This relatively untouched part of the Adriatic Sea offers natural seclusion and idyllic sailing conditions year-round. Whether you plan to visit the nature preserves, or would like to take a tour of Lovers Island, you are guaranteed to make beautiful memories during your Biograd sailing charter. 12 Knots offers a variety of charter options and packages to suit every individual’s needs and expectations.

Sailing Conditions in Biograd

Biograd is a sailor’s paradise for many reasons. The Adriatic Sea experiences year-round sunshine and is influenced by strong trade winds that make island-hopping very easy. Biograd and surrounding cities have also invested greatly in their marina and mooring sites, offering you the best accommodations for your trip.

While the northeasterly trade winds are strong and consistent, the summer Mistral winds are more varied and can offer a challenge to experienced sailors. Typically wind forces range from Force 3 to Force 5, however, during the summer, this can change day to day. Be vigilant when sailing in Biograd, and check your wind and weather forecast before departure each day.

Best Time to Vacation in Biograd

May through September is the official sailing season in Biograd. The late spring, summer, and early fall provide the best temperatures and strong winds optimal for sailing around Croatia. However, this is also when the tourist season is at its peak. If you’d like to skip the tourist crowd altogether, the winter months still offer favorable temperatures and strong winds.

Sailing Difficulty Level

The spring and summer seasons offer perfect conditions for beginner sailors in Biograd. The consistent winds close to shore, as well as the calm seas, make Biograd an excellent place to learn and bolster your skillset. The winter months are more challenging due to the stronger winds, but can be just as enjoyable for experienced sailors or those booking a crewed yacht charter. At 12 Knots, we strive to create a memorable and rich experience for you no matter when you book your charter. Contact us today to learn more or to book your Biograd boat rental.

12 Knots offers a variety of sailing charters in Biograd, based in both the Marina Kornati and Marina Šangulin, among others. We offer over 815 crewed and bareboat charters based on your experience level and can accommodate the travel requests of almost all sailors.

History of Biograd

Biograd is a small Croatian royal city that was mentioned for the first time in the Xth century, and in the XI. it becomes the headquarters of kings and bishops. From the year 1409 to 1797 Biograd was under the power of Venetia. End of the XVII. In the 19th century, the city was burned and destroyed, which is why the city is losing its importance. The tourist development of the city begins in the period between the two world wars. The first hotel was built in 1935. In the 90s, the city experienced another great destruction, during the war in Croatia. The city won the Silver Medal and the 2007 Silver Flower Prestige Award for Garden and City Decorations.

Biograd Heritage site

Biograd is a relatively small town with about 5,900 inhabitants, but with a rich history and heritage. The most important churches are the church of Sank Anastassia (1761), church of Saint Ante (13th century). The only basilica that has "survived" the Venetian destruction is St. Ivan.

6-day Sailing Itinerary from Biograd

Being located pretty much slap bang in the middle of the archipelago means that there’s plenty of choice when sailing from Biograd – and one of the big choices needs to be made at the start of the week as to whether you’re heading south to Skradin , north to Zadar , or as far West as you can get. This itinerary heads south, but there are a few places we would’ve loved to take you to in other directions – sadly we simply don’t have the number of days we’d need to get around it all!

The route takes in the natural beauty of the waterfalls at Skradin, sailing through the unique landscape of the Kornati National Park , and the super cute towns of Jezera , Kaprije and Sali . We stop each night in a marina, but you can always anchor down in a nearby bay if you don’t fancy going ashore, or if you want to sail further or shorter than our route.

Biograd 6 day sailing itinerary

This itinerary is 117 nautical miles, which should mean travelling at a leisurely 20 nM a day or so, which, with a yacht going on average 5-6 knots, should only be 4-5 hours of sailing per day. There’s obviously more hours of daylight than that, which you can then choose to spend exploring your start or end point in greater depth (or doing the shopping) or stopping en-route when you spot somewhere you’d like to go to eat or for a swim.

