Royal Deck Tearoom

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

First time visiting the Britannia on a weekend away for our anniversary, so we thought why not do the Moët Cream Tea special for two. Sandwiches and cakes were delicious, half bottle of Moët & Chandon and a large pot of tea. Staff served well,... they served us the Moët, followed by the sandwiches. Then once these had been finished they served the tea and cakes. Definitely worth a visit. More

Lovely service and fantastic food served in a super environment. We had a family lunch for 5 and the various platters we had where so well presented, high quality and delicious. I would highly recommend this to finish off what is a really interesting tour.

Decided to have lunch here after touring the yacht and, despite a bit of trepidation as to how pricy it might be, were pleasantly surprised. We found the somewhat limited selections very fairly priced, especially when the setting was taken into consideration. We each had... a Bailey's Hot Chocolate (just what it sounds like cocoa laced with liqueur) and lunch platters - one salmon and one ham. Both were filling and quite good. Considering the added experience of the meal after touring the yacht, this is highly recommended. More

Thank you for giving Britannia’s Royal Deck Tearoom five stars. It is lovely to read that you highly recommend to others a stop off at the Tearoom during your tour to partake in the delicious treats which are all prepared in the original onboard Galleys.... More

Didn’t mind a 20 minute queue you expect this attraction to be busy. We were seated and given menus, we then waited over 30 minutes to be served, in the end we had to ask someone to take our order. We only ordered a drink... each and a slice of cake, when it arrived the glass of rose wine we ordered was fizzy, we checked with the waiter he’d put through the correct one he assured us he had. Cake was a huge disappointment, I had carrot cake which was dry like weetabix. Husband had chocolate cake which was marginally better but I would have expected some sort of garnish on the side, it was disappointing to just have a slice of cake on a plate given the royal setting. I had a Tom Collins cocktail which was delicious but again would expect the serving to be in a better glass with more spark it was in a boring tall tumbler. When the bill arrived the waiter held it to his chest and asked who was paying, we asked to see the bill and low behold we had been charged for a pink Moët and not a rose wine. Blonde waitress with short hair was rude and huffy. All in all it was very flat and disappointing and I would recommend people save themselves the money. More

I was looking forward to having lunch here after a 30 minute wait on a very cold windy day. The staff from reception and all round the ship were very helpful and friendly, however that stopped in the tearoom. The waitresses seemed to be rushed... of their feet whilst the younger waiters weren’t really bothered. I didn’t mind paying £26 for afternoon tea but it was decidedly underwhelming and looked more like something prepackaged from a supermarket rather than a tearoom. With only 1 choice of sandwich and either a scone or cake. See for yourself in the photo. The Brittania itself is a lovely day out but I certainly didn’t feel welcome in the tearoom. More

Had tea and cake here and it wasn’t great, I ordered regular tea which was bagged then on my second cup a load of sludge came into my cup. I told the waitress who said it was loose leaf tea which I queried. They deducted... £0.38 off my bill as apparently that was the cost of a cup of tea even though it was £3.95. Sorry I won’t be returning as very overpriced and I’ve had better in high st chains like Starbucks/costa More

After our visit to the Royal Yacht we decided to see if they had a table for a late, light lunch at the cafe on the upper deck. Unfortunately our first impression was a poor one. We stood for several minutes waiting to be seated... even though the cafe wasn’t that busy & there were several empty tables. Several staff had made eye contact with us but seemingly chose to blatantly ignore not only us but also the several other people in the queue too! After the inappropriate “delay” we were eventually seated & things immediately improved. Our light lunch of ham/smoked salmon sandwiches, lemon drizzle/Victoria sponge cake, tea/coffee was totally delicious, beautifully presented & the waitress was extremely polite & helpful. Despite the excellent lunch because of the initial “delay” to be acknowledged/seated we can only aware the cafe 3*…..sorry! More

