Service was good but disappointed at the route they took which didn't go near Belle isle, skimmed Canada to the ambassador bridge then turned around. Previous tours went to the opening of lake st Clair then past the ambassador bridge. The prices have not gone down but the amount of time on the boat has.
This was a really fun experience. For work, I rented the smaller boat for about 50 people and it was a blast. Open bar, BBQ chicken dinner, great views on the Detroit River. We had a 2 hour ride. I think it cost about $5,000 with the bar. This package was very reasonably priced. The views are beautiful; I really liked seeing the riverside so close-up on both sides. It was a beautiful sunny day with great photo ops! The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the quality of the food. Basic, GFS picnic food; nothing homemade. If I book again, I'd pay to bring in my own catering. This was a family event which included kids, so we had boneless BBQ chicken breasts, burgers, hot dogs, au gratin potatoes, green beans and salad. Basic. I was happy because I was drinking. Sometimes a greasy GFS burger is all you need. Even just the public tour would be fun because Atwater Brewery is right across the street.
Had company in from out of town and decided to take a ride on the Diamond Jack on a beautiful, sunny day! For the best seating, be sure to get to the dock early since it is first come, first served. Boat rides are an hour in length. The boats disembark at the foot of Cullen (formerly Rivard) Plaza. Snacks and drinks are sold on board.
Ambassador Bridge from the Diamond Jack Riverboat.
After driving around aimlessly looking for some basketball courts with good ballin' to no avail and being exhausted as a result, I looked up boat rides and came across this tour company. I looked them up, saw a time slot for 2:30pm, and made my way there. Parking was no issue as I parked for free a short walk away. There was a long line, but I was still able to get on. Cost was $20. Lower level had some snacks while upper level was open and had great views. Although it was a little hard to hear the tour guide speak as his voice came through the speakers a little muffled, I still got to learn a great deal about the history of the area and the various landmarks. In addition, it was so relaxing to just sit in my chair on the boat, kick back, and enjoy the awesome views all while it was in the 70s, not to mention take some excellent pictures. Boat ride was an hour which I felt was the perfect amount of time to be out. It was long enough that I could relax but short enough that I had enough time to do other things that day. Last paragraph here is just to say that I had this review rated at 4 stars due to the issues with the speakers, but I was still able to hear most of what the tour guide was saying, plus just being on the boat and taking in the views to me easily made it worth the $20 bucks spent.
The Diamond Jack provides a very nice and long cruise on the Detroit River! For $20 per adult, you get a comfortable two hour boat ride with lots of scenic views of Detroit, Belle Isle, and Windsor, Ontario, and a lot of interesting fun facts about all of the sights. There's also restrooms, concessions, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages available on the boat as well to make your cruise more enjoyable. I really enjoyed my time aboard, but as much as i love boats two hours was a bit long. At the 1.5 hour mark i was ready to dock, and i think i wasn't the only one. However, i am never disappointed about getting my money's worth, which i indeed did.
Detroit Skyline from the boat
My wife took an afternoon tour along the Detroit River for Father's Day. It was a very hot Sunday, so the idea of being on the water was appealing. We parked near the dock location on the street for free which was a bonus. A short walk down to the Riverfront and we were in line awaiting our turn to board. $20 each and we were on our way. No reservations necessary. They offered a limited bar and soft drinks plus snacks on the lower level. Up top was a spectacular view of the Detroit River, Windsor, Canada and Lake St. Claire. The tour lasted around 90 minutes and was very informative. Got to see a lot of landmarks and learn about their history. This is a great idea to visit downtown Detroit with a few friends who haven't been there lately. Follow it up with dinner in town and you have a great, affordable day in the city!

After using Diamond Jack's boat excursions several times over the years , departing from both locations things have drastically changed . Taking the boat tour this past Saturday , I could not help but notice the ride has been cut in half ! In my opinion the best part of the "old" boat tour/ride is gone. No more ride around Belle isle or even touring the Canadian side . Also the price has increased a fair amount . Like most everything the quality of the ride is less but the price is more . I was extremely disappointed , if it's your first time riding maybe it wont matter because you dont know what's missed . Being a long time patron , I will not be back . If it's a economic issue raise the price a little more or offer fewer trips to get full capacity on scheduled trips , but give a more timely excursion .
This was a wonderful find on a beautiful summer day. Boat ride explaining the history of detroit and canada as well. Very nicely maintained vessel with an awesome crew.
Speakers were not working on the boat. No mention was made of this. I approached two people about the issue and nothing was done to remedy the situation.

Hello Craig, we're sorry about your experience. We appreciate you letting staff know about the situation, but unfortunately, we cannot do anything about the speakers once the boat has left the dock due to safety reasons. We have since repaired the speakers and hope you join us again to enjoy a Diamond Jack tour.
This was a fun couple of hours. Be aware you can't purchase tickets on the website or anywhere beforehand, you just come and wait in line and buy them as you're getting on the boat. (I couldn't find that particular information anywhere on the website, so I chatted online with an agent to find that out.) The trip itself is fun, I especially liked getting to see what's on the Canada side of the river a bit, but the narration is a little lacking. I don't necessarily need a constant stream of talk but there were big sections of quiet where my husband or I would say, "I wonder what that is?" All in all though, it was a pleasant and relaxing thing to do.

