Greg Norman’s Yacht Makes Skyscrapers Look Small

greg norman yacht 2022

At 285 feet long, Greg Norman’s new yacht is like his own personal portable island – or country. Possibly the largest aluminum yacht ever built, the $70 million “Aussie Rules” was built by Oceanfast and features anything you could want.

“Included in that price tag is a $1 million home theatre, two hyperbaric chambers (to restore your breath after you find out how much this thing costs!), seven auxiliary boats (in this case, one being a sportfish yacht that looks the size of a dingy in comparison!), several jet-ski’s, a work-out gym and rumor has it… some 200 fishing rods,” according to the Boatcatch Facebook page.

Whether or not this thing comes with an 18-hole golf course built in, I know who I want to invite me on their next fishing trip.

Update: Over the years, Norman has owned a veritable armada of sport-fishing vessels and pleasure cruisers.  The yacht no longer belongs to Norman; he sold it for a reported $77 million. But don’t think he couldn’t buy another if he wanted. Bottom line: If you want to travel the seas like this Shark, you’re going to need a bigger boat.

Exterior space in Greg Norman's house in Florida

Golf icon Greg Norman has shared a glimpse into his oceanfront Jupiter Island home on Florida's palm-tree kissed Treasure Coast. The 8-acre private estate is surrounded by water that stretches from the Intracoastal Waterway to the sun-glazed beaches of the Atlantic. But, while the coastal setting blesses the home's exterior, the interiors are no less impressive.

Designed by Greg's interior designer wife, Kirsten Norman, the house draws inspiration from luxury yacht interiors, which pays homage to Florida's shores throughout the property through its distinctive nautical light fixtures, dark wood features, and stylish shell accessories.

Gregory John Norman, who is best known as Greg, has now retired as a professional golfer. The Australian-native spent 331 weeks as the world's Number 1 Official World Golf Rankings ranked golfer throughout the 1980s and 1990s and has won 89 tournaments, including The Open in 1986 and 1993 and 20 PGA Tour tournaments.

He is now the chairman and CEO of the Greg Norman Company and has business in companies in interior design and real estate, among other design and sports industries.

The globally recognized figure and his wife curated their home to reflect their passion for travel and memories of their favorite trips throughout their interiors. This theme is mirrored throughout the chic open-plan wooden kitchen and art-filled living and dining area. Other notable rooms include the bathrooms, exclusively fitted with Drummonds' bathroom ware, including large free-standing tubs and shower cubicle.

The bathrooms were purposefully designed to reflect boutique hotels, combined with elegant English design, as a subtle reminder of the couple's years living in London.

Kirsten shares how she chose Drummonds' fittings after searching for something that 'you don't see too often.' She adds how she was drawn to the products because they are 'very distinctive and unique.'

Alongside the main home, the estate contains seven smaller buildings, a swimming pool, tennis courts, and a lush garden facing the ocean. We also have no doubt that there is a golf course somewhere in the very close vicinity of this sporting legend's home.

Golf: New $129m toy for Greg Norman

Nothing is ever too grandiose for golfer Greg Norman, especially when it comes to yachts. He has taken taken delivery of an 85.5m craft that is said to have cost US$70 million ($129.5 million) and is believed to be the world's largest aluminium motor yacht. "There are many interesting and unique design features that will place the yacht [named Aussie Rules] at the top of her category when she is seen cruising around destinations throughout the world," Norman said. Unique might be an understatement. The yacht has seven auxiliary boats and a US$1 million home theatre. Optional extras include a gym, several jet skis and a tackle room with 200 fishing rods.

In conversation with golfing legend and avid yachtsman Greg Norman

greg norman yacht 2022

Known worldwide as an athlete and a businessman, Greg Norman has seen international success both on the golf course and in the boardroom. An icon of the sport, Australian-born Norman started golfing at the age of 15 and joined the PGA tour full-time in 1983. He went on to hold the second-longest reign as world number one and win over 90 PGA tournaments, earning him the name ‘Great White Shark’.

Now a successful entrepreneur, Greg is chairman and CEO of the Greg Norman Company, which owns over a dozen businesses worldwide – encompassing golf course design, global real estate award-winning wine, lifestyle apparel, and a diverse investment division. He lives with his family in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where he continues to be involved in sporting, business and charitable endeavours. An avid yachtsman, Greg has owned multiple superyachts, including the 70m Oceanfast superyacht AUSSIE RULES, which he sold in 2004.

Having sold AUSSIE RULES once as FLORIDIAN and then for a second time as NOMAD at the Monaco Yacht Show (agreeing the deal as yacht horns blared to signal the end of the event), our good friends over at Ocean Independence were keen to learn more about what drives Greg and discuss his love of yachting.

Did you have a connection to the water from an early age?

I grew up in Townsville, close to the beach, and my family had a holiday hut on Magnetic Island, only eight kilometres from the shore, so the Great Barrier Reef was in my blood! Every day as a young kid, I would come home from school and we would go out fishing, surfing, snorkelling, and diving. I would ride my horse bareback along the beach, skim-board, and fish in a little boat with an 18-horsepower motor on the back. My sister and I grew up sailing a little boat called Peter Pan with the Townsville Sailing Club. I was very fortunate – I had a wonderful childhood.