Four of us visited the Tea Room for lunch and we had to queue at the bottom of the stairs to get in for a considerable period of time as it was so busy, but even once we were in the Tea Room we stood... for another good while watching as staff flitted past us when we could see empty tables. It certainly looked like chaos, but as this was our second visit we knew that the wait would be worth it in the end. Once seated we looked over the menu, and then waited, and waited to be served, which was made even more annoying by the fact that other tables that had been seated after us were getting served. Eventually we placed our order and then had another fair wait for the food to be delivered to our table. I gave the Tea Room a five star review last time, but certainly don’t consider that we got five star service this time. Saying all that, if you are touring the Royal Yacht then you really must visit the Tea Room as you will miss out on a real treat – just be prepared to wait a long time for things to come together. More

I could only give three stars because of the poor service. I was only told when I got my bill how short staffed they were. If I had been informed of this at the start I would have marked it higher. I had a sandwich... and a coffee. I had to wait for some time for my order to be taken. The sandwich appeared after about 10 minutes but another 15 minutes went by and no sign of my coffee and I had to ask again. It eventually arrived and food and drink were fine. I was given a small discount for having to wait so long which is when I was told of the staff shortages. I did sympathise but could have been told earlier. Nice atmosphere and views but spoiled by the long wait. More

With the Royal Yacht being one of the attractions in the City open under lockdown restrictions we booked a tour. We were not far into the visit when the skies opened and therefore took the chance to skip into the tea room for morning scones... and hot drinks. Excellent choice, friendly, efficient staff and great cheese scones. We were especially impressed when on the opposite side of the tea room a child accidentally knocked over a large drink and the staff cleared with minimum fuss and order was restored. More

Such a great & memorable experience! Myself, my cousin & his wife did a portion of the tour then went to the tearoom for a meal. We were seated right away, a waiter came to our table delivered menus & took drink our orders. I... had the salmon & cheese sandwich/soup/chips combo meal it was amazing good! My family had desserts & coffee. It was very reasonably priced also. More

We are glad that you visited the Royal Deck Tearoom to try our delicious selection of scones, cakes, and sandwiches, made on board. Many thanks for visiting.

Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at the Royal Deck whilst onboard the Royal Yacht Britannia. Good selection of snacks and afternoon tea delights with the choice of many loose leaf teas. We had sandwiches which were the freshest we'd ever tasted and all of the staff... were very polite with great customer service - we felt very pampered. Would definitely recommend a visit whilst onboard - you're unable to book so we had to queue for a short while but due to the staff efficiencies we were soon sat at our table and service was very prompt. Would love to visit again. More

Great food and drinks. Staff very welcoming. We were serve by an efficient young professional lad, Fyodor (excuse the spelling if wrong). He made sure everything was okay throughout the meal and was very keen on giving a good experience to us!

Must do whilst doing The Royal Yacht Britannia tour. Amazing views, lovely staff. Scones very fresh & warm which always makes them taste good. Reasonable menu & lovely venue

We decided to have a break before taking the tour. We were first in and were asked to choose our table but the staff indicated a splendid window table with a great view. They were attentive but discrete. We ordered coffee/tea and scones and my... granddaughter said they were the best she had ever had. When home from Edinburgh Uni she works at 'the' Bettys in Harrogate so knows her scones and Fat Rascals. I must admit they ran those from the LimeTree in Knaresborough close. When we came to leave, the staff took the trouble to tell us about a few things to look out for on the tour which was helpful. All in all - Excellent. More

What a pleasure to know that you had an excellent experience in the Royal Deck Tearoom aboard The Royal Yacht Britannia. Visitors do enjoy five-star service from our fantastic Tearoom Team while taking in the lovely views across the Firth of Forth. Our Galley team... More

Royal Yacht Britannia interiors

Many tourists wonder what’s inside the Royal Yacht before they book their tickets.

Some out of curiosity and some to know if a visit to Royal Yacht Britannia is worth it.

We list below some of the highlights of this Palace on water.

State Apartments

The State Apartments are the collection of rooms where the Royals lived or entertained their guests.

The Royal family relaxed in the State Drawing Room whenever they traveled together.

It also acted as a reception room for up to 250 guests.

The Verandah Deck was a private space for the Royals, where they could sunbathe or enjoy quoits or deck hockey.

This area of the ship also had a collapsible swimming pool for the Royal Family to splash around if they wanted.

Sun Lounge at Royal Yacht Britannia

The Sun Lounge was one of the Queen’s favorite rooms onboard HMY Brittania.

