H2 Yacht Design’s Project Atlas Superyacht

The majestic motor sailor yacht Project Atlas, which you can admire in these pictures, has been designed by a fabulous duo – Laurent Giles Superyacht Architects and the innovative H2 Yacht Design from London. Measuring 110 meters from bow to stern, the vessel was designed to be used by combining sailing experience with diesel motor power, for fuel consumption efficiency and to enhance the pleasure of sailing.

Boasting with a 5 deck construction, the shape of the yacht is actually complimented by the presence of the sails, an epitome of elegance in the world of ocean cruising. The exterior is practically simple, yet extremely eye-catching thanks to its soft flowing curves, sleek lines and crisp edges.

The main aft deck features a staggering 7 meter infinity pool with water wall, which leads to the below-located swim platform, circular bar, large sunbed areas and two Jacuzzis, alongside a lavish exterior deck space destined for entertainment and lounge.

As for the interior, it provides a lavish sundeck skylight which allows the natural light coming from the sun to illuminate the interior, almost invisible lifeboats, full beam tender garage, two storage bins which house jet skis and ribs on the foredeck and private balconies.

The main result of the design, apart from its compelling elegance and beauty, is that the vessel boasts with a fuel economy of between 40 and 60 %. Able to accommodate a total of 20 guests, Project Atlas can cruise at speeds of 16 knots with virtually no effort while using both the propelling systems.

Oceanco reveals two new H2-designed Simply Custom projects

Oceanco has released the first renderings of two new 80-metre design proposals penned by H2 Yacht Design . Named Portofino (white) and Storm (black), the yachts make up two of the proposals from Oceanco's Simply Custom range, which aims to offer a new type of customisable superyacht built on a proven platform.  

According to the shipyard, Portofino has been "named to reflect the same classic, elegant style epitomised by this enigmatic Italian fishing village". It has described the yacht as timeless while marrying modern elements in the details such as the "dramatically shaped" transom.  

Other key design elements include a sculpted superstructure, tapered decks and long lines of glazing fringed by glass bulwarks. 

The other yacht is Storm, which is described as "an aggressive and sleek design" that borrows inspiration from a timeless Bentley coupe and gives a "sense of speed and elegance from a bygone era". A waterfront beach cub opens out on two sides with sweeping arches port and starboard that encourage a connection to the water. 

Lateral Naval Architects is responsible for the engineering and naval architecture of the line, and 17 designers were invited to lend their hands to the yacht's exteriors. Interiors meanwhile, can be heavily customised by a client, but Oceanco has shortlisted several designers who it thinks would be best suited to the projects.

H2 Yacht Design – Operating Since 1994

H2 Yacht Design was founded in 1994 in London by director Jonny Horsfield. The superyacht designer specializes in interior design and exterior styling of superyachts.

Between director Jonny Horsfield and the senior consultants, there are 30 years of experience in the yachting industry, where they have worked on a combined 100 yacht projects. 

H2 YACHT DESIGN – A HISTORY

Jonny Horsfield graduated from Coventry University after studying car design. He quickly discovered a passion for superyacht styling after he worked with designer Martin Francis.

He continued in the design field when he worked with renowned superyacht designer Donald Starkey.

For the first 11 years of business, H2 Yacht Design worked on refitting superyachts. The company is considered a refit expert in the superyachts industry.

They expanded into styling when the company won a contract for the interior design of the 54m Proteskan superyacht, TALISMAN C, in 2005.

The superyacht would be H2’s first new build. That groundbreaking project leads to H2 continuing to execute exterior styling and interior designs on new yachts.

The company has earned a reputation for excellent work, making them notable designers in the super yachting sector.

Their focus is on delivering bespoke services to clients. H2 pride’s itself in offering a unique service that fits each project.

Thanks to their involvement in a wide array of projects, the company’s portfolio, and skills are varied, allowing them to design any style that suits the client’s personal needs.

H2 doesn’t have a house style that is replicated for each client. Instead, they take on a wonderfully diverse set of projects because they can work with any style the client may prefer.

H2 contributed to the exterior styling and interior design for the 2014 Bloom + Voss GRACEFUL . The 82m yacht is one of the largest that H2 has designed, with another 120m project in Europe.

H2 can also claim credit for the interior and exterior work done for the Proteskan superyachts VICKY, a 72.6m vessel, and the 73.8m Nobiskrug ODESSA II interior design.

As the old adage goes 'it doesn't matter what you look like on the outside, it's what's on the inside that counts. Whilst at Superyachts.com we of course value exterior design, 2021 has seen a series of new creations kiss the waters packed out with magnificent interiors. Here are some of our favourites...

