NEW MAGELLANO 30 METRI

yacht panfilo 30 metri

AZIMUT YACHTS LAUNCHES THE NEW MAGELLANO 30 METRI: the crossover line flagship is born.

NEW MAGELLANO 30 METRI – Launched in Viareggio, the first Magellano 30 Metri is the ultimate expression of Azimut Yacht’s pioneering spirit . The new flagship is designed for the experienced owner and connoisseur who plans to enjoy long-distance voyages , whatever the weather conditions and in a constant dialogue with the sea. The Magellano 30 Metri takes this desire for freedom and expresses it in the form of unprecedented seakeeping and a design that offers a view of both the sky and the sea from every point on the yacht. The intimate relationship with nature is also respected in sustainability-related choices that aim to reduce the yacht’s environmental impact.

The Magellano Collection is the Azimut Yachts line for yachtsmen who have a predilection for long cruises: Magellano is always smooth and safe at sea, with low fuel consumption and a wide range of speeds. The interiors too are designed for long stays on board. The new flagship is the perfect fit for the brand’s crossover line , reprising features such as generous volumes and a desire to amaze in different sea conditions, without however compromising on elegance and attention to detail. This result has been achieved thanks to the collaboration of the winning team that proved itself with the previous model (Magellano 25 Metri): Ken Freivokh , who handled the exterior styling and volumes, and Vincenzo De Cotiis , who designed the interiors. Freivokh has created refined and modern but in no way aggressive lines that catch the eye of expert yachtsmen, also from the world of sailing yachts. Unexpectedly striking, the teak louvres that close and complement the extensive glazed surfaces in the superstructure are a signature feature of the Magellano line. In keeping with its calling as a crossover, the new 30-metre yacht offers spacious, light-filled interiors that De Cotiis has successfully made intimate and inviting.

Freivokh and De Cotiis have designed the three decks of the new Magellano by breathing life into their shared vision of a yacht in seamless contact with the sea , from the Infinity Terrace that welcomes guests on board, to the generous terrace on the Upper Deck for socialising and enjoying the pleasure of cruising in the open air. The huge windows – over 70 square metres of glazed surfaces – also ensure uninterrupted visual continuity between the interior spaces and the surrounding natural environment, which has a metaphorical presence in every setting on the yacht, from the full-beam Owner Suite and the living space on the Main Deck to the gracious Skylounge on the Upper Deck.

Sustainability

The innovative thrust of the Magellano 30 Metri is also expressed in the choices made to reduce environmental impact. The second-generation Dual Mode hull , designed by naval architecture firm P.L.A.N.A. on a joint basis with the Azimut Yachts R&D centre, ensures an excellent level of stability, keeping fuel consumption down both at midrange speeds – even in rough seas, delivering on the promise of cruising in freedom in any conditions – as well as at higher speeds , reducing consumption in this case by about 15% compared with traditional hard chine planing hulls.

The new Magellano line flagship establishes a truly harmonious human relationship with the water, even and especially during periods spent at anchor: the Magellano 30 Metri is designed to be fitted with the Hotel Mode package, which includes 100kWh lithium batteries so that she can stay at anchor with zero emissions for up to 4 hours during the day and 8 hours at night. The result is total silence broken only by the sound of the sea.

Benetti’s New Motopanfilo 37M Is Built with History in Mind

  • By Diane M. Byrne
  • August 5, 2022

Every few years in design—be it for fashion or home decor—a trend comes back in a renewed way. Last year, for example, a number of designers embraced the bright color bombs from the 1990s to draw more attention to walls, railings, kitchen cabinetry—you name it. Other designers channeled the 1960s and 1970s in everything from album art to area rugs.

These fun, funky, even psychedelic styles were a far cry from the minimalist, geometric simplicity that became trendy about five years ago. The throwbacks weren’t bold for bold’s sake or retro for retro’s sake, either. Rather, visual distinctiveness was the order of the day.