'It’s horrific': Driver in deadly Swan Boat Club crash breaks her silence
BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — The driver in the deadly Swan Boat Club crash, Marshella Chidester, sat down exclusively with 7 News Detroit to share what happened from her point of view after she ran her car into a children’s birthday party in April. She says there are two sides to every story and wanted to speak publicly about the incident for the first time.
Chidester, 66, says she’s disturbed by the incident, has been praying for the victims and claims it was all one big accident caused by her plethora of medical conditions.
“I just want people to know how very, very disturbed I am by the situation. I don’t remember what happened. I can only say that I’ve been praying for everyone that’s been injured,” Chidester told us at her home, which is just feet from the boat club.
Hear more from Chidester in the video player below:
On April 20, prosecutors claim Chidester was under the influence of alcohol and drove her car into the boat club, killing two siblings , 4-year-old Zayn and 8-year-old Alanah Phillips. Over a dozen others were injured.
Chidester is charged with multiple charges including second-degree murder and operating under the influence causing death.
She refutes the charges and claims the entire incident was one horrible medical episode gone wrong.
“I would never ever do anything intentional — never. I mean, that’s just not me, especially to a boat club that I love so much, and I have family and friends there,” Chidester said.
Chidester, who is an Army veteran, is a longtime member of the club and even had her wedding there.
She claims she doesn’t remember anything that led to the crash due to her neuropathy and heart problems. She also says she has a history of seizures and her memory goes out during her episodes, which is what she says believes happened that day. She hadn't driven after her latest seizure in October. After six months seizure-free she felt comfortable getting behind the wheel when she believes it happened again April 20.
“I think I had a seizure,” Chidester said. “I think when I got in the car, that’s what happened — had the seizure, put my foot on the accelerator and into the building.”
Chidester talks more about the medical conditions in the video player below:
The prosecution disagrees and made that clear in her arraignment a few weeks back.
“There was a preliminary breath test done, which indicated that her blood alcohol level was significantly over the legal limit,” prosecuting attorney Jeffery Yorkey said during Chidester’s arraignment.
VIDEO: Zayn and Alanah Phillips' aunt speaks at Chidester's arraignment
We reached out to the Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough to get Chidester's toxicology reports, but were told nothing related to the case is being released at this time.
Chidester told us she has a perfect driving record.
“I don’t even have a parking ticket. I don’t have any kind of DUI or speeding ticket. I was just devastated,” she said.
Chidester's attorney, Bill Colovos, said that she wouldn't answer any questions about her alcohol use or what led up to her getting in her car that day because she cannot speak to things she does not remember.
Colovos explains why he stopped Chidester from answering questions about alcohol in the video below:
"She has no memory and I don't want her, my client, or anyone to testify or to make statements based on what other people have told her," Colovos said.
Chidester posted her $1.5 million bond three weeks ago and remains at her home with an ankle monitor.
That is a point the families of the victims are heartbroken about as they continue to grieve the situation.

“Has the severity sunk in of those two children losing their lives?” we asked Chidester.
“Oh gosh, yes. I pray for them every day. I can’t imagine. It’s horrific. And what’s even more horrific for me is I wake up every day and I can’t remember," she responded through tears.
Chidester is due back in court in June 27 for a preliminary exam, where a judge will decide if there’s enough evidence for her to stand trial.

Freighter freed after running aground in Detroit: Photos show ship stuck along US-Canada border
DETROIT − A freighter longer than two football fields and carrying 21 tons of salt was freed Wednesday afternoon, several hours after running aground in the Detroit River near an island along the U.S.-Canada border.
The ship, the MV Mark W. Barker , ran aground not far from Belle Isle , a small island in between Detroit and Windsor, Canada, the U.S. Coast Guard's Detroit sector said. No injuries, pollution or damage was immediately reported.
"Working with the United States Coast Guard and with the assistance of a tug, the vessel was able back away from the bank and get underway," the ship's owner said at about 12:45 p.m., in statement it emailed to the Detroit Free Press, part of the USA TODAY Network. "The crew will continue to assess the vessel and work to determine the cause of the incident."
The river remained open to all boat traffic Wednesday morning and did not block boat traffic, the Coast Guard said.
A live stream appeared to show the MV Mark W. Barker being hauled away from a grassy area with a dock.
How did the ship get stuck?
"The cause of how it ran aground is still being determined," Coast Guard Lt. Cameo Ulbricht told the Detroit Free Press, part of the USA TODAY Network.
What to know about the MV Mark W. Barker, ship stuck in Detroit River
The MV Mark W. Barker, a 639-foot freighter built starting in August 2019 , is the first large bulk carrier built on the Great Lakes and the first for use on the Great Lakes since 1981.
The ship, named after the company's current president, went on its first journey in July 2022, the USA TODAY Network's Detroit Free Press reported in September.

My point is that "everyone designs their own" v "symbols are assigned by some completely external body" is a false dichotomy, and a weird thing to focus on when the biggest difference between the two is actually that there is a national body influencing things - it's a lot more systematic than about how much individual cities or oblasts care about these things.
