Inside the megayacht that looks like the Batmobile ... but at £16MILLION, you'll need Bruce Wayne's bank account to buy it

Whether it's being used as a swanky party venue, floating showroom or private vessel, the Xhibitionist is certainly a boat designed to turn heads.

The 75 metre long vessel is an extravagant, multipurpose yacht which even comes with its own supercar.

Designed by Swedish-based car designer Eduard Gray, the slick ship's interior is decked out in Art Nouveau decor, with classic touches like a Steinway piano, a dual staircase, and fine crystal Baccarat lighting.

But you'll need Bruce Wayne's bank account if you want to buy one. The lead-in price is 2 million euros (£16million) for a 'basic' model.

Keeping with its automotive theme, the Xhibitionist has space for a car showroom and 'engine room', complete with exposed engines displayed behind glass walls.

Solar panels fold out from under a sleek car-hood-like deck to power the ship, and the panels double up as a concert space or helipad with space for three helicopters.

The fly deck even features a Jacuzzi, and by night, the superyacht glows in the dark thanks to oceanLED lighting.

As for the Xhibitionist's price? 'As far as investments go, the 75 m luxury yacht Xhibitionist concept resembles more of a real estate and marketing venture than a yacht.'

If you have to ask, you know you can't afford it.

bruce wayne yacht

Batman, the caped crusader, and Robin, the boy wonder, learn that Commodore Schmidlapp, a millionaire distiller, is in danger aboard his yacht and rush to his aid by batcopter, but the yacht disappears beneath Batman as he is descending the batladder. The dynamic duo learns that The Catwoman, The Joker, The Penguin, and The Riddler have joined forces to eliminate Batman and Robin and eventually control the world. (The vanishing yacht was a decoy to lure Batman and Robin from the place where the villains were hijacking the yacht of Commander Redhead and holding him prisoner because they want his invention, a dehydrater that turns humans into dust that can be returned to human form with the addition of water.) After many encounters the villains are still loose, and The Penguin goes to Security Council headquarters. There he turns nine diplomats into dust, which he places in nine test tubes. Batman and Robin, however, outwit and capture the quartet of criminals and rescue Commander Redhead. As they are about to reconstitute the nine diplomats, the commander sneezes on the test tubes, scattering the dust. Batman does his best to sort the dust into nine homogeneous piles, but when the dust is restored to human form, the Russian speaks Greek, the Greek speaks English, and so on. But Batman is satisfied that the world is safe from the four fiends for the time being.

Originally planned as the pilot film for the "Batman" (1966/II) TV series, the movie was instead produced between the show's first and second seasons. The producers took advantage of the larger budget to have a number of new Bat-gadgets constructed, such as the BatBoat.

Julie Newmar did not appear in the film because she had signed to do another project and could not get out of the commitment in time to work on this movie.

Although Sterling Holloway is listed in the credits as Col. Terry, all his scenes were, in fact, cut from the film as released.

The BatBoat was built especially for the film by the Glastron boat company. In exchange for their cooperation, the producers agreed to hold the film's world premiere in Austin, Texas, Glastron's headquarters.

The original trailer includes specially-shot footage of the 4 supervillains outlining their plans for the Dynamic Duo. Still frames from these sequences are visible when Batman and Commissioner Gordon watch a closed-circuit TV update on villains at large. The trailer also includes specially-shot footage of Batman and Robin addressing the audience about their first motion picture.

The film was inspired by the ABC Television series, Batman .

'Zack Snyder's Justice League' Ending Explained: Epilogue's Cameos and Dangling Plot Threads

The four-hour Snyder Cut of the DC superhero movie, now available to buy digitally, doesn't have any post-credits scenes, but it leaves you with plenty to chew on.

bruce wayne yacht

Batman plays a major role in the final scenes.

Zack Snyder's much-anticipated cut of Justice League landed on Max  in 2021, bringing the director's original vision for the DC superheroes to the streaming service . The film, which is now available to buy digitally, came out more than three years after Joss Whedon's 2017 theatrical cut disappointed fans and sparked a massive, intense fan campaign  (reportedly partially driven by bots ) demanding the release of the Snyder Cut.

It's also four hours long, so you'd better be sitting comfortably with plenty of snacks before you dive into Batman and company's epic adventure. I can save you a little time by telling you there are no mid- or post-credits scenes as we've been conditioned to expect in superhero movies. Instead, the last 20 minutes or so act as an epilogue.

Let's take a look at what happens at the end of the film and mull over what it might mean for the future of the DC Extended Universe . Be warned, full SPOILERS lurk ahead like a creepy clown.

