The Resurrection of Superyacht KANALOA

An in-depth survey had been carried out and it was deemed that, due to the cost, restoring the yacht to a sea-worthy state, let alone to her former glory as one of the Mediterranean’s leading charter yachts, was not feasible. Having discovered significant corrosion to structural elements of the hull, deck and internal structure, KANALOA sat neglected for two years.

After months of meticulous and detailed planning, KANALOA’s newly appointed managers at Hill Robinson Yacht Management proposed a full mechanical and structural refit, which would return her to active service as a classed commercial vessel.

In June 2014, the KANALOA project started at the Composite Works’ facility in La Ciotat, France where, under the tight scrutiny of project manager Pino di Mora and KANALOA captain Dean Homan, an experienced team of contractors and crew set about bringing KANALOA back to her former glory.

The extensive structural restoration began when Lloyds’ Register surveyors began an in-depth inspection and certification of the yacht’s structure and hull plating. This process required dismantling all machinery, fittings and insulation around the areas suspected of corrosion. Following the inspection, all metal work in need of repairs was replaced, again following the strict Lloyds’ rules, and duly documented. It is worth noting that the depth and scope of this work far surpassed normal 20-year special survey requirements, which often rely only on nondestructive testing measurements.

The refit was not limited to just structural work; both Deutz main engines were completely rebuilt and returned to zero hours. In addition, gearboxes, tanks, pipework, air conditioning, technical spaces and steering gear all were completely overhauled. Further more, both tail shafts, including the shaft bearings and seals, were removed and replaced. Following the comprehensive mechanical and structural refit, KANALOA also received full exterior paintwork to her topsides and superstructure and a full refurbishment of all the teak decking.

The full extent of KANALOA ’s transformation is made even more remarkable by the fact it was completed to the highest of standards within 14 months — just in time for her grand debut at the 2015 Monaco Yacht Show.

Northrop & Johnson was chosen to represent KANALOA from the early stages of the refit. In addition, the brokerage was tasked at keeping the market informed with her progress. The  ‘Kanaloa’  is a 157.48ft  /48-meter  Custom motor yacht built in 1996 by CRN and last refitted in 2015. The yacht was previously named Pegaso of the Cayman Islands, and her luxurious interior is designed by Zuretti. Her stunning exterior styling is by George Nicholson.

The sundeck Jacuzzi has a swim-up bar so provides a luxurious way to relax and take in the view, while the full beam master and the superyacht won the Judges’ Commendation at World Superyacht Awards

Kanaloa’s interior layout is spacious, and sleeps up to 11 guests in 6 rooms, including a master suite, 1 VIP stateroom, 1 double cabin, 2 twin cabins and 1 single cabin. She is also capable of carrying up to 11 crew members on board to ensure the most luxurious of yachting experience for all.

The vessel is built with steel hull and aluminium superstructure, and has a cruising speed of 12 knots, a maximum speed of 17.3 knots and a range of 4,400nm from 121,000litre fuel tanks.

She also comes complete with a modern stabilization system to reduce roll motion even during rough seas, and the yacht also has ‘at anchor stabilizers’ to keep things smooth even at anchor/zero speed.

While on board you’ll find a great Wi-Fi connection, so you can check emails or update social media. Air conditioning keeps conditions comfortable throughout the cabins, even on the warmest of days.

CRN motor yacht Kanaloa sold

The 48.2 metre motor yacht Kanaloa, listed for sale by Alex Koersvelt at Edmiston & Company has been sold with Makis Georgakas at Marine Marketing introducing the buyer.

Designed by George Nicholson , Kanaloa was built in steel and aluminium by Italian yard CRN  and was delivered in 1996, and has since received several subsequent refits and upgrades. Lloyd's classed and MCA compliant, her elegant Francois Zuretti interior is beautifully crafted in cherry wood and burled ash with luxurious neutral fabrics and leather, offering large volumes.

Accommodation is for up to 11 guests in six cabins consisting of a full-beam master suite, VIP suite, three twins and a single ‘nanny’ cabin, all with full en-suite bathroom facilities.

On deck spaces are generous with a variety of open and shaded spaces for enjoying meals and socialising. Her large sundeck offers a relaxing combination of a spa pool, sunbathing pads and a bar area, while the satcom arch with an awning attached provides welcome shade.

Kanaloa underwent a 24-month, multimillion-euro refit at Compositeworks in La Ciotat, France, which was completed in August 2015. She received a full hull restoration, restored teak decks, revamped technical spaces including zero-hour engines and a full repaint. She also now benefits from refitted crew quarters and a new audio/visual system.

Twin Deutz 2,285hp engines give her a cruising speed of 12 knots and a range of 4,700 nautical miles.

Kanaloa was asking €5,950,000.