Greg Norman

And how about golf?

At age 15 we moved to Brisbane because of my dad’s work. I lost all my mates, though I was still surfing a lot at Sunshine Beach and Byron Bay. My golf really came on around the age of 16 after caddying for my mum one day. She was a four handicap, so I figured if she could do it, so could I. After that everything else got tossed aside, including water sports, cricket, rugby, and Aussie Rules.

How did you get involved in superyacht ownership?

It came out of my love of the ocean. My dad built me a boat with wood framing when I was about 11 years old, and I thought the woodworking process was amazing. I had watched my dad working under our house and was fascinated by how much work was involved in shaping, and the tools involved. This whole experience really stayed with me.

The first AUSSIE RULES was a 27m sports fishing boat, built by Oceanfast in Australia. My passion for deep-sea fishing and scuba diving were the motivators behind this build: I wanted a platform that would allow me to do both. I shipped it over to the US, and quite honestly it was one of the biggest sports fishing boats there at the time – I was ahead of the game. It was the platform I wanted with the four state rooms and plenty of dive rooms. Great for the Bahamas and the Caribbean.

Then I bought a Feadship, which I enjoyed, but at the same time I knew there was something missing. I needed to have another sports fishing boat to go diving and fishing. I had the idea of building the 69m AUSSIE RULES at Oceanfast, with a combination of all the things I needed. I designed it to circumnavigate Australia, which I really wanted to do. It had a flat bottom, because tidal flows in the northern part of Australia are 45 feet. I got involved with the tank testing, the stringers, all those engineering things – I was fascinated with the build process and I really studied hard. I wrote the specification book before I even went to the yard.

greg norman yacht 2022

What did you like about the build process?

All of it! I loved understanding the engine room and the working spaces, the generators, centrifuges and water-makers, all that stuff. There was the question of where we were going to put everything. There is a refrigerated trash compactor in the transom. The boat just grew and grew to be the 230. To build something of that magnitude and sophistication in the late 1990s, we had to be innovative in our mindset. We won the Showboats Yacht of the Year award.

It is very important to remember that the yacht is a testament to Oceanfast, my captain (who was present throughout the build), and all the engineers, the sparks, and the skilled people who did a phenomenal job in Australia. This yacht was ten years ahead of her time. I really couldn’t get to enjoy her as much as I wanted as I was still playing golf. If I had the yacht now, you would never see me working. I regretted the day I sold her!

Tell us about a favourite adventure on AUSSIE RULES

I remember a month in French Polynesia with my family. We almost ran out of fuel as we got back to Bora Bora. We held like 285,000 litres and used the lot on the most amazing experience I’ve ever had: the most beautiful water, great experiences with oceanic white tips and bottlenose whales. Amazing!

greg norman yacht 2022

How have your businesses been during the Covid-19 pandemic?

My businesses are global, so it’s not a one-size fits all answer. I think the world is in a confused place right now. From a geopolitical standpoint, there’s so much white noise and media bias. I have this saying: ‘The voice of the critic is far louder than the voice of the advocate’. Nowadays, one person challenging and complaining about a company can change everything. You have to be extremely sensitive to those situations and demands from customers.

Through my travels, I love seeing what happens in different countries. Take Vietnam, a communist country loving free market capitalism! It is a red-hot country – great people, great food, great cities and very safe. The Vietnamese recognise that market capitalism is as good as gold. I was asked to be the Golf Tourism Ambassador in Vietnam, and I accepted wholeheartedly.

All of that being said, I love where we are at and I think we’ve done a very good job of managing the whole process with my consumer products during the pandemic. We are in a strong position. Now we are looking into expanding further into the health and wellness space and looking at new opportunities – you have to be a forward thinker. I never look to the past, always to the future.

Taking up the game when he was just seven years of age, Matt made it into his county squad just a year later and continues to play the game at a high standard, with a handicap of around 2-4. To date, his best round came in 2016, where he shot a six-under-par 66 having been seven-under through nine holes. He currently plays at Witney Lakes in Oxfordshire and his favourite player is Rory McIlroy, despite nearly being struck by his second shot at the 17th during the 2015 BMW PGA Championship.

Greg Norman’s Yacht

The rotors of a helicopter cut through the Florida heat as Greg Norman delivered a speech. Oceanfast built “Aussie Rules” for the pro golfer. It has a helicopter pad for 12 people and two turboprop engines in the rear to help the yacht reach cruising speed. The rotors are so loud that they interrupt Greg Norman’s speech. Greg Norman’s yacht has been spotted in a number of places, including Cabo and Puerto Vallarta.

Greg Norman’s blond hair and aggressive style have earned him the nickname “Great White Shark”. His mother, a Finnish immigrant from Finland, was a member on the PGA Tour when Norman was just 15 years old. He began to improve her game and act as her caddy shortly after. Norman graduated high school knowing that he had the potential to be an international sports star. In fact, he won the 1981 Masters and later went on to win the U.S. Open.

