With a break in the schedule, the Miami Heat got together in South Beach last night for an early celebration of Dwayne Wade's 32nd birthday.

words // Brandon Richard

With a break in the schedule, the Miami Heat got together in South Beach last night for an early celebration of Dwayne Wade's 32nd birthday. The party took place aboard the Li-Ning yacht, which was designed with graphics similar to those used in the INSA 'Way of Wade' mural .

Part of D-Wade's birthday celebration included a display of this season's footwear lineup, including a few never-before-seen styles.

Way of Wade super fan jr_lyon , who was invited to be part of the festivities, shared this sneak of a few new additions to the Way of Wade 2 lineup. Top Row: Team No Sleep, RazFuego, Birthday, DazFuego, Christmas. Bottom Row: Caution, Code Red, Overtown, Announcement, 305. No release dates for the new pairs yet, but updates will be posted here at Sole Collector.

Dwyane Wade and Li-Ning's Way of Wade Reveals New All City 11 Silhouette

Debuting in way of wade’s signature “sunrise” colorway, the all city 11 combines design language both new and familiar with upgraded performance tech..

li ning way of dwyane wade all city 11 sneaker shoe sunrise official release date info photos price store list buying guide

Dwyane Wade and Li-Ning’s partnership turned 10 this year, and what sets it apart from other NBA -star-teams-with-sneaker-company initiatives is that Wade, in Michael Jordan -esque fashion, has been given his own “brand-within-a-brand,” Way of Wade . The Way of Wade 10 — D-Wade’s 10th official signature sneaker — dropped earlier this year and now Li-Ning is following it up with the All City 11 , a team-focused model whose past iterations have been worn by other Li-Ning athletes like D’Angelo Russell and CJ McCollum .

The All City 11 has debuted in Way of Wade’s signature “Sunrise” colorway, which combines a stark black upper with a gradient fade midsole that moves from orange to pink. Its style and shape similarities to the Way of Wade 10 are intentional, as Li-Ning used the WoW 10’s design language as a building block for the All City 11. However, it’s not a mere rehash as it boasts a glut of improved performance features. A softer, more comfortable knit material is used on the upper, while a new forefoot design aims to prevent rollover. Midsoles feature Li-Ning’s signature BOOM foam for cushioning and support, and also use a TPU wrap to increase stability.

WAY OF WADE: DAZZLE AND DISGUISE

One of the most elusive players in the league, Wade can attack, stop on a dime, make the right pass, or pull up for a jumper. His textbook pump fake fools defenders left and right. WW1 [British] naval ships did the exact same with their ‘razzle dazzle’ camouflage pattern painted to deceive other ships from being able to decipher the direction, distance, or the speed the ship was traveling.

Dwayne Wade, Way of Wade, Li Ning, footwear design inspiration, dazzle dazzle camouflage

To convey deception, initial concepts find the WoW2 line mirroring dress shoe silhouettes, from longer vamps to the architecture of the midsole. The outsole design relies heavily on the misleading, multi-directional Dazzle Camo pattern to provide specific function in designated areas.

Dwayne Wade, Way of Wade, Li Ning, footwear design inspiration, dazzle dazzle camouflage

Way of Wade 2 Low features a zig-zag pattern that acts as an eyestay, provides lateral support and forms a W from the side. In select color ways, Dazzle Camo makes it difficult to discern what’s material and what’s graphic print. Taken from the Heat jersey, an italicized No. 3 is displayed on the vamp.

Dwayne Wade, Way of Wade, Li Ning, footwear design inspiration, dazzle dazzle camouflage

The Way of Wade 2 highlights Dazzle Camo in a two-dimensional way whereas the WOW2 Low and WOW2 Encore explore the multi-directional pattern in 3D, resulting in faceted surfaces molded into the high quality leathers.

Dwayne Wade, Way of Wade, Li Ning, footwear design inspiration, dazzle dazzle camouflage

The WOW2 outsole brings out the versatility of Dazzle Camo. Primarily used to distract, the vorticist design actually serves as great traction as well, with lines being strategically placed to provide either deceleration, acceleration or flexibility.

Way of Wade 10 Performance Review

English review.

