More rolls-royce ghost information, rolls-royce ghost.

The Rolls-Royce Ghost is a spectacular luxury saloon that?s absolutely beautiful in design and a real pleasure to get behind the wheel of. Smaller than the Phantom, this car is made to drive rather than be driven in, and is the absolute definition of elegance. Forget spruced up models from other manufacturers; if you really want to push the boat out, the Roller is the one to go for.

Revealed in 2010, the Ghost is indeed smaller and cheaper that it?s older sibling, but is still out of reach for most people. Armed with a massive 6.6 litre twin turbo V12, it?s just awesomely fast, despite weighing close to 2 tonnes. Intelligent suspension and computer aided driving assists make it drive superbly however, and the effortless with which is builds speed is astonishing. Assembled by hand, you can tell a lot of effort has been put into it as luxurious is nowhere near a good enough word.

As with all Rolls-Royce cars, the Ghost is just mesmerising to behold. It looks very sporty thanks to a low roof, a curved front grille and some wonderful lines. The colour schemes are just brilliant, and of course the ?Spirit of Ecstasy? sits proudly on the bonnet. The interior is just astounding and is as lavishly decorated and superbly spacious. A bit more ?modern? than the Phantom, the cockpit is a simple yet amazingly well equipped place to sit, and the rear passengers have enormous amounts of leg room. The rear hinged doors make getting in and out very easy, and the boot is also huge. However small the detail, nothing has been overlooked, and as a result it?s simply a work of art.

The Ghost is a big car, both in size and weight, despite attempts by Rolls to market it as a ?baby?. However it drives superbly and is surprisingly agile thanks to heroic amounts of engineering. Blisteringly fast, the 563 horsepower V12 engine will have you going from 0-60mph in 4.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 155 mph, although it?s electronically limited. The ride is like air, and there?s a phenomenal amount of grip through the corners. The only problem with this car is that you can easily blast past the speed limit without realising it, due to the graceful way it accelerates.

To be honest, unless you?re absolutely loaded there?s no point in looking at the Ghost. It?s monstrously expensive and you?ll still have to spend a small fortune even when buying second hand. For those people with the money to walk the walk though, is certainly the best place to look. Nothing but high quality cars for sale at reduced prices are available, and you can find a used Rolls Royce Ghost with total ease.

So it?s abundantly clear then that the Ghost is a real motoring marvel and redefines standards when it comes to luxury motoring. Stunning to look at, mind altering to drive and majestically decorated inside, there?s really no better way to drive around in opulence. While other brands might be extra special in their own right, none come close to Rolls-Royce. Set yourself apart with a car fit for royalty.

2023 Rolls-Royce Ghost

2023 Rolls-Royce Ghost Black Badge Sedan Exterior

2023 Rolls-Royce Ghost Review

Kurt Niebuhr

  • Luxury only a Rolls-Royce can offer
  • Supple ride at all speeds
  • Ample thrust from 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V12
  • Infinitely customizable
  • Interior doesn't offer quite the space you'd expect of a large car
  • Prohibitively expensive

What's new

  • The Ghost is unchanged for 2023
  • Part of the second Ghost generation introduced for 2021

The 2023 Ghost serves as the entry point into the Rolls-Royce brand. Smaller in size and more contemporary in design than the legendary Phantom, the Ghost is aimed at a younger, though still fabulously wealthy, clientele. The Ghost offers insane levels of craftsmanship and customization possibilities befitting a Rolls-Royce. It can also be had in a more sporting model, the Black Badge version, and is offered with an extended-wheelbase version for increased rear passenger legroom.

Cost to Drive Cost to drive estimates for the 2023 Rolls-Royce Ghost 4dr Sedan AWD (6.7L 12cyl Turbo 8A) and comparison vehicles are based on 15,000 miles per year (with a mix of 55% city and 45% highway driving) and energy estimates of $3.83 per gallon for premium unleaded in North Dakota.

Edmunds' spotlight: luxury and power.

Any fear of the Ghost being anything other than a full-blooded Rolls-Royce should be laid to rest. The 2023 Ghost can be customized to your heart's content (or your bank account's balance) with all manner of paint combinations, an endless array of leather upholstery options, and features including a stainless steel hood, plush wool carpets, wood trim and even monogrammed headrests. The Ghost doesn't skimp on power either. Under the hood is the same 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine as you find in the larger Phantom and Cullinan SUV. That means the Ghost has the same 563 horsepower (592 hp for the Black Badge model) but with less weight to slow it down.

Competitors to consider

The only other vehicle not made by Rolls-Royce that comes close to offering the traditional luxury and extent of personalization as the Ghost is the Bentley Flying Spur. If a more modern interpretation of luxury is what you're after, the BMW 760i and Mercedes-Maybach S-Class are both brimming with technology and offer a slightly more low-key approach to ostentatious luxury.

Which Ghost does Edmunds recommend?

To make the most of the Ghost's smaller size (relative to other Rolls-Royce vehicles) and more dynamic styling, we'd commission ours in the Black Badge specification. That gets you additional power from the twin-turbo V12 as well as carbon composite wheels, blacked-out exterior trim, a sport-tuned suspension and a slightly louder exhaust.

Rolls-Royce Ghost models

Almost every aspect of the Ghost can be built to suit, so customization options are essentially limitless. Standard features include:

Ghost Includes all the trappings you find on most high-end luxury vehicles, including:

  • Rear-wheel steering
  • Adaptive air suspension
  • 21-inch wheels
  • Laser headlights
  • Electronically retracting hood ornament
  • Power-closing doors
  • Parking sensors (alert you to obstacles that may not be visible in front of or behind the vehicle when parking)
  • Full leather upholstery
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Heated and ventilated front seats with massage
  • Laminated glass for extra sound and heat insulation
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Automated parking system (steers into a parking spot with little or no driver intervention)
  • Lane departure warning (alerts you if the vehicle begins to drift out of its lane)
  • Blind-spot warning (alerts you if a vehicle in the next lane over is in your blind spot)
  • Head-up display (displays important information in your sight line on the windshield)

Extended Wheelbase Includes all the standard features of the Ghost but features a longer wheelbase that adds nearly 7 inches of rear legroom.