Ah-ha-ha-ha.

spoilers-dceu

Scene 1: Deja vu on Lex's lovely yacht

This scene might look familiar if you saw the theatrical cut. After stopping Steppenwolf from bringing Darkseid and the armies of the planet Apokolips to Earth, our heroes go back to their lives and generally get happy endings. However, a guard at Arkham Asylum discovers some bald guy has taken the place of Lex Luthor (who was arrested at the end of Batman v Superman ), giving the supervillain a chance to escape.

We find Lex (Jesse Eisenberg) on a yacht, where he's joined by Slade Wilson, aka Deathstroke (Joe Manganiello). The mercenary has a grudge against Batman -- it seems the Bat was responsible for Deathstroke losing an eye -- and Lex reveals that the Caped Crusader's real name is Bruce Wayne so Deathstroke can kill the hero.

What does it mean?

This one is pretty straightforward: Batman and Deathstroke's battle is about to get more personal. Alfred had better watch out. Lex also says he has "more important things" to do -- possibly linked to the fact that he knows Darkseid is coming . What a scamp.

The scene is also linked to the scrapped Ben Affleck solo Batman movie, which would have featured Deathstroke as the main villain. It's a little odd to get a reference to a canceled project (which has since been replaced by the  Robert Pattinson movie ), but this plot thread could be picked up somewhere down the line.

Lex Luthor Justice League

Sneaky Lex Luthor is hanging out on a boat.

A shorter, worse version of this scene played during the credits of Whedon's theatrical version -- Lex suggests he and Deathstroke form a "league of our own" to counter the Justice League. The new one sends Deathstroke on a more focused, Batman-murdering path rather than just having him join a team of baddies (or manage an all-female baseball team ).

There's still no explanation for Lex suddenly dressing like the Gene Hackman version of the character, though.

New Movies Coming in 2023 From Marvel, Netflix, DC and More

Scene 2: A trip to the post-Apokolips

The final scene jumps into a dark, yucky future (which Snyder previously teased in BvS ) in which Darkseid's forces have laid waste to Earth. However, there's still hope -- Batman, Cyborg, the Atlantean Mera, a mohawked Deathstroke (it seems he and Bats buried the hatchet) and Flash have formed a resistance group.

And there's one more person: Joker (Jared Leto), who's got an excellently creepy laugh that sounds like a creaky door. There's a ball of tension between him and the Dark Knight, as he taunts Bats about the loved ones he's lost -- his parents and his "adopted son." When Batman warns Joker to be careful, the clown adds a little more dramatic spice.

"You need me, to help you undo this world you created by letting her die," he says. "Poor Lois, how she suffered so."

snyder-cut-justice-league-joker.png

Joker also wonders about the number of alternate timelines in which Batman has let the world be destroyed because he lacks "the cojones" to die himself. The clown gives Batman a Joker playing card that signifies a truce between them. If Bats wants to renew their beef, he just needs to tear up the card.

Batman counters by revealing that Harley Quinn (the Joker's sometimes girlfriend) died in his arms, but begged Batman to give the Joker a slow death when he kills him. Batman also drops the F-bomb here, because this post-apocalyptic scene about death and vengeance needed to be extra hardcore.

Their plans, threats and profanity all seem to be rendered moot by the arrival of Superman (back in his red and blue costume), whose eyes glow a sinister red as he prepares to get his laser on. Hope someone has a lump of kryptonite handy (they don't).

Bruce wakes up from this apparent nightmare in his sweet lakeside pad in the present, pre-apocalyptic world and finds Martian Manhunter (Harry Lennix) outside. The alien hero warns Bruce that Darkseid will be back looking for the Anti-Life Equation, and pretty much offers to join the Justice League.

Darkseid Justice League

We get a glimpse of the post-Darkseid world, and it doesn't like a fun place to be.

Lots to unpack here, but it sure does seem like a setup for some awesome sequels (I love seeing realities where the bad guys won). The Joker scene was the only new one shot for the Snyder Cut -- everything else was preexisting footage.

"After I realized there would be no more Zack Snyder DC movies, my biggest regret was that there was no Batman/Joker confrontation scene," the director said in production notes. "They both went through a series of films and never ran into each other. It didn't make sense to me. So, I thought maybe I could remedy that."

The dark future scene implies Darkseid returned to Earth in his hunt for the Anti-Life Equation, a mathematical formula that would allow him to dominate all life, and took over. You might remember allusions to this around an hour and 40 minutes earlier in the movie, when the Kryptonian ship warned Cyborg against activating the Mother Box.

p166-2d-pt3-v4026-0127-210127-19mj-g-r709-333148

Cyborg gave us a look at how the dark future came to be.

At that point, we got a glimpse of a reality in which a dead Wonder Woman was being burned on a funeral pyre, Aquaman had been impaled by Darkseid and Superman was cradling a charred corpse, with Darkseid looming over him.