Benetti has been thinking about this concept since 2020. The shipyard wanted to create a yacht that hearkened back to some of its deliveries from the 1960s and 1970s, in terms of exterior styling and interior design. However, the yacht also needed to appeal to today’s cruisers, who expect amenities that didn’t exist 50 years ago.

The result is the Benetti Motopanfilo 37M.

“It’s not nostalgic,” says Carl Pickering of Lazzarini Pickering Architetti, the design studio responsible for the interior. “We wanted to return to a more nautical language.”

Pickering and his business partner, Claudio Lazzarini, felt it was crucial that this yacht look like a yacht and not a floating home. So did Benetti and exterior stylist Francesco Struglia. The nearly 122-foot Motopanfilo (pronounced “moh-toh-pan-fee-loh”) 37M appears much more linear compared with modern mega-yachts, much the way recreational craft did five decades ago. Ribbons of bronze paint rim the after bulwarks, further outlining the upper-deck overhang. Struglia wanted to capture the essence of classic wood cap rails.

He also captured the essence of classically rounded transoms with a slightly curved design. It’s a look that went by the wayside when designers began incorporating integral swim platforms, which have only gotten wider and deeper in recent years. The Motopanfilo 37M does have a beach club, thanks to the fold-down transom. Because the yacht is semicustom, the beach club can include whatever clients wish. The owners of Hull No. 1, Koju, chose a hidden sink and a removable, hooded sunshade, the latter designed by Lazzarini Pickering.

Also at the waterline, the yacht has a modern-day must: a tender garage. It’s a side-launching area, capable of holding PWC and a traditional tender.

The strongest connection between the nautical past and present, however, comes inside. Gone are the primarily lacquered surfaces that, in recent years, relegated wood to soles. Gone too are the grays and other muted tones of surfaces and soft goods, as well as austerely shaped furnishings and accessories. As Pickering says, these seemed to step straight out of a home in Architectural Digest, not really the essence of a yacht. Instead, the owners of Koju embraced Lazzarini Pickering’s initial concept of pale, matte-finished wood underfoot and overhead.

Koju also has a series of striking arches, meant to mimic a whale’s ribs. The arches, in white lacquer with swaths of pale oak between them overhead, flow forward through the salon and dining area. The walls of the four guest staterooms belowdecks follow suit; their arches are wood, and the spaces between are lacquered. The walls also follow the natural shape of the hull, eschewing the common practice of squaring everything off and making it more residential-like.

“The luxury in a boat is in space—real or perceived,” Pickering says. The sense of space amid the 25-foot-3-inch beam is palpable, thanks to those ribs and shapes. It also helps that the yacht has large ports in keeping with current trends, as well as crisp white furnishings and accessories, with navy blues for extra nautical measure. The whalebone elements are practical as well: They serve as art niches in some areas and stowage in others, and they further hide the trunks for the air conditioning.

“Practical” is a good description for the overall ambience on board Koju. The curved, sliding glass doors between the salon and main deck aft can remain open all day long for owners or guests. Lazzarini Pickering recommended that the white and blue fabrics it designed for the inside also be used outside—and be able to hold up to salty swimmers.

Because as much as some things change, they also remain the same.

The Name Game

In Italian, moto panfilo means “motoryacht.” The term became associated decades ago with the large craft enjoyed by celebrities, royalty and other elites. For instance, Monaco’s Prince Rainier III and Princess Grace were photographed aboard a Benetti moto panfilo.

Material Matters

Benetti looked to the 1960s for inspiration on the Motopanfilo. Notably, that era marked an important period in the yard’s own history. The year 1960 was when the shipyard switched from using wood to using metal for its yachts.

Aerie Advantage

Unless you were aboard the yacht or standing dockside while someone was up top, you’d never know the Motopanfilo 37M has a fourth deck. It’s an observation area. Glass windscreens protect the sun pad that occupies most of the space.

Azimut launches first Magellano 30 Metri

Italian builder Azimut has launched the first Magellano 30 Metri , the flagship of the Magellano series, at its shipyard in Viareggio.

