The coolest yachts in town for the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix

Every year, Monaco’s Grand Prix pulls in some of the fleet’s finest superyachts for a weekend of adrenaline-fuelled F1 action and A-lister events in the heart of the principality. Yachts moored stern to the circuit have a premium vantage point over the cars tearing around the track, while superyachts at anchor can enjoy all the Formula One buzz with the added benefit of privacy and seclusion. These are all the yachts to look out for at the 2023 event…

Phoenix 2 | 90m

Designed to fulfill a brief for an entertainment-led layout, Phoenix 2 is the ideal candidate for hosting guests during the Monaco Grand Prix. She has a good balance of cosy interior areas and open al fresco socialising spaces, including an enclosed winter garden that can host up to 120 guests. The 90-metre Lürssen is located in the Monaco anchorage close to the entrance of the port, and yacht-spotters can look out for her distinctive 5.4-metre phoenix figurehead on the bow.

Titiana | 73m

Charter machine Titania has secured a coveted trackside berth for the event, giving her guests the ultimate view over the cars roaring through Monaco. The main deck aft will be popular for guests looking for a shaded spot, while the sundeck has plenty of seating options, plus a 4.5-metre pool with a swim-up bar. Anyone seeking a respite from the Formula One will find plenty of interior spaces to enjoy, including an expansive main saloon and skylounge with drop-down cinema screen.

Lady Jorgia | 115m

Marking the largest yacht sale of 2023 so far, the iconic 115.1-metre Lürssen is making her first high-profile appearance as Lady Jorgia . The ex- Ahpo has an exterior by Nuvolari Lenard which is defined by sugar-scoop windows and large segments of black along the top of the superstructure. The design is said to be influenced by Ferraris, making her right at home in the Monaco anchorage.

Octopus | 126m

Octopus is fresh from a charter trip around Antarctica, and while her amenities list may make her better-suited to exploration, she is still a welcome addition to Port Hercules. The 126.2-metre yacht has an exterior by Espen Øino , with interiors by Monk Design and Jonathan Quinn Barnett .   Octopus is home to seven tenders, a glass-bottomed underwater observation lounge, smoothie bar and a basketball court.

Aalto | 80m

Formerly known as Amevi , the 80-metre Oceanco giant Aalto is berthed in the centre of Port Hercule to catch the Grand Prix. The yacht has a recognisable Nuvolari Lenard exterior and interiors by the late Alberto Pinto , with an interior volume of 2310GT that’s sure to provide plenty of spaces to watch the races from indoors. The yacht was rechristened in July 2022 and her name now means “wave” in Finnish.

Joy Me | 50m

Joy Me , usually berthed in Cap d’Ail, is making an appearance in Port Hercules for the Grand Prix. She’ll be one of the most recognisable yachts at the event, with her custom red and white exterior and unusual eye motif — said to be the eyes of the commissioning owner’s daughter. The Croatian-built yacht 49.9-metre has masses of exterior areas for guests to make the most of, as well as a fun interior with plenty of modern artwork.

Lammouche | 44m

Fresh from her groundbreaking trials of a new type of biofuel, 44-metre Lammouche is a 2010 Sanlorenzo with a charter-orientated configuration. Highlights include a spacious sundeck bordered by glass bulwarks for uncompromising views over Monte Carlo.

Resilience | 65.5m

Resilience has been an active cruiser since her launch in 2021, showing up on the scene for the New Year’s Eve festivities in St Barths and now arriving on the scene for the Monaco Grand Prix. The 65.5-metre ISA yacht has a sporty design from Enrico Gobbi - Team for Design , and the Italian studio has worked to create a modern, yet comfortable interior with accommodation for a total of 14 guests.

Instagram's favourite charter yacht Loon is also part of the line-up of yachts attending the Grand Prix, berthed inside the port within easy distance of all the action. The 54.5-metre Newcastle Marine is usually found cruising the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean and putting her mammoth treasure chest of toys to good use, but she's now based across the pond. Her big sister, the recently-purchased Icon yacht Loon , is just up the coast in Marseille.

Cloud 9 | 89m

Cloud 9 marked one of the largest yacht sales of 2022 and she made her first public appearance under her new name at last year's Monaco Grand Prix. When she was known as Infinity , the Oceanco build was notoriously private – now it seems she’s spending a little more time in the limelight. She is listed for charter with Burgess and comes complete with expansive lounging spaces, a decadent beauty saloon and a main deck pool that measures almost 18 metres squared.

