Steeler 59S Long Range

Specifications.

59 foot yacht

If you are looking for a go-anywhere motoryacht that can effortlessly cruise where you choose to explore, the 59S Long Range may well be the answer. The launch model for this size was the extraordinary Ocean Camp , the recipient of an amazing amount of input from the Norwegian couple for whom she was built. In fact, you could say that they designed the boat as they knew to the finest detail exactly what they wanted. Our job at Steeler was to make it all work in practice… And we did that rather well.

Ocean Camp enables her owners – and you, should you commission a 59S Long Range – to enjoy self-supporting adventures in an eco-friendly way. Her innovative S-line hull means the yacht uses only 2.66 litres of fuel per nm at displacement speed. A sporty lifestyle on land and sea is supported by bespoke features such as al fresco gym, hammock, storage for bikes, skis and kayaks, dry and wet storage for the diving equipment, a foredeck helm, a kitchen island, a bread oven… And much more besides

59 foot yacht

The wheelhouse of the 59S Long Range measures 7.30 x 3.60 metres, which in combination with the cockpit generates a vast single-level living and entertainment area. In addition to a full-beam master bedroom amidships, there is a lovely guest suite in the bow that radiates five-star luxury thanks to its 2.30-metre headroom and ensuite sliding doors. An additional guest cabin completes Ocean Camp’s interior. The yacht also has space for a tender and other watersport toys.

Built in steel, the 59S Long Range offers you the speed, elegance, low fuel consumption and countless other comforts of Steeler’s patented S-design hull. Read more about this foundation for your dream motoryacht here .

Carver 59 Marquis

  • By Chris Caswell
  • Updated: October 4, 2007

Every business experiences defining moments or turning points that change the course of its future. For Carver Yachts, the introduction of the 59 Marquis is likely to be such a moment. More than just the largest Carver ever built, the 59 Marquis marks a significant change in design for the successful builder. In many ways, she is a propitious blend of Pulaski, Wisconsin, and Venice, Italy.

Carver wanted to offer a larger yacht to the dedicated clientele who have moved up through the builder’s line. Mike Murawski, Carver’s vice president of sales and marketing, said the company surveyed the market and came to an interesting conclusion: The number of European imports was growing.

Initially, the European invasion was fueled by a favorable exchange rate. At the same time, European yachts raised the bar for styling. While their popularity reflected a shift in American design preferences, American builders had not yet responded to it.

To meet this challenge, Carver approached the Italian design team of Nuvolari-Lenard, which had built an illustrious track record working with companies such as Ferretti and Perini Navi. The team understood American practicality, too, after working with Palmer Johnson to create its Corniche line of yachts. According to Murawski, the builder and designers had an immediate rapport.

With the 59 Marquis, Nuvolari-Lenard did not reinvent Carver. Instead, it took the essence of Carver styling and-pardon the expression-“Europeanized it. From any angle, this is a good-looking yacht, without the feel of a floating condo.

Swoopy windows and swept-back lines give the 59 Marquis a 30-knot look even when she is at anchor. Touches such as the high bulwarks encircling the deck are not just about styling, but about safety. She has solid American practicality, too, as seen in her oversize bollards (used in place of cleats). These European details combined with reliable U.S. technology make the 59 Marquis a Ferretti from the wheat fields, a Ferrari with the engine of a Chevy.

The transom platform is actually two: The first extends 3 feet, 4 inches, and the second, movable platform stretches another 3 feet, 7 inches. Electrically raised and lowered, the immersible outer platform is designed to carry, launch and retrieve a tender or PWC, eliminating the need for a crane. Also, the platform can be semi-submerged and used as a “beach for swimmers and divers. The cockpit isn’t particularly large, but with a considerable flying bridge and an all-purpose transom platform, its size is not a concern.

The saloon is entered through a beautifully curved stainless-steel-and-glass slider that foretells the European feel. Inside, the saloon stretches unbroken from the door to the pilothouse windshield. The wavelike-curve of its overhead conveys a sense of airiness.

Inviting UltraLeather settees and chairs, a rich cherry finish and soft illumination from recessed halogen lights bespeak Mediterranean. Carver hasn’t yet achieved the incredible glossy finish of a Sunseeker or Ferretti, but Murawski pointed out that European builders, unregulated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, can use products not permitted stateside. He did say that Carver has found a way to match that gloss-legally-and that it will be used on future boats.