Way of Wade 10

The Way of Wade 10 is one of the best basketball shoes of the year with its ultra-bouncy cushion, one-to-one fit, and grippy traction.

Colorway: Sunrise

Release Date: 2022

Price: $225-$240

There have only been a handful of NBA athletes to reach at least ten signature sneakers, and now Dwyane Wade is one of them. Congratulations to Li-Ning, the Way of Wade Brand, and the man himself on this accomplishment. The Way of Wade 10 also deserves praise because there’s so much to be hopeful for with its performance. They may have you feeling like you’re about to jump out of the gym.

This shoe is featured in our Best Basketball Shoes overall list , Best Li-Ning Basketball Shoes list , and Best for Wide Feet .

Way of Wade 10 Traction

Traction performance with the Way of Wade 10 was excellent. I ended up playing on 4 indoor and 2 outdoor courts. All the courts were of varying cleanliness, and yet the Way of Wade 10s performed well under all conditions. Even when the outsole collected loads of dust, the rubber compound still reacted surprisingly well. If you somehow end up having problems with the traction for these when you’re out playing, I’m willing to bet it’s more of a floor problem rather than a shoe problem.

The grooves don’t have much space between them, so small rocks and dust accumulate quickly. The pattern is primarily radial and extends up the medial side, so you have coverage when you drag your feet on hard crossovers and pivots. The only downside is durability on outdoor floors. While it still grips the concrete and blacktop well, the rubber is too pliable to last any significant amount of time.

Way of Wade 10 Cushion

These are the bounciest shoes I’ve tested this year. Imagine adidas Boost , but even a notch bouncier. It felt more natural to adapt to the bounciness for linear movements since I’ve had experience with somewhat similar cushion setups in running shoes. Basketball isn’t just filled with linear movements though. You’re constantly required to shift movements from linear to lateral repeatedly. It took up until my 3rd session playing with the shoes for me to really start to appreciate the bouncy cushion setup more for its comfort level.

There is a gradual offset for the cushion stack height, so the forefoot feels lower to the ground. You’re not going to get an extremely low-to-the-ground feel, but it’s a good enough mix of cushion and court feel.

The midsole is full-length BOOM. Although there is midsole caging, it’s made of a soft TPU, so the Pebax-based foam has breathing room. Comfort is A+, and your legs will thank you for using these. Once you get to adapt to it, you’ll enjoy these.

Way of Wade 10 Materials

The upper is a textile mesh knit build. The textile used even has some slight elasticity, which helps it conform to your feet. The eyestays are a thick overlay, and they sometimes dug into my feet when I wasn’t wearing my ankle braces. The tongue is fairly padded, matches the height of the ankle collar, and wraps around my foot well. The laces remind me of the Nike GT Cut laces. They are round and soft so they had a tendency to loosen up when I didn’t tie my shoes securely during my first session. If you double-lace and tighten them correctly, it works well. Overall, it’s a comfortable feel.

It’s also interesting to note that these are light for what they offer in terms of tech. They’re lighter than both the Li-Ning Wade 808 2 and the Li-Ning Wade 808 2 Ultra .

Way of Wade 10 Fit

Li-Ning used to recommend on their product listings to go up half a size. That’s probably because Way of Wade 10 fits snugly in the midfoot area. I wouldn’t say it’s as snug as Nike’s KD shoes though, like the KD 15. If you want a snug, one-to-one fit, going true to size works. Going up at least half a size is recommended if you wear ankle braces like I do or have wide feet. The toe box area also flares out and isn’t narrow, so if you’re someone like me who enjoys some breathing room for your toes, the toe box in these should accommodate you.

Way of Wade 10 Support

There’s a thin full-length carbon fiber shank plate that adds both stability and bounciness. The shoe can’t be bent or twisted easily. It’s so thin, in fact, that some users have complained about the plate cracking. Fortunately, I didn’t have that experience. Li-Ning also added lateral TPU stabilizers that help keep your feet on the footbed. They’re slightly soft like the cushion caging. That worked well for me since they didn’t hurt my feet when I made hard cuts or made sudden stops. If you’re not a fan of hard plastic pieces on the sides of your shoe, these may be a better alternative.