Lionheart | 90m

In 2016, Lionheart was launched by Benetti as the Italian shipyard’s new flagship and is the owner's third Benetti to bear the same name. The 90-metre motor yacht is no stranger to Monte Carlo, spending most of her time cruising the French and Italian Riviera from her home base in Port Hercules. Lionheart is currently berthed at the end of Quai Rainier.

The Prices & Parties Aboard the Iconic Yachts of the F1 Monaco Grand Prix

monaco f1 yachts 2023

It’s a bona fide showcase of opulence. Here’s what you need to know about the yachts at the Monaco Grand Prix.

The most expensive weekend in sports is here. Formula 1 drivers will take their talents to the French Riviera on Sunday for the Monaco Grand Prix. Sure, fans mainly flock to watch their favorite driver make the podium, but this particular race is also an excuse to show off one’s latest luxury toys.

In this case, it’s the super-yachts that provide the most picturesque backdrop for the complicated track.

Attending a Formula 1 race is already a bucket-list experience. Watching it from the upper deck of a multi-million-dollar aquatic behemoth? Not many can say they’ll have that opportunity. Logistically speaking, finding yourself on one of those things isn’t guaranteed. You either have to be the owner of the ship, know said owner personally, or eclipse celebrity status that will automatically grant you an invitation if you are even in the general vicinity.

The illustrious Port Hercules marina is the hottest place to be over the next few days, so let’s take a look at what it takes to find yourself amongst Hollywood A-listers and their Very Important Friends.

Get on our list for weekly sports business, industry trends, interviews, and more.

Securing a spot on the water is no easy feat. Many opt to rent one for the weekend, which certainly comes at a hefty price tag. According to The Sports Rush , there are 760 berths up for grabs, and the least expensive will run you $3,800 a night. But it’s no guarantee that price will grant you an acceptable vantage point of the race. If that’s a priority, then expect to pay at least $110,000 a night. Keep in mind, that doesn’t even include food, drinks, entertainment, and anything else to make your super-yacht the most exclusive of the bunch. Also, yachts perched along the inner docks of Port Hercules have a length restriction of 30 meters.

For those looking to experience opulence without the possession of a boat, there’s an option for that. Enter the super-yacht hospitality package. As Yacht Charter Fleet describes, you can still be among the who’s-who in Monte Carlo, and even get a trackside vantage point of the race. Because they don’t come with the responsibility of managing a boat, demand for this option is incredibly high. In fact, many secure their spots for next year immediately following this year’s festivities. All the same benefits like access to premier dining and extravagant amusement are still included.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by AMBER LOUNGE (@amberloungeltd)

Billed as the most prestigious hospitality package in Monaco, Amber Lounge is an immersive experience that aims to please. Securing a pass here is like finding a golden ticket for a trip to the Willy Wonka factory — except you’re likely feasting on the rarest of chocolate available. At this VIP spot, expect to network with F1 drivers, celebrities in town for the Cannes Film Festival, and if you’re lucky, royalty. Some of the must-attend events include fashion shows, charity events, dinners prepared by Michelin-starred chefs, and more. Individual passes for the lounge run €600 ($642) a person and climb up to €35,000 ($37,459) for a semi-private VIP suite table for 10 with free-flowing beverages and champagne. As for the yacht’s hospitality, a weekend experience aboard a cabin includes race viewing tickets, gourmet meals and afternoon tea, an open bar, and a live DJ for a cool €5,100 ($5,458) a person.

Who Owns the Largest Yacht in Monaco?

With all this talk about luxury, it certainly begs the question: What is the largest vessel? That so happens to be The Octopus , which was constructed for the late Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft and former owner of the Portland Trail Blazers, Seattle Seahawks, and Seattle Sounders. Measuring 414 feet long, The Octopus is worth $285 million and comfortably sleeps 12 guests. It has two helipads, a basketball court, a movie theater, and its own pool. The price to rent the yacht for a week is almost as extravagant as the amenities it offers, coming in at an overwhelming $2.2 million.

