My top recommendation goes to Chica Locca. Yes, that means “crazy girl,” and you might get a little crazy on their super fun catamaran tours in Puerto Vallarta.

They have several different options to choose from, from jumping on a tour to renting an entire catamaran with a big group. That’s what we did for a joint birthday boat bash, and it was one of the most fun days ever.

Here are some of the best tours that Chica Locca offers:

#1. Yelapa Catamaran Tour

Their newest offering is an all-inclusive boat tour to Yelapa on the Limousine of the Sea. This massive catamaran measures 100 x 40 feet, ensuring smooth sailing all the way down to Yelapa.

It’s a full-day tour that includes a continental breakfast, snacks like guacamole & chips, and a big taco lunch.

You’ll never be thirsty on this boat, as it also includes all the soft drinks, coffee, beer, wine, or margaritas you want. Salud!

On the way down to Yelapa, you’ll make a stop for some excellent snorkeling. They also have kayaks, paddle boards, tubes, splash nets, and more that you can use. There’s never a dull moment on this awesome Puerto Vallarta catamaran tour.

Once in the fishing village of Yelapa , you have the option to take a short hike to a waterfall or just chill out on the beach. Then it’s back on the catamaran for the return trip to PV.

#2 Marietas Islands Catamaran Tour

Another popular option from Chica Locca is their all-inclusive tour to the Marietas Islands . This is the boat that we rented for the aforementioned birthday party and it has everything you need, including a water slide!

On the way out to the Marietas Islands, you’ll get to enjoy breakfast as you take in the views. Depending on the season, you can do some whale watching on the way out there.

It being a Chica Locca tour, there’s an open bar as well. When you get to the islands, you might see Blue Footed Boobies. This is one of the very few places other than the Galapagos Islands where they can be found.

It should be noted that this tour does not include access to Hidden Beach, as permits are very limited. If you really want to check it out, you can let them know, and they’ll try to get you there for an extra fee.

Lunch is included on this tour as well, and the food is pretty damn good for the small kitchen they have on board. The staff at Chica Locca really knock it out of the park and do their best to make sure you have the best day ever.

The coolest thing about the Vallarta Adventures tours is that they have their own private beach. That’s where you’ll head on this epic day tour to Las Caletas .

As with the other tours mentioned so far, this one takes you through the bay, passing by town. There’s also a gourmet lunch and – you guessed it – an open bar on board. What can we say – PV knows how to party!

Once in Las Caletas, you get to choose your own adventure. You can simply kick back and relax in a hammock on the beach if you like. If you’re feeling more active, you can do some water activities kayaking or snorkeling.

They have some other fun options as well, such as a nature walk with a guide where you’ll meet the residents of the area like macaws. For those feeling adventurous, there are waterslides and ziplines in the jungle.

SNORKELING TOUR VALLARTA

Prepare for a day of cruising to paradise in Puerto Vallarta!  Ride in a beautiful single-deck catamaran out to the UNESCO protected paradise of the Marietas Islands.  Watch for Humpback Whales (in season), dolphins, sea turtles, manta rays, and all kinds of marine bird life as you enjoy a light continental breakfast and feel the wind in your hair.

As we approach the Marietas Islands, made famous by oceanographer Jacques Cousteau for it's astounding biodiversity, we will go snorkeling in Puerto Vallarta's most diverse marine ecosystem.  We will see brightly colored tropical fish and other exciting marine life, and watch the Blue Footed Booby, a species of bird that can be found only here and the Galapagos Islands.  We can try kayaking for a bit as well.

Back on the boat, we will enjoy a delicious lunch and a guided tour by boat of the Marietas Islands, learning about this special place. Our Advice:

This is a big boat with a lot of people on it.  It's pretty basic, but fun as long as you're not picky and you are into the lively atmosphere, complete with loud music, dancing, karaoke and all of that. If you like the more "party" kind of boat, this tour is an incredible value for what you get.  But if that doesn't sound like your scene, check out our Marietas Islands Sailing for a more upscale and relaxed experience, or our Marietas Islands Eco-Snorkeling for a true eco-tour experience.

You may be asked to leave either a room key, your ID, or 200 pesos as a security deposit for the snorkeling equipment. The water at the Marietas Islands may be a few degrees cooler than sites closer to shore. Something to keep in mind in the winter and spring months.

Hidden Beach is no longer available, this is because the local environmental bureau is restricting access to all visitors, due to the reported damage to the area. Tours will continue to go to Marietas Islands, but no longer visiting Hidden Beach.  While access to Hidden Beach is now restricted, the tour is being offered as it has been for several years .

Marietas Islands Boat Tours

Designated a world heritage site in 2004, the Islas Marietas National Park tour is undoubtedly one of the  best things to do in Puerto Vallarta . These islands are also known as the “Mexican Galapagos”.

If you have the opportunity to go on a Puerto Vallarta boat tour to the Marietas Islands, you’ll have the opportunity to experience one of the most beautiful natural conservation parks in the world. Its beautiful hidden beach, Playa del Amor, is  incredibly unique , and the surrounding area is magnificent.

Other than Playa del Amor, there are tons of other hidden beaches, ocean caves, rock formations, and tunnels. The Marietas Islands got their shape and impressive geography due to  volcanic activity  many centuries ago. To add to that, it was a  bomb test site  for the Mexican military back in the 1900s. The large explosions caused many of the caves and rock formations to be created. In the 1960s, the government decided to declare the islands a national park.

Puerto Vallarta whale watching season is from Mid-November to March each year . These gentle giants can be seen breaching out of the water as parents instruct their baby calves in the ways of the watery world. I visited Puerto Vallarta with my company and we did a full day excursion with Fat Cat on their catamaran – and it was the highlight of our whole week-long trip! My experience was like a true party boat vibe and I had a blast. We were on a two-story boat with full service bar, two bathrooms (both really clean and nice!), two waterslides, plenty of comfy seats and cushions to lounge on, excellent sound system, life vests, a handheld shower, and really friendly crew who pointed out a whole pod of dolphins that came by to play! We stopped at one point to jump and play in the ocean and they cooked us all lunch (with snacks before and after) which was really tasty. They really provided everything we needed and more – contributing to the fun party atmosphere and were excellent tour guides of the area. Will definitely be back to visit someday!