The beautiful teak-lined room was a designated family room and offered a lot of privacy from the rest of the ship.

This massive dining room onboard Britannia has played host to the world’s most influential people, such as Nelson Mandela, Sir Winston Churchill, Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, etc.

With its white paneled walls adorned with gifts received during State visits, this room represents ultimate luxury.

Engine Room at Royal Yacht Britannia

The Engine Room is a testament to British marine engineering skills because, until the ship got decommissioned in 1997, everything was working fine.

This room is full of gleaming brass, chrome, and white enamel with the ‘heavy stuff’ under the hood pumping 12,000 horsepower, which would help Britannia and her four-bladed propellers to a maximum of 22.5 knots.

Eight men operated the Engine Room, Boiler Room, and associated machinery rooms.

The 240 Officers and Yachtsmen on board Her Majesty’s Yacht Britannia sometimes had to change their uniforms up to six times a day.

This is why it was the only ship in the Royal Navy to have a laundry service permanently on board.

The laundry machines, dryers, and steam presses on the ship worked non-stop, and sometimes the temperature even went up to 48 degrees Celcius (118 degrees Fahrenheit)

Admiral’s Cabin at Royal Yacht Britannia

The Admiral was responsible for Royal Yacht Britannia’s safe functioning and commanded the 19 officers and 220 Yachtsmen who operated the ship.

He worked, entertained, and often ate (he couldn’t join the other officers in their mess unless invited) in the Admiral’s Cabin. Image: Royalyachtbritannia.co.uk

Royal Yacht Britannia's Bridge

The Bridge was HMY Britannia’s center of command and control on all her journeys.

From here, the officers reporting into the Admiral navigated, passed orders, recorded the logbooks, etc.

Back then, all Royal Navy ships had a Navy, Army, and Air Force Institute shop, known as the NAAFI.

The crew members and the officers would shop for their daily needs, such as toothpaste, shaving creams, magazines, etc. in this shop.

I mean you gotta try a tea or champagne on the Royal Yacht. Walk up one of the stairs. We were promptly greeted and sat on a later Friday afternoon. The menu is pretty deep. We had traditional tea earlier in the afternoon, so we opted to share a chicken salad sandwich and a slice of carrot cake. We both had some bubbles before toured the yacht. The food was surprisingly good. The service and ambiance were on point. The whole yacht experience as good. Highest recommendation when in Edinburgh

an absolutely perfect dining experience. delicious food, decent prices, friendly service, and an incredible view. i tried the salmon sandwich and i thoroughly enjoyed it, it was very tasty. i also got a mocha which was equally as good and even came with foam art of the ship on top! definitely stop in for a bite to eat if you're visiting the ship.

Wonderful spot for afternoon tea! 10/10 recommend a royal experience! We'll definitely return!

It was nice and pleasantly British. My mother had tea and scones. I had a sandwich, chips (fries), and a cappuccino. Nice place on a great ship.

This is just a museum. It's a bit packed and a little expensive. The audio tour is free but starts putting you to sleep after a bit. Luckily there are chairs on the boat for you to sleep on ha. Staff is friendly. There's only 29 audio stops which adds up

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

This is a restuarant in the middle of your tour of the Royal Yacht Britannia. We only had tea and scones. About 40 pounds for 4 which is pricey. But we had fun imagining we were having tea with the Queen. You are paying for the experience. Tea was tea. Nothing special. But the scones were tasty, along with the cream and jam. The mocha was hot and delicious too, plus they sprinkled the brown sugar on top in the shape of the Britannia. Cute.

I visited the Royal Yacht Britannia, the royal family's luxurious private cruise ship known as a 'floating palace.' Take a look inside.

  • The Royal Yacht Britannia was the royal family's private yacht from 1953 to 1997.
  • The ship is now a museum open to the public in Edinburgh, Scotland.
  • The tour shows the Queen's bedroom, state rooms used for entertaining, and crew bunks.

The Royal Yacht Britannia was the royal family's private yacht from 1953 to 1997.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

With its many royal family vacations and official tours, the yacht logged over 1 million miles , the equivalent of one trip around the world for each of its 44 years at sea.

