DESIGNED FOR THE TOUGHEST RACE ON EARTH.

The Volvo Ocean 65 is the new one-design boat that contested the 2014-15 edition of the Volvo Ocean Race. It will also be the one design used for the 2017-18 edition. At 65ft LOA the new yachts are slightly shorter than the previous generation of Volvo Open 70s but will be more reliable, robust and affordable while still being a very high performance racing boat.

The new boat is designed by Farr Yacht Design with a consortium of four boatyards taking care of the build process — Green Marine in the United Kingdom, Decision in Switzerland, Persico in Italy and Multiplast in France.

“Farr Yacht Design is pretty uniquely positioned in that we have an enormous Volvo Ocean Race experience," said Patrick Shaughnessy, President of Farr Yacht Design. "We have designed 40 boats for the race, been involved in nine editions, the last few campaigns we've been on the ground 100 percent of the time supporting the teams and really been part of the race, and the thing that makes us a little unique is that we can combine that with an enormous one-design experience. I don't believe there's another team in the world that can present all those parts and that's really I think what makes us ideally suited for this opportunity.”

Volvo 70 – Ocean Breeze

Volvo 70 Ocean Breeze, formerly Telefonica Blue and Sanya Lan, competed in the 2008-2009 and 2011-2012 Volvo Ocean Race Round the World.

At the launch the Volvo Open 70 was not a singular yacht design but a set of design rules to which competing boats must adhere. Competing teams design and build boats within the scope of this rule to try and come up with the fastest boat . The Volvo 70 repeatedly broke monohull speed record and Volvo 70’s held the record for over 10 years. The Volvo 70 was replaced in the Ocean race in 2014/15 by the Volvo 65 but the Volvo 70 live on and are regular seen on the race course competition at the highest level around the world.

Ocean Breeze is a Volvo 70 designed and built for high performance, long distance offshore racing at the highest level. Ocean Breeze is a great example of a pure-bred racing machine, ready to endure the toughest of conditions. Ocean Breeze had a comprehensive refit in 2018 and is continually maintained.

OCEAN BREEZE is a second generation Volvo Open 70, started in 2008 as TELEFONICA BLUE, designed by the Farr office and built by King Marine. She entered the following edition of the VO-race as SANYA LAN. Now she is ready for race-charters, incentives and corporate sailing. PUMA Ocean Racing's Volvo 70 "il mostro" is up for sale as the team build a new boat for the 2011-12 edition of the race

PUMA’s “il mostro” – which finished second in the 2008-2009 Volvo Ocean Race – is seriously up for sale. Why? With the new Volvo Ocean Race rules there is no more two boat testing allowed as a cost saving measure to help teams reduce their overall budgets.

PUMA Ocean Racing is in the process of building a new boat for the 2011-2012 edition of the race, so “il mostro” is now available to an up-and-coming VOR team, or an ambitious owner ready to compete in any type of offshore racing under ORR or IRC.

Ex CHESSIE RACING, ex ASSA ABLOY, ex BIG ONE, this Volvo 60 currently known as CHESSEA was refitted with new deck giving a higher headroom of 1.93m. She has fantastic performances (up to 30 knots). Mike then went on Boat Captain the race boat in the toughest yacht race in the world. That experience gives him extensive knowledge on race yacht build requirements for all types of race yachts no matter their racing performance. 

Mike has also worked directly under private race yacht owners and managed their various yacht racing campaigns and race crews. The yacht racing campaigns were based in various locations around the World which required a meticulous level of detail to meet the expectations of result driven owners.