The circular carbon fiber piece is also supposedly there to help with ankle support. Part of me thinks it’s just there for design purposes, but hopefully, it does actually help. It reminded me of the Kobe 9 ankle and heel support piece. I loved those shoes, but the carbon fiber piece near the ankle in those shoes sometimes dug into my feet. The Way of Wade 10, on the other hand, did not, again thanks to the softer TPU material surrounding the carbon fiber piece. To round it all up, the adequately wide forefoot base helped with overall stability and traction for the shoes.

Way of Wade 10 Overall

The Way of Wade 10 is a great sneaker and one that many will enjoy. The traction is excellent in all court conditions. The cushion is one of the bounciest available today with full-length BOOM. The materials are not premium, but they do the job and make the shoe light for what it offers. Support isn’t terrible at all with the full-length carbon fiber plate and additional support features. It’s one of the best basketball shoes of the year.

Initial Impressions

What’s in the video?

In the video, Chris provides detailed information from all the usual categories, providing the in-depth information you need. He supplies expert-level opinions on the materials, cushioning, traction, support, and fit. Here’s some of what he discusses:

  • 10th signature shoe milestone
  • Slip-resistant outsole
  • Full-length BOOM cushion
  • Zoom Air on steroids feel
  • Fully-wrapped midsole
  • Carbon fiber torsional spring plate
  • Lightest of the Wade line so far
  • Slender look and fit
  • Additional story-telling features
  • Sizing recommendations

As an added bonus, Mrs. Wing makes Chris guess which shoe this reminds her of and you can guess right along with him.

I clicked because from a far the shoes looked so pretty, but when I inspected it closely, the plastic pink bottom looks tacky when you take everything in

I’ve been collecting shoes and playing in them for 30 years. These could be the best model I have ever worn. Obviously I’ve got a lot of old favorites like the Aggress Force, Big Flyer, VisZoom Uptempo, etc. Loved the TMac6 and Gil Zero from Adidas. The pivot to performance for Jordan has been great with the XX8 and 32 in particular. BrandBlack had some killer models early on. But these have it all and even have some things I’ve never felt in a shoe. They are the springiest shoe I’ve ever played in, with 40+ years and an extra 40 pounds I’m not exactly a high flyer but these made me want to get off the ground. The Boom isn’t as cushy or thick as the Wow9 Infinity but it’s more responsive and gave me less foot fatigue just the same. The upper, specifically on the sunrise pair, breathes great everywhere except the padded collar and truly gives a 1to1 fit like I’ve never felt. The traction and forefoot tooling gave me the freedom to try moves, pivots and changes of directions that I hadn’t in years, tremendous multidirectional coverage from both the outsole and midsole. This shoe is as close to perfect as you will find IMHO.

I wouldn’t buy anything from Way of Wade. The customer service is terrible. My shoes split at the side seam after 12 games, and they told me they didn’t care and it was outside the return window. Save your money and buy something else. I can provide pictures if anyone wants to see them.

Which site did you buy them from?

how do these compare to the lows?

Dwyane Wade's Birthday Outfit Matched His Birthday Yacht

MIAMI BEACH, FL - JANUARY 11: (EXCLUSIVE COVERAGE) Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union enjoy the fireworks display at Dwyane Wades 'Rock The Boat' 32nd Birthday Party on January 11, 2014 in Miami Beach, Florida. (Photo by Bobby Metelus/Getty Images)

We're not saying they're trying to outdo one another, but a few Heat players (and their sponsors) have been throwing themselves increasingly elaborate birthday parties for a few years now.

After seeing what Dwyane did for his 32nd birthday over the weekend, we're honestly not sure this won't end with Chris Bosh gold-plating himself and setting Miami on fire: not only did Dwyane Wade spend Saturday night celebrating his big day aboard a giant yacht wrapped in his signature "Way of Wade" motif by shoe sponsor Li Ning, but Wade's suit was matched to the yacht.

Yep, both the chartered Venetian Lady and Wade himself were covered in a graphic black and white pattern, fusing man and boat in a jaw-dropping reminder that our birthday parties will never, ever reach this level.