We get confirmation that Lois Lane was the corpse, and her death left Superman emotionally devastated enough for the big baddie to dominate his will. It sure looks like Lois was killed by Darkseid's Omega Beam laser eye move too, which makes Supes joining him extra nasty -- he really should just punch Darkseid into the sun. We also don't know what role Batman played in Lois' death.

Making the situation even worse is the fact that Lois is pregnant -- we see a positive test in her nightstand during the movie. The situation is pretty similar to the one seen in the Injustice games , in which Superman becomes a ruthless dictator after Joker tricks him into killing a pregnant Lois and blowing up Metropolis.

This epilogue also links to two moments in BvS: the Flash's warning , where future Flash uses his powers to jump back through time and warns Bruce to fear Superman, and the "Knightmare" sequence , in which Bruce dreams of a dark future in which Superman has gone bad. The events seen in the Knightmare presumably take place after the JL scene, since Batman is alone, gets captured and is ultimately murdered by Superman.

It's not clear why Superman is wearing his red and blue suit again in the dark future -- surely the moody black outfit he wore after getting resurrected would have been a better option? In the comics, Superman wore a black suit specifically designed to help him absorb more solar radiation after returning from the dead . If that's the case in the movies, he didn't need it by the time of the dark future events. It also acts as visual differentiator between the Snyder Cut and theatrical versions of Justice League.

p166-2d-pt4-v4064-0209-210210-26mj-g-r709-373900

Back in black.

In the years since the theatrical version filled fans with disappointment, Snyder has confirmed some plot details around the Knightmare future. Flash used a Cosmic Treadmill -- a time machine he activates with his powers -- to travel back in an effort to avert the dark future. When he sees BvS Bruce, he realizes he's gone back too far in the timeline (since Bruce hadn't met Flash at that point).

The scene at the end of Justice League presumably takes place before Flash goes back, and the team is likely preparing for his journey through time. Flash also appears to be wearing the armor from the Justice League epilogue when he warns BvS Bruce.

Snyder  told Vanity Fair his original plan was for the dark future timeline to be reversed, but Batman would die. The mantle would have been taken by Bruce Kent, the powerless son of Lois and Clark.

It's unclear why Joker is necessary to undo this crappy future or how Harley died, but it's entirely believable that this version of Batman would end the clown as soon as he can -- he has no major issue with killing at any point in the timeline.

Flash Justice League

He'll save every one of us.

The "adopted son" line alludes to Robin's death at Joker's hands. You might remember seeing a graffitied Robin costume in BvS -- this was intended to be the Dick Grayson version of the character. In the comics, Joker killed Jason Todd (the second Robin).

Since there are no plans for more Snyder-led DC movies, it's possible this plotline will never continue or it'll play out in next year's Flash movie. It'll see Affleck as Batman again, along with Michael Keaton's Batman returning to the version of the character from the Tim Burton series  and Pattinson playing a completely new one in Matt Reeves ' The Batman . We might also see Martian Manhunter show up in The Flash.

My brain is sleepy now; too much time travel and alternate realities. Wake me up when Flash is out.

The Untold Truth Of Bruce Wayne

We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Tossing the keys to his shiny Lamborghini at the valet and waltzing through the front doors of an opulent dining establishment with two ladies in tow is how Bruce Wayne maintains a playboy exterior to divert the public's attention from his real job:  Batman . The world is well-acquainted with the Dark Knight, but Bruce Wayne often takes the back seat to his more aggressively thrilling alter-ego. Bruce is simply one side of the Batman coin, anchoring the hero to the real world so he can maintain human social connections while immersing himself in the muck and mire of Gotham City on a nightly basis.

Bruce Wayne's story is one of tragedy. Not only were his parents killed when he was a young boy, but it's also completely clear that Bruce Wayne, in a way, died that very night as well. Whatever ambitions or aspirations he had as a young lad were laid to rest at the altar of Batman, a figure that consumed his obsessive need to eradicate criminality and fight for justice.

This loss of innocence forced Bruce to face the world in all of its potential ugliness. That's something parents often attempt to shield their children from until they're at an age that they can properly cope. However, Bruce's life was fractured in two the moment his parents were killed. Everything following his parent's death was consumed by his need to ensure that he's protecting other potential young Bruce Waynes from experiencing his trauma. This is the untold story of Bruce Wayne.

Bruce Wayne's name is an amalgamation of two historical figures

For a master detective capable of thwarting high-profile criminal plots, it was important that his name was inspired. Bill Finger and Bob Kane did just that, taking two notable historical figures as the inspiration for Bruce Wayne . The name Bruce came from King Bruce I of Scottish notoriety. Robert the Bruce was known to be one of the most famous warriors during his time. He led Scotland during the First War of Scottish Independence from England. Because of that, he is seen in Scottish history as a hero among the people.