Our test boat, provided by Bayport Yachts of Newport Beach, California, had a full settee to port with stowage underneath. The starboard settee is actually a double recliner, and after trying it, you’ll wonder why the recliner hasn’t made a complete transition to yachts from the couch potato’s living room. The 59 Marquis also excels in details such as crown molding, inset Roman window shades and pomele sapele inlaid accents in the joinery.

Up two steps is the pilothouse, with a china and glassware cabinet to port and an open galley to starboard. With black granite counters and a center island with double sink, the galley is perfectly situated between the saloon and helm area. It has an under-counter Sub-Zero refrigerator with separate freezer and a Sharp microwave/convection oven, but the two-burner electric cook top might be limiting.

The helm area is stylish and futuristic-looking with a curved fiberglass instrument console and an overhead panel. Engine monitors are a bit hard to see, and space for electronics is limited, but they can be mounted to one side or in tilt-up panels. A large wraparound dinette is to starboard. An optional, electrically operated pantograph door opens onto the port deck. Though it blocks the side deck a bit, it allows the skipper to help with the line handling.

Curved stairs lead to the lower deck. The steps are gently spaced, and the stairwell is 30 inches wide, making passage easy. On the lower level is a stylish foyer with an inlaid black granite sole embedded with tiny LED lights, and a full-size washer/dryer is behind a panel in the fluted wainscoting.

The aft master stateroom, with a king berth under a cherry overhead treatment, two big cedar-lined lockers and walls of bureaus, is spectacular. The granite-lined master head is equally spacious and has a long bathtub that looks perfect for soaking.

The VIP stateroom is forward and includes an island berth, and a TV/DVD player that hinges neatly from the overhead and full-length hanging lockers. There is access to a head with a large shower.

The roomy staterooms extract a penalty from the third guest cabin, which has stacked bunks in a miniscule space. The hanging locker is so narrow that closing the door on more than a few shirts will turn it into a clothes press. Clearly, the 59 Marquis is intended for two couples occasionally joined by kids or grandkids.

Thoughtfully spaced stairs provide access to the flying bridge. The helm console has good space for electronics, twin pedestal chairs and a double-bench seat backed against a wet bar. A curved dinette is aft to starboard. The boat deck is designed to handle tenders up to 14 feet with an optional crane.

Stairs from the cockpit lead to the full-height engineroom, which is a real delight. An optional crew cabin can be fitted into the lazarette space.

Standard on the 59 is a pair of 660 hp Cummins. Our test boat was equipped with 825 hp MTU Series 60 diesels, which gave us a top speed just shy of 30 knots (I’d expect 30-plus knots after break-in). The MTUs are clean-running, and the notched transom prevents fumes from creating a station wagon effect. With extensive Soundown acoustical insulation, the boat was extremely quiet, even at wide-open throttle.

The four-cycle MTUs are a good choice for the 59. The boat makes full use of her extra 330 horsepower to come up fast and flat from idle to top speed (no trim tabs needed), giving her a fast cruise in the mid-20-knot range. Under way, the 59 had a solid feel. Though we turned back on our wake, she didn’t throw enough water for us to test a rough ride. With the 59’s standard Volvo bow and stern thrusters, we squeezed neatly into a slip just inches wider than her beam.

The 59 meets EU Class I standards with a solid fiberglass hull bottom and foam and balsa coring in her topsides. The superstructure has an internal aluminum grid that bolts to plates in the deck, so the fiberglass laminate doesn’t carry the load, resulting in a strong monocoque structure. The U-shape rails are through-bolted to a steel plate embedded in the foam-cored stringers.

Put the Carver 59 Marquis on your must-see list. If this is the opening salvo in the American response to European imports, then it’s sure to be a very brief war.

Swiftsure Yachts

Graceful under sail, comfortable, safe and easy to handle, the McCurdy and Rhodes designed Sou’wester 59 is another in a long line of fine yachts built by the Hinckley Company of Southwest Harbor, Maine. From her gleaming Awlgripped topsides with signature gold leaf cove stripe to her masterfully constructed cherry interior with solid teak and holly sole, Sula  is a showpiece of high-quality construction. But she’s not just a beautiful yacht, having proven herself as a capable offshore cruiser with a passage to New Zealand in her wake. Sula’s protected center cockpit, well-conceived three stateroom interior arrangement, systems access, and ample storage space above and below decks add to her allure as a long-distance cruiser. Push button mainsail and genoa furling and powered winches allow easy shorthanded sailing. A powerful bow thruster aids in maneuvering in small spaces, truly making her a vessel that may be handled by a cruising couple without extra crew.

