

The Super Sport 300++ was also 248.9 mm (9.8 inches) longer in order to be more stable at high speeds. Naturally, the top speed run was executed at Volkswagen’s Ehra-Lessien test track, in August 2019, where the Chiron SS 300++ managed 304.774 mph (490.486 km/h). Just 30 production copies were built.

Bugatti Chiron Successor: Everything We Know So Far

1 2023 bugatti bolide, top speed: 311 mph.

When we first learned of the Bugatti Bolide, we thought the closest it would get to production was the concept stage. However, the company started production back in 2021 with the promise that the first batch of cars would reach its owners in 2024. Bolide means race car, so you can expect this to be a track-focused version. However, this time, racetrack prowess will not come at the cost of a lower top speed.

Bugatti promises that the Bolide will be capable of 311 mph (500 km/h) when it arrives. This is, partially, thanks to a version of the 8.0-liter, quad-turbo W-16 that makes 1,850 horsepower and 1,364 pound-feet (1,849 Nm). As always, power goes to all four wheels through a seven-speed DCT. Production is limited to 40 units.

Bugatti boat, posted by luxify, 31 march, 2020.

The Bugatti Chiron is probably the fastest road legal car in the world. The hypercar travels a top speed of 261 mph and a super amount of power of 1500HP. Now, when you think that the $2.6 million masterpiece was the best Bugatti could do then rethink that. The Bugatti has been working together with Palmer Johnson to produce a luxury sports yacht. The Palmer Johnson Yachts are designers of some of the remarkable yachts in Monaco.

bugatti yacht top speed

The Bugatti Niniette 66 drives its inspiration from the Bugatti Chiron. The Bugatti Niniette 66 will be a mixture of elegance, class, speed, and almost a show of power. The boat maintains the principles of Bugatti such as aerodynamics, performance, dynamic control, and comfortability.

Ultra-luxury accessories used in the Bugatti boat is overwhelming. Carbon fiber, polished metal, marble, and leather are some of the material that will grace the super yacht. The use of carbon fiber in the construction of the body reduces the weight of the boat. Also, it brings out the sleek and sassy look of the Bugatti Chiron.

Blue morta oak, titanium Bugatti signature, and leather seats grace the deck. What makes the Niniette 66 one of a kind is not even the Bugatti signature but the Jacuzzi and a fire pit. You can relax at night watching the stars in a hot Jacuzzi or enjoying the heat produced the fire pit. It is the first boat that you can enjoy roasting a marshmallow on the deck.

The lower deck has a champagne bar (it is expected because the vessel costs a fortune) and a sun pad. Also, it has a couple of open seats that are covered with leather. The interior of the boat redefines the meaning of luxury and style in the boating industry. There is a sleek flat screen TV and a salon that is spacious. The couch arrangement is breathtaking and doesn’t forget that the Bugatti Chiron inspires the interior designs.

bugatti yacht top speed

Next, to the salon lays a king-size bed. However, the sofas are wide enough, and more people can sleep on them. But I doubt someone will want people sleeping in their multimillion sofas.

The Bugatti Niniette 66 is 20 meters long with a spacious deck. Marine Jet Propulsion water jets is combined with Twin MAN V8-1000 engines producing 1000HP each power the super yacht. The boat travels at a maximum speed of 50.6mph which is quite incredible on the water. The cockpit contains a joystick where all the magic of controlling this power and speed happens.

The Niniette 66 will change the game and speed targets in the boating world. The owners of the $2.6 million Bugatti Chiron want the Niniette 66 in the collection. However, 36% of the 500 Bugatti Chiron owners are from the Middle East. The Bugatti is planning to release limited units of Niniette 66. Rumors have it that the 66 units will be going for $4 million. Good luck procuring your unit if you have that kind of cash laying around.

Britain’s America’s Cup boat is a six-tonne rocket ship – here is how our first test went

It is difficult to describe the emotion of getting out on our America’s Cup boat for the first time on Wednesday.

This isn’t a boat that was suddenly delivered to us, like driving a new car out of the showroom. RB3, as we have code-named her, is a 75-foot, six-tonne rocket ship that we have spent the last two years designing, building and tweaking. We have sweated over every inch, pored over every detail.

