Oceanco unveils esquel – a 105-meter expedition yacht

Eighty Percent of yacht activity takes place in 20% of the world’s oceans. Only 5% of what is beneath the world’s oceans has been seen, let alone experienced. Oceanco’s newest project, the 105-meter (345ft) diesel-electric driven Esquel has been conceived and designed to explore new territories.

Oceanco has created Esquel in collaboration with Timur Bozca Design, stylist Gina Brennan, Lateral Naval Architects and Engineering, and Pelorus—a leading experiential and yacht expedition travel company.

Sporting a displacement hull with a plumb bow, Esquel has been designed for extensive cruising to remote regions extending from the North Pole to the South Pole and everywhere in between.

“…At the same time, she offers all the aesthetics, amenities, interior and exterior finishes and attention to engineering detail seen onboard all Oceancos,” says Dirk de Jong Commercial Director at Oceanco.

A perfect blend between an expedition vessel and a sophisticated superyacht, Esquel offers the best of both worlds. She has a 230 square-meter tender garage for fast ribs, varietal tenders, watersports toys and diving gear. Her expansive uncluttered main deck, measuring 200 square meters has an aft deck glass superstructure with an enclosed pool and wellness area with panoramic views. This deck also offers plenty of space for accommodating locked containers of any sort, as well as additional tenders and off – road vehicles. For those interested in marine biology and ocean conservation, Esquel can become a platform for any number of scientific studies such as coral aquaculture —creating reef farms aboard to help restore our world’s dying reefs.

Esquel has a very flexible layout and can be adapted to house additional multi-purpose cabins, first response units, seminar areas, and research offices. As Esquel is not your ordinary rough explorer yacht—she is also imminently qualified to host a celebrity party at the Cannes Film Festival to—perhaps— raise awareness for Ocean Conservation…or to simply celebrate life.

Timur Bozca Design was selected to design Esquel. Bozca, who has design studios in London and Antalya, has won several design accolades in the last few years including Young Designer of the Year Award— an established international competition that Oceanco sponsors annually.

Esquel is equipped with a state-of –the-art sustainable compact diesel- electric architecture to allow uncompromised and autonomous operation throughout the world. With her strengthened hull and Polar classification, she has a cruising range of 7,000 nautical miles and can reach a top speed of 16.5 knots.

“In order to truly realize her expedition potential,” says James Roy, Managing Director of Lateral, Esquels’s naval architecture has been executed to provide maximum redundancy for the lowest possible maintenance.”

While the exterior of the expedition yacht is very masculine and modern, the interior is stylish and warm with comfortable furniture to create the feeling of a home away from home.

“The ambition for the look and feel of Esquel’s interior is geared towards depicting the life, influences and home of a young explorer, says London-based interior stylist Gina Brennan. Visible will be an eclectic mix of antiques and artifacts collected on his/her travels.”

Working with the team at Pelorus to fully understand the true nature of adventures in remote places such as Greenland and Patagonia, Esquel has been designed and engineered to carry and deploy two submarines, a land vehicle, and motorbikes, as well as accommodate a helicopter. She can also be equipped with laboratories for scientific experiments and exploration.

Oceanco reveals 105 metre extreme expedition yacht concept Esquel

Dutch yard Oceanco has revealed at 105 metre “high-tech go-anywhere” expedition yacht concept named Esquel.

The superyacht concept is named after a meteorite composed of metal and crystals that was found near a Patagonian town. It was unveiled at the Dubai Yacht Show.

The diesel-electric expedition motor yacht features exterior design by Timur Bozca and naval architecture by Lateral Naval Architects .

The design features a displacement hull with a plumb bow and is designed for extensive cruising in remote, harsh locations.

The diesel-electric propulsion package will allow for a top speed of 16.5 knots and a cruising range of 7000 nautical miles at 13 knots.

“Esquel is equipped with state-of-the-art compact diesel electric propulsion architecture; ultimate engineering to allow uncompromised and autonomous operation throughout the world,” a statement from Lateral said.

The yard described the yacht as the “perfect blend between an expedition vessel and sophisticated superyacht”, combining “pure luxury and comfort.”

Bozca revealed the concept had been inspired by “space rocket” designs.

"While Esquel will not be headed to outer space, she will be capable of journeying to remote corners of planet earth," he said.

“While her lines are stately and chic, she is clearly a no-nonsense, high-tech, go-anywhere vessel that would be equally comfortable in the Med or in the Arctic Circle,” he said.

Interior decor meanwhile has been handed to designer Gina Brennan, who previously worked on the interior designs for Soho House and a number of other private members' clubs. She described Esquel's decor as “cool and casual.”