Over the last 10 years, the current owners (the second) have optimized Sula for cruising with upgraded systems and features. A fold down swim platform and Simpson powered davits were installed to manage the tender. A large solar array was installed on the davits. The standing rigging was replaced and a hydraulic Harken furler added in 2021. A complete B&G electronics package was installed in 2020. The engine room insulation was upgraded to reducing engine noise at cruise RPM’s by 7db in the salon and 12db in the aft cabin.

A viewing of this heirloom quality USA-built cruising yacht is highly encouraged. The sellers recently purchased a larger cruising sailboat making this elegant cruiser available.

DECK & HULL:

The Sou’wester 59 was designed by McCurdy and Rhodes for The Hinckley Company. The hull shape features moderate deadrise with a long fin keel with centerboard and spade rudder. Her hull is constructed of E-glass and Kevlar laminates and balsa coring with vinylester resin using SCRIMP vacuum sealed resin infusion technology producing a strong and light structure. Core is replaced with solid laminate in the stem, keel, hull to deck flange, rudder post, around through hull fittings and other high load areas. Her ballast is cast lead secured with seventeen 1” stainless bolts.  The centerboard is constructed of reinforced fiberglass with a bronze leading edge weighing 450 pounds. It is raised and lowered via a line that leads to the cockpit. The rudder is constructed of cored fiberglass with a 6” diameter ¾” thick rudder post. The exterior finish of the hull is clear isopthalic gelcoat coated with “Jade Mist Green” Awlgrip. Her molded cove stripe is finished in gold leaf and there is a double white boot stripe. Her bottom is red antifoul. A teak rubrail with stainless cap runs along the sheer.   SULA was hauled in April 2022 for bottom paint.  A new PSS shaft seal was installed during this haulout.

The deck is constructed of hand laid E-glass and Kevlar with PVC foam core used on horizontal surfaces. Vertical surfaces are not cored. The foam is replaced with high density core in high load areas and is eliminated in very high load locations such as primary winch pads and the hull to deck joint.

Her deck is finished in off white gelcoat with tan molded diamond pattern nonskid. The quality of finish and deck details are immaculate – with raised molded stanchion bases and inset genoa tracks which avoids stubbed toes. A substantial teak toe rail surrounds the deck. Teak handrails run along the cabin top and teak eyebrow trim and dorade boxes provide accents. Tall double lifelines provide security and there are boarding gates midships to port and starboard. Removable stainless and teak ladder mounts on the toe rail sailtrack for boarding alongside low docks. On deck storage is ample and well configured, with a large lazarette aft, propane and fuel lockers, auxiliary anchor locker space at the foredeck, and an interior anchor locker which may be accessed through the large hatch in the forward shower. The comfortable and protected center cockpit features tall seat backs and ample seating. The cockpit sole is teak and there is a removable teak step at the aft end of the cockpit allowing good visibility forward. The molded fiberglass pedestal has a stainless grab bar, 48” Edson wheel, Ritchie compass, engine gauges and controls, single lever throttle/shift/thruster control, furling switches, and switch panel for navigation lights. There is a varnished teak drink holder and cockpit table. A tan canvas dodger and bimini with stainless frame and grab rails protects the cockpit

SAILS & RIGGING:

SULA is easily sailed with a shorthanded crew. With modest freeboard for a vessel of her size, she is easily boarded, even from low docks. Her spade rudder and bow thruster allow for easy maneuvering in tight spaces. Once away from her moorings, the mainsail and genoa, mounted on powered furlers, are deployed by push button. The mainsail outhaul and genoa sheets lead to powered winches at the cockpit.  The staysail furler is currently removed and is stored on the dock.

In 2021 the mast was pulled and all new rod rigging installed by Tutmark Rigging.  New mast wires were run for the VHF and other antennas.  LED masthead and spreader lights were installed.  All halyards and rope clutches on the mast were replaced.  Wire running backstay pennants were replaced with Spectra pennants.  The hydraulic vang and backstay cylinders were also rebuilt.

  • Hall Spars carbon fiber mast with Hood push-button hydraulic in-mast furling system

ISMERIA 59'

Ismeria 59′.

The ISMERIA 59′ is an aluminium monohull, built and optimised to make its interior an extraordinary place to live on warm waters and icy seas.

The design of this blue water yacht was carried out in collaboration with her owner, who benefits from decades of nautical experience and long offshore sailing.