Over 120,000 parts and tens of thousands of hours, racked up by a team comprised of the very best from the marine industry and Formula One. It’s hard to emphasise just what a big moment it was for our team, as it was for all of our competitors when they launched.

So, it’s fair to say there was much excitement and no little trepidation when we docked out in Barcelona on Wednesday. When you first pull the sails on and accelerate in a yacht of this scale and with this much performance, it’s fair to say that your senses are on red alert. How does the boat feel? How quickly will it take off? What are all the alarms blaring away in your in-ear comms system?

It’s not quite Apollo 11 landing on the moon but you get the gist of the intensity on board the boat in these key moments.

The sorts of things you’d expect when you’re dealing with over several hundred sensors and channels; so many systems, so much gadgetry. But nothing to be alarmed about. We got up on the foils and did some manoeuvres, which went pretty much to expectations. We didn’t attempt to set any speed records, but we were going over 40 knots at times.

We had a pretty good idea of how we were going to go as we did a tow test last Friday, which is when the boat is pulled along by a tow line to get it up on its foils and check that everything works. With so many new systems to test – new foils, new rig and sails, new control systems and so on – it’s standard practice to test everything in a controlled manner before putting up the sails and letting rip.

What we do not yet know is whether this is the boat that is going to end 173 years of hurt.

The America’s Cup is unique in that you and your competitors build something to a set of regulations, over the course of years, completely blind, and then launch and test and race it within the space of a few months.

We are the fourth team to launch our Cup boat so far. Alinghi were the first to launch, closely followed by Team New Zealand and Luna Rossa a couple of weeks ago. Team France and American Magic should not be far away. And so far we are reasonably comfortable with what we have seen.

There are some subtle differences between all the boats. It’s clear that everyone is trying to chase after the same performance gains, just in slightly different ways. The big talking points have been the keel line of the boat – what we call the bustle. That’s how the boat is aerodynamically sealed to the water plane. And then some interesting features in terms of the layout of the crew, and how the rudder rake is packaged. In some teams the rudder control systems are beneath the water line. And then with ourselves and American Magic it’s above the water line. So that’s an aerodynamic-hydrodynamic trade-off which is interesting but is unlikely to be a game changer.

The foils will be key of course. We haven’t seen the race foils yet for Emirates Team New Zealand (who have the luxury of being the defenders, which means they can hold back their designs for longer if they so wish). Or Luna Rossa’s. But we’ve seen Alinghi’s.

Nothing so far has made us go, ‘Oh s---, we’ve missed something big’. Just subtle differences. There was some talk that the Kiwis might go with a recumbent position for their cyclors, but that proved to be a wild rumour. The Americans could still go that route. We haven’t seen their solution yet, but it’s a possibility.

So far I’d say we have been one of the more aggressive in terms of pushing the envelope on design, particularly on the aerodynamic modelling. And that shouldn’t be a surprise given our Mercedes F1 partnership.

It’s a fascinating period and it’s what we love about these design differences; that it’s got all of the armchair admirals beavering away, analysing it, coming up with different viewpoints.

Time will tell. After losing the first Cup way back in 1851, Britain has never managed to win it back. So we are up against the weight of history as well as the might of the Kiwis, the Italians, the Americans and so on. But we are hugely excited and proud to be representing Britain in this challenge.

We have the official naming ceremony for the boat coming up in a few weeks time with Sir Jim Ratcliffe, our backer, and his family. In the meantime, we will get our heads down, crunch the numbers from our first sail and keep refining what we have.

After years of design and development, it’s amazing to be out on the water with our focus firmly on maximising performance when it counts.

Built by the Italian shipyard San Lorenzo in 2015, the 46 metre superyacht SCORPION is the eighth vessel in the shipyard’s 46 steel line. Constructed with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, she features naval architecture by the in-house team at San Lorenzo, whilst her exterior design was undertaken by Francesco Paszkowski. The elegance of the external lines give SCORPION the unmistakable San Lorenzo’s style which makes every San Lorenzo yacht a timeless classic, never influenced by the temporary fashion trends.

Her main salon is particularly bright and welcoming, epitomising the aforementioned desired owner’s concept perfectly. The dark, wooden flooring contrasting with the light upholstery and various brightly coloured decorative pieces.