The name Wayne was derived from the brigadier general Anthony Wayne of the American Revolution. He led several battles during the Revolutionary War. Wayne was highly decorated for his exploits during the war, being recognized by George Washington and promoted to commanding officer. Because he was a fierce fighter and leader, he garnered the nick name "Mad Anthony Wayne."

In fact, it was established in "World's Finest" #186 that Anthony Wayne is an ancestor of Bruce Wayne in DC Comics canon. In that comic, Batman had the opportunity to meet his ancestor as he traveled to the past. It's clear Bob Kane and Bill Finger had an affinity for revolutionaries who fought against tyranny, and wanted to instill those qualities in their creation.

Bruce Wayne had a brother

Most people know Bruce Wayne to be the singular child of Thomas and Martha Wayne, who became the sole heir to their entire estate. However, "World's Finest" #223 tells the tale of Thomas Wayne Jr., the eldest son of the Waynes.

He was three years older than Bruce, and mentally unstable due to severe head trauma suffered as a child from a car accident. After becoming a danger to himself and others, Thomas and Martha made the decision to have him institutionalized. Thomas Jr. eventually changed his surname to conceal the fact that he was a Wayne. Although Bruce's parents intended to tell him of his older brother, they were killed before they could do so.

In time, Thomas Jr. resurfaced as the villain known as the Boomerang Killer. His story ended in heroism, ultimately, as he protected Bruce from gunfire by sacrificing himself.

In the wake of the New 52 shift in DC Comics continuity, Thomas Wayne Jr. still existed but was now Bruce's younger brother. This new story said that following his premature birth as the result of a car accident, his ensuing mental health issues had him sent to a home for children. However, the Court of Owls nabbed the boy and trained him to become a Talon — a deadly assassin of the shadowy court. Whichever way that you look at the story of Thomas Wayne Jr., it's a tragic one.

Bruce took Dick Grayson in because of their kinship over family tragedy

Dick Grayson was Batman's first sidekick under the title of Robin, although many more would later earn the title. As a youngster, Dick and his biological mother and father performed an acrobatic show known as the Flying Graysons. Dick's parents were murdered during a performance by a ruthless mafioso named Tony Zucco, hellbent on extorting money from the circus that employed the family.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, Bruce took Dick as his legal ward, training the athletic young boy to refocus his anger and emotions in more productive, albeit vigilante-adjacent, ways. It's obvious that Bruce felt a connection with Dick Grayson, as they both shared the same trauma. This led Bruce to step in as a father figure for Grayson, something the hero never quite had after his own parents died, outside of the companionship of his faithful butler, Alfred.

Bruce received a message from his father from an alternate timeline

Comic books are often clouded by messy timelines, rewritten history, and dead characters brought back to life. But such things can also provide remarkable character insight.

Thomas Wayne received a quasi-resurrection during 2011's "Flashpoint" storyline, which had the Flash traveling back in time to save his own mother from being murdered. In doing so, he alters history dramatically, leaving present-day littered with chaos as Aquaman goes to war with Wonder Woman and Superman never lands in Kansas — instead captured by the government and kept in isolation for study.

Perhaps most interesting of these alternate realities, however, is a depiction of Bruce Wayne being killed as a young boy by the alley assailant instead of his parents.

We see his mother go mad (in essence becoming the Joker), while his father becomes Batman to combat the criminal element. This Thomas Wayne, however, does not share Batman's aversion to lethal force; he carries firearms and murders criminals regularly. When the Flash reveals to Thomas that he changed history, Thomas does everything he can to help Flash correct the course of events so his son can live again. Once they succeed, Thomas Wayne gives the Flash a letter to deliver to Bruce.

Heading off into the speed force, the Flash manages to set things back to normal once again. He meets Batman (once again Bruce) in the Batcave, retells the story of what occurred, and gives him the letter from his father. With tears in his eyes, Batman tells the Flash, "You're one hell of a messenger. Thank you."

Bruce Wayne is actually Batman's mask

Every night, Bruce Wayne puts on the cape and cowl and scrambles across the rooftops of Gotham City hunting criminals who plague the city. As a character, Batman has a massive array of offensive and defensive toys that enable him to gain the upper hand, always able to out-think and out-strategize his opponents.

But much like Superman "pretends" to be Clark Kent to fit in with humanity, the Caped Crusader "pretends" to be Bruce when he needs something from humanity that a guy in a cowl can't get. His mask is the Bruce Wayne playboy façade he puts on every day as he steps out into the streets of Gotham City or interacts with associates at Wayne Enterprises. Bruce Wayne essentially died along with his parents, his hopes and dreams for the future eviscerated, and Batman was born out of that tragedy and has been the dominant personality ever since.

Ultimately, Bruce Wayne/Batman couldn't care less about fancy cars, trophy girlfriends, or lavish surroundings. He's more concerned with ensuring that the Joker doesn't hurt any more innocent Gothamites. When he's among the people, he's wearing a mask that protects his real identity as the Batman.

