WHICH CHARTER YACHT IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

Sailing catamarans are the most popular choice. They are fun for sailing with a stable and flat platform for more comfort. They are ideal for those new to sailing/chartering, families with children and couples groups. The double hulls give an spacious amount of living space, they often have equal cabins with ensuite bathrooms and it is easy to walk around while sailing.

Monohull sailing yachts offer a better sailing experience, which is perfect for the traditional sailor. The yacht will heel while sailing which gives more thrill and is more exiting when you can feel the true power of the wind. Monohulls are perfect for honeymoons or  anniversaries as they often offer a more affordable price, and a larger master cabin.

POWER YACHTS

Power Yachts are chosen when guests desire more glamour and some greater mobility in and around the islands. In general the rates are higher than a similar size catamaran and in the lower price range there are not that many available options. Power Yachts often have a large Master cabin. Luxury yachts can be Sailing catamarans, Monohulls or Power yachts for those with a larger budget. • Can I fly into the BVI for my charter? While flights in and out of St. Thomas remain the most popular pick, typically due to preferred routes, flight times, and pricing, our other suggested option is to take a commercial flight in and out of San Juan, Puerto Rico with a connecting flight to the BVI and back. We will assist with connecting flight recommendations or with private charter flight reservations either from Puerto Rico to the BVI and back or from St. Thomas to the BVI and back.
• What’s the best way to get to the BVI and back from St. Thomas? Many of our clients take private water taxis from St. Thomas to the BVI and back for their charters. While more expensive than a commercial ferry, this option offers a faster and far more seamless, luxury experience. Once your flights are confirmed, we’ll be happy to assist with water taxi reservations.
• If I fly into St. Thomas, can my charter start and end there? While the crewed fleet was able to offer St. Thomas ports and a BVI itinerary through July 2023, crewed charters that occur in the BVI after October 2023 will require a BVI pick-up and drop-off.

Yacht description.

Bluewinds (previously Playtime) is a four cabin Lagoon 56 catamaran, which is perfect for couples or families. Each cabin features walk around queen beds with top of the range linens in muted, relaxing colours. There are ensuite bathrooms with separate shower stalls.

The salon has a very comfortable seating and dining area which is adjacent to the kitchen. On decks, the sizeable cockpit has a further dining option and a super flybridge, which is perfect for watching the sun go down with a cocktail in your hand.

My family and I enjoyed a fantastic charter in the BVIs a few years back on the same boat which we believed could never be topped. We were wrong. An amazing trip had by all-from private beach walks, to scuba trips in the most amazing places, to sailing, and the most fabulous food, drinks, and service. This trip was once in a lifetime! Our crew was more than awesome and became family! We cannot possibly thank you enough for sharing this boat and this week with us. Here’s to the most perfect start to a new year! We had a wonderful time on the charter. After postponing our trip for a year and a half, we were over-due for a real vacation with the family. The boat was spectacular and Paul & Ashley were great. Playtime was comfortable, especially the brand new cushions throughout the boat. It’s apparent that the owner and Paul pay attention to every single detail in order to ensure smooth sailing and luxurious comfort for all the guests. Captain Paul was AMAZING! We had many different excursions and things we wanted to do. Paul was attentive and made sure that both adults and kids each had individual experiences as well as a great family experience. For example, our oldest son wanted to scuba, our youngest son wanted underwater photography, my husband wanted a secluded beach and I just wanted lots of painkillers and sunshine! Paul delivered and then some. He was gracious and constantly asked for feedback in order to ensure a relaxing charter. Paul suggested that we venture on a four hour sail from St. John over to St. Croix and we were not disappointed. Paul knows the islands and where to go to truly live and breathe ‘island time’ away from the tourists, even allowing us all to share in the experience of seeing baby turtles (5 days old) and an octopus. Ashley was wonderful as well. She effortlessly juggled meals that consisted of various requests and she always left us in awe. Her culinary expertise and her excitement for sailing and traveling was out of this world. I do need to circle back with her and get her recipe for turkey meatballs!! We are already thinking about our next charter in 2023 and we hope to be able to reconnect with Paul when that time comes. My youngest son is anxiously awaiting Paul’s response to connect over Skype this week to finish editing the underwater photos that they took (and Paul was trusting enough to let my son use his underwater camera). I am so thankful to Paul for giving this gift to my son. Paul is a true teacher and his passion for sailing, Playtime and connecting with nature left all of us wanting more.

Rendezvous diving

If your crewed charter yacht does not offer onboard diving then fear not, rendezvous diving can be arranged.

So what is Rendezvous diving?

A local dive company will pick you up direct from your charter yacht at a pre-determined location and take you for a one- or two-tank dive to experience the BVI below the water. This is an excellent option if only a couple of guests wish to dive or can work equally as well if all your group are interested. If your charter yacht offers minimal onboard diving, then rendezvous diving can also work if you wanted to add a few more dives during your charter.

Rendezvous diving is at additional cost, payable locally. The dive company provides all gear.

TRAVELING FROM MIAMI

With new direct flights from Miami (MIA) to Tortola (EIS) via American Airlines, traveling to the British Virgin Islands has never been easier.

American Airlines’ new direct flight from Miami to Tortola offers travelers increased convenience and flexibility with its well-planned flight schedule. The non-stop flights depart from Miami International Airport in the morning, allowing travelers to make the most of their day upon arrival to the British Virgin Islands. The duration of the flight is approximately three hours, ensuring a swift and efficient journey.

TRAVELING FROM SAN JUAN

The most convenient international airport to Scrub Island is in San Juan, Puerto Rico (airport code SJU).

From San Juan, catch a short connecting flight with scheduled service via Seaborne Airlines, Cape Air or interCaribbean Airways to the British Virgin Islands at Terrance B. Lettsome Airport (airport code EIS).

• Seaborne Airlines has 32-seat, air-conditioned planes and code share with Delta Airlines, American Airlines, and US Airways.
• Cape Air has small 9-seat aircraft and code share with Jet Blue Airways.
• interCaribbean Airways has a 30-seat aircraft and code share with British Airways, out of Antigua.

FLIGHTS FROM EUROPE

The easiest way to reach the British Virgin Islands from Europe is via Paris. Air France flies daily from Paris (CDG) to Sint Martin (SXM). Then you fly with Winair or Liat in about 40 minutes to Tortola (EIS).

Alternatively, Air Caraibes and Corsair also offer flights from Paris to St. Martin.

Or you can reach Tortola BVI via Miami and Puerto Rico.

TRAVELER’S INFORMATION

• Constant trade winds with average temperatures of 80-92˚ Fahrenheit provide the perfect setting for casual summer attire during daytime and nice casual nighttime attire.
• A valid passport is the principal entry requirement into the BVI. All U.S. and Canadian citizens must present a valid passport for all travel. Currency in the BVI is the U.S. Dollar.
• An environmental and tourism levy of $10 per person (3 years & older) will be collected on arrival at the ports of entry.
• There is a $50 tax for all passengers, payable on leaving the BVI by air. If you’re departing the BVI by ferry, a departure tax of $20 per person or $15 for residents is payable.