Motor Yacht KANALOA received her stylish interior designing from the interior design office of Zuretti Interior Design. Built at Crn Yachts (Ferretti Group) the yacht was constructed in the recognised yachting country Italy. She was successfully launched in Ancona in 1996 before being delivered to the owner. A spacious proportion is manifested with a total beam (width) of 9.15 m or 30 feet. With a 3.05m (10ft) draught (maximum depth) she is deep. The material steel was used in the building of the hull of the motor yacht. Her superstructure above deck is created from aluminium. In 2009 extra refit work and updating was in addition performed.

M/Y KANALOA Engineering & Speed:

This yacht utilises twin responsive DEUTZ-MWM diesel engine(s) and can manage a comparatively good top end speed at 17 knots. The main engine of the KANALOA produces 2100 horse power (or 1545 kilowatts). Her total HP is 4200 HP and her total Kilowatts are 3091. KANALOA is propelled by twin screw propellers. As for the yacht’s stabalisers she utilises Koopnautic. For bow thrusters she utilises Koopnautic. This yacht’s efficient cruise speed is 14 knots which offers a range of 7000.

Motor yacht Kanaloa is a world-capable yacht built in 1996 by renowned shipyard CRN. This impressive Italian vessel is a combination of steel hull and aluminium superstructure featuring exterior design by Studio Scanu and the interior talents of Zuretti. She measures 48.3 metres in length and can accommodate up to 12 guests.

Originally christened Pegaso of the Cayman Islands, the 48 metre is now in the hands of her second owner. A long-time charter favourite, Kanaloa has been well-maintained and serviced over her impressive career. In 2008 alone she underwent two mini-refits, receiving new teak decks, hull paint and interior blinds.

One of her crowning features is the sprawling sundeck which caters for a seating area, sunpads and a hot tub. This spacious area has been known to host parties with an attendee list of 100. The main dining room is situated on the main aft deck and features a table that can seat as many as 12 or convert to form two separate tables for four or six.

Her interior manages to be both understated and exceptional; generating calm with subtle tones including sober matt-finish woods, bright artworks, and chrome and stainless steel fittings.

Throughout her career she has experienced updates to her engines and generators; mechanical and electrical components; audio-visual equipment; and communication and internet capabilities.

Amongst her five cabins are a lavish Owner’s suite; a VIP cabin; Double cabin; and two Twin cabins. The master cabin is situated on the main deck, adjacent to a double-bed cabin. Below decks can be found a full-width VIP cabin and two Twin cabins with additional Pullman berths.

Luxury yacht Kanaloa is powered by Deutz TBD 620 engines that allow her to reach a maximum speed of 17 knots and cruise comfortably at 14 knots. Capable of a range of 8,800 nautical miles at 11.8 knots, she can cruise extensively and is also equipped for offshore and diving trips.

Featuring a dedicated crew of 11 under the direction of Captain Jeff Guymon she is an excellent charter yacht for luxury vacations. Kanaloa cruises the West Mediterranean during the summer charter season and the Caribbean in winter.

The refit was not limited to just structural work; both Deutz main engines were completely rebuilt and returned to zero hours. In addition, gearboxes, tanks, pipework, air conditioning, technical spaces and steering gear all were completely overhauled. Further more, both tail shafts, including the shaft bearings and seals, were removed and replaced. Following the comprehensive mechanical and structural refit, KANALOA also received full exterior paintwork to her topsides and superstructure and a full refurbishment of all the teak decking.

The full extent of KANALOA’s transformation is made even more remarkable by the fact it was completed to the highest of standards within 14 months — just in time for her grand debut at the 2015 Monaco Yacht Show.

Northrop & Johnson was chosen to represent KANALOA from the early stages of the refit. In addition, the brokerage was tasked at keeping the market informed with her progress. Hill Robinson Director Nick Hill summarized, “We were absolutely delighted that Northrop & Johnson could present KANALOA for the Monaco Yacht Show in September, thus achieving our promised objective and exceeding the owner’s expectations. KANALOA has been an extraordinary project with a combination of factors all contributing to an amazing success story. After suffering neglect during a prolonged lay-up period, the Hill Robinson project team transformed KANALOA into a fully classed, MCA-, ISM-, ISPS-, MLC-compliant vessel only 14 months. She is ready to charter and invite her owners or guests to enjoy her state-of-the-art facilities.”

Performance & Range

Azul V is built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. Powered by twin Deutz engines, she comfortably cruises at 15 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 17 knots with a range of up to 4,700 nautical miles from her 121,000 litre fuel tanks at 12 knots. An on board stabilization system ensures comfort when underway.

When not cruising Azul V has onboard an incredible selection of water toys and accessories for you and your guests to connect with the waters around you. Guests can feel the wind in their hair and jump the waves on one of the two WaveRunners. In addition there are waterskis that are hugely entertaining whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro. Another excellent feature are wakeboards so guests can show off at speed. If that isn't enough Azul V also features kayaks, beach games, scooters and snorkelling equipment. When it comes to Tenders, Azul V has you covered - with two tenders, including a 7m/23' RIB.