Dwyane Wade's 32nd Birthday

Dwyane Wade's Yacht Birthday Party

"TeamWade and @liningusa know how to make a guy feel special," the newly-engaged Heat star wrote on Instagram . "Thanks to all my teammates and EVERY1 who came out... Moments like this I'll never forget. 32yrs on this earth here I came (sic)."

Photos from the night show the rest of the Miami Heat were aboard the ship, along with team owner Micky Arison and president Pat Riley. Then there was Wade's fiancee, actress Gabrielle Union, who stayed the course next to Wade in a white body con dress and gave her man a kiss as fireworks exploded overhead.

And here we thought Wade's 30th birthday, during which he received a 2012 McLaren MP4-12C and Kelly Rowland sang "Happy Birthday," couldn't be topped. Nor did we expect anyone to go bigger than Chris Bosh's last bash, where guests enjoyed a live camel and a cake in the shape of an elephant ridden by a tiny Chris Bosh .

Your move, LeBron. Your move.

Bill Downs, War Correspondent

April 27, 2017, 1943. axis forces encircled near rostov.

Soviets Win Major Railways, Cut Retreat of 500,0000 Nazis ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ Foe Said Putting Torch to Rostov ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ Disaster Akin to Stalingrad Threatening Germans In Donets Area MOSCOW, Feb. 13 (INS) — Soviet troops today captured Novocherkassk to drive within 20 miles northeast of Rostov, and simultaneously occupied Zolochev, 20 miles northwest of Kharkov, where they cut another major railway leading to central Russia. A special communiqué tonight also disclosed occupation of the key junction of Likhaya, 62 miles north of Rostov where the Voronezh-Rostov railway crosses both the northern crook of the Donets river bend and the Stalingrad-Donets rail line. Rostov Reported Afire Driving down the railway from Voronezh, the same Russian column overran Zverevo, five miles below Likhaya and 57 north of Rostov around which an arc was rapidly closing the north, northeast and south. (Bill Downs, CBS correspondent at Moscow, broadcast unconfirmed reports in the Soviet capital that the Germans are setting the "entire city" of Rostov afire. A London broadcast heard by CBS said the Nazi garrison at the Caucasian gateway city was being shelled from three sides and that the Germans had "already lost their advance fortifications, but their defense is most stubborn.") The special bulletin also announced the capture of Novo-Shakhty, 15 miles northwest of Shakhty, which is 10 miles above Novocherkassk. Shakhty was occupied Friday and the Red Army now controls the entire railway from Voronezh through that town down to Novocherkassk. Some 125 miles northwest of Novocherkassk, Gen. Nikolai F. Vatutin's army was declared earlier to have overrun another 45 enemy strong-points south of the vital junction of Krasnoarmeisk, occupied Friday. This push came to within 70 miles above the northern Azov seacoast and 25 miles north of Stalino, controlling the last rail line of retreat left to an estimated half million German troops in the Donets-Rostov region. Rout Like Stalingrad Looms A disaster akin to that of Stalingrad threatened hourly to overtake the latter enemy forces. Russian capture of Zolochev, announced in the special communiqué, cut the sixth of eight railways radiating out of Kharkov. Zolochev lies 20 miles northwest of the Ukrainian industrial capital on the line to Bryansk, 200 miles southwest of Moscow. Its capture meant that one of at least four Russian armies, which have converged to within 18 miles of Kharkov, by-passed the queen city of the Ukraine on the north in a westward overland advance of some 20 miles from the Belgorod-Kharkov rail line. Only 2 Rails Open Only two of the eight trunk railways leading out of Kharkov remain available for the escape of the huge German garrison now threatened with complete encirclement. One leads due west to the Ukrainian administrative capital of Kiev, 160 miles away, with a branch threading northwest to Konotop and the western Russian rail system. The other runs 130 miles southwest to the German base of Dniepropetrovsk on the Dnieper river bend, already menaced by a Soviet column that captured Lozovaya, 65 miles to the northeast. The closest Russian spearhead aimed at Kharkov was last reported striking beyond Chuguyev to a point less than 18 miles east-southeast of the "Russian Pittsburgh." "On Feb. 13," said the special Soviet bulletin, "our forces as the result of a determined attack captured the town of Novocherkassk. Units under the command of Maj. Gen. Lutvenko were the first to break into the town. Troops of Maj. Gen. Shlemin, continuing the offensive, captured the town and large railway junction of Likhaya and the town and railway station of Zverevo. "Our troops also captured the town of Novo-Shakhty. "In the Ukraine as a result of stubborn fighting our troops occupied the town and railway station of Zolochev." Likhaya, one of the most bitterly defended German strongholds in the south, already had been bypassed on the east by Soviet columns which had fought their way across the Donets bend to break the main German defense line shielding Rostov from the north.

