Lil Yachty makes it look easy. An Atlanta-raised rapper with a sleepy flow and a bright, almost childlike outlook, Yachty (born Miles Parks McCollum in 1997) rose to prominence in 2016 with a pair of mixtapes (Lil Boat and Summer Songs 2) that recast the booming caverns of 2010s rap as something soft, sweet, intuitive, and a little goofy—a sound Yachty once called “bubblegum trap.” Dozens of features and guest appearances followed, including cosigns from Kanye, Chance the Rapper, Calvin Harris, and Macklemore. In 2017, he released his first full-length album, Teenage Emotions. His second, 2018’s Lil Boat 2, took a harder, darker turn but retained the clarity that made his early music stand out. Like Lil Uzi Vert (or Young Thug before him), Yachty represents a turn away from the conventional metrics of rap, favoring slogans over bars, hooks over metaphors, fluidity over stricture, and vibe above all. (He famously—or infamously, depending on your stance toward tradition—once told Billboard that he couldn’t name five songs by either 2Pac or Biggie.) But he’s also emblematic of a broader shift from understanding rap music as an end in itself to seeing it as an extension of the person who made it, a facet of a bigger image or experience. No wonder he FaceTimes with fans, or started his career primarily as a presence on Instagram—for him, the project is social. Still, it wouldn’t make a difference if the music itself weren’t striking—and if he weren’t so casual about it too. Speaking to Beats 1’s Zane Lowe shortly before releasing Teenage Emotions, Yachty—guileless and ever-intuitive—said, “I didn’t know [my sound] was different. I didn’t know until it took off. Then I was like, ‘Well, I don’t sound like nobody else.’” He paused. “I don’t even know if that’s a good or a bad thing. But it’s a thing. It’s a thing.”

Rapper Lil Yachty - born Miles McCollum in Mableton, Georgia on August 23, 1997 - started his career in 2015 after moving to New York City. Shortly after his relocation, a comedy clip that used his song "One Night" went viral and his reputation began to grow through social media. As well as releasing mixtapes, he also pursued a modeling career working with rapper and fashion designer Kanye West. Lil Yachty's debut album Teenage Emotions was released in 2017 and contained a somewhat chaotic selection of 21 tracks, each using a different producer. McCollum's rap style falls outside hardcore rap conventions and presents a catchier, pop-orientated style to the record-buying public using samples from sources such as Charlie Brown, Mario Bros., and even the theme from the children's television show Rugrats . Later that year, Lil Yachty kicked off his Birthday Mix EP series, followed by the albums Lil Boat 2 and Nuthin' to Prove in 2018. Featuring cameos by Drake, Lil Keed, Young Thug, and Future, among others, his fourth studio album Lil Boat 3 saw the light in 2020, with a deluxe edition titled Lil Boat 3.5 hitting retail a few months later. Michigan Boy Boat, Lil Yachty's tribute to the Detroit rap scene, appeared in 2021. Eight years into his rapping career, Lil Yachty scored his biggest hit on the pop charts after "One Night" with the infectious "Poland," which went viral on social media and reached Number 40 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2023, Lil Yachty released the album Let’s Start Here , which was an experimental musical detour that embraced psychedelic music. The album featured production from SadPony, Patrick Wimberly, Jam City, Magdalena Bay, Baby K, and others. Lil Yachty has been nominated for many awards over the course of his career including nods from the Grammy Awards, the MTV Video Music Awards, the Billboard Music Awards, the MTV Europe Music Awards, and others.

Lil Yachty Stars In A New McDonald’s Commercial Performing A Remix Of The Classic ‘Menu Song’

Life is funny sometimes. Occasionally, you’ll have full circle moments where you end up seemingly right back where you started, but with a fresh perspective and occasionally, a new role.

That’s what happened for Lil Yachty . The Atlanta rap star got his start as self-styled “ king of the teens ” after leaving his job working at McDonald’s. Now, he’s back on ol’ Ronald’s payroll, except this time, it’s as a celebrity endorser, appearing in a new TV commercial, doing what he does best. In a fun twist, the song he’s performing is also redux; Yachty runs off his favorite menu items in a remix of the chain’s 1988 “Menu Song,” which appeared in its ads nearly a decade before Yachty was even born. It’s surprisingly catchy — but maybe not that surprisingly, since it’s Lil Yachty using his “Minnesota”/”Poland” flow. He even throws in a little bit of his fellow rapper Pusha T’s Golden Arches jingle at the end.

McDonald’s has had some great luck partnering with rappers over the past few years. Aside from the aforementioned Pusha T-penned jingle, the chain has teamed up with Travis Scott, Saweetie, Cardi B, and Offset to share themed meals that have brought in plenty of revenue for the brand — and for the participating artists. Lil Yachty is a perfect addition to that tradition. Now, if only he could get that Uno movie back into production.

Lil Boat adds to his list of lucrative partnerships while teaming up with McDonald’s Canada on Tuesday (April 2) for the launch of their Remix Menu.

