Double Century: 4 crazy design features from 200m yacht concept
Dual helipads – and toys galore.
Craig Timm of 4Yacht is back with another far-out concept. The Florida yacht broker – who also brought us the so-called world's biggest superyacht, billion-dollar Triple Deuce – presents us with an almost equally improbable 200 metre superyacht concept named Double Century. But this time, rather than just releasing an outline of a yacht, 4Yacht stepped up their game and partnered with a designer to show some renderings.
Whether Double Century has any better chance than Triple Deuce of hitting the water is yet to be seen, but this yacht concept does have some proposed wow-factors that are hard to ignore.
Here are the top four wow-factors of the 200 metre Double Century superyacht concept
1. Dual helipads – and toys galore
Little-known designer Christopher Seymour has designed the 200 metre Double Century superyacht concept with not one but two helipads. And a helicopter as large as an EC135 is said to be able to be hosted in the hangar bay below.
Beyond this, the yacht would be able to host the typical water toys and some cars and submarines, too.
2. Accommodations for 50 guests - all in suites
The Double Century yacht would be able to carry up to 50 guests, and the design for this massive 200 metre yacht concept proposes that the 50 guests will be accommodated in “deluxe cabins.”
The owner’s suite and all of the VIP staterooms on Deck 7 would have their own living areas, his-and-hers bathrooms and 270-degree views.
Cruise ship-style entertainment
So just how do you keep 50 guests entertained? With cruise ship-style diversions, of course. According to 4Yacht, the wild Double Century concept will have a 126-seat theatre with an adjacent bar for a drink after enjoying a stage show. Those who don’t feel like partaking could find respite in the 200 metre superyacht's library with a garden.
There will also be some classic big luxury yacht features, such as multiple swimming and spa pools, a disco, cinema, beauty and massage parlours, gyms and saunas.
Also promised: “New York-style and Monte Carlo-style cafes.”
Eight elevators servicing her nine decks
The 200 metre Double Century yacht concept is said to have eight elevators that will service her nine decks, which in total rise 27 metres above the sea.
For those that think this yacht might be too big, well, 4Yacht assures that she “can be scaled down to 185 metres without losing decks”. And too small? No problem! She can also be scaled up to 225 metres.
As the yachting industry well knows, a fancy concept does not a new build contract make. Double Century certainly proposes some interesting wow-factors, but until there is ink dried on a contract, or better yet steel cut in the yard (and a yard named), we’ll continue to honour Azzam as the world’s largest yacht .

FAITH Yacht – Impeccable $200 M Superyacht
Delivered in 2017, FAITH yacht has a length of 96.55 meters (316.77 ft) and is currently ranked 59th on the list of largest yachts in the world.
She was built by the Dutch shipyard Feadship , which is a leading builder of high-end customised luxury yachts. FAITH was voted the best motor yacht in the world in 2018.
FAITH yacht interior
The mega yacht FAITH was designed by Redman Whiteley Dixon (RWD), a British design firm in collaboration with Chahan Interior Design, another well-known name in yachts and real estate design. Up to 18 guests can be accommodated in nine luxurious state-of-the-art suites in addition to a crew of 32. The private owner’s deck has an indoor and outdoor fireplace and a large lounge with a home theatre.
All other guest cabins are located on the main deck with two VIP suites and four spacious double cabins.
FAITH also features a beach club, a fitness room on the sundeck, an indoor and outdoor cinema, a wine cellar, a beautiful wellness area, and an elevator between the main decks.
FAITH yacht specifications
The 96.55 meters (316.77 ft) long superyacht FAITH has a beam of 14.5 meters (47.57 ft) and a volume of just under 3,000 tons.
With her two MTU diesel engines, FAITH reaches top speeds of 17 knots and an average cruising speed of 15 knots, allowing her to reach destinations up to 5,000 nautical miles away. Currently, FAITH sails under the flag of the Cayman Islands.
FAITH yacht exterior
The exterior of FAITH is all-white with a sleek and modern design. The yacht includes a wood-fired pizza oven, a charcoal grill on the sundeck, a helipad, as well as a large 9×4 meter swimming pool with a glass bottom and waterfall.