The dining area is located on the upper deck, and is one of the brightest spaces on the vessel, connecting seamlessly to the outside with floor to ceiling sliding glass doors. A gorgeous round glass table is surrounded by elegant turquoise dining chairs for ten guests. Other amenities on board include a fully equipped gym and sauna.

The staircase hosts what is unquestionably one of SCORPION ’s most unique and interesting aesthetic features in a specially created crystal sculpture. Transforming colour at each deck from blue to turquoise-green, the 3.9 metre piece immediately draws the eye and creates an ideal ambiance for entertainment.

Moving outside to her exterior spaces, her spacious sun deck is a hub of activity, with a large Jacuzzi situated next to a large space dedicated to sun loungers, a spacious al fresco dining area that seats up to 10 guests, as well as a bar and additional sunloungers towards the aft. The main deck is home to a large seating area, comprised of two comfortable L shaped sofas and leading down to the large beach club.

Elsewhere, her huge garage astern houses an impressive seven metre tender, with an additional large garage located at the bow to host a wide range of water toys. Furthermore, an external lighting system gives the whole boat a multicolor effect, switching to different chromatic shades for a captivating and unique atmosphere.

SCORPION accommodates guests over five generous staterooms, comprised of a large master suite on the main deck in addition to two double cabins and two twin cabins on the lower deck. The master’s suite is decorated in a delicate palette of creams, white, silver and lilacs and is inundated with natural light from the large windows framing the stateroom and private office. The large bathroom is both sophisticated and stylish, with a large bathtub and his and hers sinks.

All guest accommodation is located on the lower deck. The mosaics in the bathrooms were all made especially by a Moscow-based artist, continuing the artistic ambiance present in all areas on board. A crew of nine are also accommodated for on the lower deck.

Scorpion - Yacht for Charter

From €225,000 EUR

  • Builder Sanlorenzo
  • Length 46m (151ft)

The stylish SCORPION yacht features Art Deco-inspired interiors, vast open deck spaces and a generous collection of water toys.

Her high-spec interior and ample space for entertaining make this an ideal luxury superyacht for event charters.

Interior Design & Engineering

The 46-metre SCORPION yacht was built in 2015 and is ABS-classed and MCA-compliant. She cruises at 14 knots and is fitted with zero-speed stabilisers for added comfort.

Her interior, designed by Tiziana Vercellesi and the SCORPION yacht owner themselves, is an Art Deco-inspired haven of opulence. Her upper deck sky lounge is the real showpiece, boasting an aquarium and formal dining at a round glass table with circular sliding doors that connect it to the upper deck.

Up to 12 guests will sleep across five cabins during your SCORPION yacht charter. The full-beam owner’s suite lies on the main deck and boasts a king-size bed, an en suite with a Jacuzzi and jet shower, and two private terraces. The rest of the cabins comprise two VIP cabins and two convertible twins, each with integrated entertainment systems and en suite bathrooms.

Yacht Facilities & Entertainment

The sun deck of the SCORPION yacht is full of amenities to help you relax. You can move around the multiple sunbathing areas to maximise your tanning and pop up the biminis when you need to find some shade. You can unwind in the Jacuzzi or enjoy a barbecued meal at the alfresco dining table amidship.

The sun deck is also an ideal space to entertain, thanks to the outdoor LED lighting that gives the whole space a fun and funky club-like atmosphere. For special sundowners, head to the viewing table on the fore deck and take in the vista.

If you need to recover from a night of partying, you’ll find plenty of loungers on the upper deck aft and main deck aft that are ideal for an alfresco nap. Should you prefer to sweat it out, you can go through the beach club and work out in the fully equipped gym before loosening up in the sauna after and then enjoying a massage from the onboard therapist. Once you’ve taken a dip, you can head back to the swim platform and recline across even more sun loungers.

Toys & Crew

A crew of 10 will make sure your SCORPION yacht charter is an exceptional experience.

When you want to enjoy some leisure time ashore, there’s a custom-made Limo tender and a 4-metre Lomac tender available to transfer you.