The OCEAN SPIRIT yacht is a high-quality Australian yacht. It cost its first owner US$70million. Since then, Norman has added four Yamaha Waverunners and a Mini Cooper. It has a capacity of up to 24 guests and is capable of sleeping 14 people. Kutayba alghanim, a Kuwaiti billionaire, currently owns the yacht. Norman’s wife Kristen Kutner lives on board.

Greg Norman has spent a lot of money on luxury yachts. The Oceanfast “Aussie Rules”, which cost $70 million, was purchased by Greg Norman. She is 285 feet long and is an expedition-style yacht. A twelve-seat helicopter is also available. Greg Norman’s net worth was estimated at $340 million in April 2022. So, just how much does a golf pro spend on a yacht?

As a golfer, Greg Norman has received numerous endorsements and is an extremely successful businessman. His yacht, Aussie Rules, is named after the Australian game of golf. It is the largest private yacht in the World and has been seen in many locations including Hawaii, Monaco, and Monaco. Despite its high price tag, Greg Norman’s yacht has a huge following.

The golfer has spent a large portion of his wealth on luxury yachts. From 1986 to 1995, he was the top earner on the professional golf circuit, with earnings of more than $10 million. The prize money is not a fixed salary for golfers, but they do get a prize money if they are among the winners. The golfer has a net value of $300 million and has also invested in a company that designs golf courses. Other golfers who have built their own yachts include Tony Finau and Xander Schauffele.

Greg Norman Yacht

The greg norman yacht – a golf enthusiast’s dream come true.

If you’re interested in luxury yachts, you’ve probably seen pictures of the 87-foot Greg Norman yacht. This boat was designed by golf legend Greg Norman and is just as impressive as its owner. After all, he’s a yacht enthusiast, too! Here are some of Norman’s favourite details. These features include the helipad, wine cellar, 15-foot herb garden, and wine cellar.

It’s not difficult to see why a professional golfer would want a superyacht. He formerly competed on the PGA Tour and was known as “the Great White Shark” on the course. Today, Greg Norman is one of the most popular athletes of all time, and his yacht is no exception. It’s one the most luxurious yachts on the planet, and you’d be hard-pressed not to want to be there!

Besides golfing, Norman is an entrepreneur. He owns a large yacht and a Palm Beach Gardens mansion. He is a well-known golfer who has won over 88 tournaments as well as two Major Championships. But he isn’t all about his wealth, either. He owns a stunning mansion in Palm Beach Gardens and a magnificent yacht. The yacht is a dream come true for him.

Among Norman’s many other impressive projects, the Aussie Rules is the largest aluminum motor yacht in history. The Aussie Rules was built by Oceanfast, a world-renowned Australian boat maker. It was ten years ahead of its time, and the first of its kind. It won the Showboats Yacht of the Year award and was even ten years ahead of its time. As a result, it is one of the most luxurious yachts in the world.

Greg Norman bought his yacht in 2005. It measures 69.5m, or 228ft, and is called Aussie Rules. Norman Lockwood designed it to allow for remote fishing locations. It also features a giant winch that faces the transom door, large fish boxes, lighted aquarium wells and bait freezers. Another notable feature of this yacht is its tower, which is made by Marine Metal Fabrications.

Norman’s father was a strong supporter of Norman and was happy to spend time with him. When Merv was 94, he took him to Australia to meet him. Merv was a very affectionate person and never spoke of his regrets publicly. The two of them embraced each other. Merv came forward to hug his son. Norman was left speechless, but his family was happy to have him back.

Gary Woodland is back at Augusta National for the Masters. So is Greg Norman

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — Gary Woodland is back at Augusta National this week, feeling perhaps more grateful to be at the Masters than anyone.

A mere seven months ago, the former U.S. Open champion was undergoing brain surgery after a tumor was discovered. The 39-year-old from Kansas had been experiencing symptoms for months, yet he continued to play through the summer, even as the symptoms and subsequent medications left him wracked with anxiety and paranoia.

In August, doctors drilled a baseball-sized hole in the side of Woodland’s skull. They removed as much of the tumor possible, though they couldn’t get it all, but deemed the procedure a success. The tumor was found to be benign.

Woodland returned at the Sony Open in January. And even though he has missed five of eight cuts, he believes he is finding his form. Woodland shot three rounds in the 60s and tied for 21st a couple of weeks ago at the Houston Open.

“The reception has been amazing,” he said. “For so long I wasn’t saying anything, and so nobody knew. That was the hard part, putting on a smile and acting like everything is OK. It shows that people care. We’re a big family out here, at the end of the day. We’re all out here trying to win, but we’re all here to support each other as well, and I’ve definitely felt that.”

He certainly felt it during the Par 3 Contest on Wednesday. Woodland elicited a roar when he aced the sixth hole.

SHARK SIGHTING

Among the more notable faces in the crowd Wednesday at the Masters was none other than Greg Norman.