Here are more details about Octopus: The garage alone is 118 feet and holds 7 tenders, several jet skis, and a 10-person submarine. The boat was previously owned by the late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, costing $20M to operate each year. In January, seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton and Olympic medalist Shaun White famously rented The Octopus to cruise around Antarctica, taking the continent’s breathtaking views, stunning wildlife, and more. Hamilton is set to race in Monaco, which he has won three times.

Monte Carlo, Monaco

25 - 28 May 2023

By Katie Scott

With the sporting event dates released for 25-28 May 2023, Monaco is preparing to open its doors on a celebratory 80th edition as the world-famous Monaco Grand Prix returns to Monte Carlo for fast and furious fun.

Renowned for its tight bends and tricky obstacles, the track for the Monaco Grand Prix will once again push drivers to their limits as they speed past monuments like The Grand Hotel and of course the picturesque Port Hercule.

As one of the biggest social events of the year, incorporating the Monaco Grand Prix into a luxury yacht charter experience is a must for both private rental and corporate charters .

Mesmerising trackside berths

Overview of Port Hercule adjacent to Monte Carlo F1 track. Many motor yachts berthed.

Being one of the only tracks on the Formula 1 circuit to feature trackside berths, alongside the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix , securing a mooring right alongside the action is the best way to fully immerse yourself and your charter guests in the electrified atmosphere.

These spaces are few, so booking your charter vacation as early as possible through a yacht charter broker is highly recommended.

Alternatively, secure your spot at the heart of the action with a VIP hospitality package deal , which offer the best seats in the house, as well as a host of other benefits. These often include premium food and drink, luxury tender transfers, meet and greet with former F1 drivers and glamorous after-party access.

Incredible social agenda

Two Formula 1 drivers geared up and conversing on track.

Such a magnanimous event wouldn't be complete without an outstanding social calendar, and that is exactly what the Monaco based event delivers.

Presenting multiple opportunities to dance till dawn with globally known DJs and iconic superyacht parties, there's ample chance to mingle with VIPs and some of the Formula 1 racers themselves as the winner of the race is presented with the trophy at the podium.

Along with the free-flowing champagne and enticing dining options, Monte Carlo hosts some of the most memorable concerts during the Grand Prix season, making a lengthy stay in Monaco a must for being seen.

Demand for trackside berths peaks early so if you're interested in booking an event yacht charter with these berths in mind, get in touch with your preferred yacht charter broker today for more details.

Experience the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix From a Superyacht

  • October 31, 2023

As the Formula 1 season kicks off each year, there’s a particular round racing enthusiasts eagerly wait for. That is the Formula 1 Grand Prix De Monaco, arguably one of the most exclusive events of the year. An event of this stature, in a location this lavish, attracts spectators from all corners of the globe, each keen to catch a glimpse of the rumbling supercars as they race through the streets of Monte Carlo.

For those who want to be part of the action, experiencing the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix from a superyacht is incomparable. You have the French Riviera as your backdrop, a bustling atmosphere of excitement and prestige all around you, and a VIP network of well-heeled holiday-makers everywhere you turn. The best part of this glitzy event is being out in the open on your vessel’s top deck, as supercars whiz past you faster than you can say “Côte d’Azur”.

Superyacht At Monaco Grand Prix

Attending the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix

In 2023, The Yacht Life Co-Founder and Charter Experience Broker Joey Dunleavy, booked a superyacht for her Australian client AGENXY who was hosting this glamorous event. It was an exceptional weekend full of entertainment, brand engagements, premium beverages and the finest cuisine.

Docked in Port Hercules, Joey and a number of high profile guests spent their time on board this magnificent 48 metre superyacht. The vessel provided a detailed experiential itinerary and hosted a number of sponsored activations curated by AGENXY in the lead up to the prestigious automobile race.

Yacht Charter Broker, Joey Dunleavy, At The Monaco Grand Prix

Finnish F1 driver, Valterri Bottas, made an appearance, as did Sky Sports presenters Simon Lazenby and David Croft. German singer Au/Ra provided live entertainment and delectable refreshments were always in hand. The main beverage bar on board was activated with Moët Chandon, U’luvka Vodka, Celosa Rosé Tequila, and Valtteri Bottas’ brand, OATH Gin.

A high-stakes poker tournament catered by the famed Knightsbridge Game took place on the sundeck. Live music set the ambience for the occasion, and OATH Gin was flowing.

