A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

1986 Kanter 65 The Kanter  is a centerboard ketch designed for the owner who plans long distance cruising with crew or who wishes to cruise in elegance with friends. All Kanter yachts share a clean modern look. They have moderate drafts and long waterlines for excellent performance in either deep water or shoal. Kanter yachts are also well-designed for shorthanded sailing, many with full hydraulics. Most yachts feature a comfortable pilot house and Kanter's metal hulls always provide great scope for custom designs. In addition watertight bulkheads ensure the highest levels of safety. A Kanter is truly the ideal cruising yacht for a family. All Kanter yachts are custom built to meet their owner's personal requirements. Interiors from the traditional to the more contemporary are available to compliment every life-style. Experience and research both show metal hulls to be far stronger than hulls made of fibreglass, wood, or composite materials. As hull integrity is one of the most important factors in boat safety, Kanter constructs its hulls from only the highest quality steel and aluminium. All Kanter hulls are insulated and carry a full 10 year warranty. Aluminium and steel hulls offer other advantages. For example they facilitate the construction of integral storage tanks for water and fuel. These storage tanks are located below the sole and they provide the additional security of a double hull in that vulnerable area. Placing the fuel and water tanks in this location also lowers the boat's centre of gravity. This reduces the angle of heeling and increases cruising comfort. Kanter's interiors are hand-crafted from only the finest materials. Traditional teak, cherry and ash are prominently featured in many boats. Other interiors more liberally incorporate new space-age materials.

While the hull and structure were commissioned in 2007, the engines, major mechanicals, driveline, quad fin Naiad Zero Speed stabilizers, interior, and exterior wood was completed in 2012. Her C-18 Caterpillar engines have only 1450 hours.