If you are following this route, it will be cheaper to buy a pass for the Kornati National park at the office at Marina Kornati now than if you have to pay a ticket inspector out at sea (they do check, and add about 50% to the price). They tend to have inspection boats out in the early evenings, so the unwritten rule is that you only need to pay for the days when you will be in the park after 4pm – so you should only need a one day pass for this itinerary.

Jezera

The first days route is 25 nautical miles and should see you sailing in practically every direction for at least a short spell. The prevailing wind should be whooshing past you from the sea towards the land, so you should be reaching up and down the coastline.

Our journey starts with a quick detour north of Biograd to sail once around Lovers Island for good luck – this is a practically perfect heart-shaped island which was only discovered after the invention of Google Earth. Nowadays, it is a tourist destination and hundreds of happy couples get engaged there every year! Legend has it that if you throw a euro overboard near the island, you’ll be lucky in love soon…

After checking out the island and sorting out your love lives, we’re going back the way we came, beyond Biograd and heading South-east along the coast-line to the island of Murter, and, further round, the village of Jezera.

There’s a marina in Jezera a short walk from the old town, or you can try and snag a spot near the fishermen in the harbour and literally hop off your boat into the old town, which is built around the harbour and boasts a decent range of restaurants and bars. There’s also a decent-sized supermarket (since we’re still technically attached to the mainland by road) if you’ve forgotten to get anything.

Skradin

Skradin is a small village with a few shops and bars and a relaxed atmosphere. There’s plenty of tourists because this is near the famous national park of Krka, home of the Krka falls – a series of seven waterfalls which cascade down the local hillside both mesmerizingly and magnificently. Google them to see what they’re all about, but they are worth a look.

It’s possible to walk or cycle to the waterfalls, but it’s easiest to get there by taxi-boat – check out the signs and timetables next to the pontoon at the centre of the village. There’s a small entry fee for the national park, and the walk around all the waterfalls will take you about an hour and a half if you don’t dawdle. But then, you are on holiday, and there’s a café and a few ice-cream sellers...

If you arrive in time, head there in the afternoon, but if not, don’t panic – you can always go tomorrow morning.

Kaprije

The village has a population of 143, the majority of whom are involved in growing vines and olives on the island. That said, there’s still five or six places to head to for a bite to eat or a drink, plus a couple of shops, an ATM and a church. There’s even a few holiday apartments here which are advertised for people who simply want to get away from it all.

It’s a tranquil village to spend the night, and the local wine is worth a try!

Piskera

Sailing-wise, you’re heading in a westerly direction, beating into the prevailing wind for starters, then reaching up towards Piskera. Enjoy weaving through the islands – some have beaches, bays or even bars, where you can stop to draw your breath and to enjoy the scenery. Incidentally, if you're heading to stay overnight in Piskera, then the Kornati park fees are included in the mooring fees there, so you don't need to buy a ticket for the National Park (or if you do, you'll end up paying it twice).

This is also dolphin and sea-turtle territory, so keep an eye out (and a camera handy) for those, just in case!

Sali

Sailing North-west should mean that you’re reaching against the prevailing wind, and tacking to avoid the islands or to find places to shelter, swim or play. You are allowed to hike on the islands, and you’ll get good views at the top of each island, but the heat normally makes hiking pretty unbearable.

At the top of Kornati island (the biggest in the archipalego), we’re heading east to follow the eastern coast of the island of Dugi Otok, where we’re spending the night back in the (relative) civilisation of the fishing village of Sali.

Sali has been a fishing village for over 1,000 years, and it is, naturally, all built up around the harbour. They have a supermarket here, as well as waterfront bars and restaurants, and even a specialist ice-cream shop. The locals swear that their olives are the best that you’ll find in the Mediterranean, on account of them growing on olive trees that are over 700 (yes, seven hundred) years old.