Black Badge Boosts engine output, sharpens the handling, and changes the look of the standard Ghost with:

  • 21-inch carbon composite wheels
  • Blacked-out exterior trim
  • Sport-tuned suspension
  • Black-painted brake calipers
  • Special carbon-fiber interior trim

Rolls-Royce Ghost vs. Bentley Flying Spur

Between the Rolls-Royce and the Bentley, the Flying Spur is for discerning luxury car owners who would rather drive themselves. Not that the Bentley isn't absolutely dripping in leather and decorated with hand-cut wood veneers, but the Flying Spur offers a more sporty ride and communicative steering than the Rolls. Both look perfect at home outside of a palace.

Rolls-Royce Ghost vs. Mercedes-Benz Maybach

It's not that the Maybach isn't insanely comfortable and beautifully built, but it lacks a certain je nais se quois that the Ghost has in spades. With available two-tone paint, a silky smooth V12 engine and reclining rear seats, the Maybach certainly does check many of the same boxes as the Ghost. The Maybach also offers a better technology interface but it lacks the Ghost's wild levels of customization.

Rolls-Royce Ghost vs. BMW 7 Series

The 7 Series costs about a third as much as the Ghost, but that doesn't mean it's not an extremely comfortable place to spend time. While it lacks the over-the-top luxury that comes standard in the Ghost, the 7 Series is very luxurious in its own right. Filled with modern design cues inside and out, the BMW also offers ventilated and massaging rear seats should you prefer not to do any driving. Sadly, BMW doesn't offer a V12 engine to match the Rolls but the money you save might serve as some consolation.

New Rolls-Royce Ghost 2020

The Rolls-Royce Ghost 2020 – on the road with the brand-new Baby Roller

Eleven years after its launch, the Ghost is now Rolls-Royce’s top-selling car. The new version, built around customer feedback, has been completely reimagined, so that the only components carried over, says the brand, are the badge

If coronavirus has dented the ambitions of British companies, then Rolls-Royce seems to be spearheading the recovery. Sales at the Goodwood-based car manufacturer may be down 30 per cent for the first six months of 2020, but Torsten Muller-Otvos, CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, has said that his company will return a profit by the end of the year.

That achievement would follow 2019, which was already a record-breaking year for the marque, thanks, largely, to the success of the outsized Cullinan SUV – soon to become, judging by initial uptake, Rolls-Royce’s most popular model.

Rolls-Royce is pinning a late 2020 flourish on the all-new Ghost, a second-generation model that the company claims is the result of listening to its customers. The luxury saloon debuted in 2009 and has become the most successful Rolls-Royce ever made.

The new model was scheduled to be launched in Washington, USA, but the pandemic put paid to that. Instead, I’m soaking up the last rays of English summer sun around Goodwood, then driving further west into Hampshire.

rolls royce ghost price in london

Whatever the location, it’s instantly clear that Rolls-Royce hasn’t done things by halves. This second version took no less than six years to develop – ironing out the issues that Ghost owners highlighted with the original model. The overriding aim was to distil the qualities of that car into a simpler, more refined package.

Even so, in Rolls-Royce’s ‘post-opulent’ era, as the company itself has termed 2020, customers are still required to fork out more than a fifth of a million quid for a Ghost, then pay many thousands more for a raft of ‘must have’ extras. Lambswool floor mats and rear privacy curtains? Please sign here .

“The first Ghost was a response to a whole new generation of clients, both in age and attitude,” says Muller-Otvos. “These men and women asked us for a slightly smaller, less ostentatious car.

“These business leaders and entrepreneurs demand more of their Ghost than ever. They require a new type of super-luxury saloon that is dynamic, serenely comfortable and perfect in its minimalism. The Ghost is this product.”

By “ostentatious”, Muller-Otvos is referring to the Ghost’s bigger brother – the Phantom. The most bling Rolls-Royce ever built now looks strangely out of touch in a world struggling with the socio-economic fallout of a pandemic.

The Ghost, then, is the brand’s answer – one that ‘rejects superficial expressions of wealth’, as per a company press release. A luxury saloon that is more in tune with the times, the new model is also the most technologically-advanced Rolls-Royce ever built.

Equipped with a 6.75-litre, twin-turbo V12 engine borrowed from the Cullinan, the Ghost has an incredible turn of speed for a car weighing nearly two-and-a-half tonnes (2,420 kg, to be precise). Driving across the Hampshire countryside near Winchester, the only thing holding it back was the lack of a straight road.

It makes luxury travel at rapid speeds very enjoyable indeed, whether sat up front, or in the back, where many Ghost owners will likely spend most of their time. Still, there’s a muted roar when the accelerator hits the floor and the Ghost can waft forward at a more urgent pace.

There are no paddle gear changers or driving modes to explore here because Rolls-Royce claims that isn’t what Ghost owners want. Instead, the all-wheel steering setup makes the new Ghost extra nimble around town, or more precise and surefooted barrelling into a fast corner.

Despite the dimensions – 5,546 mm long and 2,148 mm wide – the Ghost feels much smaller than it looks. It’s actually 30 mm wider and 89 mm longer than the previous model but behaves much better across uneven surfaces. On a motorway, that means the Rolls is in a different class for comfort.

So good, in fact, that high-rolling backseat passengers can whisper to the driver and still be heard. That’s partly due to 100 kg of soundproofing layered around the car, ensuring the vulgarities of the real world are kept outside.

That acoustic damping has found its way into the roof, between the double-glazed windows – even inside the tyres. When the boot was found to have an unacceptable ‘rumble’ at high speeds, special ports were added under the parcel shelf to ease the problem.