The Washington Post spotted Norman, the CEO and commissioner of Saudi-funded LIV Golf, following his players along the first fairway during the final day of practice. The Post said he entered through the main gates with a ticket along with LIV executives.

“Walking around here today, there’s not one person who said to me, ‘Why did you do LIV?’” Norman told The Post. “There’s been hundreds of people, even security guys, stopping me, saying, ‘Hey, what you’re doing is fantastic.’ To me, that tells you that what we have and the platform fits within the ecosystem, and it’s good for the game of golf.”

Norman had not been to the Masters since he was a radio analyst for SiriusXM radio in 2021. Major champions typically get noncompeting invitations, but The Shark was not extended one last year because Masters Chairman Fred Ridley said he wanted the focus to be on the tournament.

“I’m here because we have 13 players that won 10 Masters between them,” Norman said. “So I’m here just to support them, do the best I can to show them, ‘Hey, you know, the boss is here rooting for you.’”

OOO, BABY, BABY

Just about the only thing that seems like it could slow down Scottie Scheffler, the 2022 Masters champion and world No. 1 , this week could be a call from home — provided the message finds him on a course where cellphones are verboten.

Scheffler’s wife, Meredith, is due to give birth to the couple’s first child later this month, and he said he would withdraw even if he was leading the tournament so that he could jet back to Dallas if she went into labor.

Sam Burns is in the same situation. His wife, Caroline, is due to give birth to their first child in a little under two weeks.

DISTANCE CONCERNS

Masters Chairman Fred Ridley repeated his support for the USGA and R&A pushing forward with a plan to change equipment standards aimed toward making the golf ball go shorter distances . And he used his own number Wednesday.

“I’ve said in the past that I hope we will not play the Masters at 8,000 yards,” Ridley said. “But that is likely to happen in the not-too-distant future under current standards.”

New testing standards are designed to make elite players hit up to 15 yards shorter, but they don’t go into effect until 2028. The PGA Tour and the PGA of America are opposed to rolling back how far the golf ball can go, but Ridley was hopeful they adopt the standards to avoid “a great deal of stress in the game, which it doesn’t need right now.”

Ridley also said there was no plan to introduce a tournament for female professionals at Augusta National.

“We happily were able to find a way to have a competition for juniors and a competition for women amateurs sort of wrapped around the Masters Tournament, and it just seems to fit really well,” he said. “To have another tournament of any kind would be very difficult based on our season, based on the fact that this is essentially a winter and spring golf course. It’s not open in the summer. It doesn’t play the way we want it to play in the fall for a major tournament.”

CADDIE ON CALL

Tommy Fleetwood is playing this week without longtime caddie Ian Finnis, who remained home with an illness that he’s been dealing with since December. The two have been together for nearly every tournament the past eight years.

Fleetwood played the Texas Open last week with Adrian Rietveld, who works for TaylorMade and helps Fleetwood and others with their equipment issues. But Fleetwood chose a more local option for his eighth appearance at the Masters.

“My caddie is Gray Moore. He’s an Augusta caddie,” Fleetwood said. “The first two or three years that I came here, I always had Gray in practice and would always sit and speak to him. So I’ve known him well for the last few years.”

Fleetwood isn’t the only one with changes on the bag. Justin Thomas abruptly parted with Jim “Bones” Mackay last week and will have Matt Minister helping him. Tyrell Hatton is without Mick Donaghy, who fell before the final round of last week’s LIV Golf event at Doral , and will be using friend and golf pro Hugo Dobson this week.

Greg Norman’s LIV league signs surprise deal with Golf Australia

G reg Norman’s rebel LIV circuit has made a surprise offering to the peak body for golf in Australia, promising a financial commitment to a development program.

After years of turmoil in the men’s professional game, Golf Australia has struck a deal with LIV Golf, which has spent billions of dollars in sign-on fees and prize money to launch a league with some of the world’s best players.

While Norman has previously taken aim at Australian authorities for not entertaining discussions with LIV, there has been a development in South Australia.

According to sources speaking on the condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorised to discuss it publicly, LIV and Cameron Smith’s Ripper GC franchise will make a financial commitment to My Golf, Australia’s official junior program designed to introduce children to golf.

An official announcement is expected within days.

About 80,000 fans will watch LIV’s second Australian tournament, which started on Friday, and Golf Australia has also established an area to promote the game to kids while the likes of Smith, Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka battle for the largest purse ever offered on local shores.

The move is a step in helping the sport flourish in Australia and healing the divide in the professional game since LIV launched in 2022.

The PGA of Australia’s two main events - the Australian PGA and Australian Open - are both co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour, with local officials having remained committed to the traditional circuits.

But with participation levels continuing to soar, Golf Australia, which is separate from the PGA of Australia and oversees grassroots development, will take the opportunity to promote its sport to the masses who have flocked to Adelaide for LIV.

“We are grateful to work with LIV Golf, and especially support Ripper GC, to help inspire our young Australians to engage with this fantastic game,” said Golf Australia’s general manager of participation David Gallichio.