The Queen once said that "Britannia is the one place where I can truly relax."

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

The Labour government decommissioned the ship in 1997 due to its high operation cost of £11 million each year, Reuters reported . That's equivalent to about $23 million today.

At the decommissioning ceremony, the Queen  shed a rare public tear .

The ship has made several appearances in Netflix's "The Crown," including season five .

The yacht is now a museum open to the public in Edinburgh, Scotland.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

On a recent trip to Scotland , I booked a ticket for the Royal Yacht Britannia museum, which costs £18.50 ($23) for adults.

The entrance is located inside the Ocean Terminal shopping center in Edinburgh.

Before boarding the yacht, visitors walk through a museum detailing the boat's history and connection to the royal family.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

The five-story ship was a royal residence as well as a Royal Navy ship, with a full-time staff of more than 240 royal yachtsmen and officers.

The museum displays photos of the royal family's life aboard the ship, as well as items like crew uniforms.

Then, a walkway with more photos leads to the deck of the boat.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

The ship is docked on the water just outside the shopping center.

I listened to the audio tour of the ship on my phone by scanning a QR code.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

There were also separate listening devices available.

Each room of the ship had a number that you could type in and press "play" to hear about your surroundings in an array of languages.

The first stop was the bridge, the main control point of the yacht.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

In this small space, officers navigated the seas and recorded data in the ship's logbooks.

Outside, the flag deck is the highest point on the ship.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

Britannia had three masts, and different flags were used to communicate with other ships on the water.

The admiral's cabin and suite is the most spacious on the ship, aside from the royal apartments.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

The admiral's accommodations featured a day room, bedroom, bathroom, and pantry. The sofa and armchairs in the dayroom are over 100 years old and came from the previous royal yacht, Victoria and Albert III.

The royal family often sunbathed, played deck hockey, or swam in a collapsible swimming pool on the Veranda Deck.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

Part of the yacht's royal quarters, the deck was also used for receptions and group photos.

Prince Philip occasionally set up his easel on the deck to paint.

Overlooking the Veranda Deck, the Sun Lounge was one of the Queen's favorite rooms on the ship.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

Queen Elizabeth would often take her breakfast and afternoon tea in the Sun Lounge.

The Queen's bedroom on the Royal Yacht Britannia featured bed linens that once belonged to Queen Victoria.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

The embroidered silk panel above the Queen's bed, commissioned in 1953, cost £450 ($560, or $6,250 in today's money).

Her sheets were embossed with "HM The Queen."

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip had separate bedrooms connected by an adjoining door.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

Each room had its own bathroom.

Philip's bedroom featured red linens, and he requested pillowcases without lace trim.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

A button next to each of their beds would summon a royal steward.

Across the hall, the Honeymoon Suite was the only room onboard with a double bed.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

The double bed was requested by then-Prince Charles when he honeymooned with Princess Diana in 1981.

The room was also used as a nursery when the royal children were young.

The Anteroom served as a recreational space for the officers, off-limits to the rest of the crew.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

Officers would spend their time here listening to the radio and playing board games.

The royal family occasionally dined in the adjoining Wardroom.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

Britannia's 19 officers ate meals here, accompanied by the Royal Marines Band.

Britannia has three galleys, which are still working kitchens today.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

The galleys prepare food for the Royal Deck Tea Room and events hosted on the ship.

The Royal Deck Tea Room offers an extensive menu of soups, sandwiches, scones, and other treats for visitors to the museum.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

The royal family once used the space to entertain guests and play deck games.

The state dining room is the largest room on the Royal Yacht Britannia.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher, Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, Nelson Mandela, and many other world leaders dined here with the royal family.

The placement of each utensil was measured with a ruler.

Just off the state dining room, the Queen's sitting room served as her office.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

Here, the Queen would meet with her press secretaries and prepare for royal visits.

On the opposite side of the hall, the Duke of Edinburgh had his own sitting room.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

Both Philip and Charles used the room as a study. Philip kept a model of his first naval command, the HMS Magpie, above his desk.

The telephones connecting the sitting rooms to each other and their private secretaries' offices are identical to the phones used in Buckingham Palace.