Bizarrely, when testers first drove the new Ghost they decided the cabin was actually too quiet. The effect disorientated passengers and a suitable amount of noise had to be built back in.

rolls royce ghost price in london

Another reason the Ghost drives so well is the extra rigid aluminium spaceframe that underpins everything. It helps the car live up to its name, wafting silently along with poise and an almost ethereal quality.

The unique Planar suspension system offers a double wishbone set-up at the front and multi-link at the rear. Unusually, Planar adds an additional damper at the front which further irons out the bumps and enhances body control.

The system works alongside Rolls’ Flagbearer system, which ingeniously monitors the Hampshire roads ahead. Cameras identify the imperfections in the surface and then feedback information to the suspension in advance. It means the Ghost is not an intimidating car to drive but relaxed and only responsive when required.

According to Rolls, the only components that were carried over from the first Ghost were the famous Spirit of Ecstasy emblem and the umbrellas. Everything else was designed, crafted and engineered from the ground up.

“The result is the most technologically-advanced Rolls-Royce yet,” says Muller-Otvos. “It distils the pillars of our brand into a beautiful, minimalist, yet highly complex product that is perfectly in harmony with our Ghost clients’ needs – perfectly in tune with the times.”

Sat on humungous, 21-inch wheels, the Ghost is an impressive apparition from every angle. There’s a hand-painted line that runs along the shoulder of the car – four craftsmen have hand-welded the body parts together simultaneously to ensure a seamless fit.

The attention to detail is staggering. This is the first Rolls-Royce with doors that can be opened and closed electrically, while the dashboard is refreshingly simple and decluttered. Interior designers still need 20 half hides to deck out the leather panels, while the open-pore wood dashboard can be dotted with an illuminated star-like finish to match the roof lining.

rolls royce ghost price in london

In the back, I’d recommend door curtains to cut out glare and ensure the twin screens embedded in the rear of the front seats are easier to read. The aircraft-style seats are naturally adjustable – fold down the centre armrest and a drinks cabinet also appears, large enough to carry a full-size bottle of champagne.

There’s leg and head room aplenty and although the new Ghost doesn’t appear much changed from the old one on the outside, it feels far more spacious on the inside.

From the tip of the down-lit Pantheon grille to the neatly tapered rear end, the new Ghost is an epic car in every sense. A super-luxury product that carries the most famous motoring badge in the world, it very much suits the moment – carbon emissions, aside. (That big, V12 petrol engine pumps out 347g/km and won’t be popular with Greta Thunberg. Rolls-Royce isn’t planning on introducing an all-electric model any time soon.)

For now, this sublimely engineered chunk of Britishness is a car that pushes the boundaries of luxury transport. If this is ‘post-opulent’ then I’ll take a slice, with or without the lambswool floor mats.

Rolls Royce’s History: When Rolls Met Royce

Sir (Frederick) Henry Royce and motoring and aviation pioneer Charles Rolls formed an unlikely partnership after their first meeting in Manchester on May 4th 1904. They both had very different upbringings, with Rolls coming from a privileged background and Royce working since he was just 9 years old.

The Rolls-Royce Ghost pays homage to Roll-Royce’s first six cylinder vehicle originally named the 40/50 h.p which was later recognised as the Silver Ghost. It was created a year after Charles Rolls and Sir Henry Royce joined forces in 1906, and later hailed as the “best car in the world.”

Ultimate Luxury & Symbol of Success

Since the launch of the Rolls-Royce Ghost at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2009, it has become synonymous with luxury and success and uses advanced engineering and technology. For example, Roll-Royce Ghost’s unique, bi-lingual, multi-media touch system, the Spirit of Ecstasy Rotary Controller (named after the iconic automotive hood ornament) gives you access to all the vehicle’s features at the swipe of a finger, including WiFi, music, file-sharing and video conferencing.

The hand-crafted interior is a masterpiece in its own right, with a stunning hand-stitched leather interior, integrated LED headlights and a twin-turbo 6.6-litre V12 engine.

From dream to production: CAR’s Rolls-Royce Ghost design is built for real

Published: 06 April 2023

From dream to production: CAR’s Rolls-Royce Ghost design is built for real

► We design our own Rolls-Royce Ghost ► Jake acts as a new client… ► …and ‘our’ car is built for real

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, one of the oldest and most luxurious car brands on the planet, is an extremely exclusive club to be a part of.

You don’t design your car or build it on a configurator, it’s commissioned . Your new car isn’t (entirely) screwed together by robots by the thousands, it’s (mostly) hand-built to your exacting specifications at the brand’s Goodwood HQ.

This is your chance to peek behind the veil of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. We’ve had the extremely rare opportunity to see inside its Mayfair showroom, its Goodwood headquarters and even get the chance to build our own car for real. Yes, for real .

Here, we’ll take you through every step of the process only the One Per Cent ever get the opportunity to indulge in. Let’s get started, shall we?

Step one: visit the showroom

rolls royce ghost price in london

Clients will always get the best assistance and experience if they go direct to one of Rolls-Royce’s showrooms. We visited the UK’s flagship in Mayfair – a glitzy affair based on Berkeley Street, which is just a stone’s throw away from the birthplace of Charles Rolls.

As you’d expect, Rolls-Royce has paid incredible attention to detail. Alongside the showroom’s physical placement in London being close to key locations of the brand’s founding fathers, the doors into the building are designed to look like the Pantheon grille.

rolls royce ghost price in london

The brand says the London showroom has taken significant design inspiration from the one in Shanghai. It’s clean, with a lot of white marble used inside and large screens. At the time of our visit, the screens were displaying the brand’s first NFT collaboration and the testing programme of the new, all-electric Spectre due in 2023. As well as show cars available for you to poke around – when we visited, there was a Cullinan, Wraith, Ghost Black Badge and Phantom on display – there’s a ‘speakeasy’ bar area for clients to chill out, a ‘cabinet of curiosities’ that included books, wood veneer cuts and other bits and bobs designed to ‘spark ideas.’