“We know the benefits of playing golf go far beyond the sport, helping people stay active, make friends, and build skills such as trust, resilience and teamwork to take them through life.”

Earlier this week, Norman ruled out Australia hosting a second LIV event each year despite the popularity of its Adelaide tournament, which was named the world’s best golf event for 2023. But it doesn’t mean LIV will stifle its investment in Australia.

“Our work in Australia will bring the game that we love to more young people and enhance the great work already being done across the country,” said LIV Golf senior vice president of impact and sustainability Jake Jones.

The news emerged on the same day unheralded Japanese player Jinichiro Kozuma stole the show on the opening day at The Grange Golf Club.

Kozuma, who only won a spot on LIV’s roster in their inaugural promotions event last year, shot a nine-under 63 to lead by one from Carlos Ortiz and Danny Lee.

Smith’s all-Australian team made a solid start with Matt Jones (-6) the best of the quartet, almost landing a crowd-pleasing hole-in-one on the 14th hole when his shot cannoned into the flag stick and nestled centimetres from the cup.

Marc Leishman (-5) and Smith (-4) also put themselves in contention with solid starts, but Jon Rahm, who switched to LIV Golf for a reported $900 million, produced a birdie-birdie finish to lurk ominously as he chases his first individual win in the league.

“We wanted to play well last year and didn’t, but this year we came in a little more relaxed,” Jones said.

“From what we saw and where the ball finished [on the 14th hole], I would say yes, I was robbed. But when we see it, I’ll have a good understanding.”

Sweden’s Henrik Stenson (+1) came closest to igniting the crowd on the stadium-like watering hole, almost draining his shot like Chase Koepka did last year.

Greg Norman responds to the Rory McIlroy LIV Golf rumors

Greg Norman in a hat

Rory McIlroy recently denied that he received a massive offer from LIV Golf, and now Greg Norman has also addressed the rumors.

City A.M., a London-focused business and financial outlet, reported last week that McIlroy is close to joining LIV Golf . The report said that McIlroy is being offered $850 million and two percent equity in LIV Golf to join the PGA Tour competitor.

Before the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head, S.C., McIlroy told reporters he has never received an offer from LIV and has no idea where the rumor came from. Norman, who is one of LIV’s top executives, told reporters the same on Tuesday. But if McIlroy wanted to talk, Norman says LIV would be all ears.

“LIV never put an offer to him. … This is just typical white noise that gets out there in the industry. If Rory was willing to sit down and have a conversation with us, would we be happy to sit down with him? 100 percent, no different than any other player who would be interested in coming on and playing with us,” Norman said.

Greg Norman says LIV have never put an offer to Rory McIlroy, despite the report of him potentially joining the league for $850 million: “Look, I'll make the comment if you look back over that time period of that dialogue that was going, there there wasn't one comment about LIV.… pic.twitter.com/PtMXPLmA3s — Flushing It (@flushingitgolf) April 24, 2024

Norman also claimed he recently sat down with a “top, top PGA Tour player” and that the golfer was extremely impressed with what LIV has to offer. The unnamed player decided to remain on the PGA Tour despite admitting what he previously thought about LIV was not accurate.

McIlroy was the most vocal critic of LIV Golf when the new league was poaching players from the PGA Tour. He was then left in an awkward position when the PGA Tour and LIV announced a merger, though that deal has not yet been finalized. McIlroy has since resigned from a prominent position with the PGA Tour , but there has been no indication that he has considered leaving.

If you use the reported contract that Jon Rahm signed with LIV last year as a benchmark, it would not be impossible to believe that LIV would offer McIlroy even more. That just has not happened.

Greg Norman ‘open-minded’ to altering LIV’s signature 54-hole format

greg norman yacht 2022

Greg Norman, the CEO of LIV Golf, indicated he is “very open-minded” to the idea of expanding tournaments on the Saudi-backed circuit from 54 to 72 holes but said there is an “economic impact about putting television on for 72 holes.”

His comment is significant because, like LIV Golf’s team competition and shotgun starts, the 54-hole length of tournaments has been a defining feature, with “LIV” coming from the Roman numeral for 54. Jon Rahm, a star player whose switch to LIV in December was a jolt to the PGA Tour , said he hoped a 72-hole format might help unite the established and upstart tours.

“It’s a great conversation to have,” Norman said of expansion at a news conference ahead of the tour’s event in Adelaide, Australia. “We will continue to have that conversation going forward. But we sit back and say: ‘What value do we get on putting on television on Thursday? How do we build out in the future?’

“ … Maybe it is Thursday and you allow another 30,000 people coming in on a Thursday. There are things that we sit back and look at to see what is the most optimal solution to make this a better and better and better event, and 72 holes is discussed.”

Seated with Norman at the news conference, Rahm, the 2023 Masters and 2021 U.S. Open champion, spoke of a “level of comfort” with the 72-hole format but agreed that a longer format had to make financial sense for Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, with the decision coming at a business rather than athletic level.