There are also two 10-meter tenders and a water ski boat along with plenty of toys, such as a flyboard, a slide, jet skis, sea bobs, kayaks, and many more to entertain guests.
FAITH yacht price
Lawrence Stroll is believed to have paid a price of US $200 million for FAITH. The annual running costs amount to US $15 to 20 million dollars depending on use.
FAITH is currently not for sale, however, she is available for charter on a weekly basis.
Depending on the season, weekly charter costs range from US $1.2 million to $1.5 million, not including any additional charges.
While some might consider this a downgrade in terms of size, it is important to note that 80 meters offers a heightened level of convenience and versatility when it comes to exploring various yachting destinations.
By opting for this size, Lawrence Stroll ensures that his new yacht can navigate a wide range of captivating locations with ease, providing an extraordinary yachting experience for himself and his guests.

200 Meter Superyacht, Double Century, Launched
200 Meters: Double Century
“4Yacht is honored that Christopher Seymour has chosen us to exclusively market and help bring Double Century to build,” said Craig Timm, of 4Yacht Inc. http://www.4yacht.com based in Fort Lauderdale, FL. “Christopher is known for his innovative designs over many different size categories. Double Century brings his exceptional skills to the superyacht market and is sure to push the envelope into the next tier of sophisticated luxury.”
Seymour is also excited about working with 4Yacht, noting, “Double Century was created to be the next step in the evolution of gigayachts. I want the concept to be something magnificent, respected and admired for what the vessel is, not because of who owns, built or designed her, but for her own merits.”
“What Double Century needs is someone with vision, someone who wants to give life to an exceptional vessel, make it their own and put a distinctive stamp on the luxury yachting industry,” Craig Timm said.
Per Seymour’s design, Double Century already has an outstanding unique feature, with not one, but two helipads, that will allow owners and guests to access the vessel at the same time no matter where she is. There’s even a boarding lounge where owners or guests can gather while waiting for their flight to depart. Additionally, Double Century has a large hangar bay that provides storage for a whirlybird as large as an EC135.
Access is another prime consideration because of the vessel’s immense size. To that end, Seymour has strategically placed eight elevators throughout Double Century in key locations so that guests can easily travel to all areas.
“I wanted to bring some of these features back into Double Century,” Seymour said. “Thus, she has sheer, stem, chines, larges deck spaces and outstanding interior spaces like a theater/stage and large staircases in addition to the elevators. I would love to see one of he world’s best interior designers create an unforgettable interior that will really make her special.”
Logistically, the vessel’s layout was also challenging, with the forward section carrying a majority of her toys, such as cars and submarines in addition to helicopters, while luxury features such as pools, spas, sun beds, lounges and the like are found aft.
As one might expect of a superyacht of this size, Double Century will have the ability to host over 50 guests in luxurious cabins. The main owner suite and VIP cabins are located forward on Deck 7. All offer opulent living areas, with open room layouts allowing 270 degree views, and his and hers bathrooms and wardrobes. Aft of the owner’s suite are guest cabins for family. A small cinema, study and office are also in this area, along with an open space offering lounge and entertainment areas complete with open bars, dining and a piano. On deck are a gorgeous outdoor lounge, small bar and sunbeds.
Double Century’s trump card is her theater/stage on Deck 4 that can seat up to 126 guests to allow for stylish entertainment even when anchored in remote areas. Nearby bar areas provide entertainment for guests before and after the show. The ship also has a disco on the deck below, and includes a large dance floor, bar and turntable area.
Other notable features are multiple large swimming pools with quarter moon lounges, several beauty and massage areas, open gym with saunas, a library with a garden, New York-style and Monte Carlo-style cafes, a cinema, a huge beach club and a complete set of water toys, including tenders, jet skis and diving gear. Due to Double Century’s size, she will have her own GPS phone app so all guests and crew will know their deck location when they log on.