10 big ideas we learned at SXSW 2024, including AI, gun violence and Roe v. Wade

way of wade yacht

Editor's note: This story includes references to suicide. Information about resources for people in crisis can be found at the end of this story.

Each year, celebrities on red carpets and stars on big stages garner most of the headlines during the South by Southwest Conference and Festivals in Austin. But at the conference itself, politicians, artists, business leaders and, yes, celebrities gather to exchange ideas. At its worst, SXSW is a crass corporate sideshow. At its best, it's a place where serious thinkers explore ways to build on the knowledge of the past and to imagine a better future.

Here are 10 interesting and important ideas we heard discussed at SXSW 2024.

The end of Roe v. Wade continues to affect Texas families

Austinite and reproductive health advocate Amanda Zurawsk i discussed her case Zurawski v. Texas. She also talked about the effect the Alabama Supreme Court ruling that an embryo is a human being and can’t be destroyed has on families like hers who rely on in vitro fertilization to have children. "There is a panic in my house," she said.

The Zurawskis said they have two frozen embryos that they might want to use in the future via a surrogate because of her health scare. Zurawski wondered if they decided not to use them and have them destroyed because storing embryos is expensive, would someone call it murder? Or if their surrogate had a miscarriage, could it be involuntary manslaughter? The Zurawskis raised the issue, even though the Alabama ruling does not affect women in Texas and Alabama lawmakers have since passed an in vitro fertilization law.

Because of that ruling, Zurawski moved her embryos to an out-of-state facility, in a more reproductive rights-friendly state. — Nicole Villalpando

Sci-fi biotech could resurrect ... a woolly mammoth?

A few sessions that included Texas companies explored technology that feels like it could be from a sci-fi movie. This includes de-extinction startup Colossal , a company founded by Austin entrepreneur Ben Lamm that’s best known for its efforts to bring back the woolly mammoth. Lamm spoke at a session with actor and filmmaker Seth Green, to talk about how de-extinction technology could help bring back animals such as the mammoth, using gene editing and other tools, and how it compares to science fiction such as "Jurassic Park." — Kara Carlson

Humanoid robots might join astronauts on the moon and Mars

Austin-based robotics company Apptronik has been at the center of several sessions, including a panel with NASA last Sunday, exploring how humanoid robots could work alongside astronauts on the moon and Mars. CEO Jeff Cardenas spoke with Shaun Azimi, lead of NASA’s dexterous robotics program, about the possibilities of humanoid robots joining humans in space in the not-too-distant future.

During the session, Azimi said robotics could be a “game changer” in space and said there’s interest in sticking with humanoid robotic design when possible, because we design the rest of our space innovations around humans. Cardenas also said humanoid robotics, like the Apollo robot made by Apptronik, will become more versatile and able to take on tasks on earth and in places like the moon and Mars. — Kara Carlson

We have to change the way we talk about suicide

Actress Ashley Judd came to her first SXSW last weekend to talk about suicide and her family's experience after her mother and country music star Naomi Judd died almost two years ago.

Of the way her mother’s death was covered in the media with photos and video of the investigation being released, she said, "My family and the public is still haunted by it."

She wants her mom’s legacy to be her life, not her death.

"My mom called me sweet pea, and she was really soft, and she smelled pretty," Judd said. — Nicole Villalpando

Fear of gun violence in schools haunts young people

Several sessions dealt with the effect that gun violence — both in and outside of schools — has had on the nation's youth.

