GUARDIAN epitomizes the best in comfort, style and speed. A couple easily handles her. She has the pedigree, sea-keeping characteristics for which Viking is justly famous and every space on the vessel has been designed for luxury living while aboard. Open air living or climate controlled comfort on the flybridge and sprawling aft deck are part of what makes being on this vessel so enjoyable.

The cockpit provides a platform for water sports and fishing and has a great dunnage box for storage. The aft deck (back porch) is immense with plenty of seating, wet bar and built-in TV. This space, along with the flybridge, is heated and cooled. The salon is spacious, bright and airy with a dinette tucked to starboard directly across from the gourmet galley with full sized refrigerator.

The master stateroom provides everything a luxurious yacht should have - walk around queen berth, ample closet and storage areas and a very nice ensuite lavatory. The forward guest stateroom features a walk around queen and the third stateroom has over/under bunks, each with private heads and separate showers.

The engine room access is in the aft companionway on the port side - it is bright, spotless, well organized, has plenty of headroom and all components are easily accessed.

Guardian is in excellent condition.  Her engine room is clean and organized, and she is very well equipped to be self sufficient away from the dock.   She's set up to cruise, but she would also make a wonderful live aboard. 

This vessel is currently owned and maintained by a professional mariner (3,000 ton license) with over 50 years of big boat/ ship experience.   He has cared for Guardian like a family member.  If ever the boat needed anything, he has tended to it immediately. Guardian is truly in excellent condition.

+ Vessel Walkthrough

Entering from the cockpit and up the molded stairs enables easy entry to the enclosed aft deck lounge. Also, there is boarding access from the wide side decks port or starboard entering through the wing doors. For the aft deck lounge we can go up three stairs to the enclosed flybridge or down three stairs for entry to the main salon area. Aft of the main salon and down three stairs you will find the engine room entry doorstop our right. Further aft you will then enter the spacious full beam master suite with private head with a separate shower stall. 

Forward of the main salon to the port is the fully functional galley with the finite area to starboard. Moving forward and down three stairs is the companionway. To the port is the laundry area featuring a separate washer and dryer. 

To the starboard is the guest cabin with upper and lower berths with private access to the guest/day head with separate shower. Moving forward is the day head entrance also to the starboard and continuing forward is the VIP guest cabin with its own private head and separate shower. 

The spacious salon, dining and galley are all on the same level with plenty of natural light. The full width salon is enormous, especially when compared to similar yachts and she has the highly desirable walk-around side decks. The teak cabinetry has a gloss finish which adds highlights to the environment and is in excellent condition. Along the port side is an L-shaped sofa upholstered in an off-white ultra leather with built-in storage, and adjacent is an upholstered foot stool with storage. Forward is a built-in end table with drawer storage. The casual dining area is opposite to starboard with a high gloss table. Above this area behind the two doors is a Samsung flat screen TV that can be viewed from just about anywhere in the salon. There is also an Onkyo entertainment system with four speakers and a sub-woofer in this area. The designer window treatments and beautiful wood floors were recently added in 2020.

The galley is completely open to the salon and dining area. The countertop is an easy to clean off white hard surface material. The appliances are positioned for ease of use and there is generous storage. Appliances include: sink with disposal, Sharp carousel convection microwave oven, Kenmore double door fridge and freezer with indoor ice and water dispenser, Kenmore dishwasher and a recessed Princess 2-burner cook top.

"Just In Time" offers a full beam private aft owners suite. There are two full length cedar lined wardrobes and the starboard side is walk-in. The berth is center line and affords easy walk around access on three sides. There is an abundant drawer storage on both sides and built-in night tables with storage and lamps. On the port side is a built-in vanity with a mirror and dimmable lights. The entertainment center is built-in the forward bulkhead with a Toshiba Flat screen TV and a Fusion MS-AV600 stereo system. The private head with its large stall shower is forward to the port. It is spacious and offers excellent storage for towels and toiletries.

"Just In Time" provides two super staterooms. Forward is the VIP suite with a Queen centerline berth, full height cedar lined wardrobe and an excellent drawer storage. It has its own Cruiser digital SMX air-conditioning control. Aft to port is the large guest bath with a separate stall shower. There are deck hatches both over the bed and in the head offering natural light as a bonus. There is a Samsung Flat Screen TV and a Fusion MS CD-600 for entertainment. 