As the vessel is still under development, options remain open for power plants. Current plans call for Double Century to be powered by a single gas turbine generator producing 19,000kW coupled with twin diesel 16V32/40 generators producing 7,500 kW per side. These will be coupled with two pod units, making the vessel very efficient. Such a power plant set-up means fewer restrictions with layout and better placement of engineering for increased sea keeping. The vessel will have a maximum speed of 20-plus knots and a cruise speed of 15 knots with a huge 9,000nm range. A large tank system that pumps water around Double Century along with six Quantum Maglift ML600 stabilizers will ensure that the yacht will be comfortable in all conditions.
Even though Double Century comes in at 200m, she can be scaled down to 185m without losing decks or scaled up to a colossal 225m. Craig noted that the negotiating point for the groundbreaking superyacht starts at €699 million. Potential owners can expect her to be in build for about four years.

Nuvolari Lenard unveils 200m Centerfold superyacht concept
The new vessel could become one of the largest and fastest on the planet.
Italian design studio Nuvolari Lenard has officially unveiled the concept of the 202-meter superyacht Centerfold, built from high-strength steel and aluminum. Equipped with “the latest low emission eco-technologies”, the vessel is able to operate, including in zero mode, fully powered by battery in “Stealth Mode” electric mode. This option will become indispensable in areas with strict emission regulations, and will also be used to organize quiet cruises without noise and environmental pollution.
At the same time, in the classic high-speed Centerfold mode, with 100,000 hp engines, the yacht is capable of reaching speeds of 35 knots. Additionally, there are numerous combined modes.
The hybrid superyacht concept was presented in collaboration with photographer Jarmo Pohjaniemi, who brought “new perspectives and techniques to the image of the yacht”. According to the photographer, the brainchild of Nuvolari Lenard designers can be described as a “fantastic playground”.
“I feel privileged that I was able to capture her pure essence in the most beautiful light and environment,” commented Pohjaniemi. In turn, the co-founder of the studio Dan Lenard said: “We put maximum creativity into the design itself. It blurs the boundaries between yacht design and art, so that everyone who sees these images can enjoy, not just the one who ultimately owns the yacht.”
Experts note that if the concept becomes a reality, Centerfold will be among the largest superyachts in history. The vessel features a gigantic displacement of 16,800 GT, stunning performance and amazing proportions that certainly make it one of the fastest on the planet as well.

Bullet is designed to have minimal impact on the environment, too. The yacht is equipped with four 2,000 hp electro-diesel generators that produce the lion’s share of the power. She is also fitted with a few solar panels that generate clean, green energy for the hotel load. As far as propulsion is concerned, two azipods with electric motors churn out 1,940 kW to give Bullet an estimated cruising speed of 22 knots and a top speed of 26 knots.
The vessel is also well suited to long crossings with a range of 3,000 nautical miles at 14 knots. In terms of autonomy, Gnessi says Bullet will be able to cruise quietly on pure electricity for about 90 minutes at a speed of eight knots. Right, now it sounds more like Audi’s zero-emissions Q8 E-Tron SUV.
Onboard, meanwhile, Bullet offers a bonkers interior volume of 975 GT. The living quarters are the epitome of “Made in Italy,” with the decor and furnishings showcasing the best of the boot-shaped country. Gnessi says there are plenty of “convivial spaces for parties,” but there is also a strong emphasis on privacy to ensure you can enjoy your downtime.
Whether or not you think Bullet is on target, it really is a matter of perspective.

"Our 'spaceship' line redefines the volumes, exterior areas and features available in yachts of this size, drawing from a palette of elements such as wrap-around glazing, forward owner’s suite and high bow."