The SCORPION motor yacht also carries a variety of water toys for you to enjoy. You could zip across the waves on the multi-person Jet Skis, Seabobs and towable toys, or have a go at the jet surfboard, fly board and wakeboard. For something more mindful, you can don the snorkelling gear and explore the reefs.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

scorpion yacht

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

scorpion yacht

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

scorpion yacht

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

scorpion yacht

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

scorpion yacht

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

scorpion yacht

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

scorpion yacht

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.

Restaurant-Yacht Chaika

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

Pleasantly surprised, service is good so is the food. Great selection of Fusion food, a mixture of Italian, Japanese, European, Asian etc. A pleasantly nice dining experience, highly recommended, a must try!

Thank you for your feedback and invite you to have lunch or dinner again aboard the ship in an atmosphere of high standards of yacht hospitality.

everything was perfect - the food, the service, the desserts were the best, nice atmosphere and the location - magical

Best food, best view in Moscow. absolutely faultless from arrival to finish. Best risotto i had for many years absolutely perfectly cooked. The view on Ukrainian hotel and the white house by night is amazing

Had to wait for the food for 1.5 hours and then another 20 minutes for the check. Finally called for the manager and he offered... a 10% discount as a compensation. Simply pathetic! The food is mediocre at best. Not bad per se, but one... would expect something better considering the prices. There are many places to eat in area that are much better. Avoid this one at all costs. Food is very expensive, very pretentious, doesn't worth that money. Portions are very small. We ordered ravioli and there were 4! Four raviolis! For almost 15 euros. Then we asked to bring us dessert menu but nothing, they didn't even bothered, so we payed and left... without dessert. Very poor service for that price. More

This is a very good restaurant. The food is really good, maybe the best in Moscow. The service is also good. The view from the restaurant is great. The prices are very high.

I often visit this restaurant and must say it’s one of the best in Moscow in terms of quality and service. Staff really try hard to make sure that you are happy and satisfied. Customer service is a huge problem in Moscow but Chaika sets... a great example for others in the industry! Food is delicious and the menu has lots of options for everyone! Atmosphere is great and view is beautiful on the embankment. Special thanks to German & Oleg! More

Thank you for your feedback! Again aboard the yacht restaurant "Chaika" in accordance with the high standards of yacht hospitality.

Highly recommended, great location in the city center of Moscow with a superb atmosphere. Too many menu choices, though all delicious!

Thx a lot for your review! We are looking forward to see you in our restaurants.

Visited this lovely restaurant with a friend of mine. It was relaxingly warm August evening - so the place on the river seemed like a good idea. We came quite early and the restaurant was not full. The hostesses kindly offered several places to sit... and we chose to sit on the sofas. We had some wine, which was good. We struggled a bit when deciding about the food as few options (scallops) were not available. Fish on ice on display did not look very fresh. To be honest it was an unusually hot August and it is probably understandable that some see food options were not available. However, we did manage to order something and sat waiting and looking onto the river. My long-legged friend struggled sitting at the low sofa and the manager noticed that, offering as a very good, proper table beside the open window. It was nice touch and I was very pleased by their polite observations and immediate reaction to solve the problem. Food was quite good and presentation was perfect. Perhaps I can something about the food, but 1 visit is not enough to criticize or make a definitive opinion. Overall, quality place, which of course, does not come cheap. I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation. More

City Street Guides by f.d. walker: A Street Photography Guide to Moscow, Russia

moscow-guide-cover

*A series of guides on shooting Street Photography in cities around the world. Find the best spots to shoot, things to capture, street walks, street tips, safety concerns, and more for cities around the world. I have personally researched, explored and shot Street Photography in every city that I create a guide for. So you can be ready to capture the streets as soon as you step outside with your camera!

At over 12 million people, Moscow is the largest city in Russia and second largest in Europe by population ( Istanbul is #1). An urban, cosmopolitan metropolis with more than enough glitz and glam to cater to the elite, but without losing its fair share of Soviet era roughness around the edges. It can be fast paced, brash, busy, and trendy like other big cities, but it has its blend of West meets Russia atmosphere and beauty that provides plenty of unique interest. The Red Square is as famous as it gets, but there’s so much more to this city, including the most beautiful subway system you’ve ever seen. It would take years to capture all of Moscow, but that means you have an endless amount of areas to discover.

bugatti yacht top speed

So here’s a Street Photography guide so you can be ready to capture all that Moscow has to offer before you even arrive!