Bruce Wayne's intellect surpasses his Justice League colleagues

He has an endless supply of batarangs and batmobiles, but Batman's greatest asset might be his mind. Bruce Wayne has one of the most capable minds in the entirety of the DC superhero catalog, with the ability to manipulate and properly strategize against his opponents, a skill he has honed and always uses to stay prepared. As a result, Batman is rarely caught off guard and always seems to have contingency plans on top of contingency plans. It's a crucial element of his success, since he is one of the few heroes that doesn't have powers, and he is constantly surrounded by beings who do.

During Grant Morrison's "JLA: Tower of Babel" storyline, Ra's al Ghul targets the Justice League , managing to take down nearly every member including Superman. The trick, however, is that those in the Justice League realize that the methods of their downfall or incapacitation contain specific details that are secretive or unique to each of the members. In reality, Batman made contingency plans for dismantling any member of the Justice League should they go rogue, and Ra's Al Ghul merely stole those secret plans and used them against the group. While Batman's compatriots felt betrayed, it became clear that the superhero had simply planned for the worst-case scenario. Such plans typically help the Justice League accomplish great feats — in this case, a villain simply got the better of him.

Bruce Wayne helps fund the Justice League

It's easy to think, "Hey, Bruce Wayne is a billionaire, so of course he can fund all of the Justice League 's operations." However, that's not entirely the case. Maintaining the Watch Tower that sits in Earth's orbit is a bit much, even for a billionaire. Besides, if Bruce Wayne was the sole donor for the Justice League, it might seem a bit suspicious, and would connect the dots to Batman's identity rather quickly.

While Bruce does contribute to the Justice League, he has actively secured other donors as well, including Michael Holt (also known as Mr. Terrific), Oliver Queen (the Green Arrow), Maxwell Lord, Ted Kord, the United States government, and even the villainous Lex Luthor has, on occasion, been known to donate heavily to the League, whether for appearances or other benefits. Regardless, Bruce may provide a lot of the financial backing that the league needs to operate, but he hasn't done it alone, maintaining a healthy network of monetary avenues for the heroes.

Bruce Wayne trained his mind to create a back-up persona

As Batman, Bruce Wayne has run the gamut of trials and exercises of endurance. In 2008's "Batman R.I.P." written by Grant Morrison , a psychiatrist by the name of Simon Hurt had previously given Bruce Wayne a psychological trigger during an isolation experiment that Bruce had organized – unbeknownst to the billionaire. Later, as part of a secretive organization called the Black Glove, Jezebel Jet got close to Bruce Wayne and became his girlfriend, ultimately learning that he was Batman. In conjunction with the psychiatrist, Jet and Hurt drugged Bruce and caused the collapse of his mind through the trigger word "Zur-En-Arrh."

Bruce would later awaken in alley with no memory. He'd eventually fashion a Batman costume of purple, red, and yellow threads and carry a baseball bat. This is because Bruce had trained his mind to create a back-up persona in the event that his mind ever became corrupted. The Batman of Zur-En Arrh was far more aggressive, and even lethal should he go off the rails. His primary weapon became a baseball bat. In order to keep himself from ever going too far with the bolder and more aggressive Batman, Bruce also ensured he'd see a visual of his conscience in the form of Bat-mite, a small eighth dimension being who'd guide and keep him from ever crossing the line in his quest to restore his psyche. All this proves once again that Bruce Wayne is literally prepared for anything.

Bruce has had many love interests

Batman may be a stoic guardian of Gotham City who sticks to the shadows, but he's also a human being who desires love and companionship (even if he frequently does his best to suppress that need). Throughout his career, across multiple storylines, he's had several love interests. In the Golden Age of comics, Bruce had a dalliance with Vicki Vale, an intrepid reporter who suspected he was Batman; the character would eventually be realized on the big screen by Kim Basinger in Tim Burton's 1989 "Batman."

Batman has also had  many flirtations over the years with Catwoman , or Selina Kyle as she is known among civilians. In most of these storylines, Catwoman becomes fascinated with Batman and toys with him, while he begins to hope that she could possibly be set on a straight and narrow path. Even if it most often doesn't work out, the two characters have an affection for each other, one that sometimes leads to them teaming up.

Then there's Talia al Ghul, daughter of Batman's nemesis Ra's al Ghul. Talia and Bruce share a child by the name of Damian, who eventually becomes a Robin in some storylines, testing his father's patience along the way.

Bruce Wayne has had several other relationships, a few of which are his crime-fighting colleagues. Some of his romantic connections include Black Canary, Batwoman, Jezebel Jet, Wonder Woman, Silver St. Cloud, Julia Pennyworth, and Zatanna among others.