The large Drawing Room and connecting Anteroom could accommodate up to 250 guests.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

The Drawing Room featured an electric fireplace and cozy floral furniture. When it wasn't being used as a reception space during formal events, the royal family used it to relax and play games on the card tables.

Petty officers and Royal Marine sergeants kicked back in their living quarters, also known as the mess.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

Petty officers would occasionally entertain the Queen and other royal family members here.

The crew bunks weren't as glamorous as the royal apartments.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

Each bunk folded up into a seat, and crew members stored their possessions in lockers.

Britannia's NAAFI (Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes) shop sold souvenirs and sweets, as well as essentials like toothpaste.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

Diana once bought Prince William a Britannia souvenir shirt from the shop. Today, it sells homemade fudge to museum guests.

The ship's sick bay and operating theater still feature the original furnishings from the 1950s.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

The ship's doctor attended to crew members, while the Queen's royal surgeon traveled with her on voyages.

Britannia's laundry room could reach temperatures of 120 degrees Fahrenheit as it washed up to 600 shirts in one day.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

The royal family's laundry was done on different days than the crew's laundry.

All of the clocks onboard the Royal Yacht Britannia are stopped at 3:01 p.m.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

The clocks are frozen at the  time the Queen stepped off the ship for the last time  during its decommissioning ceremony in December 1997.

The tour concludes in a gift shop full of royal souvenirs.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

Amid the Britannia-themed mugs, pens, and aprons, the gift shop also sold replicas of royal jewelry.

There's even a photo-op at the end of the tour where you can practice your royal wave.

royal yacht britannia tea room menu

The tour was full of surprising facts about royal life and travels, and I couldn't believe that we actually got to see inside Queen Elizabeth's bedroom on the ship. It's definitely worth a visit.

The Russian Tea Room

Ratings and reviews

Food and ambience, location and contact.

Glad I went to say I did, but the service and food was just average. I love when the servers/bussing staff pull out the tables for you to sit, but they weren’t very attentive. The second course of the afternoon tea service was my preferred... one. The scones were nice and warm. The sandwiches from the first course were ehh. It was definitely pricey with two of us paying 110 (including tip) each for the afternoon tea with a glass of champagne. But the decor was eye catching which means it wasn’t a waste. Won’t go again but glad I did it once! More

One of the oldest Restaurant in the city close to central park and in the middle of new york. Food was amazing the tea service, decor, culture everything was excellent. Staff are every professional their eyes are always watching you incase if you need anything... they will be right there. They will also explain what you are eating and how russians like to drink tea or certain beverages. I had a tea special, cocktail chocotin, eggs florentine and russian toast. If you are starving go for tea special which is like $80 but its worth it as you will have many variations of sandwiches and pastries. More

I think you go for the royal afternoon tea because it is historical and the tea room is known for that since 1927. While the sandwiches were good, they were not a big wow. The desserts were either dry (cupcakes and scones) or the peppermint... macaroon was very chewy. It was as if they were day old or older. We were very disappointed to pay $115 per person and have food that wasn't up to standard. More

Our experience of Christmas lunch on December 25th at The Russian Tea Room wasn’t what we expected. The place, of course, is gorgeous, we rather be seated at the first floor, but there was a lot of people, so they gave us a table at... the upper level, I didn’t remember how beautiful that salon is, even better than the lower one, so we were very happy. Sadly the food and the service weren't as good as it should be. They had a four course Christmas Menu, the starter should be the Zakuski, the menu said: mixed smoked fish with vegetables, but instead of that, the waiter served us the appetizer. My daughter in law and I had the Red Borscht, is a soup with beef in it, it was good, but just that. My husband and my son had the Duck Blinchik, which is a kind of crepe filled with duck and foie gras, they liked it more than we liked the soup, but also nothing outstanding. After a long wait, the waiter served us THE STARTER!!! Can you believe it?, it’s the first time that happens to us something like that, and the dish had just smoked salmon, when it suppose to be a “mixed smoked fish” as the menu said. But that wasn’t it. When we were about to eat our salmon, the waiter came back with the main courses, there even wasn’t room in the table to put the dishes; then, without asking us, he started to take away our dishes of salmon, I didn't allow him to take my plate away, I wanted to eat my salmon, then he just drop my main dish next to the salmon in a little space. For main dish my daughter in law and I ordered the Roasted Veal Brest, it was really bad, hard to chew, like we were eaten some kind of rubber. My husband had the Chicken Kiev and my son the Boeuf à la Stroganoff, both dishes were good, but nothing special, just good. Well, the dessert were even worst, they served us the Apple Tarte Tatin and the Chocolate Mousse Cake literally FROZEN! they just took the dessert from the freezer and gave it us, that was unbearable. This was not our first time at this beautiful restaurant. We have been there many times, we even had lunch on December 25th twice, in 2006 and 2007, they didn’t had a Christmas Menu then, just the regular one, and we had a wonderful lunch, that’s the reason why we wanted to be there again in this special date, and share with our daughter in law our lovely memory of this place, unfortunately this time wasn’t like that. Maybe, if The Russian Tea Room can’t handle so many customers for Christmas lunch, they shouldn't offer it. More