Wally shifted the dial on yacht design with the wallywhy200. Innovative in so many ways, its bold aesthetic is only matched by the incredible range of features that can be offered by its 200-gross tonne volume. With its full-wide body, the signature of this futuristic space ship is the vast owner’s suite in the bow, which seems to hang over the water below. Wally has expertly engineered a strip of tall glass running all the way round the main deck, providing the cabin with a 270-degree panoramic views and astonishing natural light. And yet, this high 4.7m bow is part of a hull form has been studied in minute detail to provide stability, eliminate slamming and still deliver semi-displacement performance. Renowned designer Laurent Giles developed the naval architecture specifically for this yacht, which was exhaustively tank-tested in Southampton. Combined with the Volvo IPS pod propulsion system, the wallywhy200 can cruise at 20 knots and hit 23 knots flat out with the optional enhanced power package. The design is breathtaking, with elegant teak decking and steps that cascade down to the beach club aft, which extends with wings at the side and a hydraulic bathing platform that doubles as a passerelle. A 4.15m tender and other toys are garaged invisibly behind the wings. An enormous upper deck is presided over by Wally’s signature glass and carbon dome. And on the lower deck, there are a luxurious VIP suite and two dazzling guest cabins. An eye-catching carbon fibre staircase connects all the decks – laminated in a single piece to give structural support and eliminate bulkheads. This creates open entertaining spaces that blend seamlessly into the exterior.
The Wow Bow.
Wunderkammer welcome.

Humongous $200M superyacht arrives in Vancouver
- Share by Email

A 95-metre superyacht priced at $200 million was spotted cruising through False Creek before docking in North Vancouver.
Attessa V Yacht was built in 2010 by Blohm and Voss, a German shipbuilding and engineering company. It arrived in Vancouver on Tuesday and moved over to a dock in North Vancouver on Wednesday morning.
AV can entertain 24 guests in 12 rooms and has a crew of 33 people. It features a large swimming pool on the deck, a private movie theatre and a jet pool jacuzzi.
The superyacht was designed by Michael Leach Design and soars in ’speed and style.’
It costs $10 to $20 million per year to run the yacht.
Website SuperYacht.com lists the owner of the AV as Dennis Washington, an 88-year-old American billionaire whose net worth is listed at US$6.4 billion and is ranked number 397 in Forbes' richest people in the world .
Washington, from Montana, claims to be ‘self-made’ and owns a copper mining, marine transportation and heavy equipment business, according to Forbes. He is married with two children. In an interview with Forbes.com, Washington said his passion is boats.
Washington’s network of companies includes Washington Marine Group and Seaspan Shipyards in North Vancouver, where Kyle Washington, Dennis Washington’s son, is executive chairman.
The AV Yacht was previously known as Palladium and is listed as an award-winning superyacht. It was previously owned by Mikhail Prokhorov, a Russian oligarch and previous owner of the Brooklyn Nets. The yacht drew attention when The Late Show host Stephen Colbert visited Prokhorov on the yacht.
Superyachts flocking to Vancouver Island
Superyachts flock to B.C. every year. One recently drew attention in B.C.’s capital when a Brazilian billionaire docked in Victoria.
The 62-metre-long vessel called the Anawa was docked at Ship Point on May 30, clad with its own helicopter on deck.
Billionaire Jorge Paulo Lemann owns the yacht, according to Superfanyacht.com. Forbes.com says the investor-philanthropist lives in Switzerland and is worth $14.8 billion.
Anawa was custom-designed and built in 2020 by Damen Yachting. It’s one of the company’s SeaXplorer class of vessels, billed as “long-range, luxury expedition” yachts.
It can carry 12 guests and 15 crew plus a captain, Damen said.
Back in 2020, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones's yacht was spotted in the waters off Vancouver Island . The "Bravo Eugenia" is worth an estimated quarter-billion dollars.
The superyacht is designed to use 30 per cent less fuel than other vessels of its size and class but it doesn't skimp on amenities. The "Bravo Eugenia" can accommodate 14 guests and 30 crew members and features six guest suites, a beach lounge, spa and gym.
On Tuesday, the AV Yacht wasn’t the only yacht drawing attention. A 32-metre vessel called the Snowbored was passing through False Creek with the final destination of Galiano Island.
The Snowbored, built by Westport in 2003, is a 32-metre vessel with a satin cherry wood interior, and a sundeck sporting a hot tub, wet bar, and lounge pads. It also has a fighting chair and rocket launcher for sport fishing, and can launch a Novurania tender and Yamaha waverunners.