Bruce Wayne fathered multiple children

With such an active love life, Bruce has fathered several children over the years. Not all of them are canon, as some exist in different timelines or universes, but the Wayne genetics are certainly flourishing into future generations. His most famous child is Damian Wayne, a feisty combatant Bruce has had to temper under his tutelage as Robin .

During the Silver Age of comics, Bruce Wayne Jr. made his debut as the son of Bruce and an unknown woman. He fought crime alongside his father and went on multiple adventures with Batman. However, his story was later retconned as a Fortress of Solitude computer simulation, therefore writing him out of existence.

On Earth Two, Batman and Catwoman shared a daughter by the name of Helena Wayne. She was this Earth's version of Huntress as opposed to the traditional Huntress that is Helena Bertinelli. The apple didn't fall far from the tree in the costumed vigilante department.

In an Elseworlds storyline entitled "Batman: League of Batmen," Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul's son named Tallant Wayne leads a very different life from his father. He warps the callings of both Bruce and Talia by creating a team of Batmen similar to the League of Assassins his mother is known for.

Terry McGinnis is a biological son to Bruce Wayne

Children of the late 90s and early '00s are familiar with "Batman Beyond," another brainchild of Bruce Timm (who created " Batman: The Animated Series "). This show followed Bruce in his waning years, as an old man retiring from the life of crimefighting. He recruits a teenager by the name of Terry McGinnis to take up the mantle, training him to be a new Batman.

Strangely enough, Bruce and Terry's union as a Batman team was all part of fate's grand design. While Terry was the son of Warren McGinnis, genetically this wasn't the case. It's later revealed in a "Justice League Unlimited" episode that Amanda Waller began a future Batman project that included Bruce's DNA. She sought out a couple with the same profile as Thomas and Martha Wayne. Waller found that couple in McGinnis's parents. Then, Cadmus rewrote Warren's reproductive DNA to be Bruce's. When his wife, Mary, bore Terry as an infant, he was technically Bruce's son.

Amanda Waller even sought to recreate the tragedy Bruce experienced as a young child to push Terry into prime Batman mode. She and her cohort, who was supposed to assassinate the McGinnis couple, ultimately couldn't bring themselves to go through with it. Nevertheless, Terry's parents still perished tragically; perhaps the cherry on this tale of tragedy was that Bruce never learned before his death that Terry was his son.

Bruce Wayne traveled through time thanks to Darkseid's Omega Sanction

During "Final Crisis," all hands were on deck to stop Darkseid and his apocalyptic incursion. Batman confronted the villain face-to-face and the rest of the heroes believed that Darkseid had killed the Caped Crusader. This was actually not the case; Darkseid used his Omega Sanction ability to send Bruce Wayne through time.

This began a series of comics entitled "Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne." He began his journey in the Paleolithic era, confronting t a pack of blood-thirsty Neanderthals led by the immortal villain Vandal Savage. Continually catapulted through time, he later found himself in the Puritan era. Eventually, he surfaced up in the 18 th century, crossing paths with Blackbeard the pirate. After a trip to the wild West and then the early 1900s, Bruce eventually found his way home, discovering that Dick Grayson had taken up the mantle of Batman in Bruce's "death."

Forbes has recognized Bruce Wayne's wealth

In Gotham City, Bruce Wayne is an icon, celebrity and benefactor. His family holds a deep connection to Gotham, one that had Bruce's parents frequently struggling to lift the city out of its despair through donations and civic action. When they were alive, much of their wealth became allocated to infrastructure support, political causes, and giving back to Gotham. Bruce's father rarely held an official role in the family company; he instead became a doctor to help others.

Bruce's own philanthropic efforts are, in a way, frequently realized through his secretive job as Batman. But when he can't stop crime and ease inequality with his actions, he does it with his checkbook. Because of his wealth and ability to raise funds for causes he believes in ( Harvey Dent for DA, anybody? ), Bruce Wayne has been recognized by Forbes on their " Fictional 15 " list multiple times.

Remembering Tommy the Matchmaker, a D.C. mix of Cupid and P.T. Barnum

bruce wayne yacht

In 1967, Tommy Curtis let it be known around town that he had been hired by a reclusive multimillionaire to open a discothèque in Washington.

“He was like a Howard Hughes ,” Tommy told me a few years ago. “He didn’t want to have his identity shown. So I was the frontman for this guy named Wayne. The papers picked it up like crazy.”

The nightclub — at 21st and K streets NW — was called Wayne’s Luv. Only single people were allowed inside. “If a fellow brings a girl to LUV, she may only be his mother, his sister or his female first cousin,” one print ad stipulated.

Wayne’s Luv was a hit. Wayne would have luvved it. Except: “There was no Wayne,” said Tommy.

But that didn’t matter. It was the idea of Wayne that was important.