Whilst visiting NY thought we would try something different so decided on the Russian Tea Room, for afternoon tea, very very expensive, we were a party of 8, 6 adults and 2 children, decided we would share some plates so opted for 2 $60USD plates... and 1 $90USD plate, with that we had to purchase extra coffee and drinks as only 3 cups were supplied with the afternoon tea. The food was miniscule and not great or memorable, as for the blinis 2 on the $60 played and 4 on the other, these blinis were as big as a bottle top and has I guarantee no more than 6 caviar eggs, all told our bill came to $375 USD incl taxes. BIG DISSAPPOINTMENT More

As a native NYC-er I had wanted to go here for a while, and it didn't disappoint. It is very uniquely decorated inside and super warm and cozy. It felt like you could stay a while without pressure. The service is great, they were constantly... refilling, checking on us, etc. The afternoon tea food was very good. The sandwiches were typical for afternoon tea, while the desserts were a little more modern (i.e. cupcakes). The tea was especially good as they serve it "Russian style" with sour cherries and lots of sugar in a clear glass. So we liked having good food and learning about another culture. The crowd was also understated; it looked like a mix of regulars and tourists but was not as touristy as expected given the location. Super fun for a special occasion or just to spend an afternoon. More

I just love this place, the most amazing ambience, the rich colours, the decadence the artwork, everything about it screams splendour. Luckily it was just around the corner form our hotel, but even if it wasn't I would have sought it out. I've wanted to... go here for as long as i can remember, i.e. since watching Tootsie all those years ago and my daughter said that the place have been 'revived' when Gossip Girls was shown. We didn't east, as we'd not made a reservation, but were vert politely and efficiently shown to our booth by wonderful staff. The tea menu is extensive and has some beautiful concoctions. With each serving you get a small bowl of sour cherries and shortbread type biscuit - really delicious. Once I'd stopped gawping like a star struck teenager I used the bathrooms on the lower floor - again beautiful as it the stair case and the little shop thats downstairs too. Its not cheap but certainly a must do when in NYC. More

The interior of the Russian Tea Room is beautiful, making it a perfect location for anyone wishing to get a great photo in one of the plush red booths. Unfortunately, I went expecting delicious food. This is not what my best friend and I found.... The sandwiches are mediocre. And I've had better baked goods from a grocery store (no offense to grocery store bakers!). The cakes and the frosting used on them tasted like Betty Crocker. Somehow even the tea tasted stale. I initially order the chai, and felt like I was drinking a cup of twigs. I asked for English Breakfast instead, which they brought over no questions asked. Service was ok. The delivery of food and drink was actually quite quick. But the wait staff seems exhausted, or perhaps bored by their routine/performance. If you're going because you've seen it on Instagram, just be aware that you'll be disappointed by the food. This is NOT worth $80/person. More

I'm from the UK and was very keen to sample this venue on a recent trip. I've been there once before, about 15 years ago and it was pretty much as beautiful as I remembered it. I'd made a reservation well in advance but that... didn't appear in their records. Despite this we were seated quickly and the service was first class. The food was great, especially my maple glazed duck entree, and was served efficiently but without ever feeling rushed. My partner and I had a wonderful evening here and I'd definitely recommend it. I've travelled fairly extensively and not found anywhere else quite like it. It;s not cheap but, really, you have to treat yourself sometimes! More