“It could help a lot of fans’ trust in LIV a little bit more because that’s a lot of the complaints that I see from a lot of people,” he said.

But he added, “at the end of the day, LIV is a business. If it doesn’t fit the product, it doesn’t fit the product. I’m just a player. There’s a lot of people that are a lot smarter than me that can figure it out and explain why they believe 54 holes may be better for them.”

A move to 72 holes might also lead to the Official World Golf Ranking recognizing LIV golfers. In October, its board denied LIV’s application to receive the ranking points most golfers need to qualify for golf’s biggest events, although it cited a variety of factors other than the length of LIV’s tournaments.

Rahm, the world’s No. 1 player when he competed on the PGA Tour, pointed out that global soccer works, with every league following the same rules.

“In football, European football, you have the Premier League, you have the Spanish League, you have the German League, you have Serie A, you have the Champions League, the Euro Cup, many other things,” he said . “The one thing I realized is they all play under the same set of rules. While we play under most set of rules, the one key difference is 72 holes. That’s one of the main reasons why I believe it could help us.”

Rahm had previously opposed LIV’s 54-hole, no cut format , saying in June 2022 that it “is not a golf tournament. … It’s that simple.”

“I want to play against the best in the world in a format that’s been going on for hundreds of years. That’s what I want to see,” Rahm said in June 2022. “Yeah, money is great, but when [his wife] Kelley and I … we started talking about it, and we’re like, ‘Will our lifestyle change if I got $400 million?’ No, it will not change one bit.

“Truth be told, I could retire right now with what I’ve made and live a very happy life and not play golf again,” he continued. “So I’ve never really played the game of golf for monetary reasons. I play for the love of the game, and I want to play against the best in the world. I’ve always been interested in history and legacy, and right now the PGA Tour has that.”

Maybe LIV Golf will, too.

As for another star PGA golfer, Norman also addressed a recent report that Rory McIlroy, an outspoken opponent of LIV Golf, would switch for $850 million. McIlroy shot down the report and Norman dismissed it Wednesday as “just typical white noise that gets out there in the industry.”

David Beckham’s $14 Million Lawsuit Against Mark Wahlberg’s Company, Explained

David Beckham is suing a fitness training company partly owned by actor Mark Wahlberg, alleging F45 Training failed to pay him stock for marketing and social media posts in a timely manner, leading the soccer legend to lose out on $14 million.

In a civil complaint, Beckham claimed he lost over $14 million after F45’s stock price dropped ... [+] rapidly and was delisted.

Beckham says he agreed to become a “global ambassador” for the fitness company F45 Training in November 2020, posting promotional content on his Instagram account in exchange for tradable shares in the company when it went public in July 2021.

The soccer star’s lawsuit alleges F45 was required to compensate him with shares in the company within six months of its initial public offering in January 2022—but delayed handing the shares over to Beckham for months.

F45’s stock price fell rapidly after February 2022, causing the value of Beckham’s potential shares to lose an estimated $9.3 million by the time he was finally awarded them, his complaint alleges, and Beckham’s attorneys also allege F45 refused to hand over another $5 million in shares they were contractually required to pay him in July 2022.

F45’s attorneys deny both of these claims, saying the company issued Beckham the shares he was owed on time, and that Beckham’s company is “attempting to benefit from its own wrongdoing and has unclean hands” (it’s unclear what wrongdoing F45 alleges).

DB Ventures Limited, a firm owned by Beckham, first joined with Australian golfer and fellow F45 spokesperson Greg Norman in October 2022 to file a civil suit against F45, Wahlberg and several of the gym’s co-founders, but a judge ordered the two celebrities had to file cases separately, leading Beckham to file a new complaint in May 2023.

In September, California-based federal Judge Maame Ewusi-Mensah Frimpong denied a previous motion to dismiss the lawsuit brought by F45’s lawyers, finding Beckham fulfilled his obligations to F45, but the fitness company “did not make the issued shares freely transferable or tradeable.”

Beckham’s suit garnered international attention in recent days after the tabloid press in the U.K. reported on Wahlberg’s motion to dismiss another class action lawsuit against the company in March, which said the suit’s claims were “materially false or misleading.”

What To Watch For

Whether the suit will be dismissed or eventually go to trial. The judge issued an order for a civil trial in November, but no trial date has been set in the months since. It is unclear when a future trial will be scheduled, or if Beckham and F45 will settle out of court. Forbes has reached out to Beckham and the company’s attorneys for comment.

Key Background

F45 Training was founded by Adam Gilchrist and Rob Deutsche in Sydney, Australia in 2011, and quickly expanded with hundreds of franchises in the U.S., Canada, New Zealand and Australia. F45’s locations offer what it describes as “high-intensity functional group workouts.” In 2019, Wahlberg bought a minority stake in the company in a deal financed by his Mark Wahlberg Investment Group and FOD Capital, Bloomberg reported, which valued the company at $450 million. F45 went public in July 2021, and began trading on the New York Stock Exchange at $16.10 per share. The stock price plummeted in 2022, never fully recovered, and was delisted by the NYSE in August. It has been trading below $1 per share since the delisting, and was last valued at approximately 15 cents per share, valuing the company at $14.63 million—roughly what Beckham says he’s owed.