Tommy “the Matchmaker” Curtis died May 5 at age 75. You may have seen his obituary in Tuesday’s paper .

Tommy would call me up a couple of times a year and share some bit of Tommiana . Those were fun conversations . He’d always say he was calling from Hollywood, though apparently he wasn’t. He was calling from Bethesda, site of his most famous creation: the Yacht Club, a singles event held in a landlocked Holiday Inn on Wisconsin Avenue.

“I was nobody when I was in law school,” Tommy told me once, explaining what drove him to get into the good-time business. Born in New York, a graduate of Choate prep school and Yale, he’d moved to Washington to attend American University.

“I had a feeling that socially I needed to do something,” he said.

What he decided to do was “throw parties like Mike.”

That was Mike O’Harro , whose freewheeling parties — and, later, Tramps discothèque — made him the godfather of the D.C. singles scene .

“I would do anything for publicity,” Tommy said. “I was going against Mike, who was a genius at publicity.”

Steve King met Tommy at Wayne’s Luv.

“He did his act, where he says, ‘I want to introduce you to this woman over here,’ ” Steve told me. “He did, and she and I became an item.”

“We should have walked down the aisle together. I went off to Vietnam. It’s a very long story.”

(They did not get married.)

Steve went on to produce the TV commercials for Tommy’s various commercial endeavors, amazed at how the elfin matchmaker could turn on the charm for the camera.

Tommy had idiosyncratic print ads, too. “He could put more copy in a little 2-by-2-inch ad,” Steve said. “He wrote words around the borders.”

For someone who devoted so much of his life to turning singles into doubles, how come Tommy himself never got married?

Said Steve: “His answer was, ‘Look, you know Rex Reed used to rate movies, but he never made a movie. Siskel and Ebert never made movies.’ ”

Tommy Curtis did make movies, or produce them anyway. His great-uncle was studio exec Harry Cohn .

“I went into the movie business and carried on the family tradition,” said Tommy’s older brother, Bruce Cohn Curtis (really calling from Hollywood). “He went into the bar business — and the nightlife business and music and radio and television. Then we joined together when he raised money for a couple movies that I made.”

The first was “Hell Night,” a 1981 slasher film set in a sorority house starring Linda Blair .

Tommy once told me: “I think when I’m in my 80s, I’ll be doing singles parties at the Old Soldiers’ Home.”

All I can say is: Watch out, heaven. Tommy the Matchmaker’s there.

(Friends and Yacht Club veterans are invited to share their Tommy memories online at tommythematchmaker.com .)

As she does every Memorial Day, Emily Domenech went to Arlington National Cemetery on Monday morning to visit the grave of her grandfather, John Domenech , an Army veteran who died in 2006 and is buried in Section 68 with his wife, Margaret .

Because of the novel coronavirus , only family members were allowed into the cemetery. Emily thought there might be some people who couldn’t come but would like someone to visit their loved one’s grave. She asked people to tweet her at @ehdomenech if they wanted her to visit a grave, leave a flower and take a photo.

“Then it just took off in a crazy way,” said Emily, 35, a policy adviser on House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s staff. “I immediately ran out of flowers.”

As people messaged her, Emily crisscrossed the cemetery. She stayed till 2, then took a break, before returning later. She left around 5:30, when officers told visitors the cemetery was closing.

Emily was able to visit and take photos of the final resting places of 60 veterans. That’s about a third of the number of requests she received.

“I wish I could have done more,” she said. “You get such a big list, you feel an obligation.”

Batman: How Does Bruce Wayne Have So Many Exact Doubles Out There?

It's hard to believe, but there are a whole lot of exact doubles of Batman's secret identity, Bruce Wayne, running around the DCU

Today, we look at the surprising amount of exact doubles of Bruce Wayne running around the DC Universe.

In Drawing Crazy Patterns , I spotlight at least five scenes/moments from within comic book stories that fit under a specific theme (basically, stuff that happens frequently in comics). Note that these lists are inherently not exhaustive. They are a list of five examples (occasionally I'll be nice and toss in a sixth). So no instance is "missing" if it is not listed. It's just not one of the five examples that I chose.

One of the more amusing recurring plot tropes in comic book history, especially during the Golden and Silver Age of Comics, is that there are multiple exact doppelgangers out there for pretty much every person, including, of course, our favorite comic book heroes. In the past, I've written about Superman/Clark Kent's doubles and Lois Lane's doubles and today, we look at Bruce Wayne's doubles!

A PAROLE AT CHRISTMAS WHO LOOKS JUST LIKE BRUCE WAYNE

1947's Batman #45 (by Bill Finger and Charles Paris) introduced us to Ed Rogers, a criminal who has turned over a new leaf while in prison and has been granted a 24-hour Christmas parole due to good behavior. He goes to visit his girlfriend and his younger brother, who is being raised by his girlfriend while Ed is on a "secret Navy project." However, Ed is attacked on the way to the visit by a pair of would-be killers. Ed is injured but not fatally so. Batman and Robin save him and are shocked to see his face...