Health experts and activist Mia Tretta, a survivor of the 2019 Saugus High School shooting in Santa Clarita, California, insisted during a March 9 panel that people shouldn't think about gun violence as a political issue, but as a public health crisis. For many young people, the fear of gun violence in schools is palpable, Tretta said.

Gun violence was the leading cause of death for people under 25 in 2020, according to a 2022 study from the John Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions .

In a separate panel March 8, members of March for Our Lives, a student-led organization that advocates for more gun control, pointed to community needs. Erasing gun violence must begin with helping the communities experiencing violence, said Asya Ardawatia, a Houston-area high school student and co-executive director of the organization's Houston chapter.

"It's unfortunate that more deaths means more people will talk about it," Ardawatia said. — Keri Heath

Could artificial intelligence make us more human?

Artificial intelligence was a big focus of this year’s sessions, including discussion on its direction and whether to accelerate or slow down.

Austinite and AMD CEO Lisa Su said during her keynote that AI development should actually speed up, despite potential concerns people have about the technology.

"The answer is not to go slower, the answer is to be cognizant of the risks," Su said. "We must experiment, and we must do so with a watchful eye."

A separate session explored OpenAI, artificial intelligence and how humanity fits in. OpenAI makes some of the best-known generative artificial intelligence tools, including text-based ChatGPT and image-focused Dall-E. OpenAI’s head of ChatGPT, Peter Deng, said that “fundamentally, AI makes us more human” by making us ask the bigger questions.

"If you take a look at AI as a tool, it unlocks the ability for us to go deeper and explore some of the things we're wondering about,” Deng said.

In another session, Michael Dell, founder of Round-Rock based Dell Technologies, also discussed artificial intelligence and humanity saying, that technology has always been about "enabling human potential." He also acknowledged that such a rapidly changing technology poses challenges.

AI development has "got to be done in a thoughtful way and reflect our humanity, and I believe it's going to be enormous," Dell said. — Kara Carlson

Austin needs to creatively address transportation issues

At a panel on transportation , Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi and Austin Mayor Kirk Watso n said they want to "make mobility weird" by investing in the city's future transportation options, especially sustainable and affordable ones.  — Kara Carlson

Is Austin ready for driverless cars?

Autonomous vehicles, or self-driving cars, were the topic of a number of sessions at SXSW. With "no playbook" for the emerging technology, industry leaders said it's important for companies to build trust and educate cities and communities, including Austin where both Waymo and Volkswagen are currently testing autonomous vehicle technology. During a session examining the company's road map, Waymo co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana said her role as CEO involves “a lot of trusting (her) gut.”

“If (an update) doesn't stay within our safety bar, we’ll pull back,” Mawakana said. “We’ve stayed disciplined.”

Mawakana said Waymo is engaged with the city leaders and community groups as it continues testing and as the company aims to launch driverless ride-booking in Austin later this year .

“We understand that. We want to engage in a way that makes us part of the community," Mawakana said.

In a separate session Katrin Lohmann, president of Volkswagen Autonomous Driving Mobility & Transportation said VW has aimed to work with the city of Austin and community to explain the benefits of autonomous technology.

"You really have to build that trust long term," Lohmann said. — Kara Carlson

Is kindness the secret sauce for 'unicorn' bosses?

I expected self-aggrandizing bullet points and hubris but came away inspired by former Bezos colleague Ann Hiatt's "Unicorn boss DNA" panel. She shattered the myth of the creative male genius and made a convincing case that anyone can be an amazing leader by being helpful, selfless, kind, conscious, and willing to challenge yourself by adopting ideas that can come from anyone. She explained how interns helped the Crocs CEO make them look cool; how the IBM CEO took a non-traditional path to success and regularly gives back; and how the Canva CEO took up kitesurfing so she could have face time with investors. — Ramon Ramirez, special to American-Statesman

Everything, everywhere at SXSW

After it debuted at SXSW in 2022, "Everything Everywhere All At Once" quickly became popular among casual moviegoers and critics.

The film's directors, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, returned to SXSW this year to discuss with quirky flair how they found synthesis in contradicting ideas in their work on the Oscar-winning film.

In making the film, Kwan and Scheinert played with the tension between ideas: kung fu and peace; complexity and absurdity.