The second guest stateroom is on the starboard side just aft of the VIP. There are twin upper and lower berths and a cedar wardrobe. The bath is accessed from both the stateroom for privacy and secondly from the companionway to double as a day head. The head also has a separate shower stall and an overhead deck hatch. Each stateroom has its individual Cruisair digital SMX air-conditioning control.

The Aft Deck is extremely spacious with noticeably large windows that afford tremendous views from the interior. The side windows slide open. On either side forward are wing doors and aft is sliding entry door all offering natural ventilation when desired. The furnishings include a L-shaped sofa with storage, 2 barrel chairs and a padded storage bench that converts to a table top. There is a multi-colored rug that follows up to the enclosed bridge. The sides have built-in soffits with recessed accent lighting. Forward on the port side is a built-in wet bar complete with refrigerator and ice maker capabilities. Above the bar is a Sony flat screen TV with sound bar behind storage. There are 2 MB Quartz speakers tied into a 3-zone stereo system. A separate Cruiser SMX digital control maintains your desired temperatures.

Up a couple of stairs from the aft deck it affords a climate controlled environment. Forward are three Stidd pedestal helm and companion chairs. Aft to port is a built-in L-shaped settee. There is access to the upper sun deck from the aft sliding window. Windows on either side slide open when desired. The Pilothouse has its own air-conditioning system with a Cruiser SMX digital control. The navigation and controls are positioned for easy viewing and navigation. One of the features of this model is a pilot house that easily doubles as an additional lounge area. With its custom hard enclosure, the Pilothouse is noticeably and uniquely quiet. There are 2 MB Quartz speakers tied into a 3-zone stereo system. Controls for the sea keeper stabilization system and the unique digital display of fuel, water and waste integrated with the camera display is unique and separates "Just In Time" from the rest.

VESSEL REVIEW | Sinichka – Electric commuter boats designed for Russia’s Moskva River

A series of three new electric monohull commuter ferries have already begun operational sailings on the Moskva River in the Russian capital Moscow.

Built by Russian shipyard Emperium, sister vessels Sinichka , Filka , and Presnya – all named after rivers in Moscow – are being operated by the Moscow Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development (Moscow Deptrans). They are the first units of a planned fleet of 20 vessels that will serve the capital city and other nearby communities. The new ferry system will be the water transport system to be operated on the Moskva River in 16 years.

Each vessel has a welded aluminium hull, an LOA of 21 metres, a beam of 6.2 metres, a draught of only 1.4 metres, a displacement of 40 tonnes, and capacity for 80 passengers plus two crewmembers. Seating is available for 42 passengers on each ferry, and the main cabins are also fitted with USB charging ports, wifi connectivity, tables, toilets, and space for bicycles and scooters. The cabin layout can be rearranged to allow the operator to adjust the distances between the seats and to install armrests of varying widths.

An open upper deck is also accessible to passengers and is the only area on each ferry where smoking is allowed.

The ferries are all of modular construction with each ferry’s wheelhouse, main cabin, and other structural elements being built as complete, separate components. This enables the ferries to be easily dismantled for transport to anywhere in Russia by rail and then quickly re-assembled within seven days.

The ferries are also ice-capable. Recently completed operational trials on the Moskva showed that the vessels can also easily navigate under mild winter conditions with broken surface ice, though year-round operations are planned for the entire fleet.

The ferries are each fitted with 500kWh lithium iron phosphate battery packs that supply power to two 134kW motors. This configuration can deliver a maximum speed of 11.8 knots, a cruising speed of just under 10 knots, and a range of 150 kilometres.

Emperium said the transfer of rotation of electric motors to the propeller is carried out by direct drive. As a propulsion installation, a pulling rotary propeller-steering column with double screws is used. The installation of double pulling screws, with similar power, allows an operator to increase the efficiency of the propulsion system to deliver a slightly higher speed or to reduce energy consumption. This arrangement also provides the ferries with enhanced manoeuvrability necessary for navigating in close quarters.

The batteries themselves have projected service lives of 10 to 12 years and are fitted with safety features such as built-in fire extinguishers and gas vents. Quick-disconnect features allow the batteries to be easily removed for replacement or maintenance.

Some of our readers have expressed disquiet at our publication of reviews and articles describing new vessels from Russia. We at Baird Maritime can understand and sympathise with those views. However, despite the behaviour of the country’s leaders, we believe that the maritime world needs to learn of the latest developments in vessel design and construction there.
