Can I View the Yacht Before I Purchase?

Yes - in fact it is highly recommended to view as many yachts as possible during the purchase process. Your Y.CO Broker will assist in creating a shortist of yachts, organise private visits, accompany you on board and will help you ask the right questions.

What Happens after Offer Acceptance?

After acceptance of the offer, a sea trial and haul out will be arranged on your behalf. This allows your Y.CO broker, our technical experts and an independent yacht surveyor to verify that all the systems on board the vessel perform as specified.

What yachting industry insiders have to say about Jeff Bezos' superyacht

• Jeff Bezos' yacht , which reportedly cost $500 million to build, completed its first year at sea.
• The superyacht, Koru, was a frequent topic of conversation at the Palm Beach boat show.
• Here's what industry insiders think about the vessel.

It's been just about a year since Koru, Jeff Bezos ' $500 million megayacht, set sail from the Oceanco shipyard in the Netherlands, capturing the attention of yachting insiders and land dwellers alike.

Even after her first season at sea, the 127-meter ship is still one of the most talked about vessels among those in the know — and not just for the busty figurehead on its prow, which many have wrongly speculated is based on Bezos's fiancée . Koru was a hot topic at the annual Palm Beach International Boat Show, where the yachts of other billionaires were on display for sale or charter.

The overwhelming response from those Business Insider spoke to was awe, with many praising her unique design, commenting on her immense size, or remarking that they'd been lucky enough to see her up close.

"It's absolutely beautiful," said Federico Rossi, the COO of luxury yachtbuilder Rossinavi.

Still, due to the small size of the industry — and the fact that privacy is paramount in the yachting community — even those who complimented Koru mostly did not want to go on record in order to protect professional relationships.

"That thing's amazing," one such superyacht expert told BI. "It's very well done in terms of craftsmanship."

Unlike many other megayachts, Koru, which media billionaire Barry Diller's Eos inspired, is designed as a sailing yacht. That bucks the current trend of more severe-looking explorer boats — though Koru's 75-meter support vessel Abeona is of a more typical style,

"I heard back in 2018 or something that somebody had ordered a classic sailing yacht," the superyacht expert also told BI. "You order 125 meters, that's not really going to be classic. But it is. I think it's pretty cool."

Like most other megayachts, Koru is powered by her engines, which are reportedly innovative in their use of a kinetic energy recovery system. Industry experts, therefore, pointed out that her sails are more for looks than anything else — but that still works in her favor, with many praising her overall aesthetic appeal.

"It's stunning," added a captain who has worked on several megayachts. He said he'd seen Koru in St. Barts, a favorite spot of Bezos and his fiancée Lauren Sanchez , over the holidays.

"There are definitely uglier boats out there," one yacht architect said. "It's not like it's shaped like his rocket," he jokily added, referring to the phallic design of Blue Origin's New Shephard .

Some, though, think the yacht is a bit excessive — which is saying something in a world where bigger is better and $250 million is a normal amount to spend.

"That's over the top. That's an insanely ridiculous boat," a longtime broker who favors discretion said. It's a "whole big show."

And the expert who praised the yacht's craftsmanship balanced his admiring comments by saying Koru's liberal use of teak — a wood traditionally used for yacht decks — was "bizarre."

The material has gained a bad reputation in the industry in recent years, as it typically comes from Myanmar, a country with a checkered human rights record. Plus, it takes a long time to grow, leading to deforestation.

Many shipyards have now turned to alternatives, like bamboo or plantation-grown teak, in their pushes toward sustainability. Bezos' team did not respond to BI's question about the origin of the deck's wood.

Teak or not, the yachting industry isn't generally known for being all that environmentally friendly — or indeed lowkey, so many who BI talked to didn't buy into the idea that Koru is "too much."

"If this is genuinely Jeff's dream come true, then great," Anders Kurtén, the CEO of brokerage Fraser Yachts, said. "I'm genuinely happy for him, and I'm happy for the people who got the opportunity to have employment to work on that."