  • Patriarch’s Pond
  • Old Arbat Street
  • Maroseyka Street
  • Tverskoy Boulevard

Top 5 Street Spots:

1. red square.

The Red Square is the most famous square in not just Russia, but all of Eastern Europe. The name actually doesn’t come from the color of the bricks or communism, but from the name in Russian, Krásnaya, once meaning “beautiful” before its meaning changed to “red.” This large plaza is what you see on the cover of guide books and magazines for Moscow, with St. Basil’s Cathedral being the center piece next to Lenin’s Mausoleum surrounded by the Kremlin Wall. Of course, the Red Square attracts hordes of tourist due to the main attractions, but all that activity around an interesting atmosphere does provide street photo opportunities. It’s also the central square connecting to the city’s major streets, providing a good starting point to explore outward.

bugatti yacht top speed

You’ll also find the popular pedestrian only Nikolskaya Street connecting the Red Square to Lubyanka Square. This line of expensive shops includes plenty of activity, while also leading you to another popular square. Filled with history rivaling any city, the Red Square and surrounding areas are the heart and soul of Russia.

bugatti yacht top speed

2. Patriarch’s Ponds

Patriarch’s Ponds is one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in Moscow. Despite the name being plural, there’s only one large pond, but it’s worth a visit with your camera. It’s a popular spot for locals and expats to come relax or take a stroll around the pond. You get an interesting mix of young and old too, from young love to “babushkas” feeding pigeons. It’s a very peaceful park atmosphere in one of the nicer areas within the city center, while bringing enough activity for street photography.

bugatti yacht top speed

The pond is shallow and in the winter becomes a popular spot for ice-skating too. The area is also well-known for the location in the famous Russian novel, The Master and Margarita.

3. Old Arbat (Stary Arbat)

Old Arbat is the most famous pedestrian street in Moscow, and dating back to the 15th century, also one of its oldest. Originally, it was an area of trade, but soon became the most prestigious residential area in Moscow. During the 18th century, Arbat started attracting the city’s scholars and artists, including Alexander Pushkin. Cafes lined the streets and impressive homes filled the neighborhood. Since then, New Arbat street was created as a highway in the area, while Old Arbat was paved for a 1km pedestrian only walkway.

bugatti yacht top speed

Due to the historic buildings, famous artists that lived here, and the bohemian atmosphere, Old Arbat has become a big attraction for tourists today. Now, there’s a mix of cafes, restaurants, souvenir shops, street performers, street merchants and other attractions for visitors, and some locals, to come enjoy. It can get really busy here and there’s usually something interesting going on so it’s a good street to come walk with your camera for guaranteed life.

4. Gorky Park

One of the most famous places in Moscow is Gorky Park. The official name is Maxim Gorky’s Central Park of Culture & Leisure, which gives you an idea of what goes on here. When built, it was the first of its kind in the Soviet Union. Divided into two parts, it stretches along Moscow River. One end contains fair rides, foods stands, tennis courts, a sports club, a lake for boat rides, and more. This end brings more active life due to its number of attractions, while the other end is more relaxed, where you’ll find gardens, trees, older buildings, and an outdoor amphitheater.

bugatti yacht top speed

Gorky Park attracts mostly locals so it’s a good spot to capture the non-tourist side of Moscow life. Muscovites come here to escape the city and unwind in a picturesque setting. The park remains alive outside of the warmer months too, especially when the lake turns into the city’s largest outdoor skating rink. I’d recommend taking the metro out here to spend at least half a day exploring the massive park’s life with your camera.