"When you look around the world right now, it's really confusing," Kwan said. "Our stories are all crossing and smashing up against each other. They're really contradictory."

The filmmakers also spoke about their broader creative process and their quest to find projects that intersect with what they love and what the world needs.

"It's such a beautiful moment when you realize your superpower, and everybody has one," Scheinert said. — Keri Heath

The Evening

Schumer urged new leadership in israel.

Also, another Trump trial delay. Here’s the latest at the end of Thursday.

Senator Chuck Schumer among a group of people.

By Jonathan Wolfe

Senator Chuck Schumer, Democrat of New York and the majority leader, said that Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, was a major obstacle to peace in the Middle East and called for elections to replace him .

“Prime Minister Netanyahu has lost his way by allowing his political survival to take precedence over the best interests of Israel,” Schumer said today in a speech on the Senate floor. “He has been too willing to tolerate the civilian toll in Gaza, which is pushing support for Israel worldwide to historic lows. Israel cannot survive if it becomes a pariah.”

Schumer’s speech was the sharpest critique yet of Netanyahu from a senior American elected official. It reflects growing dissatisfaction among Democrats, particularly progressives, with Israel’s conduct in the war and the conflict’s toll on Palestinian civilians, which has created a strategic and political dilemma for President Biden.

Republicans have tried to capitalize on that dynamic for an electoral advantage. Senator Mitch McConnell, Republican of Kentucky and the minority leader, called Schumer’s actions “unprecedented,” and accused Democrats of having “an anti-Israel problem.”

Prosecutors asked to delay Trump’s hush-money trial

Less than two weeks before Donald Trump was set to go on trial on criminal charges in Manhattan, the prosecutors who brought the case proposed that the judge delay it by up to 30 days . It was a startling development in the case, the first prosecution of a former American president.

The Manhattan district attorney’s office, which accused Trump of covering up a sex scandal during and after the 2016 presidential campaign, sought the delay so defense lawyers could review a new batch of records. It is unclear when the judge will rule on the delay.

A postponement in the Manhattan case would most likely delight Trump, whose central strategy for fighting his legal entanglements is to stall as much as possible.

Here’s where the four criminal cases against Trump stand.

Kamala Harris visited an abortion clinic, in a historic first

Vice President Kamala Harris met today with abortion providers and staff members in the Twin Cities, a visit that is believed to be the first by a president or vice president to an abortion clinic. Her visit was an attempt to highlight what the administration has done to try to preserve access to abortion, as conservative states enact growing restrictions.

The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade has created an energized coalition of voters who helped Democrats win federal and state races, thanks to the candidates’ support of abortion rights. The issue has emerged as a linchpin of President Biden’s re-election strategy.

A surge in power use threatens U.S. climate goals

Demand for electricity, which has stayed largely flat for two decades, has surged in the U.S. Utilities are facing an explosion in the number of data centers, a resurgence in manufacturing, and millions of electric vehicles being plugged in — and have nearly doubled their forecasts of how much additional power they’ll need by 2028. This expansion could jeopardize the country’s plans to fight climate change .

A pageant of hockey hair.

Minnesota’s state high school hockey tournament is a four-day smorgasbord of slap shots, glove saves and power plays — and the global hub for “hockey hair.” The tradition stretches back to N.H.L. greats like Guy Lafleur and Marty McSorley, who once took to the ice with epic mullets. It’s an opportunity for the players to see who can out-mullet their peers.

“As soon as our players make the state tournament, it’s like, ‘Guys, come on, we’ve got to play hockey now,’” one coach said. “And they’re busy making hair appointments to get perms.”

Judge clears way for Trump to appeal ruling keeping Fani Willis on Georgia 2020 election case

ATLANTA (AP) — The judge overseeing the Georgia 2020 election interference case cleared the way Wednesday for Donald Trump and other defendants to appeal a ruling allowing Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to remain on the prosecution.

Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee’s ruling means defense attorneys can ask the Georgia Court of Appeals to review the judge’s decision not to disqualify Willis or dismiss the indictment over her romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade. It will be up to the appeals court to decide whether to hear the matter.

The judge said he would continue working to get the case ready for trial by addressing other matters in the meantime.