And Bezos, of course, isn't the only billionaire with a stunning yacht . Billionaires like Jerry Jones and Bernard Arnault have also, at times, turned heads with their boats.

Most recently, insiders have tied Mark Zuckerberg to a 118-meter ship named Launchpad . It's the latest superyacht to capture the yachting world's attention.

So, as she sets sail for her debut summer season, Launchpad may take Koru's place as the main yacht on everyone's radar this year.

The windy Russian autumn weather might be a little bit tricky for sailing, but it doesn’t stop brave yachtsmen from all over the world from flocking to Russian capital in the beginning of September when the Moscow Yacht Show commences. The main Russian Yacht exhibition gathers professional and amateur yacht lovers together under the wing of The Royal Yacht Club.

This year it took place for a fourth time already. The exhibition is considered the principal event on the sporting and social calendar. The Moscow Yacht Show 2010 united in one area three of the largest Russian yachts distributors: Ultramarine, Nordmarine and Premium Yachts.

A wide range of yachts were on display for a week. An exhibition showcased yachts both from Russian manufacturers and world famous brands: Azimut, Princess, Ferretti, Pershing, Riviera, Doral, Linssen, etc.

It was a real feast for seafarers as visitors of the show had a unique chance not only to take a look at the newest superyachts before they hit the market, but also to evaluate their driving advantages during the test drive. The show provided an excellent opportunity for yacht enthusiasts to choose and buy a new boat for the next season.

The event started with the grandiose gala evening. It included grand dinner, the concert and professional awards ceremony for achievements in Russian yachting industry. The guests also enjoyed the annual regatta.

Special guest Paolo Vitelli, Azimut Benetti Group president, opened the evening.

Next year organizers assured guests they would bring more yachts, the scale of which will even make oligarch Roman Abramovich envious. Sounds very promising indeed.

Billionaire fights to dock his boat on water behind his house. His 164-foot boat, that is.

The love of the water, and a mega-yacht to enjoy it, is putting one resident at odds with village of north palm beach leaders..

For some people, the ultimate Florida lifestyle is a waterfront house , a private dock and a boat parked next to it. But what if that boat is a mega-yacht , and the mega-yacht stretches 164 feet?

That's the conundrum facing the Village of North Palm Beach.

This tiny community in northern Palm Beach County, with only 13,000 full-time residents, has an identity so tied to the water that a ship's steering wheel is the village's emblem.

But it's that love of the water that is putting one resident at odds with village leaders.

For the past several years, homeowner Michael Bozutto has been battling the village for the right to park his 164-foot Westport, dubbed Honey, behind a home he owns at 932 Shore Drive.

The house, built in 1961, is a one-story, ranch-style property with three bedrooms on a half-acre lot. Bozzuto paid $840,247 for the house in 2014, according to Palm Beach County property records.

Lawsuit rooted in dispute over where to dock mega-yacht

What makes this plain house special is its location. It's on a rare corner bordered on the north and east by navigable waters that provide access to the Atlantic Ocean via the Lake Worth Inlet. The east-facing dock is large enough to accommodate Bozzuto's motor yacht.

Since Bozutto bought Honey for an undisclosed sum a decade ago, he mostly has parked it at the Old Port Cove Marina, near Tiger Woods' 155-foot showy mega-yacht, ironically dubbed Privacy.

More recently, Bozzuto has wanted to park Honey alongside his Shore Drive house, one of four houses he owns in the village. While Bozzuto keeps some personal property at the Shore Drive house, he lives at a house he owns at Harbour Isles Court.

Village officials warned Bozzuto he can't park Honey at 932 Shore Drive because boats can only be parked on docks behind houses that are occupied by the homeowner.

But village rules do not define the word "occupied." For instance, the rules do not state that occupied means the house is a residence where the owner lives. Village rules also contain no restrictions on the size of boats that can be kept at private docks.