Biograd

Despite being on roughly the same latitude as Sali, Biograd is in a south-easterly direction from here, as we have to sweep under the island of Pasman, and then back up. That should mean it’s a broad reach across the prevailing wind across the channel to Pasman (and stopping at the beach Vrgada if you have time to spare), before sweeping northwards to Biograd.

Once near the marina, you’ll come to the fuel berth on your starboard side (or, more likely, you’ll come across a somewhat disorganised queue of other charter yachts and catamarans who are waiting to get to the fuel berth, which you should join). After refuelling, take the boat back to where you found it a week ago and there should be someone there to help you moor up.

Someone will come and inspect the boat, but you’ll complete the full check-out tomorrow. If you haven’t yet visited Biograd town, there’s a strip of bars and restaurants along the waterfront which will be rammed with sailors tonight who you can swap stories with or dance with.

If you have time tomorrow, Zadar town is a short bus-ride away and the whole of the old town is a UNESCO world heritage site – check out our destination guide for Zadar if that sounds like a place you’d like to see.

Finally, you’ll be on your way home. Hopefully you’ve had a really memorable week in the sunshine, you’ve seen some sights that you’ll remember for years to come, and you’ve had a lot of fun with the rest of your crew. Have a safe flight, and thanks for sailing with PlainSailing.com .  Maybe in a few weeks or months, you can come and visit us and start planning your next sailing adventure!

Sailing Conditions

Croatia Sailing - Wind Conditions

The prevailing winds during summer are the ‘Mistral’ winds, which race landwards from the sea, and are in part powered by the heat of the sun: the sun warms the land, which warms the air above it, which causes it to rise, and which, in turn, pulls the cold air in from above the sea. It means that getting up and down the coast should be relatively straightforward reaches.

The winds are notable for their reliability – they’re almost always Force 3 to Force 5, and they tend to be strong from 9am to mid-day, take a break (“for lunch” according to local fishermen) before returning stronger from 3pm to dusk. After dark, there are usually light winds back out towards the sea, if there are any winds at all.

Biograd - Average Temperature

Biograd is one of the most popular sailing bases in Croatia, and it is within easy sailing distance of the Kornati national park – an area of outstanding beauty which is now protected for future generations. It was one of the pioneering marinas of Croatia – it was established in 1985 when the local mayor identified that there was a real lack of facilities for sailors. Since those humble beginnings, there are now TWO marinas which together can hold 750 boats, making the town one of the biggest charter bases in Croatia.

If you're staying in the area before or after your charter, we can recommend these places that are close to both the marinas: Guest House Dia or Hotel IN .

Marina Kornati, Biograd

Marina Kornati has grown over the years, and the opening of a second Southern wing just 100m further down the coast means that it now completely envelopes the smaller Marina Sangulin. It has all the usual in-marina facilities you would expect from a blue-flag marina – the restaurant in the marina in particular boasts an impressive fine-dining menu and a wide range of local and imported wine.

Marina Kornati, Biograd

Marina Sangulin, Biograd

Marina Sangulin is the smaller marina, and has toilet and shower facilities and water and electric, but, as it only hosts one charter company, it doesn’t boast much by way of tourist facilities: which is fine, because there’s a whole range of bars and restaurants – and a supermarket – within a couple of hundred metres of the marina entrance gate.

Island hopping in the Šibenik archipelago and Kornati islands

1 week: Biograd - Island Murter - Kakan - Zlarin/Šibenik - Primosten - Žirje - Piškera - Žut - Dugi Otok - Vrgada - Biograd

The area of Northern Dalmatia is very popular among sailors. Here sailors of all levels of experience will find untouched nature, secluded bays and equally lively places along the coast. The many larger and smaller islands of Kornati offer you a great potpourri of routes and anchorages, so that you can arrange your vacation according to your own ideas. Start from Biograd for a one-week cruise towards the south and make a stop on the island of Murter . It is located about 30 kilometers from Šibenik . It is connected to the mainland by a swing bridge to the town of Tisno during the summer months, making it a well-visited resort. The west coast of the island opens to the sea and offers several bays, in which restaurants and konobas are located, ideal landing places for sailors.