Step two: free your imagination

But if you really want a spark of inspiration, the Rolls-Royce team are there to help cater to any request. Clients can bring in materials, colours, images or their own inspiration to get a feel for the colour palette, upholstery choices and bespoke elements they want in their own car and Rolls-Royce will do its best to incorporate it. Some of Rolls’ models even enable you to design something bespoke. The Phantom, for example, features its own ‘gallery’ that allows clients to commission their own artwork to fit.

rolls royce ghost price in london

CAR drives the Rolls-Royce Cullinan Black Badge

Elliott Trousdale, sales executive at Rolls-Royce London and our guide through the process of building our own car, told us he’s had commissions incorporating all the colours of the Sri Lankan flag, for example. A Cullinan was designed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the United Arab Emirates, which was all white save for a coachline with red and green detailing and a big ’50th’ motif painted onto the bodywork. Elsewhere, car collector Michael Fux has taken delivery of a Cullinan and Dawn in dazzling hues including in his own trademark ‘Fux Fucshia.’

Step three: commission your own car

The main part of the showroom is the atelier room. This is where you get to design your own car, and where clients come for vehicle handovers, where Rolls-Royce gifts the client flowers, a bottle of champagne and an individually commissioned artwork of their new car to take home.

rolls royce ghost price in london

The atelier room is dominated by a large central table allowing clients to pull out paint colour swatches and rolls of leather, and allows clients get up close to details like the brand’s Starlight Headliner. Quotes from the founders are dotted around the walls, and you can even see examples of the Phantom’s ‘gallery’ front panel.

Every one of the cars Rolls-Royce builds is designed to be one-off creations – there’s no such thing as an ‘off the rack’ Roller, even if the brand’s showrooms may have cars in stock to buy instantly, they’re always designed from the ground up.

CAR drives the Rolls-Royce Ghost

The process in the atelier is usually reserved to an initial hour-long appointment, with the ability to return at a time in the future to refine the details. ‘It’s this part, the interior and exterior colours, that takes the most time,’ Elliott tells us; ‘it’ll be 50 minutes out of the hour appointment.’

rolls royce ghost price in london

I chose a Ghost Black Badge, imagining that I’d be the kind of billionaire that would like to drive as well as be driven in my Rolls-Royce in equal parts. Given the slightly sportier nature of the Black Badge branding (a variant that now comprises around 30 per cent of Rolls-Royce’s yearly sales and has a younger average age buyer than Mini) and the implications that the name suggests, certain elements are set in stone. The Pantheon grille and Spirit of Ecstasy, for example, are a darker chrome than your average Ghost, and the wheel design is set to the one you see pictured. Inside, wood veneers are replaced by carbonfibre panelling.

As for the overall colour scheme, I took inspiration from my enormous collection of trainers. Most of them are usually dark in colour (blues, greys, blacks etc) but feature a flash of bright colour (lime green, orange, yellow etc.) for a bit of impact. Splitting the palette in two, the main colour is Black Sapphire (a deep navy blue) topped with Gunmetal (a highly metallic grey). Something that was introduced with the Black Badge variants included the ability to paint details like the brake calipers in a specific colour, too. So, as suggested by Elliott to bring a flash of brightness, the brakes and coachline are in Forge Yellow, a colour Elliott has ‘really come to love’ recently. I like it, too.

Inside, I wanted to continue the tri-colour theme, but flipped the grey and navy blue around so the grey was much more in the forefront. Yellow piping and stitching gives the interior a bit of extra oomph and the black dashboard panel is illuminated

I also couldn’t resist specifying the Starlight Headliner – a real party piece for Rolls-Royce. Elliott tells us it’s as customisable as any other big element, too. ‘With Starlight, you can have your initials marked out, or your signature or a company logo – our clients would send us a design and we’d do it through the factory,’ he says. And you can even have shooting stars included in the design; ‘at the factory, they set tracks through the starlight, and you can set the shooting stars to be blue, green, yellow… and so on.’

Then it gets down to the minutiae. Monogrammed headrest stitching, pressed Spirit of Ecstasy motifs in the doors and customised, illuminated treadplates. I’m told that Rolls-Royce Cars CEO, Torsten Müller-Ötvös, has ‘CEO’ on his plates. ‘I have sold his cars later down the line and we give the option to take those treadplates off or keep them on,’ adds Elliott, ‘because of what it is and the provenance of that car, it makes it massively desirable.’

Mine, with all of the toys and customised details, would set non-existent-wealthy-me back £439,810. ‘Just under £440,000!’ says Elliott, ‘for reference, the car we have in the window is comes in at £427k, so you’ve outdone that! It would be a stunning car, though, we’re big fans of all of those colours.’

Step four: visit Goodwood HQ

rolls royce ghost price in london

Clients can arrange to visit Rolls-Royce’s headquarters in Goodwood any time they like, and they’re usually invited to visit upon the completion of their new car. The brand’s headquarters have been based at Goodwood since its modern-day revival in 2003 and is an impeccably manicured set of buildings, designed to interrupt the local landscape as little as possible. The facility even has its own beehives.

As well as grand pieces of artwork in the foyer, the real attention to detail lies deep within the bowels of the facility. One of Rolls-Royce’s obsessions is with paint; colour is, rather obviously, the first detail that will set any car apart. So, naturally, Rolls-Royce can emulate or create any colour you desire. Tobias Sicheneder, general manager for the exterior surface centre, tells us that Rolls-Royce has around 44,000 base colours to start from, and they can be enhanced with crystals crushed into the paint mix.

rolls royce ghost price in london

Exacting standards within the paint shop ensure absolute purity. There are airlocks between each entrance to the exterior surface centre that have extractor fans and sticky floors; ‘they’re there to pick up the dirt from the soles of our shoes as we walk through – it’s always about keeping the paint shop as clean as possible,’ says Sicheneder. So much so that pretty much all deodorants are banned due to the use of aluminium and silicone in them that are then emitted when workers sweat. ‘Basically, if you wanted to stop this paint shop, bring in a cartridge of silicone,’ Sicheneder laughs. But, really, he’s serious and explains the lengths Rolls-Royce has gone to: ‘we bought every single normal deodorant available in stores and tested them in our lab for paint compatibility. Only one was compatible – Rexona [a.k.a Sure] – not the best in terms of performance or smell, but it’s paint compatible.’