In a statement to Glacier Media, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority says anyone wishing to view the Attessa V in Vancouver's inner harbour area by boat "is urged to ensure they do so from a safe distance." "We love seeing boaters and paddlers out enjoying the waters that make up the Port of Vancouver," says Jason Krott, manager of marine operations and fleet. "Our focus is working with all users to build the awareness and understanding needed to support a safe shared space for recreational and commercial traffic."

First Amels 200 Yacht STELLA M Delivered to New Owner
By Jenna Mehdi
Amels and Damen Yachting have successfully delivered the 60m Amels 200 superyacht STELLA M. The first yacht to be delivered from the Amels 200 Limited Editions range, STELLA M departed the Damen Yachting Vlissingen City yard in the Netherlands in time for a busy summer season in the Mediterranean.
The delivery comes just a year and a half after the yacht’s sale was announced towards the end of 2019. Captain Spyros Karalis had been on location at the yard for the better part of a year, overseeing the build and final outfitting on behalf of the yacht's owner.
He comments, ‘This summer season is going to be very full on. We have plans to cruise the whole Mediterranean starting from Spain and then up to Greece, with France, Italy and all the other islands in between. I am very much looking forward to getting her out on the ocean and welcoming the Owner on board for all the adventures that lie ahead.’
Amels and Damen Yachting sales manager Jorrit Pilaar commented on behalf of the yard:
‘We are very proud to hand STELLA M over to her Owner. It has been a very intense project in challenging times but her delivery, on-time and on-budget, really comes down to the great collaboration between all parties involved. We wish her Owner and crew all the best and look forward to seeing STELLA M all across the Med this summer.’
The first Amels 200 yacht has been customised with bespoke interiors by British design studio Reymond Langton. Her 60m Limited Editions exterior is an evolution of the popular Amels 188 penned by Tim Heywood Design.
Tim Heywood comments on the originality and ingenuity of her exterior: ‘I believe her delicate, fluid lines will prove to be timeless and she will still look as attractive in 50 years' time, as she does now.’
On his favourite aspects of the design, Heywood adds, ‘ The many flying buttresses, the complex winding surfaces, the upturned deck ends, the integrated life rafts, the sculptural mast and the complex stern, all form a harmonious design that sits securely in her environment, of which I am extremely proud.’
The Amels 200 shares many of the appealing features of her predecessor, including hybrid electrical power technology, a four-deck elevator and air-conditioned gym on sun deck. Her additional length has allowed for various enhancements, however, including larger aft decks, swim platform and full-height windows in the owner’s suite.
Tim explains how this extra length allows for more maneuverability in the design: ‘The additional length invested into this design, has only increased her elegance and sophisticated appearance, as well as elevating the functionality of her interior, which is illuminated by enlarged windows.’
The Amels 200 Limited Editions range has already proven a strong commercial success since the first sale, with the Dutch shipyard announcing the third unit sold just last month.

Russian oligarch's yacht is costing U.S. taxpayers close to $1 million a month
A mega-yacht seized by U.S. authorities from a Russian oligarch is costing the government nearly $1 million a month to maintain, according to new court filings.
- The Justice Department is seeking permission to sell Amadea, which it seized in 2022, alleging that it was owned by sanctioned Russian billionaire Suleiman Kerimov.
- Attorneys for Eduard Khudainatov, an ex-Rosneft CEO who has not been sanctioned, say he owns the yacht, and have sought to take back possession of the vessel.
The U.S. Department of Justice is seeking permission to sell a 348-foot yacht called Amadea, which it seized in 2022, alleging that it was owned by sanctioned Russian billionaire Suleiman Kerimov. The government said it wants to sell the $230 million yacht due to the "excessive costs" of maintenance and crew, which it said could total $922,000 a month.
"It is excessive for taxpayers to pay nearly a million dollars per month to maintain the Amadea when these expenses could be reduced to zero through [a] sale," according to a court filing by U.S. prosecutors on Friday.
The monthly charges for Amadea, which is now docked in San Diego, California, include $600,000 per month in running costs: $360,000 for the crew; $75,000 for fuel; and $165,000 for maintenance, waste removal, food and other expenses. They also include $144,000 in monthly pro-rata insurance costs and special charges including dry-docking fees, at $178,000, bringing the total to $922,000, according to the filings.