But while Willis had made clear her determination to turn the page from weeks of embarrassing headlines, the judge’s decision to green-light the appeal allows defense attorneys to keep at the forefront allegations of impropriety that threaten to damage the public’s perception of the prosecution.

McAfee last week said Willis can remain on the most sprawling of four criminal cases against the former president as long as Wade resigns, which Wade did on Friday.

Willis’ romantic relationship with Wade has roiled the case for weeks, overshadowing the allegations charging Trump and 18 others with trying to illegally overturn his narrow loss to Democrat Joe Biden in 2020 in Georgia in a desperate bid to remain in power. Among the acts listed in the indictment was a Jan. 2, 2021, phone call in which Trump urged fellow Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to help him “find” the 11,780 votes needed to beat Biden.

While the judge did not find Willis’ relationship with Wade created a conflict of interest that should force her off the case, he said an “appearance of impropriety” infected the prosecution team. The judge rebuked Willis for her “tremendous” lapse in judgment and questioned the truthfulness of Wade’s and her testimony about the timing of their relationship.

Attorneys for Trump and the other defendants said in court papers on Monday that Wade’s resignation was not enough to correct the appearance of impropriety the judge found. Defense lawyers say a failure to remove Willis could imperil any convictions and force a retrial if an appeals court later finds it was warranted.

Trump attorney Steve Sadow called the judge’s decision to allow the appeal “highly significant.”

“The defense is optimistic that appellate review will lead to the case being dismissed and the DA being disqualified,” Sadow said in an email.

Jeff DiSantis, a spokesman for the district attorney’s office, noted in a text message that the case had not been put on hold, adding that prosecutors will “work to move it forward to trial as quickly as possible.” The district attorney’s office will only comment on the appeal in court filings, he said.

Trump has pleaded not guilty and has denied doing anything wrong. The presumptive Republican nominee for the 2024 presidential election has characterized all the criminal cases against him as an effort to hurt his bid to reclaim the White House in November.

Defense attorneys alleged that Willis paid Wade large sums for his work and then improperly benefited from the prosecution of the case when Wade used his earnings to pay for vacations for the two of them.

Willis and Wade acknowledged they engaged in a romantic relationship, but they rejected the idea that Willis improperly benefited from it. Willis and Wade insisted they didn’t begin dating until after he became special prosecutor and the relationship ended in the summer of 2023. They both said that Willis either paid for things herself or used cash to reimburse Wade for travel expenses.

Wade offered his resignation in a letter to Willis on Friday, saying he was doing so “in the interest of democracy, in dedication to the American public and to move this case forward as quickly as possible.”

“I will always remember — and will remind everyone — that you were brave enough to step forward and take on the investigation and prosecution of the allegations that the defendants in this case engaged in a conspiracy to overturn Georgia’s 2020 Presidential Election,” Willis wrote in a letter accepting his resignation.

The case is separate from the 2020 election interference case brought by special counsel Jack Smith in Washington’s federal court. That case is currently on hold while the U.S. Supreme Court weighs Trump’s claims of presidential immunity, with oral arguments scheduled for next month.

Character Analysis Nikolay Rostov

Very good at saying the obvious, Nikolay is unimaginative and conservative, a man of action rather than of ideas. Although his development does not chart a course of agonized illuminations, as do the careers of Andrey and Pierre, his adulthood maximizes the positive qualities of his personality; thus, with all his shortcomings, he is a"successful" character.

Motivated by utilitarian drives, Nikolay is always straightforward and never masks his intentions by thoughts of"virtue" or"doing for others." While this utilitarianism and lack of hypocrisy cause Nikolay to reject Sonya in favor of marrying an heiress, these very qualities guarantee his marriage. Marya's religious depths provide her husband with an added dimension of soul that he lacks, even as her wealth provides him with the capital he requires. Her submission to Christian virtue is similar to Nikolay's submission to the higher authority of the state. Tolstoy thus approves of Nikolay's self-interest, and makes everything he does fruitful, at the same time disapproving of and rejecting Sonya for her empty selflessness.

Judge clears way for Trump to appeal ruling keeping Fani Willis on Georgia 2020 election case