Who Else Is Suing F45?

The Australian fitness company is facing another class action securities fraud lawsuit filed in the Western District of Texas, where its Austin headquarters is located. Several investors brought the suit against the company, its co-founders, and Mark Wahlberg in December 2022, alleging the company changed its business model and made false or misleading statements about the amount of franchises it was opening. According to the plaintiffs, F45 eventually slashed revenue guidance to $120-130 million, after previously telling investors they expected to make $255 million to $275 million in 2022. Lawyers for F45 moved to dismiss the Texas lawsuit in March, arguing the suit was “a classic example of fraud by hindsight.”

According to lawyers for F45, the company delayed its IPO due to the COVID-19 pandemic and didn’t go public until 2021. The company said the materials it provided to investors had “cautionary statements about the unpredictable nature of F45’s business.” The company blamed the IPO’s eventual failure on “repeated waves of COVID-19 variants, along with other challenges,” which it said “prevented F45 from realizing its projected growth.”

David Beckham is suing Mark Wahlberg’s fitness company for $14 million—making him the third former pro athlete to do so

David Beckham; Mark Wahlberg

David Beckham is taking on Mark Wahlberg—but not on the soccer pitch.

The soccer icon is suing F45 Training, a fitness company co-owned by the actor, claiming it owes him millions of dollars for an endorsement deal.

According to court filings, Beckham entered a five-year agreement in 2020 to be a brand ambassador for F45. The company said it would pay Beckham $1.5 million per year, the filings said, in addition to shares of the company six months and 12 months after it went public.

In court filings, Beckham’s management business said F45 did not pay him the promised “substantial cash and equity compensation” for his endorsement, even after its IPO in July 2021. It claims F45 failed to make good on the following promises: to transfer nearly 1 million shares to Beckham within the time period outlined, and to issue $5 million worth of additional shares.

Beckham claimed he received the initial shares eight months later than promised—by then, F45’s stock had declined, costing him $9.3 million, he said. The Inter Miami co-owner sued the fitness chain in May 2023, claiming he is entitled to more than $14 million in damages.

F45 initially sought to have the lawsuit dismissed, but a judge denied the motion in September 2023, according to Fox Business. Lawyers for F45 denied Beckham’s allegations in court filings. The company said the former soccer player did not fulfill his contractual obligations and had “unclean hands.”

On F45’s social media accounts, it’s business as usual. The company is currently promoting “Wahlberg Week,” a free-trial week of workouts created exclusively with the Ted star.

From fit to flop

F45 first launched in Australia in 2011, and has since expanded internationally to more than 60 countries, according to its website. F45—which stands for “functional” exercise for 45 minutes—combines elements of HIIT, circuit training, and functional training.

Wahlberg acquired a 36% stake in F45 in 2019 through his investment group, according to Beckham’s lawsuit, and joined the company’s board the same year. The actor was named F45’s chief brand officer in 2023, and regularly appears as the face of the brand in promotional materials.

But F45’s valuation tumbled just as quickly: It went public on the New York Stock Exchange in July 2021 with a $1.4 billion valuation, but then a series of issues, which Beckham calls “fiscal mismanagement and macroeconomic pressures,” followed—and the company later revealed that it lost a combined $372 million in 2021 and 2022.

F45 delisted from the stock exchange in August 2023, after it failed to file its 2022 financials with the Securities and Exchange Commission in time, thereby not complying with NYSE rules. F45’s share price declined by more than 90% in 2023.

A messy history

Beckham is not the only former brand ambassador to accuse F45 of not following through on payments.

Beckham initially sued F45 in October 2022 alongside former world No. 1 golfer Greg Norman, alleging breach of contract. They were later ordered by a judge to bring their cases separately, and Norman did not pursue another lawsuit.

In 2017, prior to Wahlberg’s involvement with F45, former NFL wide receiver Terrell Owens was the first pro athlete to bring a lawsuit against the fitness company, claiming it owed him $700,000.

Owens’s lawsuit claims he agreed to appear in a promotional video for $15,000—and received the payment. But Owens also claimed that F45 promised to pay him an additional $25,000 per gym for the first 25 gyms opened, and an additional $5,000 for every opening that followed.

F45 publicly denied the claims and said it would countersue Owens, but as of April 2024, it is unclear what became of Owens’s lawsuit.

“We’re not a company that doesn’t pay our bills,” F45’s co-CEO told TMZ at the time.

The best golf clubs in moscow: luxury, exclusivity, and entertainment.

  • The Best Golf Clubs in…

In Russia, the western concept of building architecturally beautiful golf courses filled with modern and luxurious amenities has found fertile ground. What was considered a frivolous pastime during the time of the Soviets has become the latest trend for the stylish set. These days, there are countless options around Moscow to practice golf, polo, ski, yachting, and other sports alongside 5-star hotels, luxurious country houses, and magnificent villas.