The battle over Amadea and the costs to the government highlight the financial and legal challenges of seizing and selling assets owned by Russian oligarchs after the country's invasion of Ukraine. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said last week that the European Union should use profits from more than $200 billion of frozen Russian assets to fund Ukraine's war effort.
Her comments echoed government calls in the spring of 2022 to freeze the yachts, private jets and mansions of Russian billionaires in hopes of putting pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin and raising money for the war effort.
Yet, nearly two years later, the legal process for proving ownership of the Russian assets and selling them has proven to be far more time-consuming and costly. In London, Russian billionaire Eugene Shvidler has waged a court battle over his private jets that were impounded, and Sergei Naumenko has been appealing the detention of his superyacht Phi.
The battle over Amadea began in April 2022, when it was seized in Fiji at the request of the U.S. government, according to the court filings.
Though the U.S. alleges that the yacht is owned by Kerimov, who made his fortune in mining, attorneys for Eduard Khudainatov, an ex-Rosneft CEO who has not been sanctioned, say he owns the yacht, and have sought to take back possession of the vessel.
In court filings, Khudainatov's attorneys have objected to the U.S. government's efforts to sell the yacht, saying a rushed sale could lead to a distressed sale price and that the maintenance costs are minor relative to the potential sale value.
Khudainatov's attorneys refuse to pay the ongoing maintenance costs as long as the government pursues a sale and forfeiture. However, they say their client will reimburse the U.S. government for the more than $20 million already spent to maintain the yacht if it's returned to its proper owner.
In court papers, the government says Kerimov disguised his ownership of Amadea through a series of shell companies and other owners. They say emails between crew members show Kerimov "was the beneficial owner of the yacht, irrespective of the titleholder of the vessel."
The emails show that Kerimov and his family ordered several interior improvements of the yacht, including a new pizza oven and spa, and that between 2021 and 2022, when the boat was seized, "there were no guest trips on the Amadea that did not include either Kerimov or his family members," according to the court filings.
The government also says Kerimov has been trying to sell Amadea for years, so a sale would be in keeping with his intent.
"This is not a situation in which a court would be ordering sale of a precious heirloom that a claimant desperately wishes to keep for sentimental reasons," the government said in filings.
Even if Amadea were sold quickly, the proceeds wouldn't automatically go to the government. Under law, the money would be held while Khudainatov and the government continue their battle in court over the ownership and forfeiture. Don't miss these stories from CNBC PRO:

Va. couple missing in Caribbean likely killed, thrown off boat, police say
A Virginia couple missing in the Caribbean for more than a week were probably killed by three escaped prisoners who hijacked their catamaran in Grenada and threw the pair overboard as they sailed to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, authorities said Monday.
Junior Simmons, superintendent of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force, said at a news conference that Ralph Hendry and Kathy Brandel, a retired couple, are presumed dead, but that the search for them continues by air and sea in the roughly 100-mile stretch of the Caribbean between the islands of Grenada and St. Vincent. Public records show that two people by their names shared several addresses in Alexandria and Fairfax County over the past two decades.
Simmons said the joint investigation by his force and the Royal Grenada Police Force, aided by U.S. Embassy personnel, indicates that three men being held at a Grenadian jail on charges that include rape and robbery escaped Feb. 18 and kidnapped Hendry and Brandel, who were on board their 48-foot sailboat Simplicity, moored at a beach on the small island.
“While sailing from Grenada the suspects committed several criminal acts including bodily harm to the couple,” Simmons said. Don McKenzie, commissioner of the Grenada force, said at a separate news conference Monday that it is believed the suspects “disposed of the occupants” on their way to St. Vincent.
The couple had sailed from Hampton, Va., to Antigua for a boat rally in November and were spending the winter cruising the eastern part of the Caribbean, according to their boating group, the Salty Dawg Sailing Association. The two lived on the boat and were seasoned sailors, and Brandel had recently become a grandmother, according to a GoFundMe page.