Valterri Bottas was amongst the festivities throughout the event, offering an exclusive interview and making an OATH gin cocktail just the way he likes it. It was a highlight for all of the guests on board.

Those with an acquired taste for Irish Whiskey were delighted when Craft Irish Whiskey held an educational tasting. A brief history of the Monaco Grand Prix

The 2023 Monaco Grand Prix is set to take place between the 25th and 28th of May. First staged in 1929, Monaco is a highlight in the calendar thanks to its twisting, turning track, which meanders through the beautiful streets of Monaco and overlooks the glistening azure waters. Monaco is famed for its tight corners and bends, and it is the shortest track on the current FI circuit. Red Bull’s Sergio Perez won the 2022 race. Who will make it onto the podium in 2023? Will it be defending champion Max Verstappen, his archrival Lewis Hamilton, or will a young pretender take the crown?

Monaco’s Grand Prix is known for its complexity and intricacy, but it’s also an event that gets people talking every year. This is one of the calendar’s most spectacular and thrilling sporting events, synonymous with opulence and glamor. Monaco is the place for those who love sport, shopping, fine dining and soaking up the sunshine on superyachts.

The Monaco Yacht Show 2023: A Round Up of the Top Stories

By Frances Flannagan

After a truly spectacular edition of the Monaco Yacht Show this year, we take a look at some of the top news stories from the event. From new launches, to concept designs, this year’s show featured a host of exciting industry updates.

The Monaco Yacht Show 2023 undoubtedly saw a range of exciting updates for the industry; we take a look at six of the top news that was unveiled during the show. We delve into the announcement of the launch of the first Amels 80, the unveiling of two concept designs from Feadship and Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design, the reveal of Benetti's 85m project and Rossinavi’s 66m diesel electric ALCHEMY, as well as taking a look at Lürssen's 97m CARINTHIA VII following her 10-month refit.

The First Amels 80 Launched

On schedule to be delivered in 2025, the first Amels 80’s new hull and superstructure were spotted outside of her build shed. Described by Sean Bianchi, Partner and Head of New Construction at Burgess, and Naval Architect, as a yacht which will ‘stand out amongst her peers and set the benchmark for future yachts’, her launch was highly exciting news announced by the shipyard on the first morning of the yacht show.

Designed by Espen Øino, Amels 80 features a holistic and modern exterior design, in keeping with the Amels DNA. She also features sustainable materials and innovative hybrid technology, a key factor of the next-generation Amels' design.

‘The Amels 80 is a design that will not age. Her modern strong lines will look as good in 10 years as the day she is delivered. She is a big ship, full of features, with an impressive interior volume. She is everything and more that you would expect from an 80-metre yacht. There is a sense of scale, and nothing is wasted,’ commented Espen Øino.

Her interiors are custom-built, penned by Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design, with a neutral and natural palette, allowing for the owner to add their own personal style. She can accommodate up to 14 guests, who can enjoy a 200 square metres sun deck, a waterside beach club which opens on three sides and a wellness area and spa, to name a few of the fantastic amenities on board.

Benetti’s Full-Custom Espen Øino-Designed 85m Project Announced

PROJECT LIFE, Benetti’s new full-custom 85m, is a welcome addition to the Italian yard’s megayacht fleet. Her exteriors have also been penned by Espen Øino, who has injected Benetti’s distinctive characteristics into PROJECT LIFE’s design: the capacity to invent new lifestyles, offering varied interpretations of this concept across the decks. All spaces onboard are designed with sociability in mind, for instance, the large revolving lounge that changes its focal point depending on the time of day.

Her interiors have been designed by Francois Zuretti, who has chosen a beautiful balance between the colours and the surrounding environment, with an expanded opening that allows natural light to enhance the spaces.

PROJECT LIFE is built with all the available technologies to help reduce consumption, including diesel-electric propulsion and integrated hybrid solar panels that collect solar and thermal energy to power appliances onboard.

A Look Inside Lürssen’s 97m CARINTHIA VII Following Refit

Following a 10-month refit by Lürssen at its Hamburg facilities, the results of CARINTHIA VII’s extensive refit were revealed at this year's Monaco Yacht Show, where she was presented to the charter market for the first time, represented by Fraser.