This 30 metre model has been designed by the same team that worked on its predecessor, the Magellano 25 Metri , with Ken Freivokh handling the exterior design and volumes and Vincenzo De Cotiis styling the interiors. The exterior design sports sleek, modern lines combined with vast glazed surfaces and signature teak louvres.

The new flagship was designed for an owner "who plans to enjoy long-distance voyages, whatever the weather conditions," the yard said.

Equipped with a Dual Mode Hull, the Magellano 30 Metri offers high stability at sea and 15% reduced fuel consumption compared to traditional hard chine planing hulls. As well as offering excellent seakeeping capabilities, the yacht's design features eco-focused elements including 100kWh lithium batteries that allow her to be anchored for up to four hours per day and eight hours at night producing zero emissions.

Interiors emphasise a connection with the sea throughout, with generous infinity terraces located on the upper deck and upon entry to the superyacht. With over 70 square metres of glass weaved into the design, indoor areas are light-filled and offer excellent views of the surrounding environment.

Debuting in 2009, Azimut’s Magellano’s line is “synonymous with stress-free cruising and extended trips in total safety”, according to the yard.

Benetti Motopanfilo 37M

Superyacht 72 – Winter 2021-2022

Unveiled at Cannes Yachting Festival, the displacing composite-made Motopanfilo 37M is Benetti’s way to take us back to the 60’s. It is not just about retro-style revisiting, it is a new reading key for a project to combine yachts’ timeless style of those years with cutting-edge naval technologies.

Original video by shypyard

Benetti Motopanfilo 37m

“Motopanfilo” in the sixties was the Italian word to designate large boats only few wealthy owners could boast, often show-biz, high society or Dolcevita representatives. Right in those years Benetti stood out as a leading company within Italian boat manufacturing, as it featured successful models like Delfino gabbiano and Mediterraneo in its range. 18 to 30 meter boats that made the yard the 4th yacht builder in the world as early as 1970, whose owners were celebrities like Prince Ranieri and world rock star David Bowie.

A sleek and clean desig was those yachts’ distinctive feature, hull and superstructure merging into one volume ending in the classical round-shaped aft, and the interiors fully complying with the décor to be referred to as “mariners’ style”. On this basis Benetti now present their Motopanfilo 37m, that does not simply want to recall the past, but to reinterpret the scheme of a yacht in the sixties by combining a timeless fashion-detached style with new generation technologies.

The elegant external lines, characterized by the union of hull and superstructure into one single element as they used to be, were signed by Francesco Struglia who, in cooperation with the yard, definitely met tastes and needs of present owners. The wider and brighter spaces he develops constantly appear in visual touch with the sea. The profile is dominated by clear cuts to exalt the ship’s lines, enriched by a bronzed varnish which replaces in current view what was once known as wooden bandwidth. In the aft mirror lines are fully integrated in the hull volume, as they were in the sixties, yet we a have a new space to satisfy modern owners’ needs instead of classical round aft, with a relaxing beach club and folding door. External design peculiarities include the observation deck above the hard top, a small fourth floor to enjoy the sun from, or the stars in full intimacy.

Nearness of spaces is a concept the Lazzarini Pickering studio also tried to comply with, as they designed both exterior and interior spaces trying to adapt traditional elements to a new classicism. The design is inspired by a big whale skeleton, with bones to remind of yesteryear beams. The choice to completely avoid furniture in front of the huge glass windows enhances the impression of a full visual contact with external spaces. The clever use of mirror surfaces, reflecting sea and sky, furtherly expands internal spaces. Glass windows replace bulkheads even in the main living room, lightening the wide wooden surfaces taking over in this bridge. Wood was chosen in a warmer yet lighter shade than it used to be, to perfectly fit the interpretation of the mariners’ style along with the white and blue furniture. A priceless cabinetry work was done with the false ceiling, whose double bending creates an amazing turned effect towards the aft.