5. Maroseyka Street

Maroseyka Street is a popular area not too far from the Red Square. The long, winding street turns into Pokrovka and is lined with restaurants, cafes, bars and places to stay. It’s actually where I like to stay when I’m in Moscow due to its location and solid street photography opportunities itself. You have Kitay-gorod station near and if you keep walking southwest, you’ll get to the Red Square. But if you walk northwest, as it changes to Pokrovka, you can find a long street of activity for photography with its own interesting atmosphere.

bugatti yacht top speed

6. Tverskoy Boulevard

Tverskoy Boulevard is the oldest and longest boulevard in Moscow, beginning at the end of Nikitsky Boulevard, and finishing at Pushkin Square, a spot to come for activity itself. The boulevard is made up of two avenues, with pedestrian walkways in-between. You’ll find grass, shrubbery, trees, benches and more walking it’s almost kilometer length. Many people come here to enjoy some relaxation, walk their dog, or just to use it to walk wherever they’re going. Its center location also provides a nice place to walk with your camera near plenty of other spots you’ll want to check out anyway.

Sample Street Walk:

For a full day of Street Photography, covering some of the best spots, you can follow this sample street walk for Moscow:

  • Start your morning walking around the Red Square (1), while exploring the surrounding area, including Nikolskaya Street
  • Then walk northwest to Patriarch’s Ponds (2) and slowly walk the pond and surrounding area with your camera
  • Next, walk east to the Pushkin Monument and stroll down Tverskoy Boulevard (6)
  • Once Tverskoy Boulevard (6) ends, it will turn into Nikitsky Boulevard. Follow this down until you get to the start of Old Arbat Street (3), across from Arbatskaya station
  • After you’re done walking down Old Arbat Street (3) for more street photography, spend some time checking out Moscow’s beautiful metro stations
  • To finish off the day with more street photography, get off the metro near Red Square (1) again, Maroseyka Street (5) or wherever you’re staying for the night.

3 Things I’ll Remember about Shooting in Moscow:

1. museum metro.

The Moscow metro system was the first underground railway system in the Soviet Union and today includes 203 stations across 340km of routes. The elaborate system has some of the deepest stations in the world too, with escalators that seem to go on forever. None of this is what makes it so special, though. Many of its stations feel like stepping inside a museum, making it without a doubt the most interesting and beautiful metro system I’ve been in.

bugatti yacht top speed

When built, Stalin wanted to make the metro stations “palaces for the people” with marble, chandeliers, and grand architecture. The best part is the variety of architecture and styles used, making many of the stations a completely different experience visually. You could easily spend a whole day traveling the stations and there are even tours available for people who wish to do just that. My advice, though, would be just to buy a ticket and hop on and off at different stations, while exploring different lines. The museum-like surrounding mixed with the crowds of characters can make for a great photography experience.

bugatti yacht top speed

Since there are so many stations, here are some of my favorites to check out:

  • Novoslobodskaya
  • Mayakovskaya
  • Elektrozavodskaya
  • Komsomolskaya
  • Ploschad Revolyutsii
  • Dostoyevskaya
  • Prospekt Mira

bugatti yacht top speed

2. Moscow is Big

It’s no secret that Moscow is a big city, but it can feel even bigger with how spread out much of it is. This is especially true if you compare it to cities outside of Asia. If I compared it to cities in Europe, I’d probably say only Istanbul would warrant more time to really discover the depths of this city. Most only explore around the Red Square and surrounding area, but that is such a small part of the city. Although, that central area does give you plenty to see on its own.

bugatti yacht top speed

Fortunately, I had a good friend living in the city to show me around, but it opened up my eyes even more to how much there is to discover in Moscow. It’s a big city with a variety of atmosphere that can take you from “east” to “west” and trendy to rugged depending on where you go. I’d imagine you’d have to live here a while to really know the city.

3. Cosmopolitan Mix of East meets West

Modern skyscrapers mixed with amazing architecture, a world-class metro system with museum-like beauty, trendy fashion and chic clubs, Moscow is a rich mix of Russian culture and history in a more western cosmopolitan package. There is a push to keep the Russian culture, while also pushing forward with a modern metropolis the whole world will envy. This comes with an impressive skyline, that continues to grow, and endless modernities, but with soviet nostalgia and atmosphere mixed in for good measure.

bugatti yacht top speed

Mixed in with this grand western cosmopolitan atmosphere, is a strong national pride in Russia. This includes their famous leader, Vladimir Putin. Maybe no other place will you see a country’s leader more often. All over, from the pricey tourist shops to the underground walkway stalls, you’ll find goods with Putin’s likeness covering them. From t-shirts to magnets to Matryoshka dolls. There’s a strong national pride that can be seen around the city, which also extends to their leader. Moscow is many things. It’s East meets West, modernizations meets Soviet era, and a whole lot more.