I have waited years to go to the Russian Tea Room. I have to say I was so disappointed. Four of us went for afternoon tea. We were taken to the first floor and initially we were expected to sit right by the lift. We... declined and the rude female host was obviously not happy. We were eventually seated within the room. It took ages to be served. We were given the wrong glass of champagne to begin with but this was quickly rectified. The afternoon tea was so underwhelming. The bread was beginning to curl up. The cakes were hard with little taste. We were given a tiny pot of marmalade? And a tiny pot of jam between four of us. We ordered more and these came 15 minutes after asking The waiter was disinterested in us. The bill was $420 !! We really wouldn’t have a problem paying that amount in such iconic surroundings but the food we were served really did not merit it. To sum up I think the afternoon tea service is way below standard served by waiters who really didn’t care. The experience like it’s food is stale and very very disappointing. More

Super iconic. Super expensive. But loved the experience. We were a party of 4 for Tea service. (1) gluten free, (1) afternoon tea and (2) royal afternoon tea. Each of us also had champagne. I’m not sure that the royal afternoon tea which gave 2... more blinis with Russian caviar was worth the extra $30. The tea sandwiches were all delicious. Our server was a doll and explained every sandwich to us when we were served. I don’t know that I’d be going back but I thoroughly enjoyed visiting this NYC landmark. More

We visited twice in the past few months and loved the caviar and vodka at the bar before dinner. Bartender, Jasmine was helpful in selecting appropriate cocktails and entrees. The dinner was delicious from the duck appetizer to the beef stroganoff and chicken cordon bleu.

I wish we had been warned about the ridiculous nature of lunch at this iconic NYC restaurant. We were looking forward to a memorable visit but left feeling fleeced with a bill that came to over $700 for mediocre tea sandwiches and scones and sweets,... most of which we left on the table. Our advice- stop in and get tea for the experience. More

This restaurant is devoid of any scruples. We had a 10:30pm reservation we booked on OpenTable. Before the dinner we were watching the Broadway show Hamilton in Rodgers Theatre. Hamilton was running late and so I had to decide to either leave the show early... or miss the reservation and pay a $50 per person cancelation fee. I decided to leave the show early and took an Uber to the restaurant. When we arrived the doors were locked and there was no one dining. The manger told me quite rudely through the door that they had canceled my reservation as they decided to close early. So we missed the last four songs of Hamilton and spent $40 on Uber to find out we had no reservation. It turns out the restaurant sent a cancellation email at 9:50pm only 40 minutes before reservation but I never saw the email which was sent way too late to be of any use. As a result we were hungry and stranded on 57th street and had to walk to Time’s Square to eat whatever we could find. Absolutely terrible display of lack of professionalism or ethics on the part of restaurant. If they can do this so openly with reservations imagine what unethical short cuts they are taking with the food behind closed kitchen doors. Don’t eat here. More

My cousin, her daughter, and I went for a nice dinner and Russian Tea Room did not disappoint! I had just about every caviar meal option possible and they had multiple options. Their vodka martini with caviar is superb, smooth and strong. I also tried... the caviar taster appetizer and it was well paired with the light creme fresh, each was different and i highly recommend it if you’ve either never tried caviar and want to dip your toes in, or if you’re a seasoned aficionado and don’t feel like having a full order. The lamb chops were perfectly cooked, I always order rare. It was well seasoned to accentuate the lamb itself without overpowering it. I’m not usually a dessert person but I had to try the Czar’s dessert. (Apologies, I forgot the name) and it was decadent yet still light and not too heavy. What’s not to love about 24k gold flake and caviar for dessert!? The wait staff was attentive, friendly, and we never left wanting for anything. I ordered a sidecar and it was a bit on the sweet side and he offered to bring me another one without question or me having to ask. I don’t like sending things back and feel guilty. It was a lovely change of pace not to feel that and the second one was sublime!! If you’re looking for a classic place in New York and feeling dressy for a special occasion, or even semi-formal night out, this is the perfect place. More