South of Murter is the Šibenik archipelago . The island of Kakan is uninhabited, but in the northwest there is a bay with a restaurant, which in the summer months is an attractive destination not only for sailors. The bay Potkucine offers protection from winds, such as the notorious bora, which can arise here even in the summer months.

A little further to the southeast is the popular bathing island of Zlarin . With an area of 8 km2 it is not very large, but along its coast there are several quiet bays where not only families can enjoy the crystal clear water undisturbed. If you feel like sightseeing, you can visit the beautiful town of Šibenik . Zlarin is the closest.

On the Croatian mainland in the direction of Primosten is the bay Grebaštica, which is formed by the peninsula Ostrica. Worth seeing here is the so-called wall of Ostrica, which was built in the 15th century as a protective measure. In Primosten, a little more hustle and bustle awaits you. Stroll through the narrow streets of the old town, past typical Dalmatian houses to the highest point where the church of St. Juraj is enthroned. Built in the 15th century, it offers a rewarding view over the sea and the surrounding countryside. Here, the vineyards around Primosten are particularly eye-catching. South of the town are the vineyards of Bucavac Veliki. Here the indigenous grape variety Babic is cultivated on walled fields. Treat yourself to a glass of this powerful red wine with your dinner, which pairs well with meat dishes such as the Dalmatian roast beef pašticada.

On the way back, divers have an opportunity for wreck diving on the southwest coast of Zirje Island. Here, at a depth of only 28 meters, lies the wreck of an Italian Junkers Ju 87 dive bomber, which sank in 1941.

The uninhabited island of Piškera also belongs to the Kornati islands, the small island does not offer much worth seeing, however, the island has a marina with all necessary facilities, which is why it is appreciated by sailors as a stopover.

The island Žut belongs to the Kornati islands but not to the national park. The second largest island of Kornati is also very popular with sailors as a destination for excursions, as it offers beautiful Mediterranean natural landscapes and quiet bays, but there are no national park fees.

On the island of Dugi Otok is the Telašćica Nature Park, the bay of the same name offers one of the largest natural harbors on the Adriatic coast. Here you can anchor and enjoy the tranquility of the surrounding natural landscape. Around the island there are also many smaller bays for a stopover. For those seeking peace and quiet, the island of Vrgada off Biograd is a recommendation. Here, just 5 kilometers from the mainland, there are no cars. Especially for families there is the possibility to stroll carefree through the small town on the island. In the northeast of the island is the beach Podbrizi with the peculiarity that it is a sandy beach. So you can also build the obligatory sand castle for your vacation on Vrgada.

Towards Kvarner Bay: Mix sightseeing with relaxing hours of swimming.

1 week: Biograd - Sukošan - Zadar - Island of Pag - Mali Lošinj - Island of Molat - Island of Iz - Biograd 2 weeks: Biograd - Kornati - Dugi Otok - island Premuda - island Silba - island Susak - island Unije - Mali Lošinj - Ilovik - island Pag - island Vir - Uglijan - Zadar - Biograd

Not without reason Croatia is one of the most popular sailing destinations. The large number of islands and the Caribbean flair of the coasts paired with good and also for beginners suitable sailing conditions is unique. But not only the islands of the Croatian Adriatic coast have their charms. There are also exciting places and worthwhile excursion destinations along the coast. A special highlight is certainly Zadar . A walk through the old town is like a stroll through time. Zadar has been inhabited for 3000 years and remains from all eras can be discovered. In the very north of the peninsula, on which the old town is located, there are two modern buildings, the Sea Organ and the Square "Greeting of the Sun", which you should not miss.

Divers will find an impressive diving site on a steep wall on the small island of Maun , located west of Pag. Also around the island of Pag is good diving and with several wrecks, among others in the bay Šimuni, there are also worthwhile spots besides the diverse underwater world.