The Salty Dawg Sailing Association said in a statement that a cruising skipper contacted the group on Feb. 21 to report that the Simplicity was moored and abandoned off the south coast of St. Vincent. The skipper also alerted the St. Vincent coast guard, and police were notified in turn.
“The good Samaritan had boarded the boat and noted that the owners … were not onboard and found evidence of apparent violence,” the statement said.
Simmons said that when investigators boarded the vessel, they found items strewn on the deck and in the cabin, and a red substance that appeared to be blood was found on the catamaran. The GoFundMe campaign organizer wrote that the catamaran had “chilling evidence of a violent struggle.”
Police launched a manhunt for the escaped prisoners and said the men were recaptured the same day the skipper found the boat.
Simmons said the three prisoners, all Grenadian residents, have been cooperating with the investigation and pleaded guilty to immigration violations in court. They are being held pending sentencing March 4. They have not yet been charged with crimes against Hendry and Brandel but are considered suspects, authorities said.
A spokesman for the Royal Grenada Police Force said an internal investigation has been launched into how the three prisoners escaped from the St. George Police Station. McKenzie said a supervisor at the jail has since been transferred.
The GoFundMe organizer wrote on the fundraising page that Hendry and Brandel were spending their retirement sailing on Simplicity. The Salty Dawg Sailing Association said in its statement that both were longtime members and that Brandel had served on the group’s board. The group described the couple as “warm hearted and capable.”
“Kathy and Ralph, experienced adventurers, spent their retirement sailing aboard Simplicity, spending summers in New England and embracing the warmth of Caribbean winters,” the GoFundMe page reads.
Nick Buro, a son of Brandel’s, and Bryan Hendry, a son of Hendry’s, said in a joint statement Tuesday that the couple “lived a life that most of us can only dream of.” Buro said in a text message that Brandel’s birthday was on Feb. 21, the day the Simplicity was found. She would have turned 71. Hendry was 66.
“We live in world that at times can be cruel, but it’s also a world of profound beauty, wonder, adventure, love, compassion, caring, and faith,” the statement said. “Our parents encompassed all those values and so much more. If we have learned anything from this tragic event, it’s that we know they left this world in a better place than it was before they were born.”
The statement said the couple made friends with “everyone they encountered, singing, dancing and laughing with friends and family.”
“While the end of their life may have been dark, they brought light, and that light will never be extinguished from the hearts and minds of the people who knew, loved and cared so deeply about them,” the statement said.

Odd detail in wedding snap fires up social media users
Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.
A groom has been called out for an unusual detail in his wedding outfit, with someone drawing attention to his footwear.
The groom was snapped standing at the altar with his bride, with both parties in the couple looking flawless and well-manicured.
But one Reddit user pointed out the groom war wearing black Crocs and black socks so it all blended in.
“Imagine you get ready for three hours and your groom shows up in Crocs,” the social media user said.
Surprisingly, social media users who are typically quick to call out wedding faux pas, came out in droves to defend the man’s footwear choice.
“I hope it’s an inside joke between the two of them and she’s also wearing crocs? I can’t see her feet so idk,” one social media user said.
Another added: “He probably has an injured foot or broken toe. He’s perfectly groomed (a pun) otherwise and obviously tried to camouflage his socks and crocs with his attire.”
“My fiance and I get married in November. He’s wearing Vans and I’m wearing high top Converses lol! We wanted to be comfy! My aunt is also embroidering a cute blue flower and our wedding date onto my shoe,” another said.
One social media user commented: “I wore flip flops under my dress. I hate heels with a passion.”
“I get plantar fasciitis and just wearing Crocs around the house and on dog walks really helps. The other big change I made was no more cheap shoes for work, even if they’re cute, and figuring out how to sit more at work,” another commented.
One shared that they wore slippers to their wedding.
“They were white beaded slippers so if they peeked out it was all good but sooooo much more comfortable than any dress shoe and my husband is only two inches taller than me so heals and wedding pictures was a no go,” the social media user said.
Another added: “Let the man get married in something comfortable. My wife could have shown up in a potato sack barefoot for all I cared, she is there to marry me, not for a fashion show.”