Several layers of paint and clear coat are applied to each car, and coachlines (like the Forge Yellow line on the car we designed) are all hand-done.

Meanwhile, in the assembly hall, it’s remarkably quiet for what is a car factory. We’re not talking library-levels of hush, but the hums and whirs and beeps of machinery are remarkably subdued compared to somewhere that prides itself on much higher levels of automation.

Instead of on a train-like production line, each car is placed on an autonomous rig while it’s being assembled, which allows cars to be switched in and out of the process in case there are any bespoke commissions that need additional or different attention. Each car has a marker for the market it’s destined for, and the aim is for each ‘task’ in the production schedule to be no more than 32 minutes long. Joey Zegerius, client experience manager and our tour guide tells us that the streamlining of platforms benefitted production; ‘with the introduction of Phantom 8 in 2017, we were able integrate two lines of production into one. So even models like Wraith and Dawn, which won’t be with us for much longer, are also manufactured in one place.

‘And for me, the most mind blowing thing is that those rigs also accommodate electric drivetrains. Even with 700kg of extra batteries, the team only need a few minutes and then they can build EV drivetrains on them for Spectre,’ Zegerius adds.

rolls royce ghost price in london

Wood veneers are crafted using thin sheets of rare woods stored in a humid environment (which smells incredible) and bespoke stitching and embossing requirements for upholstery are done by hand. Zegerius even points out that Rolls-Royce installs its seats into the interior moulds before they go in the car to make sure that none of the upholstery materials creak or rub together.

All of this leads up to that final and most exciting part of the experience.

Step five: take delivery of your new Rolls-Royce

While clients can take delivery at their local dealer, or even have their car delivered directly to them, a portion take up Rolls-Royce on their invite to engage in a handover from Goodwood HQ.

Here is where Rolls-Royce surprised us nine months after we initially designed our car, to reveal our design actually made production. The atelier team at the Mayfair studio liked the design so much, it was commissioned to become a show car to be displayed in the window of the illustrious dealer. To say we were surprised was an understatement.

rolls royce ghost price in london

And, as you’d expect, Rolls-Royce built our car to exacting detail. Gunmetal over Black Sapphire, complete with the Forge Yellow brake calipers and double coachline. Inside, the contrasting upholstery blends beautifully, with each material used of exquisite quality. It’s truly fantastic to see Rolls-Royce enjoy our design so much that it built it for real.

Even the Ghost’s exterior designer, Henry Cloke, likes the end result: ‘The transitions between the colours you’ve used are quite subtle – it’s not just black outside, colour inside – you have a subtlety here where you keep noticing more details the more you look, which is really impressive.’

rolls royce ghost price in london

The handover ceremony is just as intimate and exclusive as you’d expect from Rolls-Royce. There’s an entirely separate studio for such an event, complete with your own bar and lounge area, and what feels like all the time you could need to soak in your new purchase. I personally spent far too long ogling at every possible detail of what was entirely my own creation, taking pictures of every angle and getting my mucky fingerprints all over it.

On a personal note, I just want to finish this off with gratitude. Thank you, Rolls-Royce – you’ve made a dorky car enthusiast’s year.

rolls royce ghost price in london

There’s naturally a pang of disappointment that it’s not actually ‘my’ car, but for someone who spends a lot of their spare time on car configurators designing their dream garage, this is the ultimate expression of that reality. Nothing will be able to top this experience (beyond being wealthy enough to commission my own for real).

Wherever that car goes in the future, I’ll always remember that there’s a little bit of ‘me’ in the fleet of Rolls-Royce cars out there in the world, and I feel truly honoured to have been given such a unique experience.

12 Most Expensive Rolls-Royce Cars Of All Time, Ranked

Posted: September 30, 2023 | Last updated: November 6, 2023

Few, if any, other luxury marques command such prestige among the world's richest as Rolls-Royce . The brand's cars are a global symbol of wealth, both old money and new money, often commanding price tags an order of magnitude above what the rest of us could ever justify spending on a car. They're built to accommodate the whims of the most demanding customers, and as a result, they're usually highly personalized to their original buyers.

When it comes to resale, this has a polarizing effect — lesser Rolls-Royce models often depreciate hugely in value since their eye-watering high running costs and custom finishes make them less attractive to used buyers. However, those considered to be the best examples of the brand's output often do the opposite, appreciating in value to figures way beyond what many people could ever expect to earn in their lifetimes.

In recent years, Rolls-Royce has made sure that its wealthiest buyers don't just have to spend their cash on classics either — the most loyal among them get access to the brand's VIP program and, therefore, the chance to commission a custom-made, coach-built car. Whether they're sought-after classics or modern bespoke creations, these 12 Rolls-Royces are among the most expensive ever sold.

Rolls-Royce 40/50 HP Silver Ghost Skiff – $1.12 Million

With any vintage car, there are two key things that collectors always look for: originality and uniqueness. The skiff-bodied Rolls-Royce 40/50 HP sold at a Bonhams auction in 2015 delivered both of those things in spades, being in mostly unrestored condition despite being over 100 years old. This was partly because it spent a significant portion of its existence in Egypt, where the hot, dry climate kept it better preserved. Although it wasn't the company's first model, the 40/50 HP Silver Ghost is considered to be the car that cemented its automaker's reputation as one of the world's finest.

Over 7,800 examples of the 40/50 HP Silver Ghost were produced in total, but it's thought that very few, if any, examples survive with a wooden skiff body. It's not known exactly when the current body was fitted to the car — Bonhams states it's likely to have been somewhere between 1919 and 1923 — but the chassis was first delivered in 1914. After plenty of buyer interest, the car eventually crossed the block at auction for 7.475 million Danish Krone, or roughly $1.12 million.

Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Drophead Coupé Adaptation – $1.14 Million

Rolls-Royces have long been the rides of choice for Hollywood's biggest names, but very few stars have appeared in movies alongside their beloved cars. The Silver Cloud III Drophead Coupé Adaptation auctioned by RM Sotheby's in 2021 can count itself among that elite club, having featured alongside its owner Sophia Loren in 1963's "Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow." Bought new for Loren by her husband, the car served as her personal vehicle alongside its onscreen role and is one of just 25 left-hand drive examples made.

It was originally finished in Steel Blue but was subject to a restoration in 2004 and repainted the much darker shade that it presented with at auction. However, the engine remained original, and it still wore its original license plate. The auction, held in the tiny European principality of Liechtenstein, saw bidding reach 1,045,625 Swiss Francs, around $1.14 million at the time.

Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Piccadilly Roadster – $1.33 Million

The Silver Ghost Piccadilly Roadster sold at Bonhams in 2022 was nearly destroyed so many times that its chassis was nicknamed "The Lucky Dog." The chassis was built in Rolls-Royce's American factory and its bodywork was completed by Merrimac. It was first delivered in 1926, but only a few years into its existence, it had its first set of misfortunes. In 1932, it was stolen in New York but later recovered. Then, the following year, it was involved in a traffic collision but escaped mostly unharmed.

It then remained in New York for several decades before ending up in a parts yard and nearly scrapped. It was saved by a noted Rolls-Royce collector, but its body was then transferred onto the chassis of a Phantom I, where it remained for another few decades. The original chassis and drivetrain were also kept by the collector, then bounced around owners for another few years after he passed in 2003. By 2015, a new owner had managed to buy both the bodywork and the original chassis back from separate owners and set to work reuniting them. The work took years, but finally, the car was put back together as it was originally built and then sold at auction. This most unlikely of survivors eventually fetched $1.325 million.

Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental Berline – $1.76 Million

The Phantom II was already a rare model, with only 1,767 examples built, but the Phantom II Continental Berline sold by Gooding & Company in 2016 is even rarer. In fact, it's believed to be completely unique, being the only Phantom II to be bodied by coachbuilders Figoni et Falaschi. It was built in 1932 and appeared at the prestigious Deauville Concours d'Elegance seven years later, winning the first of its many concours awards.

It was originally commissioned by the Prince of Nepal, who had been exiled from his country at the time. Under its long hood was a 7.7L six-cylinder engine, making 120 horsepower, a highly impressive figure for its day. Although it's one of the most expensive Rolls-Royces ever sold, it didn't actually meet its auction estimate on the day. The hammer went down at $1.76 million, while it was estimated to fetch anywhere between $1.8 million and $2.2 million.

Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental Sports Coupé By Freestone & Webb – $2.42 Million

The original owner of this 1933 one-off coupe, Sir John Leigh, was one of Rolls-Royce's most loyal customers of the era. Like most Rolls-Royces of its era, the chassis and drivetrain were built by the automaker itself, and then the car was sent off to a coachbuilder for bodywork. In this case, that coachbuilder was Freestone & Webb, of which Leigh was also a regular client.

After more than a decade of ownership, the car was sold off so Leigh could purchase a new Phantom III. Over the decades, it changed hands several times and was remarkably purchased twice by new owners who stopped the existing owner at the side of the road and simply asked to buy it there and then. After 80 years of careful owners keeping the car in pristine condition, it appeared at an RM Sotheby's auction in 2013, where it fetched $2.42 million.

Rolls-Royce Phantom IV Limousine Princess Margaret – $2.47 Million

The Phantom IV is the rarest generation of Rolls-Royce's flagship line — only 18 examples were ever produced, all built for royalty or heads of state. The most valuable of those to appear at auction was the personal car of Princess Margaret of the British royal family , with the car fetching 2.255 million Swiss Francs (around $2.47 million) at RM Sotheby's in 2021. Its coachwork was completed by Rolls-Royce's in-house coachbuilder, H.J. Mulliner, and featured several unique modifications made at the request of the Princess.

Electrically operated fabric blinds were fitted for privacy, while a police siren and flagpole were fitted for royal duties. It remained in official service until 1967 when it was sold to a dealer in London. It's unknown exactly why it was sold — most British state cars are kept under royal ownership. Strangely enough, its new private owners hired it out to film shoots and weddings, all while unaware of its previous owner, as the selling dealer had been sworn to secrecy. It was eventually bought by a noted Rolls-Royce collector in 2003 and has been kept in private collections since then, although it's been occasionally shown in that time.

Rolls-Royce 40/50 HP Silver Ghost Pullman Limousine – $2.54 Million

One of the most expensive examples of the 40/50 HP Silver Ghost ever sold at auction, the Pullman Limousine fetched $2.535 million through Gooding & Co. in 2021. Its high price was primarily down to its originality — its upholstery, despite being 111 years old at the time of sale, was all original and had never been restored.

Its bodywork was also original, as was, of course, the chassis and engine. The engine in question was a 7.5-liter six-cylinder making, as the car's name suggests, 50 horsepower. The value collectors place on originality can be clearly seen when comparing a similar car also offered by Gooding & Co. in 2023.

Despite being the same chassis, year, and overall condition, the latter car had been subject to a restoration and so wasn't original. As a result, it was estimated to fetch between $500,000 and $600,000. However, even at just a fifth the value of the all-original car, it failed to attract a high enough bid and didn't sell.

Rolls-Royce 10 HP – $7.04 Million

There are few vintage Rolls-Royces more special than chassis 20154, a 10-horsepower model sold at Bonhams in 2007. It's the oldest known surviving Rolls-Royce and only the fourth ever made. It was displayed at shows in Paris and London to attract customers to the then-fledgling company before being eventually sold to private ownership. It remained in use until 1930 with various owners when it was parked and reportedly used as a movable barrier during wartime to prevent enemy forces from landing in a nearby field.