“Going from working at a McDonald’s in Atlanta to collaborating on the ‘Remix Menu Song’ with McDonald’s Canada is a wild full circle moment that brought back memories and is such a reminder that anything in life can happen,” Boat said in a statement about the partnership.

From now until April 29, participating McDonald’s locations across Canada will have the new Remix Menu available to customers. Some of the items include wild combinations such as the Chicken Cheeseburger, Surf ‘N Turf Burger, Sweet Chilli Junior Chicken and the tasty Apple Pie McFlurry.

“We hope these new takes on the McDonald’s Menu Song, brought to life by Lil Yachty and Mike Clay, will evoke the excitement Canadians felt for McDonald’s the first time they heard the song, and look forward to introducing it to a new generation of fans,” said McDonald’s chief marketing officer Alyssa Buetikofer.

Lil Yachty Partners With McDonald's Canada For "Menu Song (Remix)"

Ever since McDonald’s launched the Travis Scott Meal in 2020, it’s become a common trend for celebrities and musicians to partner with fast-food chains. In 2021, Saweetie teamed up with Mickey D’s for her own menu edit, with Offset and Cardi B following suit in 2023.

Today (April 2), Lil Yachty and the food giant united for their “Menu Song (Remix).” The pair gave the 1989 classic tune a modern update alongside an accompanying 90-second clip. In the video, the “Strike (Holster)” hitmaker could be seen rapping his order to a cashier.

“Going from working at a McDonald’s in Atlanta to collaborating on the ‘Menu Song (Remix)’ with McDonald’s Canada is a wild, full-circle moment that brought back memories and is such a reminder that anything in life can happen,” Yachty shared in a press statement .

McDonald’s Canada CMO Alyssa Buetikofer added, “We hope these new takes on the McDonald’s Menu Song, brought to life by Lil Yachty and Mike Clay, will evoke the excitement Canadians felt for McDonald’s the first time they heard the song, and look forward to introducing it to a new generation of fans. It’s also a celebration of the love Canadians have for our iconic menu items.”

While artists like Scott and Saweetie arguably take the cake when it comes to brand partnerships, Yachty also has a long list of collaborations. He previously worked with Reese’s Puffs and Reebok. Additionally, the QC rapper joined forces with Nautica for his own collection in 2017.

Musically, 2024 is expected to be a big year for Yachty. In February, he and producer James Blake announced their joint project, Bad Cameo . The first-mentioned musician is also slated to perform at the Dreamville Festival in Raleigh, North Carolina on Saturday (April 6). His other scheduled shows include Milwaukee’s Summerfest, which is headlined by Lil Uzi Vert.

Lil Yachty Remixes ‘Menu Song’ For McDonald’s Canada Commercial

'Going from working at a McDonald's in Atlanta to collaborating on the Remix Menu Song with McDonald's Canada is a wild full circle moment'

McDonald’s released a commercial (video below) in 1989 that included the “Menu Song,” which fans of the restaurant recited often.

Now, hip-hop recording artist  Lil Yachty has touched up the song to remix it and update the menu items for a new McDonald’s Canada ad released on April 2.

The original promotion was a 30-second ad on television when it debuted. It featured a McDonald ‘s customer ordering all the menu items of the restaurant in song. Now, the song has been extended to a full minute and 30 seconds, and the Georgia-bred rapper has contributed his version of the song. He also orders at Mickey D’s but extends the song by adding several more verses.

Before Yachty achieved a career in the music industry, the man born Miles Parks McCollum was once a McDonald’s worker.

“Going from working at a McDonald’s in Atlanta to collaborating on the Remix Menu Song with McDonald’s Canada is a wild full circle moment that brought back memories and is such a reminder that anything in life can happen,” Yachty said in a written statement.

Now, until April 29, fans of the restaurant in Canada can go to their local McDonald’s to select items from the Remix Menu as they rap along to the updated Lil Yachty version.

• Chicken Cheeseburger: A combo of two classics featuring a crispy chicken patty made with Canadian-raised seasoned chicken AND a juicy 100% Canadian beef patty, all topped with a slice of melty processed cheddar cheese, a tangy pickle, onions, ketchup, and mustard on a toasty bun.
• Surf ‘N Turf Burger: Made with two juicy 100% Canadian beef patties AND a crispy, flaky Filet-O-Fish® patty made with 100% Alaska Pollock, it’s also topped with two slices of melty processed cheddar cheese, tangy pickles, onions, ketchup and mustard on a toasty bun.
• Sweet Chili Junior Chicken: Made with Canadian-raised crispy seasoned chicken topped with crunchy shredded lettuce, tangy sweet chili Thai sauce and mayo-style sauce, all on a toasty bun.
• Apple Pie McFlurry®: Cool, soft vanilla serve swirled together with tasty caramel sauce and pieces of Baked Apple Pie.

The Remix Menu is available for a limited time only at participating restaurants, through the McDonald’s app, at the Drive-Thru, or via McDelivery.