After years of pushing back against what he believes are fuzzy rules, Bozzuto in March filed a lawsuit against the village.

He alleged the municipality is illegally depriving him of his property rights because nothing in the village code prevents him from mooring Honey at his house. He is asking a Palm Beach County Circuit Court judge to rule that he has a constitutional right to dock Honey there.

Gregory Coleman, Bozzuto's West Palm Beach attorney, said the village has plenty of waterfront homes with yachts parked behind them. But Coleman said the village is illegally blocking Bozzuto from docking Honey at his house because the village is bending to pressure from a handful of neighbors who think the boat is too big.

The selective enforcement is wrong, said Coleman, a former president of the Florida Bar.

"He's a very under-the-radar guy who doesn't cause anybody any problems," Coleman said of Bozzuto. "He pays his property taxes, and he wants to be left alone by the village of North Palm Beach. Unfortunately, they are singling Mike out."

Neither Leonard Rubin, the village's longtime attorney, nor Village Manager Chuck Huff responded to requests for comment.

Eric Stettin, a Fort Lauderdale-based attorney who is representing the village in the Bozzuto lawsuit, said he could not comment on pending litigation.

What good is a man's castle if he can't have a boat in his moat?

Coleman's lawsuit describes the conflict as a battle over property rights, but real estate and yachting experts say it's also a sign of the times.

As wealthy new residents pour into the county wanting all the perks of the Sunshine State, they want a boat to go along with their waterfront homes and golf club memberships. Some longtime residents fear Palm Beach County is turning into a playground for billionaires, to the detriment of everyday people who also want to live in sunshine and peace.

This conflict between Old Florida and new money is an ever-present tension, but even seasoned yacht brokers say they've never seen interest in luxury yachts quite as strong as it is now.

"What we've seen in the marketplace right after COVID in the yachting industry, and especially the superyacht segment, is the most incredible growth ever seen in the history of yachting to date," said Shannon McCoy, a luxury yacht advisor and broker with Worth Avenue Yachts in Palm Beach.

"A lot of people are moving here with serious money," added Pascal Savoy, U.S. managing director of Camper & Nicholsons International yacht brokers in Fort Lauderdale.

While in the past Palm Beach County was not considered lively enough for some buyers, Savoy said the county's growing sophistication is putting it on the map in a way never seen before.

"It's a mini-Monaco for us," Savoy said.

Prices for mega-yachts can range from $18 million to $60 million, or many times that, for the largest and most decked-out mega-yachts, Savoy said.

While some yachts can be glitzy, a 164-foot Westport is considered a more low-profile boat, Savoy added.

Michael Bozzuto's interests: Houses, boats and philanthropy

Bozzuto is no newcomer to North Palm Beach. He's been a resident of the village for 20 years.

He is the billionaire owner of a family-owned supermarket wholesaler in Connecticut, and an investor and philanthropist who likes to collect houses and yachts, Coleman said.

In addition to the four North Palm Beach houses and several yachts he owns, Bozzuto in February paid a whopping $31.1 million for a house in the Town of Palm Beach Shores. The house, which has two docks, sits just north of the Palm Beach/Lake Worth Inlet.

Coleman said there is plenty of room for other boaters to navigate the waterway when Honey is parked at the Shore Drive house in North Palm Beach. And while other people may not have as large a yacht, there are other sizeable yachts parked on docks behind other North Palm Beach homes, too, he added.

At a 2017 village council meeting, then-Mayor Darryl Aubrey commented on the issue, according to the complaint.

"When I didn't live here full time, I had a boat sitting in my dock, I was gone nine months of the year. I don't see how you can say that someone has to be in a residence year-round, seems to be some interpretation of occupant, there would be an enormous number of violations," Aubrey said.

Another member of the village council asked if the village had a definition now, the complaint said.