“While the exterior of the expedition yacht is very masculine and modern, the interior is stylish and warm with comfortable furniture to create the feeling of a home away from home,” she said.

Key interior spaces include a main deck saloon equipped with a large dining table and groups of sofas and chairs gathered around a central fireplace.

A number of communal spaces will sit both inside and outside, one of which will be capable of transforming into a cinema or game room. The yacht will also include a spa and wellness area, including a gym, yoga room and hot tub, as well as enough garage space to accommodate Triton submersible.

The master suite will have “an expansive panoramic portal” for unspoilt views, as well as a lounge and fireplace. The guest staterooms meanwhile have been described as “quietly luxurious”.

The yacht will also include provision for the home-schooling of children, with plentiful accommodation for nannies and tutors, as well as labs, vehicles and tools for “shore exploration.”

“Esquel provides a mobile classroom for young and old alike,” the yard said.

Oceanco has also partnered with expedition specialist Pelorus on the project. The company has provided a number of expedition itineraries for Esquel and will offer expedition support for Esquel owners.

Massive 345-Foot Super Yacht Designed for Exploration and… Millennials?

Oceanco has just revealed their new yacht and it’s one of the most incredible ones we’ve ever seen, Esquel. This new yacht comes into the world with a length of 345 feet, almost the length of a football field (360 feet). Oceanco, a Dutch company, created the Esquel to be an expedition yacht, meant to explore that oceans. In a press release, they point out that 80 percent of yachty activity takes place in only 20 percent of the world’s oceans. The Esquel was designed for that 80 percent of ocean that don’t often see yachts.

There are a myriad of features of the Esquel that make it a capable vessel for exploration. Just look at the 2475.7 sq. ft. tender garage that can house vehicles, tenders and even some toys for the water. However, Oceanco does note that Esquel was designed and engineer to carry and deploy two submarines, a land vehicle and even motorbikes. Up above the garage is a 2152.78 sq. ft. main deck that Oceanco says could even be turned into a platform for scientific studies. There’s even a helipad.

Powering Esquel is a sustainable compact diesel-electric system. Oceanco says the Esquel has a cruising range of 7,000 nautical miles and can reach a max speed of 16.5 knots.

Esquel wasn’t designed just with exploration in mind. In fact, Oceanco had a very specific set of people they wanted to reach with this new yacht: millennials. Oceanco’s Group Marketing Manager, Paris Baloumis, told CNN that they worked with a young designer “in order to fully embrace the millennial mindset.”

“The ambition for the look and feel of Esquel’s interior is geared towards depicting the life, influences and home of a young explorer,” says London-based interior stylist Gina Brennan. “Visible will be an eclectic mix of antiques and artifacts collected on his/her travels.”

A price for Oceanco’s Esquel has not been introduced as of yet, but I’m sure it will cost a very heft sum.

The Dubai International Boat Show got off to a striking start on Tuesday as Oceanco unveiled its new project, the Esquel yacht.

The 345ft (105m) superyacht will be powered by a state-of-the-art compact diesel-electric system and be capable of traveling to the most remote places on the planet, including Antarctica, the North Pole and everywhere in between.

With a cruising range of 7,000 miles and a top speed of 16.5 knots, Esquel will become one of the most advanced expedition vessels in the world. Indeed, Esquel has been designed to carry a land vehicle, motorbikes, two submarines and a helicopter.

Netherlands based superyacht builder Oceanco unveiled plans for Esquel, a daringly styled superyacht, at the Dubai International Boat Show

Called Esquel , the yacht is a 105 metre displacement hull ‘expedition’ vessel designed for blue water cruising far away from normal boating territories.

The strengthened hull is Polar classified, meaning that even the north and south pole regions are within its scope.

Designed by Timur Bozca Design in conjunction with Lateral Naval Architects and Engineering, the styling is a mix of cutting edge superyacht and serious long range explorer, and it has the credentials to back up the look.

A 230 square meter garage can house fast RIBs, tenders, watersports toys and scuba gear. Back aft, a glass superstructure includes an indoor pool and wellness centre as well as offering more space for additional tenders or off road vehicles.

The vessel can also carry and deploy two submarines, a land vehicle, and motorbikes, as well as accommodate a helicopter.

Oh no, this vision is different. It is divination drawn from the cosmos. It is a journey without limits, without compromise, without boundaries. Bozca lives, works, and breathes on another level of existence, and he brings his creations and his imaginations to our reality.