Cloud 9 The Italian city of Milan has long been with synonymous with good taste. Host to labels such as Versace, Armani and Dolce & Gabbana, the city is packed out with beautifully dressed individuals who spend their days roaming around the intricate architecture of the Piazza del Duomo and admiring the beauty of the displays in the high-end stores that make up the stunning Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. It therefore comes as no surprise that Milan was the birthplace and childhood inspiration of Francesco Paszkowski who designed the interiors for this 61.5m enchantress. Her matt grey colour scheme makes for a deeply relaxing and classy feel that is brought to life by the light of the outdoor living areas. 

Moskito Dubbed the 'father of modern yacht design', Jon Bannenberg's involvement on any project is always likely to elicit excitement from yacht enthusiasts. Bannenberg & Rowell Design's involvement on this project of course did not fail to deliver as her contemporary interior creates a wonderful ambience. Her white Thassos marble flooring in the owner’s suite bathroom is a particular highlight, making the Dutch vessel a perfect getaway yacht for interior connoisseurs.

Triumph Just like Cloud 9, Triumph is another Italian creation, this time out of Benetti's shipyard who were also responsible for her magnificent interior. Owned by Sarah and Chris Dawson, executive chairman of the British retail chain The Range, Triumph includes not only includes a wild range of features for those who want to unwind and relax but so too a style that sets her apart from the rest thanks to some additional help from Green & Mingarelli Design. Plant life can be found across in most rooms bringing a sense of connection back to the land even when cruising across the high seas.

Victorious British based design studio, H2 Yacht Design designed the interior of Victorious who features accommodation for 24 guests in 12 cabins, including a private deck for the owner’s personal usage. Packed with amenities for family cruising, her interior is mindful of a child friendly design. This however, did not get in the way of luxury and risks were taking including the installation of glorious walnut flooring balancing together both functionality and aestethic. This delicate balance between style and function was perfected by the studio and after a 14 year long wait for her delivery, most would look at her and agree that the patience was worthwhile.

Take a look at what architects pitch for a redesigned Cape Coral Yacht Club

New details, photos, and a video have emerged on the proposed changes to the Cape Coral Yacht Club Community Park, changing it from an Old Florida feel to a 'Key West' vibe.

The city plans to present these updates on the Yacht Club at this week's committee of the whole meeting at 9 a.m. Wednesday in council chambers at 1015 Cultural Park Blvd.

Here's what we know.

Yacht Club changes explained

Cape Coral's  Yacht Club Community Park , which includes a yacht basin, tennis courts, a swimming pool, a ballroom, and a beach, has served as a popular attraction and staple for the city since the 1960s, built and open just a few years after  the city's inception in 1957 by brothers Jack and Leonard Rosen .

In 2018, voters approved a $60 million expansion of the city's parks and amenities through the Parks and Recreation General Obligation (GO) Bond. Part of that was intended for the Yacht Club.

The Cape Coral City Council originally planned to close and begin work on renovations for the park in  2021 .

But then Hurricane Ian struck the city on Sept. 28, 2022, delaying the project with the council eventually opting to revamp the whole area, with the city pointing toward the  high cost of repairs and being over FEMA's 50% rule  as justification for moving forward with new buildings and amenities.

Longtime residents and former city officials opposed the plans - however, they could not sway the council to change its mind on the new plans.

What's featured in the new Yacht Club?

The  current plans  include a new two-story community center to replace the ballroom, removing the tennis courts, rearranging the area to accommodate a four-story parking garage, a new restaurant, and a new 14,500-square-foot resort-style pool.

Current parking at the park; including for boats, vehicles, and boat trailers, amounts to 551 total spaces.

The proposed changes would bring a four-story garage with approximately 685 parking spaces, 15 surface spaces at the main building, 46 boat trailers, and 158 boat slip spaces - totaling 904 parking spaces.

The new two-story community center would have 47,000 square feet and include a new ballroom, concession, history room, exterior balcony, storage and meeting space, and a multi-purpose hall.

Previous discussions estimate the cost of the project to be as much  as $100 million .

Demolition has begun

Cape Coral has already begun the work toward these changes as demolition started this month.

The city will demolish the main buildings and attached amenities of the Yacht Club, including the ballroom building, the Tony Rotino Center, tennis courts, pool, and harbormaster.

Johnson-Laux Construction, a full-service construction management firm that operates out of Winter Garden, has been contracted to demolish and deconstruct the Yacht Club for $987,716.04.

The firm is also tasked with  preserving a portion  of the old ballroom building, which includes interior ceiling beams, stonework, a fountain, and interior doors.

Construction will  not affect the beach area.

What's next? When's the completion?

A public meeting to review and showcase current Yacht Club designs will be held on May 7.

The city is still in the design phase and has no estimated timeframe for completion.