Rubin, the village attorney, replied: "No, we don't," according to the lawsuit.

Palm Beach County's waterways run deep, and they are popular

The yacht docking dispute is particularly timely, given the scarcity of dock space for boats of all sizes.

The most convenient place to park a boat is on the water behind a house, brokers say. But not every waterway or channel can accommodate the draft, or depth, of a mega-yacht.

However, the dock behind Bozzuto's Shore Drive house can.

Not only is the Westport not known for its deep hulls, but the waterway also is typical of northern Palm Beach County, which boasts deep water and easy access to the ocean via the Lake Worth Inlet, said Coleman, a lifelong boater.

"In Palm Beach County, they have deeper water, and it allows people to have larger yachts," Savoy agreed.

But not every waterway is deep enough for every boat.

McCoy said she specializes in helping advise potential yacht owners about the county's varied water depths before they buy a house, if they plan to dock their yacht behind it.

If yacht owners don't have a private dock, the other option is a marina. But marina space is hard to find, with many dock berths reserved for months in advance, McCoy said.

Despite the challenges of owning a boat and finding a place to dock it, yacht brokers say demand continues.

They see interest continuing from business executives moving here with their families as they relocate their companies to Palm Beach County. There's also a growing demand for yachts among female buyers, McCoy added.

They also see younger mega-yacht buyers, some even in their early 30s. This is in sharp contrast to the mostly older buyers in the past, Savoy said.

Palm Beach County may not be as go-go as Miami-Dade County when it comes to showy ships, but if interest continues, "it's coming," Savoy said. "You're going to attract bigger yachts."

Put another way: "No one needs a boat, but everyone needs a boat," McCoy said. "It's the ultimate lifestyle."

Terry O’Neill Lives On in Palm Beach as Five-Star Hotel Art Ups the Ante

From a distance, I hear it again: “Nice yacht!” Looking out on the warm waters of Lake Worth Lagoon—the narrow strait that separates Palm Beach proper from West Palm Beach—I see fellow boaters marveling at us, and I don’t blame them. We’re an aspirational sight, sipping champagne and nibbling treats from the cheese board on a $1,200,000 vessel during our sun-soaked two-hour tour. I have the sudden urge to check up on my stocks and bonds; just as suddenly, I remember I have neither.

I’m cruising today as a guest of The Brazilian Court Hotel. A glitzy staple for nearly a century, the acclaimed Palm Beach luxury hotel recently rolled out this yachting adventure, and I’m lucky to be among the first to enjoy it.

Some hotels court guests with luxe toiletries. The Brazilian Court tempts guests with the BC One, a 44-foot Brunello Acampora-designed Italian Solaris Power Yacht. “How was your ride?” the buoyant front desk clerk asks me upon my return to dry land, and she seems sincerely eager to hear about my experience. “It was top-tier,” I recall saying, having never before uttered a similar sentence sans irony. It’s that earnest hospitality, along with the unforgettable experiences, that repeat guests of the hotel have come to expect—perhaps unsurprisingly. With so much competition, properties need to pull out all the stops.

“It’s about building a special experience,” Bobby Schlesinger , who runs the century-old Brazilian Court with his wife, Courtney, told Observer. That experience includes everything from the yacht tours to the Palm Beach outpost of Chef Daniel Boulud ’s Café Boulud to the concierge service available around the clock. It also encompasses the carefully curated art on the walls.

Relaxing in my room, I gaze upward and see Dean Martin, breaking through curtains, staring back at me. It’s not dissimilar to other striking portraits I’ve seen around the property: chic black-and-white photos that one can’t help but notice.

It used to be that hotels, however luxurious, would hang pretty much anything on the walls, provided it was inoffensive, relatively neutral and geographically appropriate. I remember visiting Vegas and seeing overblown shots of the Sunset Strip in every one of my hotel rooms—so touristy as to look like poster-size postcards. Ditto for beachside hotel prints of Hokusai’s Great Wave and ski resorts with pictures of moose.