The Turkish designer behind Bozca Design Ltd. works in all vehicle sectors creating next-level transportation for tomorrow, the day after that, and the day after that. Bozca has considerable experience in automotive and transport design with a specialty in digital modeling. His award-winning studio is one of the most exciting and rapidly growing portfolios of next-gen superyachts. Bozca Designs’ long-awaited concept, Esquel, has finally entered into earth’s realm.

We sat down with the designer to get some insight into his ethereal vision for the Esquel expedition yacht, where he draws inspiration from, and what we can look forward to in the coming years.

Jetset: First, let’s talk about Esquel, Oceanco’s project in collaboration with Bozca Design, stylist Gina Brennan, Lateral Naval Architects, and Pelorus.

Bozca: Esquel represents a new revolutionary type of multi-purpose superyacht. It is a state-of-the-art 105-meter diesel-electric motor yacht, both an expedition vessel and a sophisticated superyacht. As the exterior designer of Esquel, our inspiration was a space rocket. The exterior is one single cohesive form designed to embody simplicity and strength. While her lines are stately and chic, she is a no-nonsense high-tech go-anywhere vessel that can sail from the Caribbean to the Mediterranean, through the Arctic Circle, and back around again. We also conceived Esquel as a vessel for people who are passionate about marine life and highly keen on exploration studies. There is an option to create reef farms (onboard) to contribute to the preservation of natural sea flora. Esquel can also investigate the atmosphere, the ocean, and the seafloor. A test facility for clean marine energy can be on board for marine suppliers to test fuel cells or deploy other emerging technologies in real-world environments. The exterior design works seamlessly with the interior design. We wanted aa maximum number of exterior views from the interior, so we have incorporated large windows and skylights.

Jetset: What is your definition of a true designer?

Bozca: A true designer is the one with unlimited imagination; they create the non-existent. Designers nurture their vision with the experiences and, subsequently, create solutions through design by considering human factors, technology, and aesthetics — as we did in the collaboration for Esquel. It is very important for designers to have an active life to increase their senses: touching, seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and learning to maximize their vision. Thus, they can eliminate the limitation of their imagination and maximize their creativity.

Jetset: What is the story behind your slogan Limitless Design?

Bozca: I have an artistic family — my father is an architect, my mother is an artist-painter, and my sister is an interior designer. Thanks to this and my curiosity, I was surrounded by the utmost creative atmosphere. Then, while studying at university, I started to work on freelance projects such as wine bottles, furniture, advertising campaigns, and websites. I officially started my career as a car designer and then moved into helicopters and architectures; naturally, for me, yachts followed. I prefer to work in harmony to reflect all these experiences into a single form. That’s why I never limit my creativity in a single industry, and I believe this is making us limitless in our field.

Jetset: Tell us more about your inspiration series.

Bozca: The series observes inspirational animals, structures, and plants to apply their look, moves, and character into superyacht design. The focus on nature reflects my own passions, and the latest series promises to take this even further. As a self-proclaimed nature addict, I believe that some of the greatest sources of innovation can be found in the surrounding environment. Nature is the world’s most effective designer; millions of years of evolution have created some of the most sophisticated and efficient design solutions.

Jetset: What are your current and future projects?

Bozca: We are currently working on a wide variety of projects, from a blend of submarine and boat to a mega-ship conversion, a hydrogen yacht, and a 5-star ski hotel. We have a plan to build revolutionary yachts, floating villas, and eco-villages implemented by our own companies through the innovative features we have determined in the future.

The plans for the Esquel expedition were revealed at the Dubai International Boat Show in 2019. The ultraluxe superyacht has a strengthened hull, Polar classification, a top speed of 16.5 knots, and a cruising range of 7,000 nautical miles, making it a multifunctional resource for exploring the world. To further solidify its expedition potential, the boat can carry two submarines, a land vehicle, motorbikes, water toys, and a helicopter — all for land, sea, and air exploration.

Design features include an aft deck glass superstructure with an indoor pool/beach club area, a wellness designation, and panoramic views. Interiors are geared towards “depicting the life, influences, and home of a young explorer,” said interior stylist Gina Brennan. “It features an eclectic mix of antiques and artifacts collected on his/her travels.”

Confirming Oceanco’s ongoing commitment to the environment, ESQUEL’s diesel-electric propulsion architecture has been designed to deliver green power in all conditions. An advanced dynamic positioning system allows her to dock in marine-sensitive areas without damaging the ecosystem.

A multi-purpose yacht, ESQUEL’s flexible layout can easily be transformed into a platform for marine biology and ocean conservation. Equipped with laboratories, workshops and tools, she can also be used as a floating classroom whilst cruising far-off regions throughout the world.