Naturally, Batman decides to impersonate Ed to help the guy out...

But people keep trying to kill Ed. Batman deduces that it has something to do with Ed's cell, so, as Ed, he gets arrested and sent back to prison (with his Batman costume folded compactly into the palm of his hand. Yes, no one ever checks the palm of this prisoner's hand because...well...shut up, it happened, right! So Batman's plan made sense!), where he discovers that some crooks planned to tunnel out of the prison and they needed Ed's cell to do it and he wouldn't go along with the plot...

After Batman foils the escape, he explains how Ed was working with him on the case and Ed is paroled for good and reunites with his girlfriend and his kid brother. Oddly, he doesn't propose in the comic for whatever reason...

Five Characters Who Have Defeated Ghost Rider's Penance Stare

BATMAN GOES BACK IN TIME TO MEET HIS VIKING DOUBLE

In Batman #52 (by an unknown writer and art by Bob Kane and Charles Paris, one of the last batch of stories that Kane did by himself in the Batman comic books), Bruce Wayne is at a museum where he sees a rock carving mentioning a Viking coward who looks just like Bruce!

So Batman and Robin go back in time and meet Olaf Erikson, and rescue him from prison...

Batman then takes over his identtiy and fights a series of challenges to get the Vikings to accept Olaf again. Olaf then proves himself in battle and when Batman and Robin return to the present, they get the other part of the rock carving where it reveals that Oalk was a coward...who became a great hero!

BRUCE WAYNE BECOMES A CRIME REPORTER AND BECOMES HIS EXACT DOUBLE

In Batman #65 (by Bill Finger, Dick Sprang and Charles Paris), we got one of those awesomely weird early-1950s Bill Finger plotlines. A couple of rich guys are talking and a newspaper publisher bets one of the rich guys $10,000 that he could turn anyone into a top notch crime reporter. The rich guy suggests Bruce Wayne and the bet is on and Bruce goes to work as a crime reporter...

A new gang robs a giant diamond and the newpspaer publisher knows they'll need a guy to cut the diamond and luckily, one of the best diamond cutters in the criminal world is a guy who is Bruce Wayne's exact double!

So Bruce impersonates the diamond cutter, but as it turns out, it was all a plot by the newspaper publisher, who was the REAL head of the gang, as he was going to frame the rich guy he made the bet with as the head of the gang, using the crime reporter bet to lure him to the meeting spot...

Robin helps save the day (and after a quick change), Batman takes the bad guy down and the rich guy admits that he has to pay off on the bet, though, as Bruce Wayne DID break this whole story!

BATMAN'S INSPIRATION CAUSES HIS DOUBLE TO MAKE A HEROIC SACRIFICE

I've discussed Batman #83's "The Duplicate Batman" before, but suffice it to say that the story involves Batman being seemingly killed in a plane crash that no one knows about except for some crooks, who then hire an ex-con who looks just like Batman's build (not knowing that he also looks exactly like Bruce Wayne) to impersonate him to take advantage of the fact that no one else knows Batman is seemingly dead...

However, Harry Larson receives a blow to his head that causes him to lose his memory and not know that he WASN'T the real Batman! He also discovered that he apparently was Bruce Wayne, as well. In the end, though, when he realizes that he is NOT the real Batman, he then sacrificed his life to save the REAL Batman, with his face disfigured as he is eleotrocuted to deathk, so no one will put the connection together.

This is part of a whole other Drawing Crazy Patterns (which I see now I wrote over a decade ago. Dang, I've been doing this stuff too long), which is learning Batman's secret identity tends to be a death sentence!

A BATMAN ROGUE LOOKS JUST LIKE BRUCE WAYNE?

The Batman villain, Killer Moth, debuted as a guy who wormed his way into the upper crust of Gotham City society just to rob them all. Once he was unmasked, though, that plan was ruined, unless he could just take over ANOTHER rich guy's life...like Bruce Wayne, which is exactly what he did in Detective Comics #173 (by Sheldon Moldoff and an unknown writer and inker)!

This is a bit of a cheat, of course, since this was plastic surgery, but whatever, I'm still counting it. So Moth takes over as Bruce Wayne and then inadvertently discovers that Wayne is Batman...

He then comes up with an ingenious plan to use both identities, with "Batman" punishing rival gangs who don't pay him protection money. However, when the real Batman shows up to a "protected" gang, one of the betrayed gang members think this is a set up and shoots Moth...

He survives, but his face is disfigured and he has lost all the memory of the plan (and thus, Bruce Wayne's secret identity)...

If anyone has suggestions for a future Drawing Crazy Patterns, drop me a line at [email protected]!