It was eventually bought and restored in 1950 by Oliver Langton, a well-known motorcycle racer, and remained in his ownership until 1978. From then on, it was kept by another owner until its appearance at the auction. It sold for £3,521,500 (roughly $7.04 million at the time), becoming the most expensive Rolls-Royce 10 HP to ever cross the block in the process.

Rolls-Royce 40/50 HP Silver Ghost Double Pullman Limousine The Corgi – $7.48 Million

The Corgi earned its nickname as it was the car chosen by the makers of the Corgi diecast line to be the model on which its toy cars were based. A 1912 40/50HP Double Pullman Limousine, it was originally bought by a London-based client who already boasted another 40/50 HP in his collection. Its coachwork was completed by Barker, and it's thought to be the only surviving example featuring the coachbuilder's design.

Unlike many other cars of its era, the Corgi was never rebuilt with a different chassis or bodywork, staying in complete form since its inception. Even during a restoration carried out around the turn of the century, it was not disassembled, as its condition was so good that it didn't need to be. The car that shaped millions of toy vehicles commanded a suitably exceptional premium when it sold at Bonhams in 2012, fetching £4,705,500, or around $7.48 million.

Rolls-Royce Sweptail – $12.9 Million

While there may well have been more expensive classic Rolls-Royces sold in private deals, the Corgi remains the most expensive to hit public auctions. However, it's not the most expensive Rolls-Royce ever sold — in fact, the automaker itself has created cars that cost considerably more. One of those cars is the one-off Sweptail , which was built to the wishes of a VIP client. It takes styling inspiration from the great Rolls-Royces of the '20s and '30s and became the first in a line of ultra-exclusive coachbuilt cars when it was finished in 2017.

Almost every element on the car is bespoke, even down to the "O8" license plate, which was milled from solid pieces of aluminum. Rolls-Royce never officially revealed how much the car cost, although reports at the time suggested a price tag of around £10 million (roughly $12.9 million). The brand's CEO refused to confirm this figure to Autocar  but said, "You can easily write [that] this is probably the most expensive new car ever." Of course, that's no longer true, as Rolls-Royce has since unveiled more coachbuilt specials with even more eye-watering price tags.

Rolls-Royce Boat Tail – $28 Million

In a 2021 announcement detailing the official revival of its coachbuilding division, Rolls-Royce also announced its most expensive car up to that point, the Boat Tail. Like the Sweptail before it, it was based on the platform of the Phantom but featured all-new bodywork, a canopy roof, and yacht-inspired design touches. All in all, 1,813 new parts were created for the Boat Tail, with many of those created for the "hosting suite" at the rear, complete with a parasol.

Just developing the rear suite reportedly took nine months, with the whole car taking years to go from idea to reality. Only three examples of the Boat Tail were made, each with heavy input from their respective owners. Alongside the car, owners also got a matching watch designed to compliment the colors and finish of each example. Unsurprisingly, Rolls-Royce didn't disclose a price tag for the car but reports peg its cost close to $30 million.

Rolls-Royce Droptail – $30 Million

Unveiled earlier in 2023, the Droptail is Rolls-Royce's latest and greatest coach-built car , and if reports are anything to go by, the most expensive. Four examples of the car are set to be built, with each one different from the next. Developing it reportedly took four years, with Rolls-Royce working closely with its VIP clients to design a car exactly to their tastes. The first of the four to be revealed, La Rose Noire, sports a custom Audemars Piguet Royal Oak watch valued at $200,000 and a custom mount in the dash in which to place it.

The exterior is finished in a shade called "True Love," which reportedly comprises 150 layers of paint. Unlike previous coachbuilt cars, the Droptail's performance has also been upgraded slightly over the standard Phantom. An extra 30 horsepower has been coaxed out of the twin-turbo V12 engine, although statistics as vulgar as 0–60 mph time or top speed have been left out of the brand's press release. Focusing on performance is missing the point of the car anyway — this is purely about creating something as opulent as possible and heralding a new golden era of Rolls-Royce coachbuilding in the process.

A True Chauffeur Experience

It is well known that Rolls-Royce are the leading luxury car brand in the world. Few other brands have a reputation so synonymous with being the best that people use it as a benchmark to compare the best of the best in other industries i.e. “ they are the Rolls-Royce of cheesemakers ”. It is said that the only brand more recognisable in the world than Rolls-Royce is Coca-Cola showing how great their cars have been throughout their history spanning over a century.

At Luxian of London, we are lucky enough to have driven a wide variety of vehicles over the year (mainly thanks to our Drive My Car service), however, we always seem to agree that the Rolls-Royce Ghost is our favourite.

This comes down to the fact the Ghost has an incredible, buttery smooth ride thanks to its advanced suspension dampening technology and 6.6L V12 engine that surges you from A-to-B without so much as a blip. The interior is lathered in the highest quality materials, from the super high-grade leather, the milled aluminium switches and the lambswool carpeting that remind you, you are in the best of the best.

The Perfect Rolls-Royce for All

The Luxian of London Rolls-Royce Ghost is ideal for every occasion. Whether you are flying out for business from London City Airport or looking for your perfect wedding car, our Ghost is uniquely ideal for every situation.

The pearlescent maroon paintwork really sets this Ghost apart from the rest. Although it may be hard to tell in some pictures, when you walk past the Ghost you realise the colour reflects and changes with the light; featuring shades of maroon, black, purple and subtle flecks of metallic gold and silver. This combined with the two-tone matte black bonnet and boot makes this car a true head turner. The 22-inch alloy wheels with their permanently upright Rolls-Royce centre caps offset the dark paintwork perfectly.

The custom black leather interior with white piping really is a place you must experience to understand. Not only is it exquisitely comfortable, but it has been shown to reduce stress levels of its occupants.