Created to explore the globe in absolute comfort, ESQUEL was designed by Oceanco in collaboration with the Timur Bozca Studio, Lateral Naval Architects and expedition company Pelorus. Her chic contemporary country interior was styled by London-based interior stylist Gina Brennan.

Inspired by the sleek lines of modern spacecraft, ESQUEL’s distinctive exterior features clean lines and smooth flowing contours. A bold yacht with a masculine profile, her decks offer extensive outdoor space in addition to storage for her collection of off-road vehicles and motorbikes.

Designed to be a luxurious home-away-from-home in all climates, ESQUEL’s stylish modern interior has spacious living areas with panoramic ocean views. Key features include a cinema/games room plus a glass superstructure with a spa and wellness area including an enclosed pool.

Fully equipped for offshore adventure, she boasts an impressive 232m² garage to house her RIBS, tenders and a large collection of water toys. She can also carry a helicopter and 2 submarines for underwater exploration at the bottom of the ocean.

Oceanco ’s new 345-foot Esquel is an intrepid yacht designed to explore the world’s most remote oceans. The extreme expedition concept, unveiled at the Dubai International Boat Show this week, has a plumb bow, ice-class displacement hull, and the same caliber of superyacht interior that one would expect from Dutch shipyard Oceanco .

Esquel was a joint effort among Oceanco , Timur Bozca Design, stylist Gina Brennan, Lateral Naval Architects and Engineering, and Pelorus—an experiential and yacht-expedition travel company. “Our vision is to create solutions by considering human factors, technology, and aesthetics,” says Bozca, who has been named Young Designer of the Year.  “We design everything for a reason—not just for the sake of designing.”

As such, Esquel will be an authentic explorer vessel, with a 2,500-square-foot garage for fast RIBS, tenders, water-sports toys, and diving gear. The yacht also features an uncluttered 2,000-square-foot deck, with a glass superstructure aft that includes an enclosed pool and spa. The open deck can carry even more tenders, off-road vehicles, motorcycles, a helicopter, and, of course, two submarines. Oceanco says the space can also be turned into an onboard laboratory, with the possibility of creating a reef farm that can be used to heal the ocean’s corals.

“In order to truly realize her expedition potential,” says James Roy, managing director of Lateral, “Esquel’s naval architecture has been executed to provide maximum redundancy for the lowest possible maintenance.”

Gina Brennan created a stylized interior, with modern decor that also includes a mix of antiques and artifacts. “The ambition for the look and feel of Esquel’s interior is geared toward depicting the life, influences, and home of a young explorer,” says the London-based interior stylist.

The Oceanco concept is powered by a compact diesel-electric powerplant for operation throughout the world. The yacht will have a cruising range of 7,000 nautical miles, with a projected top speed of 16.5 knots.

Oceanco’s newest project, the105-meter (345ft) diesel-electric driven Esquel has been conceived and designed to explore new territories.  Oceanco has created Esquel in collaboration with Timur Bozca Design, stylist Gina Brennan, Lateral Naval Architects and Engineering, and Pelorus—a leading experiential and yacht expedition travel company.

Sporting a displacement hull with a plumb bow, Esquel has been designed for extensive cruising to remote regions extending from the North Pole to the South Pole and everywhere in between.

“…At the same time, she offers all the aesthetics, amenities, interior and exterior finishes and attention to engineering detail seen onboard all Oceancos,” says Dirk de Jong Commercial Director at Oceanco.

A perfect blend between an expedition vessel and a sophisticated superyacht, Esquel offers the best of both worlds. She has a 230 square-meter tender garage for fast ribs, varietal tenders, watersports toys and diving gear. Her expansive uncluttered main deck, measuring 200 square meters has an aft deck glass superstructure with an enclosed pool and wellness area with panoramic views. This deck also offers plenty of space for accommodating locked containers of any sort, as well as additional tenders and off – road vehicles. For those interested in marine biology and ocean conservation, Esquel can become a platform for any number of scientific studies such as coral aquaculture —creating reef farms aboard to help restore our world’s dying reefs.

Esquel has a very flexible layout and can be adapted to house additional multi-purpose cabins, first response units, seminar areas, and research offices. Oceanco Unveils 105-meter Expedition Yacht 'Esquel'

Oceanco has revealed its newest project, the 105-meter (345ft) diesel-electric driven Esquel, at the Dubai Boat Show. Created in collaboration with Timur Bozca Design, stylist Gina Brennan, Lateral Naval Architects and Engineering, and Pelorus, Esquel sports a displacement hull with a plumb bow, and was designed for extensive cruising to remote regions extending from the North Pole to the South Pole and everywhere in between.