Benetti Motopanfilo 37m

A winding stair, still inspired by a whale’s spine, takes the guests from the lobby to the upper deck lounge, while moving on to the prows leads to the owner’s suite. Four guests cabin are finally found on the lower deck where, on request, a small sauna can also be installed. “Motopanfilo 37M is characterized by an unprecedented sense of interior and exterior space for a yacht of this size. Our meticulous work to physically and virtually extend the spaces, dissolving the barriers between inside and outside to achieve the feeling of being on the sea in all environments, was also accompanied by an extreme attention to detail and to some materials of great merit. These characteristics and the feeling of continuity of the main deck saloon and the external areas with the generous beach platform have made it possible to create a boat that did not exist before”.

External and Interior décor is signed Loro Piana Interiors. Materials do not greatly differ from those normally used in summer at the seaside, most of all line. For the latter, Lazzarini Pickering studio chose warm shades of Biancore white, with a glimpse of blu and malachite. Connemara, a thicker resistant line, was used for duvets and bedspreads, Papeete was chosen for cushions and sommiers, with Milwood line stripes. Devondale and Darjeeling finally enrich the warm white background with variously declined blue shades.

“The Benetti Motopanfilo 37M is the second major Azimut|Benetti project we are part of after the Magellano», explains Francesco Pergamo, Director of the Loro Piana Interiors Division. “Once again, we are asked to get onboard a boat that makes its signature of elegance, clean lines and interiors devoted to pleasure and conviviality. This same vision is also part of our brand’s very DNA, creating a natural and authentic union with the 37M Motopanfilo. The fabrics, selected by the

Lazzarini Pickering Architetti studio, are among our most versatile and performing materials, perfect for the sea and ideal onboard a yacht. Seeing them interpreted with such sobriety and elegance is a great satisfactio”.

Benetti Motopanfilo 37m

“Loro Piana Interiors expresses the artisan sense of industry, which is an essential and unique component of Italian design and products that best combine research, design and quality. Taking on new challenges and developing new technologies with extraordinary elegance and great attention to quality is the perfect expression of Italian savoir faire. Luxury is now a widely abused term, but we are convinced that Motopanfilo 37M and her design express a new meaning for this word in the yachting world. She is a unique boat created by Benetti and Loro Piana Interiors, two Italian companies that express what luxury and the Italian ‘lifestyle’ really mean”.

Giovanna Vitelli’s words, President of Azimut Benetti Group, do not fail to follow: “There are many values that unite Benetti and Loro Piana Interiors, first of all the craftsmanship for the product and the taste of timeless elegance. This is precisely the stylistic code of the new Benetti Motopanfilo 37M, which collects the nautical heritage of our past and projects it into the future. A perfect combination therefore with the Loro Piana Interiors style”. For further information: Benetti Yachts

Benetti’s Viareggio shipyard launched the first unit of the glamorous Motopanfilo 37M, a fiberglass and composite yacht designed by Lazzarini Pickering Architects for the interiors and Francesco Struglia in collaboration with Benetti for the exterior. To suspend the model in time, inspiration was drawn from the 60s “navette” and the stylistic notes of that successful era.

Planned for delivery this September, just after her debut at the Cannes Boat Show, the yacht accommodates 10 guests across 4 cabins and 7 crew members, including the captain.

In Viareggio was held the ceremony for the launch of the first unit of the Benetti Motopanfilo 37M, whose elegant lines evoke memories of the finest nautical traditions with a contemporary twist to meet the needs of modern owners. Inspired by the Benetti “navette” from the ‘60s, the Motopanfilo 37M was conceived as a shell, reinterpreting those iconic, glamorous features and incorporating them into a timeless design across the yacht’s four decks. Lazzarini Pickering Architects designed the interiors and Francesco Struglia, in collaboration with Benetti, signed the elegant exterior lines.

Down by the sea, the transom nods to the iconic models of the Sixties in the form of a beach club allows easy access to the water. The central face of the transom, sharply inclined downwards, opens up to reveal a bathing platform surprisingly ample for a 37-meter.