If you want to shake a leg during your vacation, visit the beach Zrće near Novalja. During the day there is a wide range of water sports, at night the surrounding discos open their doors and the beach itself becomes a dance floor.

More about the highlights in the Kvarner Bay can be found on the area page and the location pages Mali Lošinj and Punat .

Sean 'Diddy' Combs' son accused of sex assault in lawsuit that also names music mogul as defendant

puff daddy diddy sean

LOS ANGELES — Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is a subject of a federal sex trafficking investigation , has been named as a defendant in a new lawsuit that alleges his son sexually assaulted a woman while she was working on a yacht the music mogul had chartered for a trip at the end of 2022.

The allegation is the latest in a wave of lawsuits accusing Combs , 54, of sexual assault, sexual trafficking and engaging in other criminal activity. He has denied all the allegations, calling them sickening.

In the suit filed Thursday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Grace O’Marcaigh alleges that Christian Combs, 26, sexually assaulted her in late December 2022 while she was working on a boat charter that had been “sold as a wholesome family excursion” but turned into a “hedonistic environment.”

The alleged assault happened just days before Sean Combs hosted a New Year’s Eve yacht party with a long list of celebrity guests .

Christian Combs is accused of sexual assault, sexual harassment and infliction of emotional distress in the lawsuit. Sean Combs is being sued for premises liability as the person who chartered the yacht and for aiding and abetting his son in the alleged assault.

Representatives for Christian and Sean Combs did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday night. Sean Combs has denied all of the recent allegations against him.

“Like father, like son," attorney Tyrone Blackburn, who is representing O’Marcaigh, said Thursday night after the suit was filed. "It gives us no joy or pleasure in filing this suit against Christian Combs who has clearly adopted his father’s pattern and practice of depravity."

In the yacht studio

In her suit, O’Marcaigh alleges that Christian Combs drugged and sexually assaulted her. She included transcriptions of audio clips that she states are evidence of her denying his advances as he gropes her. The suit states that the clips were recorded by a producer in the studio.

O’Marcaigh, who was 25 at the time of the alleged assault, worked as a steward providing dinner and drink service on the yacht from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and witnessed partying and drug use between a “constant rotation of suspected sex workers” and celebrities, the suit states. She also alleges in the complaint that she suspected bottles of alcohol were laced with drugs because women began to fall over themselves, panic or pass out after just one drink.

Around Dec. 28, 2022, O’Marcaigh was informed that Christian Combs would be joining the party to record with music producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones in the yacht’s makeshift studio, the suit states.

Christian Combs had been staying on shore at a villa, but often joined his father in the evenings, according to the suit. The woman’s suit alleges that he arrived “heavily intoxicated” and that he paid an inappropriate amount of attention to her.

Christian then pressured O’Marcaigh to take shots of tequila that she believes he brought onboard, according to the suit.

After she took the shot, O’Marcaigh states in the lawsuit, Christian Combs became aggressive and insisted she drink more.

O’Marcaigh became fearful and began to feel the effect of the tequila, which she “quickly suspected” had been spiked, the suit states.

The situation “escalated” as Christian Combs groped O’Marcaigh’s legs, breast, anus and vagina, the suit states. The suit details audio recordings in which it states O’Marcaigh can be heard declining alcohol, saying she had to leave, and telling Christian Combs to stop touching her with what sounds like kissing noises in the background.

The audio was recorded by Jones, the producer who was in the studio during the alleged assault and who has alleged in his own lawsuit that he was required to record Sean Combs “constantly” and had hours of footage in which the music mogul and his staff allegedly engaged in criminal conduct.

NBC News has heard two clips of audio transcribed in the suit purportedly from the night of Dec. 28, 2022, but has not verified who was recorded.

“Excuse me, you don’t touch my legs like that. I’ll move my legs where I want to,” O’Marcaigh is heard saying in the recording detailed in the suit. “If I want to do this, then I will. You don’t touch my legs like that.”