A perfect blend between an expedition vessel and a sophisticated superyacht, Esquel offers the best of both worlds. She has a 230 square-meter tender garage for fast ribs, varietal tenders, watersports toys and diving gear. Her expansive uncluttered main deck, measuring 200 square meters has an aft deck glass superstructure with an enclosed pool and wellness area with panoramic views. This deck also offers plenty of space for accommodating locked containers of any sort, as well as additional tenders and off - road vehicles. For those interested in marine biology and ocean conservation, Esquel can become a platform for any number of scientific studies such as coral aquaculture - creating reef farms aboard to help restore our world's dying reefs.

Esquel has a very flexible layout and can be adapted to house additional multi-purpose cabins, first response units, seminar areas, and research offices. Esquel was designed by Timur Bozca Design. "Our vision is to create solutions by considering human factors, technology and aesthetics," Bozca explains. "We design everything for a reason-not just for the sake of designing. We believe that we must not only create for tomorrow, but also for the day after."

Esquel is equipped with a state-of-the-art sustainable compact diesel-electric architecture to allow uncompromised and autonomous operation throughout the world. With her strengthened hull and Polar classification, she has a cruising range of 7,000 nautical miles and can reach a top speed of 16.5 knots.

While the exterior of the expedition yacht is very masculine and modern, the interior is stylish and warm with comfortable furniture to create the feeling of a home away from home.

"The ambition for the look and feel of Esquel's interior is geared towards depicting the life, influences and home of a young explorer," said London-based interior stylist Gina Brennan. "Visible will be an eclectic mix of antiques and artifacts collected on his/her travels."

Take a look at this aerial rendering of the Esquel design and it showcases not only the beautiful lines all around but the immense space devoted to tender and toy storage on deck as well as a look at the dedicated helicopter pad. Besides being an extremely luxurious platform, the yacht is designed with a flexible layout to allow for scientist to come onboard to conduct marine conservation and research work. Even though Esquel is a glamour lady, she can be a full work boat when needed.

Looking at this profile rendering one can see the emphasis on sleek and fluid lines. A high sheltered bow should keep rough weather at bay with the bridge being located on the uppermost deck. Visibility with this type of design will be quite good as the forward superstructure 'falls away' from the bridge windows. What you perhaps cannot notice instantly from viewing Esquel on profile is that the bridge is wraparound external deck sort-of like a Portuguese bridge.

The stern may appear very unassuming but its curves and sloping structure hide some interesting features. Of course on the roof of the aft most part of the deck is the helipad. However, below it in that glassed-in area is actually a swimming pool which would be able to be utilized as it is indoors. Sun loungers flank around the pool area and the expansive glass provides ample views outwards for owner or guests to enjoy. There is a door that can fold-down towards the water in the transom too.

Next, we make our way to the interior to take a glimpse at what is on offer onboard this 100-meter superyacht. Gina Brennan says, "while the exterior of the expedition yacht is very masculine and modern, the interior is stylish and warm with comfortable furniture to create the feeling of a home away from home." This space definitely showcases that aspect of what Brennan was alluding to. The space depicted below is almost like a blend of a solarium and a winter garden.

Moving further into the cavernous interior, the theme focuses on a light palette but keeps busy with lateral splashes seen in the carpet and even in the design of the ceiling. The central theme to this space is perhaps the fireplace. It isn't the regular inset fireplace, it is actually one that is open and wood burning with a suspended flue to take the smoke and exhaust out. A large bar also stands as and imposing part of the room offering respite from too much relaxation.

This open concept room brings together the formal dining and casual relaxation aspects of a salon into one. One will agree the hanging light fixtures/chandeliers are quite elegant while large windows offer an alternate natural source of light during the daylight hours. A fireplace also takes up residence in this space to keep the immediate conversation area nice a toasty especially in those Arctic climes.

The final area is the master suite. A true oasis for the owner of the yacht, it not only offers comfortable accommodation for the principle onboard but privacy to the highest degree. Large curved glass fronts the suite and ample views outward is star quality. The room features a fireplace more of the contemporary kind which services a small lounge area. The multi-toned wood floors echo the wood ceiling offering continuity in the design concept while a large chandelier serves as a reminder as to the pedigree of the superyacht you are on.

Superyacht Esquel is for an owner or family who is obviously outgoing and wants to visit the most remote ends of the globe while still having the ability to remain connected to the outside world. The yacht offers the ability to be self sufficient for long periods and have great endurance to allow them to carry out the mission, whether scientific or relaxation specific.