Benetti - Motopanfilo 37m

On the Main Deck, the tradition of wood and its enduring links with the sea have not been overlooked. In the saloon, modern-style glazed surfaces and gently curved ceilings amplify natural light thanks to the extensive use of warm wood and light colours for the floors. Towards the stern, the ceilings take on a double-curved effect, a testament to the shipyard’s excellence in craftsmanship. The owner’s suite is located toward the bow of the main deck, carrying the captivating design forward.

On the Lower Deck, the respect for the innate character of each environment can be seen in the choice not to straighten the cabin walls, allowing them to follow the gentle, relaxed curve of the hull. The ubiquitous rib structure appears here with an inversion of colours and materials compared to the Main Deck. The four comfortable guest cabins amidships accommodate double beds and toward the bow, in a separate area, three cabins are dedicated to the six crew members. From the lobby, a spiral staircase winds around the central mast that rises through two decks as it accompanies guests to the sky lounge on the upper deck.

The Observation Deck, once carved out around the main mast but on the new Motopanfilo 37M positioned above the hard top, provides a sheltered nook in the sky, absolutely intimate with a special view.

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

yacht panfilo 30 metri

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

yacht panfilo 30 metri

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

yacht panfilo 30 metri

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

yacht panfilo 30 metri

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

yacht panfilo 30 metri

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

yacht panfilo 30 metri

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.

2. General information about Moscow metro

Metro working hours, navigation, wi-fi.

The Moscow Metro is open from about 5:30 am until 1:00 am. The precise opening time varies at different stations according to the arrival of the first train, but all stations simultaneously close their entrances and transitions to other lines at 01:00 am for maintenance. The minimum interval between trains is 90 seconds during the morning and evening rush hours. Each line is identified according to an alphanumeric index (usually consisting of a number), a name and a color. Voice announcements in Russian refer to the lines by name and by numbers in English. A male voice announces the next station when traveling towards the center of the city or the clockwise direction on the circle line, and a female voice – when going away from the center or the counter-clockwise direction at the circle. The lines are also assigned specific colors for maps and signs.

Free Wi-Fi is called MT_FREE and available on all 14 lines (inside the trains).

Using Metro services is frequently the fastest and the most efficient way to get from one part of the city to another. But during daytime Moscow Metro stations are usually overcrowded so if you want to just enjoy the beauty of the underground, it’s better to visit it late in the evening.

MCC and MCD

Since 2016 The Moscow Metro is connected to two new types of rail transport. The first one is MCC – Moscow Central Circle. It has 31 stations around the city with changes to metro stations (most of them require to walk a few minutes via the street). The second one is MCD, Moscow Central Diameters, a system of city train services on existing commuter rail lines in Moscow and Moscow Oblast. MCD has several lines, they’re being marked as D1, D2 etc. Changing to both MCC and MCD from the Metro is free when your journey is within the city. Both MCC and MCD lines exist on all of the Moscow Metro maps.

Interesting facts about Moscow metro

213 people were born in the metro during the World War II, when it was used as a bomb shelter.

There are 76 bronze sculptures of workers, peasants, soldiers, sailors, etc. at Ploshchad Revolyutsii station. There is legend connected with this station. To pass any examination successfully, a student should touch the bronze dog’s nose («the Frontier Guard with a Dog» sculpture). You can easily understand high popularity of this legend by looking at the polished nose of the dog.

It is said that some of the magnificent mosaics at several central stations, for example the «World Peace» mosaic at Novoslobodskaya, were made with the pieces of enamel and smalt, taken from the famous Christ the Savior Cathedral, before it’s destruction.

As any other dungeon the Moscow metro, has its own ghosts. The most famous one is the old lineman. He is not dangerous and usually hides into the wall, when people appear. The ghostly metro train is much more dangerous. It appears after midnight at the Circle Line and consists of old-time carriages. It sometimes stops at the stations and opens its doors, and then goes back into the darkness. It is said that the souls of Stalin’s prisoners, perished during the building of the metro are locked in the train forever.