“Listen, you and everybody in the crew,” Christian Combs allegedly replies.

“I can’t, I have to go down,” O’Marcaigh says. “I have to go down.”

Christian Combs then insists that O’Marcaigh stay with him, but she responds that she cannot unless he makes that request to a crew leader, the suit states, citing the audio recording.

O’Marcaigh answered this way because she knew “anyone of authority” who could approve the request would be asleep and Christian Combs would not be able to contact them, the suit states.

“Who can I talk to? I’m going to say I requested you right now,” Christian Combs said, according to the suit.

“Well, you can take your hand off my ass for the first thing,” O’Marcaigh responded.

O’Marcaigh then attempted to resume her duties and finish her shift once she was able to leave the studio, the suit states. Christian Combs allegedly found her a short time later and insisted she find him a place to sleep.

She directed him to the yacht cinema, which was used as an extra sleeping area, where he blocked her in, the suit states.

Christian Combs allegedly began to grope her and took off his clothes.

“His penis was erect, and he grabbed her arms and was trying to force PLAINTIFF to perform oral sex on him,” the suit states.

The suit includes photos of bruising on O’Marcaigh’s forearm and alleges it was caused when Christian Combs grabbed her.

O’Marcaigh fought him off until someone else walked in, according to the suit.

Since the alleged attack

The alleged assault had a deep impact on O’Marcaigh’s mental health as well as her professional and personal lives, the suit said. When O’Marcaigh complained to the yacht captain the next day, the suit alleges, the captain did not believe her and failed to investigate.

She alleges that the captain retaliated against her until she was terminated in May 2023.

Her mental health deteriorated, and the woman had anxiety and panic attacks as well as severe suicidal ideations, the suit said. O’Marcaigh alleges that the emotional strain affected her physical health and that she developed an eating disorder and epileptic seizures following the assault.

She is seeking unspecified damages.

"I am here to fight for those who can’t fight for themselves and I applaud Grace for being so brave to come forward with her truth," attorney Rodney S. Diggs said of his client. "Hopefully her story will inspire others to come forward."

O’Marcaigh’s suit is the first to accuse Christian Combs of sexual assault. Since November, his father, Sean Combs, has been accused in lawsuits of sexual assault by four women, which he has repeatedly denied.

One of those suits has been settled , and the others have not been resolved.

Jones, a producer who worked for Sean Combs from September 2022 to November 2023, alleged the rapper sexually harassed him, pressured him to engage in sexual acts and forced him to procure sex workers. He said he witnessed Sean Combs giving drinks laced with drugs to people at parties.

An attorney for Combs said Jones’ “reckless name-dropping about events that are pure fiction and simply did not happen is nothing more than a transparent attempt to garner headlines.”

Federal agents walk at the entrance to a property belonging to Sean "Diddy" Combs

On March 25, agents with Homeland Security Investigations searched Sean Combs’ properties in Los Angeles and Miami. A source familiar with the investigation told NBC News that a federal investigation began before this year and that authorities were aware of the layout of Combs’ properties before the raids.

During the searches last month, federal agents discovered guns and seized his phones as part of a warrant issued from the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, law enforcement sources have said. Christian Combs was detained at his father’s Los Angeles home last month when Homeland Security Investigations executed a search warrant, but he was not arrested.

Investigators are also looking into allegations of statutory rape against Sean Combs, the source said.

NBC News previously reported that at least three women and one man have been interviewed by federal investigators in relation to allegations of sex trafficking, sexual assault and the solicitation and distribution of illegal narcotics and firearms.

Aaron Dyer, one of Combs’ attorneys, issued a statement following last month’s property searches and said that Combs “was never detained but spoke to and cooperated with authorities.” He described the search as an ambush, saying there’s been a rush to judgment based on “meritless accusations made in civil lawsuits.”

“There has been no finding of criminal or civil liability with any of these allegations,” Dyer said. “Mr. Combs is innocent and will continue to fight every single day to clear his name.”