The game of golf is a sport that requires passion and expertise. It is also part of a culture that considers this pastime a synonym of social prestige and exclusivity. In recent years, the new Russian elite has turned to golf as a vehicle of integration in the era of globalization. Golf courses are also meeting and socializing spaces where Muscovite tycoons can relax and also seal business deals.

Golf Courses in Russia

The Moscow Country Club, Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club, Tseleevo Golf & Polo Club, and Zavidovo Golf Club, PGA National Russia are some of the most exclusive and elegant golf courses in Russia. Some of them have made it to the list of Top 15 golf clubs in the world, a source of great prestige for the country.

The first 18-hole golf course built in Russia, Moscow Country Club, hosts the exclusive PGA European Tour. Located just eight miles from the city center, this luxurious facility was created by architect Robert Trent Jones Jr . The design takes advantage of a typical Russian birch and spruce forest to provide a natural environment of extraordinary beauty.

The Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club is 18 miles from the heart of Moscow, close to historical monuments from the 17th and 18th centuries. Designed by famed architects Paul and Dave Thomas , this 18-hole course is part of a complex that includes a yacht club, an equestrian center, and a health and wellness facility. Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club is Russia’s version of a classic country club with multiple attractions.

This park is among the best in Eastern Europe and was awarded the 2014 World Golf Award as the best golf course in Russia. Located 25 miles from Moscow, it is part of a vast complex featuring an 18-hole golf course, designed by Jack Nicklaus , a polo club and a mountain ski club with four tracks. The design combines classic Scottish, Alpine, and English features in a dreamy landscape.

Less than 60 miles from Moscow, this golf course with a definite Scottish design is the only one in Russia recognized as a PGA (Professional Golfers’ Association) from Britain and Ireland. Located in an ecologically pristine area on the banks of the Volga River, the Zavidovo Golf Club embodies the spirit and appearance of the legendary Scottish golf courses. Its many springs and streams, hills, forests, swamps and lakes justify its reputation as a very demanding circuit. Last year, it entered the exclusive club of the 15 best golf courses in the world.   ■

“Breakfast & Lunch among friends”

The Breakfast Club has been a locally-owned Moscow breakfast staple for 12 years. The food is delicious, and the portions are appropriate (not gigantic). They have stuffed biscuits and gravy which is biscuits cut in half with eggs and bacon in the middle, covered in in-house made sausage gravy. If you are ever in Moscow in the wee hours of the morning, this is the place to stop!!!

CALIFORNIA YACHT CLUB

Founded originally in 1922 by yachtsmen including Charles Hathaway and Frank Garbutt, the California Yacht Club's first clubhouse was built in Wilmington, CA in Los Angeles' inner harbor (berths nos. 192 & 193), just opposite Terminal Island. Close by were the yards of renowned yacht builders Wilmington Boat Works and Fellows & Stewart (second location). In the club's inaugural year, member yachtsmen formed the first Star class fleet on the Pacific coast. Involved in all aspect of the sport, the club has encouraged a variety of pleasure boating, first in Los Angeles Harbor, and now in Santa Monica Bay.

Over the years CYC has been the club for numerous prominent yachtsmen including Merritt Adamson, Pierpont Davis, Roy E. Disney, J. Paul Getty, Samuel K. Rindge, William Stewart, James Kilroy and navigator extraodinaire, Ben Mitchell. Movie mogul Cecil B. DeMille once served as a trustee of the club and donated a gold cup for powerboat racing. Comedy film producers Al Christie and Hal Roach were both deeply involved in club activities in the twenties and thirties.

Power boating has always been a part of the club's mission along with sailing and rowing. The first CYC powerboat regatta was run in 1922 and the winner was none less than the famous Gar Wood in his Harmsworth Trophy winner Miss America. CYC's Catalina Challenge race for powerboats has been run annually since 1922.

A fire on Thanksgiving Day, 1930 severely damaged the original clubhouse although the heroic efforts of some members saved all of the trophies.

In 1932, several CYC members figured prominently in the sailing events at the Los Angeles Olympic Games. Owen Churchill, inventor of the SwimFin, won the gold medal in the Eight-Metre Class with Angelita.

Unfortunately, the club was forced to relinquish its key location in the East Basin to the Coast Guard for the war effort in 1941. A dormant period followed.

With the development of the long-awaited Marina Del Rey in the early 1960s, the club reformed in '63 and elected Fritz Overton, Commodore in 1923, as head of the "new" club. In 1966, they opened the modern clubhouse and marina facility that is their home today. The radial design of the building allows sweeping panoramic views of the marina.

The California Yacht Club is owned by the Hathaway family, owners of the Los Angeles Athletic Club. The annual "Great Catalina to Marina del Rey Rowing and Paddling Event" pays tribute to Charles Hathaway's row in 1976 from Catalina Island to the club on his 50th birthday.

The unique combination of private ownership and annually elected flag officers has worked well to establish California Yacht Club as one of the outstanding clubs in the nation.