This 59-foot vessel, designed for sailing in blazing sunshine or arctic winds, has just left the Normandy Yacht Service shipyard. The interior fittings, deck hardware, numerous technical installations and rigging will be integrated in the south of France.

starboard bow ISMERIA 59

Description of ISMERIA 59′

The ISMERIA 59′, our new design, is conceived for sailing in extreme latitudes (far North and far South).

The optimization of the vision towards the outside has been a real point of reflection for our agency . Thus, thanks to the use of reversed glazing , the owner will be able to sail without the constraint of the sun’s reflection or the accumulation of rainwater, while attenuating the effect of heat perceived by the windows. Equipped with an exclusively indoor helm station, which also serves as a lookout and chart table, the ISMERIA 59′, an aluminium sailing centreboarder, fully designed for sailing from the inside.

The captain and owner of this boat wanted to sail protected from rain, cold and sun. His proposal to have an interior helm station and a roof cap extended to the mainsail track fully met his needs and was totally in line with our design expectations.

Technical sheet

On the outside, an imposing roof finished by a large cap covers and protects the manoeuvring cockpit. The whole thing is covered with solar panels to make our sloop fully autonomous in energy . Under this large canopy, a spacious and perfectly protected cockpit will welcome owners and guests and will offer the latter all the rigging manoeuvres. The sail plan is composed of a mainsail and a genoa as well as a staysail on a self-tacking system. It is also possible to add a gennaker or an asymmetrical spinnaker at the end of the gaff.

Inside, in a deck saloon on the same level as the cockpit, there is a fully equipped kitchen opening onto a large saloon. The view through the windscreens is totally panoramic and allows the boat to be steered away from the heat or cold outside. Steering wheel and engine controls are grouped together in a protected helm station with a comfortable watch seat.

Below the living area is a spacious owner’s cabin and two comfortable double cabins. These cabins have two well-equipped bathrooms. At the front of the boat, there is a large enclosed storage area. An aft locker is accessible from the cockpit and from a staircase dedicated to the interior of the boat (additional storage, and technical hold).

This aluminium dinghy is equipped with a twin shaft engine and two suspended rudders. It is offered here as a full dinghy but can easily be fitted with a fixed lead keel.

The ISMERIA philosophy

For several years now, our agency has been working hard to design the ideal travel boat . A yacht designed for deep-sea sailing but with the ergonomics that come from living at anchor.

This is the concept of the “mono-maran” : an ergonomic design on the same level as the cockpit and deck saloon to optimise and simplify movement between the interior and exterior.

It was the meeting with an experienced shipowner, who fully shared our feelings about contemporary ocean sailing, its expectations and solutions… that initiated the project and the development of the ISMERIA concept.

How many times a day do we use these famous stairs ? 4 or even 5 steps, sometimes steep, which all too often seem to take us “down to the cellar” when the light and the vision of the sea are “up there”… Why go down when the cockpit, the guests and life is upstairs? These steps are numerous and potentially dangerous when bringing up dishes, plates or simply a pocket book while the boat is moving at sea and sometimes even at anchor. Having an interior in line with the cockpit is the choice that we, the catamaran designers and builders, have adopted. And what a pleasure it is to go from the outside to the inside without having to lose visibility, to continue to keep an eye on the surrounding boats during a watch and not to take any risks in your movements! This is our philosophy of the sailing boat of voyage, it is the philosophy of our range ISMERIA!

So, what about the helm station and the view from the cockpit ? The view forward is certainly disturbed by our superstructure, although it is almost completely glazed:

Nowadays, when sailing, the helmsman is not really behind his helm anymore. He moves, with a pilot’s remote control around his neck, between the galley, his electronics area (or former “chart table”), the saloon, the winches and the mast step. With the exception of manoeuvring periods of course, when do we actually use the tiller or wheel on a travel unit?

The wheel takes up space in a cockpit that is already too small. If the tiller is used so infrequently, why install it where space is at a premium and most exposed? On the ISMERIA range of boats, we have opted for the interior helm station!

The steering wheel and engine controls are located in the middle of the boat, right in front of the panoramic windscreens, which are inverted to prevent reflections, and allow a perfect view forward, both when sailing on the high seas and when manoeuvring in port. The electronic displays are centralised. There is no need to duplicate them on the outside AND on the inside. The engine controls are protected and the chart table remains close to the helmsman during manoeuvres. During the day, but especially at night, the captain is protected, inside, much less exposed.

Of course, the cockpit retains its winches, blockers and blocks. Numerous hat windows allow the sails to be seen and trimmed just like on a conventional sailboat. We luff with the autopilot, we adjust then we shoot… it is the navigation of today and ISMERIA wants to be in the era of time!