The cabin is extremely spacious with plenty of room so you can sit in comfort all journey long. Bride’s need not worry about space either, there is plenty of room to accommodate your beautiful wedding dress.

A Little History of Rolls-Royce

Rolls-Royce was founded in 1904 by Charles Rolls and Henry Royce who quickly grew the business to become the leading manufacturer of motor vehicles in the world. Since then the business has been acquired by BMW in 1998 who have kept the essence of the British brand and principles of luxury, but also bought the brand in to the 21 st century.

The in-car entertainment system built into the Rolls-Royce Ghost is one of the best in the world. A simple and easy-to-use system allows both the driver and passengers to control the multimedia systems and navigation as well as a myriad of other options built into the vehicles.

With Bluetooth compatibility and Digital TV built into rear entertainment, it is one of the best cars to be chauffeured in, if we do say so ourselves.

Tackling the myths holding back your pension planning

Here are the common misconceptions with real impact on savings and investments

‘Ghost strike’ will still take a toll on London business

You could almost hear the collective sigh of relief wafting around London on Sunday afternoon when the threatened week-long Tube strike was called off with minutes to spare.

Not least at Arsenal’s Emirates football stadium where 60,000 fans were wondering whether they would be able to get home after the FA Cup clash with Liverpool. A full five days of disruption would have bought untold disruption to the first full working week of the year and represented a real kick in the teeth for crucial sectors such as hospitality and retail.

The potential loss of output across London was estimated at around £380 million by Panmure Gordon’s chief economist Simon French. And while it is unquestionably a good thing that the walkout has been averted, that is not the whole story. Across the capital, economic activity will be more muted this week, because of the meetings that had already been cancelled or rearranged, restaurant bookings that have been canned, and higher than usual levels of working from home by commuters who had changed their plans.

The hospitality sector is particularly exposed to this “ghost strike” impact. Restaurateurs tell me that cancellation levels before the strike was scrapped were close to 100%. Some of that will now come back, but certainly not all. It’s a tough business making a buck from the dining game at the best of times, and this kind of setback just does not help.

There is now an understandable level of cynicism about the unions’ tactics. By talking tough about stoppages they bring an unavoidable level of economic damage whether or not they go ahead.

By calling them off at the last minute their members do not lose a single penny of pay.

This seemingly endless round of disputes and industrial action is now in its third year, with no sign of resolution despite Sunday’s stay of execution.

At a time when London’s economy needs more than ever to be firing on all cylinders this corrosive brinkmanship needs to be brought to an end.

Select a year

  • Lows King's ransom starting price, outward visibility is compromised by thick roof pillars, floppy-feeling brake pedal.
  • Verdict It might be the entry point to the Rolls-Royce brand, but the Ghost doesn't deliver an entry-level experience.

What's New for 2022?

The Ghost welcomes a Black Badge variant for the 2022 model year, which sports darkened exterior trimmings, hand-polished and high-gloss paintwork, black wood interior trim, a slightly more powerful 592-hp version of the 6.7-liter V-12 engine, and more. The Black Badge is highly customizable, like all Rolls-Royce models, but its exclusivity means it commands a much higher starting price than the standard model.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The price of the 2022 Rolls-Royce Ghost starts at $398,850 and goes up to $442,700 depending on the trim and options.

Despite being the entry-level model, the Ghost will still be out of reach of most new-car buyers. The list of standard and optional equipment is extremely long, but Rolls-Royce offers a seemingly endless list of additional features and customizations, the only question is how much you're willing to spend.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The Ghost is powered by 563-hp 6.7-liter V-12 that is shared with the Cullinan SUV; Black Badge models get a boost in power to 592 hp. An eight-speed automatic handles shifting duties, and all-wheel drive is standard. According to Rolls-Royce, the Ghost is capable of hitting 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds, and we're looking forward to verifying that claim at our test track. Rolls-Royce also boasts that the new Ghost offers a sharper driving demeanor than the last model, pointing to the all-wheel-steering system and 50/50 weight distribution as evidence that driving satisfaction played a significant role in the car's development. The Ghost provides a peerless ride thanks to its standard adaptive suspension that employs a road-scanning camera to help the vehicle anticipate and compensate for potholes.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The EPA estimates that the Ghost will return 12 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. Once we get a chance, we'll put the Ghost through our 75-mph highway fuel-economy test and update this story with results. For more information about the Ghost's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website .

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

Like the cabin of any Rolls-Royce, the new Ghost is opulent inside, with every surface, knob, switch, and lever crafted from quality materials. Trying to stand out from competitors like the Bentley Flying Spur and the Mercedes-Benz S-class , Rolls-Royce has pulled out all the stops. Think thick carpet, finely grained leather, real wood and metal accents, and even an available headliner with tiny integrated LEDs to simulate a starlit sky. An illuminated dashboard inlay glows when the driver turns on the Ghost, adding to the starry-night ambiance. The best seat in the house is in the rear, where passengers are treated to such luxuries as massaging seats, an entertainment system, and acres of legroom.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Along with providing a Wi-Fi hotspot, the Ghost features a large infotainment touchscreen with in-dash navigation. It also includes both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto interfaces. A dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system allows passengers to adjust the radio, input destinations into the nav, and more. Rolls-Royce also supplies an 18-speaker Bespoke stereo system with 1300 watts of power and magnesium-ceramic speaker cones.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Rolls-Royce offers a host of driver-assistance features as standard on the Ghost, including adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist. For more information about the Ghost's crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ( NHTSA ) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety ( IIHS ) websites. Key safety features include:

  • Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
  • Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
  • Standard adaptive cruise control

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Like the rest of the Rolls-Royce lineup, the Ghost comes with a four-year warranty and maintenance package, which doesn't expire at a certain mileage limit.

  • Limited warranty covers four years or unlimited miles
  • Powertrain warranty covers four years or unlimited miles
  • Complimentary maintenance is covered for four years or unlimited miles