She was designed by Tim Heywood, regarded by many as one of the world’s first true mega yachts. Kept largely hidden from industry over the last 21 years, with her interior rarely seen, her introduction to the charter market has been eagerly awaited, as has the results of her refit.

Her new work includes redesigned exterior decks, new lounge and living areas and a new 12m/39’ pool and 90sqm air-conditioned gymnasium. Her interiors are sophisticated and elegant, with beautiful wooden flooring pervading the design and neutral beige and browns contrasted with cool-tone hues of blues and stunningly clean white stylings. She is a true masterpiece and an unmissable offering to the charter market.

Embracing Sustainability: Feadship Debuts Project DUNES

DUNE takes a significant step towards Feadship’s goal of Net-Zero superyachts, combining features that reduce energy demand with technology that eliminates emissions and increases efficiency. Each individual element of the design assists in reducing environmental impact, for instance, shading windows to reduce cooling requirements, however, when implemented together, they slash a superyacht’s environmental impact dramatically.

Inspired by the aesthetics of sand dunes, this vessel reflects the onboard lifestyle that today’s owners desire, with flexible, multi-purpose spaces, endless views, and a combination of sociable open-plan areas with cosy, intimate spaces. She has an asymmetrical superstructure with almost no straight lines, meaning that spaces drift into one another, furthering the notion of flow throughout the yacht, and the heavy use of glass seamlessly blends the interiors with the surroundings.

Her design, along with all Feadship concepts, is a true joint effort between Feadship, Studio de Voogt and the yard's Knowledge and Innovation department. With a wealth of expertise and experience across all collaborators, the shipyard’s concept designs are able to be of the highest possible quality.

AWARE, The Essence of Luxury, Presented by Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design

Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design presented the 79.9m yacht concept AWARE at the Monaco Yacht Show, a ready-to-build, fully operational concept with a 1600 mm scale model. Her design combines proven technology with innovation and the use of the most precious and durable materials. At the forefront of this design is space optimisation, with an abundance of space on board, vast exterior decks and an unparalleled inside-outside connection,

AWARE has been described as the ‘Essence of Luxury’: a logical step in yacht design in which all space is optimised to give guests on board the best possible experience. Sander Sinot, Designer at the firm commented:

‘For the design of AWARE the focus is on maximising the space on board within the yacht’s limited structure. We designed open plan layouts for the beach club, lounges and exterior decks that offer inherent flexibility and ample space while reducing the number of decks.’

With exceptional features to optimise the outside areas, including a beach club with a three-metre high ceiling, the interiors have similarly been designed to provide ultimate functionality and a spectacular inside-out experience. She is a tri-deck design with an open plan pavilion on the bridge deck, allowing for unrestricted views of the ocean on all sides.

Rossinavi’s 66m Diesel Electric Motor Yacht ALCHEMY

Unveiled at Port Hercules was Rossinavi’s 66m M/Y ALCHEMY, a fully custom design by Vitruvius Yachts with interior and exterior styling by Enrico Gobbi. She features diesel-electric propulsion, propelled by rods to reduce the loss of energy between the engines and navigation speed.

ALCHEMY is an elegant tri-deck design with a focus on the outdoor areas and wellness aspects of the yacht. With a spacious central corridor, the forward owner’s cabin offers a clear view of the sea, creating a sense of openness in the design alongside a strong connection to the surroundings. A special emphasis has been placed on ensuring comfort on board, in particular the minimisation of vibrations, meaning that every technical and material choice has been considered to reduce noise and vibrations.

The atmosphere throughout this vessel is calm and elegant, with every single piece of furniture being bespoke. Enrico Gobbi commented:

‘Spa mood was the keyword for the interior design and exterior decor of this yacht; natural materials, soft colours, and essential shapes for the interiors. Soft indirect lights to 'wet' the simplicity of the forms, where the detail and construction quality had to emerge and characterize the space: 'detail makes the differences' this is the motto that we have followed more than ever in this project together with the owners.’

- - -

The 32nd edition of the Monaco Yacht Show was as spectacular as ever, we can only begin to imagine the wonders that the 2024 event will hold.

"The Amels 80 is a design that will not age. Her modern strong lines will look as good in 10 years as the day she is delivered." Espen Øino, Designer and Naval Architect