“Historically artwork in hotels has not just been an afterthought, it’s been laughable,” Schlesinger told me. “Just look at the sites and social media pages dedicated to how bad hotel art has been over the years.”

When he thought about elevating the art at The Brazilian Court, he had two personalities in mind. The first was internationally renowned photographer Nathan Coe , whose oeuvre encompasses landscapes and nudes and—full disclosure—is a friend of Schlesinger. “He’s quintessentially Palm Beach, but a new and sexy version of Palm Beach, which is something we’re trying to bring across in both our look and feel,” he said. “We trust the artist to know what his best pieces are and what he’s most proud to show off.”

But what I’d been seeing was the work of the late British photographer Terry O’Neill—legendary for his astute depictions of old Hollywood. His list of subjects runs the gamut of film, music and fashion VIPs: Judy Garland, The Beatles, Faye Dunaway, David Bowie and more recently Amy Winehouse. If you think you’re not familiar with O’Neill’s work, let me assure you that you actually are (think Elton John in that iconic skin-tight sequined baseball uniform). His photographs are widely collected and exhibited.

Featuring his work felt right: “Terry captures this old show business mystique the hotel has embodied since opening in the 1920s and playing host to many celebrities, dignitaries, artists and musicians throughout the years.” But it was important to the brand that The Brazilian Court obtained an exclusive license to exhibit O’Neill’s work. His images, Schlesinger explained, tow a delicate line. “They’re fun, they’re playful and they’re also serious art.”

These days, if you’re a five-star hotel and you don’t have a highly curated selection of artwork or an artist-in-residence program , what are you even doing? Earlier this summer while visiting Capri’s iconic Hotel Caesar Augustus , which overlooks the sparkling waters of the Adriatic, the original artwork enhanced my experience basking in the Mediterranean sun with an aperitivo in hand. Another privately-run property—this one by the Signorini family—has lush natural surroundings complemented by stunning sculptures, including one of the eponymous ruler that sits on its sunny terrace. It was placed there by its original owner, Russian Prince Emmanual Bulhak, who was a trailblazer when it came to envisioning the humble hotel as a centerpiece for art and culture in the early 20th Century.

But whether or not you agree that Bulhak was a trailblazer, the idea of hotels showcasing great art has lately become a global trend in hospitality, from The Carlyle Hotel employing the artist Ludwig Bemelmans to paint the walls of its eponymous bar to the Bellagio over in Las Vegas becoming a de facto museum for Dale Chihuly’s colorful compositions of blown glass.

Or even the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club in beautiful Bermuda. “We’re all about creating memories with unforgettable service and experiences by engaging our visitors,” says Diarmaid O'Sullivan , director of sales and marketing. “Our art collection is a key part of our identity in delivering that engagement.”

That particular resort isn’t kidding around, with original pieces by a roster of artists that reads like a Who’s Who of the most indelible names of all time: Warhol and Picasso, Henri Matisse, Rene Magritte, Roy Lichtenstein, Yayoi Kusama. There’s even an original Banksy in with the Hockneys and the Koons. “Incredible works from some of the most iconic modern and pop artists can be found in our rooms, common spaces, down each hallway, throughout our incredible restaurants, and even outside,” O’Sullivan told Observer.

Sometimes this penchant for show-stopping, eye-popping art is the purview of the developers of the properties versus the hoteliers. On the other side of the world, The Grand Wailea in Maui boasts the largest collection of Fernando Botero sculptures outside the artist’s homeland of Colombia. Takeshi Sekiguchi , the resort’s original developer, was an avid collector, and each of the Botero pieces serves as a pillar of the hotel’s design.

“The investment in thought-provoking, museum-worthy art elevates and inspires visitors within a space, and can serve as a greater draw to a hotel,” JP Oliver , the area managing director of Grand Wailea, said.