What To Do For a Street Photography Break?:

Eat at a stolovaya.

Stolovayas are Russian cafeterias that became popular in the Soviet days. You grab a tray and walk down the line of freshly prepared local dishes, and select whatever you want from the chefs. They’re usually inexpensive and a much better value than restaurants, while giving you the opportunity to try from a wide selection of everyday Russian food. They’re also very tasty. I always include some borsch on my tray and go from there. The places themselves are all over Moscow and usually come with Soviet-era aesthetics to complete the experience.

bugatti yacht top speed

Street Safety Score: 7

*As always, no place is completely safe! So when I talk about safety, I’m speaking in general comparison to other places. Always take precaution, be smart, observe your surroundings and trust your instincts anywhere you go!

Being the 2nd largest city in Europe with over 12 million people, you’re going to have your dangerous areas, but for the most part, it feels safe walking around. Russia is statistically higher in crime compared to most of Europe, but this generally doesn’t apply to tourists and visitors. Around the Red Square and surrounding city center, you should feel completely safe walking around. Pick pocketing can happen, but no more than other touristic places. I always explore Moscow freely without coming across too much to worry about. It’s a spread out city, though, so of course it matters where you are. Just use basic street smarts, know where you are and Moscow shouldn’t give you a problem.

bugatti yacht top speed

People’s Reaction Score: 7

Moscow is fast paced, big city life, which usually means people aren’t too concerned with you, or your camera. I don’t find people notice or pay much attention to me when I’m out taking photos in Moscow. For the most part, people just go about their day. You shouldn’t get too many looks or concern. But it can depend on the area you are in. The more you stick out, the more you might get noticed with suspicions. I’ve never had any problems in Moscow, or Russia, but just be careful who you’re taking a photo of if you get out of the city center. Other than that, it’s about average for reactions.

bugatti yacht top speed

Street Tips:

Learn the alphabet .

Much of Moscow, including the metro system, doesn’t use english. The Russian alphabet uses letters from the Cyrillic script, which if you aren’t familiar with it and don’t know the sounds, can be hard to decipher the words. This is most important for street names and metro stops when trying to get around. It can save confusion and make it easier getting around if you learn the basic alphabet. At the very least then, you can sound out the words to see which are similar in the english conversion, which can help matching them to maps. When out shooting street photography, getting around is as important as anything. So save yourself some time and frustration by learning the Russian Alphabet.

bugatti yacht top speed

Use the metro

While Saint-Petersburg feels very walkable for a city its size, Moscow can feel very spread out, even for its bigger size. Outside of the Red Square area, you can have plenty of walking before getting anywhere very interesting, so you’ll need to take the metro a lot if you really want to explore the city. Maps are deceiving here too, it will always be further than it looks.

bugatti yacht top speed

Another reason it’s less walkable than Saint-Petersburg is its completely different set-up. Moscow’s streets are mostly contstructed in rings with narrow, winding streets in-between. This is common with medieval city cities that used to be confined by walls, but you usually don’t have it in a city this massive. Saint-Petersburg has a more grid-like pattern that also uses the canals to help you know your way around. When it comes to navigating on foot in Moscow, it can be more difficult, so bring a map and take the metro when needed. It’s why Moscow’s metro carries more passengers per day than the London and Paris subways combined.

Explore other areas if you have time

Moscow is really big. While most people stay around the Red Square within the Boulevard Ring, there’s so much more to the city. I covered some other spots outside of this circle, but if you really want to see the city, you’ll need time. If you do have time, some other areas I’d check out first are Zamoskvarechye, along some of the south and western Moscow.

bugatti yacht top speed

Inspiration:

For some more inspiration, you can look through the Street Photography of Moscow photographer Artem Zhitenev  and check out 33 of my photos taken in Moscow .

Conclusion:

Moscow’s name brings a certain mystique, but once you’re there it might bring a different atmosphere than you expect. It’s big and sprawling, but beautiful in many ways. It can feel like a European capital on a grand scale, but you can definitely find its Russian side in there.

bugatti yacht top speed
